Ukraine plays Light Brigade with British advice "IndyWatch Feed War"

By DAVID P. GOLDMAN | ASIA TIMES | JUNE 10, 2023

American and European military observers in Ukraine described the Ukraine Armys efforts of the past two days as a suicide mission that violated the basic rules of military tactics. If you want to conduct an offensive and you have a dozen brigades and a few dozen tanks, you concentrate them and try to break through. The Ukrainians have been running around in five different directions, complained a senior European officer.

We tried to tell them to stop these piecemeal tactics, define a main thrust with proper infantry support and then do what they can, the officer added.

They were trained by the British and theyre playing Light Brigade, the officer added, referring to the 1854 disaster at the Battle of Balaclava when misreported orders sent British cavalry into massed cannon fire.

Ukraines tanks charged directly into minefields without deploying mine-clearing vehicles first, contributing to the loss of 38 tanks during the night of June 8, including numerous of the newly delivered Leopard II tanks.

A couple of Ukrainians tried to pull off a Guderian, another military source said, referring to German General Heinz Guderians breakthrough at Sedan during the 1940 Battle of France. But Guderian had 3,000 tanks, and these idiots have just gambled away the 30 they have.

And without air superiority, the source added, its a suicide mission.

Russias KA-50 and KA-52 attack helicopters each carry enough missiles to kill 20 tanks, and can do so at a standoff distance of 10 kilometers. Ukrainian air defenses have been degraded by repeated attacks with cheap drones that force the Ukrainians to expend their limited inventory of S-300 and Patriot missiles. Of the 14 Leopard tanks Germany has provided to Ukraine, 3 have been destroyed, along with several of the Leopards provided by Poland.

The Ukrainian high commands principle military advice has come from British officers embedded at headquarters in Kiev.

A Ukrainian concentration of forces remains possible as to date only three and possibly four Western-trained brigades have been used in Zaporoshye. That would require competent military decisions, not decisions motivated by political desperation.

It's a shame what Pride has become "IndyWatch Feed World"

It's officially what the White House calls "Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender, Queer, And Intersex Pride Month." Though I'm gay, I feel something besides pride on the occasion. The socially compulsory celebration now is something to dread. It means that for the entire month of June, you'll get to hear about the plight of transgender people, just like you do the other 11 months of the year. It also means your social media feeds have become one long rainbow, littered with tacky memes about how we must "protect trans kids" and "respect polyamorous asexuals" or whatever. Or, if you lean right (which today means anywhere to the left of Mao Zedong), you'll see a billion posts about how Bud Light betrayed the Founding Fathers by hiring Dylan Mulvaney as a spokesperson.

This is how working with AI affects employees "IndyWatch Feed Tech"

It is essential to carefully consider the advantages and disadvantages of AI as its integration into various aspects of society continues to evolve. Proactive measures are necessary to maximise the benefits of AI while mitigating potential drawbacks. A research study conducted by the American Psychological Association reveals that employees who frequently engage with artificial intelligence (AI) systems are more likely to experience loneliness, leading to insomnia and increased after-work drinking, reported scitechdaily. The study was carried out across various countries, including the United States, Taiwan, Indonesia, and Malaysia, with consistent findings across different cultures.

Lead researcher Pok Man Tang, PhD, who previously worked in an investment bank utilising AI systems, was inspired to investigate this timely issue.

Machine learning algorithm identifies 3 natural anti-aging chemicals "IndyWatch Feed Tech"

Researchers have used a machine learning model to identify three compounds that could combat aging. They say their approach could be an effective way of identifying new drugs, especially for complex diseases.

Cell division is necessary for our body to grow and for tissues to renew themselves. Cellular senescence describes the phenomenon where cells permanently stop dividing but remain in the body, causing tissue damage and aging across body organs and systems.

Ordinarily, senescent cells are cleared from the body by our immune system. But, as we age, our immune system is less effective at clearing out these cells and their number increases. An increase in senescent cells has been associated with diseases such as cancer, Alzheimers disease and the hallmarks of aging such as worsening eyesight and reduced mobility. Given the potentially deleterious effects on the body, there has been a push to develop effective senolytics, compounds that clear out senescent cells.

Hunter Biden's former business partner Devon Archer in talks to testify about Bidens' alleged $10M Ukraine 'bribe' "IndyWatch Feed World"

Hunter Biden's former business partner Devon Archer is in talks to comply with the House Oversight Committee's subpoena regarding his knowledge of the Biden family's alleged $10 million Ukraine "bribe" and additional Biden family business transactions. On Monday, the House Oversight Committee requested Archer testify Friday, but he is instead negotiating a later deposition, a source familiar with the situation told Breitbart News. Archer, a Biden family business associate and Hunter's "best friend in business," was in legal trouble in 2022 for defrauding a Native American tribal entity and was ordered to pay a $43,954,416.75 judgment to the victims. Prior to his arrest, Archer served in 2014 with Hunter Biden on the board of Burisma, a Ukraine-based energy company. Archer was also photographed playing golf with then-Vice President Joe Biden in Southhampton, New York, in 2014. In 2016, Archer resigned from Burisma's board after his arrest.

A Simple Guide To Bit Banged I2C On The 6502 "IndyWatch Feed Tech"

We covered [Anders Nielsen]s 65duino project a short while ago, and now hes back with an update video showing some more details of bit-banging I2C using plain old 6502 assembly language.

Obviously, with such a simple system, there is no dedicated I2C interface hardware, so the programmer must take care of all the details of the I2C protocol in software, bit-banging it out to the peripheral and reading back the response one bit at a time.

The first detail to concern us will be the I2C addresses of the devices being connected to the bus and how low-level bit manipulation is used to turn the 7-bit I2C address into the byte being bit-banged. As [Anders] shows...

Putin Chose The Perfect Time To Reveal Details About The Now-Defunct Draft Treaty With Ukraine "IndyWatch Feed Africa"

BY ANDREW KORYBKO | JUNE 18, 2023

President Putin surprised his guests from the African peace delegation on Saturday by revealing details about Russias now-defunct draft treaty with Ukraine. It would have re-enshrined neutrality in that countrys constitution and also limited its number of military forces. According to him, it had even been signed by the Ukrainian side, which then discarded it in response to pressure from the Anglo-American Axis (AAA) despite Russia pulling its troops back from Kiev as part of an agreed-upon goodwill gesture.

The special operation could have been over just a month after it started, thus meaning that this development marked the beginning of the NATO-Russian proxy war in hindsight seeing as how that bloc hadnt yet gone all-out in supporting Ukraine until right after that happened. This suggests that while the AAA was indeed surprised by President Putin preemptively averting Kievs planned reconquest of Donbass, they eventually saw an opportunity to weaken their rival by perpetuating this conflict.

They seemingly calculated that it would quickly collapse due to combined proxy war and sanctions pressure, though that obviously didnt happen. The following fifteen months ended up hurting the Global South a lot more than Russia as proven by the food and fuel crises that ravaged these developing countries as a result of the Wests unilateral restrictions on their targets financial dealings. The so-called grain deal also failed to relieve their suffering since Kiev never shipped its supplies to those states.

It was in the context of those countries plight that some of their leaders decided to embark on a peace mission to the two direct combatants in this conflict. They...

EU Votes to Bring Back Replaceable Phone Batteries "IndyWatch Feed Tech"

European Union votes to bring back replaceable phone batteries:

What's old is new again, at least in the European Union. The European Parliament recently voted in favor of new legislation that would overhaul the entire battery life cycle, from design to end-of-life, which includes important caveats for smartphone users.

Among the many changes, the new rules would require batteries in consumer devices like smartphones to be easily removable and replaceable. That's far from the case today with most phones, but that wasn't always the case.

In the earlier days of mobile phones (think Nokia 5190, Nokia 3310, Motorola Razr V3, Palm Treo 700p), swapping out the battery took mere seconds.

[....] For phones with "internal" batteries, you'd simply pop off the rear cover of the device, lift the battery out, put a fresh one in, and button it back up.

Manufacturers eventually moved away from easily swappable batteries in favor of "sealed" handsets sporting sleeker designs. Many consumers were vocal about the change but over time, most accepted it as the new norm and moved on.

[....] This is not the first time the EU has prompted a rethink. Last year, the EU set a deadline of December 28, 2024, for phones and other small electronic devices to include a USB-C port for charging. That's a problem for Apple considering the iPhone uses a proprietary Lightning port.

In that final paragraph, that standard USB-C charging port may be a problem for Tesla and other EV charging unless the EV owner has a really good USB-C cable.

Le Pen insists Crimea is 'Russian' "IndyWatch Feed World"

French far-right leader Marine Le Pen maintained her position that Crimea is Russian, claiming that Crimea's inhabitants freely voted for the referendum to validate the attachment to Russia in a Wednesday parliamentary hearing. Le Pen was heard by the National Assembly's committee of enquiry into foreign interference on Wednesday for over three hours, with many MPs asking the far-right leader where she stands on the Crimea question. Le Pen reaffirmed her earlier statements where she recognised the annexation of Ukraine by Russia. "Crimea was Russian for two centuries. It was Ukrainian for 60 years, given by a dictator on a whim," she said. "As an absolute defender of the referendum, I considered that, freely, the inhabitants of Crimea had expressed themselves by voting to be attached to Russia," Le Pen added. "I have no difficulty in saying this [...] especially as I went to Crimea, and I could see that they felt much more deeply attached to Russia than to Ukraine," she concluded...

The Revenge of Partygate "IndyWatch Feed War"

Boris Johnson

The agent of chaos is at it again. Boris Johnson, frontman of the Brexit disaster show, prime minister responsible for breaking regulations, rules and laws, and overall self-serving gross figure of indulgence, has decided to throw in the towel. He is leaving the House of Commons. The time had come for him to walk to the cricketing Pavilion, accepting the Umpires verdict.

Not that Johnson was exactly thrilled with the decision. The findings of the House of Commons Privileges Committee in what is known as the Partygate Report were damning. Released on June 15, 2023, the 30,000-word document details the numerous instances the then Prime Minister systematically undermined the very same pandemic regulations that his own government had implemented, only to then consistently mislead and deceive, most notably the Commons itself. In deliberately misleading the House Mr Johnson committed a serious contempt. The contempt was all the more serious because it was committed by the Prime Minister, the most senior member of the government.

The nature of that misleading conduct centred on Johnsons refusal to double-check advice given to him by, for instance, Jack Doyle, his former press secretary, over a number of gatherings on whether they were compliant with COVID-19 rules and guidance. Johnsons Principal Private Secretary, Martin Reynolds, had also pressed Johnson on the issue as to whether the guidance had been followed at all times, notably on the December 18, 2020 gathering. He wondered whether it was realistic to argue that all Guidance had been followed at all times, given the nature of the working environment in No. 10. He agreed to delete the reference to Guidance.

The report had to be rewritten at short notice to take into account Johnsons abrupt resignation. Had he remained, the Committee members would have recommended a 90-day suspension for, among other things, the former PMs deliberate misleading of the House, members of the Committee, and being complicit in the campaign of abuse and attempted intimidation of its members. Instead, it concluded that Johnson should be deprived of his Members pass.

The Committee took umbrage at Johnsons attack upon its members, which he condemned as undemocratic, a kangaroo court, and executioners of a witch hunt. We consider, states the report...

I like the taste of meat but like a lot people I try to keep my meat consumption at a reduced level for environmental reasons. Aside from mostly cooking vegetarian meals, this means making cuts of meat go as far as possible. I save the fat that renders out when cooking e.g. from bacon, I make stock from the bones, and most of all I properly brown my meat. To properly extract as much flavour from the meat as possible it should be a dark brown, almost black, not grey. Whether its a steak, diced beef for pasta sauce, or a roasted chicken. Im not talking about cooking your steak so well done that its just a charred lump you can still have a rare steak with this method but really get that outside dark.

Daniel Ellsberg has passed away. He left us a message. "IndyWatch Feed World"

When Daniel Ellsberg died on Friday, the world lost a transcendent whistleblower with a powerful ethos of compassion and resolve. Ellsberg's renown for openly challenging the mentalities of militarism began on June 23, 1971, when he appeared on CBS Evening News ten days after news broke about the Pentagon Papers that he'd provided to journalists. Ellsberg pointedly said that in the 7,000 pages of top-secret documents, "I don't think there is a line in them that contains an estimate of the likely impact of our policy on the overall casualties among Vietnamese or the refugees to be caused, the effects of defoliation in an ecological sense. There's neither an estimate nor a calculation of past effects, ever." And he added: "The documents simply reflect the internal concerns of our officials. That says nothing more nor less that that our officials never did concern themselves with the effect of our policies on the Vietnamese." Ellsberg told anchor Walter Cronkite: "I think we cannot...

Survivors of a shipwreck carrying "hundreds" of people continue to blame the Greek coastguard for causing the rusty trawler to capsize, as scores remain missing.

Greek officials said authorities recovered at least 75 dead bodies after a rusty trawler sank off Greece's Peloponnese peninsula in the deepest part of the Mediterranean on Wednesday night. Since then, no other bodies have been found.

Around 104 survivors - all men and primarily SyrianEgyptian and Pakistani - were rescued after the incident, though as many as 500 more people are missing and feared dead.

Survivors said at least 100 children were onboard the vessel before it sank. But as rescue efforts end, those on board are blaming the Greek coastguard for failing to save them sooner.

Five survivors who spoke to the Times said the Greek coastguard did not send help for at least three hours after the boat capsized.

Saudi Arabia has long been a powerhouse of football in the Middle East.

The national team has six World Cup appearances and two Asian Cups, while several of its club sides have excelled in the Asian Champions League.

But now the country has even bigger global ambitions that will have far-reaching implications on the rest of the region.

In December, Riyadh club Al-Nassr signed Cristiano Ronaldo, one of the best players in the games history and the most popular person on Instagram with almost 600 million followers.

His impact was immediate: Al-Nassr's Instagram following jumped from under one million to almost 15 million. Broadcast rights to the league were also reportedly sold to 36 overseas territories

That was just the beginning....

Detecting Meteors with SDR "IndyWatch Feed Tech"

The simplest way to look for meteors is to go outside at night and look up but its not terribly effective. Fortunately, theres a better way: radio. With a software-defined radio and a little know-how from [Tech Minds], you can easily find them, as you can see in the video below.

This uses the UK meteor beacon weve looked at before. The beacon pushes an RF signal out so you can read the reflections from meteors. If you are too far from the beacon, you may need a special antenna or you might have to find another beacon altogether. We know of the Graves radar in France and we have to wonder if you couldnt use some commercial transmitter with a little experimentation.

[Tech Minds] has some practical tips to share if you want to try doing it yourself. If you want to see what a detected meteor looks like, you can visit the UK beacons gallery page.

We saw another presentation on the UK beacon earlier this year. Using commercial transmitters sounds like it might be easy, but apparently, it isnt.

Computer models advancing science "IndyWatch Feed Nthamerica"

Computer modeling has become a more and more important tool for science. We have seen it in Climatology for decades, as well as in a number of other fields. People who have a poor understanding of science, or who are trying to deny science, such as creationists and climate change deniers, will often claim that it isnt really real science, but that is of course pure nonsense, as empirical evidence has demonstrated it again and again.

Now, there is a new great example of how a computer model is advancing our understanding of science. As ScienceDaily reports:

First hominin muscle reconstruction shows 3.2 million-year-old Lucy could stand as erect as we can

A Cambridge University researcher has digitally reconstructed the missing soft tissue of an early human ancestor or hominin for the first time, revealing a capability to stand as erect as we do today.

Dr Ashleigh Wiseman has 3D-modelled the leg and pelvis muscles of the hominin Australopithecus afarensis using scans of Lucy: the famous fossil specimen discovered in Ethiopia in the mid-1970s.

Wiseman was able to use recently published open source data on the Lucy fossil to create a digital model of the 3.2 million-year-old hominins lower body muscle structure. The study is published in the journal Royal Society Open Science.

The research recreated 36 muscles in each leg, most of which were much larger in Lucy and occupied greater space in the legs compared to modern humans.

For example, major muscles in Lucys calves and thighs were over twice the size of those in modern humans, as we have a much higher fat to muscle ratio. Muscles made up 74% of the total mass in Lucys thigh, compared to just 50% in humans.

Paleoanthropologists agree that Lucy was bipedal, but disagree on how she walked. Some have argued that she moved in a crouching waddle, similar to chimpanzees our common ancestor when they walk on two legs. Others believe that her movement was closer to our own upright bipedalism.

Research in the last 20 years have seen a consensus begin to emerge for fully erect walking, and Wisemans work adds further weight to this. Lucys knee extensor muscles, and the leverage they would allow, confirm an ability to straighten the knee joints as much as a healthy person can today.

The paper can be found at the Royal Society Open Science: Three-dime...

Maybe Republicans Are Just Bad at Investigating "IndyWatch Feed Nthamerica"

If you watch Fox News (or adjacent propaganda outlets) and listen to any number of Republicans, it is painfully obvious that prominent Democrats have been engaging in a multiyear crime spree in plain sight. And we are not talking about petty offenses but rather some pretty serious stuff: accepting bribes, high-level corruption, witch hunts, government weaponization, mishandling classified documents (actually, that one is apparently OK now), and possibly being involved in an international network of blood-drinking pedophiles.

Well, maybe. Well keep an open mind for now.

For example, it is conceivable that Joe Biden accepted $10 million from some Ukrainian. And, maybe, Hillary Clinton did all the things. Admittedly, that entire Democrats are grooming kids in pizza restaurants and drinking their blood thing is more difficult to swallow, but you never know what they are into when they are not ruining America.

Finally, theres Hunter Biden. That guy is a screwup, and were willing to believe just about any accusation leveled against him. That being said, he isnt a Democratic official and therefore doesnt really belong on this list, but Republicans are trying sooo hard, which is why we included him as well.

Now, imagine that you are part of a group of god-fearing patriots who are not only aware of all of these crimes being committed, but also have nearly unlimited resources to investigate them.

That would be pretty neat, right?

Surely, with million-dollar budgets, subpoena power, loads of amenable judges you installed, and control of the Department of Justice (DOJ) for four years, you could round up these rogues and put them away for good. You know, tough on crime, law and order and such especially if a central theme of your partys platform is to lock one of them up. After all, your supporters expect you to put an end to all that criming.

That just leaves one question: Why arent any of these Democrats and their allies in prison?

There really are only two possible answers. The first is that most of these allegations are complete BS (probably not the Hunter Biden stuff, though. That guy is a grifter). The second is that Republicans are epically bad at investigating.

There isnt a day without a Republican trotting out on Fox News to proclaim that they have ironclad evidence that will nail the Bidens for good.

New method can manipulate the shape and packing of DNA "IndyWatch Feed Tech"

A human cell harbors roughly 2 meters of DNA, encompassing the essential genetic information of an individual. If one were to unwind and stretch out all the DNA contained within a single person, it would span a staggering distanceenough to reach the sun and back 60 times over. In order to manage such an astounding volume of biological information, the cell compacts its DNA into tightly packed chromosomes.

Imagine DNA as a piece of paper upon which all our is written, says Minke A.D. Nijenhuis, co-corresponding author. The paper is folded into a very tight structure in order to fit all of that information into a small cell nucleus. To read the information, however, parts of the paper have to be unfolded and then refolded. This spatial organization of our genetic code is a central mechanism of life. We therefore wanted to create a methodology that allows researchers to engineer and study the compaction of double-stranded DNA.

Natural DNA is often double-stranded: one strand to encode the genes and one backup strand, intertwined in a . The double helix is stabilized by Watson-Crick interactions, which allow the two strands to recognize and pair with one another. Yet there exists another, lesser-known class of interactions between DNA. These so-called normal or reverse Hoogsteen interactions allow a third strand to join in, forming a beautiful triple helix (Figure 1).

Ibori Returns Only $15m Out Of $200m He Misappropriated -Obasanjo "IndyWatch Feed Africa"

IBORI AND OBASANJO

LAGOS JUNE 18TH (URHOBOTODAY)-Olusegun Obasanjo, a former president, has disclosed that James Ibori, a former governor of Delta State, looted $200 million but only repaid $15 million of the funds. Between 1999 and 2007, both Obasanjo and Ibori were in office when the incident took place.

In response to accusations of being vengeful made against him by the late former governor of Bayelsa State, Diepreye Alamieyeseigha, and Ibori, Obasanjo made the admission.

In an interview with Chude, the former president responded to the accusation by saying, These people allowed them to go into chapter and verse. I hope Ibori hasnt said that, but if he has, please explain what transpired.

Ibori was found to have misused about $200 million after an investigation by the EFCC. Ibori, come and take a look at the report, Ibori, they said as they presented the report to me. Go and give the EFCC $150 million assuming you have already spent $50 million. When he returned, he asked, Where should we put it? I told you to pay the money to your state since it is yours. How do I accomplish that, he asked? I opened a Central Bank account for him.

Afterwards, he returned and advised me to open Central Bank accounts for each state if he just deposited funds into the Delta-related account at the Central Bank. Which I did. Said Obasanjo.

When Nuhu Ribadu arrived, I told him to deposit the $15 million in cash in their account at the Central Bank because he believed he was being cunning. We kept looking at it after that. He was so hunted down and taken to London, where he was put in jail. Therefore, if that was revenge, I would encourage more revenge in Nigeria.

Okpe Leaders Fault Buharis Re-Naming Of Osubi Airport "IndyWatch Feed Africa"

BUHARI 10 (2)

LAGOS JUNE 18TH (URHOBOTODAY)-Okpe leaders on Sunday took a swipe at former president, Mohammadu, Buhari, describing the re-naming of the Osubi International Airport after Alfred Diete-Spiff as a monumental error and big slap on the Okpe people.

The Osubi International Airport is located in Osubi, a major town in Okpe Local Government and was commissioned for commercial use 1st April 1999.  Towards the twilight of the last administration, the Okpe Union was both shocked and dismayed to hear that the outgoing President Muhammadu Buhari had approved the re-naming of the Airport after Alfred Diete-Spiff, a former Military Governor of old Rivers State under the General Yakubu Gowon era. We appreciate the need to name certain national assets after eminent citizens, dead or living.

They argued that the issue at stake was the naming of a federal asset after someone that didnt serve Nigeria at Federal level.

Alfred Diete-Spiff had nothing to do with either the old Midwest region or Bendel or Delta States. He was not in any way connected to Osubi nor was he indigenous to Okpe land or the Okpe people of Delta State. With all due respect to him, he never served Nigeria at Federal level such as to suggest that any national asset anywhere could be named after him. Therefore, the Okpe Union is of the view that the re-naming of the Osubi International Airport after Alfred Diete-Spiff is not only a monumental error but a big slap on the Okpe people for which an immediate redress is required. The Okpe people have several eminent citizens such as Senator David Dafinone, a prominent Senate Leader in the Second Republic, General Patrick Aziza, a leading light of the military era, HRM Ezezi II and HRM Orhoro I, both eminent traditional rulers and statesmen after whom the Osubi International Airport may be renamed.

Paul McCartney: AI Has Enabled a Final Beatles Song "IndyWatch Feed Tech"

https://arstechnica.com/information-technology/2023/06/ai-powered-final-beatles-song-due-this-year-says-paul-mccartney/

On Tuesday, BBC Radio 4's Today program aired an interview with Paul McCartney in which he announced that thanks to AI technology, a "final Beatles record" has been finished and will be released later this year. He said that AI techniques have isolated John Lennon's vocals from an old cassette tape demo, enabling him to complete the song.

Though McCartney did not provide the song's title, speculation points towards it being "Now And Then," a 1978 Lennon composition, which McCartney has mentioned wanting to finish in the past. In 1995, the three living Beatles considered including the song in their Anthology series (similar to "Free as a Bird" and "Real Love") but abandoned it due to quality issues and George Harrison's refusal to work on it. Harrison died in 2001.

Similar vocal isolation allowed McCartney to virtually duet with Lennon on a recent tour.

Sugar-coating the objectivity of medical research "IndyWatch Feed War"

By Emanuel E. Garcia, MD | Intrepid Report | September 16, 2016

Although we have all come to expect that the science of medicine might occasionally reach a blind alley or take a wrong turn on the road to truth, we trust in the integrity of the medical establishment to make the appropriate corrections and proceed on investigative and therapeutic journeys determined primarily by objective scientific evidence.

That was certainly the belief I held as a medical student in the 80s and throughout my career as a physician, despite the free lunches sponsored by cheerful and ebullient pharmaceutical representatives who pitched the drug du jour. We students and interns and residents and attendings may have eaten their pizza and hoagies, but we were secure that our clinical judgments would remain unbiased when it came to treating our patients.

But then again, as we all know, there really is no free lunchor free pens or flashlights or god knows what else you may find at most medical conventions where drug companies pitch tent. Eventually something starts eating away at your firm and unbiased principles and the drug samples become a bit too easy to hand out gratis, and the prescribing hand a bit too familiar with the proprietary rather than generic names. This is why from the outset of my career I refused to see drug reps: I knew enough about myself to know that influences like these cant be easily rebuffed.

However, I hardly imagined that vested pecuniary interests could ever have affected so many millions of patients by misdirecting the management of the coronary heart disease (CHD) over the past six decades. Believe it or not, such appears to be the case, as the recent publication in JAMA on the sugar industry shows. This fascinating and critical article demonstrates convincingly that the industry not only attempted but actually succeeded in shifting the medical approach to CHD away from sugar to fats.

In 1972, John Yudkin published Pure, White and Deadly, arguing that sugar was the real culprit in the obesity epidemic and the major factor in associated coronary disease. His findings were marginalised, thanks in large part to the sugar lobby. Instead, the position advocated by physiologist Ancel Keys, which advocated the role of fats and dietary cholesterol won the day and became the mainstay for treatment strategiesnot because of intrinsic scientific merit, however.

The Sugar Research Foundation, today known as the Sugar Association, went so far as to pay three Harvard researchers to conduct a literature review...

Putin reveals details of draft treaty on Ukraines neutrality

azerbaycan24.com June 18, 2023

Moscow and Kiev agreed on the general terms of Ukraines neutrality and security guarantees during the peace negotiations in March 2022, but Kiev then abruptly discarded the documents its delegation had already signed, Russian President Vladimir Putin said on Saturday.

During a meeting with a group of African leaders in St. Petersburg, Putin showed for the first time the draft documents that were being discussed by the Russian and Ukrainian emissaries in Trkiye more than a year ago.

According to Putin, the document titled the Treaty on the Permanent Neutrality and Security Guarantees for Ukraine had been signed by the Ukrainian delegation.

The draft stipulates that Ukraine must enshrine permanent neutrality in its Constitution. Russia, the US, Britain, China, and France are listed as guarantors.

The addendum to the draft, also shown by Putin, outlines both Russian and Ukrainian proposals regarding the size of Ukraines standing army during peacetime, as well as its equipment. Moscow proposed to cap the number of military personnel at 85,000 and the number of the National Guard members at 15,000. Kiev, meanwhile, proposed that its Armed Forces have up to 250,000 troops.

Moscow suggested that Ukraine should be allowed to have 342 tanks, 1,029 armored vehicles, 96 multiple rocket launchers, 50 combat aircraft, and 52 auxiliary aircraft. Kiev, meanwhile, was in favor of having 800 tanks, 2,400 armored vehicles, 600 multiple rocket launchers, 74 combat aircraft, and 86 auxiliary aircraft.

The sides also exchanged proposals on capping Ukraines mortars, anti-tank weapons, and anti-air missile systems, among other equipment.

The negotiations effectively broke down in the spring of 2022 shortly after Ukrainian officials accused Russian troops of killing civilians in several small cities around Kiev. The allegations were made immediately after Russian soldiers had withdrawn from the areas outside the Ukrainian capital in what the Kremlin described at the time as a goodwill gesture. Moscow has since repeatedly denied committing atrocities in Ukraine.

Speaking on Saturday, Putin said that Ukraine was responsible for sabotaging the negotiations. After we pulled our troops away from Kiev as we had promised to do the Kiev authorities had tossed [the draft treaty] into the dustbin of history, he said. They abandoned everything....

mRNA vaccines fast-tracked for Australian agriculture "IndyWatch Feed World"

After the spectacular failure of mRNA vaccines in human trials, the agricultural industry is pushing ahead with mRNA vaccines for livestock engaged in the food industry. Whispers of stock 'dying suddenly' will no doubt become a complaint of farmers in the future, summarily ignored by government in the same way officials refuse to listen to serious concerns about dam-building restrictions, price hikes on Ag products, ridiculous fees and charges, incomprehensible red and green tape, biosecurity regulations that do nothing, and - fresh out of Western Australia - expensive negotiations with Indigenous groups who have never set foot on the land they claim to 'own'. In one example that mRNA is on its way Down Under, on May 2, 2023, Meat and Livestock Australia (MLA) announced funding for a project to 'test mRNA vaccines that can be rapidly mass-produced in Australia in the event of a lumpy skin disease or other exotic disease outbreak'.

Learning x86_64 Assembly By Building A GUI From Scratch "IndyWatch Feed Tech"

Some professional coders are absolutely adamant that learning to program in assembly language in these modern times is simply a waste of time, and this post is not for them. This is for the rest of us, who still think there is value in knowing at a low level what is going on, a deeper appreciation can be developed. [Philippe Gaultier] was certainly in this latter camp and figured the best way to learn was to work on a substantial project.

Now, there are some valid reasons to write directly in assembler; for example hand-crafting unusual code sequences for creating software exploits would be hindered by an optimising compiler. Creating code optimised for speed and size is unlikely to be among those reasons, as doing a better job than a modern compiler would be a considerable challenge. Some folks would follow the tried and trusted route and work towards getting a hello world! output to the console or a serial port, but not [Philippe]. This project aimed to get a full-custom GUI application r...

YouTube censors Jordan Peterson, Candace Owens and Michael Knowles for telling the UGLY TRUTH about transgenderism "IndyWatch Feed War"

Ethan Huff Natural News June 17, 2023

The Google-owned YouTube video streaming platform is waging war on conservatives who dare to speak out against the scourge of transgenderism and the incredible toll it is taking on the health of the next generation.

In a fired-up Twitter tirade, The Daily Wire CEO Jeremy Boreing called out YouTube for censoring many of his networks top personalities and their programs simply because they have a few things to say about transgender mutilation and its true impact on those who fall for it, especially children.

Hosts Candace Owens, Michael Knowles and Jordan B. Peterson, among others, were all found guilty of violating YouTubes anti-free speech Hateful and Derogatory content policies. It turns out that any negative reporting about transgenderism is now considered by YouTube to constitute hate.

@realDailyWire has received ~200 violations from @YouTube, Boreing tweeted, adding that these punishments have resulted in limited monetization for the channels affected, not to mention full-blown censorship of The Daily Wires most popular hosts.

(Related: Back in October, YouTube implemented a new policy that requires all videos containing medical information to first be certified in accordance with World Health Organization [WHO] dictates.)

Telling the truth on YouTube isnt allowed try Brighteon.com instead

The first blow came after The Daily Wire attempted to stream its What is a Woman? documentary on YouTube, which was created by director Matt Walsh, also of The Daily Wire. Boreing lamented that YouTube punished the account for the film, preventing it from streaming.

After that, YouTube went after the accounts of Owens and Knowles, both of whom host popular shows at The Daily Wire. The YouTube channels of both Owens and Knowles were locked and banned for seven days.

Anglophobia Down Under: Whites Are Demonized In 90% White Australia "IndyWatch Feed War"

Edward Dutton The Unz Review June 16, 2023

Reviewed: Anglophobia: The Unrecognised Hatred, by Harry Richardson and Frank Alter. Social Technologies. 2023.

In the relentless Machiavellian Leftist attack on European culture, we hear much about Bad Whites in Canada, England, and the United States. Yet we hear little about whites in the other large English-speaking nation, Australia. Tucked away Down Under, with just 26 million inhabitants, the continent maintained a White Australia immigration policy until 1973 that kept the country overwhelmingly white. Even today, it is 90 percent white, and 81 percent ethnically British, about the same as the Mother Country whose convicts settled it. But as Anglophobia: The Unrecognised Hatred reveals in great detail, Anglo-Australia is under sustained racial and cultural attack. Leftists, particularly organized Jewish leftists, have mounted a propaganda campaign that says Anglo-Australians are racists who should be ashamed of their history.

A recent example: Stan Grant, a top television host for the Australian Broadcasting Corporation, quit the job because he suffered, he claimed, a torrent of racist abuse after his comments about Australias history when he covered the coronation of King Charles III:

During the segment, he said the symbol of the Crown represented the invasion, the theft of landand in our casethe exterminating war, referring to a period of martial law in 1820s New South Wales th...

In Siem Reap four months ago, I had an awful pizza with fake cheese, so wrote about it. Within hours, some anonymous, of course, left a comment at my blog, What the fuck is that white stuff, asshole? There has to be a better way to voice his disagreement or doubt, but such is the world we live in. Unhappy psychos jam the Jewjewed West.

Speaking of which, Anyjewname Anyjewsurname opines at my SubStack, Hard to read about Jews as you write! Are you in the cause of a new round of crematory stoves? Are you in the counterinformation business? Doing a mixed salad about who are the n-a-z-y-es in Ua, may i call you Adolf?

Biden in DC on 6/14/23:

We have plans to build a railroad from the Pacific all the way across the Indian Ocean.

Biden supporters will claim his railroad line was a joke. Theyre partly correct, because Biden is a running gag to the rest of the world and a howler on Americans. Moving from Trump to Biden, their contempt became even more naked, but they have nothing to fear. Americans are so easily herded or cowed.

With German boys in white shirts and indigo ties behind him, Quinton Caesar (she/her) thundered in Nuremberg on 6/11/23, Now is the time to say, We are the last generation! Now is the time to say, Black lives always matter! Now is the time to say, God is queer!

Like some near-death drag queen, the West has become very tiresome and obnoxious, when it makes any sense at all. Thats why countries are fleeing from its economic, military and cultural web.

In November of 2022, Russias Duma unanimously approved a complete ban on LGBTQ, pedophilia and sex-change propaganda in all advertising, books, movies and media. Speaker Vyacheslav Volodin argued this measure would protect our children, the future of the country, from the darkness spread by the US and European states.

Putin warns of increasing risk of NATO involvement in Ukraine conflict "IndyWatch Feed War"

Islamabad Post June 17, 2023

Russian President Vladimir Putin said on Friday there was a serious danger that the NATO military alliance could be pulled further into the Ukraine conflict.

Putin spoke at the plenary session of Russias flagship St Petersburg International Economic Forum.

PUTIN: OPEC+ PRODUCTION CUTS ARE NON-POLITICAL

Putin said on Friday that decisions made by the OPEC+ group to cut oil production were depoliticized and were not connected to what Moscow calls its special military operation in Ukraine.

I have to tell you that all the decisions made within the framework of OPEC+ to reduce production are, above all, of a depoliticised nature, Putin said in comments to the St Petersburg International Economic Forum.

PUTIN: UKRAINE OFFENSIVE STANDS NO CHANCE

Putin said Ukraines counteroffensive would fail as Kyivs troops sought to advance in several directions, including the southeastern region of Zaporizhzhia.

I think that Ukraines armed forces stand no chance here, as well as in other directions I have no doubt about that, Putin told an annual economic forum in Saint Petersburg.

Putin claimed Ukraines armed forces were suffering heavy losses.

In some places Ukrainian units are managing to reach the first line (of defence), in other places they are failing, he said.

They are using the so-called strategic reserves, he added.

Putin said Ukrainian forces did not achieve their objectives in any section of the front, adding: Thats the important thing.

RUSSIA COULD DESTROY PARTS OF CENTRAL KYIV BUT HAS CHOSEN NOT TO

Putin said Russias military could destroy parts of central Kyiv but had chosen not to for various reasons.

Attacks on Russias border territories were an attempt to distract Moscows forces from other fronts, he said.

WEF Calls for 75% Reduction in Private Car Ownership "IndyWatch Feed War"

Frank Bergman SLAY News June 17, 2023

The World Economic Forum (WEF) is calling on global governments to agree to new green agenda goals that will significantly reduce the number of cars that are privately owned by the public.

The WEF is pushing for a staggering 75 percent reduction in the private ownership of cars, including electric vehicles, by 2050.

Klaus Schwabs globalist organization argues that most of the worlds population will be urban by 2050 and the public wont be able to justify the need for a private car or the use of commercial air travel.

The WEFs latest demand was exposed in a new report from the Wall Street Journal.

The WSJ found the goal buried in a WEF briefing paper released last month called The Urban Mobility Scorecard Tool: Benchmarking the Transition to Sustainable Urban Mobility.

It points out that more than two-thirds of the worlds population will be urban by 2050 and suggests people wont need to leave their local areas.

To meet the radical climate goals of the United Nations, the WEF, and the Paris Agreement, the report states that private vehicle ownership must be drastically reduced.

Instead, the public must shift to public transport and shared mobility, the report insists.

To comply with the WEFs green agenda goals, governments will need to unite to reduce vehicles from a potential 2.1 billion to 0.5 billion.

That target is a radical drop with fewer than 30 years to do it.

However, the WEF argues that its plan could slash emissions from passenger vehicles by 80% compared to a business-as-usual scenarioreducing the amount of CO2 in the atmosphere by 3.9 billion tons a year.

People prefer owning cars because it gives them unparalleled mobility.

Most of the vehicles on the roads today are powered by fossil fuels because they offer better performance and value

If mass transit offered equal or better performance, and was competitively priced without heavy taxpayer subsidies, more people would choose it.

For some, however, such as those in rural communities, public transport or shared mobility are simply not options.

The WEF goals will require a vast project in central planning at an untold cost.

As the WSJ notes, the WEF and its allies never target private jet and helicopter travel, or...

Apart from the business sector, the CFL is the only place left in Canada where performance, not identity or gender politics, is what counts.  This year it is better than ever. No pride month BS. No pink wrist and ankle bands for breast cancer.

And the Canadian national anthem is sung before before the game! When you consider how much detail it takes to create such a spectacle, it is the thing that I like best about Canada.

by Henry Makow PhD

With the Communist takeover of Canada, every social institution is on life support.

Led by Justin Castreau, the government takes orders from the WEF. The Canadian Broadcasting Commission, once a national stalwart, is now the state propaganda agency. No one watches or listens. The rest of the legacy media is also a joke. The universities are all controlled by Communists. The medical profession is totally discredited.

Where there is no free speech, there is no art or culture.

There is only one national institution left that still does Canada proud, the Canadian Football League, and ironically most of the best players are Americans, especially Blacks. But thats my point.

Apart from business, the CFL is the only place left where performance is all that matters. It doesnt matter if you are white, black, gay or green. There is no affirmative action. You perform or you are out. And it shows in the high level of athleticism and competitive intensity. These are genuine contests, no prisoners taken!

These athletes inspire me when I get discouraged. When they are behind, they dont quit. They keep on fighting. Thats what men do. We need to promote masculine values like these.

The CFL is one of the last places where there are consequences. There are no social safety nets, subsidies or government bailouts. Its here today and gone tomorrow. There are always new players hungry for an opportunity.

You cant phone it in.

Christianity and disability "IndyWatch Feed Politics.eu"

People with disabilities of various kinds have become increasingly visible in recent decades, with the focus shifting away from pity to a sense of equality and the need for society to make adjustments to allow such people to take their rightful place in the workforce and in community groups.

I have been thinking lately about how the Christian churches fit into this, and more specifically how the approach on sexual matters links into this. Articles like this one reflect on the feelings of Christians with disabilities.

One of the key scriptures in this regard is Genesis 2:18: It is not good that the man should be left alone; I will make him a helper as his partner. Its a verse that not only influences the role and teaching of churches on marriage, but reflects a secular reality, that most humans yearn for companionship and sharing.

Its a longing reflected, for example, in this American survey.

Yet, when it comes to people with disabilities, the attitude is still one of either being seen as asexual or else their families wish they were. There is a desire to protect disabled family members from the ups and downs of relationships, but this wish to wrap them in cotton wool goes against disabled peoples own wishes to have a normal sexual development.s

Penny Pepper explores this idea of being perceived as asexual here.

It seems to me that the churches are often uncomfortable in discussing these matters and decide to stay safe by appeasing families in this regard. However, the losers are people with disabilities, who feel their needs and desires are ignored by clergy.

This applies, in particular, to people with hidden disabilities, such as neurological disabilities. A complicating factor is that young people with disabilities are particularly prone to being sexually abused. Wider issues are explored here.

The experience of such abuse, in turn, leads to further complications in sexual development. Now, I know that for families with young girls with disabilities, the fear that they will be raped is ever present, but for male survivors of abuse there are different issues, which are often ignored by the churches.

I refer, in particular, to the fact that male abuse survivors very o...

If not Ethernet "IndyWatch Feed Tech"

It is hard to imagine today, but there was a time when there were several competing network technologies. There was Ethernet, of course. But you could also find token ring, DEC Net, EcoNet, and ARCNet. If youve never dug into ARCNet, [Retrobytes] has a comprehensive history you can watch that will explain it all.

Like token ring, ARCNet used a token-passing scheme to allow each station on the network to take turns sending data. Unlike token ring and Ethernet, the hardware setup was much less expensive. Along the way, you get a brief history of the Intel 8008 CPU, which, arguably, started the personal computer revolution.

Like most networking products of the day, ARCNet was proprietary. However, by the late 1980s, open standards were the rage, and Ethernet took advantage. Up until Ethernet was able to ride on twisted pairs, however, it was more expensive and less flexible than ARCNet.

The standard used RG-62/U coax and either passive or active hubs in a star configuration. The coax could be up to 2,000 feet away, so very large networks were feasible. It was also possible to share the coax with analog videoconferencing.

Looking back, ARCNet had a lot to recommend it, but we know that Ethernet would win the day. But [Retrobytes] explains what happened and why.

If you missed old-style Ethernet, we can show you how it worked. Or, check out...

Video Ads Are Coming to Uber, So I'm Switching to a Competitor "IndyWatch Feed Tech"

Video ads are coming to Uber, so I'm switching to a competitor:

The Wall Street Journal reports that full-length video ads are coming to all Uber apps, including its main ride-hailing app, food delivery service, and alcohol sales platform Drizly. This ad sale is part of a "key growth area," according to Mark Grether, vice president and general manager of Uber Technologies' advertising division.

Users will start seeing video ads when waiting for their drivers to arrive and even during their trips. For cars that have tablets installed inside, they will also appear there. For the Uber Eats app, video ads will play after customers place orders and continue until their deliveries arrive. Drizly, on its way, will have them in search results on its app and website.

WSJ says Grethen praises Uber's ability to "use data based on users' own travel and purchase histories to target them during the critical period between the time they open each app and the time they complete their transactions." He said that a ride usually takes 15 minutes, and 2 of the people are paying attention to the app.

"We have two minutes of your attention. We know where you are, we know where you are going to, we know what you have eaten," he said. "We can use all of that to then basically target a video ad towards you."

[...] While Uber praises its ability to track users and I understand it's a core business part of several companies it feels almost disrespectful how it says it's selling ads. While some people try to escape this unwanted tracking, Uber is proud to get every penny from you.

Myth of Big Oils Funding of Climate Scepticism vs Reality of Big Greens Billions Driving Climate Alarmism "IndyWatch Feed War"

BY CHRIS MORRISON | THE DAILY SCEPTIC | JUNE 15, 2023

In 2019 the climate activist and UCL Geography Professor Mark Maslin wrote that oil companies were spending $200 million a year promoting something he termed climate change denial. The dark forces claim has been in regular use ever since. The Guardian recently reported Big Oil was wringing humanity dry, noting once again the annual $200m spent on climate change lobbying. Great story. Shame there is no actual evidence to back it up.

That can be concluded from a major new work from the investigative journalist Ben Pile. He traces the Maslin claim to a Forbes article, which in turn was based on the work of InfluenceMap, an international think tank at the cutting edge of climate and sustainability issues. InfluenceMap claims to use a funding methodology based on best available records, but Pile notes the presence of a tower of estimates. This is largely guessing, not the discovery of a cache of receipts, he observes.

In more detail, Pile notes that this stack of assumptions involves defining areas of corporate activity that might be used for climate lobbying and then estimating spending associated with these activities, and then further estimating the proportion of spending directed at climate change related issues, before finally categorising as lobbying or branding based on whether the activity pertains to a political agenda. Overall, Pile concludes, it is just guesses. The work is performative in nature, and gives the impression of an investigation in order to make real one of green ideologys major articles of faith.

He goes on to note: And so the idea of an entire industry of climate denial servicing the interests of big oil companies has become the most respectable conspiracy theory at all levels of society the online troll is as comfortable reproducing the smear as the chair of the internationally-renowned scientific organisation.

Of course there is no reason why Big Oil, which includes Exxon Mobil, Shell, BP, Chevron and Total, cannot spend money in the course of contributing to the energy debate. Fossil fuels provide over 80% of global energy needs and make huge contribu...

Cruelty to Immigrants Is Cruelty to Children "IndyWatch Feed War"

By David Swanson, World BEYOND War, June 18, 2023

Some books shouldnt have to exist, but youre glad they do. This one describes a whole field of work using art-creation to help kids in Arizona and Southern California deal with trauma created by anti-immigrant policies and attitudes which shouldnt have to exist, but youre glad it does. The book is called Drawing Deportation: Art and Resistance Among Immigrant Children by Sylvia Rodriguez Vega. The author has worked with kids in school classes, helping them to create drawings (many of them included in the book) and improvisational theater productions, to express what theyre feeling and to begin to overcome some of their fear and anger.

Some of these kids have had parents or other loved ones seized, jailed, and deported. Some have risked their lives crossing an imaginary line on the Earth. Some have had loved ones die in that effort. All have experienced living with fear of police, with the discrimination of second-class status, and with racist attitudes. All have also lived with the impact of the poisonous talking boxes that their families impose on their living rooms. Much of what disturbs them is the media creation of national news narratives and the characters who act out those dramas, including people like Donald Trump and Sheriff Joe Arpaio, as well as those who selectively generate pseudo-outrage over the caging of immigrants depending on the political party of the U.S. president at the time.

One would like to hope that these young students artwork would do more than just help them to psychologically resist, that it would also help teachers to learn the value of such art projects, and even more so help people in general to develop the will to put an end to hateful policies and attitudes toward immigrants. The policy, for example, of making children legal but leaving their parents subject to being snatched and deported at any moment is not a policy of kindness to children. Not only are those children left without parents in the name of upholding the Family or Freedom or The Rule of Law or god knows what but they are also, predictably enough, left with the fear of being snatched and deported themselves. Its not an easy fear to live with. Would you want yourself or your children to live with it? Would you not much prefer to get the U.S. government to stop sanctioning, punishing, militarizing, and degrading countries south or its border, 200 year...

Key Points of Vladimir Putins Meeting with African Peace Mission

MOSCOW, June 18. /TASS/. Russia is ready to review any proposals from African states on the Ukrainian settlement, Russian President Vladimir Putin said, receiving the representatives of seven African states, who arrived to present their peace initiative on Ukraine. Earlier, the African delegation discussed the initiative with Ukrainian President Vladimir Zelensky in Kiev.

During the talks with Putin, South African President Cyril Ramaphosa presented the 10 main points of the peace plan, which include de-escalation of the conflict on both sides, diplomatic negotiations, ensuring sovereignty of states in accordance with the UN Charter, exchange of captives, post-war reconstruction and others. In response, Putin pointed out that Ukraine has withdrawn from the talks with Russia on its own initiative, although a peace agreement has been preliminarily signed in Istanbul. In addition, Russia was entitled to recognize the independence of DPR and LPR under the UN Charter, Putin noted.

The talks lasted for over 3 hours, and were subsequently commented upon by Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov.

Here are the key points from Putins conversation with the African leaders.

The African mission included President of Zambia Hakainde Hichilema, President of the Comoros Azali Assoumani (who also currently chairs the African Union), President of Senegal Macky Sall, President of South Africa Cyril Ramaphosa, Prime Minister of Egypt Mostafa Madbouly and Special Representatives of Presidents of the Republic of the Congo and Uganda Floran Nsiba and Ruhakana Rugunda.

Asked by a TASS correspondent at the 2023 St. Petersburg International Economic Forum (SPIEF) whether there were viable ideas in the peaceful settlement plans proposed by other countries, Zakharova replied "of course there are."

"I reiterate that we are thankful to every country, every state or every public figure - because many initiatives were personally proposed by prominent figures, internationalists; we are grateful to everyone, who speaks about peace, who speaks about [peaceful] settlement and, who wants to be useful regarding this issue," she said.

"There are interesting ideas, which may work. There are ideas that are in sync with our approaches, and, for instance, it includes the Chinese initiative," she continued.

Zakharova stressed that the main problem is that such initiatives are being blocked "by the Kiev regime, which banned itself" from holding any negotiations with Russia.

"All of it was blocked by [Ukrainian President Vladimir] Zelensky, because this concept was laid out by Washington. Washington pursues the concept of kill as many Russians as possible. This concept was voiced by prominent representatives of the US political establishment including [ex-US President] George Bush Jr and Senator [Lindsey] Graham," Zakharova said.

The Russian Foreign Ministrys spokeswoman added that that Washington adhered to the concept of utter domination in the world and strategic defeat of Russia.

Ham Pairs Nicely with GMRS "IndyWatch Feed Tech"

Ignoring all of the regulations, band allocations, and best amateur practices, theres no real fundamental difference between the frequencies allocated to the Family Radio Service (FRS), the General Mobile Radio Service (GMRS), the Multi-Use Radio Service (MURS), and the two-meter and 70-centimeter bands allocated to licensed ham radio operators. The radio waves propagate over relatively short distances, dont typically experience any skip, and are used for similar activities. The only major difference between these (at least in the Americas or ITU region 2) is the licenses you must hold to operate on the specific bands. This means that even though radios are prohibited by rule from operating across these bands, its often not too difficult to find radios that will do it anyway.

[Greg], aka [K4HSM], was experimenting with a TIDRADIO H8 meant for GMRS, which in North America is a service used for short-range two-way communication. No exams are required, but a license is still needed. GMRS also allows for the use of repeaters, making it more effective than the unlicensed FRS. GMRS radios, this one included, often can receive or scan frequencies they cant transmit on, but in this case, the limits on transmitting are fairly easy to circumvent. While it isnt allowed when programming the radio over Bluetooth, [K4HSM] found that programming it from the keypad directly will allow transmitting on the ham bands and uses it to contact his local two-meter and...

The Cost of Overselling and Falsely Marketing a Chatbot (Also: Billions in Losses or Budget Deficit at Open HEY HI) "IndyWatch Feed Tech"

Microsoft LinkedIn: LinkedIn Sells Off Silicon Valley Office as Falling Valuations Spread to Tech-Concentrated Hub

Summary: Microsoft is in trouble, but Microsoft-funded media wont say it like that

THE XBox problems [1] (many layoffs there, even an existential crisis!) have been mentioned in Daily Links already, as was the conflict between Microsoft and its de facto subsidiary, Open HEY HI.

Open HEY HI now says something to the effect of, our chatbot actually sucks, dont trust Microsoft-bribed media [2-3]. For those who dont know, Open HEY HI is actually losing billions of dollars (this information is out there; its not a secret, only a little suppressed!). Then there are the antitrust obstacles [4], which are covered in the mainstream media [5-6]. So there are growing tensions with Open HEY HI [7] and with the US government [8] which may have just doomed the ambitions of resurrecting the gaming business [9-12] by buying another company.

Tough year for Microsoft, layoffs aside.

Facebook/Fakebook in the Mass Layoffs Era: Fakes, Misinformation, and Global Outages "IndyWatch Feed Tech"

Summary: Facebook/Fakebook, whose primary function is misleading a lot of people, isnt doing too well; now it goes offline, too

Social control media is collapsing this year (profit is a necessity; many platforms operate at a loss and some always operated at a loss). Facebook/Fakebook is no exception. We recently wrote about YouTube, Reddit, and Twitter. Yesterday we wrote about Microsoft's LinkedIn shutting down entire offices (same as GitHub, which is proprietary social control media for code). We didnt forget Facebook/Fakebook. Theres also some clobbering at Facebook/Fakebook. Dont believe fake valuations (market cap) at Wall Street. Market capitalisation of Spotify Technology, for instance, is said to be 30.94 billion at the moment, but Spotify Technology is losing about a billion dollars per year. Total debt on the balance sheet as of March 2023: $1.85 billion. Many people dont think so simply because they dont know that and never bothered checking. So theyre in debt, theyre losing a lot of money, and somehow theyre worth over 30 billion dollars? Like Twitter was worth 44 billion dollars despite having about 13 billion dollars in debt while operating at a loss?

Spotify | SPOT - Debt

Its hard to tell for sure that there will even be a thing called Facebook 5 years from now. What also matters is inertia or trends. The Web was abuzz some days ago with Facebook fading [1] and Facebook Papers [2]. Facebook is now dishing out some cash to entice people not to leave [3] and there are attempts to get children hooked [4] (yes, Facebook is like a drug dealer). A lot of Facebook staff left in recent years, not just because of the layoffs. Many people resigned. Outages were reported a couple of days ago [5] (brain drain always leads to this) and its starting to look like a Twitter-type collapse. Just like Twitter, Facebook is a prime source of misinformation (see Pitt Cheung was scrolling through Facebook one Friday evening when he saw a post by a local media outlet [6]; it was false). There are also fakes being spread in Facebook, as noted this past Thursday [7].

Twitter is Still Very Deep in Debt, the Interest Payments on the Debt Are Massive ($300,000,000), and Its Still Losing Money After Discarding Most Staff "IndyWatch Feed Tech"

Summary: It is perfectly plausible that Twitter will declare bankruptcy not too long from now; the company is not viable and things become very messy very fast

OUR position on Twitter has been all along very consistent. Weve urged people to quit the platform and not take anything found on that platform seriously (it was a leading source of misinformation).

Theres some real news about Twitter these days. Below is a sample from the past week.

Twitter is not a social network, nor is it a community. Its an ego/vanity project of Elon Musk, according to its CEO [1]. Twitters Lawyers Admit Theyre Overwhelmed As Nearly 2000 Laid Off Employees File Arbitration Claims [2] says a new article and now they need to worry about a lawsuit over copyright infringement to the tune of $250 million [3]. The Twitter platform of the present has a severe problem with fakes (changing what verified means did not help) [4], which may lead to defamation lawsuits and accountability lawsuits some down the line, and the founder of Twitter is trying to take advantage of the chaos [5]. Musk seems to be thinking Twitter will become another TikTok [6], but hes late to the game and whats left of Twitter is being evicted for failing to pay bills [7-8]. Maybe soon the Web site and app will go offline for failing to pay server bills [9]. No kidding here, this can actually happen soon.

So what has Musk got in mind? Bringing in racists [10] and truly pissing off LGBTQ users [11-12]? You just know this wont end up very well. Openly endorsing homophobic politicians in Twitter livestreams probably pisses off the lions share of whats left of the users in it, not to mention most US politicians. Jack Dorsey Says Indian Officials Raided Twitter Employees Homes, said a recent article [13] and maybe some time soon itll be US officials doing the same.

Were not too sure what Twitter will look like by Christmas. Given all those lawsuits and unpaid bills, the platform might as well be offline.

As noted in the title, the company still costs a huge amount of money to run. The only way to put an end to these losses is to declare bankruptcy.

Agent Haus A Name You Will Need to Remember "IndyWatch Feed Nthamerica"

When the Internal Revenue Service (IRS) does its job, it is a thorn in the side of tax cheats often wealthy Americans and corporations.

That is why one of the first things the new Republican House majority did this year was to pass legislation that would rescind $71 billion in funding for the IRS even though the nonpartisan Congressional Budget Office projected that this move would add $114 billion to the deficit over the next decade.

GOP lawmakers justified the vote by erroneously claiming that the additional funding would be used to hire 87,000 new IRS agents. In fact, that figure refers to all employees the agency plans to hire over the next decade. While some of the new hires would be auditors, the majority would work in other areas such as customer service. And even the additional agents would only bring the number of employees back to the level of the IRS workforce of the 1990s, i.e., before Republicans started gutting the agency.

Therefore, it is fair to conclude that the IRS is high on the list of the GOPs targets and it looks as though one agent in Ohio just gave them some ammunition.

In a letter to IRS Commissioner Daniel Werfel, House Judiciary Committee Chairman Jim Jordan (R-OH) described a bizarre field visit in which an agent gave a false name to harass a woman in Ohio.

During that unannounced visit, the agent identified himself as Bill Haus and said he was with the agencys Criminal Division and came to her home to discuss an estate for which she was the fiduciary.

At first, the woman thought this was a scam, but the agent knew details about her situation that only the IRS would know.

Haus then informed her that she owed the IRS a substantial amount. The woman then provided him with evidence that this was not the case.

At this point, Agent Haus revealed that the true purpose of his visit was not due to any issue with the decedents estate, but rather because...

How and Why NASA Gives a Name to Every Spot It Studies on Mars "IndyWatch Feed Tech"

Martian maps are full of monikers recognizing places on Earth, explorers, and even cartoon characters:

NASA's Perseverance rover is currently investigating rock outcrops alongside the rim of Mars's Belva Crater. Some 2,300 miles (3,700 kilometers) away, NASA's Curiosity rover recently drilled a sample at a location called "Ubajara." The crater bears an official name; the drill location is identified by a nickname, hence the quotation marks.

Both names are among thousands applied by NASA missions not just to craters and hills, but also to every boulder, pebble, and rock surface they study.

[...] The difference between an official name on Mars and an unofficial one is seemingly simple: Official monikers have been approved by a body of scientists known as the International Astronomical Union (IAU). The IAU sets standards for naming planetary features and logs the names in the Gazetteer of Planetary Nomenclature.

For example, craters larger than 37 miles (60 kilometers) are named for famous scientists or science-fiction authors; smaller craters are named after towns with populations of less than 100,000 people. Jezero Crater, which Perseverance has been exploring, shares the name with a Bosnian town; Belva, an impact crater within Jezero, is named after a West Virginia town that is, in turn, named after Belva Lockwood, the suffragist who ran for president in 1884 and 1888.

[...] Early Mars missions sometimes took a whimsical route with nicknames, even using cartoon character names. "Yogi Rock," "Casper," and "Scooby-Doo" were among the unofficial names applied by the team behind NASA's first rover, Sojourner, in the late 1990s.

African Nations Call for Indivisibility of Global Security, Russia Supports It Lavrov

Lavrov also pointed out that African countries have shown an understanding of the root causes of the Ukraine crisis, "which was created by the Wests efforts"

Sergei Bobylev/TASS

ST. PETERSBURG, June 17. /TASS/. African countries stand for the indivisibility of global security, and Russia backs this principled position, Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov said on Saturday after Russian President Vladimir Putins meeting with an African peace mission.

"First of all, they (African countries - TASS) highlighted Chinas well-known twelve points, which were presented a couple of months ago, and they highlighted those parts of that Chinese initiative that are close to them and that stipulate that there no double standards in the world, that all the principles of the UN Charter in their integrity and correlation are respected and implemented, that there are no unilateral sanctions, that there are no attempts to ensure someones security at the expense of others, that security is indivisible on a global scale. They are the principled attitudes that we share," he said.

Lavrov also pointed out that African countries have shown an understanding of the root causes of the Ukraine crisis, "which was created by the Wests efforts".

"They have shown an understanding that this situation has to be resolved by grappling with those root causes, by working out specific real actions to eliminate the causes that are undermining and have been undermining fair security in Europe throughout many years," the Russian foreign minister said.

Putin rebuts in detail US-NATO accusations, provides dishonoured Ukraine neutrality agreement "IndyWatch Feed Africa"

African delegates from Zambia, Senegal, African Union, South African Republic, Arab Republic of Egypt, Republic of Congo, and Uganda, met with Putin yesterday and proposed a 10-point peace plan for Ukraine.  At Putin told the press that this was the third peace plan offered to Ukraine, which had so far knocked back one from the Pope and one from the Chinese.  He also provided , which engaged to maintain Ukraine as a neutral state.  This plan was discarded by Ukraine after pressure from US-NATO.  At the St. Petersburg International Economic Forum (SPIEF) on Friday, he made multiple statements about the war, which we set out below, as sumarised on the Russian news-site. Candobetter thinks that any agreement that leaves Zelenski in power cannot be in the interests of ordinary Ukrainians or Russians or the world, given his record.

Ukrainian counteroffensive yielding heavy losses and no gains

Russias president provided an update on the ongoing long-heralded Ukrainian counteroffensive, which began tentatively in early June. To date, Kievs forces have lost some 186 tanks and 418 armored vehicles of other types, according to Putin.

Their losses are very heavy about more than one in ten compared to the Russian army. That is a fact. In terms of hardware, the loss of this equipment is growing every day, he said, adding that Kiev has thus far failed to achieve its goals, wasting its strategic reserves in the push against Russias forces.

Western military aid will not help Ukraine

The intensified military action has caused a rapid depletion of Ukraines own war materiel stockpile, Putin said, predicting that the countrys armed forces are set to become entirely dependent on foreign aid in the nearest future.Well, you wont be able to wage war for long like that. Our defense industry, however, is growing day by day, he said.Any weaponry Kiev receives from the collective West will end up destroyed, Putin warned. Tanks are burning. Among them are the Leopards. They burn. So will the F-16s. There is no doubt, the president stated, referring to the potential deliveries of advanced US-made aircraft long-sought by Kiev.

NATO involvement in the conflict is deepening

The potential delivery of F-16 fighter jets would get the US-led NATO bloc even more deeply involved into the conflict, Putin said. Moreover, the aircraft may end up stationed abroad, while on...

Intel to Ship Quantum Chip "IndyWatch Feed Tech"

In a world of 32-bit and 64-bit processors, it might surprise you to learn that Intel is releasing a 12-bit chip. Oh, wait, we mean 12-qubit. That makes more sense. Code named Tunnel Falls, the chip uses tiny silicon spin quantum bits, which Intel says are more advantageous than other schemes for encoding qubits. Theres a video about the device below.

It is a research chip and will be available to universities that might not be able to produce their own hardware. You probably arent going to find them listed on your favorite online reseller. Besides, the chip isnt going to be usable on a breadboard. It is still going to take a lot of support to get it running.

Intel claims the silicon qubit technology is a million times smaller than other qubit types. The size is on the order of a device transistor 50 nanometers square simplifying things and allowing denser devices. In silicon spin qubits, information resides in the up or down spin of a single electron.

Of course, even Intel isnt suggesting that 12 qubits are enough for a game-changing quantum computer, but you do have to start somewhere. This chip may enable more researchers to test the technology and will undoubtedly help Intel accelerate its research to the next step.

There is a lot of talk that silicon is the way to go for scalable quantum computing. It makes you wonder if theres...

Reckless Water Consumption Is Tilting The Entire Planet "IndyWatch Feed Nthamerica"

There have been many attempts, over the last few decades, to find ways to talk about global warming that convey the immense scale of what were doing to our planet, but one of the more effective ones, in my opinion, is being able to point to the fact that through ice melt, weve actually moved enough mass to shift the axis around which our planet spins. Its not something that affects our lives, but it does convey the message that whats happening really is planet-sized.

Unfortunately, it turns out thats not the only way in which weve been messing with Earths axis. As you may be aware, humanity has something of a problem with unsustainable water usage. Even without global warming, were pulling it out of the ground far faster than its being replenished, and polluting a lot of it in the process. How much water have we been pumping? Enough to shift the planet:

By pumping water out of the ground and moving it elsewhere, humans have shifted such a large mass of water that the Earth tilted nearly 80 centimeters (31.5 inches) east between 1993 and 2010 alone, according to a new study published in Geophysical Research Letters, AGUs journal for short-format, high-impact research with implications spanning the Earth and space sciences.

Based on climate models, scientists previously estimated humans pumped 2,150 gigatons of groundwater, equivalent to more than 6 millimeters (0.24 inches) of sea level rise, from 1993 to 2010. But validating that estimate is difficult.

One approach lies with the Earths rotational pole, which is the point around which the planet rotates. It moves during a process called polar motion, which is when the position of the Earths rotational pole varies relative to the crust. The distribution of water on the planet affects how mass is distributed. Like adding a tiny bit of weight to a spinning top, the Earth spins a little differently as water is moved around.

Earths rotational pole actually changes a lot, said Ki-Weon Seo, a geophysicist at Seoul National University who led the study. Our study shows that among climate-related causes, the redistribution of groundwater actually has the largest impact on the drift of the rotational pole.

Waters ability to change the Earths rotation was...

The Tale of the City: Gentrification in London Part 2 "IndyWatch Feed Nthamerica"

The Guns of Brixton sung by the Clash in 1979 made Brixton synonymous with resistance, anti-oppression, and anti-racism beyond the borders of the United Kingdom. The song presaged the riots of 1981 which rose Brixton into a symbol even as they spread all over England* that summer. The emblematic city of Brixton is currently at a crucial crossroad, struggling not to lose its character as gentrification spreads across London.

With a vibrance of ethnic identities represented, Brixtons main market on Popes Road in the heart of the city is the where activists and campaigners have launched their wide-reaching #FightTheTower campaign. The anti-gentrification campaign is aimed at stopping the construction of Taylor Tower, a 20-story building that will alter the landscape of the market. Brixton will either keep its soul, or it will become an empty shell in a gentrified area. This article is the second in our three-part series, Tale of the City: Gentrification in London.

This article is a commentary piece reflecting lived experience, research and/or perspectives of the author. The views and opinions expressed dont necessarily represent those of Unicorn Riot.

In the 1980s, Brixton symbolized the heavily policed racially discriminated communities answer to the exclusion, austerity, and repression of the UKs former Prime Minister Margaret Thatchers regime. Thatcherism was the main pillar along with Reaganomics in the neoliberal narrative in the 80s.

Neoliberalism is a political, economical and philosophical current achieved mainly through austerity and privatization. Its aim is the deterioration of the welfare state and governments social and financial intervention in order to achieve economic prosperity and well-being through the reign of the free market competition in the modern capitalist societies.

Neoliberalism targets not only the social state but society itself. It was presented to the UK as the only alternative by Thatcher who phrased it as there is no alternative (TINA). It was complemented by former U.S. President Ronald Reagans economic policies called Reaganomics, which implemented tax reduction, decreased government spending and deregulation of the markets. Thatchers other well known phrase in the early 80s, there is no society but families and individuals is indicative of neoliberalisms effort to suppress and deconstruct societys ability to self institute, decide and act.

Drowning in Neoliberal Waters

Forty years later, Brixton is floating in deep neoliberal waters, facing the biggest danger ever as a community repeated waves of gentrification. A continuous phenomenon w...

President Macky Sall has been the target of demonstrations in the aftermath of the conviction and sentencing of an opposition leader

By Abayomi Azikiwe, Editor, Pan-African News Wire

Wednesday June 14, 2023

Political Analysis

Senegal was the scene of demonstrations and widespread property damage in the wake of the conviction of opposition leader Ousmane Sonko who was tried by the courts in absentia in early June.

Sonko, a former tax inspector and co-founder of the African Patriots of Senegal (PASTEF) opposition party, had been charged with sexual assault, however, his conviction was for the corruption of a minor.

Supposedly the charges stemmed from Sonkos interaction with a woman at a massage parlor, according to press reports. Even after the conviction and sentencing, Sonko has not been arrested by the authorities in Senegal. He was given 15 days to file an appeal in the courts to his conviction and sentence to two years in prison.

The opposition leaders supporters say that the charges against him are politically motivated in order to prevent Sonko from running for president in 2024. He contested in the 2019 elections and came in third after the incumbent President Macky Sall. The PASTEF party leads a coalition of opposition parties called Liberate the People which represents the second largest bloc in the National Assembly of Senegal.

Aggravating the social situation in Senegal is the controversy surrounding whether President Sall will seek re-election after serving two terms. The Senegalese constitution will have to be changed for Sall to run once again. Sonko, who 49-years-old, has a strong following among the youth who represent the largest demographic inside the country. Due to the post-colonial crisis of many African states, unemployment and poverty among young people remains disproportionately high in many countries such as Senegal.

Reports from Senegal indicate that 16 people lost their lives during the...

Burial Rites: Agbarha-Warri Kingdom Shuns Warri South Chair Order, Shuts Markets, Shops "IndyWatch Feed Africa"

AGBARHA WARR

LAGOS JUNE 17TH (URHOBOTODAY)-Markets, shops and stalls across Agbarha-Warri kingdom in Warri South Local Government Area of Delta State were, on Saturday, deserted and shut in honour of the departed monarch, HRM London Aforkerhi Itu, Orhifi Ememoh 11, the Ovie of Agbarha-Warri kingdom.

Prior to Saturdays burial rites of the departed monarch which started during the week, an unsigned statement had gone viral as of Wednesday, urging the closure of the popular Igbudu market in the local government.

The public announcement stated: This is to notify everyone that Igbudu Market wont be open this SATURDAY because theyre burying their king.

No human being should be found in or around the market area if youre not an indigene; please its very serious. Please, help pass the message to your friends and relatives.

Obviously, the terse message, which went viral on social media and some privately-owned online media, caused some panic across the local government area which is heavily inhabited by non-indigenes, especially traders from the South East.

Igbudu Market is also host to folks from the northern part of the country with their commercial and residential enclave popularly called Hausa Quarters.

But in a swift reaction, the chairman of Warri South, Dr Michael Tidi, issued a statement, urging residents and traders to disregard the viral message suggesting a traditional curfew and restriction of commercial activities in the popular market.

In the statement released on Friday, June 16, Dr Tidi averred that the council had to make the clarification, following repeated inquiries from panic-stricken traders and other critical stakeholders.

He said that the right of passage of the Ovie of Agbarha, Warri, HRM London Orhifi Ememoh II, slated Saturday, June 17, did not pose any security threat to traders in Igbudu Market and customers intending to carry out their usual purchases.

He restated his administrations resolve to sustain the support of traditional institutions in Warri South Local Government Area and emphasized that the unwarranted closure of markets and other business concerns at a time people are struggling with the economic difficulties occasioned by the removal of fuel subsidy was unnecessary.

Atlanta Struggle to Stop Cop City Continues After Council Approval

Residents and community activists initiate a petition to place the controversial law-enforcement training center to a vote by the electorate.

By Abayomi Azikiwe, Editor, Pan-African News Wire

Tuesday June 13, 2023

Commentary

There is much at stake for the ruling class and its law-enforcement surrogates in the mass campaign taking place in Dekalb County, Georgia to prevent the construction and operation of a training center which will cost tens of millions in tax dollars.

In a vote by the Atlanta City Council on June 5, the legislative approval of the project took place despite the objections of hundreds of people.

This training facility, if completed, would cost at least $90 million. The center would be the largest of its kind in the United States. With Atlanta being a majority African American Southern municipality, it would be against the interests of its population to fund or allow such a project.

Historically, African Americans have been disproportionately impacted by police violence within their communities. The police represent the entry point of millions into the criminal industrial complex, where again, African Americans are sent to prison in far greater numbers to their percentage within the U.S. Consequently, it should not be surprising that many African Americans and other oppressed peoples along with their supporters are calling for the defunding of police and the abolition of the prison systems.

Concerned people stood in line for hours in order to make statements against the building of the complex located in a rural forested area outside of Atlanta. However, despite the growing opposition to the project, the City Council revealed that their status largely depends upon a subservience to the ruling class and the police.

Demonstrations surrounding the building of Cop City have resulted in the shooting death of one activistManuel Paez Teran (Tortuguita)--...

Governor of West Darfur State Assassinated After Calling for International Protection

West Darfur Governor Khamis Abakr

June 14, 2023 (EL GENEINA) The governor of West Darfur state and head of the Sudanese Alliance, Khamis Abdallah Abkar, was killed on Wednesday, two months after the start of the armed conflict between the Sudanese army and the Rapid Support Forces (RSF) in Khartoum.

Khamiss assassination came two hours after a telephone interview with Al-Hadath TV in which he accused the RSF and Arab armed militias of killing civilians in the capital city of West Darfur state.

In addition, the slain ruler appealed to the international community to intervene and protect civilians, stressing that the Sudanese army and the joint forces of the Darfur armed movements were unable to intervene to protect them.

There is an ongoing genocide in the region and therefore we need international intervention to protect the remaining population of the region, he said.

Sources reported his arrest by the Rapid Support Forces following his television statements.  Shortly after his arrest, a video emerged on social media, showing his blood-stained body amidst the cheering voices of unidentified individuals, intentionally concealed by the photographer.

West Darfur state witnessed fierce intercommunal fighting between Arab militiamen and the Massalit that erupted after the start of hostilities in Khartoum between the army and the RSF on April 15. Day after day, the paramilitary forces and tribal militiamen took control of the city.

The Sudanese army issued a statement condemning the assassination of the governor of West Darfur, saying that the RSF had arrested and assassinated him. Abdel Fattah al-Burhan also issued a statement in his capacity as head of the Sovereign Council, condemning the killing of Abkar. He stressed that he is a signatory to the Juba Peace Agreement.

A number of signatory groups to the Juba agreement issued statements condemning the assassination of the governor. Howe...

Sudan Slips into Crisis with Critical Shortages as Conflict Enters Third Month

By Africa News

15/06 - 14:22

The war between rival generals enters its third month on Thursday with no end in sight in Sudan, where planes bombed a southern town for the first time and the regular army accused paramilitaries of "abducting and murdering" a governor in Darfur.

The air force carried out "air strikes for the first time on El-Obeid", a town 350 kilometers south of the capital Khartoum, "which has been encircled by paramilitary forces since the beginning of the fighting", several witnesses told AFP.

Meanwhile, on Wednesday, the Sudanese army accused paramilitaries from the Rapid Support Forces (RSF) of having "abducted and murdered" the governor of West Darfur state, Khamis Abdallah Abakar, describing the incident as a "brutal act".

This alleged assassination means that the Rapid Support Forces have added a "new line to their list of barbaric crimes committed against all the Sudanese people", the army said on Facebook.

The governor's death could not be independently confirmed by AFP.

The fighting, which began on April 15, has so far been concentrated mainly in Khartoum, the capital of five million inhabitants, and in the vast Darfur region in the west.

This war between the army of General Abdel Fattah al-Burhane and the paramilitary Rapid Support Forces of General Mohamed Hamdane Daglo has claimed more than 1,800 lives, according to the NGO ACLED.

More than 2.2 million people have fled their homes across the country, including over a million from the capital Khartoum, according to the International Organization for Migration (IOM). More than 528,000 of these displaced people have taken refuge in neighboring countries, according to the UN agency.

Civilians who have not fled have "no food, water or medicine left", Ahmed Taha, a Khartoum resident, told AFP.

"We have nothing left. The country is devastated. Wherever you look, you see the impact of bombs and bullets", according to this witness.

Sudan Officials Say Airstrike Killed 17 People, Including 5 Children, in Capital Khartoum

By SAMY MAGDY

People prepare food in a Khrtoum neighborhood Friday, June 16, 2023. Sudan had plunged into chaos since mid-April when monthslong tensions between the military and its rival, the paramilitary Rapid Support Forces, exploded into open fighting in the capital, Khartoum, and elsewhere across the northeastern African nation. (AP Photo)

CAIRO (AP) An airstrike in Sudans capital Khartoum on Saturday killed at least 17 people, including five children, health officials said, as fighting continued between rival generals seeking to control the country.

The attack was one of the deadliest of the clashes in urban areas of Khartoum and elsewhere in Sudan between the military and a powerful paramilitary group known as the Rapid Support Forces.

There was no immediate comment Saturday from either side of the conflict on the strike, and it was not clear whether the attack was by warplanes or a drone. The militarys aircraft have repeatedly targeted RSF troops and the RSF has reportedly used drones and anti-aircraft weapons against the military.

The fighting broke out in mid-April, capping months of increasing tensions between the leaders of the military and the RSF. The clashes have killed more than 3,000 people and wounded over 6,000 others, said Health Minister Haitham Mohammed Ibrahim in an interview late Saturday with the Saudi-owned television station, Al-Hadath.

Saturdays strike hit the Yormouk neighborhood in southern Khartoum, where clashes have centered in recent weeks, according to Sudans Ministry of Health. The area houses a military facility controlled by the army. At least 25 houses were destroyed, the ministry wrote in a Facebook post.

The dead included five children and an unknown number of women and elderly people, and some wounded people were hospitalized, the ministry said.

A local group that calls itself The Emergency Room and helps organize humanitarian aid in the area, said at least 11 people were wounded in the strike. It posted i...

At Least 41 Killed in Rebel Attack on Ugandan School Near Congo Border

By RODNEY MUHUMUZA

KAMPALA, Uganda (AP) Suspected rebels attacked a school in a remote area of Uganda near the Congo border, killing at least 41 people in a nighttime raid before fleeing across the porous frontier, authorities said. Thirty-eight students in their dormitories were among the victims.

Some students were burned beyond recognition, and others were shot or hacked to death after militants armed with guns and machetes attacked the school in the frontier district of Kasese, a local mayor told The Associated Press.

In addition to the 38 students, one guard and two residents of the local community in Mpondwe-Lhubiriha town were killed in the attack, said Mayor Selevest Mapoze. A Ugandan military statement said the rebels abducted six students, taken as porters of food looted from the schools store.

The school, co-ed and privately owned, is located about two kilometers (just over a mile) from the Congo border.

Government shutdown warnings rise as Republicans seek deeper cuts in budget battle

Authorities are blaming the massacre at Lhubiriha Secondary School on the Allied Democratic Forces, or ADF, a shadowy extremist group which has been launching attacks for years from bases in volatile eastern Congo. Villagers in the Congolese provinces of Ituri and North Kivu have been the victims of the groups alleged attacks in recent years.

But attacks on the Ugandan side of the border are rare, thanks in part to the presence of an alpine brigade of Ugandan troops in the region.

The attack has sent shockwaves in this normally peaceful East African country whose long-time leader cites security as a strength of his government. It is also a blow to the countrys armed forces, who since 2021 have deployed in parts of eastern Congo under a mission specifically to hunt down the militants accused of attacking a school.

Speaking to reporters near the scene of the attack, the commander of Ugandan troops in Congo told reporters that the rebels spent two nights in Kasese before carryi...

Secret Pfizer Document Shows Company Observed 1.6 Million Injuries Following COVID Vaccination "IndyWatch Feed War"

BY MEGAN REDSHAW | JUNE 15, 2023

A recently released Pfizer document shows the pharmaceutical giant in August 2022 was aware of 1.6 million adverse events reported by those who had received its COVID vaccine.

The adverse events spanned more than 10,000 different categories and affected nearly every organ system in the body. Yet, Pfizer still concluded its shot was safe and effective.

According to Pfizers 396-page confidential pharmacovigilance document obtained by the European Medicines Agency, the company observed 508,351 case reports containing 1,597,673 adverse events. One-third of all adverse events were classified as serious a number well beyond the 15% threshold that should trigger a safety signal.

The document shows that adverse events were three times more common in women than men, with 60% of all reports classified as not recovered or outcome unknown. The highest number of cases affected the 31-50 year age group.

Because 92% of individuals did not have a comorbidity, its unlikely their adverse events could be attributed to anything but Pfizers COVID-19 vaccine.

The document further categorized the 1.6 million adverse events observed by Pfizer into categories and subcategories based on injury. According to journalist Daniel Horowitz, Pfizer observed more than 10,000 categories of diagnosis, many of which were severe or rare.

For example, 73,542 cases in 264 categories of vascular disorders were reported by individuals after receiving Pfizers COVID vaccine, 696,508 cases of nervous system disorders were reported, and 61,518 reported eye disorders in 100 different categories.

More than 47,000 ear disorders were reported, including 16,000 cases of tinnitus, 225,000 reports of skin and tissue disorders, 190,000 respiratory disorders, and more than 178,000 reproductive and breast disorders.

There were 77,000 reports of psychiatric disorders reported following vaccination, 3,711 cases of tumors, more than 100,000 reports of lymphatic disorders, and 127,000 reports of cardiac disorders in more than 270 categories.

The document also shows Pfizer was aware of 68 cases of chronic inflammatory demyelinating polyneuropathy  the rare and severe neurological disorder experienced by Maddie De Garay during Pfi...

Malis Top Diplomat Demands UN Peacekeepers Leave the Country After More Than 10 Years

By BABA AHMED and SAM MEDNICK

BAMAKO, Mali (AP) Malis top diplomat demanded Friday that U.N. peacekeepers who have been in this West African country grappling with an Islamic insurgency for more than a decade leave immediately, claiming they had failed in their mission.

Foreign Minister Abdoulaye Diop made the request in a speech to the United Nations Security Council. He said the U.N. mission had not achieved its objectives and was sowing distrust among the people.

Mali has struggled to contain an Islamic extremist insurgency since 2012. Extremist rebels were forced from power in Malis northern cities the following year, with the help of a French-led military operation, but they regrouped in the desert and began launching attacks on the Malian army and its allies.

The U.N. peacekeepers a contingent of more than 15,000 came in a few months later in what has become one of the most dangerous U.N. missions in the world. At least 170 peacekeepers have been killed in the country since 2013, according to the U.N.

The Malian government asks for the withdrawal without delay of the peacekeepers, Diop said in his speech at the council. He said the mission has not been able to adequately respond to the security situation in Mali and that its future outlook doesnt seem to respond to the security needs of the Malians.

Mali has been ruled by a military junta following two coups, starting in 2020, led by Col. Assimi Goita, who now runs the country.

Since Goita seized power, relations with the international community have become tense in part also because the junta brought in mercenaries fromRussias Wagner Group, who are engaged in Moscows war on Ukraine.

In recent months, Malis government has constrained the peacekeepers ability to operate, and countries such as Benin, Germany, Sweden, Ivory Coast and the United Kingdom have ann...

Can We Please Have Some Honesty About Trumps Lockdowns? "IndyWatch Feed War"

By Alan Dowd | Brownstone Institute | June 15, 2023

The salvos being lobbed between former President Donald Trump and Florida Governor Ron DeSantis over their respective handling of the COVID-19 pandemic are at once troubling, encouraging, and revealing. Citizens who believe in individual liberty, individual responsibility, and constitutional government should listen to what these men and all policymakers are saying about COVID-19 todayand equally importantremember how they responded in 2020.

Causes and Consequences

With global health experts initially warning that the virus was killing 3.4 percent of those infectedand the now-disgraced British epidemiologist Neil Ferguson churning out computer models that offered policymakers a false choice between mass death or mass lockdownsTrumps Department of Health and Human Services drafted a document aimed at containing COVID. It was on March 13, 2020.

Stamped not for public distribution or release and indeed kept from public view for several months, that document would guide decision-makers at every level of government and every sector of the economy in dealing with COVID-19.

In March 2020, the Trump administration unveiled elements of the document under the banner 15 Days to Slow the Spread. Among other things, the document introduced us to phrases like social distancing, workplace controls, aggressive containment, and non-pharmaceutical interventions at the federal, state, local and private-sector level. These would include home isolation strategies, cancellation of almost all sporting events, performances, and public and private meetings, school closures, and stay-at-home directives for public and private organizations.

A PDF sheet handed out at the March 16 press conference said: In states with evidence of community transmission, bars, restaurants, food courts, gyms and other indoor and outdoor venues where groups of people cong...

Okowa Reacts To Clarks Allegations, Says He Re- Positioned Delta To Number One Oil Production State "IndyWatch Feed Africa"

LAGOS JUNE 17TH (URHOBOTODAY)-Immediate past Governor of Delta State, Senator Dr Ifeanyi Okowa on Friday said the Delta State Oil Producing Areas Development Commission, (DESOPADEC) got a total of N208 billion in the eight years of his administration.

Speaking on the Morning Show on Arise Television, the immediate past State Commissioner for Information, Mr Charles Aniagwu said that the Okowa administration was fair in the distribution of projects across the three Senatorial Districts in the state.
Aniagwu said that the interventionist agency got what was due it according to the law establishing it, adding that the Agency had annual budgets approved for them by the State House of Assembly.

According to him, the Okowa administration worked hard to enthrone peace in the state especially in oil producing communities and the creeks of Delta by taking development to the oil producing communities.

He said prior to the emergence of Okowa administration in 2015, Delta was 4th in oil production adding that Okowa administration took the state to number one in oil production because the communities were happy with the projects executed in their areas by the state government.

Let me put it on record that we recognise the contributions of the elder statesman to the development of our democracy in time past.

The grant aims to expand research on mitigating the effect of misinformation and disinformation regarding COVID-19 prevention and treatment initiatives among Hispanics.

Timeline: Kicking off on May 10 and set to wrap up in April 2024, this grant is part of the Department of Health and Human Services (HHS)s Food and Drug Administrations portfolio. Its part of Bidens broader push to censor alleged disinformation by joining forces with social media platforms on content moderation a move likened to censorship by some Republicans.

What GOP says: This funding allocation may prod GOP lawmakers to probe deeper into the Biden administrations methods in countering certain types of speech. House Republicans, according to the Washington Examiner, are considering wielding the appropriations process as a tool to block federal agencies from pumping money into domestic initiatives tagged as combating disinformation.

What HHS did before: In 2021, HHS, spearheaded by Secretary Xavier Becerra, allegedly dabbled in misinformation tracking, by offering guidance to Twitter and Facebook on handling virus-related content. The US Surgeon General Vivek Murthy admitted in an August 2021 call with education groups, that the government was working to combat misinformation in many ways, one being working with tech companies.

Skeptical voices: Brian Harrison, a former HHS chief of staff under Trump and a current GOP Texas state House member, communicated his skepticism to the Washington Examiner: I have no confidence this is anything more than Bidens HHS spending money we dont have on government censorship efforts.

Inside the project: Texas Womans Universitys venture consists of crafting a social network analysis to scrutinize misinformation consumed by the Hispanic community. It involves conducting focus groups, creating an economic impact analysis of proposed informational strategies for Hispanics, and establishing a longitudinal misinforma...

The Growth of Somethings "IndyWatch Feed Nthamerica"

Merriam-Webster defines growth as "something that has grown or is growing." It is obviously a very broad definition that encompasses all "somethings." The matter piqued my curiosity so I looked into it a bit and then wrote this brief piece. It examines growth on a continuum from good through bad to calamitous.

Is Africa splitting into two continents? "IndyWatch Feed Africa"

Will the East African Rift split the continent and create a new ocean, or will it fizzle out? A giant rift is slowly tearing Africa, the second-largest continent, apart. This depression known as the East African Rift is a network of valleys that stretches about 2,175 miles (3,500 kilometers) long, from the Red Sea to Mozambique, according to the Geological Society of London. So will Africa rip apart completely, and if so, when will it split? To answer this question, let's look at the region's tectonic plates, the outer parts of the planet's surface that can collide with each other, making mountains, or pull apart, creating vast basins. Along this colossal tear in eastern Africa, the Somalian tectonic plate is pulling eastward from the larger, older part of the continent, the Nubian tectonic plate, according to NASA's Earth Observatory. (The Somalian plate is also known as the Somali plate, and the Nubian plate is also sometimes called the African plate.) The Somalian and Nubian...
