Kevin Spacey ist in London in allen Anklagepunkten freigesprochen worden.

Ach. Ach watt. Na sowas. SCHON WIEDER waren Vorwrfe von irgendwelchen Mchtegern-Influencern gegen berhmte Hollywoodstars komplett frei erfunden?

Meine Gte!

Was genau soll das heien?

Biden Regime Played Vital Role in Crimean Bridge Attacks Sy Hersh "IndyWatch Feed War"

Sputnik 27.07.2023

WASHINGTON The Biden Administration played a vital role in both recent deadly attacks on the Crimean Bridge, providing Ukraine with the necessary technology, US journalist Seymour Hersh reported on Thursday, citing a US official.

Of course it was our technology, the US official was quoted by Hersh as saying. The drone was remotely guided and half submergedlike a torpedo.

When Hersh asked if there was any thought before the bridge attacks about the possibility of Russias retaliation, the official responded with What will Putin do? We dont think that far. Our national strategy is that Zelensky can do whatever he wants to do. Theres no adult supervision.

On October 8, 2022, a car detonated on the Crimean Bridge, which connects the Crimean Peninsula with Russias mainland. Five people, including the driver of the truck, were killed. The bridge itself was seriously damaged.

On July 17, a submersible drone carried out another attack on the Crimean Bridge, killing a woman and a man and wounding their teenage daughter.

Ukraine Shipped Drugs and Russian Oil to Europe Under Cover of Grain Deal

In addition, the journalist reported that Ukraine shipped drugs and Russian oil under the cover of the UN-mediated Black Sea Grain Deal, an accord that was meant to bolster global food security.

Russia refused to extend the Black Sea deal last week, following its long-time criticism of the UNs failure to facilitate its own grain and fertilizer exports as was required under the agreement.

The decision also came following the July 17 attack on the Crimean bridge with marine surface drones, which killed a couple who were driving across when the blast occurred and wounded their teen daughter.

US, Ukraine No Longer Project Counteroffensive Success, Russia Has Upper Hand

According to the correspondent, the US and Ukrainian military now abstain from making forecasts regarding future success in the counteroffensive because Russia has a clear advantage on the battlefield.

The American and Ukrainian military are no longer making any predictions, the US official was quoted by Hersh as saying. The Ukrainian army has not gotten past the first of three Russian defense lines. Every mine the Ukrainians dig up is replenished at night by the Russians.

The reality, the interlocutor clarified, is that the balance of power in the war is settled. Putin has what he wants.

Ukraine is not capable of returning Crimea, Donetsk, Kherson, Lugansk and the Zaporozhye Region, the official stressed, wh...

The Andean republics of the Pan Amazon "IndyWatch Feed Enviro"

Bolivia, Peru, Ecuador, and Colombia all invested in major highway building initiatives in the last half of the twentieth century, motivated in part to project sovereignty over their Amazonian provinces. These areas had poorly defined borders and societies remembered the trauma of the rubber boom, when Brazilian agents encroached upon their territories or when they quarrelled among themselves over the disposition of their frontiers. Unlike the integrated highway network of Brazil, however, these nations built widely separated roads that connected discreet regions of the highlands with adjacent lowland landscapes. Bolivia Successive governments sought to connect the sparsely populated lowland provinces with the densely populated rural communities of the Altiplano; this policy started in earnest in the 1960s with the construction of all-weather roads to Santa Cruz, the Chapare lowlands of Cochabamba, and the Yungas of La Paz. Subsequently, the military regimes of the 1970s went on a spending spree that led to a default of Bolivias sovereign debt in the 1980s, an outcome that limited the countrys ability to build infrastructure throughout the 1990s. The most prescient investments occurred on the alluvial plain of Santa Cruz, where public and private resources were leveraged with loans and grants from multilateral agencies to create a secondary road network and industrial infrastructure that triggered a geometric increase in deforestation rates between 1990 and 2010. This landscape now supports the most diversified agricultural production in the Pan Amazon and is a pillar of the Bolivian economy; its organic growth is driving the expansion ofThis article was originally published on Mongabay

ESP32 Freezer Alarm Keeps Tabs on Tricky Door "IndyWatch Feed Tech"

Leaving your freezer door open accidentally is a great way to make a huge mess in the kitchen. [Guy Dupont] had a freezer that would regularly fail to close properly, and was sick of the regular meltdown events. Thus, he whipped up a very digital solution.

The build combines an ESP32 with a reed switch, which is activated by a magnet on the freezer door. If the freezer door is open, the reed switch similarly remains open. The ESP32 checks the switch status every few minutes, and if the door remains open for two consecutive checks, it raises the alarm. A notification is sent to [Guy] via WiFi so that he can rectify the situation. The rig runs off a 400 mAh battery, which lasts for just over three weeks running door checks at two minute  intervals.

Based on [Guy]s YouTube video, it appears the freezer door is jamming up against the wall. Perhaps shoving the freezer into a better position would help, though we suspect he would have thought of that first. And, in his own words, That would be a very boring YouTube video, wouldnt it?

Its not the first fridge alarm weve featured, and it wont be the last, refrigeration gods willing.

How an ultra-sensitive on-off switch helps axolotl salamander regrow limbs "IndyWatch Feed World"

It's one of the mysteries of nature: How does the axolotl, a small salamander, boast a superhero-like ability to regrow nearly any part of its body? For years, scientists have studied the amazing regenerative properties of the axolotl to inform wound healing in humans. Now, Stanford Medicine researchers have made a leap forward in understanding what sets the axolotl apart from other animals. Axolotls, they discovered, have an ultra-sensitive protein production. And, like survivalists who fill their basements with non-perishable food for hard times, axolotl cells stockpile messenger RNA molecules, which contain genetic instructions for producing proteins. The combination of an easily activated mTOR molecule and a repository of ready-to-use mRNAs means that after an injury, axolotl cells can quickly produce the proteins needed for tissue regeneration. The new findings were published July 26 in Nature.

Astronomers reveal new features of galactic black holes "IndyWatch Feed Tech"

Black holes are the most mysterious objects in the universe, with features that sound like they come straight from a sci-fi movie.

Stellar-mass with masses of roughly 10 suns, for example, reveal their existence by eating materials from their companion stars. And in some instances, accumulate at the center of some galaxies to form bright compact regions known as quasars with masses equal to millions to billions of our sun. A subset of accreting stellar-mass that can launch jets of highly magnetized plasma are called microquasars.

An international team of scientists, including UNLV astrophysicist Bing Zhang, reports in Nature on a dedicated observational campaign on the galactic microquasar dubbed GRS 1915+105. The team revealed features of a microquasar system that have never before been seen.

Simple Brain Hack Could Boost Learning and Improve Mental Health "IndyWatch Feed Tech"

Adopting a curious mindset over a high-pressure one can enhance memory, according to recent research from Duke University. The study showed that participants who envisioned themselves as a thief planning a heist in a virtual art museum demonstrated better recall of the paintings they encountered than those who imagined executing the heist on the spot while playing the same computer game.

The slight variation in motivations the urgent need to achieve immediate goals versus the curious exploration for future objectives could have significant implications in real-life scenarios. These include incentivizing people to receive a vaccine, prompting action against climate change, and potentially providing new treatments for psychiatric conditions.

The findings were recently published in the Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences.

The Western establishment just gave itself a World Peace and Liberty award "IndyWatch Feed War"

Get a load of who won and presented a new honor thats modestly being compared to the Nobel Peace Prize.

If you havent heard of the World Law Foundation non-profit organization, you could be forgiven. But despite only existing since 2019, it has already created an award described by the Western press as nothing less than the judicial equivalent of the worlds top award for promoting peace.

Wonder where they got that idea, if not from the organization itself. Can anyone just create a think tank and put it in charge of Good luck with that unless, of course, your board is loaded up with establishment heavyweights in which case, people just tell themselves that it must be legit since all these VIPs wouldnt otherwise be involved.

So a few days ago, the humble folks of the World Law Foundation gathered at the United Nations in New York for the World Law Congress. "The Monkey Mind and The Dog of Desire on The Streets of Fire; The Jitterbugging Monkey Mind of The Sad Apocalypse." "IndyWatch Feed World"

 God Poet Transmitting.......

Was it 2013... 14? Somewhere around there it was that I met Mr. Apocalypse for the first time, and... he told me he was going to nail them in public... pull their pants down... literally and metaphorically before the eyes of The World. He said they were going to be exposed in convincing fashion and ruined for all future enterprises against the rest of us. Slow forward to 2023 and now we see it by the day.

We see it in Hunter Biden and The Big Guy. We see it in all the clowns running through the halls of power with seltzer bottles and rubber noses. We see it in the awful films and music. We see it in the street demonstrations of sexual dysfunction... pulling down their own pants in front of The World. By incremental degrees of cluelessness... The World is no longer amused

I was thinking about other periods of time in America... Europe... The Middle East. I was thinking about the periods of depravity that came along now and again... how it reached a level of intensity and... something happened. War? Maybe plague? I imagine it was different each time.

I thought about The Temperance Movement when alcoholism became so problematic in the cities. Drunks were everywhere. Now the Tranq zombies do the latest Thorazine shuffle on The Streets of Philadelphia One bright storm of summer from The Sun... will wash clean all the streets of The World, and... I WILL see that day.

Then I was thinking about men in bars. Men anywhere, seeing a beautiful woman and being drawn... sometimes against their will... sometimes driven by their carnal nature. They don't know the woman at all. Whether they admit it to themselves... they have only one thing in mind. It doesn't matter who she is... what she's like. There's just the urge... the mind captivated by her appearance and proximity.

Their biology is stronger than they are. Stronger than their good sense. Stronger than any impulse to step back and wonder about their intentions... and I was seeing this clearly across the centuries... everything from Helen of Troy to Heloise and Abelard... and all the other poetic pecker tracks on the trail of destruction that lead to and from the scene of the crimes.

The dead and gone that were spawned by a single passion; no different than the road kill that died for the same reason; the mating dance of creatures, and... I was thinking how the whole spectacle just sent me in another direction. If I had to feel th...

European Neolithic family trees provide unprecedented insights into community behavior "IndyWatch Feed World"

The Neolithic burial site of Gurgy 'les Noisats' in France revealed two unprecedentedly large family trees which allowed a Franco-German team to explore the social organization of the 6,700-year-old community. Based on multiple lines of evidence, the team describes a close kin group which practiced monogamy and female exogamy, and experienced generally stable times. The Neolithic lifestyle, based on farming instead of hunting and gathering, emerged in the Near East around 12,000 years ago and contributed profoundly to the modern way of life. The ability to produce and store extra food led Neolithic people to develop new social customs built on wealth, and therefore form social hierarchies. After an early phase of diffusion and having reached regions in western Europe, settled societies became more complex, which is sometimes reflected in the funerary world as well. The Paris Basin region in northern modern-day France is known for its monumental funerary sites, understood as being...

Mystery of 2,000-year-old warrior's grave on the Isles of Scilly finally solved "IndyWatch Feed World"

Now researchers at Historic England believe the grave belonged to a woman The long-running mystery of a prehistoric grave has finally been solved after years of scientific debate. New research led by Historic England has unveiled that a 2,000-year-old Iron Age burial site on the Isles of Scilly actually belonged to a warrior woman. Since its discovery in 1999, archaeologists have mulled back-and-forth over the sex of the individual that possessed both a mirror and a sword. But new evidence suggests this woman may have been a leading figure - perhaps among many other 'hidden' female warriors during the Iron Age. 'Our findings offer an exciting opportunity to re-interpret this important burial,' said Sarah Stark, a human skeletal biologist at Historic England.

BEST OF THE WEB: Washington's looming war against China "IndyWatch Feed World"

Economic Logic has been Replaced by National Security Overrides The July NATO summit in Vilnius had the feeling of a funeral, as if they had just lost a family member - Ukraine. To clear away NATO's failure to drive Russia out of Ukraine and move NATO right up to the Russian border, its members tried to revive their spirits by mobilizing support for the next great fight - against China, which is now designated as their ultimate strategic enemy. To prepare for this showdown, NATO announced a commitment to extend their military presence all the way to the Pacific. The plan is to carve away China's military allies and trading partners, above all Russia, starting with the fight in Ukraine. President Biden has said that this war will be global in scope and will take many decades as it expands to ultimately isolate and break up China. The U.S.-imposed sanctions against trade with Russia are a dress rehearsal for imposing similar sanctions against China. But only the NATO allies have...

5 Essential Tips for Buying Kratom Online: Comprehensive 2023 Guide "IndyWatch Feed World"

Waking Times

Kratom has recently surged in popularity across the United States as well as internationally due to the many health benefits and effects the plant can help treat people with. Many of these potential benefits span pain relief, opiate addiction treatment, relaxation inducement, and even appetite suppression. As more newcomers are being introduced into the world of kratom, it is imperative that they have essential tips when looking to buy kratom powder online. Because there are so many vendors out in the market landscape, we have aggregated a list of the 5 most important things to be on the lookout for when choosing top kratom brands in 2023. By using these 5 tips, you will be able to navigate the vast world of kratom and buy kratom in confidence!

1. Research Reputable Vendors

Reputation and Experience:

First and foremost, it is important that you take some time out of your day to research the kratom vendors that have the products you want. When we look for new kratom vendors to purchase from, we ensure that the kratom vendor is both reputable and transparent. We typically look towards the number of customer reviews, as a ratio of all reviews. To ensure popularity of the vendor, we would also ensure that the kratom vendor has many reviews listed on both their website as well as outside third party sources.

By ensuring that these kratom vendors have had many customer reviews and customer testimonials under its belt, it is safe to assume that the kratom vendor is both reputable as well as experienced within the industry of kratom. We find that choosing the most established kratom vendors is the safest option when looking to buy kratom. By seeking out newly formed kratom vendors, you may have to do more research, but will probably find better deals within the kratom product.

Transparent Product Information:

Most reputable vendors will advertise all of their product information within the website product page as well as within the packaging of the kratom products. Some of these details that are necessary for the kratom products include the type of strain of kratom (which can be based upon vein color or kratom type, such as meng da or bali kratom), where the kratom was sourced (typically within Southeast Asia), how the kratom was harvested, as well as how the kratom was dried to be formed into the kratom powders.

More niche information that is great to have for kratom vendors include the alkaloid contents as well as the benefits of...

In Resistance Training, Focusing on Load or Number of Repetitions Leads to Same Muscle Growth "IndyWatch Feed Tech"

Although the two types of training produce similar metabolic stress, muscle activation is different:

Which kind of resistance training promotes more muscle growth: low load with many repetitions or high load with fewer repetitions? According to a study conducted at the State University of Campinas (UNICAMP) in So Paulo state, Brazil, it makes no difference.

The study lasted eight weeks and involved 18 volunteers in two different training protocols. One group performed high-load (HL) exercises with fewer repetitions, while the other did low-load (LL) exercises with more repetitions. Muscle mass was measured in the first and last exercise sessions. A comparison of the two groups did not show any difference in muscle growth or metabolic stress, measured in an analysis of substances released into the bloodstream by the exercises.

In the HL group, each individual lifted up to 80% of their own weight. In the LL group, the limit was 30%, but they repeated the exercises until their muscles could no longer lift the loads.

[...] "Resistance training is known to promote muscle growth, but it's still not completely clear whether the key to muscle hypertrophy is the load or the number of repetitions. Our study supports the theory that both types have the same effect. We also showed that muscle activation occurs in a different manner in each type, although metabolic stress is the same and the effect on hypertrophy is therefore also the same," said Renato Barroso, a professor at UNICAMP's School of Physical Education.

[...] Although the researchers found no differences in the overall metabolic response, they observed that some metabolites correlated with muscle hypertrophy in both groups. Some of these correlations, they concluded, may be associated with the characteristics of the muscle fibers activated by exercise (type 1 or type 2) as well as the metabolic demands of the training protocols used in the study.

CBDCs: A weapon for debanking the banked "IndyWatch Feed Africa"

In March 2022, President Biden signed an Executive Order directing government agencies to urgently research and develop a potential US central bank digital currency (CBDC) "in a manner that protects Americans' interests." It also encouraged the Federal Reserve Bank to continue doing so. And it isn't just the Biden Administration in the United States working in such a direction. As of the time of writing, CBDCTracker.org lists three countries or regions with retail CBDCs already "launched" (Bahamas, Jamaica and Nigeria), another five in "pilot" stage, and another twenty in "proof of concept" stage. Many more have at least researched wholesale CBDCs. ("Wholesale" CBDCs are intended for commercial and central bank use and the like, while "retail" CBDCs are intended for the rest of us). A report by the Bank for International Settlements (BIS) released just this month summarizes the results of a survey of 86 central banks and concludes that "there could be 15 retail and nine wholesale...

Trial Date Set in Landmark Lawsuit Concerning Wrongful Death During Pandemic Hospitalization "IndyWatch Feed War"

Hospitals Motion to Dismiss Denied Finally A Jury Will Hear Case

By Peter A. McCullough, MD, MPH | Courageous Discourse | July 26, 2023

One of the most important rights stripped from Americans during the pandemic was the 7th amendment right to a jury trial. Devastated families lost loved ones due to therapeutic nihilism in the hospital and in some cases negligent care or even personal injury. Many are disheartened by corrupt courts and judges who dismiss cases out of hand. Finally a case is moving forward thanks to the diligence of Scott Schara, father of the late Grace Schara. Grace had Downs syndrome and died of respiratory depression after she was given three sedatives in the setting of acute COVID-19 pneumonia.

That Other War: Struggle and Suffering in Sudan "IndyWatch Feed Africa"

Peace activists in South Sudan

By Priti Gulati Cox and Stan Cox, TomDispatch, July 27, 2023

Its been devastating, even if no ones paying attention.

Three months of fighting in Sudan between the army and a paramilitary group called the Rapid Support Force (RSF) has left at least 3,000 people dead and wounded at least 6,000 more. Over two million people have been displaced within the country, while another 700,000 have fled to neighboring nations. According to the World Health Organization, two-thirds of the health facilities in Khartoum, the capital, and other combat zones are now out of service, so the numbers of dead and injured are believed to be far higher than recorded, and bodies have been rotting for days in the streets of the capital, as well as in the towns and villages of the Darfur region.

Almost all foreign nationals, including diplomats and embassy staff, are long gone and so, according to Al Jazeera, hundreds or thousands of Sudanese who had visa applications pending have instead found themselves marooned in the crossfire with their passports locked away inside now-abandoned embassies. In the Darfur region, according to non-Arab tribal leaders, the RSF and local Arab militias have been carrying out mass killings, raping women and girls, and looting and burning homes and hospitals. Earlier this month, United Nations humanitarian chief Martin Griffiths...

Translocation hurdles prompt new efforts to save rare swamp deer in Nepal "IndyWatch Feed Enviro"

KATHMANDU, Nepal In June 2021, officials at Nepals Chitwan National Park said that an animal had been missing for five months. The missing animal was no ordinary one; it was a rare deer translocated from its home hundreds of kilometers away. The missing swamp deer (Rucervus duvaucelii), also known as barashinghe (or barsingha) for its fabled 12-point antlers (which can even exceed 12), was the last member of a herd translocated from Shuklaphanta National Park in western Nepal,  which, together with neighboring Bardiya National Park, is the last remaining habitat of the animal believed to have once roamed the entire Terai Arc Landscape in Nepal and India along with the greater one-horned rhino and wild buffaloes. Of the seven barasinghe translocated to Chitwan, officials recovered the bodies of six animals that had died. But the body of the lone survivor was never recovered, and was presumed dead. The deaths, which halted the entire translocation program with a goal of moving 25 animals and cast a shadow over efforts to save the isolated population of the animals, was already facing a host of threats. But as translocation  which is key to the species survival may require more careful consideration and study, there are other measures that can be taken to save the swamp deer, a recent study suggests. The swamp deer (Rucervus duvaucelii) is also known as barashinghe (or barsingha) for its fabled 12-point antlers (which can even exceed 12). Crackdown on 'unconventional clothing'

Iran's cyber police, commonly known by its Farsi acronym FATA, have arrested 12 individuals involved in producing and selling what authorities have deemed "unconventional clothing," according to a report by Iran Labour Agency.

Davoud Moazami Goudarzi, head of FATA, said on Monday that the detainees used 15 separate Instagram accounts with over 800,000 followers to market their garments.

Since widespread anti-government protests broke out in September after the death of 22-year-old Mahsa Amini in police custody, authorities have blocked access to Instagram.

The need to balance fear with hope "IndyWatch Feed Nthamerica"

When I need to learn how to do something around the house or with the computer, I will go to the internet and will frequently find a video on YouTube that gives instructions on what to do and those are usually helpful. But I only do this for things that are relatively minor. I can tell when I am getting out of my depth and need to call in a real expert.

But the easy availability of self-help videos can mislead us into thinking that that is sufficient even for major tasks and lead to tragic consequences, when people think that they can use that information for life-changing decisions. This is apparently what happened to three people who died in the wilderness of Colorado in their attempt to live off the grid.

A Colorado family whose partially mummified remains were discovered at a remote campsite were trying to live off the grid and escape civilization, family said.

Authorities have identified the bodies as those of sisters Christine Vance, 41, and Rebecca Vance, 42, as well as Rebeccas 14-year-old son. The remains were recovered in and around a tent near a campsite in the Gunnison National Forest about 9 miles (14.5km) from Ohio City, Colorado, Michael Barnes, the Gunnison county coroner, said Tuesday.

The womens stepsister, Trevala Jara, told media that the family set off for the remote area last summer, seeking to escape the world. The sisters did not have survival experience and had only done research online and watched YouTube videos on the subject.

We tried to stop them, Jara told the Gazette. But they wouldnt listen. Their minds were made up.

It appeared they had begun to build a lean-to type shelter but not finished by the time last years harsh winter began, he said.

I wonder if winter came on quickly and suddenly they were just in survival mode in the tent, Barnes said. They had a lot of literature with them about outdoor survival and foraging and stuff like that. But it looked like they supplied at a grocery store.

Jara, the familys relative, said that the sisters were worried about the state of the world, and that Rebeccas concerns were magnified by the pandemic.

The fear overwhelmed her, most definitely, Jara said of her sister in an interview with the Washington Post.

Christine Vance ultimately joined her sister and nephew so that the pair wouldnt be alone, Jara told the newspaper. Her sisters were not crazy and felt what they were doing was right, she said, but they were not prepared.

You need years of practice before you go off the grid, Jara said in the interview. They watched some YouTube videos, but doing it is totally different if you have no experience.

It is just so sad that people take drastic actions without fully being awa...

Boning Up on the Unique Genetics of the Human Skeletal System "IndyWatch Feed Tech"

Humans have a distinctive skeleton, and are the only bipedal great apes (the great ape species are bonobos, chimpanzees, gorillas, orangutans, and humans). While the evolution of the human skeleton enabled us to walk upright, it also led to the rise of musculoskeletal disease. Its thought that cognitive development began to accelerate in humans once we started to move around, adapt to new environments, and make use of tools. Researchers have now used advanced computational tools and a trove of human genetic data in the UK Biobank to outline the genetic changes that occurred as primates started to walk upright for the first time.

These findings, which were reported in Science, have suggested that natural selection had a strong influence on the genetic changes that altered our anatomy, and gave early humans an evolutionary leg up.

Schools Out for Summer! "IndyWatch Feed Nthamerica"

Hello folks!

Schools officially out since last Friday and I can tell you. Im very fine mush. First of all, the last two weeks are some of the hardest, contrary to popular belief. For one thing, my school wisely decided to turn those last two weeks into project weeks under the Education for Sustainable Development goals of the UN, which are so broad that you can basically do whatever you want (though each year has one topic they need to touch).

I absolutely love those weeks. Instead of watching one movie after the other because the grade are written and the books have been collected, we do fun things that are really, really good for our underprivileged kids: visiting the library, the zoo, planting, painting, It also means long days, not just for the projects, but also for the conferences at the end of the year, but lots of activities outdoors, with a pretty heatwave (that thankfully broke this week). As a result a bone deep physical exhaustion came on top of a bone deep psychological one.

You may remember that after my teacher training, I basically stumbled into special ed. I discovered that I like it and that Im good at it and that I could imagine staying there. Unfortunately, the ministry of education claims that theres no shortage of special ed teachers, I was just filling a temporary vacancy. For 5 years in the same school I kept trying, the union kept trying, but the last phone call with the nice woman from the ministry made it clear that while I could probably always get a temporary contract, Id not get a permanent one. But shed send out a new temporary one. That was weeks ago, I kept waiting. Now, since I didnt go to university for nothing, I kept applying for the regular teacher jobs, though me and my fellow totally only temporary long term regular ed turned special ed colleagues suspected that the two departments were keeping us in a loop.

On Monday I got a mail from the department overseeing regular teacher placements that they have (another temporary) position for me. It would have been at a comprehensive school quite near, which doesnt only have a bit less underprivileged clientele, but which also would knock off 2/3rds of my commute. But, you know theres always a but, they also have a joined high school branch* with the school my kids go to, the high school branch my kid enters next year, a high school branch Im qualified to teach. Also, I like my school and I know that the principal there is fighting tooth and nail to keep me. Give her another year and the ministry will give me a permanent contract just to get rid of her. Thats an asset you dont give up easily, so i texted her that unless she was able to work a miracle, I would have to take the offer. Well, she did work a miracle, I could switch with a teacher who was due to start at my school. So good...

Ending military aid to Ukraine would surpass Afghanistan debacle, says former US Ambassador "IndyWatch Feed War"

By Ahmed Adel | July 27, 2023

An eventual refusal by US President Joe Biden to support Ukraine would represent a significant failure that would even surpass the Afghanistan troop withdrawal debacle, according to John Herbst, former US Ambassador to Kiev. His comments were made to the Wall Street Journal, which reported that the sluggish pace of Ukraines failed counteroffensive could raise questions about future military aid to the Eastern European country. However, it can be argued that Bidens decision to support Ukraine is the greatest blunder in the US modern geopolitical history.

The newspaper pointed out that due to Washingtons strategy of not straying from the course, Biden made himself vulnerable as he became dependent on the outcome of the conflict in Ukraine, which he falsely framed as a battle between authoritarianism and democracy. The Ukrainian militarys failed counteroffensive has crushed all hopes that the fighting will end this year, at least on Kievs terms.

According to US officials interviewed by the American outlet, a long and indefinite conflict creates risks, especially as a potential stalemate could test the US presidents stated strategy to provide Ukraine with military support to start negotiations, where Kiev will speak from a position of strength.

Halting arms supplies or even accepting a partial victory for Russia would represent a significant failure in U.S. foreign policy, surpassing the scale of the Afghanistan troop withdrawal debacle, according to Herbst.

The newspaper notes that potential Republican candidates with the best chances of being nominated by the party former President Donald Trump and Florida Governor Ron DeSantis were the instigators of Ukraines declining support among the American people.

In addition, another problem faced by the US is the lack of critical weapons. This led to the delivery of cluster munitions to the Ukrainian Army. This hypocritical move demonstrated the desperation of the Ukrainian military when considering Biden made threats if Russia used cluster munitions.

The newspaper also cited an unnamed senior European official saying that Washington does not expect the Ukrainian military to capture embattled Donetsk, Kherson, Luhansk, Zaporozhye, and Crimea fully. This follows up from a previous report that even though Western military officials knew Ukraine did not have all the training or weapons needed to push back Russian forces, they hoped that Ukrainian courage and resourcefulness would carry the day.

It calls to question why the US and its allies continue to pour billions of dollars into Ukraine and maintain sanctions that are now affecting their own economies worse......

Biden Makes Push to Help Improve Access to Mental Health Services "IndyWatch Feed Nthamerica"

There is a deep divide between physical and mental health in the US, not just in terms of how people talk about it but also in the way treatment is available (or not) and sought out (or not). Now, the White House is trying to bridge that gap by achieving greater parity between how physical and mental health are covered.

Americans have always viewed physical injuries almost like a badge of honor. Back in the day, if you needed a cast for a broken limb, youd get your family and friends to sign it. In the digital age, without a second thought, people post on social media when they sprain an ankle or worse.

And, of course, if such an injury requires treatment, they go to see a doctor and post another selfie from there as well.

It is an entirely different story when it comes to mental health. Even though 90 percent of Americans believe the country is in a mental health crisis, few of them talk about their own struggles. In fact, they conceal them from their loved ones, even though it might help to talk about them. As a result, problems like depression or anxiety often remain hidden. And, if they even seek treatment, Americans dont generally post selfies from their therapists offices because there is still a stigma attached to mental health problems.

Another obstacle is that treatment for them is more difficult to come by. And that is something the current administration is trying to change.

Earlier this week, President Joe Biden announced a plan that would force private insurers to cover mental health services the same way as physical health. Technically, they are already supposed to according to a 2008 law. However, private insurance providers often do not abide by it.

That is about to change if the White House gets its way.

Right now, for millions of Americans, mental health care and treatment for substance abuse is out of reach, Biden said on Tuesday.

He noted that less than half of all adults diagnosed with a mental illness, i.e., those who sought treatment, also received care for it. In addition, nearly 70 percent of children who seek help for addiction or mental health issues cannot get it.

That is why the administration is proposing...

Judge Gets It Right in Hunter Biden Plea Deal "IndyWatch Feed Nthamerica"

Hunter Biden on Wednesday pled not guilty to two misdemeanor tax charges after a federal judge nixed the plea deal the presidents son had reached with prosecutors.

The main sticking point was that the two sides could not agree on whether Hunter Biden would be immune from future charges related to the investigation into his business dealings. His lawyers thought that he should be, while prosecutors and Judge Maryellen Noreika disagreed.

Good for them! It seems pretty outrageous to grant somebody like the presidents son, who appears to have used his name for various money-making schemes, blanket immunity for anything.

If that had happened, Republicans actually would have had a case for saying that Hunter Biden got a sweetheart deal. Therefore, in light of the previously undisclosed scope of the plea deal, this certainly appears to be a victory for the rule of law.

Not that this will stop the GOP from loudly claiming that there is a two-tiered justice system that lets anybody named Biden skate free while an honest, law-abiding citizens like former President Donald Trump is subjected to witch hunts for stealing classified documents and flashing them around Mar-a-Lago, fraud, obstruction of justice, starting an insurrection, corruption, making false statements, sexually assaulting women, etc.

And it certainly wont stop the GOP from focusing all of their energy on getting Hunter Biden. If you stop to think about it, its pretty crazy to what lengths they are going to make a private citizens life miserable even one who seems to be a scumbag.

Prior to Wednesdays hearing, for example, Republican lawmakers tried to torpedo the plea agreement. Although they got their desired result, it seems the judges objections were unrelated to their efforts.

That doesnt mean that Hunter Biden should walk free for any crimes he committed. He absolutely should not. And, if his business dealings were merely shady and not illegal, then these tax charges might be the best way to make sure there is a semblance of accountability.

In that sense, the example of the presidents son does show that there is a two-tiered justice system. But its not about his last name but rather that he is a wealthy white man who can afford high-priced lawyers to get him off the hook for his various schemes.

If his name were DAndre Washington and his hustles involved a few hundred bucks instead of millions of dollars, he would probably be in greater legal peril.

Therefore, it would be great if the De...

YouTube Rippers Appeal of RIAAs $83 Million Piracy Win Moves Forward "IndyWatch Feed Tech"

youtube sad errorIn 2021, the RIAA secured a major victory in its piracy lawsuit against YouTube-rippers FLVTO.biz and 2conv.com, and their Russian operator Tofig Kurbanov.

A Virginia federal court issued a default judgment in favor of the RIAA, which represented several prominent music companies.

Following this win, the RIAA demanded $83 million in damages for the widespread copyright infringement that allegedly took place through the sites. The request was met with heavy opposition from Mr. Kurbanov, but last year it was granted nonetheless.

The RIAA, which described the legal battle as a landmark case, was happy with the outcome. As it stands, it will act as a deterrent against similar stream-rippers and other potentially infringing sites. However, the case is not over just yet.

$83 Million Appeal

While Mr. Kurbanov previously walked away from the U.S. court battle, he may choose to keep on fighting. In a new filing submitted yesterday, a challenge against the piracy liability ruling and damages award was docketed at the Court of Appeals for the Fourth Circuit.

appeal docketed

The appeal doesnt come as a complete surprise. More than a year ago, Kurbanovs legal team already signaled their intention to challenge the verdict. A notice of appeal was filed in March 2022, but it took more than a year before the case was formally docketed.

TorrentFreak reached out to the defenses team for a comment on their plans, but they didnt immediately reply. Since quite a bit of time has passed, and considering Kurbanovs previous change of heart regarding U.S. courts, anything could happen.

Questions Remain, Traffic Slides

Last year, defense lawyer Val Gurvits informed us that his client intended to challenge the fact that the sites are being held liable for millions of dollars in damages, without having to present concrete evidence of copyright infringements that allegedly took place in the United States.

The Israeli parliament has been accused of passing a "racist" piece of legislation that would see Palestinian citizens of Israel screened from living in almost half of the country's small villages and towns.

The so-called "admissions committees" law passed on Tuesday would strengthen a controversial 2011 piece of legislation that allows those same panels - made up of members of the local community - to screen applicants for housing units and plots of land in hundreds of Jewish Israeli "community towns" built on state land.

Human rights campaigners have stressed that this is aimed at giving small Jewish communities the power to prevent Palestinians from buying or renting homes. There are almost two million Palestinian citizens of Israel, who are estimated to make up 20 percent of the country's population.

The law does not officially allow the committe...

Live There, Got the T-Shirt "IndyWatch Feed Nthamerica"

Its almost impossible to talk about Winnipeg, Manitoba, without talking about its inferiority complex. When I first moved here, by choice, in 2008, people would always ask me, Why? Why would you do such a thing? Why would you move here?

Over the next few years, I had fun attempting to answer this question on my blog, alongside two other close friends who had decided to give Winnipeg a try. Bringing our positive, curious, and upbeat lens to civic life in a notoriously self-loathing place led to all sorts of fun experiences and even what we felt could be 15 minutes of local fame

We wrote about interesting local expressions, pronunciations, and practices. We compared systems here to the ones we had been used to in the places wed previously lived. That first summer we even got invited by a local radio station to determine the best restaurant patio in the city and do in-studio reports on our research. We were mostly writing the blog for ourselves, and it was nuts to us that our takes were so novel and unexpected that anyone else was interested.

After a few years, my unbridled enthusiasm for Winnipeg had definitely waned, for several reasons. Becoming a parent had jostled my rose-colored glasses and I could now see a little more clearly the way that people in the city were struggling. This intensified when we decided to sell our car and get around primarily by bus, bike, and walking. Meeting other people who wanted a better city was a blessing and a curse: a feeling of finding my people but also having too many discussions about how unhappy our city was making us.

And so it was, that when I walked into a spring market a couple of months ago and saw a T-shirt that read I dont NOT love Winnipeg, I knew I had to have it.

Niger soldiers declare coup on national TV, US Sec Blinken expresses support for captured President Bazoum "IndyWatch Feed Africa"

A coup has been declared on national television by soldiers in Niger, a West African country. They have announced the dissolution of the constitution, the suspension of all institutions, and the closure of national borders. Niger's President, Mohamed Bazoum, has been held by troops from the presidential guard since early Wednesday. In response to the situation, US Secretary of State Antony Blinken assured President Bazoum of Washington's unwavering support during a phone call. Similarly, UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres expressed full support to the president after speaking with him. President Bazoum has been a crucial ally to Western nations in combating militancy in West Africa. The region has witnessed coups in neighboring countries, Mali and Burkina Faso, due to uprisings in recent years. In both instances, the new military leaders had strained relations with France, the former colonial power that also once ruled Niger.

Summary: Elon Musk is trying to accelerate the death of Twitter*; now hes just blatantly hijacking users accounts, changing the names of everything without any consultation (the police got called into Twitters headquarters this week), and it seems safe to predict little of that site (whatever its called) will be left next year; deep in debt and still losing a lot of money each month (not even counting the cost of interest on the debt), Twitter is dead man walking or insolvent (but in denial about it)

THE video above mostly deals with the x.org/x.com situation because some lawyers are (in their words!) 100% certain there are trademark disputes/lawsuits on the way. There is also lots of confusion. As XRevan86 explained, I saw a hyperlink to Twitter on a website and it made me think about how that would look like if it were X. Completely unclear and way too close to a button to close a pop-up advert or something.

But wait, theres already another new scandal, which will be covered using reports in our Daily Links. Mr. Musk is now hijacking long-held Twitter handles of people, just like Freenode/Andrew Lee did two years ago with IRC channels (Twitters Joseon Moment is what weve dubbed it). Still, freenode hijacks were an order of magnitude worse, XRevan86 asserts, due to the scale and the prospect of impostering. Remember the time Freenode flushed out the whole database, allowing people to register other peoples nicknames and channels?

Nearly 40 years ago, a federal appeals court ruled that Alabama officials could not jail people in mental health crisis who were sent to the state for help. Jailing people going through the states civil commitment process, the court decided, amounted to punishment. And about 30 years ago, after Kentucky was labeled the worst state in the nation for jailing mentally ill people without charges, legislators there banned it.

But a new survey of counties and an analysis of jail dockets in Mississippi, which has no such law, has found that people going through the civil commitment process for mental illness are regularly jailed as they await evaluation and treatment, even when they havent been charged with a crime. Some counties routinely hold such people in jail people awaiting treatment for mental illness or substance abuse were held in jail without charges at least 2,000 times from 2019 to 2022 in 19 counties alone, sometimes for days or weeks.

Nationally, Mississippi is a stark outlier. Mississippi Today and ProPublica conducted a nationwide survey of disability advocacy organizations and state agencies that oversee behavioral health. None described anything close to the scale of whats happening in Mississippi.

Civil commitment laws are meant to ensure people get treatment even when they dont recognize that they need it, said James Tuck...

When sheriffs department staff in Mississippis Benton County took Jimmy Sons into custody several years ago, they followed their standard protocol for people charged with a crime: They took his mug shot, fingerprinted him, had him change into an orange jumpsuit and locked him up.

But Sons, who was then 20 years old, had not been charged with a crime. Earlier that day, his father, James Sons, had gone to a county office to ask that his youngest son be taken in for a mental evaluation and treatment. Jimmy Sons had threatened to hurt family members and himself, and his father had come across him sitting on his bed with a loaded shotgun.

On Sons booking form, in the spot where jailers usually record criminal charges, was a single word: LUNACY.

Three Marine lance corporals from Camp Lejeune found dead in a vehicle Sunday morning outside a North Carolina store died of carbon monoxide poisoning, officials said Wednesday. Deputies found the bodies around 9 a.m. Sunday in the parking lot of a Hampstead convenience store, about one hour from the military training facility. The deputies were responding to a missing person report, the Pender County Sheriff's Office said. The office had received a phone call on Sunday morning from a woman who said her son, a Marine, had failed to arrive on a flight to Oklahoma the night before. Later that morning, deputies found the body of the missing Marine, along with those of the two other Marines, inside the vehicle. Autopsies performed Wednesday by the office of the North Carolina Medical Examiner revealed all the deaths were due to carbon monoxide poisoning, Pender County officials said. No further details about the circumstances of their deaths were given.

Thousands of Chromebooks Are 'Expiring,' Forcing Schools to Toss Them Out "IndyWatch Feed Tech"

Thousands of Chromebooks Are 'Expiring,' Forcing Schools to Toss Them Out:

As thin, light, and inexpensive as Chromebooks can be, they come with a major caveat: short life expectancies. Chromebooks aren't just a little flimsier than the average laptopthey're shipped with software "death dates" that render them useless three to six years after release. And because schools are some of Chromebooks' biggest customers, they're now swamped with bricked hardware.

The Chromebook crisis is apparent at northern California's Oakland Unified School District (OUSD), where thousands of laptops have reportedly stopped working. Sam Berg, the district's computer science coordinator, told Silicon Valley's Mercury News that while Oakland students can gain tech repair experience through an OUSD internship, the expired Chromebooks simply aren't fixable. "They're designed to be disposable," Berg said.

The district was forced to replace 3,851 laptops last year after the Chromebooks reached their built-in death dates. Over the next five years, that number will skyrocket to 40,000 as more than 60 Chromebook models expire. The district's tech internship for teenagers will attempt to salvage as much hardware as possible, but most will need to be recycled.

Google told OUSD the baked-in death dates are necessary for security and compatibility purposes. As Google continues to iterate on its Chromebook software, older devices supposedly can't handle the updates. But this illustrates a particularly contentious issue in modern technology: planned obsolescence. From smartphones and computers to printers and even kitchen appliances, consumers have learned to purchase things with the knowledge that they'll need to be replaced in just a few years. Not only is this expensive, but it produces a shocking amount of e-waste, less than a quarter of which is recycled.

Also submitted as: Built-in software 'death dates' are sending thousands of schools' Chromebooks to the recycling bin

US suffering another medication shortage: penicillin - amid record number of syphilis cases "IndyWatch Feed World"

A shortage of penicillin to treat a skyrocketing number of syphilis cases is so dire that US health officials are debating the need to declare a public health emergency, according to people familiar with the matter. Major US medical centers are rationing the recommended treatment for the deadly sexually transmitted disease because of a supply crunch. From Michigan to Missouri to Texas, some health-care providers are prioritizing giving a key treatment penicillin G benzathine to pregnant patients and babies, because the drug can pass through the placenta and also treat the fetus. Syphilis has been sickening more people over the last few years, but the latest surge in cases has been especially worrying to the federal government. The incident happened weeks after OConnor cancelled a planned concert in Jerusalem in June 1997, organised by Palestinian and Israeli women to promote the idea of the city as a shared capital. The death threats were claimed by Jewish supremacist group the Ideological Front.

Study explains link to increased cardiovascular risks for people with obstructive sleep apnea "IndyWatch Feed Tech"

Researchers have found that people with obstructive sleep apnea have an increased cardiovascular risk due to reduced blood oxygen levels, largely explained by interrupted breathing. Obstructive sleep apnea has long been associated with increased risk of cardiovascular issues, including heart attack, stroke, and death, but the findings from this study, published in the American Journal of Respiratory and Critical Care Medicine, show the mechanism mostly responsible for the link.

These findings will help better characterize high-risk versions of obstructive , said Ali Azarbarzin, Ph.D., a study author and director of the Sleep Apnea Health Outcomes Research Group at Brigham and Womens Hospital and Harvard Medical School, obstructive sleep apnea in a would hopefully show that treating sleep apnea could help prevent future cardiovascular outcomes.

Researchers reviewed data from more than 4,500 middle-aged and older adults who participated in the Osteoporotic Fractures in Men Study (MrOS) and the Multi-Ethnic Study of Atherosclerosis (MESA), and sought to identify features of obstructive sleep apnea that could explain why some people were more likely than others to develop cardiovascular disease or related death.

How the Microbiome Influences Immunity in Drosophila "IndyWatch Feed Tech"

Antimicrobial peptides (AMPs)small peptides that protect against microbial infectionare crucial immune effectors in both plants and animals. They not only fight against potential infections, they also influence the composition of the hosts microbiome. Little is known about the driving forces behind AMPs rapid evolution. Now, a study uncovers the selective pressures driving the evolution of AMPs and how they control bacteria in the hosts microbiome.

The work is published in Science in the paper, Ecology-relevant bacteria drive the evolution of host antimicrobial peptides in Drosophila.

The researchers focused on Diptericin (Dpt), a small antimicrobial peptide that mainly defends Drosophila against Gram-negative bacteria. The team examined how Diptericins function in Drosophila and evolve in response to their microbial environment.

Maternal Deaths Are Expected to Rise Under Abortion Bans, but the Increase May Be Hard to Measure "IndyWatch Feed Nthamerica"

ProPublica is a nonprofit newsroom that investigates abuses of power. Sign up to receive our biggest stories as soon as theyre published.

Since the Supreme Court overturned Roe v. Wade last year, doctors have warned that limiting abortion care will make pregnancy more dangerous in a country that already has the highest maternal mortality rate among industrialized nations.

The case of Mylissa Farmer, a Missouri woman, is one example. Last August, her water broke less than 18 weeks into her pregnancy, when her fetus was not viable. She was at risk for developing a life-threatening infection if she continued the pregnancy. Yet during three separate visits to emergency rooms, she was denied abortion care because her fetus still had a heartbeat. Doctors specifically cited the states new abortion law in her medical records and said they could not intervene until her condition worsened. She eventually traveled to Illinois for care.

Even for people who dont develop sudden life-threatening complications, doctors note that carrying a pregnancy to term is inherently risky because rapid physical and hormonal changes can exacerbate chronic health conditions and trigger new complications. If more people are forced to continue unwanted pregnancies, there are bound to be more pregnancy-related deaths: A study by the University of Colorado estimates a 24% increase in maternal deaths if the United States bans abortion federally. They predicted the increase would be even higher for Black patients, at 39%. Currently, 14 states have total abortion bans.

Additionally, when abortion is illegal, it makes the procedure more dangerous for those who still try to terminate their pregnancies. The World Health Organization found that unsafe or illegal abortions account for up to 10% of maternal deaths worldwide.

Locked and Loaded: How Often Should You Clean An AR-15 2023 Guide "IndyWatch Feed World"

Armed forces, law enforcement, and civilian users often use the AR-15 as a staple firearm. The importance of proper cleaning and maintenance of your arms is a necessary stride.

It is advisable for you to clean your AR-15 after a few thousand rounds have been shot through it; moreover, you also want to take good care of such a significant and expensive investment.

Cleaning an AR-15 doesnt have to be a difficult or lengthy task. It could be accomplished rather fast and is a reasonably straightforward task. Understanding the significance of basic maintenance is essential for responsible gun owners who want to keep their weapons reliable and durable.

Finding the right balance between excessive cleaning and carelessness necessitates a thorough knowledge of the weapons function, the surrounding environment, and individual usage habits.

Types of AR-15 variants

Its crucial to understand the distinctions between the two AR-15 variants.  There are two types of systems: direct impingement and piston-operated.

The direct impingement system is the most popular platform for the AR-15 that is currently on the market. The bulk of gasses and the bolt in this system escape through the barrel when the trigger is pushed while the bolt is in the forward lock position.

There is a gas lock that ascends and returns to the action region inside the gas tube.

The bolt carrier can acquire a fresh cartridge and advance once again after being forced backward by the bolts when released.

A piston-operated system, on the other hand, operates differently. This technique uses a piston that gasses push against rather than letting gasses return all the way to the action. The piston drives the bolt backward; as a result, enabling its forward motion and subsequent cycle.

The Pandelusion "IndyWatch Feed War"

BY HUGH WILLBOURN | THE DAILY SCEPTIC | JULY 24, 2023
my new book, The Bug in our Thinking. In it I quote Carl Sagan from 1996:

Weve arranged a society based on science and technology, in which nobody understands anything about science and technology. And this combustible mixture of ignorance and power, sooner or later, is going to blow up in our faces. Who is running the science and technology in a democracy if the people dont know anything about it?

Science is more than a body of knowledge, its a way of thinking. A way of sceptically interrogating the universe with a fine understanding of human fallibility. If we are not able to ask sceptical questions, to interrogate those who tell us that something is true, to be sceptical of those in authority, then were up for grabs for the next charlatan, political or religious, who comes ambling along.

Sagan was on the money. Every day brings news of more absurdities from charlatans in science, education, politics and media. To quote myself, from the same book: Never have so many been so wrong about so much.

Why is this happening?

If I could answer that in a couple of paragraphs I would not have had to write a whole book. Here, I will focus on just one element. Underneath all the dangerous and troubling beliefs about gender, climate, race, migration, medicine and vaccination lies a psychological problem. Too many people believe things that are not true. This is the new normal. Lets call it the Pandelusion.

The Pandelusion thinking and doing the right thing is the worldview relentlessly promoted by most of the media and driven by bad science and big money.

This doesnt require a conspiracy by the way. That is just what the profit motive will do when untrammelled by conscience or virtue. For the controlling minority of society it is extremely lucrative to promote the Pandelusion. For the majority, the result is an expensive, destructive, disempowering rip-off.

It would take an encyclopaedia to itemise and refute each of the delusions one at a time. In fact it already has. On websites and Substacks and in books and scholarly journals millions of words have been written refuting every one of the dominant delusions with rational argumen...

All Island Rail Review has been published but will it hit the buffers? "IndyWatch Feed Politics.eu"

Regional and rural interventions rail map from All Island Rail Review
Capacity enhancements and some new lines from the All Island Rail Review

Yes, Im cynical.  You cant entirely blame me.

There is some great stuff in the All-Island Rail Review, published on Tuesday, including some blue sky thinking.  The summary, with my annotations, is below.

Short term and decarbonisation

  • Electrify remainder of Belfast-Dublin line, Belfast-Bangor, Dublin-Cork/Galway/Limerick/Waterford (both companies were already working on plans to abolish diesel traction, but NIR I think also intends to electrify the Larne, Portrush and Derry/Londonderry (hereafter referred to as Derry) lines)
  • Increase line speeed to 100mph (currently 90mph or less except the Cork line)
  • Hourly service to Cork (already there), Belfast, Cork, Limerick, Galway and Waterford
  • Through trains Cork-Limerick-Galway with alterations at Limerick Junction (connection to Limerick line is currently only from the bay platform)
  • Direct trains Belfast-Portrush (happens during the summer, but there are capacity constraints on the branch)
  • Spur from Foynes line to Shannon Airport
  • Reopen Lisburn-Antrim with halt at Belfast International Airport [no Circle Line? Ed] (Local commuter is apparently out of scope, but well come back to that)

The work to reopen the Foynes line and proposal to reopen M3 Parkway-Navan Junction are noted.

Intercity developments

  • New 125mph line Newry-Lisburn-Belfast (presumably using something like the alignment of Knockmore-Banbridge line then a new alignment to Newry, but that was not a fast line but where do you put a new line from Lisburn to Belfast? Portadown is too constrained to start a new line there.)

Somalia and Russia Sign Debt Relief Agreement "IndyWatch Feed Africa"

The government of Somalia announced today that it has signed an agreement with Russia to forgive more than $684 million in debt owed by the Russian government to Somalia.

The agreement was signed in Saint Petersburg, Russia, by the Minister of Finance of Somalia, Biihi Iman Cige, and the Deputy Minister of Finance of Russia, Timur Igorevich Maksimov.

This is a historic day for Somalia, said Minister Cige. The debt forgiveness agreement will allow us to focus on the future and build a better future for our people.

The debt forgiveness agreement is also a sign of the growing cooperation between Russia and Somalia. The two countries have been working together to strengthen their economic ties in recent years.

We are committed to working with Somalia to build a brighter future for the Somali people, said Deputy Minister Maksimov. The debt forgiveness agreement is a symbol of our commitment to this partnership.

The debt forgiveness agreement is the latest step in Somalias efforts to achieve debt relief. In 2020, Somalia was declared eligible for debt relief under the Heavily Indebted Poor Countries (HIPC) Initiative. The HIPC Initiative is a program that provides debt relief to countries that have met certain economic and social criteria.

Somalia is expected to receive official decision on debt relief from the Executive Committee of the International Monetary Fund (IMF) at the end of this year. The debt relief will significantly reduce Somalias debt burden and free up resources for the government to invest in its people and economy.

How To Determine Fair Market Value For Your Used Equipment "IndyWatch Feed World"

With regards to selling or purchasing used equipment, understanding its honest evaluation is crucial. Precisely assessing the value of your hardware can be the moment of truth in your capacity to arrange a great understanding.

This article will take you through evaluating the fair market value of your used equipment. It will inform you about Equipment Appraisal. Whether youre a business owner, an individual seller, or a buyer, these expert insights and tips will help you make informed decisions.

Determining The Fair Market Value

Source: corpinvest.com

Before getting into the cycles for deciding on honest evaluation, it is vital to characterize honest evaluation. The accurate assessment is the cost at which the gear would be traded between a willing purchaser and a willing merchant. The two of them should have sensible information on the essential realities. They should not be feeling the squeeze to trade. It shows the most probable cost for these in a free and cutthroat market.

Research Recent Sales Of Similar Products

To start, investigate ongoing deals of comparable handed-down things in your industry. Search for something that matches your make, model, age, and condition. Online business sectors sell off locales, and particular discussions are extraordinary ways of getting data. Dissect the information to decide the evaluation range for your thing.

Consider Equipment Condition And Age

Your hardwares quality and age are significant in assessing its honest evaluation. For the most part, keeping up with hardware with everything looking great will incur a more noteworthy cost than more established or worn things. Think about the mileage, support history, and hours utilized.

Check Market Demand And Trends

Analyze the current market demand for the thing youre selling. Market interest patterns can affect honest evaluation. The worth is likely higher if there are areas of strength for the item and a confined stockpile. Oversupply or unfortunate interest, on the opposite side, may bring about lower valuing.

DIY vs. Professional Car Wrapping: Making the Right Choice for Your Business 2023 Guide "IndyWatch Feed World"

Car wrapping has become a popular medium for businesses of all sizes to advertise their products and services. With the growth of the gig economy and the rise in entrepreneurship, the need to stand out and make a lasting impression on potential customers is more critical than ever.

Car wrapping offers an effective and cost-efficient solution to this challenge, providing businesses with a mobile billboard that showcases their brand wherever they go.

The evolution of car wrapping can be traced back to the 1990s when German taxi companies started using adhesive vinyl to make their vehicles more noticeable. Fast forward to today, businesses worldwide are exploiting this advertising medium to promote their brands and reach a wider audience.

The impact of car wrapping on business visibility and promotion is enormous. As per a recent survey, a single vehicle wrap can generate between 30,000 to 70,000 daily impressions. This level of exposure can greatly increase brand recognition and boost sales.

What is Car Wrapping: A Brief Overview

Source: pexels.com

Car wrapping refers to the process of applying large sheets of vinyl film to a vehicles body. The primary purpose of a car wrap is to change the cars appearance by adding designs, logos, or promotional messages.

Vinyl is the material of choice for car wrapping due to its durability and flexibility. It comes in a variety of finishes, including matte, satin, gloss, and metallic, allowing businesses to fully customize their vehicles look to reflect their brand.

Furthermore, vinyl wraps protect the original paintwork from UV damage, minor scratches, and chips, which can be a significant advantage for businesses using leased vehicles.

UTV Winching Techniques: Tips For Safe And Effective Recovery "IndyWatch Feed World"

Getting the UTV is one of the most popular options for people who prefer off-road adventures. According to many drivers, it provides even more benefits than a bigger SUV since it is lighter and smaller in size. Therefore, you will be able to get through some difficult obstacles much easier.

However, keep in mind that experience and skills are essential for challenging roads. Also, even the best drivers can face some issues, like getting stuck in the mud or between two rocks. In that matter, proper winching tools must be part of your UTV parts. Here are some tips for recovery when you get stuck on some difficult terrain.

Dont Panic

Source: utvactionmag.com

The most common mistake that is made by people with less experience is that they often make some panic moves. For example, getting stuck in the mud and then pushing the gas pedal. The problem with this is that you will only get the tires even deeper in the mud, making it more difficult to winch it in the end.

The same is when you get stuck over some rock or a trunk. Keep in mind that pushing the gas and forcing your vehicle in these cases can be quite risky since the quad could eventually roll over, and you could end with serious injuries.

You must stay focused in these situations. If you have all the essential winching equipment in your quad, you will be able to recover. Also, you should learn more about winching techniques and how to use these tools before starting your adventure.

Good Preparation is the Key

It might seem as a simple process where you will only need to connect the rope with the nearest tree, there are other details to keep in mind. The first step is to prevent serious mistakes, which can be made by choosing a wrong winch. For example, one that cannot hold the weight of your quad, or the one that is limited only for a certain base, like the tree. That can be a serious issue if there are only rocks or other objects around you when you get stuck.

Even if you know how to use th...

A Nifty 3D Printed RC Car "IndyWatch Feed Tech"

Once upon a time, a remote controlled (RC) car was something youd buy at Radio Shack or your local hobby store. These days, you can print your own, complete with suspension, right at home, as this project from [Logan57] demonstrates.

The design uses standard off-the-shelf hobby-grade components, with a brushed motor and controller for propulsion, and small metal gear servo for steering. The latter is a smart choice given theres no servo saver in the design. Save for the fasteners and bearings, all the other parts are 3D printed. The hard components are produced in PETG or PLA, while flexible TPU is used for both the tires and the spring elements in the suspension system. Its a double-wishbone design, and should serve as a good education should you later find yourself working on a Mazda Miata.

Building your own RC car isnt just fun, it opens up a whole realm of possibilities. Sick of boring monster trucks and race cars? Why not build a 1010 wheeler or some kind of wacky amphibious design? When you do, well be waiting by the tipsline to hear all about it. Video after the break.

We reckon its a common issue that many people can relate to as many people lie and many worked for someone like this some time in the past. Delta APC Reacts To PDP Jubilation, Says Omo-Ageges Petition Still Alive "IndyWatch Feed Africa"

Ovie-Omo-Agege 2

LAGOS JULY 27TH (URHOBOTODAY)-The All Progressives Congress, APC, in Delta State has said Ovie Omo-Ageges petition against the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP and the state governor, Sheriff Oborevwori, is still very much alive.

Omo-Agege was the governorship candidate of the APC during the last election in Delta State.

The party was reacting to the wild jubilation in the camp of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) as the governorship election tribunal in the state dismissed the case of former Deputy Senate President, Sen. Ovie Omo-Agege, against Governor Oborevwori.

However, the APC explained that its only an application to call additional witnesses that was refused by the tribunal in Wednesday proceedings.

The State Publicity Secretary of the Delta State APC, Valentine Onojeghuo, made these remarks in Asaba, the state capital.

He rubbished the purported dismissal and celebration by members of the State PDP, saying it was delusional.

Onojeghuo said the celebration only goes to confirm that the Delta State PDP is obviously jittery about the ironclad petition of Omo-Agege before the tribunal.

According to him, This is a confirmation that the PDP and Oborevwori are in a state of panic, very jittery and scared stiff of the ironclad petition of Sen Ovie Omo-Agege.

They know that they dont stand a chance against the petition and it is only a matter of time before the restoration of our stolen mandate to the rightful owner, Sen. Ovie Omo-Agege.

Delta Tribunal Dismisses APC, Omo-Ageges Application Against Oborevwori "IndyWatch Feed Africa"

OBOREVWORI AND OMO-AGEGE

LAGOS JULY 27TH (URHOBOTODAY)-The Delta State Governorship Election Petition Tribunal sitting in Asaba on Wednesday dismissed the application of the governorship candidate of the All Progressive Congress (APC), Senator Ovie Omo-Agege, seeking to bring in a statistician expert witness to testify before the tribunal.

The three-man panel led by Justice C.H. Ahuchaogu also dismissed another application by the APC candidate seeking an extension of time for INEC subpoenaed witness to file a witness statement on oath and also to testify before the tribunal.

Counsels to the second respondent (Governor Sheriff Oborevwori) and third respondent (Peoples Democratic Party, PDP), had opposed the applications on the ground that granting same would overreach the respondents.

They had argued that the first application specifically, was aimed at bringing in new facts when pleadings had long closed, and would not afford them another opportunity to reply.

In dismissing the first application, the tribunal while citing previous cases, agreed with the respondents that the application cannot be granted, noting that it was brought 101 days after an order for inspection of election materials was granted.

The tribunal faulted the petitioners claims that INEC was responsible for the delay, declaring that there was no evidence to show that the petitioners applied to INEC for the materials after the order for inspection of materials was granted on April 3 until May 17.

It added while the inspection was done on May 23, the petitioners waited till July 13 to file the report.

The petitioners having failed to file their expert witness statement on oath, cannot be allowed to eat their cake and have it. The application for an extension to allow for an expert statistician witness is not grantable as it will overreach the respondents who will be left with the short end of the stick as they cannot file another reply to the petition, the tribunal held.

Athletes From Two African Countries Arrive In Asaba For Warri Grand Prix "IndyWatch Feed Africa"

WARRI GRAND PRIX

LAGOS JULY 27TH (URHOBOTODAY)-Two African countries, The Gambia and Benin Republic arrived in Asaba, yesterday, ahead of the Warri Grand Prix holding at the Stephen Keshi Stadium tomorrow.

The Warri Grand Prix is being held as a tribute to former Secretary General of the Supreme Council for Sports In Africa (SCSA), the late Dr. Awoture Eleyae, who died last Thursday in Benin City. His pet project, the Awoture Eleyaes U-14, U-15 and U-17 Championships has helped the country in discovering many young talents, including Divine Oduduru, Favour Ofili and Ese Brume between 2013 and 2014.
President of Athletics Federation of Nigeria (AFN), Tonobok Okowa, told The Guardian, yesterday, that tomorrows event will afford Nigerias 4x100m relay team another chance to qualify for Budapest 2023 World Championship.
The Warri Grand Prix is a three-in-one event, with about five African countries competing in the 4x100m, 4x400m and mixed relays.

The Delta State Sports Commission has already directed all secondary schools in the three senatorial districts to produce three teams to compete in the 4x100m, 4x400m and mixed relays.
The Nigerian 4x100m relay team could not qualify for the World Championships in Budapest last Saturday in Cotonou, Benin Republic, following a mix up in their baton exchange.
Okowa stated despite the fact that the athletes are yet to qualify after attempts in Lome, Togo, Yaba Tech in Lagos and Cotonou in Benin Republic, he is optimistic they will pick the ticket tomorrow in Asaba  because they have all it takes to win a medal for Nigeria in Budapest.
I still believe our athletes have all it takes to run the required time to take Nigeria to Budapest in the 4x100m relay. We have qualified in three relay events already, the womens 4x100m, 4x400m and the mixed relay. It will be good if our mens 4x100m team joins them tomorrow in Asaba.
The late Dr. Awoture Eleaye was one of Nigerias pioneer sports administrators, who headed the SCSA from 1992 to 2004.

Mud, muck and death: Cambodias plan to obstruct trawlers and revive local fishing "IndyWatch Feed Enviro"

TRAPANG ROPOV, Cambodia Trudging through a tangle of mangrove roots and muddy water, Taing Kry grimaced and howled as he and a partner shifted the weight of a 120-kilogram (265-pound) concrete pillar from their shoulders onto a plastic raft in the shallows of Trapang Ropov, a rundown fishing village on Cambodias southern coast. This is a tractors work, Kry called, as two mates stood on a gangplank above him, smoking cigarettes and cracking jokes. We know, one of them spat back. Give us $50 and we will go to the district office and change your name officially to Mr. Tractor. A few miles out to sea, divers wearing weight belts over torn, ill-fitting wetsuits walked around on the seafloor stacking a previous load of pillars into a meter (3-foot) tall hexagonal structure. Its the latest tactic to resuscitate a community fishery riled by illegal trawlers, whose weighted, often electrified, nets kill, catch or destroy everything in their path, including the very seabed habitat upon which marine life depends. Youre knee-deep in mud down there, one of the divers said. Theres nothing else; no life, just mud, muck and death. Members of the Trapang Ropov fishing community move blocks of concrete to be loaded onto a raft, towed out to sea and then built into anti-trawling devices in March, 2023. Being such a visible heavenly body, it has been the object of wonder and veneration to ancient peoples throughout human history.

How China Is Destroying American Farmland "IndyWatch Feed Tech"

This headline is a bit of a stretch of course, but it addresses the heart of the matter.  Industrial farming is only focused on human productivity at the expense of just about everything else.

changing that is going to actually take a long time, just as industrial farming took all of the last century to largely switch over..  In our investigations, i do see a road forward for beef cattle in particular around proper grazing.  We still need to find a better solution for feedlots for finishing though.

i do think that hogs can be done properly but certainly never in mass operations.  Operational piggeries are actually useful on any farm but need to be built around a single individuals workload and not intergfere with other operations. again it is ideal for the natural community optimizing sdeveral hundred acres.  then manpower is not a problem.  Same is true for dairy for the same reason.  none of all this was ever meant to be a solo operation.

the big condition though is that the piggery needs to maintain a whole sooner of thirty animals at least on a thick bed of wood chips.  This is a natural usage of chips produced from grroming the woodlot on an annual basis.  Those chips absorb the manure and urine until fully charged and then replaced.  this eliminates odor and keeps the animals healthy.

such pigs are used to consume all farm wastes as well.

Editors summary

Unlike some volcanic eruptions, no clear set of precursor signals have been identified for large earthquakes. Bletery and Nocquet analyzed high-rate GPS time series before 90 different earthquakes that were magnitude 7 and above to find a precursor signal (see the Perspective by Brgmann). They observed a subtle signal that rose from the noise about 2 hours before these major earthquakes occurred. This work may allow fault monitoring for this precursor phase with denser and higher-precision instrumentation. Brent Grocholski

Abstract

The existence of an observable precursory phase of slip on the fault before large earthquakes has been debated for decades. Although observations preceding several large earthquakes have been proposed as possible indicators of precursory slip, these observations do not directly precede earthquakes, are not seen before most events, and are also commonly observed without being followed by earthquakes. We conducted a global search for short-term precursory slip in GPS data. We summed the displacements measured by 3026 high-rate GPS time seriesprojected onto the directions expected from precursory slip at the hypocenterduring 48 hours before 90 (moment magnitude 7) earthquak...

Virginia legislative candidates in Richmond and Hampton Roads raked in millions in final primary sprint "IndyWatch Feed World"

Virginia legislative candidates across Greater Richmond and Hampton Roads raised nearly $3.8 million in the last three weeks of June  mostly from big donors giving more than $10,000 to their campaigns, according to an OpenSecrets analysis of campaign finance reports filed on July 17.

The reports, which cover fundraising activity from June 9-30, also show that candidates in contested primaries raised at least $1 million in the final days of the June 20 elections.

As of June 30, total fundraising for the 2023 election cycle in the two regions has topped $33.5 million, with about four months to go until Election Day.

All 140 seats in the General Assembly are on the ballot in November, and races across central and southeastern Virginia could decide control of the state legislature. Republicans currently hold a slim 52-48 majority in the House and Democrats maintain control of the senate with 22 out of 40 seats.

Overall, Democratic candidates raised nearly $1.4 million more than Republicans during the last reporting period, but several top fundraisers competed against one another in costly primary races. Many GOP nominees went unchallenged in Republican primaries.

The top fundraiser was former Del. Lashrecse Aird (D-Petersburg), who defeated incumbent Sen....

Somalia authorities arrest officers accused of abetting suicide bombing "IndyWatch Feed Africa"

SNA

Somali authorities have arrested several military officers for allegedly helping a suicide bomber gain entry to a military academy in the capital Mogadishu this week and kill at least 30 soldiers, an officer said on Wednesday.

The Al Qaeda-linked al Shabaab group, which has been waging an insurgency against Somalias national government since 2006, claimed responsibility for the attack at the Jale Siyaad military academy.

The attack was one of the deadliest the group has carried out in years against a military target in Mogadishu.

Colonel Abdullahi Dabow, an infantry operations officer, has been arrested and accused of bringing the suicide bomber into the academy in his car, Captain Hussein Farah told Reuters.

He said other officers had also been arrested in connection with the attack, without naming them.

Reuters was not able to reach Dabow or a representative for comment.

Many Somalis have long suspected that al Shabaab operatives have infiltrated parts of the government and military, but arrests had been rare until recently.

In the past few months, the authorities have arrested dozens of police and military officers on suspicion of helping al Shabaab to carry out attacks against soldiers and civilians, local government officials have told Reuters.

The central authorities have not commented on these arrests, and government officials did not respond to requests for comment.

After Mondays attack, parliament speaker Aden Mohamed Nur Madobe called on the security services to investigate and arrest al Shabaab collaborators.

The idea that a suicide bomber just comes in a military queue in a military base is not something that can be accepted. This is killing the confidence of the people, he said in comments broadcast on local television.

A military campaign by government forces and allied militiamen against al Shabaab since last year has pushed the militants out of large swathes of territory, but the group continues to stage frequent attacks.
