"The Guardian has obtained documents, ..."

Und die ganzen CDU-Whler da drauen brauchen ja auch keine Quellenangabe und lesen eh keine Primrquellen. Warum also die Arbeit machen.

Softwareproblem. Kann man nichts machen. Twitter DDoSt sich selbst.

Obviously... Petri Dish is the place to announce the soon-to-be-released Ode to Trivia... Barbie The Movie.

Barbie is one of those truly American creations, like cotton candy... religious cults... Tater Tots... Twinkies... and Red Dye #2.

Apparently... there are several Barbies in the film, including Mermaid Barbie and Tranny Barbie. They've even got a porcine Lawyer Barbie and a Schizo-Barbie. They tried to hit all the politically correct buttons; except I don't see an Out Biker Barbie... a wheelchair Barbie... an Amputee Barbie... Homeless Barbie... Meth-Freak Barbie... or Serial Killer Barbie. I expect we will hear from the marginalized at some point.

Like her counterpart, Obesity Barbie, she may have gotten her start somewhere else; like the decadent courts of France... or The Ming Dynasty, but... she came to full toxicity in The Land of Dreams and Milkshakes... right here in The Occupied States of America.

A lot of unusual phenomena that enchanted The World got their start here. How about Nepotism Barbie with the body graffiti tattoos; shamelessly displayed on the undraped forms of Paris Jackson... Lourdes Leon... and Miley Cyrus... among many others.

I guess I understand tattoos. The Japanese have made them into an art form, BUT... I'm talking about what used to be called jailhouse tattoos. For some reason, you mostly see them mostly on females.

It's similar... in my mind... to getting plastic surgery to look cross-eyed or bowlegged. My elementary psychological profile on the matter indicates... self-loathing... and more bad parenting. It ALWAYS comes down to Bad Parenting; "well... where did you learn that?" "Who told you that?" "Where did you get that?" "Why do you do that?" Bad Parenting

I wouldn't bring up this pocket lint without a reason. You can USUALLY see what's coming in a cultural sense by studying trends in entertainme...

Whos Behind the DomainNetworks Snail Mail Scam? "IndyWatch Feed Tech"

If youve ever owned a domain name, the chances are good that at some point youve received a snail mail letter which appears to be a bill for a domain or website-related services. In reality, these misleading missives try to trick people into paying for useless services they never ordered, dont need, and probably will never receive. Heres a look at the most recent incarnation of this scam DomainNetworks and some clues about who may be behind it.

The DomainNetworks mailer may reference a domain that is or was at one point registered to your name and address. Although the letter includes the words marketing services in the upper right corner, the rest of the missive is deceptively designed to look like a bill for services already rendered.

DomainNetworks claims that listing your domain with their promotion services will result in increased traffic to your site. This is a dubious claim for a company that appears to be a complete fabrication, as well see in a moment.  But happily, the proprietors of this enterprise were not so difficult to track down.

The website Domainnetworks[.]com says it is a business with a post office box in Hendersonville, N.C., and another address in Santa Fe, N.M. There are a few random, non-technology businesses tied to the phone number listed for the Hendersonville address, and the New Mexico address was used by several no-name web hosting companies.

However, there is little connected to these addresses and phone numbers that get us any closer to finding out whos running Domainnetworks[.]com. And neither entity appears to be an active, official company in their supposed state of residence, at least according to each states Secretary of State database.

The Better Business Bureau listing for DomainNetworks gives it an F rating, and includes more than 100 reviews by people angry at receiving one of these scams via snail mail. Helpfully, the BBB says DomainNetworks previously operated under a different name: US Domain Authority LLC.

Canadian Smoke Coming to the Northwest "IndyWatch Feed Nthamerica"

Although there are very few wildfires in Washington, Oregon, California, and southern British Columbia, there are significant fires in the Canadian boreal forests of northern British Columbia and Alberta.

And that smoke will push in aloft over Washington State tomorrow and Tuesday.

Below is a map of current Canadian wildfires. The big red dots show current, large active fires.

The problem for the Pacific Northwest is that an upper-level ridge of high pressure will develop offshore, with a trough inland, resulting in strong northern winds providing a fast conduit for smoke from the Canadian northern forest.

No Other Option: Eastern Ukraine Must Be Destroyed To Save It "IndyWatch Feed War"

By Matthew Hoh, July 3, 3023

In the wars second year, it is clear Russia had options other than ruinous invasion and occupation.

Note: This essay is the second of three parts. Please see part one here.

I speak of peace, therefore, as the necessary rational end of rational men.

~President John F. Kennedy, American University, June 10, 1963

Following an essay I published earlier this month and the letter the Eisenhower Media Network ran in The New York Times in May, I have heard forceful and passionate protests that Russia had no other option but to invade Ukraine in February 2022. Frankly, I find quite bewildering and concerning this intense insistence that the only option available to Russia was to launch a cross-border invasion, conduct a deliberate occupation of a sovereign country, and commit a clear violation of the Nuremberg Principles and international law.

So far, pre-emptive invasion and occupation have resulted in the deaths and wounding of hundreds of thousands; created over 10 million internal and external refugees, including roughly 3 million into Russia; initiated massive and lasting environmental destruction; and threatened a nuclear world war through dangerous escalation. The execution of this lone and, so by extension, necessary option, as described by its apologists, has achieved limited territorial gains while strengthening NATO. Without a negotiated political settlement, the February 2022 choice of invasion and prolonged war offers continued destabilizing and ruinous violence, accompanied by the ever-present risk of apocalyptic escalation and the emergence of Pandoras Box opportunities, e.g., a mer...

The Armed Revolt: Why Israel Cannot Crush the Resistance in Palestine "IndyWatch Feed World"

Numbers can be dehumanizing. However, when placed in their proper context, they help to illuminate wider issues and answer urgent questions, such as why occupied Palestine is at the threshold of a major revolt. And why Israel cannot crush Palestinian resistance no matter how hard or violently it tries.

Thats when numbers become relevant. Since the start of this year, nearly 200 Palestinians have been killed in the Occupied West Bank and Gaza. Among them are 27 children.

If one is to imagine a heat map correlating the towns, villages and refugee camps of the Palestinian victims to the ongoing armed rebellion, one will immediately spot direct connections. Gaza, Jenin and Nablus, for example, paid the heaviest price for Israeli violence, making them the regions that resist most.

Fundraiser

Unsurprisingly, Palestinian refugees have historically been at the forefront of the Palestinian liberation movement, turning refugee camps such as Jenin, Balata, Aqabat Jabr, Jabaliya, Nuseirat and others into hot spots of popular and armed resistance. The harder Israel attempts to crush Palestinian resistance, the greater the Palestinian reaction is.

Take Jenin as an example. The rebellious refugee camp has never ceased its resistance to the Israeli occupation since the famous battle and subsequent Israeli massacre of April 2002. The resistance continued there in all of its forms, despite the fact that many of the fighters who defended the camp against the Israeli invasion of the Second Palestinian Uprising, or Intifada, were killed or imprisoned.

Now that a new generation has taken over, Israel is at it again. Military incursions of Jenin by Israel have become a routine, resulting in a mounting number of casualties, though at a price for Israel itself.

The most notable and violent of these incursions was on January 26, when the Israeli army invaded the camp, killed ten Pa...

Meat consumption hits record low in Germany, soaring inflation blamed "IndyWatch Feed World"

More and more Germans are swapping meat products for plant-based proteins, according to Germany's Ministry for Agriculture, but not everyone is ready to give them up. Despite being known for their love of sausages and schnitzel, Germans have been steadily eating less meat over the past few years. "Eating less meat definitely contributes to both the environment and animals. And it is also healthy," said a 28-year-old local government worker at the Vegan Summer Festival in Berlin. Comment: There's a wealth of data showing that, for the vast majority of people, meat consumption is critical to health. Florian Busmann used to enjoy sausages and steak on the barbecue in the summer, but these days he prefers meat substitutes and grilled vegetables like aubergines and peppers. Figures from the German Agriculture Ministry show that meat consumption dropped to 52 kilogrammes per person in 2022, the lowest figure since calculations began in 1989.

With Drone Strike, the Occupied West Bank Could Turn Into War-Ravaged Gaza "IndyWatch Feed World"

Last week, the Israeli military killed three Palestinians in its first aerial drone strike in the occupied West Bank in nearly 20 years marking a grave escalation in state violence against the territory.

Using an Elbit Systems Hermes 450 drone, the military struck a vehicle in Jenin carrying Palestinians suspected of fatally shooting four Israelis the day before. According to the Israeli military, this was the first drone strike since 2006 during the Second Intifada, or Palestinian uprising against Israeli occupation.

Drones have been mainly used in the West Bank for intelligence and surveillance purposes. Yet last September the rules changed when Israeli Army Chief of Staff, Lt.-Gen. Aviv Kochavi, approved the use of armed drones for targeted killings in the West Bank. Amid the armys announcement, reports emerged the military was already preparing units to operate armed drones during raids.

Fundraiser

Experts surmised Israels decision to use an armed drone suggests its losing control of the West Bank amid increased armed resistance.

It was designed to project power and deterrence, but in effect only underscored Israels growing weakness in its efforts to contain, let alone stifle, the spreading militancy across the West Bank, Foreign policy analyst, Yonatan Touval, told MintPress News.

Additionally, the move also points to Israels intensifying use of automated weaponry against Palestinians as becoming the norm.

The choice of using an armed drone to strike suspected militants outside the city could convey reticence in the use of ground troops for a simple military operation, Touval said.

The Silent Slaughter of the Flower of Ukraines Youth "IndyWatch Feed War"

Plans love silence. Therell be no announcement of the start. Photo credit: Ukraine Defense Ministry

By Medea Benjamin and Nicolas J. S. Davies, World BEYOND War, July 3, 2023

As Ukraine prepared to launch its much heralded but long delayed counteroffensive, the media published a photograph of a Ukrainian soldier with his finger on his lips, symbolizing the need for secrecy to retain some element of surprise for this widely telegraphed operation.

Now that the offensive has been under way for two weeks, it is clear that the Ukrainian government and its Western allies are maintaining silence for quite a different reason: to conceal the brutal cost Ukraines brave young people are paying to recover small scraps of territory from Russian occupation forces, in what some are already calling a suicide mission.

Western pundits at first described these first two weeks of fighting as probing operations to find weak spots in Russias defenses, which Russia has been fortifying since 2022 with multiple layers of minefields, dragons teeth, tank-traps, pre-positioned artillery, and attack helicopters, unopposed in the air, that can fire 12 anti-tank missiles apiece.

On the advice of British military advisers in Kyiv, Ukraine flung Western tanks and armored vehicles manned by NATO-trained troops into these killing fields without air support or de-mining operations. The results have been predictably disastrous, and it is now clear that these are not just probi...

International Energy Agency warns of higher bills and blackouts this winter "IndyWatch Feed World"

The head of the International Energy Agency has warned that energy prices may spike again this winter, forcing government to subsidise bills - just days after state support for UK households fell away. Fatih Birol said a rapid improvement in the Chinese economy, coupled with a harsh winter, could put pressure on gas supplies and push up bills for consumers. He said the agency "cannot rule out" another spike in gas prices this winter, which would mirror last year when a surge in wholesale costs as a result of Russia's invasion of Ukraine fed through to huge consumer bills. Comment: Note: The West sanctioned itself out of significant sectors of the energy market, and it blew up Nord Stream. "In a scenario where the Chinese economy is very strong, buys a lot of energy from the markets, and we have a harsh winter, we may see strong upward pressure under natural gas prices, which in turn will put an extra burden on consumers," Birol told BBC Radio 4's Today programme.

The AfD has been experiencing a surge in popularity, reaching record highs in opinion polls. This recent success follows their first district election win just a week ago. Hannes Loth, a 42-year-old farmer and member of the local parliament, won the mayoral election in Raguhn-Jessnitz, a small town in Saxony-Anhalt, in a run-off against independent candidate Nils Naumann.

How the UK Deep State Took Down Jeremy Corbyn, with Asa Winstanley "IndyWatch Feed World"

The MintPress podcast, The Watchdog, hosted by British-Iraqi hip hop artist Lowkey, closely examines organizations about which it is in the public interest to know including intelligence, lobby and special interest groups influencing policies that infringe on free speech and target dissent. The Watchdog goes against the grain by casting a light on stories largely ignored by the mainstream, corporate media.

The election of longtime peace activist and anti-imperialist Jeremy Corbyn to the position of leader of the U.K. Labour Party inspired hope and dread across the nation. Hope from millions of ordinary people, who, for once, saw a politician that represented them, and dread from the British establishment, who feared what a radical like Corbyn could do if he were elected prime minister.

Fundraiser

Corbyn was subjected to one of historys most prolonged and intense propaganda campaigns. He has been labeled everything from a terrorist sympathizer a communist spy, and a national security threat. He has been condemned for not bowing low enough, riding a Chairman Mao-style bicycle and not singing the national anthem loudly enough. One academic study of the coverage found that 75% of newspaper articles dealing with him misrepresented him or his views.

However, the most sustained attack on Corbyn was that he was a raving anti-Semite. We now know this was in no small part down to a coordinated smear campaign from the Israeli government and its supporters. Here to talk about the forces working in harmony to destroy Corbyns movement is returning guest Asa Winstanley.

Meat scientist

There are scientists I respect, and there are scientists I do not. Jos Manuel Lorenzo is in the latter category, although Im sure he wouldnt care. Hes rolling in the money and the false coin of scientific prestige.

Meat expert Jos Manuel Lorenzo, 46, is the researcher who has published the most scientific studies in Spain. He put his name on 176 papers last year, according to a count by John Ioannidis an expert in biomedical statistics at Stanford University which was requested by EL PAS.

Lorenzo publishes a study every other day (if you include weekends). Its an astonishing figure, far above the second-highest ranked scientist: the prestigious ecologist Josep Peuelas, 65, who published 112 studies in 2022

Im trying to picture the logistics of all that. It typically takes a month or more to get a paper published, and thats if there are no revisions or rejections. Ive heard of high priority, dramatic results getting a turnaround of a week or so maybe trash papers that no one cares about similarly get rapid publication. At any rate, it must mean hes got dozens of papers stacked up in a queue at any one time. How does he find time to cope with revisions, let alone actually write them? Forget about actual research. The evidence backing up the claims that warrant a publication would have to be done in a day or two!

Oh wait, there is a way. Dont do the research, dont do the writing, and dont even read the papers.

Jos Manuel Lorenzo is the head of research at the Meat Technology Center (CTC) an entity dedicated to meat products, supported by the regional government of Galicia in San Cibrao das Vias, a city in the Spanish province of Ourense. A person who has worked with him recalls that, around 2018, his laboratory became a sausage factory. Lorenzo went from publishing less than 20 studies a year to signing his name to more than 120. He doesnt even have time to read them, says another person, who has collaborated on projects with the man.

At one point, Lorenzo began collaborating with exotic researchers who nobody knew about on topics that have nothing to do with meat. Four months ago, he published a study on the hospital management of monkeypox, alongside Iraqi, Indian and...

Dont get me started on the Human Resources paradigm of business management.

OK, you got me started.

The Human Resources paradigm is fundamentally flawed because it denies the moral distinction between people and things.

Oh, it makes operational distinctions:  it recognizes that people are more complicated than other things; and it recognizes that people are more costly than other things; but it asserts positively that managers ought to treat their employees decently for the same set of reasons that, say, carpenters sharpen their saws.

Its that for the same set of reasons bit thats the error; and its an error that cant be fixed.  You cant wash it off and peel the skin; its rotten to the core.  All you can do is throw it away and hope that the next one isnt so disgusting.

OK, having gotten that off my chest, Ill back off slightly and allow as how the Human Resources paradigm does have one bit of utility:  it presents an argument that the Mr. and Ms. WIIFMs* of the world can comprehend.

Iran Admits its Quantum Computer Had Zero Quantum in It "IndyWatch Feed Tech"

The quantum equivalent to shooting your own feet:

A few weeks ago, Iran broke through worldwide media due to its announcement that the country had successfully developed and deployed quantum computing products to aid in its military operations. But even as Iran's Rear Admiral Habibollah Sayyari smiled at the cameras present in the announcement, the tech world was quick to notice that the gold-plaqued board being showcased as an example of the country's work on quantum computing was nothing more than an Amazon-available, ARM-based FPGA (Field-Programable Gate Array) development board.

It seems Iran took a bit longer than one would expect to actually run the numbers on its "quantum computing product." Only recently, the country issued an official withdrawal statement admitting that there was no quantum at all to its quantum announcement.

"The unveiling of the FPGA board in the said conference has conveyed this false mentality to the country's media space that the said board is a quantum processor, which was not the case," said the research vice chancellor for Imam Khomeini University (machine translation via Tasnim News). Note that the issue isn't with the announcement itself and how it was worded. Apparently, the issue was with the country's media.

Even so, the research vice chancellor insisted that Iran is indeed looking into quantum computing as an aid for its armed forces' missions, adding that "the principle of the problem of the proposed algorithm, dealing with the disturbance of surface vessels' positioning systems, is important and approved for the promotion of maritime security."

Facebook Contributed to Death of Online Journalism and Whats Left Online Isnt Covering Real Facebook Scandals "IndyWatch Feed Tech"

Summary: The demise of Facebook and other social control media (or the World Wide Web at large) wont be televised; to make matters worse, what prevails on todays Web is clickbait, gossip and SEO noise

MY intention here is not to constantly bash the media, but its curious that instead of finding actual news about Facebook I mostly find Facebook-connected puff pieces and ridiculous gossip about a fight (two sociopaths looking to distract from their commercial failure [2]).

Its a public holiday in the United States, so news is expected to be slow.I moreover worry that reputable news sites now publish cooking recipes as front page news, resort to webspam (sometimes computer-generated spew), and the Web is dominated by digital tabloids, not journalism. For instance, regarding Facebook, Gizmodo [1-5] and Engadget [6] focus on news thats more akin to gossip, including empty claims of parental supervision, just as we noted some hours ago in relation to TikTok. Gizmodo and Engadget also produced a lot of Microsoft webspam earlier this year, faking excitement of hype for some chatbot thats still falsely marketed.

Its a public holiday in the United States, so news is expected to be slow. We continue to wonder aloud how to still pursue actual information and scientific facts. We expect that later this month Microsoft will start another storm of vapourware in the media, days or weeks ahead of mass layoffs being announced again. Theyre batching it. Its a PR ta...

Copper Crunch: A Looming Constraint for Energy Policy "IndyWatch Feed War"

Copper, an integral part of the global economy, is utilized extensively across numerous sectors, including construction, telecommunications, and, most notably, the growing renewable energy industry. Recent projections indicate an impending copper supply shortage due to increasing demand driven by global decarbonization and electrification initiatives. As a result, the copper crunch presents significant implications for the global economy, energy policy, and geopolitics.

Developing new copper mines is a complex, time-consuming task, necessitating extensive exploration, regulatory approval, and a lengthy lead time, often exceeding a decade. Thus, the potential for rapid increases in copper output to meet supply deficits is severely limited.

Regulation is a critical factor in this context. Strict environmental standards, labor laws, and protections for indigenous rights can further extend development timelines and inflate costs. Additionally, resource nationalism, where countries aim to retain control of their natural resources, can complicate matters by imposing export restrictions, increasing taxation, or outright nationalization.

Dead whale found on the shore of Peaks Island, Maine "IndyWatch Feed World"

Peaks Island residents discovered a dead whale on the shore Saturday morning. "It is a minke whale," Sgt. Matt Wyman of the Maine Marine Patrol said. The agency is assisting Marine Mammals of Maine in getting to the island so officials can do sampling that will determine what happened to the whale, Wyman said. Minke whales are common in Maine, he said. Mary Collari said she, her daughter and their dogs were out early Saturday for a walk along the shore. "I saw a large number of golf carts pulling over" and a small crowd had gathered, she said. When Collari got closer, she saw the dead whale, which appeared to be about 20 feet long. "It's sad," she said. "It's right on the shore on the southern part of Peaks Island." The mood of the crowd was somber, she said. "A lot of people there were quiet ... respect for this magnificent animal."

New Windows Meduza Stealer targets tens of crypto wallets and password managers "IndyWatch Feed Tech"

Researchers spotted a new Windows information stealer called Meduza Stealer, the authors employ sophisticated marketing strategies to promote it.

The Meduza Stealer can steal browsing activities and extract a wide array of browser-related data, including login credentials, browsing history and bookmarks. The malware also targets crypto wallet extensions, password managers, and 2FA extensions.

The authors are actively developing malware to evade detection, but no specific attacks have been attributed to the Meduza Stealer to date.

The malware admin declared that their operations do not involve any ransom activities. Like other malware, the malicious code doesnt infect systems in the Commonwealth of Independent States (CIS region). The stealer prevents execution if the C2 server is unreachable. The researchers at Uptycs, who discovered the malware, noticed that the binary does not employ obfuscation techniques, but the malicious code has a low detection rate.

Whats more concerning is that a large portion of antivirus software has proven ineffective against the Meduza stealer binary, either failing to detect it statically or dynamically reads the analysis published by Uptycs. But the real game-changer in their marketing strategy has been the pricing model and the added control provided to subscribers.

The administrator offers access to the stolen data through a management console. The malware also collects a variety of data, including system info, browser info, password manager info, miner related registry info, and installed games info.

Lets Make the Zuckerberg vs. Musk Fight Interesting "IndyWatch Feed Nthamerica"

When Twitter owner Elon Musk challenged Meta chief executive Mark Zuckerberg to a cage match last month, it was tough to imagine anything dumber than two billionaires wanting to physically fight each other. Since then, however, things have gotten progressively more ridiculous.

Normally, a PR event involving two attention-seeking wannabe alphas is not something we would cover. In fact, no publication should (although they all did). Except maybe The Onion.

However, among all of the slow news days, the Mondays between weekends and major holidays rank at the very top, so its unlikely that anything is going to happen today.

Therefore, it seems like an opportune time to write about this stupid fight especially because the alternative was a preview of that hot dog eating contest in New York.

And, to be fair, we are not so much covering the fight as making fun of it.

So, lets get to it.

Safety Risks of Mountain Valley Pipeline (MVP) of Great Concern! "IndyWatch Feed Enviro"

Sections of steel pipe of the Mountain Valley Pipeline lie in the sun on wooden blocks

Bidens Mountain Valley Pipeline and the Titan Submarine Disaster

From an Essay by Bill Kitchen, Common Dreams, July 1, 2023

We have seen what happens when things are built from substandard materials with faulty design.

When President Biden agreed to the debt deal in May, the Mountain Valley Pipeline (MVP) became his pipeline. Climate scientists tell us its exactly the wrong thing to be building in 2023 but the president fast-tracked it anyway. He may claim that his hands were tied by Manchin and the Republicans who were willing to hold the economy hostage if they didnt get their way. But no one is tying the Presidents hands when it comes to an important safety measure regarding MVP.

For more than 50 years theres been a federal law on the books that says all pipe must have an external coating that is sufficiently ductile to resist cracking. The purpose of the coating is to prevent corrosion over the many years and decades that the pipeline will be in service. The reason it has to be sufficiently ductile (flexible) to resist cracking is because 40-foot sections of pipe flex quite a bit when they are moved from the factory to the pipeyard to the right of way and finally into a ditch. The factory-applied coating is designed to flex but it loses its flexibility, as well as other qualities if it sits out in the sun for too long.

The National Association of Pipe Coating Applicators (NAPCA) says that the coating shouldnt be exposed to the sun for more than six months but the MVP pipe was coated 6 or 7 years ago and most of it has been exposed to the sun in pipeyards or along right of ways ever since. The January 2020 issue of Corrosion Management reported (starting on p.16) that the coating on Keystone XL pipe was no longer fit for purpose after it had sat out in the sun for years just as MVPs pipe has. Every piece of KXL pipe that was tested failed the flexibility test and had cracks in the coating. Cracked coating is obviously no longer corrosion-proof.

The coating shouldnt be exposed to the sun for more than six months but the MVP pipe was coated 6 or 7 years ago and most of it has been exposed to the sun in pipeyards or along right of ways ever since.

In 2010 a gas pipeline exploded in San Bruno. It killed eight people, i...

AI and Humanitys Future "IndyWatch Feed Tech"

The concept of a computational consciousness and the potential impact it may have on humanity is a topic of ongoing debate and speculation. While Artificial Intelligence (AI) has made significant advancements in recent years, we have not yet achieved a true computational consciousness that can replicate the complexities of the human mind.

It is true that AI technologies are becoming more sophisticated and capable of performing tasks that were previously exclusive to human intelligence. However, there are fundamental differences between Artificial Intelligence and human consciousness. Human consciousness is not solely based on computation; it encompasses emotions, subjective experiences, self-awareness, and other aspects that are not yet fully understood or replicated in machines.

The arrival of advanced AI systems could certainly have transformative effects on society and our understanding of humanity. It may reshape various aspects of our lives, from how we work and communicate to how we approach healthcare and scientific discoveries. AI can enhance our capabilities and provide valuable tools for solving complex problems.

However, it is important to consider the ethical implications and potential risks associated with the development of AI. Ensuring that AI systems are developed and deployed responsibly, with a focus on fairness, transparency, and accountability, is crucial.

The relationship between humans and AI is evolving, and it is essential to approach this integration with thoughtful consideration. While AI technologies can augment and assist us, they do not replace the essence of our humanity. It is through careful collaboration and understanding that we can harness the potential of AI while preserving our unique qualities as human beings.

In this new era of advancing AI, the ETER9 Project introduces a groundbreaking concept: the creation of digital counterparts. These AI-driven entities are designed to simulate human personalities, thoughts, and behaviors, offering a unique opportunity for individuals to explor...

Indonesias coal burning hits record high and green nickel is largely why "IndyWatch Feed Enviro"

JAKARTA Indonesia burned more coal in 2022 than any other year, a preliminary analysis shows, putting the country on track to become one of the largest carbon emitters from fossil fuel in the world. Data from the Indonesian Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources showed that coal consumption amounted to 745.72 million barrels of oil equivalent (BOE) in 2022, a 33% increase from 558.78 million BOE in 2021. The data shows the countrys coal consumption to be the highest ever by a very large margin. Indonesias primary energy supply by source in 2022. Image courtesy of Robbie Andrew. Using this data, researchers from the Global Carbon Project, an organization that seeks to quantify global greenhouse gas emissions and their sources, measured the emissions that came from that increase. Coupled with other increases in fossil fuel consumption, such as oil (12%) and gas (1.2%), these increases drove Indonesias total carbon dioxide equivalent (CO2e) emissions from fossil fuels to grow by 20.3%, according to Robbie Andrew, a member of the Global Carbon Project and senior researcher at the Norway-based CICERO Centre for International Climate Research. Why Cities are Flying Blind When It Comes to Their Own Debt "IndyWatch Feed Nthamerica"

(Source: Pixabay/geralt.)

My grandfather, when he was alive, used to give me warnings about debt. He told me to not use credit cards, to avoid paying interest, and to never take on debt for depreciating assets. In his eyes, it was better to have no debt on a small house than a large mortgage on a big house. He lived a frugal life with my grandmother, raising six kids and a couple dozen grandkids in our small town in Central Minnesota.

But, he grew up in the Great Depression, so what does he really know about debt?

Seriously. My grandfathers insights on debt today are way out of the modern mainstream. Im sure there are some of you that do strict household budgeting and others of you seeking to retire early the Mr. Money Mustache way, but that is the minority. Almost everyone else in the United States is all-in on debt.

In a chicken-and-egg kind of way, I struggle to discern whether it was our high debt levels that changed our minds on debt, or whether we changed our minds on debt and that created high debt levels. Either way, our entire societyfrom top to bottomnow runs on credit. This is so much so that weve developed elaborate explanations for why thousands of years of economic theories, philosophical insights, and moral teachings regarding debt are wrong.

And not just wrong; ignorant, small-minded, and absurd. For nearly all of human history, the moral position on debt was to avoid it. Today, the moral position on debt is to support the expansion of credit in every part of society.

I bring this up not to make a moral statement on debt, but to point out that we are in unexplored territory, at least for any American alive tod...

Last Wednesday I did my first ever Tenx9 at the Black Box in Belfast. The theme was along with the Belfast Photo Festival Journey.

Its a mix of politics and how my Granny set me on the path towards my career today. Anyway, I hope you enjoy it.

You can listen to this story here on the podcast or you can read the text below.

I am the little fella in this picture taken in the summer of 1997, rocking the blue bow tie as I continue my journey through catholic education at my first holy communion. Whilst there has been a world of change since those heady days in 1997, when new labour has just come into power and we were picking up the pace towards what would eventually become known as the GFA, my hairstyle has remained a constant, no matter the government of the day or whatever peace agreement is faltering locally.

But why this picture means so much to me is not because of the world going on around me, its the lady standing behind me, my Granny.

This picture is the best I can find that really brings home to me my journey and the people who guided me on it.

For those of you who do not know, I am a self-confessed political nerd. I love a good election (I have to say with 11 elections in the past 9 years Northern Ireland has been an election nerd dream) and I love learning about the world around me and this passion for politics, came in many ways from my granny.

Her name was Mary Ann Fitzpatrick, she was born in 1926 in a town called Loughinisland in South Down. She moved to London, where she had five daughters, god help my poor grandfather.

She was a mild-mannered lady, who believed you should never draw attention to yourself. And I speak knowing that she is somewhere up there being absolutely mortified that I am doing this. Sorry granny

Now my granny had many great attributes, she had a great sense of humour, a love of current affairs, and a big heart. But timing was never her strong suit, the best example I can give of this, was her idea to move herself and her youngest daughters from the comfort of London to the streets of North Belfast. Looking for a quieter life. The year she chose to do this was 1968.

And as you all know what came next. I am not saying my granny moving here with my mum caused the Troubles. but the idea of my mum running around the nationalist parts of North Belfast with a broad English accent has to rank as one of the worst paper rounds in Northern Ireland history.

By the time I rocked up in 1988, all of her children were grown up, my grandfather had died very suddenly of a blood clot in 1971 and my granny, like so many people had to navigate this chaos largely by herself. She poured her energy into her grandchildren, no more so than me. Im the baby of the grandchildren....

Donations for a policeman whose killing of a teenager sparked nationwide protests in France topped more than $1m on Monday, as mayors called for rallies opposing nearly a week of nationwide riots.

The online fund, set up by far-right media commentator Jean Messiha, has caused outrage among the family and several politicians and supporters of the murdered 17-year-old Nahel Merzouk.

More than 40,000 people contributed to the now $1.07m fund, which easily surpassed the $206,000 gathered for Merzouk's family.

Merzouk was killed on 28 June by a gunshot to the chest during a roadside check by the police officer in Nanterre, west of the capital, after reportedly refusing to comply with orders from the officer. The officer has been charged with voluntary manslaughter.

Merzouk's grandmother said she was "heartbroken" by the support shown for the police officer when she was asked about it on Sunday.

Experts detected a new variant of North Korea-linked RUSTBUCKET macOS malware "IndyWatch Feed Tech"

the RustBucket Apple macOS malware that supports enhanced capabilities.

Researchers from the Elastic Security Labs have spotted a new variant of the RustBucket Apple macOS malware.

In April, the security firm Jamf observed the North Korea-linked BlueNoroff APT group using a new macOS malware, dubbed RustBucket.

The group BlueNoroff is considered a group that operates under the control of the notorious North Korea-linked Lazarus APT group.

The RustBucket malware allows operators to download and execute various payloads. The attribution to the BlueNoroff APT is due to the similarities in the findings that emerged from Kasperskys analysis published in December 2022. The similarities include malicious tooling on macOS that closely aligns with TTPs of those employed in the campaign.

The first-stage malware was contained within an unsigned application named Internal PDF Viewer.app. Experts believe the app can only be executed by manually overriding the Gatekeeper security measure.

The stage-one simply executes various do shell script commands to download the second stage malware from the C2 using curl. The malicious code extracts the contents of the zip file to the /Users/Shared/ directory and executes a stage-two application which is also named Internal PDF Viewer.app.

The second stage malware doesnt use AppleScript, it masquerades as a legitimate Apple bundle identifier and is signed with an ad-hoc signature.

When the Internal PDF Viewer application is launched, the user is presented with a PDF viewing application where they can select and open PDF documents. The application, although basic, does actually operate as a functional PDF viewer. reads the analysis published by Jamf. A task that isnt overly difficult using Apples well-built PDFKit Framework.

The stage-two malware communicates with the C2 server to fetch the stage-three payload, which is an ad-hoc signed trojan written in the Rust language. The trojan can run on both ARM and x86 architectures.

Upon executing, the malware collects system information, including the process listing, current time and whether or not its running within a VM.

This third-stage payload allows the attacker to carry o...

Freq Out with LTSpice "IndyWatch Feed Tech"

We always enjoy [FesZs] videos, and his latest about FREQ function in LTSpice is no exception. In fact, LTSpice doesnt document it, but it is part of the underlying Spice system. So, of course, you can figure it out or just watch the video below. The FREQ keyword allows you to change component attributes in a frequency-depended way.

Of course, capacitors and inductors are frequency dependent by design. But the FREQ technique allows you to adjust things like voltage sources or resistance in arbitrary ways. By default, you must specify the frequency response data in decibels, which isnt always convenient. However, [FesZ] shows you how to use other methods to express them using modifiers to the command.

When you have experimental frequency response data, you probably have many samples. About midway through the video, youll see how to manage data with more points using a subcircuit that you can put in an external file.

The end of the video looks at some practical applications. He shows an inductor characterized by a vector network analyzer. With the S1 parameters, he can produce a high-fidelity model of the actual inductor instead of using a generic model of an inductor. A little spreadsheet gymnastics allows him to convert the file into Spice format quickly.

If you need more help with LTSpice, we can help...

Fire imperils Madagascars baobabs: Q&A with park director Diamondra Andriambololona "IndyWatch Feed Enviro"

MORONDAVA, Madagascar As the director of Kirindy Mite National Park and Andranomena Special Reserve near Madagascars southwestern coast, Diamondra Andriambololona oversees the protection of nearly 162,770 hectares (402,213 acres) of biodiversity. The forests there are facing increasingly extreme anthropogenic threats, exacerbated by local poverty. Kirindy Mite National Park, near the village of Belo-Sur-Mer, 80 kilometers (50 miles) south of the town of Morondava, has both a terrestrial and a marine component. Together, they form an ecosystem as extraordinary as it is fragile. The forest is home to three of the countrys six endemic baobab species (Adansonia grandidieri, A. za, and A. rubrostipa) unique trees that look as though they were planted upside down. Many other endemic species live there, too, such as the critically endangered Madame Berthes mouse lemur (Microcebus berthae). This biodiversity hotspot is facing heavy threats from bushfires, used to manage arable land and pastures, that illegally breach the parks boundaries. Other issues, such as illegal logging and poaching, also threaten the forest, but fire is the main driver of forest degradation. The forests in southwestern and western Madagascar xerophytic and deciduous dry tropical forests, respectively are particularly vulnerable to bushfires. Soap2Day Shut Down By Federal Court Following Hollywood Legal Action "IndyWatch Feed Tech"

soap2day-logoMany pirate sites have attracted large volumes of traffic over the years but a relatively new breed of streaming portals have taken things to a whole new level.

Excellent traffic levels a few years ago were measured in tens of millions of visits per month, but when Soap2Day suddenly threw in the towel around June 12/13, the site was receiving at least 108 million visits. Given that traffic levels were trending up and the site had no obvious technical issues, a zero-notice termination of a hugely successful platform prompts a single question: why now?

Legal Action in Canada

Dozens of reasons lie behind the closure of hundreds of sites over the years, but its extremely rare for highly successful sites to throw in the towel for minor reasons. A catastrophic team issue was a possible explanation when Soap2Day shut itself down, but the safer money was always on legal problems.

We cant confirm the reasons from a direct source, but the following facts appear to leave very little doubt that Soap2Day shut down under massive legal pressure.

On May 31, 2023, major entertainment companies Bell Media, Netflix, Disney, Columbia, Universal, Warner, and Paramount, plus Get Er Done Productions and Spinner Productions, launched legal action at the Federal Court in Canada. The named parties were Soap2Day and a presumed operator of the platform listed only as John Doe.

The plaintiffs immediately sought an interim confidentiality order and on June 7, the Court obliged. The studios requested an interlocutory injunction pursuant to section 44 of the Federal Court Act and Rule 373 of the Federal Court Rules; the latter allows the Court to issue an injunction where there is a strong case to support copyright infringement and the plaintiffs face irreparable harm.

In short, the Court ordered the site to shut down and thats exactly what it did.

Plaintiffs Seek Norwich Order

In Canada and the United Kingdom, the Norwich Pharmacal Order is often the discovery weapon of choice in cases involving online copyright infringement. First acquired in a case back in 1973/74, Norwich orders allow plaintiffs to obtain information regarding infringements from parties who may not themselves be involved in the alleged infringement. In this case, two service providers.

The Complex History of the Intel i960 RISC Processor "IndyWatch Feed Tech"

http://www.righto.com/2023/07/the-complex-history-of-intel-i960-risc.html

The Intel i960 was a remarkable 32-bit processor of the 1990s with a confusing set of versions. Although it is now mostly forgotten (outside the many people who used it as an embedded processor), it has a complex history. It had a shot at being Intel's flagship processor until x86 overshadowed it. Later, it was the world's best-selling RISC processor. One variant was a 33-bit processor with a decidedly non-RISC object-oriented instruction set; it became a military standard and was used in the F-22 fighter this blog post, I'll take a look at the history of the i960, explain its different variants, and examine silicon dies. This chip has a lot of mythology and confusion (especially on Wikipedia), so I'll try to clear things up.

The ancestry of the i960 starts in 1975, when Intel set out to design a "micro-mainframe", a revolutionary processor that would bring the power of mainframe computers to microprocessors. This project, eventually called the iAPX 432, was a huge leap in features and complexity. Intel had just released the popular 8080 processor in 1974, an 8-bit processor that kicked off the hobbyist computer era with computers such as the Altair and IMSAI. However, 8-bit microprocessors were toys compared to 16-bit minicomputers like the PDP-11, let alone mainframes like the 32-bit IBM System/370. Most companies were gradually taking minicomputer and mainframe features and putting them into microprocessors, but Intel wanted to leapfrog to a mainframe-class 32-bit processor. The processor would make programmers much more productive by bridging the "semantic gap" between high-level languages and simple processors, implementing many features directly into the processor.

The 432 processor included memory management, process management, and interprocess communication. These features were traditionally part of the operating system, but Intel built them in the processor, calling this the "Silicon Operating System". The processor was also one of the first to implement the new IEEE 754 floating-point standard, still in use by most processors. The 432 also had support for fault tolerance and multi-processor systems. One of the most unusual features of the 432 was that instructions weren't byte aligned. Instead, instructions were between 6 and 321 bits long, and you could jump into the middle of a byte. Another unusual feature was that the 432 was a st...

Taking a dagger to the 'soft underbelly': How the West has opened yet another front against Russia "IndyWatch Feed World"

In the first half of 2023, both the European Union and the United States were noticeably active in Central Asia - which is regarded by some as Russia's "soft underbelly." Many Western European and American politicians and diplomats frequented the region and attempted to pull the ex-Soviet republics of Kazakhstan, Tajikistan, Uzbekistan, Kyrgyzstan, and Turkmenistan over to their side in the ongoing conflict with Moscow. The West wants to convince those states to support sanctions on Russia and block parallel imports to the country. It has promised compensation for financial losses. Moreover, Western European leaders see the likes of Kazakhstan as a source of natural resources that could potentially replace Moscow. With all this recent attention, Central Asia is becoming increasingly aware of its own political importance - but will this lead it to break ties with Russia, as the West hopes?

The Traitor Class "IndyWatch Feed War"

Ray DiLorenzo Canada Free Press July 2, 2023

The anguish that I feel having to stare at my computer screen to begin another article is getting too familiar. I feel like Im expected to write another Twilight Zone script, not believing anything I write. But, I go on. I write what I see, and its not pretty.

What America is up against is unlike anything we have ever encountered or experienced. It has the potential of being more bloody than the Civil War and more threatening than both world wars. But now we face an army of traitorsa traitor class, domestic enemies working behind the scenes in shadow. They are dividing our country, destroying our freedom, our democratic republic, our sovereignty, our Judeo Christian values, our morality, the family unit, our culture, even our monuments to American heroes. They are spending us into oblivion as Cloward and Piven envisioned.

The Left is planning to deliver The United States to the New World Order

The traitors are accomplishing this because they are getting no opposition.

A lot of people are confused. They think it is just politics. It is not just politics. The Left is planning to deliver The United States to the New World Order in the next very few years and they are on schedule.

They are globalists, more loyal to their political party and to globalism than they are to their country. They number in the many hundreds, maybe thousands. They have taken over the Executive Branch, the Justice Department, certainly the FBI. Half of the Senate and half of the House. Almost the entire school system is teaching values contrary to our culture and religion

The scheme began many years ago, but accelerated to the final struggle with the Obama Administration, working tirelessly to convince Americans that we are racists living in a racist country. We dont deserve our freedom, we misused it to oppress a minority groupblah, blah, blah. Obamas legacy is one of racial division, economic decline, terrorist appeasement, and his war on the middle class. Now that Biden is president, Obamas fingerprints are on everything Biden does. And why not, the two administrations are identical. Biden is merely continuing Obamas assault on national sovereignty and capitalism via Obamas own hand.

You can be reasonably certain any politician with a D after their name is in on it. The Democrat Party is more of a criminal organization than a political party.

People are beginning to see something is afoot. And they dont like what they see

Luckily, or maybe because some of us are working so hard informing people as to what is going on, people are beginning to see something is afoot. And they dont like what they see.

People dont like seeing thei...

France Has Fallen: 17-year-old Victim was Gangbanger with 15-Count Rap Sheet and History of Running Police Stops "IndyWatch Feed War"

Nahel M. is on the far right of the photo above making pistol gesture with his fingers

Richard Abelson The Gateway Pundit July 2, 2023

Rioting continued in France Saturday night, after 17-year-old Algerian Nahel M. was killed after a high-speed chase in Paris suburb Nanterre Tuesday. While Mainstream Media fan the flames of hate and violence by blaming the police and portraying Nahel as an innocent victim, the 17-year old hoodlum had a long police record and appeared in a cop-hating gangsta rap video just last month.

At 8 a.m. on Tuesday, June 27, two motorcycle officers saw Nahel M. in a high-powered, bright yellow Mercedes A-Class AMG with Polish license plates, racing through Nanterre, and gave chase. The 17-year old led them on a pursuit over sidewalks, through red lights and down bus lanes until finally forced to stop by traffic at 8:16 am.

The two officers dismounted and confronted the homicidal maniac at gunpoint, demanding he cut the engine. Instead, Nahel M floored it, striking the officer in front of his windshield and possibly triggering the gunshot which hit him fatally in the chest. The speeding sports car then struck an obstacle and flipped on its roof. One passenger fled on foot and one was arrested.

Nahel was 17, too young to have a French drivers license. The Mercedes A Class AMG typically has 300 Horsepower and can do 0 to 60 mph in 4.7 seconds. The vehicle with Polish license plates was reported to be a rental, of the kind young migrant men like to use for Fast & Furious style road races, which often recklessly endanger innocent lives. The brave officers thus can be said to be completely justified in ending Nahels rampage at gunpoint.

Nonetheless, the hero officer is now being charged with voluntary homicide. French President Macron stabbed the officer doing his duty in the back by calling the young hoodlums death inexplicable, inexcusable, all but guaranteeing the courageous officer will not receive a fair trial. French President Emmanuel Macron married his school teacher and has posed with semi-nude gangsters.

Despite not having a license, Nahel had previously been stopped by police at least 5 times and...

Highly Prescribed Benign Medication Detected in 10 Percent of Overdose Deaths "IndyWatch Feed Tech"

The truth is that we have a real problem, and it is all about follow up. A huge amount of pertinent clinical information is lost after the prescription itself is signed.  Yet that happens to be the most important data out there and it may well be easily collected.

The doctor collects say twenty dollars per prescription, which is signed off by the pharmacist and the patient is asked to report after completion to recover his money.  Think prepaid card with set questions.

in this manner every prescription participates in a continuing live clinical trial.  It naturally picks up off label applications and collect data allowing even follow up interviews if deemed valuable.

Highly Prescribed Benign Medication Detected in 10 Percent of Overdose Deaths

May 13 2022

A commonly prescribed painkiller and anticonvulsant (seizure medication) widely believed to be benign has become increasingly associated with overdose deaths in the United States.

The medication is gabapentin, commonly marketed as Neurontin, Horizant, and Gralise.

Over the years, gabapentin prescribing has steadily increased, with 64 million prescriptions dispensed in 2016, making the drug the 10th most prescribed medication.

By 2019, this number increased to 69 million, putting the drug in the top 7 most prescribed drugs.

Aluminum: The Brain Toxin Found Everywhere, Ways to Remove "IndyWatch Feed Tech"

This narritive has been grinding along for decades to little effect.  Aluminium is never really by itself and mobile only as an oxidant mostly.  Is it more risky than rust?

Inasmuch as we evolved with no end of Al complexes in nature, it is hard to take any of the claims too seriously.  And over half a century, the science remains unsettled.  Perhaps aluminum dust from the sahara needs to push global warming.

Even the known associations are actually low level linkages and likely not prove of causation.  I have a better chance with Round up.

What Can We Do with Moon Dust? "IndyWatch Feed Tech"

it is claimed that known rock samples conform to early earth rocks. Now here we learn that hte surface dust is rather different.  I think that we are still clueless.

The obvious source of dust is vaporized impact debris.  Then modification by a billion years of irradiation.

Less obvious is plasma dust which we have not actually sampled.

We can actually count the number of impact craters and from all that predict the total amount of energy involved.  I do not think it is as much as we want to think.  This makes plasma dust an appealing option.

At least we are now going back to gather samples again.

What Can We Do with Moon Dust?

Lunar soil is rich with clues about our origin and future home in space. Scientists cant wait to get their hands dirty.

This August, a Russian rocket is scheduled to leave Earth bound for the south polar region of the moon. It will be carrying Luna 25, a lunar lander charged with the mission of better understanding our rocky satellites surface. NASA has a similar planned mission, scheduled to launch in November. And Indias latest lunar lander, scheduled for launch in July will likely do some digging around in the dust, too.

Why the sudden surge in global interest in the surface of the moonwhich might seem rather, well, uninteresting, save for a few footprints and a couple of golf balls?

Billions of years of impacts have ground it into a fine, sharp-edged powder.

It turns out that the surface of the moon is full of mysteries, particularly its fine dust covering. In th...

Inferances from Remembering the future. "IndyWatch Feed Tech"

We all spend too much of our lives thinking about what may have been.  Yet you chose your path.  you were given that much and it is the definition of free will however narrow the choice happens to be.

Such contemplations though are usually good entertainment at least and we usually do not dwell too long on the nasty parts.  remember just how little we really remember.  Somehow i learned early to look forward and remember only what i needed then.  That will surprise you a few times.

I even recall struggling with a type problem in first year calculus and then a year later, never looking at it again, showing another first year student easily just how to solve that type of problem.  curious.

my take home is that our memory, or at least my memory can jump back and forth through TIME and efficiently pick my points.  this surely means a lot.  Inspect your own memories for any such behavior.

I do call this remembering the future.  It is what separates biological memory from mechanical memory as evolving now through AI and also evolved out of plasma.  this is a pretty strong assertion and also a limiting conjecture.  It certainly explains just why biolgical life even exists which is to see the future better.  We even can detect pathways converging on our best future as well.  forever optimistic here.

since all life is doing this, a lot is explained.  Predation must actually suppress this phenom in order to eat.  And of course range matters which is why we use tools.  This suggests that the FAll from Eden included not just a loss of mind to m...

Students should be taught how to counter conspiracy theories on the school curriculum, a University of Cambridge scholar has said.

Prof Sander van der Linden, an expert on social psychology, said that one of the solutions to conspiracist thinking could be to implement this stuff in national education curriculums.

Speaking about his new book, Foolproof, at the Chalke Valley History Festival in Wiltshire, he added that Finland scored highly on the ability to spot misinformation and that this was because they are preparing kids, you know teenagers, on how to spot propaganda.

I mean, historically, theyve shared a border with Russia for a long time so theyre keenly aware of the dangers of propaganda, he added.

And I think we would probably be well served by making sure again not telling our kids and our students what they need to believe, but preparing them to spot the techn...

Theres too much Canada, not too little "IndyWatch Feed War"

A kid that already has handfuls of candies wants to take another whack at the piata before others have had their first turn. That about sums up the foreign ministers position on Canadian power in international affairs.

Canada needs greater international influence, according to Melanie Joly. While the Foreign Affairs Ministers recent comment elicited some commentary, no one has mentioned the inegalitarian, even supremacist, nature of her position.

In We need to increase our influence: Joly wants to increase Canadas impact on the world stage, CTV quoted the minister saying, What were seeing is that the worlds power structures are moving, and therefore we need to be there to defend our interests without compromising our values, and we need to increase our influence.

But, by almost every important measure, Canada has outsized influence over global affairs.

A member of the G7, Canada joined the US and Britain in instigating NATO and the Bretton Woods institutions (International Monetary Fund and World Bank). Eight decades later Canadas voting share within the multilateral financial institutions is five times its share of the global population and Canada has participated in every major NATO deployment. It currently leads one of four NATO battle groups in eastern Europe on Russias doorstep.

According to the Department of National Defence, Canadian troops are deployed on two dozen international missions. Canadian Forces also has bases in Jamaica, Kuwait and Germany, which gives this country more international bases than far larger countries such as China and India.

Canada has long ranked among the worlds top military spenders. According to the Stockholm International Peace Research Institute, Ottawa spent more on its military than all but 12 countries in 2020. It is one of only five members of NATO, note Royal Military College professors Christian Leuprecht and Joel Sokolsky, with a ...

Heres Why Google DeepMinds Gemini Algorithm Could Be Next-Level AI "IndyWatch Feed Tech"

Recent progress in AI has been startling. Barely a weeks gone by without a new algorithm, application, or implication making headlines. But OpenAI, the source of much of the hype, only recently completed their flagship algorithm, GPT-4, and according to OpenAI CEO Sam Altman, its successor, GPT-5, hasnt begun training yet.

Its possible the tempo will slow down in coming months, but dont bet on it. A new AI model as capable as GPT-4, or more so, may drop sooner than later.

This week, in an interview with Will Knight, Google DeepMind CEO Demis Hassabis said their next big model, Gemini, is currently in development, a process that will take a number of months. Hassabis said Gemini will be a mashup drawing on AIs greatest hits, most notably DeepMinds AlphaGo, which employed reinforcement learning to topple a champion at Go in 2016, years before experts expected the feat.

New Phosphorous Mineral Produced By A Lightning Strike "IndyWatch Feed Nthamerica"

IFL Science

Much has yet to be discovered about our very own planet and scientists are constantly in search of new findings.

For this case, a lightning strike has produced a brand new phosphorus mineral, very much like those found on meteorites and in space.

The bolt that struck the rock had managed to create a chemical reaction that has never been seen before. This managed to give make a member of a new mineral group, a mixture of something between space minerals and minerals that are found in our home planet.

In fact, this may be why researchers believe lightning strikes like these could have produced chemicals that kick-started life on this planet. The find that they made after a strike on a tree in New Port Richey, Florida. The fulgurite produced was then sold by the landowners to a geoscientist who had it analyzed to see what it was made of.

Fulgurites are formed when there is high-energy electrical discharge of lightning going through rock, soil, and sand. The strike melts these components and produces a fossil out of a lightning strike. Fulgurites were studied in test tubes and in the desert landscapes of the Sahara. The experts did this so that...

Apple, Google, Walmart, Staples And Best Buy are Recycling Devices For Free, And Theyll Even Pay For Shipping "IndyWatch Feed Nthamerica"

Tech Republic

A recent survey has found that half of Americans firmly believe that major companies should be held accountable for the waste generated by their products. These 5 large conglomerates include Apple, Walmart, Google, Staples and Walmart. In a commendable move, these five corporations are already taking steps to address this growing concern.

Apple, which stands out as the frontrunner in this regard, has already been at the forefront of green gadget recycling programs since 1994. Having gone beyond just iPhones and Macs, Apple collects a wide range of devices, including Android models and Windows computers, from numerous countries. By diverting tons of electronic waste from landfills and salvaging precious materials, they have successfully recycled 19 million pounds of e-waste annually by 2010. This figure accounted for nearly 30% of the weight of their products sold seven years prior, effectively covering the entire lifecycle of their devices. Notably, Apple offers free recycling services and trade-in value for devices that still hold monetary worth.

Moreover, all the e-waste thats collected by Apple in North America is processed domestically, without shipping anything overseas for disposal.

Similarly, other companies like Google, incentivize recycling by offering credits or free recycling for traded-in used gadgets. They even provide the option to request a free shipping label to mail in such devices for recycling.

Another conglomerate, Staples, accepts a broad range of devices for recycling, regardless of brand, condition, or purchase location. Their extensive list of eligible items includes not only desktops, laptops, and tablets but also eReaders, shredders, monitors, GPS devices, battery backups, digital cameras, MP3 players, ink and toner, exte...

On Sunday June 25th the media in Cyprus reported a story which was then picked up by Israeli outlets:

A terror attack targeting Jews and Israelis was thwarted in Cyprus, it was reported by Cypriot media on Sunday.

According to the reports, the planned attack was believed linked to Irans Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps, which is a branch of the Iranian army and is considered a terror organization by several countries, including the United States. []

The Phile News website said the plot was thwarted by Cypriot intelligence services, in cooperation with other foreign agencies, said to be from Israel and the US.

The report said that the attackers were using the northern part of the island as a staging post for the potential attack and that Cypriot intelligence services had closely followed the cell for a number of months.

Later the same day that report was confirmed in a statement put out by Israels Prime Ministers Office.

BBC audiences did not see any coverage of that topic in the days that followed.

Britain Abandoning Northern Ireland? "IndyWatch Feed Politics.eu"

In Dil Elections 2024 Predicting the Northern Six Counties David Nesbitt paints a benign picture of elections taking place for Dail Eireann in the northern 6 counties after a shock border poll for a united Ireland in 2024. He assumes there will be a smooth transfer of sovereignty with no mention of violence or disruption and no transitionary period for Stormont.

Indeed, he assumes the election will be utterly routine with roughly the same parties contesting the elections and gaining vote shares broadly in line with past patterns. The rest of his analysis is a Michel Hehir like detailed study of who might win what seats in constituencies modelled on the current Local/Assembly/Westminster elections.

There is some suggestion that the TUV might boycott the elections entirely, presumably because of a Trump like denial of their legitimacy. The DUP are expected to campaign on an abstentionist ticket (it didnt do Sinn Fin any harm) while the UUP is transformed into The Ulster Party dedicated to representing unionist interests within the new state. The Alliance Party is said to be leaking votes to the Ulster Party and the SDLP while not much is said about Sinn Fein. We are told to expect a sequel outlining coalition options for the new All Ireland government.

It is an amusing future history fantasy exercise, but I have a feeling any such reality is likely to be rather more complex!

Firstly, there is no discussion of why the UK government might suddenly decide to call a border poll, of how the Irish government might react, and what might persuade the majority in Northern Ireland to vote in favour. Even the most ardent advocates for a united Ireland tend to see it as something that will not happen for at least another decade, if not several.

Secondly, most observers do not expect loyalists to take re-unification lying down. Whatever the democratic mandate might be, many seem sure to deride the border poll as fake. Already many unionists are calling for a revision of the Good Friday Agreement to require a super majority for re-unification, or alternatively a re-partitioning of Northern Ireland to provide a homeland with a safe unionist majority.

Thirdly, Nesbitt assumes that southern parties will simply let Sinn Fin have a free run in the north of Ireland, almost guaranteeing it the leading role in forming the first all-Ireland government. Might not some northern nationalists, uncomfortable with Sinn Fein, anxious to avoid provoking unionists further, and determined to maximise their influence in Dublin, want to be able to vote for Fianna Fail or Fine Gael candidates directly?

Alternatively, might Fianna Fail not see...

Reviving Manchesters Economy Strategies for Commercial Recovery "IndyWatch Feed War"

Greater Manchester has a lot to offer business and it will continue to grow in the future. It is home to world-leading industries, including graphene, atom splitting and digital technology. New businesses like Primo Bagel and Loaf Mcr are thriving in a post-pandemic Manchester. Their experiences have taught them the importance of adapting and diversifying.

Commercial Recovery Manchester

Whether youre in need of alcohol or drug addiction treatment, there are several options in Commercial Recovery Manchester. There are both free outpatient services and private residential recovery programmes. Each has its own benefits and drawbacks, so you should research them carefully to determine which one is right for you. Generally, outpatient rehabs offer more flexibility, but they may also have longer waiting lists. Inpatient rehabilitation is more expensive but offers more privacy and security.

Addiction can have devastating effects on a persons life, including relationships and mental health. It can even cause financial problems. Fortunately, there are many treatments available to help people overcome their addictions and return to the workforce. The first step is to admit that youre addicted and seek help from a Manchester recovery centre. Once youve done this, you can take steps to improve your quality of life. Many of the drug and alcohol rehabs in Manchester have a variety of recovery programs that are tailored to meet your specific needs. Some of these include family therapy, group therapy, and Cognitive Behavioural Therapy. You should also look for a rehab programme that has been accredited by the Care Inspectorate and that uses the latest evidence-based techniques.

A stay in rehab will also provide you with the skills needed to live a healthy and sober lifestyle. Attending AA (Alcoholics Anonymous), NA (Narcotics Anonymous), and CA (Cocaine Anonymous) meetings will also help you maintain your sobriety.

Methods Of Recovery Bolton

Having a computer that locks its screen after a few minutes of inactivity is always a good idea from a security standpoint, especially in offices where there is a lot of foot traffic. Even the five- or ten-minute activity timers that are set on most workstations arent really perfect solutions. While ideally in these situations wed all be locking our screens manually when we get up, that doesnt always happen. The only way to guarantee that this problem is solved is to use something like this automatic workstation locker.

The project is based around the LD2410 presence sensor, which is itself a small 24 GHz radar module paired with an ESP32 which simplifies the detection of objects and motion. [Enzo] paired one of these modules with a Seed Xiao nrf52840 development board to listen to the radar module and send the screen lock keyboard shortcut to the computer when it detects that the user has walked away from the machine. The only thing that [Enzo] wants to add is a blinking LED to let the user know when the device is about to timeout so that it doesnt accidentally lock the machine when not needed.

The property development and construction industry is having a lend of Australia: By promoting massive migration numbers, it keeps housing and land costs high and it keeps its own costs low. It leans on government for subsidies and it builds virtually uninsurable high-rises, , and houses which are compulsorily insured by its own special insurers, who almost never find themselves liable.[1]  And when the industry's excesses cause its practitioners to go broke, their customers are rendered homeless and bankrupt. There was never a better case for the state to take over an industry, but we find the reverse has happened.

A Master Builders Association press release issued today (3 July 23) makes some typical assertions:

Mays sharp increase in unit/apartment building approvals is welcome given the severity of shortages in the rental market," Master Builders Australia chief economist Shane Garrett commented today in a press release. He claimed this to be due to  prolonged underbuilding in the medium/high-density part of the market." But it is not the result of 'underbuilding,' as the industry well knows, it is the result of driving up demand through massive migration intakes.

The Tower of Babel. (Painting by  Pieter Bruegel the Elder.)

Going by their reproductive rate - a reflection of increasing economic and environmental pressures - if Australians had self-determination, their population would be a lot smaller.

The industry and the Master Builders have been selfishly and irresponsibly calling for - and getting - continuously increasing migration - for decades now. See, for instance, their submission to the Department of Home Affairs review of the Australian migration system: .

They persistently and guilefully ignore their success in creating overdemand and its accompanying inflationary housing-bubble.

We will need to see a sustained recovery in higher density home building volumes before the affordability crisis in our rental market starts to abate."

There will be repercussions from the U.S. Supreme Courts decision that rejected a GOP-led effort to change federal election rules through the independent state legislature theory (ISL). In Moore v. Harper, the Court voted 6-3 on Tuesday to reject the ISL theory, which claims that an election clause in the Constitution gives state legislature authority to control federal elections through gerrymandering electoral maps and passing laws that could harm voter rights.

This ISL legal theory argues that the Constitution of the United States delegates authority to regulate federal elections within a state to that states elected lawmakers without any checks and balances from state courts, governors, or any other bodies with legislative power, which would include independent commissions and even constitutional conventions. This theory has been interpreted from two clauses found in the Constitution Article I, Section 4, Clause 1 (The Elections Clause) and Article II, Section 1, Clause 2.

Article I, Section 4: Clause 1  Elections

The Times, Places and Manner of holding Elections for Senators and Representatives, shall be prescribed in each State by the Legislature thereof; but the Congress may at any time by Law make or alter such Regulations, except as to the Places of chusing Senators.

A plain reading of this language would support that the state legislatures have discretion. However, it then states that Congress may at any time alter those regulations by passing legislation that would then need to be signed by the President.

Article II, Section 1, Clause 2: Presidential Electors Clause

Each State shall appoint, in such Manner as the Legislature thereof may direct, a Number of Electors, equal to the whole Number of Senators and Representatives to which the State may be entitled in the Congress: but no Senator or Representative, or Person holding an Office of Trust or Profit under the United States, shall be appointed an Elector.

The phrase the Legislature thereof in both the Electors Clause and the Elections Clau...

Malaria is Back Thank Bill Gates and Oxitec "IndyWatch Feed Africa"

Cases of malaria have emerged in the US for the first time in 20 years. The timing could not be better as they are planning to release a new mRNA vaccine to combat malaria. The Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation awarded Oxitec, a biotech company, a large grant to develop genetically modified mosquitos. They are making us sick and profiting on providing us with a cure.

In April 2021, the Gates Foundation announced that 150,000 mosquitoes would be released throughout Florida. Aedes aegypti, a mosquito species known to carry infectious diseases, was set to be released in mid-2021 in both Texas and Florida. The braindead idea was that these mosquitos, although deadly to humans, cannot reproduce and therefore would eliminate the mosquito population. The number of diseased mosquitos set for release continues to increase. In August of 2020, CNN reported that 750 MILLION diseased mosquitoes were set to be released in the Florida Keys. The Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) is utterly useless and agreed to this mass experiment without analyzing the risks. Governor Ron DeSantis did nothing to prevent these GMO insects from infecting Floridians.

Oxtitec is calling this experiment Friendly Mosquito Technology. The company anticipates that it will not post a risk to animals, people, or the environment. The government, CDC, WHO, FDA, EPA, and eve...

Aspartame Deemed Carcinogenic "IndyWatch Feed World"

The World Health Organization is set to label aspartame as possibly carcinogenic. If the FDA or USDA actually considers labeling something as possibly carcinogenic, you know its bad. They let us eat and drink actual poison to improve their bottom line. Aspartame is an artificial sugar that is allegedly 200 times sweeter than the natural product. The FDA, European Food Safety Authority, Health Canada, Food Standards Australia and New Zealand, and UK Food Standards Agency and Cancer Research ALL approved the use of aspartame in independent studies. It was marketed as a sugar-free weight loss supplement, but that also proved to be false.

Replacing free sugars with NSS [non-sugar sweetener] does not help with weight control in the long term. People need to consider other ways to reduce free sugars intake, such as consuming food with naturally occurring sugars, like fruit, or unsweetened food and beverages, says Francesco Branca, WHO Director for Nutrition and Food Safety. NSS are not essential dietary factors and have no nutritional value. People should reduce the sweetness of the diet altogether, starting early in life, to improve their health.

Aspartame is in everything from diet sodas, gum, energy drinks, candies, and even sold in pure form under the brands Sugar Twin and Equal. The International Agency for Research on Cancer (IARC) found that the gastrointestinal tract hydrolyzed and absorbed aspartame, releasing aspartic acid, methanol, and phenylalanine. The liver oxidizes the methanol to formaldehyde than again to formic acid. Both methanol and formaldehyde are toxic to liver cel...

$200 Billion in COVID-19 Funding Missing "IndyWatch Feed World"

What the hell is the US government doing with our tax dollars? We just heard that the Pentagon managed to misplace $600 billion in funds to Ukraine. They simply have no idea where $600 billion wandered off to and are not investigating. Now, a watchdog group revealed that over $200 billion in COVID-19 relief funds also went M.I.A.

We already knew paycheck protection funding was widely abused. But an inspector general from the US Small Business Administration now believes AT LEAST 17% of all COVID-EIDL and PPP funds were disbursed to fraudulent actors. Fraud estimates for COVID-19 Economic Injury Disaster Loans reached $136 billion, or 33% of the entire program. Then it is estimated that an additional $64 billion was stolen from Paycheck Protection Fraud.

Government agents deny mass fraud. They say that the recent report contains serious flaws that significantly overestimate fraud and unintentionally mislead the public to believe that the work we did together had no significant impact in protecting against fraud. The problem here is that this is the money of the American people. In less than two weeks, the US government just announced they lost nearly a trillion due to bad actors and/or accounting errors. We deserve a complete overhaul of government accounting and a thorough investigation into where these funds went. Chalking it up to an accounting error or being duped is not sufficient. They need to tell the people exactly how they are spending our money, especially since they continually ask for more each year while providing nothing in return.

Our Selected Fuhrer "IndyWatch Feed World"

Under the terms and conditions set forth in the Constitution - ostensibly the document that is the literal "letter of the law" - the president is supposed to be an administrator. The person whose job it is to - as the Constitution puts it - see that the laws are faithfully executed. This is rather different than decreeing them - as for example via what are styled "executive orders." The Constitution says Congress shall write the laws, the idea being that congressmen are elected and there are a lot of them, rather than just one president. This to diffuse legal authority among many and also to hold it accountable to the many. The president is of course also elected, but in a manner that effectively renders each vote meaningless as one out of millions has the same effect as a drop of water on the depth of the ocean. Senators - the other half of Congress - were once elected by the legislatures of the various states, with the idea being that this would counterbalance the democracy the...
