Sri Lanka researchers amp up mushroom studies and find new species "IndyWatch Feed Enviro"

COLOMBO In Lewis Carrolls popular childrens book Alice in Wonderland, Alice finds a magical mushroom that could make her bigger or smaller. There are many references to wild mushrooms in many a fairytale, and these beautiful organisms have often been associated with magic. However, some recent discoveries of mushrooms in Sri Lanka were not the outcome of magic but the result of scientists at work. Being open to working with amateurs who have an interest in mushrooms can also result in chance encounters. For example, a retired dentist from Kegalle in Sri Lankas Sabaragamuwa province, Hemachandra Kularatne is passionate about nature photography and has developed a special interest in wild mushrooms. On occasion, he camps out in the remote wilderness to photograph unusual looking mushrooms. In 2020, he found one that looked a little similar but different to a mushroom he had in his own home garden. This mushrooms stem was thinner than the edible mushrooms, so Kularatne shared its photos with Aseni Ediriweera, a scientist at the Chinese Academy of Sciences, which studies mushrooms. By analyzing the DNA, Ediriweera determined it is a species new to science and named it Termitomyces srilankensis. Like Kularatne, Gunadasa Pathirana, a tour guide at the Kanneliya Rainforest Reserve in the islands south, is another amateur who is moved by the diversity of mushrooms he sees. Whenever he shoots a mushroom whose name he does not know, he forwards it to mushroom researchers for verification. It is from such a sample that EdiriweeraThis article was originally published on Mongabay

Want to Help People Vote? The GOP Is Coming After You "IndyWatch Feed Nthamerica"

After years of all-out assaults on voting rights intended to keep voters of color and young people away from the ballot box, Republicans have a new target: groups that help people cast their ballots. However, in a major win for voting rights groups, a federal court ruled that the First Amendment protects this type of assistance.

The United States District Court of Kansas recently ruled that mailing pre-filled ballot applications to prospective voters is protected by the First Amendment rights to speech and association. Similar legislation, which targets civic engagement groups as a proxy for Democratic voters, is moving forward around the country.

We know that disproportionately Black and brown and young voters rely on these types of organizations to help them navigate the obstacles to the voting process, said Danielle Lang, the senior director for voting rights at the Campaign Legal Center. So we know that not only are these types of restrictions attacking the First Amendment rights of these organizations but theyre also attacking voters, and theyre attacking Black and brown and young voters in particular.

The barriers Lang mentions are often erected specifically to make voting more difficult for groups who typically support Democrats, such as voters of color and young voters, and therefore give the GOP an edge.

The Republican-controlled Kansas legislature passed H.B. 2332 in May of 2021 over the veto of Democratic Gov. Laura Kelly. The bill prohibited out-of-state organizations from participating in mail-in voting registration efforts and kept in-state organizations from mailing voter applications with any voter information already filled in. The legislature dropped the out-of-state prohibition after the suit was filed.

The Voter Participation Center (VPC), a voter registration and education organization, uses partially pre-filled ballot applications to encourage voters to register. By simplifying a complicated process, Lang said, groups like VPC help underserved voters exercise their rights.

The simple explanation is that, unfortunately, some politicians dont like it when more people have access to the ballot. Caren Short, League of Women Voters

VPC argued in the suit that the p...

Greedflation Exists: Even the corporate raiders now admit it "IndyWatch Feed Nthamerica"

Axios recently published an item on inflation over the past four years.  Everyone who wasnt a rightwingnut and either works for a living or worries about putting food on the table knew that inflation was caused by corporate greed.  If the costs of production went up by one cent, corporations would raise prices five cents, then blame global pressures, COVID-19, supply chains, war in Ukraine, or the biggest lie of all, worker wages.  Four years after the fact, the corporatists, not just the media, are admitting that inflation in recent years was almost entirely due to corporate profiteering, not any external factors.

Once a fringe theory, greedflation gets its due

Once dismissed as a fringe theory, the idea that corporate thirst for profits drives up inflation, aka greedflation, is now being taken more seriously by economists, policymakers and the business press.

Why it matters: Though inflation is starting to come down, it still remains well above the Feds target level of 2%, and understanding whats causing inflation is key to combatting it now and the next time.

The idea that profits drove our current bout of inflation surfaced in the last few years among progressive economists and lawmakers but was waved away by more mainstream types as a conspiracy theory. That changed earlier this year.

  • In a speech in January, then-Fed vice chair Lael Brainard said wages werent the main driver of inflation and pointed to a price-price spiral, where companies mark up prices far higher than the increases in their input costs.
  • In March, the chief economist at UBS Global Wealth Management, Paul Donovan, published a note on profit margin-led inflation, describing how in late 2022 and into this year, companies particularly retailers and consumer goods makers convinced consumers that they needed to raise prices. (They didnt really.)
  • Most of the time, these companies have weak pricing power, meaning they depend on repeat customers and cant just wildly increase prices because consumers will abandon them, he says.

But businesses both large and small had a convincing story to tell: They really didnt want to raise prices, but there was this terrible war or the pandemic or labor shortages or whatever, Donovan tells Axios. Thats whats basically been going on.

  • With so much in flux, people were more accepting of higher costs for everything, and more convinced companies HAD to raise prices....

Music Rules: Why I love bands that play "IndyWatch Feed Nthamerica"

Recently I saw notices for concerts coming to Taiwan.

Sam Smith.  Westlife.  Coldplay.

Seriously, thats it?  Taiwan has better bar bands than that.  The last time a good band came here was 2017, when D.O.A. appeared for one night.  And it was a Tuesday, so I couldnt get out of work.

My favourite new album of 2023 is Ian Hunters Defiance, Part 1.  He turns 84 in June, and he probably made the best album of the year.  Its an all-star collective performance, recorded online during lockdowns with a list of huge names contributing (probably fans and those influenced by Hunter): Mike Campbell, Slash, Robert Trujillo, Ringo Starr, Taylor Hawkins, Billy Gibbons, and many more.  The link below is a playlist from his own account, not just the title track.  Its all killer material.

This is why bands that play and write their own songs will always be better, just like they were better when All The Young Dudes came out in 1972.  Hunters voice isnt what it used to be, but the songs he wrote for this album are as good as any hes written.

A few more raptors would reduce the noise "IndyWatch Feed Nthamerica"

My wife was working in the garden this morning, while I was vegetating in front of the computer. One of the things Mary does is listen and fire up Merlin Bird ID as she works paying attention to bird song is supposed to be good for you, you know. This is what she identified in our back yard this morning: Chipping Sparrow, Dark-eyed Junco, House Finch, Black-capped Chickadee, Common Grackle, Rock Pigeon, Grey Catbird, American Crow, American Robin, Northern Cardinal, White-breasted Nuthatch, Red-eyed Vireo, Willow Flycatcher, Alder Flycatcher, Blue Jay, Common Raven, Eastern Towhee, Black-and-White Warbler, Philadelphia Vireo, House Sparrow, Red-bellied Woodpecker, Great Crested Flycatcher, Great Horned Owl, European Starling, Eastern Phoebe, House Wren, American Goldfinch, Downy Woodpecker, Chimney Swift, Dickcissel, American Redstart, Ruby-throated Hummingbird, Mourning Dove, Yellow-rumped warbler, Cedar Waxwing, and Yellow-bellied Flycatcher.

I thought she made up Dickcissel, but apparently its a real bird living in the Midwest. I know weve got owls in the neighborhood, and also hawks, since this is clearly a great feeding ground.

This does explain why Im getting up early every morning the cacophony is tremendous around here.

The US and Never-ending War "IndyWatch Feed War"

John Rachel, in his book The U.S. and Perpetual War: Interviews and Commentary (Independently published, May 16, 2023, available at Peace Dividend/Books and Amazon) has compiled a unique, concise and astonishingly compelling collection of leading left, liberal, conservative and heterodox thinkers each answering the same fifteen precisely composed questions. The questions concern the current nature of the US empire, putative US democracy, and, most important, what is to be done.

The distinguished roster of 22 respondents from politics, academia, media, law, and social activism includes Noam Chomsky, Larry Wilkerson, Paul Craig Roberts, Mark Skidmore, Coleen Rowley, William J. Astore, Abby Martin, Dan Kovalik, Lee Camp, Finian Cunningham, Michael T. Klare, Cynthia McKinney, Scott Ritter, Joe Lombardo, Bruce Gagnon, Norman Solomon, Peter Kuznick, Ajamu Baraka, Margaret Kimberley, Matthew Hoh, Garland Nixon, and Dennis Kucinich.

Rachels 15 question topics are: 1. The Atomic Scientists doomsday clock; 2. The US as a force for peace, justice, etc., or not; 3. The reasoning behind Russian and Chinese military action; 4. The US need for empire, or not; 5. US national electoral politics since 2014 and the demonization of Russia; 6. Taiwan and the possibility of war between US and China; 7. Syria and the US occupation; 8. Citizen influence on foreign policy; 9. Democracy and hidden government operations (CIA operations, psyops, regime-change ops, etc.); 10. Government abuses of power and the possibility of legal redress; 11. Who in fact makes foreign policy; 12. The nature of US foreign relations and the US practice of demonizing target countries; 13. Military spending; 14. What changes in US policy and priorities need to be made; 15. What options are there for change if US policy makers are in fact indifferent to what US citizens think.

What makes this book unique is that it departs from the usual organization of such anthologies. Instead of a collection of separate interviews, the responses to each of Rachels fifteen questions are presented together, question by question. In other words, Question #1 is followed by all the responses to Question #1, then Question #2 is followed by all the responses to Question #2, and so on. This lets the reader consider and compare answers. It a...

Henry Kissinger Turns 100 "IndyWatch Feed Africa"

Once youve been to Cambodia, youll never stop wanting to beat Henry Kissinger to death with your bare hands.

Anthony Bourdain, A Cooks Tour (2002)

If a heavy resume of crimes is a guarantee of longevity, then surely Henry A. Kissinger (HAK, for short), must count as a good specimen. The list of butcheries attributed to his centurion, direct or otherwise, is extensive, his hand in them, finger fat and busy. There were the murderous meddles in Latin America, the conflicts in Vietnam, Laos and Cambodia. (The interventions in Laos and Cambodia are said to have left 350,000 Laotians and 600,000 Cambodians dead.) Then came the selective turning of blind eyes in Indonesia and Pakistan, and the ruthless sponsorship of coups in Africa.

Regarding the Vietnam War, this pornographer of powers deviousness, and his attempt to inveigle himself into the favours of Richard Nixon, running as presidential candidate in 1968, knew no bounds. With privileged access as an advisor to the US State Department, he became the conduit for information to Nixons campaign to sabotage the Johnson Administrations efforts to broker an earlier peace with North Vietnam. This involved convincing South Vietnam that the peace terms they could negotiate would be far more favourable under a Nixon administration. Peace prospects were scuppered; the war continued, eventually yielding a wretched Nobel Peace Prize for the Doctor in 1973. The US forces soon withdrew, leaving the impotent South Vietnamese to be overrun by their stronger Northern opponents.

Nixons electoral victory in 1968 ushered in an era of repeating in these testy times of China ascending and US imperial anxiety. Kissinger, working with Nixon, thought that convincing North Vietnams Ho Chi Minh to return to talks would be helped by targeting North Vietnamese supply routes in Laos and Cambodia. With stomach-churching cynicism, these bombing operations were given various gastronomic names: Operation Menu; Breakfast Plan. When the covert bombing program was exposed by the New York Times on May 9, 1969, Kissinger put the wind up FBI Director J. Edgar Hoover to not only place a number of journalists under surveillance, but a select number of government officials, including his aides in the National Security Council. One of the latter, Morton Halperin, would subsequently sue his former boss, Nixon and the Department of Justice for illegal wiretapping of his home and office phones.

In Chile, Nixon and Kissinger poisoned the waters of that countrys politics, destabilising the democratically elected government of socialist President Salvador Allende and paving the way f.........

US frustrated over Ukrainian attack in Russia "IndyWatch Feed World"

Washington has again dismissed visual proof of US-supplied equipment used in this week's attack by Ukrainian militants in Russia's Belgorod Region as unconfirmed "reports" but admitted the images require further investigation. President Joe Biden's administration, however, has apparently acknowledged concern that Kiev might have broken its alleged pledge not to use American weaponry outside its own territory. White House National Security Council spokesman John Kirby spoke of "frustration" over the attack during a press briefing on Wednesday, US media outlet Politico reported. He noted that the administration is "looking into" the footage indicating that US-supplied equipment "could have been involved" in a deadly raid in the Belgorod district of Grayvoron. "We've been pretty darn clear that we don't support the use of US-made equipment for attacks inside Russia," Kirby told reporters. "We've been clear about that with the Ukrainians. I won't get into private discussions that we're...

Major oil producer fears 'apocalyptic' impact of Russia sanctions "IndyWatch Feed World"

The stability of oil supplies from Kazakhstan to the global market relies on transit through Russia, the country's ambassador to the US, Yerzhan Ashikbayev, has stated. He added that any disruption to flows caused by sanctions could trigger a dire scenario. "We proceed from the mutual interest of all parties, the interest in the stability of the global market, in the stability of supplies. This is vital both for the functioning of our [Kazakh] economy and for the entire global economy," the envoy told RIA Novosti on Thursday on the sidelines of the Trans-Caspian Forum in Washington. When asked whether he sees any risk that sanctions could make it difficult or impossible for Kazakhstan to transit oil, the diplomat described it as "some kind of apocalyptic scenario."

Another reason I wont get Neuralink "IndyWatch Feed Nthamerica"

I was wondering what Neuralink is good for it must be for treating some serious medical condition, since it involves serious surgery. But no! Its just techdude fantasies.

Neuralinks BCI will require patients to undergo invasive brain surgery. Its system centers around the Link, a small circular implant that processes and translates neural signals. The Link is connected to a series of thin, flexible threads inserted directly into the brain tissue where they detect neural signals.

Patients with Neuralink devices will learn to control it using the Neuralink app. Patients will then be able to control external mice and keyboards through a Bluetooth connection, according to the companys website.

An app. Bluetooth. Controlling computer mice.

It absolutely did not help that I am currently using a computer mouse, a cheap wired optical mouse, that has an intermittent fault. Every once in a while, but not often enough to motivate me to get a replacement, the LED cuts out and the buttons stop responding. The fix is to shake the cable or unplug and re-insert the USB cable. Its a bit annoying, I really should just get a new mouse, theyre only about $7.

But now imagine that your Neuralink device has a less than perfect connection: scar tissue builds up, an electrode gets jostled out of position. Every once in a while, the app drops the Bluetooth connection. The artificial limb youre controlling becomes unresponsive, or even worse, you miss a kill shot in Call of Duty (worse, because Ive seen how gamers can explode in fury at the most trivial stuff). Theres no easy cable-jiggling you can do, youre going in for major brain surgery.

Or more likely, youll make do as I am with my mouseyou let it slide, 99% function is good enough. The only thing is, your brain doesnt like wires stuck in it there will be a gradual accumulation of scar tissue and localized damage, the performance of the device will inevitably incrementally deteriorate, and Neuralink doesnt have a good replacement strategy.

Right to repair acquires a new urgency when its a gadget imbedded in your brain. Musk doesnt seem the type to allow outsourcing of his profitable toy, and is probably anticipating making lots of money from obsolescence.

Man arrested with AK-47, handgun and ammo at Virginia preschool "IndyWatch Feed World"

A trespasser carrying an AK-47, handgun and loads of ammo was arrested at a preschool in Virginia, as he claimed he was headed to the nearby CIA headquarters. Eric Sandow, 32, of Florida, was taken into custody on Tuesday at the Dolley Madison preschool in McLean after he was caught sneaking onto school grounds, police said. Officials recovered an AK-47 assault rifle with five extra magazines, a handgun with six extra magazines, as well as several boxes and bags of ammo from Sandow's vehicle. Police said Sandow told them he was actually headed to the CIA's headquarters, in Langley, less than 2 miles away from the school. The preschool said in a statement that Sandow asked to come into the school to use the restroom, which was denied.

UKRAINE CLAIM OF ATTACK ON RUSSIAN SHIP, THE IVAN KHURS, DEBUNKED "IndyWatch Feed War"

By Larry Johnson | SONAR | May 26, 2023

Lets give the Ukrainian Government of Volodomyr Zelensky credit for one thing they are world class liars. Yesterday I wrote about the attempted attack on the Russian ship, the Ivan Khurs, by three maritime drones and simply acknowledged that there was a video that claimed to show one of the drones hitting a ship. It was implied that the ship was the Ivan Khurs but there was no identifying information to corroborate the claim.

Today we know the truth. Ukraine lied. The Ivan Khurs pulled into port in the Black Sea on its own power with no visible damage.

This is a consistent pattern for Ukraine. Remember the Ghost of Kiev? That intrepid Ukrainian ace that allegedly shot down six Russian combat aircraft during the first month of the Special Military Operation? Turns out that was footage lifted from a video game and most of the Western media, not to mention several gullible politicians, gobbled up the lie and exulted over Ukraines faux victory.

Normally a person or institution regularly exposed as a prevaricator would be denounced and ignored. But not Ukraine. Zelensky and company insisted a year ago that Russia had not taken Mariupol despite conclusive video evidence of the remnants of Ukraines neo-Nazi AZOV battalion surrendering to the Russian Chechens as they limped out of the Azovstal steel plant.

Rinse and repeat with Bakhmut. Russias Wagner Group was busy hoisting victory flags over the fallen city while Ukrainian political and military leaders continued to insist that their boys were still in the fight. Nope, they were dead, captured or retreating. It was only today that a Ukrainian official, ex-Prosecutor General Yuriy Lutsenko, finally conceded that Bakhmut was kaput.

The lies and self-delusion are not restricted to Ukraine. In the United States a bi-partisan group of legislators called on Dementia Joe to send Army Tactical Missile System (ATACMS) to Ukraine:

Yesterday, members of the Commission on Security and Cooperation in Europe, also known as the U.S....

Mother's milk helps baby mouse hearts to develop "IndyWatch Feed World"

Heart-muscle cells are endurance athletes, capable of beating for a lifetime. Now, scientists studying mice have discovered how these cells reach their full powers: with the help of mother's milk1. The research shows that a molecule in milk prompts a newborn mouse's heart-muscle cells to shift to a different food source, which then powers the cells through adulthood. This switch happens within the first 24 hours of birth, the authors found. The findings were published today in Nature. Hungry heart The heart muscle is made up of cells called cardiomyocytes, which contract to make the heart beat. The embryo's cardiomyocytes burn mostly glucose and lactic acid. But once these cells are mature, they burn fatty acids, the building blocks of fats. The steps leading to this transformation have been unknown.

Russia's 'all-out support' for Africa will continue - envoy "IndyWatch Feed Africa"

Russia remains "firmly" committed to developing strategic partnerships with countries in Africa, Moscow's ambassador to the United States, Anatoly Antonov, has said. "Through our joint efforts, the continent will become one of the leaders of the emerging multipolar world order. We will counter the neocolonialist ideology that is being imposed from outside," he said on Tuesday at a Russia-Africa gala in Washington ahead of the second Russia-Africa Summit. Western governments have been vocal in their opposition to Russia's growing influence in Africa, with top US officials touring the continent in what Bloomberg described as a "campaign" to build America's influence in the region "where it has lost ground to its main rivals" - Moscow and Beijing. Last year, French President Emmanuel Macron accused Russia of pursuing a "predatory project" to spread influence in African nations, where France, a former colonial power on the continent, has suffered recent setbacks.

Inverted Corporate Capitalism: Blocking Their Owner-Shareholders "IndyWatch Feed War"

It is the season of annual shareholder meetings for giant corporations when CEOs go through the motions of elections for their Board of Directors and approval of other resolutions. People who own stock in General Motors (GM) receive the GM Meeting Information in an envelope emblazoned with this disingenuous message: Your Voice/Your Vote/Be Heard. Every Vote Matters.

When you look inside, you learn that this virtual meeting is on June 20, 2023, live via Webcast. No more in-person shareholder meetings, where at least for a couple of hours a year, the GM CEO, officers and the Board of Directors would have to hear out their powerless owner-shareholders recommendations or complaints. The media reports of these gatherings would sometimes highlight shareholder demands.

Not surprisingly, GM wants its shareholders to vote on managements proposed full agenda, for this globally omnipresent giant auto company with its factories, offices and other installations radiating impact in many directions that affect economics, politics, the environment and lives of workers, taxpayers and consumers.

The agenda reveals the anemic state of individual and institutional shareholders, long disempowered by the corporate toady Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC). GM management only presents seven proposals for a vote. The first is to re-elect its 13-member Board of Directors, starting with Chair and CEO Mary T. Barra. The second is to ratify the election of Ernst & Young LLP as the companys accounting firm. The third is to vote on the advisory approval of Named Executive Officer Compensation, and the fourth is to approve the companys long-term incentive plan.

The GM Board of Directors urged an affirmative vote for these four proposals but they declined to do so for proposals 5, 6 and 7, that came from the owners-shareholders, which means GM, the company, is opposed.

Proposal 5 requested a report on GMs operations in China; Proposal 6 asked for Shareholders Written Consent on some matters; Proposal 7 dealt with sustainable materials procurement targets.

Shockingly, proposals 5, 6, and 7 were too much for the imperial hired bosses of GM, who gave not a single nod to their shareholders requests. And not a single worry that next year would bring heightened indignation by large institutional shareholders (e.g., Fidelity, Vanguard, etc.) or individual owners. Proposals before the SEC to give shareholders more voice on more...

Leading outdoor apparel brand The North Face has partnered with a "drag queen" in advance of LGBTQIA2s+ Pride Month, even selling children's clothing daubed in gay rainbow colors, as part of its "Out in Nature" collection. "Hi, it's me, Pattie Gonia, a real-life homosexual," a mustachioed man says in their new ad, as he announces the Summer of Pride tour for The North Face, a subsidiary of the VF Corporation which also owns brands such as Supreme, Vans, and Timberland. Mr. Gonia opens the ad - in part directed at children - by offering "an invitation to come out..." with a long, suggestive pause, and the words "COME OUT" flashing on screen.

Drone Boats Used in Attack on Russian Ship Ivan Khurs Launched With US Support "IndyWatch Feed War"

Sputnik 27.05.2023

MOSCOW The unmanned boats used in Ukraines failed attack on the ship of the Russian Black Sea Fleet Ivan Khurs were launched from a naval operations center in Ochakov opened with US support in 2018, an informed source told Sputnik.

These devices were launched from the naval operations center, opened with the participation of the United States in Ochakov back in 2018. They were controlled using built-in Starlink satellite internet modules received by Kiev from the United States, the source said, adding that target designation for these drone boats was provided by American reconnaissance equipment.

The source further indicated that Ukraine has received a batch of new marine drones of Western production for carrying out naval attacks and provocations in the Black Sea.

Despite the boasting of Kiev representatives about the use of drones of their own, that is, Ukrainian production, their profile suggests otherwise, the source said. The appearance of Ukrainian Mikola-type naval drones assembled from components supplied to Kiev by NATO does not correspond to the profile of those that attacked the Ivan Khurs.

The new drones were likely produced by the United Kingdom which has extensive experience in the creation and combat use of such systems in various regions of the world ocean, the source said.

It was also pointed out that the location of the attack points toward an escalation of the Russian-Ukrainian conflict and the expansion of its geography.

The sabotage against the Russian Navy in the exclusive maritime economic zone of Turkey, more than 200 nautical miles from the area of the Russian-Ukrainian conflict, is a continuation of the provocative course of the Anglo-Saxons to escalate and expand its geography, the source said.

Earlier this week, the Russian Defense Ministry said that Ukraine had unsuccessfully tried to attack the Ivan Khurs, which ensured the safety of the Turkish Stream and Blue Stream gas pipelines, using unmanned boats.

The Russian Defense Ministry indicated the foiled attack ended with all of the offending boats being destroyed by the Russian military 140 kilometers (87 miles) northeast of the Bosphorus Strait.

The Ivan Khurs vessel has since continued to execute its duties despite the earlier sabotage attempt.

Thered have to be something wrong with your brain to sign up for a Neuralink trial "IndyWatch Feed Nthamerica"

Has anybody read The Terminal Man by Michael Crichton? Its about a man who gets a brain implant to correct his epilepsy, but then it starts triggering increasingly violent crimes. I strongly dislike everything Crichton ever wrote he was a Luddite who doesnt know what hes talking about, while the press and the public fawn over his bad science but for the first time, I feel like he might have been onto something.

Reportedly, Elon Musk has gotten FDA approval to stick chronic electrodes into peoples brains. Why youd want anything associated with that incompetent boob permanently wired into your brain is a mystery.

The FDA acknowledged in a statement that the agency cleared Neuralink to use its brain implant and surgical robot for trials on patients but declined to provide more details.

Neuralink and Musk did not respond to Reuters requests for comment.

The story has triggered my internal Michael Crichton and now Im wondering what horror will result from this decision.

  • Patients will start murdering people ala The Terminal Man (or Musks self-driving software) as Neuralink misfires.
  • Neuralink will catch fire and burn down to the patients basicranium.
  • Neuralink will explode when its switched on, cratering the patients head.
  • Neuralink will attract Nazis who will fill the patients brain with bad ideas.
  • Neuralink will do nothing at all, but it will distract the patient from investing in better treatments.

My imagination fails. Youll have to think of all the likely horrible consequences of getting a Neuralink implant.

The government will run out of money by June 5th "IndyWatch Feed Nthamerica"

As of Thursdays close, the amount of cash in the governments account was just $38.837 billion, the lowest it has been since the current debt ceiling crisis began. To get a sense of how small that figure is, it is less than the net worth of 31 individuals in the US, even though the size of US economy is of the order of $27 trillion. Or if one wanted to look at it another way, it is also an indicator of the obscene wealth accumulation in the US that allows individuals to have more than the government has in its cash account.

Treasury secretary Janet Yellen warned some months ago that the government would run out of money sometime around June 1. Skeptics accused her of scaremongering and that the so-called X-date would be much later, maybe even in July or August. It is hard to estimate the exact date since revenues and expenditure vary on a day-by-day basis. But it is beginning to look like she was pretty accurate and yesterday she provided a much firmer date, and that it would be June 5th.

Based on the most recent available data, we now estimate that Treasury will have insufficient resources to satisfy the governments obligations if Congress has not raised or suspended the debt limit by June 5, she wrote in a letter to House Speaker Kevin McCarthy.

Yellens new estimate contains more specificity than her earlier guidance. By June 5, she said in Fridays letter, whereas her last two letters to Congress suggested a little more uncertainty as early as June 1 was the phrasing she used.

The exact timing of the so-called X-date, when the U.S. will not be able to pay its bills, has a degree of uncertainty, as the Treasury Department tracks money coming into and leaving its coffers.

We will make more than $130 billion of scheduled payments in the first two days of June, including payments to veterans and Social Security and Medicare recipients. These payments will leave Treasury with an extremely low level of resources, Yellen wrote.

She noted the Treasury Department is scheduled to make an estimated $92 billion in payments and transfers the week of June 5 and said the government would not have adequate resources to satisfy all of its obligations.

So here we are, on the brink again.

It is a crazy way to run the economy.

Sony a9 Cameras and Linux "IndyWatch Feed Tech"

When blogging, I usually sit on the couch with my laptop on my lap (as is logical), typing away in Emacs in ewp mode, snapping pics of stuff (mostly comics) in bad lighting conditions.

Taking nice snaps of things is a breeze if the lighting is good (i.e., sufficient), or if youve got a camera on a mount, but thats not what were dealing with here: I want to snap pics in a frictionless manner, because I dont have no time for no futzing around.

Over the years, Ive tried a bunch of different cameras, but within my (peculiar) constraints, its just hard to not end up with blurry, out of focus images with bad white balance. What Im currently using is a Sony a9 II camera with a 50mm lens (fixed lens since I cant change focal length and hold both the camera and a comic book at the same time), set at f/12 (because Im snapping pics of comics that Im often holding in an angled way to avoid reflections, and anything less than that (at this distance) will mean that half the book is out of focus) and 1/25 (because anything slower than that will mean that the book is blurred from either my comic holding hand or my camera holding hand shaking).

(Auto white balance, though, auto focus, and I have to adjust the brightness of the image throughout the day/night by adjusting the ISO.)

See what serious problems Im having!

But thats not what this blog post is about: Its about image transfer.

For almost a decade Ive been using Toshiba FlashAir SD cards to transfer images from whatever camera Ive been using to my laptop (and then automatically into Emacs). It works fine but there are some janky...

I hope you choke on your birthday cake, Henry "IndyWatch Feed Nthamerica"

Today is an evil birthday, a reminder that the universe is not fair and just.

Henry Kissinger is turning 100 this week, and his centennial is prompting assorted hosannas about perhaps the most influential American foreign policymaker of the 20th century. The Economist observed that his ideas have been circling back into relevancy for the last quarter century. The Times of London ran an appreciation: Henry Kissinger at 100: What He Can Tell Us About the World. Policy shops and think tanks have held conferences to mark this milestone. CBS News aired a mostly fawning interview veteran journalist Ted Koppel conducted with Kissinger that included merely a glancing reference to the ignoble and bloody episodes of his career. Kissinger is indeed a monumental figure who shaped much of the past 50 years. He brokered the US opening to China and pursued detente with the Soviet Union during his stints as President Richard Nixons national security adviser and secretary of state. Yet it is an insult to history that he is not equally known and regarded for his many acts of treacherysecret bombings, coup-plotting, supporting military juntasthat resulted in the death of hundreds of thousands.

The news, as usual, was sickening. Kissinger is generally treated as distinguished, honorable statesman, and his crimes are glossed over because, obviously, hes a very old man and hes celebrating a birthday. You dont want to ruin his birthday, do you? (Yes, I do.) So the Washington Post runs a piece written by Kissingers son, David, that

tells us all about his secret for living so long a diet heavy on bratwurst and Wiener schnitzel, a career of relentlessly stressful decision-making, and a love of sports purely as a spectator, never a participant. He forgets never having a speck of empathy for others, and never ever facing the consequences of his decisions. He has seen some of those consequences, but they do not deter him.

As a refugee from Nazi Germany, he had lost 13 family members and countless friends to the Holocaust. He returned to his native Germany as an American soldier, participating in the liberation of the Ahlem concentration camp near Hannover. There, he witnessed the depths to which mankind can sink unconstrained by international structures of peace and justice. Next mon...

Wakka Wakka! This Turing Machine Plays Pac-Man "IndyWatch Feed Tech"

As I read the newest papers about DNA-based computing, I had to confront a rather unpleasant truth. Despite being a geneticist who also majored in computer science, I was struggling to bridge two conceptsthe universal Turing machine, the very essence of computing, and the von Neumann architecture, the basis of most modern CPUs. I had written C++ code to emulate the machine described in Turings 1936 paper, and could use it to decide, say, if a word was a palindrome. But I couldnt see how such a machinewith its one-dimensional tape memory and ability to look at only one symbol on that tape at a timecould behave like a billion-transistor processor with hardware features such as an arithmetic logic unit (ALU), program counter, and instruction register.

I scoured old textbooks and watched online lectures about theoretical computer science, but my knowledge didnt advance. I decided I would build a physical Turing machine that could execute code written for a real processor.

Rather than a billion-transistor behemoth, I thought Id target the humble 8-bit 6502 microprocessor. This legendary chip powered the computers I used in my youth. And as a final proof, my simulated processor would have to run Pac-Man, specifically .

In Turings paper, his eponymous machine is an abstract concept with infinite memory. Infinite memory isnt possible in reality, but physical Turing machines can be built with enough memory for the task at hand. The hardware implementation of a Turing machine can be organized around a rule book and a notepad. Indeed, when we do basic arithmetic, we use a rule book in our head (such as knowing when to carry a 1). We manipulate numbers and other symbols using these rules, stepping through the process for, say, long division. There are key differences, though. We can move all over a two-dimensional notepad, doing a scratch calculation in the...

Collective Risk From Social Control Networks

Summary: With the Tux Machines anniversary (19 years) just days away we seriously consider abandoning all social control media accounts of that site, including Mastodon and Diaspora; social control networks do far more harm than good and theyve gotten a lot worse over time

AMONG the potential topics for today weve included the impact of social control media by peer, e.g. within families (dinner table, sleep) or inside workplaces. Ive meanwhile noticed, as stated in the above video, that Mastodons largest instance does not like GNU/Linux sites. It does not like GNU/Linux users, either. Tux Machines (username tuxmachines) has been delisted and demoted; its not visible, even if its still there, and nothing gets imported into the account.

Iraq has launched an ambitious 1,200km rail and road infrastructure project spanning the length of the country, which seeks to link Europe with the Middle East and Asia.

The $17bn project, dubbed the "Route of Development", would tie the Grand Faw Port in the oil-rich south of the country to the Turkish border in the north. It could rival Egypt's Suez Canal as the region's transportation hub.

Iraqi Prime Minister Mohamed Shia al-Sudani launched the plan during a conference on Saturday with transport ministry officials from Iran, Jordan, Kuwait, Oman, Qatar, Saudi Arabia, Syria and the United Arab Emirates

"We see this project as a pillar of a sustainable non-oil economy, a link that serves Iraq's neighbours and the region, and a contribution to economic integration efforts," Sudani said.

The project will include high-speed trains moving both goods and passengers at up to 300km per hour, and reconstructing the country's road network.

Its Official: Russia Declares Intent to make PRE-EMPTIVE NUCLEAR STRIKE if West goes ahead with Ukraine Getting Nuclear-Capable F-16s "IndyWatch Feed War"

Hal Turner The Hal Turner Show May 26, 2023

The possible transfer of nuclear weapons to Ukraine from the West will cause a preemptive strike by Russia, said Dmitry Medvedev, deputy chairman of the Russian Security Council.

The statement was made during his visit to Vietnam.

Medvedev explained that the allies of Ukraine can put into service not only F-16 fighters, which is no longer excluded, but also nuclear weapons.

As reported by the Hal Turner Radio Show in a Subscribers-Only report on 23 May, debate within NATO over supplying Ukraine with F-16s centers around the United States INISISTENCE the planes be a specially-modified model capable of carrying the U.S.  B-61 free-fall nuclear bomb.  The U.S. is also insisting that NATO countries train Ukraine pilots on how to utilize such nuclear bombs.  (That original Subscribers-Only story appears HERE)

This has caused a gigantic rift within NATO. The United States, Great Britain, Poland, and Germany are in favor of this idea, while Turkey, Greece, and Hungary are against it.

If this happens, they must be prepared for a retaliatory strike with a nuclear charge  said Medvedev.

Medvedev emphasized that if the situation comes to the point that nuclear weapons are being transferred to Ukraine, a preventive strike from Russia becomes inevitable.

He expressed confidence that many in the Western world are not fully aware of the seriousness of this issue, believing that the situation will not reach such a critical level. However, according to Medvedev, under certain circumstances, the situation may come to this.

A similar statement was made in the context of Medvedevs harsh response to the call of G7 countries for the inadmissibility of nuclear war.

They demand some guarantees from Russia on nuclear weapons, but, in fact, imply the possibility of a future nuclear conflict between our country and NATO,  noted Medvedev.

Spacetop is an augmented reality laptop for remote working on the go "IndyWatch Feed Tech"

Human-computer interaction company Sightful is releasing its first product, Spacetop, a screen-less augmented reality laptop projecting tabs across a 100-inch virtual screen. The laptop if you can call it that is a hardware deck and full-size keyboard with a pair of tailored NReal glasses. The glasses project tabs directly in front of whatever the user is looking at while remaining invisible to anyone else.

Specs-wise, Spacetop is running a Snapdragon 865 paired with an Adreno 650 GPU, 8GB RAM and 256GB storage, putting it in the same class as some of the smartphones that are already capable of driving AR glasses. Its not smartphone-sized, however, measuring 1.57-inches high, 10.47-inches wide and 8.8-inches deep, and it weighs in at 3.3 pounds, the same as plenty of laptops we could choose to mention here.

Sightful is clearly gunning for a crossover hit in the work-from-home-or-anywhere market. Laptops are the centerpiece of our daily working lives, but the technology has not evolved with the modern, work from anywhere, privacy matters, road warrior mentality. Meanwhile, augmented reality is full of potential and promise but is yet to find its daily use case, said Tamir Berliner, Sightful co-founder who previously worked at both Leap Motion and Primesense. We are at the perfect moment for a significant paradigm shift in a device we all know and love.

Wind Powered Electrolysis Projects Have Been Slow to Materialize "IndyWatch Feed Enviro"

Green hydrogen: full of promise but not without risk | November 2022 (Allianz Speciality)

Green hydrogen faces significant step-up challenge says report
.
.
From an Article by Janet Wood, Wind Power Monthly, 25 May 2023
.
.
Electrolysis projects are taking longer to deliver than expected due to lack of government support.

More than 1,000 large-scale project proposals had been announced by the end of January 2023 for all types of low-carbon hydrogen, according to the Hydrogen Insights report, produced by McKinsey consultancy and the Hydrogen Council.

It expected 795 projects to be fully or partially commissioned by the end of 2030, representing total investments of $320 billion and capacity of 38Mt per year.

About 25Mt of that capacity is from renewables. The report said that of the 12Mt of projects added in the past eight months, about 10 Mt are renewable hydrogen. It pointed to the high growth in announcements in renewables-rich regions such as Africa and the Middle East.

But projects are taking longer to deliver than expected, the report warned. Out of the 6GW of electrolysis projects due for deployment by the end of 2022, only 700MW have been delivered largely in China.

More than 200GW of electrolysis capacity is needed by 2030 to track net zero in 2050, according to the report more than 200 times the capacity installed today. The next three to five years represent a significant scale-up challenge, it added.

The report blamed slow deployment on lack of government support and slow permitting, supply chain and engineering, procurement and construction capacity constraints. It also lamented the high cost of deploying projects while offtakers would not pay a green premium.

Some 120GW of electrolysis projects were undergoing feasibility studies, the report said, while only 9GW had achieved final investment decision (FID). Geographically, Europe is the largest market but has less than 1.5GW past the FID stage.

Momentum is strong, and the industry is planning investments into clean hydrogen, yet much more needs to be done, the report concluded.

The G7 is an outdated tool of the US neo-empire "IndyWatch Feed World"

Washington has co-opted both winners and losers of World War II into defending Western domination around the globe. The summit of G7 nations took place in Hiroshima, Japan over the last weekend. Hiroshima is significant for a few reasons. First of all, it is known to the world as the location that the United States nuked, along with Nagasaki, at the end of World War II, which led to the surrender of the Empire of Japan and that country's transformation into a US client state.

THE MISSING COMMODORE 64 MANUAL! "IndyWatch Feed Tech"

THE MISSING COMMODORE 64 MANUAL!

Mastering Machine Code on Your Commodore 64 by Mark Greenshields

The Missing Manual is a series of books by Pogue Press/OReilly & Associates Inc, but from what I can tell they never published one for the Commodore 64. However, heres a book Ive recently found which certainly fits the bill. This book is called Mastering Machine Code on Your Commodore 64 by Mark Greenshields, published by Interface Publications in 1984! It was first printed in May 1984, not long after I got my Commodore 64.

After reading it, I can definitely say that it should have been licensed by Commodore and included in the box which every Commodore 64 was supplied with. Of course, the reason why it wasnt given away by Commodore was probably because it cost 7.95. Commodore Founder Jack Tramiels original reason for buying a perpetual license for the Microsoft 6502 8K BASIC in 1976 (antique by the time the C64 was released)  was so that he didnt have to pay a US$3 royalty for each single computer he sold. The exchange rates for the Pound Sterling against the US Dollar during this time period (according to https://www.macrotrends.net/2549/pound-dollar-exchange-rate-historical-chart ; ) were 1.00 = US$2.03 on January 5, 1976;&nbsp...

Anonymously Travelling: Still Feasible? "IndyWatch Feed Tech"

Anonymous Travel as a Right
Creative Commons Attribution-No Derivative Works 4.0

Summary: The short story is that in the UK its still possible to travel anonymously by bus, tram, and train (even with shades, hat and mask/s on), but how long for? Or how much longer have we got before this too gets banned under the false guise of protecting us (or smart/modern)?

THE element of curious Roy has long motivated and led me to testing all sorts of stores and businesses, sometimes even government departments. I did assessments and surveys, then published the outcomes in my personal site. Back in the days there were media/societal watchdogs that did this routinely and reported their latest-found outcomes.

Surveillance states mostly punish law-abiding people. The other day I decided to check the experience of travelling by train anonymously. In a nutshell, its still possible to purchase train tickets and travel anonymously. Its also possible to do this with an actual human and the queue was short even at 8:30AM. Yes, actual humans are available! And they talk back at you with advice and stuff

Of course not every train station still has humans available. In some countries the regime and the corporations (graft) try to herd people into smart apps and other such nonsense. Those should not be needed. More of that is covered in the video above, including why in a free society anonymous travel is still very important. In some parts of the world its already impossible to travel privately in a car, unless its a stolen car. Does this prevent crime? Hardly. Many criminals already exercise special caution and steal cars, from which crimes get committed. Surveillance states mostly punish law-abiding people.

Other Flood Warnings are in effect for parts of Dundy, Chase, Hayes, Hitchcock, Red Willow, and Frontier Counties in Southwest Nebraska. Doppler radar indicated thunderstorms have already produced as much as 5 to 10 inches of rain in the warned areas. Some of those areas may continue to receive additional heavy rainfall. At High School Debates, Debate Is No Longer Allowed "IndyWatch Feed Tech"

At national tournaments, judges are making their stances clear: students who argue 'capitalism can reduce poverty' or 'Israel has a right to defend itself' will loseno questions asked:

First, some background. Imagine a high school sophomore on the debate team. She's been given her topic about a month in advance, but she won't know who her judge is until hours before her debate round. During that time squeezeperhaps she'll pace the halls as I did at the 2012 national tournament in Indianapolisshe'll scroll on her phone to look up her judge's name on Tabroom, a public database maintained by the NSDA [National Speech and Debate Association]. That's where judges post "paradigms," which explain what they look for during a debate. If a judge prefers competitors not "spread"speak a mile a minutedebaters will moderate their pace. If a judge emphasizes "impacts"the reasons why an argument mattersdebaters adjust accordingly.

But let's say when the high school sophomore clicks Tabroom she sees that her judge is Lila Lavender, the 2019 national debate champion, whose paradigm reads, "Before anything else, including being a debate judge, I am a Marxist-Leninist-Maoist. . . . I cannot check the revolutionary proletarian science at the door when I'm judging. . . . I will no longer evaluate and thus never vote for rightest capitalist-imperialist positions/arguments. . . . Examples of arguments of this nature are as follows: fascism good, capitalism good, imperialist war good, neoliberalism good, defenses of US or otherwise bourgeois nationalism, Zionism or normalizing Israel, colonialism good, US white fascist policing good, etc."

[...] Traditionally, high school students would have encountered a judge like former West Point debater Henry Smith, whose paradigm asks students to "focus on clarity over speed" and reminds them that "every argument should explain exactly how [they] win the debate."

In the past few years, however, judges with paradigms tainted by politics and ideology are becoming common. Debate judge Shubham Gupta's paradigm reads, "If you are discussing immigrants in a round and describe the person as 'illegal,' I will immediately stop the round, give you the loss with low speaks"low speaker points"give you a stern lecture, and then talk to your coach. . . . I will not have you making the debate space unsafe."

THE EU is about to get contaminated with the EPO cancer (EPO staff compares the administration to a cancer). Will that doom the union? Well, it certainly wont help.

To get promoted in these institutions one must be profoundly corrupt or participate in profound corruption. In past years we covered EUIPO corruption that had come from (or via) the EPO. A Bullet Time Video Booth You Can Build "IndyWatch Feed Tech"

[Sebastian Staacks] built a video booth for his wedding, and the setup was so popular with family, that it was only fitting to do one better and make some improvements to the setup, Matrix-style. The bullet time video effect was introduced by the classic movie franchise and makes for a splendid video transition effect for video montages.

Hardware-wise, the effect is pretty expensive, requiring many cameras at various angles to be simultaneously triggered, in order to capture the subject in a fixed pose with a rotating camera. Essentially you need as many cameras as frames in the sequence, so even at 24 frames per second (FPS), thats a lot of hardware. [Sebastian] cheated a bit, and used a single front-facing camera for the bulk of the video recording, and twelve individual DSLRs covering approximately 90 degrees of rotation for the transition. More than that is likely impractical (not to mention rather expensive) for an automated setup used in as chaotic an environment as a wedding reception! So, the video effect is quite the sam...

A BIT less than a week before the EPO wanted (or merely hoped) to open an illegal and unconstitutional kangaroo court, in violation of international conventions, some condemnation came from the German press. Criticism of the European Patent Office Patents without value

Munich To increase its revenues, the European Patent Office grants questionable patents, say critics. Transparency International sees structures that favour corruption.

By Thomas Magenheim-Hrmann

The example described by the Munich patent attorney makes it clear what is at stake. A pharmaceutical company developed a pill against infertility, had it protected at the European Patent Office (EPO) and invested in its marketing. Then a rival entered the market with an alleged plagiarism. The patent holder went to court and lost. The alleged imitator was able to show a US patent that Epa examiners had overlooked. This rendered their property right worthless. In extreme cases, this can cause millions in damages, explains the patent attorney, who wishes to remain anonymous. He works for one of the largest patent law firms in Europe. Patenting for several countries alone consumes a six-figure sum, and many times that amount is invested in production in reliance on the patent.

There is a system of lame searches, the expert complains. Examiners are encouraged to grant more and more patents because they maximise the offices income. Quality research falls by the wayside. Michael Heisel puts the grievances even higher. We see structural problems at the EPO that facilitate corruption, says the Bavarian head of the anti-corr...

New Buhti ransomware operation uses rebranded LockBit and Babuk payloads "IndyWatch Feed Tech"

The recently identified Buhti operation targets organizations worldwide with rebranded LockBit and Babuk ransomware variants.

Researchers from Symantec discovered a new ransomware operation called Buhti (aka Blacktail) that is using LockBit and Babuk variants to target Linux and Windows systems worldwide.

The ransomware operation hasnt its own ransomware payload, however, it uses a custom information stealer to target specified file types.

The Buhti operation has been active since February 2023, it was initially spotted attacking Linux systems, but later Symantecs Threat Hunter Team also identified attacks on Windows computers.

The group was observed quickly exploiting recently disclosed vulnerabilities, such as the recently patched PaperCut vulnerability.

In a recent attack against Windows systems, Buhti operators used "https://securityaffairs.com/136056/data-breach/lockbit-3-0-builder-leak.html"> LockBit 3.0 (aka LockBit Black) ransomware. The builder used by the operators was leaked in September 2022 by a disgruntled developer in response to Russian invasion of the Ukraine.

The ransomware appends the .buthi extension to the encrypted files.

The researchers also observed attacks against Linux systems with Golang-based variants of the Babuk ransomware, which was released on hacking forums in September 2021. This variant used in the attacks targets...

Egyptian wrestler flees to France

An Egyptian wrestler secretly left his team to head for France after taking part in an international tournament in Tunisia, sparking controversy in his home country, according to a report in London-based Al-Quds Al-Arabi.

Ahmed Bagdouda fled from the national team camp during the African Championship in Tunisia, in which he finished second.

The incident has raised questions in Egypt about low salaries and public attention for athletes participating in individual sports, with a perception that Egyptian media tend to focus on team sports such as football, according to Al-Quds Al-Arabi.

Egyptian MP Mohamed Zaki submitted a briefing request on Bagdouda's departure to Prime Minister Mustafa Madbouly.

Zaki demanded to find out the reasons that led to his move, as well as the stance of the Egyptian Wrestling Federation, particularly given that this was not the first instance of athletes fleeing team camps.

Twitter Leaves Voluntary EU Agreement Aimed at Fighting Disinformation "IndyWatch Feed Nthamerica"

A high-ranking European Union (EU) official announced late Friday that Twitter is withdrawing from a voluntary agreement between the EU and social media companies that is meant to combat online disinformation.

When this Code of Practice was adopted, major platforms and search engines like Google, TikTok, Microsoft, and Meta, the parent company of Facebook and Instagram, signed up to participate. But now, Twitter is out.

Twitter leaves EU voluntary Code of Practice against disinformation, European Commissioner Thierry Breton wrote on the social media platform itself. But obligations remain.

What Breton is referring to is that many of the voluntary practices outlined in the agreement will become mandatory once the EUs new Digital Services Act (DSA) takes effect on August 25.

Beginning then, the largest social media platforms doing business in the EU have to take a series of steps designed to fight disinformation. These include making it easier for users to report hate speech and other illegal content, ensuring a high level of safety and privacy for minors, and preventing their algorithms from amplifying disinformation.

Earlier this year, Twitter was the only social media platform that failed to provide a complete report on how it will address disinformation and foreign interference in elections etc.

Ever since purchasing the company late last year, billionaire Elon Musk has made a series of often-controversial changes to Twitter, including instituting a pay-to-play verification system. Critics say many of these have resulted in less content moderation, opened the door for more disinformation, and allowed right-wing extremists who had previously been banned to return to the platform.

The first time I heard about a deer reserve in Lebanon was through Plus961 and today I learned about Haidara, also known as Lebanons Little Petra.

The Haidara monument is located in the village of Qab Elias, overlooking the Bekaa valley. It consists of a 10 meter long monument, possibly a Roman tomb, carved into a steep limestone cliff. Its 13 meters wide and was called Temple of the Sun due to its polished faade that reflects the first rays of the sun.

According to another source, there was once a mirror on the face of the building that used to reflect sunlight down into the village, related to sun-worshiping Roman practices.

How Irish media coverage of Northern Ireland fails to inform people in the south "IndyWatch Feed Politics.eu"

Earlier this week I addressed the Belfast dialogue group Compass Points on the coverage of Northern Ireland by the media in remarks.

The first thing I should say is that what follows are the views of a former Irish Times journalist, a man in his seventies; a long-time resident of Dublin (although born in County Antrim), who was a Northern Ireland reporter for the BBC and that newspaper in the late 1970s and 1980s; who went back to Belfast in the early 1990s as coordinator of the independent Opsahl Commission, and from 1999-2013 set up and ran the Centre for Cross Border Studies in Armagh. So mine is a particular and maybe outdated view, and probably one not informed enough by contemporary social and online media. But for what its worth, here it is.

The key thing to understand about the Southern medias coverage of the North is that it is serving a constituency which is largely uninterested in and indifferent to Northern Ireland. The former Director-General of RTE, Bob Collins (who also knows the North well as a former chief commissioner of the NI Equality Commission), used to say that there was interest in the 1970s, 1980s and early 1990s, when the main evening news bulletin carried graphic daily footage of killings and bombings in Belfast, Derry and elsewhere, but since the Northern violence largely finished at the end of the 1990s, that interest declined and eventually all but disappeared. That is still the situation today.

I always say that in more than 50 years of living off and on in Dublin, I cant recall a single well-informed conversation with the journalists, academics, teachers, civil servants, cultural and voluntary sector workers who make up my friendship group about what reunification with the difficult and divided North might mean for the politics, economics and culture of the complacent and in recent years rather successful society that is the Republic of Ireland. And all these people are avid newspaper readers and TV news and current affairs watchers.

Im going to focus today on the two media outlets I know best, the Irish Times and RTE. Perusing the other two main national dailies, the Irish Independent and the Irish Examiner, in recent weeks in preparation for this talk, I found almost nothing about Northern Ireland. The Sunday Independent is unusual (apart from its anti-Sinn Fein tone): because of the joint ownership of that paper and the Belfast Telegraph, it carries a weekly column from the excellent Northern journalist Sam McBride.

The Irish Times and RTE do each keep two full-time journalists in Belfast (all, incidentally, from a nationalist background). These are good journalists and I have no criticism of them when it comes to reporting the politics and it is overwhelmingly the politics they report of Northern Ireland. I should also say that the covera...

Artificial muscle fibers could serve as cell scaffolds "IndyWatch Feed Tech"

In two new studies, North Carolina State University researchers have designed and tested a series of textile fibers that can change shape and generate force like a muscle. In the first study, published in Actuators, the researchers focused on the materials influence on artificial muscles strength and contraction length. The findings could help researchers tailor the fibers for different applications.

In the second, proof-of-concept study published in Biomimetics, the researchers tested their fibers as scaffolds for . Their findings suggest the fibersknown as fiber robotscould potentially be used to develop 3D models of living, moving systems in the human body.

We found that our fiber robot is a very suitable scaffold for the cells, and we can alter the frequency and contraction ratio to create a more suitable environment for cells, said Muh Amdadul Hoque, graduate student in textile engineering, chemistry and science at NC State. These were proof-of concept studies; ultimately, our goal is to see if we can study these fibers as a scaffold for stem cells, or use them to develop artificial organs in future studies.

In a first, researchers capture fleeting transition state in ring-shaped molecules excited by light "IndyWatch Feed Tech"

Using a high-speed electron camera at the Department of Energys SLAC National Accelerator Laboratory and cutting-edge quantum simulations, scientists have directly imaged a photochemical transition state, a specific configuration of a molecules atoms determining the chemical outcome, during a ring-opening reaction in the molecule -terpinene. This is the first time that scientists have precisely tracked molecular structure through a photochemical ring-opening reaction, triggered when light energy is absorbed by a substances molecules.

The results, published in Nature Communications, could further our understanding of similar reactions with vital roles in chemistry, such as the production of vitamin D in our bodies.

Transition states generally occur in which are triggered not by light but by heat. They are like a point of no return for molecules involved in a chemical reaction: As the molecules gain the energy needed to fuel the reaction, they rearrange themselves into a fleeting configuration before they complete their transformation into new molecules.

German Media About Industry Patent Quality Charter (IPQC) and the European Patent Office (EPO) "IndyWatch Feed Tech"

Siemens is one of the largest applicants at the European Patent Office.

Summary: SUEPO has just released 3 translations of new articles in German; this is the first of the three (Industrie kritisiert Europisches Patentamt)

THE following was translated by staff of the EPO. The staff wants to general public to know this:

Industry criticises European Patent Office

An initiative of several large companies is concerned about the quality of patent examinations at the European Patent Office. There, speed comes before accuracy, they say. The office sees things differently.

The European Patent Office (EPO) has come in for criticism from industry. An initiative of now 21 companies is concerned about the quality of patent examination. We have the impression that the EPO is primarily concerned with processing as many patents as possible, says Beat Weibel, head of patents at Siemens, who initiated the Industry Patent Quality Charter (IPQC), in an interview with the Deutsche Presse-Agentur. Examiners, he says, are exposed to ever-increasing production pressure and are therefore no longer in a position to examine thoroughly enough. While in our case we see that the amount of work required for a patent application on average is always bigger, things have to move faster and faster at the EPO, explains Weibel. That worries us because the quality of the examination suffers as a result. He does not receive exact figures from the EPO on the time budget of the examiners, he says. But if you look at the number of examiners and the number of examinations patents, the result is roughly a halving over the past ten years.

Jrg Thomaier, head of patents at Bayer, which is also a member of the IPQC, shares Weibels
concerns.

The EPO used to be known for taking a long time to test. In recent years, we have the impression that more attention is paid to speed and that examinations are no longer as thorough, he says. Things are faster now, but the revocation rate in the patent appeal process has gone up...

Residents shelter indoors as storm bends trees, reduces visibility to near-zero in Oman "IndyWatch Feed World"

Oman is facing a period of turbulent weather, as heavy rain and strong winds wreak havoc in the Gulf country. Videos circulating on social media show the impact of the storm. The fronds of palm trees sway dangerously as an entire trash can lays on its side in the middle of a road in a residential area, blown over by the wind. It is hard to make out what is happening in some videos, as visibility has dropped to a near-zero level. Residents have taken shelter inside buildings as the conditions outside become increasingly hostile. In the video below, a man holds doors to a store shut as cardboard boxes and other objects tear down the street in the storm.

Supreme Court of Ukraine Releases a Prisoner of Conscience: Conscientious Objector Vitaly Alekseenko "IndyWatch Feed War"

By European Bureau for Conscientious Objection, May 27, 2023

On May 25, 2023, at the Supreme Court of Ukraine in Kyiv, the court of cassation overturned the conviction of prisoner of conscience Vitaly Alekseenko (who attended by video link from prison), and ordered his immediate release from prison and his retrial in the court of first instance. EBCO delegate Derek Brett travelled from Switzerland to Ukraine and attended the court hearing as international observer.

The European Bureau for Conscientious Objection (EBCO), War Resisters International (WRI) and Connection e.V. (Germany) welcome the judgment of the Supreme Court of Ukraine to release conscientious objector Vitaly Alekseenko and call for the dropping of charges against him.

This outcome is far better than I ever expected when I set out for Kyiv, and it could be a landmark decision, but we will not know for sure until we see the reasoning. And meanwhile let us not forget that Vitaly Alekseenko is not yet completely out of the wood, Derek Brett stated today.

We are concerned that retrial was ordered instead of acquittal. There is a lot of work ahead to uphold the right to refuse to kill for all those whose the right to conscientious objection was violated; but today freedom for Vitaly Alekseenko, at last, is secured following a series of calls of international civil society and peace movements. This is an achievement of all thousands of people, some of them very far from Ukraine, who cared, prayed, took action and expressed their support and solidarity in different ways. Thank you all, it is our common cause to celebrate, Yurii Sheliazhenko added.

An amicus curiae brief in support of Vitaly Alekseenko was jointly filed before the hearing by Derek Brett, EBCO delegate and Chief Editor of EBCOs Annual Report on Conscientious Objection to Military Service in Europe, Foivos Iatrellis, honorary Legal Adviser to the State (Greece), member of Amnesty International Greece, and memb...

Gemini is Growing, But Growth Not Measured

Summary: A Gemini crawler called Lupa (Free/libre software) has been used for years by Stphane Bortzmeyer to study Gemini and report on how the community was evolving, especially from a technical perspective; but his own instance of Lupa has produced no up-to-date results for several weeks

THE work of Stphane Bortzmeyer, notably Lupa, has helped us estimate the growth of Gemini in general (as a protocol). But the Botond/Bortzmeyer-led capsules (the former charts the latter) stopped updating their numbers that track Geminis growth; maybe its just too big and expensive for Stphane to track all the time, as its not 2020 anymore and many thousands of capsules exist, counting subsites (in the domain sense) too.

Its perfectly plausible and possible that Bortzmeyer isnt aware of the issue and has just accidentally let the job fail (Botond uses a cron job at 1AM UTC since last year). The video above explains that, based on our own experience, Gemini continues to grow. Even in the absence of crawlers estimating and reporting this growth, were optimistic and last month was record traffic for us. Were talking about lots and lots of Gemini pages (about half a million pages in one month). Its perfectly plausible and possible that Bortzmeyer isnt aware of the issue and has just accidentally let the job fail (Botond uses a cron job at 1AM UTC since last year). radia.bortzmeyer.org is definitely active this month. Either way, tracking the growth of Geminispace has become a computationally expensive (and thus financial burdensome) task. It did help a lot &#...

The pro-Kurdish Party of Greens and the Left Future (YSP) and the Peoples' Democratic Party (HDP) have reaffirmed their support for Kemal Kilicdaroglu, the joint presidential candidate of the opposition, in the run-off election on Sunday.

However, this support is laced with reluctance, primarily due to the agreement reached between Kilicdaroglu's Republican People's Party (CHP) and the far-right Victory Party (ZP).

According to the agreement signed on Wednesday, the fight against terrorist organisations, such as the Fethullah Terror Organization (Feto), the Islamic State group (IS) and the Kurdistan Workers' Party (PKK), would continue. Additionally, court verdicts would still lead to the appointment of trustees in local municipalities.

Since a failed coup attempt in 2016, the Turkish government has wielded significant power, using consecutive curfews as a pretext to eliminate elected HDP mayors on the grounds of alleged involvement in terrorist activities.

Since the last local elections in 2019, the government has appointed 48 trustees to 65 HDP municipalities. HDP sources have criticised the government for violating the rule of law, arguing that the new mayor should be elected by the municipality council in the event of the removal of an incumbent mayor.

Restoring Dot Matrix Printer Cartridges For 2023 "IndyWatch Feed Tech"

The noise of a dot matrix printer is probably as synonymous with 1980s computing as the modem handshake would become with the desktop experience a decade or more later. But unlike the computers that would have driven it, a dot matrix printer can still be a very useful device here in 2023. And why not? Theyre cheap to operate and can produce surprisingly good quality when paired with suitable drivers. There is a snag though; while cartridges for popular models can still be found, there are plenty whose consumables are long gone. [Drygol] had an Apple ImageWriter II with exactly that problem, and after finding all his cartridges were non-functional, took a look at how to bring them back.

Inside a dot matrix cartridge is a fabric ribbon similar to the one that might once have been found on a typewriter. Its not on a roll but folded into the space, and its drawn through by a pair of rollers. Not only had the ink on the fabric dried out, but the foam on the rollers had also disintegrated. Some careful dismantling, and a solution presented itself in the form of O-rings to replace the rollers. Those and a bit of mineral oil to soften the ink had the vintage Apple printing again as though it was the 80s once more.

Its a subject weve looked at before, as it turns out...

Why Are US Military Personnel Heading to Peru? "IndyWatch Feed War"

By Nick Corbishley naked capitalism May 26, 2023

The ostensible goal of the operation is to provide support and assistance to the Special Operations of the Joint Command of the Armed Forces and National Police of Peru, including in regions recently engulfed in violence.

Unbeknown, it seems, to most people in Peru and the US (considering the paucity of media coverage in both countries), US military personnel will soon be landing in Peru. The plenary session of Perus Congress last Thursday (May 18) authorised the entry of US troops onto Peruvian soil with the ostensible purpose of carrying out cooperation activities with Perus armed forces and national police. Passed with 70 votes in favour, 33 against and four abstentions, resolution 4766 stipulates that the troops are welcome to stay any time between June 1 and December 31, 2023.

The number of US soldiers involved has not been officially disclosed, at least as far as I can tell, though a recent statement by Mexicos President Andrs Manuel Lopz Obrador, who is currently person non grata in Peru, suggests it could be around 700. The cooperation and training activities will take place across a wide swathe of territory including Lima, Callao, Loreto, San Martn, Hunuco, Ucayali, Pasco, Junn, Huancavelica, Iquitos, Pucusana, Apurmac, Cusco and Ayacucho.

The last three regions, in the south of Peru, together with Arequipa and Puno, were the epicentre of huge political protests, strikes and road blocks from December to February after Perus elected President Pedro Castillo was toppled, imprisoned and replaced by his vice-president Dina Boluarte. The protesters demands included:

  • The release of Castillo
  • New elections
  • A national referendum on forming a Constitutional Assembly to replace Perus current constitution, which was imposed by former dictator Alberto Fujimori following his self-imposed coup of 1992

Brutal Crackdown on Protests

Needless to say, none of these demands have been met. Instead, Perus security forces, including 140,000 mobilised soldiers, unleashed a brutal crackdown that culminated in the deaths of approximately 70 people. A...

Why is the Solar Corona so HOT "IndyWatch Feed Tech"

Now that we understand just what is going on, and that it has nothing whatsoever to do with hydrogen bombs and that the actual surface of trhe Sun is comparatively cold to the millions of degrees seen in the corona, we can make a conjecture.

It is that we are getting NNP ( Neutral Neutron Pair ) decay taking place in the corona which releases heat as it must.  It is completely possible and even plausible that this is where it all happens and that something different is happening deep into the SUN.

that would certainly supply ample energy to keep the surface at the temperature we see while providing an expanding Solar wind all the way out to well past the Oort cloud while also accelerating dust as well.  Yet compared to the age of the sun, it is very much scant and projections of mass change just do not wash.  And if NNPs are been continously been produced in the solar core we may well be approaching steady state..

One central conjecture caused by cloud cosmology is that all large celestrial objects are collection shells built about an internal star like object continously producing new neutral particles.  It could well be that our Earth itself has an egg shell we do not understand and that we also have a halo out to the Van Allen belts that ewe also do not understand.

Like yourself, i have accepted quite another scenario.  Yet here we are with what i know is a real alternative.

and yes, short selling is inherantly fraud, but it is fraud that can only be properly pursued by brokerages now supported by unlimited Bank credit.  Obviously, you and I are not ever invited.  and this has been going on for centuries and the public never appreciates it all.

just banning it is not likely workable, but a new protocol needs to be thought about.

Squeezed by the Shorts: Time to Ban Short Selling?

Global Research, May 22, 2023

https://www.globalresearch.ca/squeezed-shorts-time-ban-short-selling/5819875

Short sellers have made a killing in the recent banking crisis, scalping $14.3 billion from bank stock owners just in March of this year. Short sellers borrow stock they dont own and immediately sell it, driving the price down. Then they buy it back at the lower price, return the stock, and pocket the difference. Bankers say the practice is threatening the stability of the banking system and are calling for a ban on short sales of bank stock. The SEC is expected to decline but is investigating whether the practice constitutes illegal market manipulation intended to deceive investors.

It is argued here that short selling is fraudulent by its very nature it is a fraud on the legitimate stock owners and should be banned across the board. But first a closer look at the issues and...

This was a conventional battle using masses of men, armor and most important artillary.  It was sustained over two thirds of a year and Ukraine lost and I suspect thgey lost a lot of men here as well.  The russians did as well but they where attacking.

It was the main event and certyainly pinned down Ukrainian reserves against any possibility of a spring offensive.  Russia can now shift the center of mass ahead of another battle.

Russian objective is clearly limited to ethnic Russian Eastern Ukraine which was been abused by Ukrainian nutcases.  The sooner we have a border commission the better ,and the sooner russia actually joins NATO the better as well.  The whole russian arms industry needs to be revamped and integrated with NATO to provide a solid southern frontier for a united Europa.

Microsoft Launches an AI Tool to Take the Pain Out of Building Websites "IndyWatch Feed Tech"

Microsoft launches an AI tool to take the pain out of building websites:

Microsoft wants to take the pain out of designing web pages. AI is its solution.

Today marks the launch of Copilot in Power Pages in preview for U.S. customers, an AI-powered assistant for Microsoft's low-code business website creation tool, Power Pages. Given prompts, Copilot can generate text, forms, chatbots and web page layouts as well as create and edit image and site design themes.

To create a form, for example, users can simply describe the kind of form that they need and Copilot will build it and auto-generate the necessary backend database tables. Those tables can then be edited, removed or added to using natural language within Copilot.

"As the maker, you describe what you need in natural language and use Copilot suggestions to design web pages, create content and build complex business data forms for your website," Sangya Singh, VP of Power Pages at Microsoft, told TechCrunch in an email interview. "You no longer need to start from a blank slate."

Generating a website with AI isn't exactly a novel idea not in this day and age, at least. Tools like Jasper can handle copy, images, layouts and more, while generators like Mixo can create basic splash pages given a short description.

But Singh paints Copilot in Power Pages as more versatile than the competing solutions out there, while stressing that it's not a tool that could or should be used to generate whole spam sites.

[...] Singh claims that Copilot in Power Pages, though, which is powered by OpenAI's GPT-3.5 model, has "guardrails" to protect against issues that might crop up.

[...] "The key thing to note is that Power Pages Copilot is not an 'automatic' AI-pilot generating websites, but an 'AI assistant' to a human website maker hence the name Copilot where the maker can ask for suggestions on how to build different components of a business data-centric site," she added. "Giving the makers 'total control' is a principle we have where the maker is always in control if they want to apply the Copilot suggestion or tweak it further or discard it."

Keir Starmers health plans will need to address my sweet tooth "IndyWatch Feed Politics.eu"

Keir Starmer, preparing for office, is setting out his stall on policy and last week addressed Labours plans for the Health Service which essentially means England as Health is devolved. But any policies by a UK government at Westminster will affect us here if only in future Health Service investments and policy direction. The current health service, which for us includes social care, seems insatiable when it comes to funding so throwing money at this problem alone is not going to solve anything yet the clarion call from all vested interest groups is more money. Financial investments, even significant ones, seldom result in improved outcomes for patients as new money is quickly absorbed by structural deficiencies in a system that has been deprived of funding over the life of the current UK government. Money is needed but so too is radical transformation.

Finances were tight when Labour conceded to the Tories but since the Cameron Coalition days there has been a year-on-year real terms reduction in health service investment. Over these years this has created many of the problems that we now face. Covid, and the way the service responded to the pandemic, was unhelpful but not the main cause of the problems. Yes, money and investment have a part to play but radical transformation much also happen.

Sir Keir has said nothing about the NHS and what needs to be done that has not been said before. It is clear what steps need to be taken to reach a new accommodation between the citizens of the UK and the governments who provide strategy and funding for its health services. Compton said it, Bengoa repeated it, yet some of the very politicians who supported the Bengoa recommendations in the NI Assembly were the very politicians recently blocking service transformation in South West Acute Hospital and Antrim Area Hospital. But lets not get side-stepped into local issues as can often happen in health matters and lets focus on Labours plan.

For Sir Keir to quote Nye Bevan might reassure the Red-Labour supporters that the NHS is in safe hands but he chooses to ignore and deny the significant societal and demographic changes that have come about since the late 1940s when the health of the population and the type of service required was very different to the public health challenges we face today. To commit to have a service free at the point of access may reassure voters but fails to recognize how the practice of medicine has advanced as has public demand and expectation.

Sir Keir is right when he cites disease prevention as a key element of improving general health and reducing dependence on the Health Service. Disease prevention is the most cost effective way to increase not only the years of life but the years of healthy life for individuals and improve the efficiency of the Health Service. We have increased...

Is the United States Poking the Bear or Is Ukraine Going Rogue or Is it Both? "IndyWatch Feed War"

Larry Johnson SONAR May 26, 2023

Yesterday three Western supplied drone boats attacked a Russian ship guarding the Turkstream pipeline. Russia claims all were destroyed but there is video that suggests one hit the Russian ship. This attack is the latest in a series of events over the last three weeks where Ukraine is hitting targets in Russia with U.S. and British supplied weapons. In addition to this maritime drone attack Ukraine has carried out the following:

  • A cross border incursion in the Belgorod region with U.S. supplied vehicles and weapons. The attack was repulsed with heavy losses on the Ukrainian side.
  • Sporadically launching artillery and himars attacks on Russian civilians towns along the border
  • A drone attack on the Kremlin.
  • The use of British Storm Shadow cruise missiles to hit targets in Russia.

None of these attacks are game changers in terms of the strategic picture, they are fueling a rising tide of anger in Russia that is likely to ratchet up pressure for a stronger military response. The maritime attack on the Russian ship guarding the Turkstream pipeline is especially puzzling because it is indirectly an attack on a member of NATO (i.e., Turkiye). Just what NATO needs, alienating the NATO member with the second largest army in NATO.

The media is discounting the possibility that was sanctioned by the U.S. or the U.K. and suggesting it was carried out by Ukraine without consulting its NATO partners. However, my new friend, Steve Bryen, has an excellent piece posted at the Asia Times on the Turkstream pipeline incident that explains why this was not a unilateral Ukrainian operation:

There are a number of disturbing facts about this operation.

The first is that the Ukrainians were preparing to attack the Turkstream pipeline and needed to knock out the Russian ship helping to guard it. Turkstream moves natural gas at an annual capacity of 31.5 billion cubic meters and consists of two 930-kilometer offshore lines and two separate onshore lines that are 142 kilometers (88.2 miles) and 70 kilometers long.

One of the customers for Russian gas from this pipeline is Hungary. It would deal a substantial blow to Hungary if Turkstream were destroyed, and that could lead to a government upheaval in that country. Hungary, under Viktor Orbn, is regarded by Washington as pro-Russian. . . .

The Ukrainians carried out this operation in the Bosporus, around 80 miles from the Turkish mainland. It is reasonable to say that this attack wasnt just on the Russians, but it was the first part of an attack on a NATO ally, Turkey and other gas consumers, especially Hungary also a NATO ally.

Ukraine Army Falling Apart; Shooting the Officers Who order them into no-win battle "IndyWatch Feed War"

Hal Turner The Hal Turner Radio Show May 26, 2023

The Ukrainian Army is literally coming apart at the seams. Soldiers are shooting their commanders rather than be ordered into un-survivable battles. Video below shows one dead Battalion Commander after being shot in the head by a Company Commander!

Tired of being ordered to basically commit suicide by their top officers, Ukrainian soldiers are now fragging their officers rather than go into suicidal battle against superior Russian forces.

Heres one such instance where a Battalion Commander lays dead on the ground after a Company Commander shot him in the head rather than obey an order to go into a hopeless battle, where five other Companies ALL got killed minutes earlier.

As this rebellion among Ukraine troops spreads, it wont be long before the Ukrainian Army is no more.

POISONED WATER: How Rachel Levine tried to block the nasty truth about fluoridations devastating effect on childhood IQs "IndyWatch Feed War"

Leo Hohmann leohohmann.com May 25, 2023

Click to enlargeCovid showed us how corrupt the medical establishment has become not only in America but worldwide. Doctors know where their bread is buttered and rarely speak out of school or provide advice based on their own independent research. They will support almost any government health narrative if thats what it takes to make sure the money continues to flow, even if it means violating their oath to do no harm.

Next in line for top honors in terms of corruption, after the biomedical-security complex, is the media.

People say the truth will always prevail, and I agree. But this is a lesson that governments never seem to learn, especially when they have a corrupt media willing to cover for their lies.

We see the government and media colluding to deceive the masses on vaccines (theyre safe and effective, safe and effective, safe and effective). We see them colluding on the phony climate change narrative, where to save the planet youve got to grow less food, exchange real meat for fake, eat bugs, curtail freedom of movement, digitize humanity and convert all power generation to the electric grid, which is already overtaxed. We see it with so-called gun violence blame the tool not the evil people who misuse the tool. And the list goes on.

But nowhere has the government-media collusion to deceive been going on longer than when it comes to the deliberate poisoning of Americas municipal drinking water. They poison it right at the source, then tell you that its good for you. It builds strong teeth!

The final report of an exhaustive six-year study of fluoride neurotoxicity was blocked from public release by Biden appointee Dr. Richard Rachel Levine at the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services in May 2022, according to the Fluoride Action Network.

John Kerry says farmers need to stop growing food in order to achieve net zero climate goals "IndyWatch Feed War"

Ethan Huff Natural News May25, 2023

Failed presidential candidate and political fossil John Kerry, a Democrat, is back in the news for ominous comments he recently made about how the only way for leftists to achieve their net zero climate goals is for farmers all around the world to stop growing food.

The illegitimate Joe Biden regimes Special Presidential Envoy for Climate, Kerry told an audience at the Department of Agricultures (USDA) AIM for Climate Summit the other day that we cant get to net zero, we wont get this job done, unless agriculture is front and center as part of the solution.

According to Kerry, he and other world leaders lives depend on farmers ceasing their operations. This will lower agriculture emissions, Kerry added, noting that he does not even call it climate change anymore its not change; its a crisis.

Mitigating methane is the fastest way to reduce warming in the short term, Kerry declared to the audience, referring to the flatulence produced by cattle as they munch on grasses or in the case of chemical agriculture, the gas these animals pass after eating genetically modified (GMO) corn and other industrial feed.

Food and agriculture can contribute to a low-methane future by improving farmer productivity and resilience, he further stated. We welcome agriculture ministers participating in the implementation of the Global Methane Pledge.

(Related: John Kerry should have been arrested and charged years ago for crimes against humanity, but he is still a free man due to leftist privilege.)

Unless a LOT more people stop eating, the planet will warm another half-degree by 2050, Kerry contends

The only people who should be allowed to eat meat are rich elitists like himself, was the overall message delivered by Kerry. Everyone else needs to stop eating, in essence, for the climate change plan to work.

Food systems themselves contribute a significant amount of emissions just in the way in which we do the things weve been doing, Kerry proclaimed.

With a growing population on the planet we just crossed the threshold of eight billion fellow citizens around the world emissions from the food system alone are projected to cause another half a degree of warming by mid-century.

Kerry called on world leaders from all around the world to massively scale back their citizens farming operations in order to keep the planet cooler and less warm as we move into the future.

June Pride Like Vaccines, the Purpose of Homosexuality is Depopulation "IndyWatch Feed War"

(Most of these young women will not have successful marriages and children)

HenryMakow.com May 26, 2023

In honor of June, Gay Pride month, I re-post the classic 1995 essay by Charles Socarides, a psychiatrist who treated hundreds of gays for arrested development over his 40-year-career and cured about a third.

Until 1975, homosexuality was recognized for what it is, a developmental disorder. The massive crusade to mainstream homosexuality is characteristic of Satanism, which pretends that sick is healthy and unnatural is natural. It is irrefutable proof society is satanically possessed.   Mankind has been colonized by a satanic cult, Freemasonry (Jewish Cabalism) which is a proxy for the Cabalist Jewish central banking cartel. Our political, economic and cultural leaders are traitors, factotum for the satanist banking cartel that controls society through credit.

The promotion of homosexuality is designed to depopulate and destabilize society by destroying the nuclear family. How can you Lefties be so stupid?

Corporations celebrate gay pride month. Click to enlarge

Arent you suspicious that every single corporation is promoting this developmental disorder? Homosexuality is another depopulation psy op like COVID which was nothing but the flu rebranded. Are you Leftists not just gullible conformists but also stupid?

We have compassion and affection for individual gays who often are very kind, and talented. Its not their fault that their mothers were overbearing or they were abused as youths. We feel no more animosity toward...

US vulnerable to foreign attacks with missile system in tatters: Government report "IndyWatch Feed War"

Press TV May 23, 2023

A US government agency has sounded the alarm about the dilapidated condition of its national missile systems, warning that the country is vulnerable to threats from foreign adversaries.

The Government Accountability Office (GOA) warned in a report published on Tuesday that the US Missile Defense Agency has repeatedly failed to upgrade its radar and missile interceptor systems, leaving America with less capability than planned and vulnerable to missile threats from foreign adversaries.

The US government agency expressed fears that China, Iran, and North Korea pose missile threats to the United States, despite the fact that Bejing and Tehran have never threatened to attack the country.

Meanwhile, supply-line issues and a developmental backlog were cited by the US agency as the main factors preventing the Pentagons top missile defense systems from receiving critical updates.

The US agency reported that in 2022 alone, the Missile Defense Agency (MDA) had failed to achieve its goals on all of its planned interceptors and radar upgrades.

MDA also didnt complete its planned flight, ground, or cyber tests for its systems, it added.

The Government Accountability Office reported that the MDA had been falling short of its goals for several years.

It said, 23 previously issued recommendations to the MDA had not yet been met, while testing, transparency, and cost reporting were all faltering.

The MDA only partially met its sensor delivery goals, and has delayed operational acceptance of two radars until later this year at the earliest, according to the report.

It noted that the operational delays sighted by GOA in MDA the agency responsible for safeguarding Americans against airstrikes had been going on for years and indicated that the repeated cancellation and postponement of the planned programs at the agency had been done intentionally.

The MDA conducted less than half of its planned fiscal year 2022 testing, including flight and ground tests that demonstrate whether or not the nations defense system can adequately fend off a potential missile barrage, GOA stated.

The MDA also intentionally reduced the scope of its cyber assessments and postponed other planned objectives for future years, setting Americas missile defense systems even further behind its military rivals in other countries, it added.

In the meantime, the Pentagon has warned its enemies are forging ahead with their missile programs with China achieving a twofold increase in the number of missiles in its arsenal capable of hitting the United States.

In related news, Russia announced that its military forces hit a US-built Patriot air defense sys...

Okowa Allegedly Compels LG Chairmen To Take N40bn Loans Barely Few Days To Hand Over "IndyWatch Feed Africa"

IFEANYI OKOWA LATEST

LAGOS MAY 27TH (URHOBOTODAY)-Barely a week to the end of his second term in office, the Delta State governor, Ifeanyi Okowa, has reportedly compelled the 25 local government council chairmen under the umbrella of the Association of Local Government of Nigeria, (ALGON), to take N40billion loans from a bank, SaharaReporters has learnt.
The governor said the loan would enable them to offset the backlog of debts owed retired primary schools teachers and local government workers in the state.
In the last four years, thousands of Delta State retirees drawn from across the 25 local government areas of the state had stormed the state government House, Asaba to protest against the state governor and disrupted official activities with placards over the nonpayment of their pension, gratuities and other entitlements running into several billions of naira.
Sometime in March 2022, Governor Okowa was smuggled out a programme by the operatives of the Department of Security Service, (DSS) and other security details attached to the governor following a protest by the state retirees who blocked the entrance of the event centre in Asaba.
The N40 billion loan, SaharaReporters reliably gathered, may be sourced from one of the new generation banks, Premium Trust Bank, Asaba, which the governor allegedly has interest, though he had denied such interest.
SaharaReporters reliably learnt that the loan which some local government council chairmen of the state are currently grumbling about over its timing, is being carried out in secrecy.
Some of the councils chairmen who are not comfortable with the loan and pleaded not to be mentioned for security reasons, confided in SaharaReporters that everything concerning the loan was been done in secret with an executive instructions to all the councillors in the 25 local government to given a legislative nod to the loan in each of their various council.
We were also mandated as council chairmen in our various Exco meetings to give the loan a nod. Some of us are not really happy and comfortable with the way and manner this N40 billion loan is came. Why now, thats the question some of us are asking, though its a good thing, the intention behind it is an avenue for some individuals to be richer in billions of...
