Peinliches Detail aus dem Leak auf Discord neulich:

In a meeting in mid-February with Deputy Prime Minister Yuliya Svrydenko, Zelensky suggested Ukraine blow up the Soviet-built Druzhba pipeline that provides oil to Hungary. Zelenskyy highlighted that Ukraine should just blow up the pipeline and destroy likely Hungarian [Prime Minister] Viktor Orbans industry, which is based heavily on Russian oil, the document says.
Ach. Ach was. War die Ukraine nicht die Guten?!

Vielleicht sollten wir doch nochmal darber reden, wer Nord Stream gesprengt hat. Ihr kennt das ja aus US-Krimiserien. Means, Motive and Opportunity.

Der Artikel ist auch sonst interessant:

When asked about the intelligence indicating he had weighed the use of long-range missiles to hit Russia, Zelensky said it is not something Ukraine is entertaining. No one in our country has given orders for offensives or strikes on Russian territory, he said.
Ach?

Goodbye to Roblox on Linux With Their New Anti-Cheat and Wine Blocking "IndyWatch Feed Tech"

Goodbye to Roblox on Linux with their new anti-cheat and Wine blocking:

You might have seen recently that I covered the upcoming updates for Roblox*, and now it's here blocking Wine with their new anti-cheat. This means you won't be able to play it on Linux any more, at all, unless you find some sort of special workaround.

Previously the roll-out of this update was being tested only with some users. Now though it's here for everyone giving a 64 bit client and introducing their Hyperion anti-cheat software which they are intentionally blocking Wine with. Naturally plenty of Roblox fans on Linux are upset by this, asking their team for updates on what their plans are.

In a fresh statement on their official developer forum one of their staff said this, in reply to users asking about updates in regards to Linux support:

Hi - thanks for the question. I definitely get where you're coming from, and as you point out, you deserve a clear, good-faith answer. Unfortunately that answer is essentially "no."

[...] Again, I'm personally sorry to have to say this. Way back in 2000 I had a few patches accepted into the kernel, and I led the port of Roblox game servers from Windows to Linux several years ago. From a technical and philosophical perspective, it would be a wonderful thing to do. But our first responsibility is to our overall community, and the opportunity cost of supporting a Linux client is far, far too high to justify.

They're clearly not going to be releasing a Native Linux build, which I think most people probably already knew, but at least previously they repeatedly said that Wine was a "priority" to support but now it doesn't sound as likely going by the above.

What is Roblox? Roblox is an app that allows users to play a wide variety of games, create games, and chat with others online. It combines gaming, social media, and social commerce. Billing itself as the ultimate virtual universe, Roblox experiences are places where users can socialize, build their own spaces, and even earn and spend virtual money.

Apparently, it is very "popular with kids".

Why Doom-Scroll When So Much is Possible? "IndyWatch Feed War"

Roger Bannister on May 6, 1954

The first professional one-mile race was held in London on July 26, 1855. Charles Westhall won with a time of 4 minutes and 28 seconds. Over the next 90 years, the time was slowly but surely whittled down to 4:01.4 by Swedens Gunder Hagg on July 17, 1945.

Nine years later, on May 6, 1954, Englands Roger Bannister did the impossible. He ran a 3:59.4 mile. The following month, the impossible was done again. John Landy of Australia ran a 3:58 mile on June 21, 1954.

Within a year, we had three runners breaking the four-minute barrier in the same race.

The current mile world record holder is Hicham El Guerrouj of Morocco with a time of 3:43.13. As of this writing, about 20 male high school runners have accomplished the impossible.

So, what changed since July 17, 1945?

Some may point to training or nutrition and perhaps they play a recent role. But remember, Bannister made history in 1954 and his record was smashed just 46 days later. So, yeah its more than training and nutrition.

Could it be that once we choose to envision the possible instead of fixating on the impossible, our power is released? If so, where can we effectively focus this power today?

On Korea, Joe Biden Is Choosing Every Bad Option "IndyWatch Feed War"

By Ted Galen Carpenter | The Libertarian Institute | May 15, 2023

Joe Biden has managed to embrace nearly all of the worst, most dangerous options with respect to U.S. policy on the Korean Peninsula. Washingtons policy toward North Korea is utterly sterile and ineffective. The glimpses of hope during Donald Trumps administration that the United States might adopt a fresh approach instead of clinging to its longstanding, unattainable demand that North Korea abandon its nuclear weapons program have vanished. Biden abandoned even Trumps modest policy deviations. Instead, his administration has resumed the insistence on Pyongyangs complete denuclearization, along with placing strict limits on the countrys ballistic missile capabilities. North Korea continues to test missiles with ever longer ranges as U.S. leaders fume impotently.

At the same time, the Biden administration shows no inclination to re-examine the risk-reward calculation with respect to Washingtons alliance with South Korea, even as Pyongyang is now acquiring the capability to strike the American homeland. Indeed, administration officials are moving in the opposite direction, emphasizing the U.S. defense commitment to its longstanding dependent and discouraging any hints that Seoul may wish to take greater responsibility for its own defenseespecially if such an initiative includes the acquisition of an independent nuclear deterrent. Instead, U.S. leaders are working to enlist South Korea as a pawn in a geostrategic chess match directed against China in exchange for a more robust U.S. commitment to defend Seoul against its North Korean adversary.

The continuing, if not intensifying, patron-client relationship between the United States and South Korea was underscored in the joint declaration that Biden and South Korean President Yoon Suk-yeol issued following their April 26, 2023, summit meeting; The ROK has full confidence in U.S. extended deterrence commitments and recognizes the importance, necessity, and...

New RA Group ransomware gang is the latest group using leaked Babuk source code "IndyWatch Feed Tech"

A previously unknown ransomware group known as RA Group is targeting companies in U.S. and South Korea with leaked Babuk source code.

Cisco Talos researchers recently discovered a new ransomware operation called RA Group that has been active since at least April 22, 2023. The group has already compromised three organizations in the U.S. and one in South Korea.

The researchers assess with high confidence that the group is using the leaked Babuk ransomware source code.

A sample of the ransomware analyzed by Talos is written in C++ and was compiled on April 23, 2023. The binary has the debug path C:\Users\attack\Desktop\Ransomware.Multi.Babuk.c\windows\x64\Release\e.pdb. The researchers noticed that the path contains the same mutex name as the Babuk ransomware, a circumstance that suggests the malware borrows Babuks leaked source code.

Compromised organizations operate in different business verticals, including manufacturing, wealth management, insurance providers, and pharmaceuticals.

Like other ransomware operations, the RA Group also uses a double extortion model and runs a date leak site.

This actor is expanding its operations at a fast pace. RA Group launched their data leak site on April 22, 2023, and on April 27, we observed the first batch of victims, three in total, followed by another one on April 28. We also observed the actor making cosmetic changes to their leak site after disclosing the victims details, confirming they are in the early stages of their operation. reads the report published by Cisco Talos.

The RA Group is also attempting to sell the stolen data through its leak site.

Once encrypted the victims files RA Group, the gang drops customized ransom notes (How To Restore Your Files.txt.), which include the victims name and a unique link to download the exfiltration proofs.

According to the ransom notes,...

US Pushes Indonesia to Ramp Up Military Cooperation, Jakarta Pledges Neutrality "IndyWatch Feed War"

Sputnik 15.05.2023

The US Armys top general was deployed to Indonesia in an effort to solidify the countrys position in the American orbit this week amid Washingtons ongoing efforts to encircle China militarily and constrain its growth.

On Friday, the Armys Chief of Staff, James McConville, described his meeting with Indonesian Defense Minister Prabowo Subianto as a relatively benign effort to bring peace to the Indo-Pacific region.

We have many friends in the region, and we work closely together, McConville said. We all share the same interests for the region: peace, security, stability.

Thats why we work together on maintaining a free and open Indo-Pacific for everyone, he insisted.

For his part, Subianto described peace and stability in the region as a common concern, but insisted Indonesia would maintain its neutrality, pledging to continue pursuing relationships with all worlds nations especially all the major powers.

McConville touched down in Jakarta on Thursday on the heels of a visit to the Philippines. That trip came shortly after last months massive US-Philippine war drills provoked anger among authorities in Beijing, who simulated an encirclement of their own against the renegade island of Taiwan in response.

But its unclear that Jakartas leaders are as willing to sign up for a battle with Beijing as their counterparts in Manila. Last November, Subianto promised to restore joint military exercises with China following a meeting with the nations defense minister.

In 2017, the US embassy in Jakarta released around 30,000 documents showing the US actively supported the Indonesian militarys killing of as many as 1 million suspected communist sympathizers in the mid-1960s despite concerns about the reasons behind the massacre, the Financial Times reported.
But the US maintains close relations with Indonesias leaders despite its questionable legacy there.

TV Review: Les Misrables (2018) and color-blind casting "IndyWatch Feed Nthamerica"

I recently watched a six-part 2018 BBC miniseries Les Misrables that is based on the famous novel by Victor Hugo that was published in 1862. I had read the novel a long time ago and I thought that the mini-series was very good and stayed pretty close to the original story.

For those not familiar with it, the story is set in the period 1815, just after Napoleon had been sent into exile and the monarchy restored, and the failed Paris Uprising of June 1832 that attempted to restore republican form of government. This is the backdrop to the tale of Jean Valjean, a man who served 19 years in prison doing hard labor because he stole a loaf of bread to feed his sisters starving children. When he finally gets his freedom, he leaves prison deeply angry and bitter. Even when a poor but kindly bishop welcomes him and gives him food and shelter for the night, he repays him by stealing the small amount of silverware in the house and escaping into the night. When he is quickly captured by the police and brought to the bishop, the bishop surprises him and the police by saying that he had given the silverware to Valjean and even gave him two silver candlesticks, the only things of value remaining in the house.

Valjean is baffled by this unexpected act of kindness and generosity but leaves still angry and unrepentant and shortly thereafter he encounters a little boy and takes from him a coin that the boy had dropped on the ground. After the boy calls him a thief and runs away, Valjean hears church bells toll in the distance that makes him realize the wrong that he has done and he tries to go after the boy to return the coin but the boy has disappeared. That event is fateful because the fact that he has stolen again, however small the amount, is enough to make him a wanted thief who would be sent to prison for life if captured.

Javert was a prison guard who oversaw Valjean when he was a convict and later became a police officer. He has rigid beliefs that people can be divided into good and evil and can never change their nature. He even keeps a model of a human skull on his desk with the parts marked out to show the various centers of the brain. This was based on the now-discredited early 19th century theory of phrenology, that the contours of the skull can predict personality traits. The fact that Valean is a convicted thief convinces him that he is irredeemably evil. When he learns that Valjean stole the coin from the boy, it confirms his belief and he develops an obsession with capturing Valjean and sending him to prison for life.

Valjean reforms himself with a new name in a new small town, setting up a business and employing all the people who need a job, bringing prosperity to the community that is so grateful to him that they make him...

Pope Francis peacebuilding on Ukraine may workthats not a good thing "IndyWatch Feed World"

As a Turkey follower (I studied the country in grad school and wrote on it for my dissertation and first book) Ive got thoughts on Turkeys elections. But as someone not interested in hot takes, Im going to wait until the election is over to provide some analysis.

Instead, I want to talk about Pope Francis peace talks between Russia and Ukraine. The Pope recently announced secret peace talks between Ukraine and Russia, although neither side seemed to be aware of this. His efforts have progressed, however, with Ukraine President Zelenskys recent visit to Italy.

I should be a fan of this. I think Russias invasion of Ukraine was, and continues to be, a war crime: it needs to stop. I study religion and international relations, and thus should welcome an example of religions power in the world. But Im concerned, not because I think hell fail but because I worry hell succeed.

The issues with the Popes peace talks

My concerns have to do with the nature of the Popes current mission, and a past mission he conducted.

He is attempting to stay neutral in the conflict in order to find a middle ground between the combatants. Francis has been hesitant to call out Russia as the aggressor in the conflict while suggesting Russia was provoked into attacking Ukraine. Hes met with Putin supporters such as Viktor Orban of Hungary.

I can understand what the Pope is trying to do. Putin will never trust someone who condemns his actions, andif the goal is peace rather than Russian surrenderthis neutrality is the best way to achieve it.

But as Ive argued before, peace at any cost isnt really what Ukraine needs. Such a peace deal would likely give Russia some control over Ukraine, which is not acceptable. Ukraine needs a just peace that includes justice for the victims of Russian aggression, not just the end of fighting.

Most commentators believe Pope Francis peace efforts will failI worry they will succeed.

The Popes earlier peacebuilding in Syria demonstrates this concern. As I discuss in my forthcoming...

Fewer migratory birds stopping at key Bangladesh wetland amid human disturbances "IndyWatch Feed Enviro"

One of Bangladeshs two Ramsar sites, wetlands of international importance, is slowly losing some of the waterbirds that seek respite at this key migratory pit stop, a new study says. Tanguar Haor, spanning 9,500 hectares (23,500 acres), sits in the floodplain of the Surma River and is home to more than 200 bird species, half of them migratory. And while birds continue to flock here in their hundreds of thousands on their annual migrations along the East AsianAustralasian Flyway, for many species the number of recorded individuals declined between 2008 and 2021, according to the study published in the journal Aviation Conservation & Ecology. The researchers behind the study carried out censuses of 69 waterbird species during this period, 41 of them migratory. Counts for species like Baers pochard (Aythya baeri), the common pochard (Aythya ferina) and the tufted duck (Aythya fuligula) declined the latter severely as did most egrets and herons, while other species either increased or fluctuated. Overall, for migratory birds, linear trend models of species count over time suggested the majority of species, 23 (59%), showed a declining trend, and 16 (41%) species showed an increasing trend, the study says. Study co-author A.B.M. Sarowar Alam, from the Bangladesh office of the IUCN, the global wildlife conservation authority, says the causes of the ongoing decline arent fully known yet. However, theyre likely connected to the deterioration of inland freshwater wetlands and the lack of appropriate nesting trees. Japan to open NATO liaison office in new provocation against China and Russia "IndyWatch Feed War"

By Ahmed Adel | May 15, 2023

Japanese Foreign Minister Yoshimasa Hayashi announced that his country is considering opening a NATO liaison office, demonstrating that Tokyo is deepening its ties with the US and becoming more hostile to China and Russia. Tokyos rapprochement with NATO would strengthen the anti-China/Russia alliance and advance the US plans to create a NATO-styled organisation in the Far East.

We are already in discussions, but no details (have been) finalised yet, Hayashi said on May 10.

He specifically referenced Russias special military operation in Ukraine as something with repercussions far beyond Europes borders that made Japan rethink regional security.

The reason why we are discussing about this is that since the aggression by Russia to Ukraine, the world (has) become more unstable, he claimed. Something happening in East Europe is not only confined to the issue in East Europe, and that affects directly the situation here in the Pacific. Thats why a cooperation between us in East Asia and NATO (is) becoming increasingly important.

However, the foreign minister failed to explain how events in Ukraine affect those in East Asia. Rather, Hayashi is using this as a weak justification for why Japan is militarising, which directly relates to Tokyos claims against sovereign seas and territories belonging to China and Russia.

The opening of a NATO office in Japan does not mean that the country will join the Alliance, but it does open a path for Japan to become a member of an expanded AUKUS (Australia-United Kingdom-United States). This, in turn, will require Tokyo to strengthen its contacts with NATO.

It is recalled that NATO Secretary General, Jens Stoltenberg, went to Japan and South Korea in January 2023 to lay the groundwork for strengthened ties. This is one of the reasons why Tokyo is already involved in conflicts that are not directly related to the region, despite some of the mental gymnastics it procures to create a justification.

The Japanese government is also providing $5.5 billion in aid to Ukraine, which can be seen as a step forward for the country to join AUKUS and confirms Tokyos intentions to strengthen its relationship with NATO. However, NATO will not officially expand to include Japan because members of the Alliance, such as Hungary, do not always align their position for the sake of serving US interests.

At the same time, France, at least in rhetoric, is seeking a degree of autonomy from the US. French President Emmanuel Macron said on April 9 that Europe needs to limit its dependence on the US.

In this way, the expansion of NATO to Asia is not likely since this initiative could lead to a further weakening of unity within the military alliance. The Americans are aware of this, and for this reason, they are working on a separate Eastern bloc to strength...

Startup Vast plans first commercial space station for launch in 2025 "IndyWatch Feed Tech"

Space startup Vast has announced that it intends to launch what it calls the worlds first commercial space station, Haven-1, sometime after August 2025 atop a SpaceX Falcon 9 rocket as the first element of a 100-m (330 ft) rotating station.

With its increasing emphasis on lunar and deep-space missions, NASA has decided to leave low-Earth orbit to private companies when it comes to human spaceflight. The idea is that when the International Space Station (ISS) is retired in 2030, the space agency will buy time on some of the commercial stations currently on the drawing board.

A new contender in this is Vast, which says it is developing a self-contained habitat module with a large viewing port that can fit in the payload section of a Falcon 9. Its capable of docking with a SpaceX Dragon and can accommodate up to four people aboard for up to 30 days. Also planned is a much larger module that can fit inside a SpaceX Starship.

Syrian President Bashar al-Assad has received an official invitation from the president of the UAE, Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, to attend the UN Climate Conference (Cop28) in Dubai, according to the Syrian official news agency (SANA).

Assad on Sunday received Abdul-Hakeem Ebraheem al-Nuaimi, the UAE's charge daffaires in Damascus, who handed him an official invitation to attend the conference, due to be held in Dubai from 30 November to 12 December, Sana reported on Monday.

The invitation comes following a decision by Arab League foreign ministers earlier this month to readmit Syria after more than a decade of suspension, consolidating a regional push to normalise ties with Assad.

Arab League Secretary-General Ahmed Aboul Gheit said that Assad could attend an Arab League summit scheduled to be held in Saudi Arabia later this month "if he wishes to".

The Syrian government became an international pariah when it violently cracked down on protests in 2011, sparking a civil war that continues today. At least half a million lives are estimated to have been lost in the conflict, and half of Syria's population has been displaced.

The World Economic Forum and United Nations are so concerned that the goals of Agenda 2030 Sustainable Development and the Great Reset (aka technocracy under a one-world beast system) are in jeopardy of not being fulfilled by the appointed date, that they have called for a summit in September to discuss how they can kickstart their stalled totalitarian agenda. Copyright Alliance Backs RIAA in Key YouTube Ripper Lawsuit "IndyWatch Feed Tech"

yout logoMost artists and music labels share their music with the public on YouTube, free of charge.

The popular video platform has become an important promotional channel that brings in billions of dollars of advertising revenue every year.

The success story has a downside, however. Millions of people use so-called stream-ripping websites to download music tracks from YouTube, without permission. YouTubes terms and service prohibit this activity but there are hundreds of online tools through which people can easily rip and download content from the site.

Music companies, often represented by the RIAA, are actively cracking down on what they see as major piracy threat. Some operators of these stream-ripping tools disagree, pointing at the variety of legal use cases instead.

Yout vs. RIAA

At the end of 2020, the operator of one of the largest stream-rippers took matters into his own hands. Instead of hiding in the shadows like some of his competitors, Yout.com owner Johnathan Nader sued the RIAA, asking a federal court in Connecticut to declare his service non-infringing.

Last fall, the district court decided to dismiss the matter, handing a win to the RIAA. Judge Stefan Underhill ultimately concluded that Yout had failed to show that it doesnt circumvent YouTubes technological protection measures. This also rendered the associated defamation and business disparagement claims moot.

Yout did not give up on the case. Nader opted to appeal the verdict as he believes that YouTube rippers dont violate the DMCA. After the RIAAs request for legal fees was denied, Youts attorneys filed their opening brief at the Court of Appeals for the Second Circuit in February.

Key Questions

This case essentially revolves around two questions, to which both parties have completely different answers. These questions will ultimately determine whether Yout and similar stream-ripping services operate legally.

Does YouTube employ a technological measure that effectively controls access to copyrighted works?

If the answer is yes, does the Yout service circumvent these controls?

In its opening brief, Yout...

Everyone hates Elsevier "IndyWatch Feed Nthamerica"

Everyone. For years. As a grad student I knew what a parasite Elsevier was. Librarians hate Elsevier. You should hate Elsevier, if you dont already. Its a company with their boot on the neck of scientific information, and theyre one of the reasons you cant easily get past the paywalls limiting access to information you already paid for.

Some editors are taking a stand and walking out on Elsevier.

More than 40 leading scientists have resigned en masse from the editorial board of a top science journal in protest at what they describe as the greed of publishing giant Elsevier.

The entire academic board of the journal Neuroimage, including professors from Oxford University, Kings College London and Cardiff University resigned after Elsevier refused to reduce publication charges.

In case youre wondering why

Elsevier, a Dutch company that claims to publish 18% of the worlds scientific papers, reported a 10% increase in its revenue to 2.9bn last year. But its the profit margins, nearing 40%, according to its 2019 accounts, which anger academics most. The big scientific publishers keep costs low because academics write up their research typically funded by charities and the public purse for free. They peer review each others work to verify it is worth publishing for free, and academic editors collate it for free or for a small stipend. Academics are then often charged thousands of pounds to have their work published in open-access journals, or universities will pay very high subscription charges.

Thats right. Somehow we all work for Elsevier. We reinforce that because we voluntarily make our volunteer work in reviewing papers for the publishing companies part of our praiseworthy work listed in our tenure and promotion reviews.

We have to laugh at our situation.

IBM Has Killed OpenSource.com, Rejecting the Open Source Way "IndyWatch Feed Tech"

Summary: IBM seems to have shut down OpenSource.com (its online but inactive; nobody works on it anymore). The Linux Foundation did the same to Linux.com in 2019 and then trashed it (because it doesnt care about Linux, except as a brand to milk).

THIS does not shock us, but it certainly saddens us. IBM doesnt seem to mind the fact that Red Hat revenue is growing, according to IBM. Red Hat is suffering layoffs and too little information is provided about what or who is impacted.

It has been sad to see this as weve noted both the layoffs and the fate of opensource.com. Now it is becoming increasingly confirmed that IBM does to Open Source what it did to CentOS a couple of years ago.

Wikipedia says that in December last year IBM had 288,300 employees. To explain our allegation quite succinctly, bear in mind opensource.com (where Ben Cotton played a prominent role) has not been active for quite some time, which is extremely unusual. The timing gave a clue because of the announcement of layoffs. Days ago Ben Cotton wrote a blog post saying he was among those who had been deemed redundant (thats absurd as hes a very essential worker).

No activity since April 23, i.e. the layoffs. My wife has been reading opensource.com every day for nearly a decade and Cotton is one of the first people who came to her mind in relation to this site because he used to be very active there (a lot less in recent years). She says she loved his articles, so its a tragic loss for IBM. Could they find nothing else at their oversized company to cut? Wikipedia says that in December last year IBM had 288,300 employees. So why give Ben Cotton the pink slip? He too is baffled by this.

Yesterday Phoronix also mentions Ben Cotton being laid off (50 or more comments there, but wed rather not link to Phoronix).

Backgrounder: Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) "IndyWatch Feed War"

Established in 2001, the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) has evolved into a significant regional organization in Eurasia, attracting increasing attention from both member states and observers worldwide. This backgrounder seeks to offer an in-depth understanding of the SCOs history, its strategic motives, and the trends that have emerged over time, while also examining its role and relevance in contemporary geopolitics.

Brief History of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization

The SCO was founded by China, Russia, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan, and Uzbekistan in June 2001. The organization initially emerged from the Shanghai Five, which was formed in 1996 with the aim of demilitarizing the common borders of its members following the disintegration of the Soviet Union. Over time, the organization has grown, incorporating India, Pakistan, and Iran as full members, in addition to multiple observer and dialogue partners like Afghanistan, Belarus, and Mongolia, among others.

A key driving force of the SCOs growth has been in response to the enlargement of Western institutions like NATO and the EU. The increasing great power competition between the West and countries like China and Russia has driven these nations to establish and enlarge regional platforms like the SCO without requiring a common doctrine that impedes sovereignty.

https://arstechnica.com/science/2023/05/pharma-company-behind-shkrelis-infamous-4000-price-hike-files-for-bankruptcy/

The pharmaceutical company behind Martin Shkreli's infamous 4,000 percent price hikenow known as Vyera Pharmaceuticalsfiled for bankruptcy this week and plans to sell its assets to pay off millions in debts.

In court documents filed Wednesday, Vyera's chief restructuring officer, Lawrence Perkins, largely blamed Shkreli for dooming the company and its affiliates.
[...]
Shkreli founded Vyera in 2014 under the name Turing Pharmaceuticals. His focus was to acquire sole-source drugs that treat life-threatening conditions in small populations of patientsand then dramatically jack up the price. In August 2015, he did just that, buying the rights to the decades-old anti-parasitic drug Daraprim for $55 million and abruptly raising the price from $17.60 per tablet to $750, a more than 4,000 percent increase.
[...]
Shkreli's influence wasn't shaken until January 2020, when the Federal Trade Commission and several state attorneys general sued Shkreli and the companythen called Vyerafor allegedly violating antitrust laws. Soon after, Vyera appointed a new board and management to purge ties to Shkreli. Vyera later settled the FTC's lawsuit, while Shkreli insisted on going to trial, where he lost, was banned from the pharmaceutical industry for life, and ordered to pay roughly $65 million in disgorgement. He is appealing the ruling.

Meanwhile, Vyera never reversed Shkreli's price hike.

Syria's President Bashar al-Assad receives an invitation through Saudi Ambassador to Jordan Naif bin Bandar Al-Sudairi to attend the Arab League summit, in Damascus 10 May (Reuters)

After an 11-year hiatus, Syria is finally back in the regional fold as foreign ministers from countries in the Arab League adopted a decision to readmit the war-torn country to the bloc.

Normalisation efforts propelled by the UAE and Saudi Arabia have sped up dramatically in recent months, with a flurry of diplomatic activity.

On Monday, Syrian officials participated in their first Arab League event in a decade, preparing for a summit in Saudi Arabias Jeddah.

"I... take this opportunity to welcome the Syrian Arab Republic to the League of Arab States," Saudi Finance Minister Mohammed al-Jadaan said at the meeting.

The reinstatement signals a full circle, considering that a mere decade ago Syrian opposition leader Moaz al-Khatib addressed the world from Syrias suspended seat at the Arab League, calling for western support in the fight against the then-wobbling government of President Bashar al-Assad.

The developments have been very satisfying for the government in Damascus, which is heavily sanctioned and presides over a divided and impoverished country. A Syrian official familiar with normalisation talks said t...

I can hear you thinking, hold on a minute do we not need MORE nurses? Why yes indeed you would be right. We have almost 3,000 vacant nursing posts in the health service in Northern Ireland.

If the health service was a patient, the prognosis would not be good. Staff are underpaid, demoralised and burnt out and things are only getting worse. As the workload increases more nurses will retire or move to agency work. The current bill for nursing agency staff is already 140m a year.

I am not a health economist (but I play one on TV) but we do seem to make all this really complicated. Can we not go back to the old days were we trained nurses for free, and gave them a decent salary and working conditions? This free market agency bollocks is just another example of privatisation being a disaster for workers and patients.

On Friday a neighbour of mine fell in her garden and broke her hip, it took 4 hours for the ambulance to arrive. When it did they needed a different ambulance and had to wait a further 2 hours. All the while she is lying in her garden rolling around in agony. She only lives about 2 miles from the Royal but everything it is a complete sh*tshow at the moment.

Dont drink, smoke, drive, climb a ladder, go swimming, running, dont look at anyone sideways, dont ride anyone, avoid people at all costs in fact just dont leave the house at all. But then again dont sit too much or you will get deep vein thrombosis.

I will leave you with the sage words of Sergeant Phil Esterhaus Lets be careful out there!.

Former Ubiquiti employee gets 6 years in jail for stealing confidential data and extorting company "IndyWatch Feed Tech"

A former Ubiquiti employee has been sentenced to six years in jail for the theft of confidential data and extorting company for ransom.

NICKOLAS SHARP, a former Ubiquiti employee was sentenced today to six years in prison.

In December 2020, SHARP stole gigabytes of data from the company, then he posed as an anonymous hacker that was offering support to the company to recover the stolen files and identify the alleged flaw exploited in the alleged security incident

In December 2020, SHARP secretly stole gigabytes of Company-1s data.  While purportedly working to remediate the security breach he created, SHARP extorted the company, as an anonymous hacker, for nearly $2 million for the return of the files and the identification of a remaining purported vulnerability. reads the press release published by DoJ. SHARP subsequently re-victimized his employer by causing the publication of misleading news articles as a purported anonymous whistleblower about the companys handling of the breach that he perpetrated, which were followed by the loss of over $4 billion in Company-1s market capitalization.

In January 2021, SHARP was working on a team remediating the security incident, when he sent a ransom note to the company. He was posing as a threat actor who claimed to have obtained unauthorized access to Ubiquitis networks.  The man demanded the payment of a 50 Bitcoin ransom (approximately $1.9 million based on the prevailing exchange rate at the time) for the return of the stolen data and the identification of a purported vulnerability.  The company refused to pay and the man published a portion of the stolen files on a publicly accessible online platform.

SHARP also acted to make its activity as malicious operations conducted by other coworkers.

SHARP (37) was arrested in December 2021, in March he pleaded guilty to posing as an anonymous hacker and a whistleblower to extort almost $2 million worth of cryptocurrency while working at Ubiquiti.

On March 24, 2021, FBI agents executed a search warrant at SHARPs residence in Portland, Oregon, and seized certain electronic devices, including the laptop used by the employee to steal the companys data.

It has been estimated that the publication of stolen data caused the drop of the companys stock price pf approximately 20%, betwe...

When I used to debate creationists "IndyWatch Feed Nthamerica"

I was reminded on Mastodon that I used to live in Eugene, and shared the city with a particular creationist that I debated, once. Then I was reminded again how old Im getting because that debate happened in 2008, fifteen goddamned years ago. Bleh. It was a boring debate and I wasted my youth on it.

Anyway, heres what I wrote about the debate with Geoff Simmons, way back in, I remind you, 2008. Some of you may remember that because youre getting as old as I am.

It was a radio debate on KKMS, the regional Christian talk radio station, back when theyd occasionally bring me on to humiliate local Christians (they learned their lesson, eventually). I grabbed the recording before the station deleted the archive, and posted it on YouTube so you can enjoy it now.

Jesus, but he was stupid and dishonest. I was wise to finally give up that ugly habit.

Perhaps it is due to their familiarity with technology that causes them to overlook

Building Herd Immunity to Truth: More on RFK Jr.s Anti-Vax Crusade "IndyWatch Feed Nthamerica"

My last two columns, addressing the presidential bid of Bobby Kennedy Jr. in light of his vaccine-related views and activism, are still generating a lot of heat.

Previously, I expressed respect for his outspoken positions on the military-intelligence complex, extremely rare among presidential candidates of any stripe. But I also stated that his leading role in the anti-vaccine movement, for me, disqualifies him as someone Id consider voting for.

I heard from all kinds of people, including his son, asking me to take a closer look at what exactly he is saying.

And so I have. Below are my first observations based on a review of his writings and statements. Im grateful for help in this from a senior editor at WhoWhatWhy, Milicent Cranor, who understands medical science better than I.

***

First off, let me restate that all powerful institutions, including the medical and pharmaceutical establishments, require continuous scrutiny and deserve a great deal of criticism.

However, despite a general consensus that big pharma often exhibits odious behavior in its pursuit of profits, I also believe that if only for their own sake they strive to create superior products, including the best vaccines possible.

One can be very critical of pharmas policies and priorities without denying its benefits, especially when they are life-saving.

That industry, like others, makes its share of errors, but I dont think we should be discussing or debating in public its products without getting feedback from a broad array of trustworthy experts.

By trustworthy I mean as unbiased as is humanly possible. Journalists typically dont just speak with activists and advocates they seek out impartial people with impeccable credentials and track records who dont go out of their way to solicit media coverage or to incite the public.

That excludes Bobby Kennedy and the few previously unknown figures now passing for a particular constituency as the experts to trust on vaccines and on COVID-19.

Of course, we must always be interested in hearing what outliers and apostates have to say but theres a heavy burden on anyone who says the sky is falling to make their case meticulously, with facts, not conjecture.

Its late April 1948, in Haifa, northern Palestine.

After more than 25 years, British officers are leaving their "mandate" over the territory and have set a withdrawal date: 15 May.

The exit is not going smoothly. Ethnic cleansing and violent atrocities are taking place across areas Britain is about to vacate.

Zionist armed groups, allowed to flourish in Palestine by the British over three decades and subsequently trained and armed by the colonial power, are sweeping across Palestinian towns and villages, forcibly displacing residents from house to house.

Palestinians put up some resistance, helped by nominal forces from neighbouring countries, but are vastly outnumbered and under-equipped. Britain states that it is remaining neutral.

Mark Your Calendars, NASA is Holding a Public Meeting on UFOs "IndyWatch Feed Tech"

Were sorry, the politically correct term these days is unidentified anomalous phenomena (UAP), as its less likely to excite those with a predilection for tinfoil hats. But whether you call them flying objects or anomalous phenomena, its that unidentified part that has us interested.

Which is why well be tuned into NASA TV at 10:30 a.m. EDT on May 31 thats when the agency has announced theyll be broadcasting a meeting of an independent study team tasked with categorizing and evaluating UAP data. The public can even submit their own questions, the most popular of which will be passed on to the team.

Before you get too excited, the meeting is about how NASA can evaluate and study UAP by using data, technology, and the tools of science, and the press release explains that they wont be reviewing or assessing any unidentifiable observations. So if youre hoping for the US governments tacit acknowledgment that were not alone in the universe, youll probably be disappointed. That said, they wouldnt have to assemble a team to study these reports...

More than just a flag "IndyWatch Feed Africa"

South Africas apartheid flag has been declared hate speech by a top court. But while courts are important and their judgments matter, racism is a long and internationally entrenched social phenomenon that cannot be undone via judicial processes.

The flag of apartheid South Africa, which has become a wider symbol for white racism and a common feature in the farm murders protests led by Afriforum (the right-wing, Afrikaans civil rights organization), was declared hate speech by the Supreme Court of Appeal (SCA), in April.

The appeal was brought by Afriforum against the ruling of the Equality Court that the gratuitous display of the old flag was in contravention of the provisions of the Promotion of Equality and Prevention of Unfair Discrimination Act, also known as the Equality Act. This ruling was made after the Nelson Mandela Foundation lodged a complaint with the Equality Court that the public display of apartheid flags during a protest organized by Afriforum in October 2017 contravened the Equality Act.

This is a major victory not only for the Foundation but also for every South African who wishes to see a line drawn against public displays of racism. However, the victory could have been sweeter had the SCA endorsed in its entirety the ruling of the Equality Court.

The SCAs judgment comes at a time when public discourse is polarized mainly by popular figures such as Vusi Thembekwayo and others such as Jonathan Jansen who want us to believe half-baked truths that apartheid was better than the current order. In dismissing the appeal by Afriforum, the SCA was unambiguous in saying that indeed the message displayed by the apartheid flag is a longing for the days of apartheid and restoration of white minority rule. Elsewhere in the judgment, the court went further to say:

the message being sent, intentionally, is that life in South Africa was better under apartheid and black people are to be downtrodden, despised, and denied their humanity, solely on account of being their race. There is no escaping it: the message legitimizes white supremacy....

Tunisia's opposition movement, Ennahda, said that "an unknown party" has used the phone number of its imprisoned leader, Rached Ghannouchi, to open a social media account.

Ghannouchi was arrested on 17 April and investigated by an anti-terrorism unit after being taken to a national security forces base in El-Aouina last month.

Despite being incarcerated, Ghannouchi's phone number appears to have been used to open an account on Telegram, according to his family.

The Ennahda party said in a statement that two SIM cards belonging to Ghannouchi were "operated by an unknown party".

His daughter, Yusra Ghannouchi, tweeted on Sunday that she had received a notification that her father "'has joined telegram' while he has been in prison for almost one month".

Last Friday, Winnipeg, Manitoba, released its revised plan to not just reconstruct but also massively expand Route 90 (Kenaston) from Taylor to Ness, a mere six weeks after approving the budget to do so.

I have to say, this design is a hot mess. The project aims to do a lot of different things, most notably widening the road from four lanes to at least six lanes (and as many as eight or nine lanes at some intersections), while adding a third span to the St. James Bridge. I could write a whole piece about just the other stuff, but given that the mayor has indicated that widening is a non-negotiable part of this project, stressing the fact that adding more lanes must remain part of the project, thats the part I want to talk about today.

A few weeks ago, a friend of mine sent me a link to someones presentation at city hall. That someone was Ken Klassen. I had already met him once before and the guy knows his stuff, but his presentation, and its accompanying slide deck, was something else. In a single presentation, Ken managed to show that every reason for expanding Kenaston being touted by the city was, to put it nicely, a strategic misrepresentation. And he did it using the...

NDDC: Warri Court Sacks Onochies 18 Aides For Being Illegally Appointed "IndyWatch Feed Africa"

LAURETTA ONOCHIE 2

LAGOS MAY 15TH (URHOBOTODAY)-The Federal High Court in Warri, Delta State, has sacked 18 aides appointed by the Chairperson of the Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC), Ms. Lauretta Onochie.

It held that she acted outside her powers in appointing them.

The court barred her from interfering with the functions of the commissions Managing Director, Dr. Samuel Ogbuku.

The declaration was made in a suit by Dr. Mike Oberabor, for himself and on behalf of the Oberabor Oreme-Egbede families of the Olomoro community of Isoko South Local Government, Delta State.

The NDDC, Onochie and Ogbuku are the first, second and third defendants.

The plaintiff sought an interpretation of the NDDC Act 2000 following some actions by Onochie believed to be against the Act

A copy of the judgment, signed by the Court Registrar, Anigboro Enonuya, showed it was delivered by Justice Okon Abang.

Justice Abang said having considered the provisions of the NDDC Establishment Act 2000 and the circular issued by the office of the Accountant-General of the Federation dated January 16, Onochie is to oversee and preside over meetings of the board on a part-time basis.

The judge held that the managing director as the chief executive and accounting officer of the NDDC is saddled with the responsibility of the day-to-day running and management of the agency.

He held that Onochies unilateral decision to appoint 18 aides in her office and the demand for an executive office in the commission are in contravention of relevant provisions of the NDDC Act and the circulars released by the Federal Government on the subject matter of the plaintiffs claims.

Justice Abang held: The third defendant as Managing Director of the NDDC is the person statutorily empowered by the NDDC Act to perform and wield executive functions, powers and day-to-day running and management of the commission to the exclusion of other members of the board of the NDDC, including the second defendant (the chairman).

All actions of the second defendant, including but not limited to the appointment of her personal aides carried out in the exercise of executive functions and powers in the NDDC since her assumption of duty on January 4, 2023, are ultra vires her powers and therefore null and vo...

Can the U.S. Adjust Sensibly to a Multipolar World? "IndyWatch Feed War"

Human Wrongs Watch

By Medea Benjamin and Nicolas J. S. Davies TRANSCEND Media Service*

In his 1987 book The Rise and Fall of the Great Powers, historian Paul Kennedy reassured Americans that the decline the United States was facing after a century of international dominance was relative and not absolute, and is therefore perfectly natural; and that the only serious threat to the real interests of the United States can come from a failure to adjust sensibly to the newer world order.

Drawing by Jerzy Wasiukiewicz

Since Kennedy wrote those words, we have seen the end of the Cold War, the peaceful emergence of China as a leading world power, and the rise of a formidable Global South.

But the United States has indeed failed to adjust sensibly to the newer world order, using military force and coercion in flagrant violation of the UN Charter in a failed quest for longer lasting global hegemony.

Kennedy observed that military power follows economic power. Rising economic powers develop military power to consolidate and protect their expanding economic interests.

But once a great powers economic prowess is waning, the use of military force to try to prolong its day in the sun leads only to unwinnable conflicts, as European colonial powers quickly learned after the Second World War, and as Americans are learning today....

Five Stories of Lives Upended After Dealing With the We Buy Ugly Houses Company "IndyWatch Feed Nthamerica"

ProPublica is a nonprofit newsroom that investigates abuses of power. Sign up to receive our biggest stories as soon as theyre published.

HomeVestors of America, the company behind the We Buy Ugly Houses ads, says its in the business of helping people.

Sometimes, the quick cash its franchises provide in exchange for a property at vastly below market value does help the owner.

But a ProPublica investigation found the types of houses targeted by HomeVestors franchises often belong to people in vulnerable situations who sign away what for most Americans is their largest asset. To make matters worse, aggressive legal tactics employed by HomeVestors franchises can trap homeowners in a deal or cost them thousands of dollars to settle.

In a statement, a HomeVestors spokesperson said the purchases covered by ProPublicas reporting represent a small fraction of the more than 71,400 homes bought by its franchises since 2016. "We do not discriminate or target our advertising to any specific demographic groups based on age, race, or socio-economic status, the company said. It has removed several franchises from its system and, in light of our reporting, is investigating the cases to determine appropriate action.

Over the last year, ProPublica interviewed dozens of people who have sold to a HomeVestors franchise. Some appeared satisfied with the experience, opting for convenience or speed over getting full market value for their house. Others, though, came to regret calling the number on a HomeVestors ad.

Here are five of their stories.

Okowa, Obaseki, Oborevwori, Others Honour Late Ohworode Of Olomu "IndyWatch Feed Africa"

HONOUR

LAGOS MAY 15TH (URHOBOTODAY)-An array of dignitaries, including Governors Ifeanyi Okowa and Godwin Obaseki, represented by his wife, Betsy, and Delta governor-elect, Sheriff Oborevwori, on Friday, showed up at the interdenominational service of the funeral rites of the Ohworode of Olomu kingdom, HRM Richard Layeguen Ogbon, Ogoni-Oghoro I.

The revered monarch passed on February 19, 2023, a month after celebrating his 106th birthday, after a brief old age-related illness.

Former president of the Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN), Pastor Ayo Oritsejafor; Archbishop, Bendel Province/Bishop Anglican Diocese of Ughelli, Most Revd Cyril Odutemu and a host of other clerics were also at the event.

The colourful funeral was held at the Ohworode palace at Ogoni-Olomu in Ughelli South Local Government Area of the state.

Addressing the congregation, Governor Okowa said having lived a fulfilled life, the departed king should not be mourned over.

According to him, there are several lessons to be learnt from the life of the oldest monarch unrecognised by the World Guinness Book of Records.

Okowa described the late centenarian as a father and man of wisdom and a special breed from God, at 101 to 105 years, he was still strong to attend our state functions. It can only be by the blessings of God.

Archbishop of the Anglican Diocese of Ughelli, Odutemu, in his message, tasked the gathering to be upright and live for God.

He reminded the congregation that at the end of their lives, they would give accounts of how they had lived on earth.

Everything that has a beginning has an end. A time will come that we will give an account of our stewardship, the Archbishop warned.

He emphasized that there is a time for everything, saying: use the time in your hands to do something.

Elections in Turkey and Thailand Show the Return to Democracy Is Hard "IndyWatch Feed Nthamerica"

Geographically, Turkey and Thailand are thousands of miles apart. In the Democracy Matrix, a tool that measures the quality of a countrys democracy, the two are almost neighbors. Among 176 countries, Thailand ranked 135th and Turkey 137th and each was listed as a moderate autocracy. On Sunday, voters in both countries went to the polls in hopes of restoring their countries to healthier democracies.

It will likely be an uphill climb because, once you lose democracy to an authoritarian regime even a moderate one the road back is difficult.

In Thailand, which has been led by a former general following a coup in 2014, two opposition parties were the decisive winners of the countrys parliamentary election. With 99 percent of votes counted, it is clear that, together, they will have a comfortable majority in the House of Representatives. Of the 500 seats, the Move Forward party is slated to hold 151 seats and the Pheu Thai party 141 seats.

By comparison, the two parties associated with the current military government won a combined 76 seats and ended up in fourth and fifth place.

However, while the result shows that Thais, especially young voters, overwhelmingly want change, it may be hard to come by.

Winning elections is not the hard part in Thailand, tweeted Christopher Ankersen, a professor at NYUs Center for Global Affairs. Taking office and staying in office that is the hard part.

Turkey elections: Erdogan in a strong position ahead of presidential runoff

Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan speaks at the AKP headquarters in Ankara, on 15 May (Reuters)

Preliminary results for Turkeys parliamentary and presidential elections indicate there will be a runoff for the presidency on 28 May.

Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan received 49.40 percent of the votes, just short of an outright victory with 99 percent of the votes counted. His main competitor, Kemal Kilicdaroglu of the centre-left Republican Peoples Party (CHP), could only get 44.96 percent.

But the real surprise was the breakaway Turkish ultranationalist contender Sinan Ogan, who got 5.2 percent of the vote.

What happens now?

One thing is certain: senior Turkish officials from Erdogans ruling Justice and Development Party (AKP) werent surprised by the results.

Despite multiple public polls indicating that Kilicdaroglu was leading and he had a slim chance of winning in the first round, the...

This European Satellite Giant is Coming for Starlink "IndyWatch Feed Tech"

To compete with American rivals, Eutelsat's Eva Berneke first has to navigate Russia's war in Ukraine, Brexit politics, and jamming attacks by Iran:

Eva Berneke describes her first year at the helm of the world's third-largest satellite company as a "whirlwind." That's an understatement. Since she took over the top job at Eutelsat in January 2022, the Danish CEO has become a direct competitor to Elon Musk, been accused by the Ukrainian government of aiding Russian propaganda, and found herself in the thick of bitter Brexit politicsand that's before you even mention the Iranian sabotage attempt.

[...] Undaunted, Berneke responded by initiating her own shake-up. In July, the company announced plans to merge with struggling British satellite provider OneWeb. As part of the deal, Eutelsat absorbed OneWeb's constellation of 648 low-orbit satellites. At just 1,200 km above Earth, the OneWeb fleet delivers faster internet speeds than Eutelsat's geostationary satellites, which sit 35,000 km above the planet's surface.

[...] The OneWeb-Eutelsat merger has been touted as Europe's entry into the space race. It is the only company currently competing with Musk's Starlink in the low-orbit market. But to claim its title as a European space giant, Eutelsat first has to navigate messy post-Brexit politics. Both France's Eutelsat and Britain's OneWeb were part-owned by their respective governments, and the two countries will continue to own stakes in the new business.

Berneke admits Brexit has brought challenges. "But there's been a willingness on both sides to reach across the Channel to try and find a good way of collaborating," she says. If Europe wants a homegrown satellite giant, Britain and France will have to resolve their differences. "[OneWeb's fleet] is going to be one of the only non-US-based constellations for a while," she says.

The Shadowy Financial Empire Built Around Liberty HealthShare Is Showing Signs of Strain "IndyWatch Feed Nthamerica"

ProPublica is a nonprofit newsroom that investigates abuses of power. Sign up to receive our biggest stories as soon as theyre published.

In just a handful of years, members of a Canton, Ohio, family built a financial empire that included a boutique airline, a bank in the Missouri Ozarks, a chain of carpet stores, a marijuana farm in Oregon, and more than $20 million in real estate. The conglomerate, as the Beers family calls it, was made possible by hundreds of millions of dollars collected from Americans who thought they had found an affordable alternative to medical insurance. Instead, many were saddled with debt.

The conglomerate, however, is showing signs of strain as the family downsizes its workforce and sells off some of its holdings. These moves will free up cash, said an attorney who represents several family members, and allow them to pay off a court settlement related to its alleged fraud. Now, another big debt has come their way: Several family members face liens placed against their properties for millions in back taxes.

A ProPublica investigation earlier this year revealed how Liberty HealthShare the Christian nonprofit the family controlled and marketed as a cheap way to circumvent Obamacare requirements paid at least $140 million to vendors owned by members and friends of the Beers family. Those family members and friends then funneled the money through a network of shell companies to purchase scores of businesses. As the family amassed wealth, Libertys finances were depleted and thousands of members medical bills went unpaid.

As part of the settlement with the Ohio attorney generals office in 2021, Liberty HealthShare severed all ties with the family.

Members of the family, including patriarch Daniel J. Beers, and their attorneys, have denied wrongdoing. They claim that the family-owned vendors Cost Sharing Solutions and Medical Cost Solutions LLC charged Liberty market rates or less for their...

Shehdeh Taha, 85, has experienced two Nakbas catastrophes in Arabic - in his lifetime.

The first occurred in 1948 when he was 11 years old, as well-armed Zionist militia forcibly expelled 750,000 Palestinians from their lands to establish what is now called Israel.

The second occurred in his 85th year, earlier this May, when Israeli warplanes destroyed his house while bombing an adjoining house, leaving him, his 19 sons and grandchildren homeless.

"Before the Nakba, we lived contented lives, mostly engaged in agriculture. People led simple and carefree lifestyles," he recounted, speaking to Middle East Eye from in front of his destroyed home.

Originally from Beit Lahiya village in northern Gaza, Taha witnessed how Palestinians were forced to flee to the Gaza Strip by the armed Zionists without any of their belongings.

Yes, you can yell fire in a crowded theater "IndyWatch Feed War"

By Didi Rankovic | Reclaim The Net | September 24, 2020

The manner in which free speech has been coming under attack over the past several years makes it easy to forget that this is not the only era of the internet and social media when this has been happening.

Different approaches and debates about how to handle what is, or is seen as misinformation and disinformation (used by most censorship champions interchangeably these days) have existed in the past as well, as have attempts to justify limiting freedom of speech protections provided by the US Constitutions First Amendment.

And in the US, the go-to crutch phrase used by those favoring the stifling of speech over promoting freedom of expression has been to explain it as the need to sanction those who are, proverbially, shouting fire in a crowded theater.

The expression is derived from a 1919 US Supreme Court case, US v. Schenck, during which Justice Oliver Wendell Holmes remarked that, The most stringent protection of free speech would not protect a man in falsely shouting fire in a theater and causing a panic.

The phrase would in the meantime all but inevitably appear whenever an argument is being made that censorship is acceptable and needed in order to prevent some type of harm. But the use of shouting fire in a crowded theater in this way is itself a form of disinformation.

Charles Schenck got himself in trouble, and in jail 100 years ago not by literally starting any fires, but by opposing the WW1 draft policy of his government, and putting together a pamphlet to this effect. Schenck v. The United States held that the defendants speech opposing the draft during World War I was not protected free speech under the First Amendment.

Some of the slogans he used are fairly universal, though, and can be applied to a variety of issues, including the present-day curtailing of online speech: messages like, Do not submit to intimidation, and, Assert your Rights.

Schenck was put on trial and found guilty under the Espionage Act, but in 1969, the US Supreme Court ruled on the issue of inflammatory speech in the Brandenburg v. Ohio case to annul the validity of that decision, when it established that the First Amendment does in fact protect free speech, all the way to the right of Ku Klux Klan members to advocate violence unless there as a direct threat of imminent lawless action.

Although the expression about fires in crowded theaters never carried actual legal weight, the 1969 decision should have also made it less and less appealing to censorship proponents. However, it is still going strong...

Zippy Plastic Welding "IndyWatch Feed Tech"

Plastic welding isnt a new idea. But a recent video from [The Maker] shows an interesting twist. Given a broken piece of plastic, he secures it together with tape, machines out a channel around the cracks, and then melts zip ties into the channels. Honestly, although he mentions plastic welding and soldering, we arent sure this isnt just simple gluing, but it did give us some ideas. Watch the video below and youll probably get the same ideas.

The ingenuity here isnt necessarily using hot plastic to glue together two pieces thats just a hot glue gun, after all. Rather, it occurred to us that the key here was machining out the places where significant amounts of the hot plastic could bond the two pieces together. He cut the channels with a rotary tool, buffed them, and used a hot knife to give them some internal texture. But with a 3D printer, you could build these channels into parts that were made to interlock.

Think about it. Two pieces you print that have some type of tab arrangement to interlock. But their surfaces provide a built-in glue canal, sort of like he builds on the video. At the end, you could use some of the same filament in a 3D printing pen or even rigged in a hot glue gun like the zip ties and make a perfect connection.

We havent tried this, but it seems like a good idea. Weve certainly...

Jerusalem Tomorrow "IndyWatch Feed War"

 Emmylou Harris Jerusalem Tomorrow:

Lyrics, Jerusalem Tomorrow:

Man, you should have seen me way back then
I could tell a tale I could make it spin
I could tell you black was white
I could tell you day was night

Not only that I could tell you why
Back then I could really tell a lie
Well, Id hire a kid to say he was lame
Then Id touch him and Id make him walk again

Then Id pull some magic trick
Id pretend to heal the sick
I was takin everything they had to give
It wasnt all that bad a way to live

Well, Im in this desert town and its hot as hell
But no ones buyin what I got to sell
I make my lame kid walk
I make a dumb guy talk

Im preachin up a storm both night and day
Everyone just turns and walks away
Well, I can see that Im only wasting time
So I head across the road to drink some wine

While the pub does not seem to attract fellow watchers of it, the at least where I was born unavoidable disaster called Eurovision was blasting through the televisions, laptops and tablets in the homes of millions of people. For some reason, its quite hilarious how this show is more corrupt and scandalous than your average World Cup game, and this contest is not even a truly global song competition!

      • Illuminations

While going for a slow walk down Writers Lane, on this fine Sunday, I suddenly remembered the first free verse poem I ever wrote, back in the mid 90s (later published as the leading poem in my first book of poetry, Ormmnniskan [Serpent Man], in 2015).
My father had died the year before, in 1994, and I was utterly lost. He was my mentor, my introduction into the arts, into literature and specifically poetry (he was an aspiring poet back in the early 1940s, but got desillusioned [to say the least] by the war, stationed on the Swedish-Norwegian border all through-out his active service, and started drinking at an early age, found his safe place, his own steady pace in life a periodic abuse of alcohol, a slowly progressing disease that eventually took his life at the age of 74). The overwhelming grief I felt was double-edged. I had been there myself, drank far too much in my early twenties, later went into a self-imposed exile in the U.S. and Mexico and fell into an addictive world of mescalin, DMT and psilocybin. I came out of it, in the early 90s, and never went back. My father stood by me. And my mother, of course. Without them, I wouldnt be here. And thats that. Illuminations. And anxiety, passion, fright, darkness, pain, sorrow, love and hope.

Dr. Sucharit Bhakdis Warning to the World | Childrens Health Defense

In Germany, Dr Bhakdi has been charged with hate speech for telling the truth and revealing the science behind the experimental mRNA injections reminds me of Galileo. He faces two years in prison.

Side track. I wonder how much better off we would be if the WHO was run by the likes of this doctor and others like McCullough, Yeadon, Rose, Nass were running it instead of the bought and paid for, sycophantic, medically unqualified ex-terrorists who currently run it.

My cliff notes (E&OE):

Warri: Pessu Market Traders Cry Out Over Illegal Collection Of Levies, Say Its Crippling Sales "IndyWatch Feed Africa"

PESSU MARKET WARRI

LAGOS MAY 15TH (URHOBOTODAY)-Traders at Pessu Market in Warri South Local Government Area of Delta State have identified illegal collection of levies, otherwise known as DEVE, as the major setback in the market.

The traders stated this when Mr ThankGod Ojogor, an Itsekiri  leader, visited the market to ascertain the reason for  the slow pace of business activities in the market.

The market women said the incessant collection of  illegal levies by the community youths have greatly undermined the yam depot which the market was popularly known for.

According to Mrs Patience Umukoro,  DEVE is responsible for low patronage because trailers no longer bring foodstuff to the market as it was in time past when trailers discharged yam and other foodstuffs in the market.

Mrs Umukoro said at present,  trailers conveying yam and other foodstuffs offloaded the goods along roadside markets in the City of Warri where the demand of levies was manageably low.

She said patronage was low because large quantities of foodstuffs  were no longer brought into the market for wholesales, adding  that many traders had abandonded their shops and moved away to other busy markets in the area.

The traders, therefore, called on the Delta State Government and other relevant authorities to checkmate the situation to forestall a total collapse of the erstwhile busy market.

Its Complicated; You Got Stool Sculpture Deities and Shit Golems Fitted Inside Each Other Like Russian Dolls. "IndyWatch Feed War"

Reflections in a Petri Dish May 14, 2023

Dog Poet Transmitting.

Critical Mass gets closer each day. I suspect the pretense and illusion of balance will not survive this coming summer.

Jordan Neely; poster-thug of the month, was arrested 44 times over the course of his now thug-interrupted life. Recently he was assaulting people (I think that was his day job) on one of the New York Subway Orc trains. At one point he grabbed a woman by her hair eventually, some of the still bi-pedal travelers objected to this display. Apparently, that does happen rarely but it does happen.

At one point in his career as a mayhemer extraordinaire, he tried to kidnap a 7-year-old and got 4 months. Thats how they do it in New York these days, as long as youre not white. Daniel Penny, the man who stopped Neely is white. He put Neely in a chokehold to quiet him down and Neely developed George Floyd Syndrome and passed away. It was not Pennys intention to kill the man, but destiny stepped in, and I suspect all of Neelys future victims felt a lightness in the air at that moment; a sort of moonwalking goose going backward over their graves.

Why did the No Justice, No Peace mob show up to howl and stamp their feet about this predator being silenced in the midst of his predatorial act? How did it flash mob its way around The World like a cannon shot from Fort Sumter? How did The Michelin Girls over at The View wind up waving their handkerchiefs as strange airbrushed tears were shed, and ran down their porcelain faces? It was The George Soros Commie Telegraph that brought the bad news from Aix to Ghent.

You can tell that they are gearing up for some hot fun in the summertime. Another Civil War is brewing, and the agitators are grasping at every opportunity to summon the troops.

Its a cultural civil war. Some part of it has to do with castrating prepubescent boys. Some part of it has to do with cutting the tits off of pubescent girls. Some part has to do with killing Whitey. Some part of it has to do with Killer Vaccines and some part of it has to do with humping everything thats standing still or still moving.

Well this is Petri Dish; does my ass look gay in these jeans?

A hidden power grab has been going down. George Soros bet against the British Pound in the fall of 92. It was a logical progression of his work as a teenager for The Nazis. Beel Cleenton was on his way to The White House. Certain deck chairs were being shifted on The Titanic. It was all a precursor for The Sexual Identity Wars on the horizon 911 and a lot of other assorted nasty business

I dont think Little Georgie Sorrows had a billion when he bet ag...

UK propaganda network funded by MI6 laid the ground for Ukraine conflict "IndyWatch Feed War"

Introduction May 14, 2023

In case you had not noticed, Russia has been getting a lot of bad publicity recently:

Russia to blame for worst food crisis since WW2, says US envoy

Biden blames Russias war in Ukraine for food supply shortages and price hikes

Russian ghost ships with underwater capabilities circled Nord Stream explosion site, documentary claims

Biden blames Russia for gas prices as he presses Congress, states and oil companies

At first glance it may appear that the Russians really are a bad bunch. However, as Kit Klarenberg reveals below, British Intelligence may have set-up a media organisation to coordinate all the bad publicity about Russia. Blaming it for everything from food shortages to energy price hikes the aim is to turn public opinion against Russia.

We saw something similar shortly before the Anglo-American-led invasion of Iraq. You may remember that the Western MSM had a field day with stories about Saddams Weapons of Mass Destruction.

In the end no Iraqi Weapons of Mass Destruction were ever found and all the speculation about Saddams WMD turned out to be completely baseless. All that publicity was useful only insofar as it mentally conditioned the Western public for war with Iraq.

Does the spate of negative publicity concerning Russia and President Putin serve a similar function?

Are we now being set-up for a wider war with Russia?

UK propaganda network funded by MI6 laid the ground for Ukraine conflict

Press TV April 24, 2023

The Integrity Initiative, a propaganda network linked to Britains secret intelligence agency MI6, has demonized Russia in the West and laid the ground for the year-long conflict in Ukraine to rage on, according to a journalist.

Kit Klarenberg, an investigative journalist and Press TV Website contributor, told Press TVs Palestine Declassified program that Integrity Initiative, a British project funded by MI6 and run by British military intelligence, has sought to pin the blame on Russia for all domestic political events in the West.

One of Integrity Initiatives key objectives as a black propaganda unit, was to try and to fix blame on Russia for almost any and every national domestic political event across the Western world, it al...
