Nachdem Microsofts Cloud einmal so nachhaltig zerhackt ... "IndyWatch Feed Europe"

Update: Versetzt euch mal kurz in Microsofts Management rein.

Was nun?

Ah. Compliance- und Security-Theater. Das dynamische Duo der Digitalisierung! :-)

The Right Benchmark for GPT "IndyWatch Feed Tech"

Dan Maloney wanted to design a part for 3D printing. OpenSCAD is a coding language for generating 3D objects. ChatGPT can write code. What could possibly go wrong? You should go read his article because its enlightening and hilarious, but the punchline is that it ran afoul of syntax errors, but also gave him enough of a foothold that he could teach himself enough OpenSCAD to get the project done anyway. As with many people who have asked the AI to create some code, Dan finds that its not as good as asking someone who knows what theyre doing, but that its also better than nothing.

And this is where I start grumbling. When you type your desires into the word-follower machine, your alternative isnt nothing. Your alternative is to fire up a search engine instead and type openscad tutorial. That, for nearly any human endeavor, will get you a few good guides, written by humans who are probably expert in the subject in question, and which are aimed at teaching you the thing that you want to learn. It doesnt get better than that. Youll be up and running with your design in no time.

The Movie and the Moment "IndyWatch Feed War"

The ground-breaking movie Oppenheimer, despite its unsympathetic protagonist, packs a powerful anti-nuclear punch that makes it hard, if not impossible, to sleep after watching the film.

For this reason alone, the movie should be shown on the floor of Congress and in the White House as required viewing by all in DC bent on spending $1.7 trillion over the next decades to build new nuclear weapons to kill us all.

Only those with a global death wish or on the payroll of Northrop Grumman, the military contractor with the nuclear modernization contract, could watch this film and still root for US nuclear rearmament, a horror show now underway with the blessings of DC politicians. Unless people rise up in fury, unless this Hollywood movie sparks a second nuclear-freeze movement, a repeat on steroids of the 80s nuclear weapons freeze, Congress and the White House will raid the treasury to expand our nuclear arsenal.

On the agenda is a new sea-launched nuclear cruise missile, a gravity bomb with two-stage radiation implosion, a long range strike bomber and the replacement of 400 underground nuclear missiles in the midwest with 600 new Intercontinental Ballistic Missiles. These new ICBMSThe Sentinelcould each carry up to three warheads 20 times more powerful than the atomic bombs the US dropped on Hiroshima and Nagasaki to incinerate 200,000 people in a span of three days.

Irish actor Cillian Murphy plays the role of J. Robert Oppeneheimer, a hand-wringing scientist, a lackluster womanizer, a man with few convictions but lots of demons, who traverses an emotional landscape of ambition, doubt, remorse and surrender.

Oppenheimer oversees the Manhattan Project, the team of scientists hunkering down in the beautiful desert of Los Alamos, New Mexico, to build the hideous atomic bomb before the Germans or Russians crack the code.

In a scene reminiscent of the absurd 1950s, when pig-tailed school children scrambled under desks in mock nuclear drills, scientists don sunscreen and goggles to protect themselves during the blinding Trinity Test. This...

Encryption-Breaking, Password-Leaking Bug In Many AMD Cpus Could Take Months To Fix "IndyWatch Feed Tech"

Arthur T Knackerbracket has processed the following story:

A recently disclosed bug in many of AMD's newer consumer, workstation, and server processors can cause the chips to leak data at a rate of up to 30 kilobytes per core per second, writes Tavis Ormandy, a member of Google's Project Zero security team. Executed properly, the so-called "Zenbleed" vulnerability (CVE-2023-20593) could give attackers access to encryption keys and root and user passwords, along with other sensitive data from any system using a CPU based on AMD's Zen 2 architecture.

[...] The bad news is that the exploit doesn't require physical hardware access and can be triggered by loading JavaScript on a malicious website (according to networking company Cloudflare). The good news is that, at least for now, there don't seem to be any cases of this bug being exploited in the wild yet, though this could change quickly now that the vulnerability has been disclosed, and the bug requires precise timing to exploit.

"AMD is not aware of any known exploit of the described vulnerability outside the research environment," the company told Tom's Hardware. Cloudflare also says there is "no evidence of the bug being exploited" on its servers.

Since the vulnerability is in the hardware, a firmware update from AMD is the best way to fully fix it; Ormandy says it is also fixable via a software update, but it "may have some performance cost." The bug affects all processors based on AMD's Zen 2 architecture, including several Ryzen desktop and laptop processors, EPYC 7002-series chips for servers, and Threadripper 3000- and 3000 Pro WX-series CPUs for workstations.

The article mentions that the firmware update for EPYC 7002 is already out, but updates for consumer-market chips may not be available until December.

Hepatitis B and CA Closer Look at NIAID Research to Accelerate Elimination "IndyWatch Feed Tech"

Viral hepatitis is an inflammatory liver disease caused by infection with any of the known hepatitis virusesA, B, C, D, and E. Most of the global viral hepatitis burden is from hepatitis B and C, which affect 354 million people and result in 1.1 million deaths annually. The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention estimates that in 2020 there were 14,000 and 50,300 new acute infections of hepatitis B and C in the United States, respectively, while at least 880,000 people in the country were living with chronic (long-term) hepatitis B and 2.4 million people had chronic hepatitis C. About half of those with viral hepatitis are unaware of their infection. Chronic and persistent inflammation from the disease can lead to liver failure, cirrhosis, or liver cancer. Viral hepatitis affects all ages and there are pronounced inequities in disease outcomes in the United States. Hepatitis B and C disproportionately affect people living with HIV, and HIV increases the rate of complications and death in people with viral hepatitis.

On this World Hepatitis Day, the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases (NIAID), part of the National Institutes of Health, shares a snapshot of its investments in basic (laboratory), preclinical (laboratory/animal), and clinical (human) research to improve screening, prevention and treatment for hepatitis B and C. Scientists in the Hepatic Pathogenesis and Structural Virology sections of NIAIDs Laboratory of Infectious Diseases conduct basic and translational research to better understand hepatitis B and C disease progression, clarify the role of hepatitis viruses in liver cancer, and inform discovery of new vaccines, medicine and technologies. Both NIAIDs Division of AIDS (DAIDS) and the Division of Microbiology and Infectious Disease (DMID) support scientific programs focused on hepatitis B and C research and curative strategies, reflecting the widespread impact of viral hepatitis and the urgent need for safe and effective interventions.

Two Atoms Vibrate Like a Laser "IndyWatch Feed Tech"

A laser for vibrational energy, rather than for light, operating in the quantum regime could teach researchers about the interplay between spin, vibration, and dissipation in quantum mechanics.

Phonon lasers replace the light excitations (photons) that are used in a standard laser with vibrational excitations of matter (phonons). Researchers have now coaxed two ions into forming a phonon laser containing fewer than 10 phonons, placing it firmly in the quantum regime [1], whereas previous phonon lasers had at least 10,000 phonons. The researchers plan to use this quantum phonon laser as a tool to investigate the role of dissipation in the behavior of quantum systems.

Dissipationenergy leaking into or out of a system in the form of heatis often seen as a nuisance in physics, for example, when it takes the form of air resistance and reduces the fuel efficiency of a car or an airplane. But quantum systems also exhibit dissipation, and its effects in the quantum realm are not fully understood. Jonathan Home of the Swiss Federal Institute of Technology (ETH) in Zurich and his colleagues wanted to investigate how two separate sources of dissipation can interact to affect the behavior of a quantum system. A laser is the simplest quantum system we could think of that allows such experiments, Home says.

In this episode, I interview Dr. Robert Sapolsky, Ph.D., Professor of Biology, Neurology & Neurosurgery at Stanford University. We discuss stress, what defines short-term versus long-term stress, and how stress can be beneficial or detrimental, depending on the context. We also discuss stress mitigation and how our sense of control over stress mitigation techniques, including exercise, determine health outcomes. Dr. Sapolsky explains some of the key effects of the hormone testosterone how it can amplify pre-existing tendencies for aggression or sexual behavior, but that it does not produce those behaviors per se. He also explains how testosterone impacts our social hierarchies, sense of confidence, and willingness to embrace challenges of different kinds. He also explains how our behaviors and perceptions shape testosterone levels. And we discuss estrogen and the powerful role it plays in brain development, health and longevity. Finally, we discuss free will, what it means to have free will, and if we have any free will, including how knowledge alone might allow us to make better decisions for ourselves and society.

Episode 9: Solo Why Is There Something Rather than Nothing? "IndyWatch Feed Tech"

New Patreon page! https://www.patreon.com/seanmcarroll.

Blog post: https://www.preposterousuniverse.com/podcast/2018/08/13/episn-nothing/

Its fun to be in the exciting, chaotic, youthful days of the podcast, when anything goes and experimentation is the order of the day. So todays show is something different: a solo effort, featuring just me talking without any guests to cramp my style. This wont be the usual format, but I suspect it will happen from time to time. Feel free to chime in below on how often you think alternative formats should be part of the mix. The topic today is Why Is There Something Rather than Nothing?, or equivalently Why Does the Universe Exist at All? Heady stuff, but were not going to back away from the challenge.

What I have to say will roughly follow my recent paper on the subject, although in a more chatty and accessible style. It concerns ideas at the intersection of physics, philosophy, and theology, so tune in if youre into that sort of thing.

Big news! After a number of people have asked, I have finally opened a Patreon account for people who would like to support Mindscape in some way. You can sign up to kick in a dollar or more per podcast episode, and in return you get 1) access to occasional Ask Me Anything episodes done exclusively for patrons, and 2) my undying gratitude. If the Patreon route is successful enough, Ill forego having ads on the podcast well see how it goes.

Franklins Franklins Were Freakishly UnFakeable "IndyWatch Feed Tech"

To make something hard to fake you can use exotic materials or clever tricks. Benjamin Franklin, a printer by vocation, a scientist by avocation, leaned on cleverness, developing measures that are still in use.

Those black arts have now yielded to the latest analytical instruments, as described in the Publications of the National Academy of Scientists by a group led by Khachatur Manukyan, a research associate professor at the Nuclear Science Laboratory of the University of Notre Dame.

This work took 6 to 7 years to complete, Manukyan tells IEEE Spectrum, involving, as it did, the detailed comparison of some 600 bills printed by Franklin, other legitimate printers, and counterfeiters between 1709 and 1790. This was always an educational program, helping undergrads learn these techniques; three of our authors were undergrads at the time.

Franklin had been interested in the matter even before the revolution, when the colonies were chronically short of gold and silver coinage and thus lacked a convenient means of exchange for domestic transactions. In his Autobiography, Franklin mentions the success of his essay promoting the use of paper money. Laymen were understandably skeptical, at first, because paper money was unfamiliarthe cryptocurrency of its time.

Chemical analysis, including the use of Raman spectrography and X-ray fluorescence, showed that the ink was made from natural graphite, with its characteristic impurities, rather than Franklins usual standby, lampblack, which is a carbon-rich black pigment made from burned vegetable oil. Colored inks, used sparingly, were analyzed into their parts in a similar fashion, with red based on iron and with blue based on Prussian blue, itself an iron-rich compound.

The bills printed by Franklin and his colleagues are distinguished from all the other bills by the blue fibers that predominate on the surface; they appear to have...

North Korea demonstrates remarkable capabilities during Shoigus visit "IndyWatch Feed War"

By Drago Bosnic | July 28, 2023

On July 26, Russian Defense Minister Sergei Shoigu held high-level defense talks with his North Korean counterparts. In a clear message to the United States, Pyongyang is also conducting a series of ballistic missile tests that serve as a warning to Washington DCs belligerence. Namely, the US is escalating tensions with everyone in the area, including by sending its nuclear-powered submarines to South Korean ports. Apart from various guided missile submarines (SSGNs), the US Navy also sent the USS Kentucky, a nuclear-armed ballistic missile submarine (SSBN), that docked in the southern port city of Busan on July 18. It should be noted that this was the first such visit since the 1980s, marking not only a symbolic, but an actual US return to Cold War-era posturing.

Sending SSBNs such as the USS Kentucky to the region is not only a message to North Korea, but also Russia and China. This Ohio-class submarine can be armed with up to 20 UGM-133A Trident II SLBMs (submarine-launched ballistic missiles), which, albeit over 30 years old at this point, can carry up to 14 warheads each, including the latest very low yield W76-2, with the power of approximately 27 Kt (kilotons of TNT). While such warheads are not nearly as destructive as the original W76, theyre equipped with new advanced fuses and their primary purpose is the destruction of enemy ballistic missiles while theyre still in silos. Such weapons are a direct threat to all three (Eur)Asian nuclear powers, as it gives the US certain first-strike capabilities that are yet to be matched by anyone outside Russia.

Such US moves are certainly part of the reasons why Shoigu visited Pyongyang and held talks with his North Korean counterpart Kang Sun-nam. He reiterated President Putins message about friendly bilateral relations that are bound to be improved in all fields. Shoigu expressed confidence that the meeting would strengthen military cooperation between the two countries.

I am confident that todays talks will contribute to strengthening cooperation between our defense ministries. Visits of warships, official visits of high-ranking defense officials, exchanges of working-level delegations and personnel training have all contributed to maintaining peace and stability on the Korean Peninsula, he said, adding: I am glad to make y...

Wild or not? Dilemma over two human-friendly rhinos in Nepal "IndyWatch Feed Enviro"

KATHMANDU Somlal Majhi, a resident of Patihani near Chitwan National Park in Nepal, has an unusual job. He is a herder of rhinos. Majhi watches over two female greater one-horned rhinos (Rhinoceros unicornis) named Pushpa and Anjali. They were released into the wild by conservation authorities in May after years of human contact. Although the rhinos attract tourists, who enjoy taking selfies with them, Majhi says they can damage crops if they arent monitored. But conservationists are alarmed by the presence of the rhinos in the area. They say they pose a risk to themselves and to people and urge officials to relocate them as soon as possible. Because they were used to humans, they started visiting nearby villages, says Bed Khadka, a former park staffer and conservationist. They need to be removed immediately, he adds. Their only shot at survival now is at a zoo in Nepal or abroad. The rhinos were rescued as calves in 2020 and 2021, when they were injured and abandoned by their mothers. They were raised by the National Trust for Nature Conservation (NTNC), a semigovernmental body, at its office in Sauraha, near the park. They were transported by truck to a wetland near the parks headquarters and released without tranquilizers. Poachers could easily bait and kill them for their horns, Khadka adds. Greater one-horned rhinos are classified as vulnerable by IUCN, the global conservation authority. Their horns are prized in traditional Chinese medicine, despite having no proven benefits. One-Third of Americans Anticipate Another Insurrection If Biden Wins "IndyWatch Feed Nthamerica"

Just about one-third of Americans believe that Republicans will stage another violent insurrection at the US Capitol if President Joe Biden wins reelection next year, according to a new poll.

That is a staggeringly high number for a country that, until Donald Trump, prided itself on a peaceful transfer of power every four (or eight) years for more than 200 years.

However, large numbers of Americans across the ideological spectrum apparently feel that this is now a thing of the past.

While this opinion was most prevalent among Democrats, more than a quarter of Republicans also believed that it is either somewhat or very likely that there will be a violent attempt at taking over the Capitol to stop Congress from certifying the election.

Obviously, seeing how he is the runaway favorite to win the GOP nomination next year, the result could be a reflection of the belief of Americans that Trump, specifically, would incite violence again.

It is interesting that people who voted for the former president in 2020 were least likely to say that another insurrection was upcoming if Biden won.

Among all of the demographics that were quizzed in this poll, conducted by The Economist and YouGov, young people felt most strongly that more violence was on the horizon if the Republican candidate lost.

Nearly half (46 percent) of Americans from the ages of 18 to 29 anticipate another attack on the Capitol.

The poll also found that 18 percent of people believe that Democrats would stage their own insurrection if Biden lost.

With another indictment related to the events of January 6, 2021, looming, a plurality of Americans felt that Trump should be charged with a crime. However, the country is almost evenly split on the issue.

Things are a bit clearer when it comes to whether Trump bears responsibility for what happened. Less than one-third of Americans believe that the former president is completely blameless for what happened. That number would be significantly lower if 62 percent of his own voters hadnt expressed that they felt that way.

Nearly half of all Americans (and independents) said Trump urged his supporters to engage in violence on that day.

Americans Strongly Favor Lab Leak Theory "IndyWatch Feed Nthamerica"

Scientists and the US intelligence community remain split on whether the virus that triggered the COVID-19 pandemic developed naturally or came from a lab. For example, a recently declassified intelligence report said that both theories remain plausible. The American people are feeling a lot less ambivalent, according to a new poll. A solid majority of them believes that the virus originated in a Chinese lab.

Nearly one-third of respondents thought it was definitely true that the virus came from a lab while another 29 percent felt it was probably true, the poll, which was conducted by The Economist and YouGov, found.

That viewpoint was especially prevalent among voters of former President Donald Trump. A whopping 87 percent of them believe that the virus definitively or probably came from a lab.

But even Democrats are more likely to think that the lab leak theory is true than not. Only a quarter of them are of the opinion that it is false as opposed to 44 percent who believe it is true.

Perhaps the most striking finding of the poll is the low number of Americans who think that the lab leak theory is definitively false. Overall, only 5 percent of them feel that way as opposed to more than six times as many who think it is definitively true.

The poll also included several other interesting findings. For example, a quarter of Trump voters denied that there even was a COVID-19 pandemic. It doesnt really make sense that 87 percent of them believe the pandemic started in a lab but 25 percent think it didnt happen.

Republicans were more likely to say that they had tested positive for COVID-19. A total of 39 percent of them said they had personally tested positive as opposed to 31 percent of Democrats. That is probably not surprising as conservatives were more likely to resist lockdown and social distancing measures early on in the pandemic.

The poll also showed that about one-quarter of Americans have not been vaccinated at all. Predictably, that number is highest among Republicans, 32 percent of whom did not receive any COVID-19 shots. What stands out is that 30 percent of independents also said they had not been vaccinated....

Democrats are seeking out moderate Rep. Dean Phillips of Minnesota to challenge President Joe Biden in a 2024 primary, Politico reported Friday. Phillips is meeting with Democratic donors in New York City next week to discuss a potential bid, which would only come if there's a serious decline in the president's health or standing among the electorate. "Nobody wants to be the one to do something that would undermine the chances of a Democratic victory in 2024," Phillips previously told Politico. The Right Equipment Makes a Difference for Digital Oscilloscope Music "IndyWatch Feed Tech"

We all love our cheap digital oscilloscopes, and with good reason. But if theres one place where analog scopes still shine, its anywhere you need X-Y mode. Digitally sampling the inputs and mapping them on the screen as discrete points just isnt the same as steering an electron beam around a CRT, making X-Y mode work on digital scopes at least the affordable ones somewhat lacking.

Thankfully, nobody told [Mark Hughes] that his digital scope would make a lousy X-Y display, so he just plunged ahead and figured out how to make it work anyway. The results are actually pretty good, but it took some doing. His setup begins with OsciStudio, an application built to take 3D shapes and animations and turn them into oscilloscope music. The output from that is piped to a USB sound card; [Mark] used a PreSonus Studio 26c, an adapter with DC-coupled inputs, which he found to be critical to getting good images. Also important was a USB isolator and good-quality cables, which greatly reduced jitter and made the image much more stable.

Kurdish groups accuse Iraq and the Kurdish authorities there of turning a blind eye to Turkish armed strikes (AFP)

A drone strike in northern Iraq killed four members of the Kurdish Workers' Party (PKK), with officials of the Kurdistan Regional Government (KRG) blaming the Turkish army for the incident.

The strike occurred near the city of Sulaymaniyah, in Iraq's autonomous Kurdistan region, and came a day after the Turkish army killed four members of the Kurdish-led Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) in neighbouring Syria.

A KRG statement confirmed a strike occurred at 8pm local time on Friday and said: "Four PKK fighters were killed and wounded when a Turkish army drone targeted their vehicle near the village of Rangina."

Turkey has classified the PKK, an armed group based in northern Iraq, as a terrorist organisation, with members of the SDF viewed by Turkish authorities as an "offshoot" of the organisation.

The Turkish army rarely comments on strikes it makes against the PKK but regularly targets the group's bases in the mountains of the Kurdistan region.

While weather conditions have been different from any other year - with experts calling the first three weeks of July the hottest on record - most of the fires could have been prevented, the government claimed on Friday. • The study departs from profiling based on demographic profiles of extremist individuals and uses a Human-in-the-Loop system to assist in data analysis and code data faster, transforming textual data into a graph database.
  • The research validates the premise that radicalization is a product of deepening engagements that occur incrementally, leading to violent extremist actions marked by violence in the name of ideology.  Read More

Congressional Testimony Asserts FBI Knew Biden Laptop Was Not Russian Disinformation "IndyWatch Feed War"

  • During a transcribed interview, Laura Dehmlow, the Section Chief of the FBIs Foreign Influence Task Force, revealed that FBI personnel who warned social media companies about a potential Russian hack and leak operation in the 2020 election knew that Hunter Bidens laptop was not Russian disinformation.
  • The FBI made an institutional decision to refuse to answer direct questions from social media companies about the laptops authenticity, leading the companies to conclude that the New York Post story on the laptop was Russian disinformation.

Activists Have Long Called for Charleston to Confront Its Racial History. Tourists Are Now Expecting It. "IndyWatch Feed Nthamerica"

In his younger days as a carriage driver, Tony Youmans would strike a rapport with customers, nearly all of them white, as he prepared to show them around downtown Charleston, South Carolina. Youmans knew that long-whitewashed racial history lurked everywhere beneath every cobblestone, every courtyard garden, the hooves of every draft horse he steered past the finely preserved antebellum structures.

But if he mentioned slavery or pointed out enslaved peoples quarters, a couple would cringe and roll their eyes, so you quickly went back to the moonlight and magnolias.

Today, he is part of a movement to tell a more complete story of the city. After 40 years in its booming tourism industry, he is seeing a huge shift in visitors reactions, from denialism to curiosity.

African American tourism right now is red hot, especially in the South, Youmans said. He sees this up close as manager of the Old Slave Mart Museum and director of the Old Exchange and Provost Dungeon, two key historic sites. People are hungry for this information, he said, and they come to Charleston specifically looking for it.

US announces $345 million tranche of $1 billion weapons package for Taiwan "IndyWatch Feed World"

The Biden administration announced a $345 million weapons package for Taiwan on Friday, the first tranche in a total of $1 billion the U.S. has allotted to be transferred directly from Pentagon stockpiles to the island this year. The move is sure to anger China as Washington has been trying to rebuild relations with Beijing. Senior administration officials, including Secretary of State Antony Blinken and Treasury Secretary Janet Yellen, recently visited China, but the outreach has done little to quell tensions over a range of issues, from U.S. support to Taiwan to Beijing's spy balloon program. "We take our responsibilities to Taiwan and to improving their self-defense capabilities very, very seriously," John Kirby, a spokesperson for the National Security Council, told reporters ahead of the announcement on Friday.

At this time, I could not find any official message from Google about this spec, so it is possible that it is just the work of some misguided engineer at the company that has no backing from higher up, but it seems to be work that has gone on for more than a year, and the resulting spec is so toxic to the open Web that at this point, Google needs to at least give some explanation as to how it could go so far.

WAR Is The Crime, Not How It Is Committed! "IndyWatch Feed Africa"

While the bluster about cluster bombs covers the subject of murder with liberal prattle about how its committed, one of humanitys oldest but ever more dangerous problems continues as a major profit creator while adding to humanitys losses. Hairs are split over how skulls are shredded and bodies made unrecognizable as though its all okay if allegedly civilized people just obey rules based societies teaching about how to maim, slaughter, destroy, reduce cities to wreckage and bodies to pulp the proper way, in adherence to higher education taught forms of mass murder which can be performed in civilized ways, according to the teachings of creatures who might make lions and tigers vomit while eating their prey.

Rules of war are drawn up by people taught to think of it as some natural way of resolving difference among people and the righteous way for murderous brute force to be exercised to solve problems. The ruling war makers are people who could not play touch football without their bodies breaking apart but anxious and even seemingly to the point of being sexually gratified by creating and teaching ways to murder other humans, in great numbers, and thereby make a killing at the market. While earlier times assured that warriors faced opponents and frequently murdered them face to face, modern civilization allows most to be distant observers of war, except for when they are its direct victims not in long-range terms of paying a price for social breakdown at home but actually dying in warfare.

The ridiculous notion that only warriors suffer in wars- as though that was some excuse for individual acts of brutality always social in nature but dependent on nearly helpless participants under the ownership and control of ruling minorities may have been true at least in part until the second world war. That historic slaughter saw the destruction of cities and their un-informed masses in numbers to make strong people weep if they only saw and understood them. But consciousness controllers operate in far more powerful ways than ever and continue to sell the lie that there is a moral, legal, correct way to blast human bodies apart, crush skulls and reduce humans to unrecognizable pulp and that is practiced by humanitarian, democratic degeneracy in contrast to enemies who do the same thing and are thus deemed evil, monstrous war criminals. This is like making rape legal as long as rapists wear gloves!

The deepening mental instability of fading western power has Putin accused of war crimes by global assassins who make him look like a pacifist by comparison to their ongoing mass murders all over the world, whether by bloody military, bloody economics or bloody politics, all the result of language murder by something calling itself democracy when practiced by Americans, Europeans and their once faithful servants from Africa, Asia, Latin America and other formerly colonized possessions who are becoming far less inclined to scrape...

Congressional Investigation Reveals Top-Secret Evidence of Crashed Alien Spacecraft "IndyWatch Feed War"

On July 26, 2023, as the House Subcommittee on Unidentified Anomalous Phenomena (UAPs) continued its ongoing hearings, several witnesses with sound scientific and military background testified to the frequent sightings of strange flying objects that defy the laws of physics as we know them.  One highly credible witness, not at liberty to disclose the full facts, nonetheless informed the Committee of the discovery of crash-sites in which non-biologics evidently the remains of non-human occupants of these crafthad been identified:

Committee members were thunderstruck: had the combined armed forces and intelligence agencies hidden this astounding discovery from the American citizenry?  And why?  Clearly a widespread conspiracy, impervious to media investigation, had long been operative.

The U.S. House of Representatives, confronting their oversight responsibility in the event of sudden threats to national security, established this special Subcommittee precisely for this purpose.  Many pilots, civilian and military, have in recent months been spotting unknown aerial objects with erratic flight behavior.

To my mind, this conspiracy may well have begun in the aftermath of the now-declassified file on the Roswell incident.  It is self-evident that alien beings, commonly referred to as extra-terrestrials, must have arrived quite a long time ago to our unexceptional Solar system, one among thousands of such systems astronomically detectable just a few light-years away.  Moreover, who can doubt that, given the extraordinary technological advances of Homo sapiens inhabiting what astronomer Carl Sagan called our tiny blue dot (that is, from the perspective of a NASA probe in our outer planets), that these highly intelligent beings wisely chose to investigate our possibly threatening activities.

And it is only logical that their crafts have an as yet unknown propulsive force, allowing them to travel at the optimal speed of 186,000 miles per second (yes, the speed-of-light!).  Moreover, extrapolating further, one can justifiably conclude that such astounding spacecraft are most likely to have originated from a planet within the Star System closest to ours, Proxima Centauri.  Therefore, these remarkable beings, having chosen our planet (out of countless thousands of others) as an urgent destination, were quite willing, given their incredible achievement of the maximal velocity possible in the universe, to devote some 3.2 earth-years of their time to arrive at our designated planet.

All I can say is: we must be...

A Tale of Two Twelfths "IndyWatch Feed Politics.eu"

It was the best of times, it was the worst of times, it was the age of wisdom, it was the age of foolishness, it was the epoch of belief, it was the epoch of incredulity, it was the season of light, it was the season of darkness, it was the spring of hope, it was the winter of despair.

This opening paragraph from Charles Dickens A Tale of Two Cities sums up many peoples views on the Twelfth with the appropriate text deleted or highlighted depending on the individuals perspective. The Twelfth itself and the wider Orange Institution can also be divided into two, with what some see as the more family-oriented rural Twelfths juxtaposed against the more unfriendly urban Twelfths, the Belfast Twelfth comes in for notable criticism annually.

Its easy to make sweeping generalisations about the Twelfth, but there are notable differences between what happens in Belfast and what happens elsewhere, which is difficult to reconcile as they celebrate the same things and are organised by the same entity with the same rules applying to everyone. I read an article on Slugger titled A Free Staters Guide to the Belfast Twelfth, depicting a very sterile, almost post-apocalyptic individual are valid and should be of interest to those of us who want to improve the Twelfth overall; however, it would be unfair to depict them as an accurate view of the Twelfth in its totality. The Belfast Twelfth has obvious problems that need addressing from anti-social behaviour to paramilitary trappings.

Having attended several mini-Twelfths in Belfast that double as Battle of the Somme commemorations, the problems were brought into sharp focus. On one side, there is a celebration of religious identity and culture, and on the other, its about remembering those who fought and died at the Somme. This is an uneasy balancing act. Ironically, the event fails on both fronts, and a key problem is some of the wider trappings that have crept in and are now unwanted and extremely noisy fixtures. For several years, I have witnessed people watching the parade so intoxicated on alcohol and are drugs that they are both a danger to themselves and others: people vomiting, people relieving themselves against public and private property, drug taking, trash strewn on war memorials, church property desecrated and even within the parade, some were drunk. When the parade stopped for a ten-minute interval, many within the procession began drinking alcohol, usually provided by a runner who parallels the bands and lodges during the parade. None of this was befitting of an event aimed at commemorating those who fought at the Somme; if anything, it was extremely disrespectful, and none of this was appropriate for a Twelfth event aimed at celebrating religious and cultural identity.

In adherence to the rules of the Orange Institution, these are all disci...

Barbie Pathologies: Its All About a Doll "IndyWatch Feed War"

As the ancient Greeks reminded us, bone cold definitions as starting points are essential in any discussion.  One current discussion, insignificant to posterity but amusing for advertisers and the presently bored, is the ludicrous reactions to a plastic doll rendered into celluloid form.  And as a doll, it can be no other.  Mattels Barbie has become, courtesy of Greta Gerwig, a talking point so silly it deserves to be treated trivially.  But money, advertising, and Mattel, wont allow that.

Commentators, whatever their ilk, cannot help themselves.  Jourdain Searles, evidently struggling to earn a crust or two, asks two banal questions.  This first: In a cinematic landscape drowning in IP, would a live-action film about the Barbie doll, Mattels flagship toy, be held up as proof of the continued commodification of cinema as an artform?  The second is not much of an improvement: And in a more progressive cultural landscape, could a woman-directed film about Barbie dolls be feminist?  Not necessarily.

The New York Times does not disappoint in its silliness. Can a doll with an ingratiating smile, impossible curves and boobs ready for liftoff be a feminist icon?  No, it cannot, but stating something so embarrassingly asinine is very much in character with this field.

From the conservative, domestic, home stove huggers, this is distinctly not on.  Ben Shapiro of the Daily Wire lamented the unironic use of the word patriarchy more than 10 times.  Toby Young in The Spectator moaned that, The film is a gender studies seminar disguised as a summer blockbuster,.  Kyle Smith, formerly a National Review critic, echoed the grievance in the Wall Street Journal.  As bubbly as the film appears, its script is like a grumpier-than-average womens studies seminar.

Young goes a bit deeper in opining that Barbie is an act of self-flagellation a way of doing penance for a sin of being associated with a brand that was insufficiently woke in the past.  Dont be too white; dont be too thin.  This paean to female empowerment is a plea for forgiveness from the titans who run Mattel, but I suspect it will be another case of Go woke, go broke.

On Sky News Australia, one researcher even thought it worthwhile her time, and ever...

Staggering Towards the Abyss "IndyWatch Feed War"

By William Schryver | imetatronink | July 28, 2023

I have long asserted, and I continue to be convinced, that the US could NOT establish air superiority against Russia, China, nor even Iran not in a week; not in a year. Never. It simply could not be done.

American air power would prove substantially inferior to the extremely potent and abundantly supplied air defenses arrayed against it in any of those three countries.

American suppression of enemy air defenses would prove woefully inadequate to the task.

And even if any of the USs aerial wunderwaffen were to prove, in ideal circumstances, to be potent weapons, US air power as a theater-wide undertaking could not be sustained in the context of a non-permissive regional and global battlefield.

In a high-intensity combat scenario in either eastern Europe, the China seas, or the Persian Gulf, the maintenance requirements for US aircraft could not be met. Mission-capable rates would plummet even lower than their notoriously abysmal peacetime standards.

The US would, quite literally after only a few days, see sub-10% mission-capable rates for the F-22 and F-35, and sub-25% rates for almost every other platform in the inventory.

It will be a huge scandal for the Pentagon but hardly a huge surprise.

And this is hardly hyperbole. It is more or less common knowledge among those who think about these aspects of war the only aspects that really matter in the final analysis.

US supply lines would be severely attrited on both a regional and a global scale.

Russian and Chinese submarines and long-range anti-ship missile systems would wreak havoc on US seaborne logistics.

I repeat: The US could not fight an overseas war in a non-permissive environment against a peer adversary. It doesnt have the means, let alone the experience and competence, to do so.

In eastern Europe, Russia would savage NATO bases and supply routes. The Baltic and Black seas would effectively become Russian lakes where NATO shipping could not move.

And anyone who believes I am making unfounded hysterical assertions is either ignorant of the simple military and mathematical realities of the situation, or so blinded by American exceptionalism and its attendant ills that they are unable to discern things as they really are.

I have come across relatively little discussion of the crescendo pace with which Russia, China, and Iran have been conducting military coordination in general and naval drills in particular over the past few years.

Russia and China are now engaging in joint naval patrols of the western Pacific!

Russia, China, and Iran are engagi...

A Game Boy Camera, Without The Game Boy "IndyWatch Feed Tech"

We all know the Nintendo Game Boy camera peripheral, and weve seen plenty of hacks for it on these pages over the years. We like [Raphael Boichot]s camera then, as instead of including a Game Boy or emulating one, it talks directly to the sensor from an RP2040. The result is a standalone camera with slightly better quality than the original, and with near-limitless storage and easy retrieval of pictures.

For us the interesting revelation from this project comes in the light it sheds on the sensor module, the Mitsubishi M64282FP, but its no slouch as a camera beside that. There are motion sensor and timelapse modes, as well the ability to take high dynamic range pictures, and as if thats not enough it also has all the tweakable things youd expect from a proper camera. The oldest adage in photography is that the best camera in the world is the one in your hand, and wed say that this ones better than a real Game Boy Camera should the once-in-a-lifetime picture come while youre holding it.

Of course, a better Game Boy camera needs a better lens, right?

Tracking the Population Crisis "IndyWatch Feed Tech"

What has also now become obvious is that small time financial incentives have almost zero impact.  We have a long history now proving just that.  They simply do not work.

The emerging depopulation crisis has now become completely global, however much our politicians try to ignore it all.  It is driven by two factors.  The Big one is modernity.  women find they must become financially secure before they produce children and this demands employability for women.  husbands have always been too chancy.

the second issue has been the advent of contraception.  It took a long time for this innovation to work its way through but it has and employed swomen lose any enthusiam for children as they slowly age out.  It never gets better.

I have posted regarding our future solution here and another option besides mandatory child production of four babies between 18 thru 24 is the actual advent of true age reversal which appears on the horizon now.

Mandatory child production must also include natural community support to make child bearing actually bearable.  this is returtning to my policy solution for poverty using the natural community and internal application of fiat money.

Hunter Biden's full plea deal "IndyWatch Feed Tech"

however, I am sure they collected all their fees up front, so they played it out.

There was no way that any judge was not going to treat these documents to a fine forensic scrutiny, just to protect herself.  It is now a statement of fact that aspects must go before a federal court.  That is hardly what they wanted.  Now they can blame a too careful judge no less.  Oh the irony.

Blind boy, 14, has his vision restored by eyedrops that use inactivated HERPES VIRUS "IndyWatch Feed Tech"

What we are talking about here is a likely topical solution able to reverse scaring.  This actually makes sense because scars do disapate over usually decades.  Thus a topical solution to skin scarring is particularl valuable while deeper scaring will take surgegal intervention in combination as happened here.

Besides the obvious cosmetic repairs, there is plenty of surgery induced scaring that can be addressed as well that hinder full healing.

all this is important and will become universal practise as it rolls out.  This is merely the first public success that jumped out of the lab..

EU Banks See Record Collapse In Loan Demand "IndyWatch Feed Tech"

Sounds scary, but the fact remains that the whole banking system is in the business of producing loans.  this is a small downdip while they figure out how to roll over their loan portfolio.

And they will.  just why do you think that everyone in Canada just about is some sort of millionaire on real estate?  what is more, just about everyone has been recruited into the overall ponzi scheme.  We are now adding one million imnigrants per year to sustain overall demand.

Understand just why this actually works.  An immigrant is understood to be partially loyal to their home country.  We know this, but understand that all their children will pass through our education system which makes them really good Canadians and this is largely done in even several years.    All good.

The impermanence of land and legacy "IndyWatch Feed Politics.eu"

Impermanence is a collection of essays by writers from or living in Northern Ireland. Its co-editor, Neil Hegarty led a discussion at a John Hewitt International Summer School event, with contributors Jan Carson, Susan McKay, and Nandi Jola, reflecting upon the books themes and suggesting ways of looking at our past, present, and future.

Neil HEGARTY. Panel discussion on Impermanence book. John Hewitt International Summer School. Armagh, Northern Ireland. Allan LEONARD @MrUlster

Neil Hegarty provided context for the book. He was in Paris and witnessed the burning of Notre Dame, which made him think about the loss of the built environment in Northern Ireland during the Troubles and beyond: What youre told is permanent is not permanent at all. It is impermanent. Hegarty approached Nora Hickey, and the resulting book, Impermanence, was published by No Alibis Press and has been turned into an RTE audio series.

Hegarty asked each panellist to reflect on their state of mind as they undertook the task of writing their essay for the book.

Jan CARSON. Panel discussion on Impermanence book. John Hewitt International Summer School. Armagh, Northern Ireland. Allan LEONARD @MrUlster

Jan Carson explained that she didnt want her essay, Lapsed, to be written in anger but a balanced reflection on growing up in a very evangelical Protestant culture the good and the bad things. She said that there is a time in ones emergence into adulthood of unpicking what you inherited from your parents in forming your own identity. Carson added: Its a really precious process and something we possibly dont do very well in the north, and that it was important to allow time for this journey of transition. Barbaric Pseudoscience: Chloe Cole Calls For Lawmakers To Protect Children From Transgender Procedures "IndyWatch Feed War"

Leif Le Mahieu The Daily Wire July 27, 2023

Chloe Cole, a 19-year-old woman who was put through sex change procedures as a young teenager, told lawmakers Thursday on Capitol Hill that she was the victim of the one of the biggest medical scandals in American history.

Cole made the comments during a House Judiciary Committee hearing on The Dangers and Due Process Violations of Gender-Affirming Care For Children. Cole was one of the several witnesses, including a former teammate of transgender identifying swimmer Lia Thomas, who spoke about the dangers of gender ideology.

This needs to stop. You alone can stop it. Enough children have already been victimized by this barbaric pseudoscience, Cole said. Please let me be your final warning.

I speak to you in the hope that you will have the courage to bring this scandal to an end, and ensure that other vulnerable teenagers, children, and young adults dont go through what I went through, Cole said.

Cole told lawmakers that she started to experience gender dysphoria at 12, and soon after, she began to be transitioned as her family was sent down a path of ideological deceit and coercion by doctors.

She said she was put on puberty blockers right away, and they began to put her on testosterone at 13. At 15, she underwent a double mastectomy despite the fact that she did not have breast cancer.

Before I was able to legally drive, I had a huge part of my future womanhood taken from me, she said, explaining that her voice had been permanently altered and that her fertility was unknown due to the procedures that were done on her.

Biden creates new permanent Office of Pandemic Preparedness and Response Policy, signaling second round of medical martial law "IndyWatch Feed War"

Leo Hohmann leohohmann.com July 27, 2023

Will Americans be duped again into complying with high-pressure masking, group-think, forced lockdowns, and repeated mRNA jabs?

Last week on Friday, July 21, the Biden administration quietly announced the creation of a new permanent office within the White House called the Office of Pandemic Preparedness and Response Policy, or OPPR.

Joe Biden has named a military man, retired Air Force Maj. General Paul Friedrichs, to head up the new office.

Why now? I thought Covid was over. Biden said months ago Covid was over, totally conquered.

The only folks I know who are still getting Covid are the ones who got multiple mRNA Covid jabs, causing their immune-compromised bodies to continue to manufacture the toxic spike proteins, which then make them sick. We also continue to hear weekly of young healthy people who are dying suddenly with no warning.

By creating this new office and emphasizing that it will be permanent, this is a red flag that should have our keen attention. Is the government, still drunk with new powers gained from the last pandemic, telegraphing to us plebeians that another pandemic is right around the corner?

The significance of this step by Biden last Friday cannot be fully and properly contextualized without going into a little history dating back to 2019 and 2020. We could go even further back to show how U.S. laws were changed in preparation for a massively hyped pandemic, but for the sake of space I will only go back a few years.

While the media and the entire globalist establishment did their best to hide it, the United States, in the spring of 2020, went into a form of medical martial law.

In a May 15, 2020, news release from the Department of Defense, the Trump administration announced the appointment of General Gustave F. Perna as chief operating officer of Operation Warp Speed, the administrations national program to accelerate the development, manufacturing, and distribution of COVID-19 vaccines, therapeutics, and diagnostics (medical countermeasures).

Below is Trump at the White House podium with General Perna as he announced the launch of Operation Warp Speed.

OLED Display Lets Vintage PC Engage Turbo Mode in Style "IndyWatch Feed Tech"

Back in the 486 days, it was common to see a Turbo button on the front panel of many PCs, which was used to toggle between the CPUs maximum speed and a slower clock rate that was sometimes necessary for compatibility with older software. Usually an LED would light up to show you were running at this higher speed, or if your machine was very fancy, it might even have a numerical display that would show the current CPU frequency.

[Joshua Woehlke] wanted to add a similar display to his 486, but figured that with modern technology, he could do something a bit more interesting. Especially when he realized that the spot on his case where the two-digit LED display would have originally been mounted was the perfect size to hold a common 0.96 SSD1306 OLED. From there it was just a matter of wiring it up to an Arduino and writing some code to display different graphics depending on the computers current CPU speed.

White House Concerned over Niger Coup

Military leader of the CNSP calls for change in the domestic and foreign policy of the landlocked West African state.

By Abayomi Azikiwe, Editor, Pan-African News Wire

Friday July 28, 2023

Geostrategic Analysis

A new leader has emerged in the uranium-rich West African state of Niger, just two days after the elected head-of-state, President Mohamed Bazoum, was toppled by his special forces.

The presidential guard on July 26 took over the residence of Bazoum and other key government buildings including the national media.

Colonel-Major Amadou Abdramane spoke for the newly established National Council for the Safeguard of our Homeland (CNSP), saying that the president had been detained. Abdramane later claimed that the government had been seized by the presidential guard due to the declining security, economic and social conditions prevailing in the former French colony of 25 million people.

On July 28, yet another television announcement was made, this time by General Abdourahmane Tchiani, who said he was the leader of the CNSP and the present head-of-state for the country. General Tchiani continued a similar narrative related to the worsening atmosphere in Niger and the need to embark upon a different course.

Niger has been a close ally of France and the United States in its war on terror across the continent of Africa. The U.S. Africa Command (AFRICOM) and the French Armed Forces maintain a significant troop presence inside the country. Published figures indicate that France has at least 1,800 soldiers in the country while the Pentagon forces stand at approximately 1,100.

There are two drone stations established by the Pentagon and the Central Intelligence Agency (CIA) in Niger ostensibly to curtail the attacks by armed Islamist groups which have been staging operations in the south and west of the country. However, anyone assessing the military presence in Niger by NATO states cannot ignore the western interests in the...

Outcome of Russia-Africa Summit

Mikhail Metzel/TASS

African states still suffer from displays of colonialism - in economy, in particular, Russian President Vladimir Putin said during the plenary meeting of the Russia-Africa Summit. Meanwhile, Russia makes efforts to ease the debt burden of African nations.

The African leaders spoke about the importance of cooperation in security, food security included, while Russia shared its plans to increase its democratic presence on the continent.

Here are the key events and statements of the Summit.

Moscow writes off debts

Russia will allocate more than $90 mln for lowering the debt burden of African countries, with their indebtedness written off by Moscow totaling $23 bln.

According to Russian Ambassador at Large, head of the Russia-Africa Partnership Forum Secretariat Oleg Ozerov, African countries debt issues before Russia have currently been settled by 90%.

"There are some financial issues, but we are not talking about the direct debt. We are talking about certain financial agreements and obligations of sides," he noted.

The West seeks to maintain its "dominant position in Africa, prevents reforms and exerts pressure, using the financial debt, which destroys the economy and increases poverty," Libyan Presidential Council Chairman Mohamed al-Menfi said.

Colonialism heritage

Africas allies, including Russia, India and China could buy finished products from Africa instead of raw materials, resident of Uganda Yoweri Kaguta Museveni said.

Using coffee as an example, Museveni pointed out that added value for finished goods is being produced beyond African territory.

"This is a problem that slowed down Africas growth," he stated.

Putin pointed out that some displays of colonialism have not been eliminated to this day and are "still being practice by metropoles - in particular, in economy, informational and humanitarian areas."

Putin Hosts African Leaders at a Summit in Russia with Promises of Expanding Trade and Other Ties

5:22 PM EDT, July 28, 2023

ST. PETERSBURG, Russia (AP) Russian President Vladimir Putin courted leaders from Africa at a summit on Friday, hailing the continents growing role in global affairs and offering to expand political and business ties.

Addressing the Russia-Africa summit for a second day, Putin said Moscow would closely analyze a peace proposal for Ukraine that African leaders have sought to pursue.

This is an acute issue, and we arent evading its consideration, the Russian leader said, emphasizing that his government was treating the African initiative with respect and looking at it attentively.

He encouraged the African leaders to talk to Ukraine, which has refused to engage in talks until Russian troops pull back. I believe its necessary to also talk to the other side, although we are grateful to our African friends for their attention to the issue, Putin said at the St. Petersburg summit.

South African President Cyril Ramaphosa said African leaders were looking forward to engaging further with Putin later Friday on their peace proposal.

It is our hope that constructive engagement and negotiation can bring about an end to the ongoing conflict, Ramaphosa, who leads sub-Saharan Africas most developed country, said, adding in South Africa, our own history has taught us that this is indeed possible.

Without specifically mentioning the fighting in Ukraine, Ugandan President Yoweri Museveni denounced those who foment ideologically-driven military conflicts as time and opportunity wasters, adding that human history will move on, whether they like it or not.

The only justified wars are the just wars, like the anti-colonial wars, Museveni said. Wars of hegemony will fail and waste time and opportunity. Dialogue is the correct way.

Panic Buying Starts Again "IndyWatch Feed World"

First, it was toilet paper, then baby formula, and now its non-basmati rice that people are running to the stores and buying in bulk. India has put into effect on July 20th the ban on non-basmati rice in order to calm domestic prices. According to the International Food Policy Research Institute, the global rice market prices have already risen 15%-20% since September of 2022. People have already started panic buying in Texas, Washington, Michigan, and other states. It has not hit every state yet; the impact of this ban has been more so in the regions of larger Indian-origin populations. Most grocery stores have already allegedly limited one bag of rice per customer. Wholesalers and other companies have been adjusting prices which leads to price gouging, so rice is selling for double than usual.

Rice was already at a high point price-wise during Covid-19 and with the war in Ukraine, it gouged the cost of wheat, causing rice production to increase. Allegedly, according to a store owner, there has not been a date specified that this ban in India exports will lift. He is suggesting that this ban will be anywhere from 6-8 months.

Socrates has projected that volatility would rise starting here in 2023, and prices should rise further into 2024. Thereafter, geopolitical instability may further impact supply.

Part of that law included funding for 'red flag laws nationwide. The reason for this is that the Anti-Gun lobby knows that a national red flag law is totally unconstitutional and would immediately be struck down by federal courts. 4,000 Nurses Left Ghana Between January and July This Year

By GNA

July 28, 2023

Some 10,209 nurses between January 01, and July 07, 2023, sought clearance with the Ghana Registered Nurses and Midwives Association (GRNMA) Secretariat to leave the country for greener pastures.

Out of the figure, about 4,000 were cleared and have travelled to work outside as nurses.

Dr David Tenkorang-Twum, General Secretary of GRNMA, said this in an interview with the Ghana News Agency (GNA).

She said rampant exit was affecting the healthcare system because many of those leaving were experienced nurses, who were supposed to mentor the younger ones.

Dr David Tenkorang-Twum said the situation was leading to staff shortage, with pressure on the few remaining staff.

Nursing care is a continuum, and if people who are to relieve you have travelled out, it tells one to put in a little long hour, which will create issues of work overload.

Somebody who has practised for several years has considerable competencies and experience that we have to count on.

Theres going to be a gap between the newly qualified and the very old because those who have served up to 10 years are leaving, who are there to mentor the new ones that are coming?

He attributed the situation to the harsh economic conditions in the country, saying: The only thing that can resolve this matter is to improve the service condition of nurses and what comes to mind is our premium.

The General Secretary stated that the delay in employing fresh graduates was another issue of concern, adding that fresh graduates would be tempted to migrate or find other profitable jobs when not given clearance and immediate employment.

If we employ them as quickly as possible and engage them as soon as they complete their course or service, that temptation to migrate will be minimised.

Even if some will leave, only a few people will leave, he explained.

Dr Justice Yankson, Vice President of the Ghana Medical Association (GMA), urged the government to improve the working conditions of health pro...

Ghana Votes to Abolish the Death Penalty 30 Years After Last Execution

BY FRANCIS KOKUTSE

9:37 AM EDT, July 26, 2023

ACCRA, Ghana (AP) Ghanas parliament has voted to abolish the death penalty for all crimes except high treason, formalizing what has been a de facto moratorium on executions for the past three decades.

Lawmakers endorsed the proposed amendment to the countrys criminal offense law during a televised session of parliament on Tuesday, in a vote praised by rights advocates. The measure goes now to the president who is expected to sign the bill into law.

Under the change, the sentences of 176 death row inmates, including six women would be commuted to life imprisonment.

Ghana is upholding the constitutional and fundamental human right of everyone, said Enoch Jengre, program officer of Ghanas Legal Resource Center. No human being or institution should have the right to take the life of another.

Capital punishment is becoming less common on the African continent. According to the advocacy group World Coalition Against the Death Penalty, 26 African countries had outlawed the practice outright, while Ghana and 14 others had all but stopped executions, as of 2022.

Ghanas last state execution was in 1993.

By and large the general populace have accepted that (the death penalty) may not be useful, said Accra-based criminal lawyer Francis Gasu. The lawyer said judicial errors are too common, and police investigations are too flawed, to stand by the practice.

While abolishing the death penalty is popular among human rights groups and legal experts, not everyone in Ghana believes it should end. It is going to encourage some people to engage in crime knowing that they will only end up in prison after conviction, said Raymond Kuudaah, a social worker in Accra.

Nigerian Doctors Walk Off the Job Again: Overstretched and Underpaid, Many Have Left for Overseas

BY CHINEDU ASADU

2:18 PM EDT, July 26, 2023

ABUJA, Nigeria (AP) Resident doctors in Nigerian public hospitals on Wednesday launched their second strike this year to protest unpaid salaries and demand improvements in pay and working conditions.

The Nigerian Association of Resident Doctors declared a total and indefinite strike following unsuccessful attempts to engage with the government, the groups president, Dr. Innocent Orji, said in a statement issued after the group met Tuesday night.

Strikes by doctors in Nigeria are common, and the latest one could shut down some healthcare services in critical wards across under-staffed public hospitals in Africas most populous country. The resident doctors are graduate trainees who help provide urgent and critical care at the public hospitals.

An average of 200 resident doctors in Nigeria have relocated abroad every month over the last two years, seeking better pay, Dr. Orji told The Associated Press. Their positions are left vacant, further worsening the relatively affordable healthcare services in public hospitals in the country of more than 210 million people.

We are having a massive brain drain in the health sector, Dr. Orji said. It has never been this bad.

The World Health Organization reports that Nigeria has a ratio of four doctors to 10,000 patients as of 2021. However, the Nigerian Medical Association told The Associated Press their records show a ratio of two doctors to 10,000 patients generally, and one to 10,000 in some rural areas, which would make Nigerias doctor staffing one of the worst globally.

Salaries for resident doctors have not increased since 2009, Orji said, and the value of the local currency against the U.S. dollar has fallen by 480% since then. At the same time, inflation has surged and gas subsidies have been ended, he said.

A highly qualified senior doctor earns less than $900 a month while those with about five years of experience earn between $400 and $...

The Nuclear Energy Trap "IndyWatch Feed War"

Nuclear reactors are directly in the line of fire of global warming.

In fact, nuclear reactors cannot survive global warming. But thats only the start of serious issues with the worlds newly found love affair with nuclear energy. This article examines the likelihood of nuclear energy as a fixit for global warming, or is it a victim?

The world is turning to nuclear energy as one solution for raging global warming, which has been in the news on a real time basis drying up commercial rivers, depleting major reservoirs and spreading wildfires like theres no tomorrow. Yet, thats only a sampling of global warming knockoffs. Significantly, its getting worse by the year, and there are some who wonder how much worse before the climate system literally implodes with destructive capacity beyond Hollywoods wildest imagination.

In consequence, nuclear energys popularity is on the rise in concert with rising global temperatures. The hotter it gets the more supporters jump on the bandwagon, but there are plenty of reasons to believe its a fools paradise. History will likely judge this worldwide movement for nuclear energy as one of the biggest traps of all-time. Nevertheless, the nuclear energy trap is coming onstream faster and faster and without much opposition. Maybe there should be some.

A Gallup survey found 55% of U.S. adults in support of nuclear energy, which is the highest in over a decade. The Biden administration views nuclear as a key climate solution to net zero. Japan is restarting its idled plants and plans on building more as it commences the absolute insanity of releasing radioactive toxic water in storage tanks at Fukushimas TEPCO nuclear plant directly into the readily available, right-next-door Pacific Ocean, as its neighbors squeal and many smart scientists squirm. Meanwhile, China, with 24 nuclear energy plants currently under construction, ambitiously plans to build at least 150 new reactors over the next 15 years. India is planning to commission 20 reactors by 2031. Worldwide, 60 new reactors are under construction.

Nuclear energy is on the move at a time when more and more exposure of cancer cases and deaths become public knowledge, as follows:

  • A BBC Future Planet article d/d July 25, 2019, The True Toll of the Chernobyl Disaster: According to the official, internationally recognized death toll, just 31 people died as an immediate result of Chernobyl while the UN estimates that only 50 deaths can be directly attributed to the disaster. In 2005, it predicted a further 4,000 might eventually die as a result of the radiation exposure Browns research, however, suggests Chernobyl has cast a far longer shadow.
  • The number of deaths in subsequent decades remains in dispute. The lowest estimates are 4,000; others 90,000 and up to 200,000....

ABUJA, Nigeria (AP) Nigerias President Bola Tinubu on Thursday forwarded 28 ministerial nominees to federal legislators for confirmation as he seeks to finally set up his Cabinet to lead Africas most populous country.

The long-awaited list featuring six women was presented to the Nigerian Senate by Tinubus chief of staff Femi Gbajabiamila, a day before the deadline and nearly two months after the Nigerian leader took office.

On the list with no assigned portfolios are four former governors and three presidential aides. It also features prominent professionals such as Muhammed Ali Pate, a former Nigerian health minister and former director at the World Bank who recently turned down an appointment to lead the global vaccine alliance Gavi.

Tinubu on May 29 took the reins of Africas largest economy, a nation of more than 210 million people, after promising to build on the achievements of his successor and end chronic bad governance that has stifled development.

In addition to his pledge to end the deadly violence in the hard-hit northern region, the 71-year-old also promised to revive the economy, which has been struggling with surging inflation, high debt and job losses since the pandemic. But he has had a rough start in office with continued extrajudicial killings and economic hardship worsened by some of his policies. These include putting an end to gas subsidies that have been in place for decades but without so...

Sierra Leone and Neighbors to Fight Piracy in the Gulf of Guinea after a Chinese Ship Was Hijacked

BY KEMO CHAM

1:16 PM EDT, July 27, 2023

FREETOWN, Sierra Leone (AP) Sierra Leone said Thursday it is working with neighboring countries to step up the fight against piracy in the Gulf of Guinea after a Chinese fishing vessel was hijacked in its waters earlier this week.

The area off the coast of West Africa is one of the worlds most dangerous places for attacks on ships.

Twenty-three crew members on board Shenghai-2, including six Chinese nationals, were rescued a day after the hijacking on Sunday. The ship was sailing with another fishing vessel, Aliman, when both came under attack by heavily armed pirates, Sierra Leones Navy Chief Commodore Philip Juana told The Associated Press.

Aliman evaded seizure while the attackers sailed the hijacked vessel toward neighboring Liberia. The following day, the ship was freed and some of the pirates were caught by Liberian forces, Juana said.

We are looking at how to curb the menace in the region, he added. Sierra Leone officials will engage with counterparts in Liberia on future operational strategy against piracy, he added.

In June last year, the United Nations Security Council unanimously adopted a resolution condemning piracy, armed robbery and hostage-taking in the Gulf of Guinea. The area has recorded at least three pirate attacks in recent months, including in April, when pirates targeted a Chinese-run oil tanker.

In Liberia, the Ministry of National Defense said in an earlier statement the rescue effort lasted for more than 24 hours and ended on Monday. It included a coordinated operation that also involved the neighboring Cote dIvoire.

Two pirates were arrested while some weapons were recovered, the ministry said. An unspecified number of other pirates who were involved in the attack has evaded arrest.

Juana, the navy chief, said Sierra Leone and Liberia are investigating the hijacking.

Understanding and Using Unicode "IndyWatch Feed Tech"

Computer engineer [Marco Cilloni] realized a lot of developers today still have trouble dealing with Unicode in their programs, especially in the C/C++ world. He wrote an excellent guide that summarizes many of the issues surrounding Unicode and its encoding called Unicode is harder than you think. He first presents a brief history of Unicode and how it came about, so you can understand the reasons for the frustrating edge cases youre bound to encounter.

There have been a variety of Unicode encoding methods over the years, but modern programs dealing with strings will probably be using UTF-8 encoding and you should too. This multibyte encoding scheme has the convenient property of not changing the original character values when dealing with 7-bit ASCII text. We UTF still officially on the books today:

10 Surprising Facts About Cheating "IndyWatch Feed World"

Cheating, the act of being unfaithful to a partner in a committed relationship, has been a complex and enduring issue throughout human history. While infidelity is a well-discussed topic, there are still numerous surprising facts that shed new light on this phenomenon. In this article, we will explore ten unexpected and eye-opening facts about cheating that might challenge your preconceptions.

Infidelity is Not Gender-Exclusive:

Contrary to popular belief, both men and women are capable of cheating. Research shows that rates of infidelity have become increasingly similar between genders, with women being as likely to cheat as men.

Age Matters But Not How You Think:

Its commonly assumed that younger individuals are more likely to cheat, but studies reveal that infidelity rates peak during middle age. The period between ages 40 to 50 is when people are most prone to extramarital affairs.

Emotional Affairs Can Be Equally Damaging:

Physical intimacy is often equated with cheating, but emotional affairs can be just as harmful to a relationship. Forming deep emotional connections with someone outside the partnership can lead to feelings of betrayal and emotional distance from the primary partner.

Education and Infidelity:

Research suggests a surprising link between educational level and cheating. Individuals with higher levels of education tend to be more faithful to their partners. This correlation may be due to increased commitment and dedication to personal values.

Cheating is Seasonal:

Studies have shown that cheating seems to have seasonal patterns. Rates of infidelity tend to rise during specific times of the year, such as summer and around major holidays. The reasons behind this seasonal trend remain a subject of ongoing investigation.

Social Media Plays a Role:

The prevalence of social media has introduced new avenues for infidelity. Digital platforms can facilitate connections with old flames or allow individuals to engage in emotional affairs behind a virtual curtain.

Cheating May Run in the Family:

Surprisingly, there seems to be a genetic component to infidelity. Some studies suggest that certain genes may contribute to a persons likelihood of being unfaithful. However, it is essential to remember that genetics is just one factor among many that influence behavior.

The Power of Office Romances:

The workplace has become a common breeding ground for infidelity. Spending significant amounts of time with coworkers can create emotional bonds that may lead to cheating.

Financial Stress and Cheating:

Financial difficulties can strain relationships and may increase the likelihood of infidelity. Some individuals may seek emotional or financial support outside the partnership during challenging economic times.

Cheating and the Digital Divide:

Surprisingly, regions with...

New insights into the origin of the Indo-European languages "IndyWatch Feed World"

Linguistics and genetics combine to suggest a new hybrid hypothesis for the origin of the Indo-European languages. An international team of linguists and geneticists led by researchers from the Max Planck Institute for Evolutionary Anthropology in Leipzig has achieved a significant breakthrough in our understanding of the origins of Indo-European, a family of languages spoken by nearly half of the world's population. For over two hundred years, the origin of the Indo-European languages has been disputed. Two main theories have recently dominated this debate: the 'Steppe' hypothesis, which proposes an origin in the Pontic-Caspian Steppe around 6000 years ago, and the 'Anatolian' or 'farming' hypothesis, suggesting an older origin tied to early agriculture around 9000 years ago. Previous phylogenetic analyses of Indo-European languages have come to conflicting conclusions about the age of the family, due to the combined effects of inaccuracies and inconsistencies in the datasets they...

Bill Gates and the total failure of his malaria eradication programme "IndyWatch Feed War"

By Guy Hatchard | TCW Defending Freedom | July 24, 2023

There has been a major eruption of fury because malaria has been found in mainland America in Texas and Florida. These are the same places where Bill Gatess genetically modified mosquitoes have been released in their millions. This was part of an on-going programme funded by Gates for over ten years which is supposed to banish malaria from the world. It hasnt.

The fun started when Twitter bloggers @TexasLindsay and @TheChiefNerd, among others, began to dig up not just the hype Gates has been promoting for more than ten years promising malaria eradication through genetic modification, but also the scientific concerns voiced at the time. Lo and behold, scientists suggested that the Gates programme would eventually lead to mutated mosquitoes which would promote the spread of malaria more effectively.

You will appreciate that this is relevant to the safety of genetic modification. As such, it was bound to raise the ire of tame fact-checkers. Associated Press weighed in on cue by splitting hairs. They noted that whilst the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation supported Oxitec (the company releasing modified mosquitoes in Florida and Texas) with money, that doesnt actually quite fit the definition of funding the particular work being done in the US. AP also pointed out that the Florida malaria cases occurred 280 miles away from the site of the experiments, as if mosquitoes cant fly or ride the wind.

Whatever is going on here, it is not being controlled. A deep dive into the Twitter threads linked above will show you that the Gates mosquito programme has never achieved any of its promised results. No worries, though, Gates is not just funding genetic modification of mosquitoes but also has a bet each way with his malaria vaccines. A win-win investment strategy for the man with a deep interest in population control (and money).

Where could the modification of mosquitoes really be taking us?

I have previously discussed the known possibility of general system collapse following genetic modification and editing, and suggested that...

Possible Movement on the Cancer Front "IndyWatch Feed Nthamerica"

I got a second PET scan* on the 19th; and the results were basically the same as the one Id had four months ago:  the cancerous lump hadnt gotten any bigger, and theres still no evidence of any spread to my lymph nodes.  Its possible that I might have to get another biopsy of the lymph nodes just to make sure; but the last I heard, the biopsy guy didnt think it would be necessary.  Well see how that goes.

Assuming that I dont have to worry about the lymph nodes, which the oncologist I saw today said he thought was highly likely, Ive decided on radiation and chemotherapy.

Im told that the radiation will be something like a dental x-ray, except that itll take about fifteen minutes during which time Ill be immobilized inside something that theyll mold around my body.  IIRC, there will be three treatments on separate days, and Ill be able to drive myself home after each one.

The chemo will be more complicated:  three treatments on consecutive days repeated three more times at 21-day intervals.  This would bump into my trip to Hawaii in November by a day or two; but the oncologist said that he could work around that.  He also said that, although some folks do get nausious from the drugs that hell use for the chemo, very few do; and I should be able to drive myself home after those as well.  Thats important because the flip side of there being no one who depends on me for anything is that theres nobody whom I can reasonably ask to drive me to and from the hospital and then take care of me after I get home.  (This will be an issue if I need another biopsy since that requires general anesthesia; and so Id need to be admitted to the hospital overnight for observation.  I wouldnt mind that except for the boredom, but it seems wasteful to melike I was hoarding a hospital bed for what would likely be no good reason.)

If there are no lymph node issues, and if the radiation and chemo work as expected, both the radiologist and the oncologist assure me that I should retain sufficient independence and cognitive abilities to continue serving on the ISO C++ committee through next year at least.  Thats good news because next summers meeting in Stockholm has fallen through, and Ive made an offer to host the committee next June or July.

I feel a whole lot better now that I have a plan.

Video: Lets talk about heat, pavement, and Arizona mostly "IndyWatch Feed Nthamerica"

I talk a lot about parts of the world becoming uninhabitable, as the temperature rises, but I generally focus on stuff like the increase in wet bulb conditions. Beau of the Fifth Column has rightly pointed out that theres another way in which heat makes the outdoors dangerous the temperature of pavement. As youre probably aware, when temperatures climb past the 90s, asphalt in the sun can get literally hot enough to fry eggs. Those conditions are increasing as well, meaning that for longer periods of the year, simply falling over can give you severe, even life-threatening burns. This is a good reason to be careful during heatwaves (be careful of your dogs as well their paws cook just as easily as our skin), but its also a good reason not to keep expanding roads and car-dependence. Paving the world is increasingly going to turn places like parking lots into death traps. Content warning for descriptions of burns:

Summers are our busy season, so we anticipate that this sort of thing is going to happen. But this is really unusual the number of patients that were seeing and the severity of injuries the acuity of injuries is much higher, said Dr. Kevin Foster, director of burn services at the Arizona Burn Center at Valleywise Health. The numbers are higher and the seriousness of injuries are higher, and we dont have a good explanation for it.

Every single one of the 45 beds in the burn center is full, he said, and one-third of patients are people who fell and burned themselves on the ground. There are also burn patients in the ICU, and about half of those patients are people burned after falls.

It has definitely taken its toll, Foster said.

The area has been hotter than usual, even for Arizona, and that, experts said, means that the ground can be dangerous for anyone whose bare skin comes into contact with it.

Asphalt is dark and dense. While concrete is lighter and reflects some sunlight, when the sun shines on asphalt, its dark color causes it to absorb light and it heats up.

Since it is a dense material, it also holds the heat even after the sun has been shining on it.

On a hot day, asphalt can easily be 40 to 60 degrees hotter than the air, so...

What a coincidence: Dengue cases skyrocket just as dengue vaccine approaches licensure "IndyWatch Feed Africa"

And just as Bill Gates is rolling out his genetically engineered mosquitos

BY MERYL NASS | JULY 26, 2023

One dengue vaccine was licensed in the US in 2019 after killing dozens of kids in the Philippines. Philippine Ministry of Health and Sanofi officials went on trial for manslaughter in that case, just before the FDA issued the same vaccine a license. While the license was only issued for people aged 9-16, and only if they had had dengue once already, your tax dollars rolled it out all over Puerto Rico. Will all vaccinators follow those strictures?

Heres what CDC notes about the licensed vaccine:

This vaccine is different from other vaccines in that it is only recommended for people who have already been infected with dengue virus. The reason is that children without previous dengue infection are at increased risk for severe dengue disease and hospitalization if they get dengue after they are vaccinated with Dengvaxia. Therefore, healthcare providers should check for evidence of a laboratory-confirmed previous dengue infection before vaccination.

Another dengue vaccine has come before the VRBPAC FDA committee twice, and I blogged those meetings. It appears it only works for 2 of the 4 dengue strains. It supposedly did not need a blood test before use. Takeda is the manufacturer and it describes the vaccine here.

Epoch Times reports:

The World Health Organization (WHO) has warned that cases of dengue fever could reach record highs this year.

Dengue rates are rising globally, with reported cases since 2000 up eight-fold to 4.2 million in 2022, a WHO official said on July 21.

In January, the WHO claimed that dengue is the worlds fastest-spreading tropical disease and alleged it could be a pandemic threat.

The disease was found in Sudans capital Khartoum for the first time on record, according to a health ministry report in March, while Europe has reported a surge in cases and Peru declared a state of emergency in most regions.
