Participants were aged between 12 and 25. The authors offer this straightforward conclusion: "PCC was not associated with biological markers specific to viral infection." That is, participants were equally likely to suffer from 'Long Covid', whether or not they had suffered from acute COVID-19. The researchers concluded that Long Covid is predicted by "initial symptom severity" and, intriguingly, "psychosocial factors".

Eight dolphins were found washed up on beaches in the Greater Tokyo Area on Tuesday morning, according to local news reports. Scientists have set a new record for the deepest fish ever observed at more than 27,000ft below sea level. A juvenile type of snailfish was filmed swimming at 27,349ft - nearly the same height as Mount Everest - in the Izu-Ogasawara Trench, south of Japan. Lead scientist Professor Alan Jamieson said the snailfish could be at the maximum depth any fish can survive and probably did so because of trench's warm waters. At least 20 people died after a landslide struck in the eastern Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) on 02 April 2023. News media in the country, quoting local officials and observers, said provisional figures show at least 19 people were killed and that the search for other victims was to continue. In yet another tragic incident that took place at Bardowa Luit Chapari in Majuli, five livestock died due to lightning strikes while several others were injured. According to the sources, the incident occurred around 4 pm on Sunday, when the sky was ominous and there was overcast. The livestock were grazing in an open field when the lightning struck them. The intensity of the lightning was that it killed five animals on the spot. The locals rushed to the spot upon hearing the commotion and immediately informed the local authorities. The injured animals were immediately taken to the veterinary hospital for treatment, where they are currently being treated by the doctor.

A strong magnitude 6.5 earthquake has struck the Kamchatka Peninsula in Russia's Far East, according to seismologists and residents. Strong shaking was felt near the epicenter but there is no threat of a tsunami. The earthquake struck at 03:06 p.m. local time on Monday, according to the U.S. Geological Survey (USGS), with the epicenter located about 10 kilometers from Vilyuchinsk or 28 kilometers from Petropavlovsk-Kamchatsky, the capital of the Kamchatka region. "Based on all available data, a destructive Pacific-wide tsunami is not expected," the Pacific Tsunami Warning Center said in a statement.

An official source in the Saudi Ministry of Energy stated that the Kingdom will reduce its crude oil production by 500,000 barrels per day (bpd), starting from May until the end of 2023, in coordination with a number of countries participating in the declaration of cooperation between OPEC and non-OPEC countries (OPEC+). The Biden administration cleared the way Friday for California's plan to phase out a wide range of diesel-powered trucks, part of the state's efforts to drastically cut planet-warming emissions and improve air quality in heavy-traffic areas like ports along the coast. On Friday, Twitter released the recommendation algorithm portion of its code by publishing it on GitHub, where developers post open source software data. Developer Steven Tey dug into the code and found that there is a mechanism through which the US government can "intervene" with the code. "When needed, the government can intervene with the Twitter algorithm," Tey wrote. "In fact, @TwitterEng (Twitter Engineering) even has a class for it - 'GovernmentRequested.'"
