The probable cause stated in the warrants against the activists is extremely weak. Police cited arrestees having mud on their shoes in a forest. The warrants alleged they had written a legal support phone number on their arms, as is common during mass protests. And, in a few cases, police alleged protesters were holding shields hardly proof of illegal activity which a number of defendants even deny.
Die hatten die Nummer einer Anwalts-Hotline dabei! Offensichtlich planten die illegale Dinge!1!! Das knnen wir nicht dulden, ganz klar.

What do others think of Evolutionary Psychology? "IndyWatch Feed Nthamerica"

Over there on Reddit, there is a subreddit called r/evolution for the discussion of evolutionary questions and issues. There is now consideration of a rule to clarify their stance on evolutionary psychology. Its a good one.

As you know, the moderator team has been considering the possibility of new rules to help improve things around here. And of course, we wanted to get the communitys feedback on the matter before we pulled the trigger. Please, just remember to voice your disagreements peacefully.

  • Rule #X: Evolutionary Psychology. The moderation team takes the stance that evolutionary psychology is pseudoscience. Like any pseudoscience, it starts with a conclusion rather than drawing that conclusion from data; it also tends to ignore or even demonize other fields of science that already provide information about the topics it addresses; and tends to boil personal behaviors and preferences (as well as complicated sociocultural and developmental phenomena) down to a handful of terms it uses as buzzwords to craft adaptationist/bioessentialist just-so stories that are often untested, untestable, or even wildly incorrect. Its also frequently used to justify everything from preexisting biases all the way to dehumanizing rhetoric. These posts also tend to attract a lot of baseless speculation and experts on these topics are often drowned out by negativity and downvotes, all of which is antithetical to the climate were trying to cultivate.
  • Please note that while we discourage evolutionary psychology and pseudoscience in general, simply asking questions about the evolutionary basis for certain human behaviors or cognitive traits isnt necessarily an issue: there are legitimate scientists in various fields (eg, anthropology, especially evolutionary anthropology, ethnography, behavioral genetics, etc), who study these topics with proper, physical data, and so there is information out there. However, if we feel that a question is better suited for other academics (eg, regular psychologists, historians, sociologists, philosophers, etc), if things start getting pseudoscientific, or if certain lines are crossed, we may choose to intervene.

More pithily, they say the problem is that evolutionary psychology is science in the same way that Taco Bell is authentic Mexican food. There is some polite agreement with the statement (Im not saying anything, because Id only provide loud impolite agreement) a...

Get Ready to Meet the ChatGPT Clones "IndyWatch Feed Tech"

ChatGPT might well be the most famous, and potentially valuable, algorithm of the moment, but the artificial intelligence techniques used by OpenAI to provide its smarts are neither unique nor secret. Competing projects and open-source clones may soon make ChatGPT-style bots available for anyone to copy and reuse.

Stability AI, a startup that has already developed and open-sourced advanced image-generation technology, is working on an open competitor to ChatGPT. We are a few months from release, says Emad Mostaque, Stabilitys CEO. A number of competing startups, including Anthropic, Cohere, and AI21, are working on proprietary chatbots similar to OpenAIs bot.

The impending flood of sophisticated chatbots will make the technology more abundant and visible to consumers, as well as more accessible to AI businesses, developers, and researchers. That could accelerate the rush to make money with AI tools that generate images, code, and text.

Come to Minnesota, one of the few sane states in the country "IndyWatch Feed Nthamerica"

Minnesota is doing the right thing.

Minnesotas Democratic Gov. Tim Walz signed an executive order Wednesday directing state agencies to take action to protect and support access to gender-affirming health care across the state.

All state agencies must, to the fullest extent of their lawful authority, pursue opportunities and coordinate with each other to protect people or entities providing, assisting, seeking or obtaining gender affirming health care services in Minnesota, the order says.

Gender-affirming care is medically necessary, evidence-based care that uses a multidisciplinary approach to help a person transition from their assigned gender the one the person was designated at birth to their affirmed gender the gender by which one wants to be known.

Walzs order comes as Republican-led states around the country push restrictions on such care, with at least four states this year having passed measures to outlaw gender-affirming care for minors. As part of the order, the governor is prohibiting the state from cooperating with investigations by states that aim to penalize such care, saying their actions pose a grave threat to the health of members of the LGBTQ community.

Yeah. Basically, Republican-led states have turned evil and want to actively harm their own citizens, but Minnesota will stand strong as a refuge. Join us!

Which State You Live in Matters for How Well Environmental Laws Protect Your Health "IndyWatch Feed Enviro"

By Susan Kaplan

Your child could go to gym class on Monday morning and play soccer on a field that was sprayed over the weekend with 2,4-D, a toxic weedkiller that has been investigated as possibly causing cancer. Alternatively, the school grounds may have been treated with a lower-toxicity weedkiller. Or maybe the grounds were managed with safe, nontoxic products and techniques.

Which of these scenarios applies depends in large part on your states laws and regulations today more so than federal regulations.

For example, Texas requires all school districts to adopt an integrated pest management program for school buildings; IPM prioritizes nonchemical pest control methods and includes some protections regarding spraying of groundsMassachusetts also restricts pesticide use on school grounds. Illinois requires IPM for school buildings only if economically feasible. States also vary greatly in the education and technical assistance they provide to implement these practices.

Prometei botnet evolves and infected +10,000 systems since November 2022 "IndyWatch Feed Tech"

than 10,000 systems worldwide since November 2022, experts warn.

Cisco Talos researchers reported that the Prometei botnet has infected more than 10,000 systems worldwide since November 2022. The crypto-mining botnet has a modular structure and employs multiple techniques to infect systems and evade detection.

The Prometei botnet was first observed by Cisco Talos experts on July 2020. A deep investigation on artifacts uploaded on VirusTotal allowed the experts to determine that the botnet may have been active at least since May 2016. Experts pointed out that the malware has constantly been updated by its creators with the implementation of new modules and features.

Now Talos confirms that the Prometei botnet continues to improve modules and exhibits new capabilities in recent updates.

More specifically, the botnet operators updated certain submodules of the execution chain to automate processes and challenge forensic analysis methods. reads the post published by Cisco Talos. We assess with high confidence that v3 of the Prometei botnet is of medium size, with more than 10,000 infected systems worldwide, based on data obtained by sinkholing the DGA domains over a period of one week in February 2023.

How the 8086 Processor Determines the Length of an Instruction "IndyWatch Feed Tech"

https://www.righto.com/2023/02/how-8086-processor-determines-length-of.html

The Intel 8086 processor (1978) has a complicated instruction set with instructions ranging from one to six bytes long. This raises the question of how the processor knows the length of an instruction.1 The answer is that the 8086 uses an interesting combination of lookup ROMs and microcode to determine how many bytes to use for an instruction. In brief, the ROMs perform enough decoding to figure out if it needs one byte or two. After that, the microcode simply consumes instruction bytes as it needs them. Thus, nothing in the chip explicitly "knows" the length of an instruction. This blog post describes this process in more detail.

[...] The 8086 uses a 6-byte instruction prefetch queue to hold instructions, and this queue will play an important role in this discussion.3 Earlier microprocessors read instructions from memory as they were needed, which could cause the CPU to wait on memory. The 8086, instead, read instructions from memory before they were needed, storing them in the instruction prefetch queue. (You can think of this as a primitive instruction cache.) To execute an instruction, the 8086 took bytes out of the queue one at a time. If the queue ran empty, the processor waited until more instruction bytes were fetched from memory into the queue.

Missing Ukrainian girl Rescued From Russian Re-Education Camp "IndyWatch Feed Nthamerica"

KYIV, Ukraine Tetiana Vlaiko feels like an idiot. She is ashamed to speak to WhoWhatWhy about how the Russians took her 11-year-old daughter Lilia to Russian-occupied Crimea. She says that last October, the teachers at her daughters school in Kherson convinced her to send Lilia to what they called a summer camp.

It turned out to be a Russian re-education facility.

All the mothers at the school signed up. Probably, I could have said no, but the teachers kept saying that all kids are going, it is for free, and she will come back in two weeks, said 36-year-old Vlaiko.

Vlaiko said that she initially thought it would be good for her daughter to get away from Kherson for a short period. At the time, the city was under Russian control, and the Ukrainians were fighting to get the city back. Life there was dangerous. Vlaiko says there were rumors of Russian brutality and rape of people on the streets and a constant risk of shelling.

Crimea was (and still is) also under Russian control, but it was safer than Kherson.

Lilia was supposed to be home on October 21. She didnt show up, and neither did any of her classmates.

I called the teachers when I realized she wasnt returning. I tried to find out what was happening, but they didnt answer, said Vlaiko, who explained that some teachers picked up the phone at the beginning and said they didnt know when or if the kids would return.

She told WhoWhatWhy that the school closed for good after the kids were taken.

At one point in late October, Vlaiko and other parents found the schools director, who told them the kids werent returning. She recalls him saying there was nothing he could do about it and that he was planning to leave Kherson and go to another Russian-controlled area. Vlaiko told WhoWhatWhy that he seemed very pro-Russian.

It became clear that they never intended to send my daughter back. I got crazy hysterical and was full of guilt, said Vlaiko.I should never have told her she could go.

She didnt see her daughter again for almost four months.

A Fancy Connected Caliper For Not A Lot "IndyWatch Feed Tech"

An essential for the engineer is a decent caliper, to measure dimensions with reasonable accuracy. Some of us have old-fashioned Vernier scales, while many up-to-date versions are electronic. When entering large numbers of dimensions into a CAD package matters can become a little tedious, so the fancier versions have connectivity for automatic reading transfer. [Mew463] didnt want to shell out the cash for one of those, so modified a cheaper caliper with an ESP32-C3 microcontroller to provide a Bluetooth interface.

Many cheaper calipers have a handy hidden serial port, and its to this interface the mod is connected via a simple level shifter. The ESP and associated circuitry is mounted on a custom PCB on the back of the caliper body, with a very neatly designed case also holding a small Li-Po cell. It adds a little bulk to the instrument, but not enough to render it unusable. Whether the work required to design and build it is worth the cost saving over an off-the-shelf connected caliper is left to the reader to decide.

Weve covered similar hacks in the past, but this ones to a very high standard. Meanwhile if calipers are of interest to you then theyre...

LAGOS MARCH 8TH (URHOBOTODAY)-Delta State Police Commissioner, Mr. Ali Mohammed Ari, yesterday, revealed that scores of police personnel were undergoing orderly room trial at Delta State Police Headquarters, in Asaba, for allegedly aiding politicians to disrupt or manipulate election results in February 25, 2023 elections.

Ari, who made the revelation at the stakeholders roundtable advocacy meeting held in Asaba, did not mention the number of officers being quizzed for tempering with the rules of the game.

Ari, who spoke via CSP Danjuma Alex, however, assured Delta residents of their safety at various polling units during the next governorship and House of Assembly elections on March 18, 2023.

The Director of National Orientation Agency, Mr. Chris Anyabuine, said Nigerias democracy was on course, but we must embrace the culture of getting things done right, at all times. He advised both the politicians and electorates to play by the rules of the game since we are still in a learning process. He said election should not be seen as a do-or- die affairs.

The Asagba of Asaba, Prof. Chike Edozien,, represented by Chief Christopher Chukwura, said INECs refusal to adhere to its own laws was anti-democratic. He said the repeat of incidents that occurred during the February 25 presidential elections in the governorship elections would spell disaster for the country.

On his part, the State Secretary of National Union of Road Transport Workers (NURTW), Chief Tony Igwebuike blamed INEC for the lateness in the distribution of electoral materials to the various wards. He called for adequate logistics to mitigate challenges that could disenfranchise some voters.

But poll results suggest that time could be his enemy and that the moment calls for leadership not party management.

A large majority of DUP supporters do not like what they currently know about the Framework. 73% say they would vote against it if there were a referendum on the issue.

That will come as no news to the DUP leadership. What will give them pause is that only a half of DUP supporters (54%) want the partys boycott of Stormont to continue.

So, his supporters are currently divided down the middle on what to do about the Framework, while a quarter of his partys supporters would not even vote against it. The party is very conscious of the support it could, and did, lose to the TUV for not being seen as strong enough in its opposition to the Protocol. An equally large segment of its support could now be at risk if it takes an equally strong stance against the Framework.

Donaldson wants to avoid having to alienate either segment of his partys voters. And there is a worst case scenario in which delay ends up upsetting both, with the party losing anti-Framework voters to the TUV at one end, while at the other the UUP, and even Alliance, take those who want Stormont restored.

This double danger could increase as long as the DUP position remains unclear. We can expect Jim Allister to campaign strongly against the Framework, while Alliance will argue the need for restored devolved government. In the absence of a firm line from the DUP these are the two positions that the public will hear and will be influenced by.

The importance of that influence should not be overlooked. Polls in the US and here in NI have shown that these days, along with social media, politicians and political parties are a major source of information for the public. More specifically many people look to politicians they trust for information on political issues. A recent Lucid Talk poll found that more people have a high level of trust in the TUV than in the DUP on the issue of the Protocol, while Naomi Long and Colum Eastwood were the most trusted overall.

The UUP will either adopt and amplify one of these positions or, if it too prevaricates, will have little influence on the debate (although that does not mean that they could not still achieve some electoral benefit.) 56% of UUP voters would back the Framework in a referendum.

A policy of delay has many attractio...

The Company Testing Air in East Palestine Homes Was Hired by Norfolk Southern. Experts Say That Testing Isnt Enough. "IndyWatch Feed Nthamerica"

ProPublica is a nonprofit newsroom that investigates abuses of power. Sign up to receive our biggest stories as soon as theyre published.

Last month, Brenda Foster stood on the railroad tracks at the edge of her yard in East Palestine, Ohio, and watched a smoky inferno billow from the wreckage of a derailed train. The chemicals it was carrying and the fire that consumed them were so toxic that the entire area had to evacuate. Foster packed up her 87-year-old mother, and they fled to stay with relatives.

With a headache, sore throat, burning eyes and a cough, Foster returned home five days later as soon as authorities allowed. So when she saw on TV that there was a hotline for residents with health concerns, she dialed as soon as the number popped up on the screen.

The people who arrived offered to test the air inside her home for free. She was so eager to learn the results, she didnt look closely at the paper they asked her to sign. Within minutes of taking measurements with a hand-held machine, one of them told her they hadnt detected any harmful chemicals. Foster moved her mother back the same day.

What she didnt realize is that the page of test results that put her mind at ease didnt come from the government or an independent watchdog. CTEH, the contractor that provided them, was hired by Norfolk Southern, the operator of the freight train that derailed.

And, according to several independent experts consulted by ProPublica in collaboration with the Guardian, the air testing results did not prove their homes were truly safe. Erin Haynes, a professor of environmental health at the University of Kentucky, said the air tests were inadequate in two ways: They were not designed to detect the full range of dangerous chemicals the derailment may have unleashed, and they did not sample the air long enough to accurately capture the levels of chemicals they were testing for.

Its almost like if you want to find nothing, you run in and run out, Haynes said.

Are Colorados Efforts to Curb HOA Foreclosures Working? "IndyWatch Feed Nthamerica"

This article was produced for ProPublicas Local Reporting Network in partnership with Rocky Mountain PBS. Sign up for Dispatches to get stories like this one as soon as they are published.

Last year, when the Colorado legislature passed a bill aimed at protecting residents in disputes with their homeowners associations, lawmakers had one key goal in mind: reducing the number of foreclosures filed by HOAs.

So far, the reform appears to have had its intended effect. An analysis of state court data by Rocky Mountain PBS and ProPublica shows that HOAs filed 47 foreclosure cases in the nearly six months between Aug. 10, when the law took effect, and the end of January. Thats a significant drop from the same period for the previous four years, when an average of 281 cases per year were filed.

During the 10 weeks between the reform bills signing and its implementation, HOAs appear to have been in a rush to start foreclosure motions, filing 151 cases, compared to an average of 98 cases per year in the same 10-week period for the previous four years.

We see that this is working. Its preventing people from being foreclosed on, and people are being able to stay in their homes, said Rep. Naquetta Ricks, an Aurora Democrat who cosponsored the bill.

But advocates and some lawmakers say more needs to be done to address lingering problems with how HOAs are run in Colorado. For one thing, the drop in foreclosure filings might be only temporary. HOA attorneys told Rocky Mountain PBS and ProPublica that the drop may be due to HOAs restarting their collection efforts the law requires most HOAs to update their collection policies, provide homeowners with several notifications about delinquencies and offer longer payment plans. Once theyve complied with the new rules, HOAs may decide to restart their foreclosure efforts.

Ricks said she plans to introduce a number of fixes during the current legislative session aimed at undoing some unintended consequences of last years reform bill. She said the changes would primarily be focused on the aspects of the law that dictat...

Karl Paymah was on the clock.

A certified letter from the Rock Ridge Condominium Association in the Denver suburb of Aurora said he had 30 days to pay $1,515.45 in unpaid homeowners association dues and penalties or face foreclosure.

After receiving the letter on Dec. 23, 2021, Paymah said he tried to pay the balance through the HOAs website, as he had done in the past. But his account had been locked because it was turned over to the HOAs collections attorney, Tammy Alcock. Next, he called Rock Ridges management company, which he said told him to discuss the matter with Alcock. But there was no answer when he called her office three times that afternoon. The office of Alcock Law Group was closed for the holiday.

I cant pay. I cant pay through the portal. I cant pay with the management company. I cant pay with this attorney that theyre telling me to go through, Paymah, a retired NFL cornerback, recalled thinking. So Im just sitting there.

Watch Rocky Mountain PBSs Report (Jeremy Moore/Rocky Mountain PBS)

Turning the account over to Alcock meant that the association was asserting its right under Colorado law to charge him for the attorney fees it was incurring, causing his debt to grow rapidly.

By early February, when Rock Ridge began moving forward with foreclosure, the legal process of taking the home from its owner, Paymahs debt had more than tripled to about $5,000, mostly because of legal costs.

Paymahs experience is a case study in how even a small dispute can quickly escalate into an expensive legal fight in Colorado, where state law empowers HOAs to initiate foreclosure proceedings against homeowners who owe money to them. As Rocky Mountain PBS and ProPublica have reported,...

A non-governmental organisation, Connected Development, had recently commenced the tracking of abandoned projects in the Ndokwa West Local Government Area of the state.

Some of the projects being tracked are the construction of a Multipurpose Hall at the School of Marine Technology Umusam-Ogbe awarded by the Niger Delta Development Commission, construction of Modern Civic Centre and Museum awarded by the Delta State Oil Producing Areas Development Commission in Isumpe community among others.

Speaking at a town hall meeting organised by CODE in collaboration with OXFAM at their respected communities, the Delta State Support Officer, Mr Ugochukwu Alexander, said the meeting was to get the community buy-in and permission from the people in tracking the projects.

He said, We cannot just enter the communities and start tracking these projects. Thats why we came to you having identified these projects.

CODE is to amplify the communities voices and help to track these abandoned projects with a view to drawing the governments attention to them.

He noted that the government had continued approving new projects on a daily basis but failed to complete the already approved projects, explaining that factors that might contribute to abandoned projects include inflation, youth restiveness among others.

A Love Letter to the Sphere Computer "IndyWatch Feed Tech"

[Ben Z] loves the Sphere computer, a very early entry in the personal computer boom of the mid 1970s. The 6800 CPU was unique in its day that it was a full system at least in theory. If you could afford the whole system, you got a nice case with a keyboard and a memory-mapped display board. You can see a great video tour of the system below the break.

The Sphere suffered from a few problems, none of which were easily foreseeable by its designer. First, the 6800 didnt get the traction that the 8080-derived CPUs did. Second, the S-100 bus would prove to be popular but that nearly always meant an 8080-type processor in practice. Third, while an all-in-one system was the right idea, it was pricey at the time, and many people would opt for something less expensive even if it had less capability. People also wanted to leverage hardware they may have already had. It was easier to imagine hooking up a surplus TeleType, for example, to a more conventional computer than to a Sphere that expected its own display hardware and keyboard.

The night I brought it home I heard a rustling in my room. Had something scurried? A mouse? Three jumpy nights passed before I realized what was happening: The plant was moving. During the day, its leaves would splay flat, sunbathing, but at night theyd clamber over one another to stand at attention, their stems steadily rising as the leaves turned vertical, like hands in prayer.

Who knew plants do stuff? I marveled. Suddenly plants seemed more interesting. When the pandemic hit, I brought more of them home, just to add some life to the place, and then there were more, and more still, until the ratio of plants to...

March 18th Election: Labour Party Chieftain Urges Deltans To Shun Iboris Antic, APC, PDP "IndyWatch Feed Africa"

Obi-Pela-Umukoro-26-feature

LP presidential flagbearer, Peter Obi (left); LP Governorship candidate, Deacon Ken Pela and his running mate, Prof. Julie Nwabogo-Umukoro

LAGOS MARCH 11TH (URHOBOTODAY)-Delta State Labour Party Chieftain, Chief Ajufo  urges Delta state electorates to shun  recent moves by the former governor of Delta State, James Ibori and his boys who are migrating in droves from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) into the All Progressives Congress (APC) ahead of the Saturday, March 11, gubernatorial poll, which has now been postponed to March 18.

Chief Ajufo alleged that former Governor Ibori is now scheming to reclaim his godfather or grand commander position through support for his godson, guber candidate of APC and Deputy Senate President, Senator Ovie Omo-Agege.

The Labour Party chieftain said Deltans needed to be wary of Omo-Ageges governorship bid, as it is a backdoor for Ibori to re-take control of the management of the states resources in a manner likely to be worse than the 1999 2007 era when he was governor.

Ajufo described the APC as PDP-2 trying to upstage Governor Ifeanyi Okowas PDP-1 from power, saying Deltans should reward both of them with electoral defeat since both parties have run the country (APC 8 years) and Delta State (PDP 24 years) badly. He argued that none of them deserves to occupy the seat of power in Asaba come May 29, 2023.

According to  Ajufo, We must sever our links with the people from both parties that have collectively ruined the fortunes of this oil-rich state by running it aground since 1999, he noted.

He added, This is a gathering of vultures and it does not augur well for our beloved Delta State. Ibori wants to use the APC backdoor to reclaim his faded godfather status since all his allies are dumping PDP in droves and moving over to APC.

The signs are not good for Deltans who have been pauperised for so many years in spite of the huge oil wealth that comes to the state monthly. I urge Deltans to see through the evil thats about to befall them if they elect Ovie Omo-Agege. Of course, PDP is dead,...

After Neo-Nazis Threaten March by Trans Youth, Proud Boys Associate Pulls Gun While Sacramento Police Look On "IndyWatch Feed Nthamerica"

Over 75 pro-LGBTQ+ and antifascist demonstrators rallied in downtown Sacramento on March 10th, opposing a much smaller anti-trans rally that attracted neo-Nazis and far-Right activists. The anti-trans rally was organized by up and coming conservative star Chloe Cole of nearby Manteca, CA. Cole has become a darling in conservative and far-Right circles, after the 18 year-old announced plans to sue medical giant Kaiser for providing her with gender-confirming female-to-male medical procedures, and has since appeared along-side far-Right anti-trans grifters like Matt Walsh and also addressed the recent Conservative Political Action Conference (CPAC), where Michael Knowles called for transgender people to be eradicated from public life entirely.

Neo-Nazis post online threats against trans march in Sacramento, CA.

In the lead up to the counter-demonstration against the anti-trans rally on March 10th which was called by Pride Was a Riot Sacramento, neo-Nazi groups made multiple threats online against the mobilization, writing, It would be a shame if a group of white nationalists were to show up, one post stated. Another called for their followers to, Bring PPE for pepper spray and monkey pox.

Pride Was a Riot could not take to Twitter to report these violent threats however, as far-Right conspiracy peddler Andy Ngo had gotten them kicked off the platform only hours before, after Ngo complained to Elon Musk that PWAR had posted a photo of a flyer t...

Nwaoboshi Ex-Aide Recounts How Omo-Agege Relocates Fed Poly From Kwale-Ndokwa To Orogun "IndyWatch Feed Africa"

OMO-AGEGE 7

By Christian Onwugbolu

LAGOS MARCH 11TH (URHOBOTODAY)-The people of Ndokwa Nation (Ukwuani, Ndokwa East, Ndokwa West) for years have been clamouring for the establishment of a government-owned higher institution of learning in their land so they could benefit from what such projects brings to the people.

The Ndokwa people are no doubt the second largest ethnic group in Delta State after the Urhobos.

Prior to Ndokwa people fighting to own just one higher institution of learning in their land, the Urhobos already have several higher institutions which include the Federal University of Petroleum Resources Effurun, Petroleum Training Institute, Effurun, Delta State University, Abraka, Delta State Polytechnic Oghara, School of Nursing Sapele, Delta State Teaching Hospital Oghara, School of Nursing, Eku and many others not mentioned.

On Thursday 25th January 2018, the Senator representing Delta North Senatorial District, Sen. Peter Nwaoboshi in a bid to ensure that there is some level of fairness in the siting of higher institutions in Delta State and with the clamour of Ndokwa people, initiated and presented the Bill for the Establishment of Federal Polytechnic Kwale.

The bill, Federal Polytechnic Kwale, Delta State (Est, etc) Bill, 2018 (SB. 603) was laid on the floor of the 8th Senate and passed First Reading. The 8th Senate was under the leadership of Sen. Abubakar Bukola Saraki.

The news of this bill echoed across the length and breadth of Ndokwa Nation and caused great jubilation amongst the people.

Mind you, Ovie Omo-Agege was the senator representing Delta Central during this period and was in the house too when this Kwale Polytechnic bill was hovering and gaining ground.

Fast forward to the 14th of February 2018, the Bill for the establishment of a Federal Polytechnic Kwale passed second reading and was successful in the Senate before the very eyes of Ovie Omo-Agege.

The hopes of the Ndokwa people again were brought to a higher octave as their young graduates who have been out of jobs upon graduation began to dust their CVs while others were optimistic about getting jobs as non-academic staff too. All this was due to the speed at which the bill was gathering momentum and its popularity.

A brief stop over to Wednesday 11th July 2018, a Public Hearing was held by the Senate Committee on...

The Empire of Lies Strikes Back Extraordinary Cover-Up of Nord Stream Terrorism "IndyWatch Feed Africa"

Strategic Review March 10, 2023

The New York Times and other Western news media ran with clumsy and blatantly diversionary claims this week, which in the end only serve to draw even more attention to the guilt of the United States in blowing up the Nord Stream gas pipelines.

Not only is the administration of U.S. President Joe Biden even more indictable over the criminal act; the absurd cover-up attempt this week exposes the Western media as nothing but a ministry of propaganda masquerading as journalism.

Four weeks ago, the eminent independent American journalist, Seymour Hersh, published a blockbuster investigative report that revealed how President Biden and senior White House staff ordered the explosive detonation of the natural gas pipelines connecting Russia to the European Union via the Baltic Sea and Germany. The legendary Hersh has an impeccable record of groundbreaking stories, from the My Lai massacre committed by U.S. troops in Vietnam in 1968 to the Abu Ghraib prison torture in Iraq under American occupation to the operation of ratlines to funnel weapons and mercenaries from Libya to Syria to fight Washingtons proxy war for regime change in Damascus.

In his seminal report on the sabotage of the Nord Stream pipelines, Hersh relied on insider Washington sources. He published claims that the United States carried out the covert operation using a team of U.S. Navy divers under the cover of NATO war maneuvers known as BALTOPS 22 last summer. Explosives were planted on the seabed during the exercises held in June 2022 and then later detonated on September 26 with the help of Norwegian military aircraft.

The convincing aspect of Hershs report was not just the credible detail of the operation, but that it confirmed what many independent observers had already concluded from strong circumstantial evidence about who had the motive and means to conduct the sabotage. Readers are referred to a recent editorial by Strategic Culture Foundation which compiles the background of why the United States is deemed to be the culprit.

Now here is a curious thing. While Hershs report provoked shockwaves around the world, Western governments and the mainstream media chose to ignore his report. In a weird parallel universe sort of way, they pretended that Hershs resounding revelations did not exist.

One would think that given Hershs reputation for world-news-breaking scoops, and given that his latest report revealed a rock-solid plausible account of how a major civilian infrastructure project was sabotaged, and further given that the implication of this report was the inculpation of the United States and its presi.....

World welcomes Iran-Saudi detente as Israel feels fatal blow "IndyWatch Feed War"

Press TV March 10, 2023

Various countries have welcomed the restoration of diplomatic relations between Iran and Saudi Arabia, while the regime in Tel Aviv seems to view the development as a fatal blow to its regional coalition building against the Islamic Republic.

After several days of intensive negotiations hosted by China, Iran and Saudi Arabia finally clinched a deal on Friday to restore diplomatic relations and re-open embassies, seven years after ties were severed over several issues.

The important development soon became a hot topic in regional as well as international media and reactions from other countries began to pour in.

The return to normal relations between the Islamic Republic of Iran and Saudi Arabia provides great capacities to both countries, the region, and the Muslim world, Iranian Foreign Minister Hossein Amir-Abdollahian, who is set to soon meet with his Saudi counterpart to make the necessary arrangements, wrote in a post on his Twitter account.

The good neighborliness policy, as the key axis of the Iranian administrations foreign policy, is strongly moving in the right direction and the diplomatic apparatus is actively behind the preparation of more regional steps, he said.

Riyadh eyeing continuation of dialogue

Saudi National Security Adviser Musaid Al Aiban, who negotiated the agreement with his Iranian counterpart Ali Shamkhani, said that Riyadh welcomes the initiative of His Excellency President Xi Jinping, based on the Kingdoms consistent and continuous approach since its establishment in adhering to the principles of good neighborliness.

Official: Iran bought Su-35 Flanker-E fighter jets from Russia "IndyWatch Feed Africa"

Boyko Nikolov Bulgarian Military March 10, 2023

The procedure for the Su-35S fighter jets, which Iran will deliver from Russia, has been completed. The planes have already been officially purchased by the Iranian Air Force.

The news comes from a reference to the official statement of the Iranian mission to the UN. Iranian media also claim the same. Among them is the Mehr news agency. Turkish media outlet sammunasanayist.com also claimed Irans purchase.

The Egyptian government has ordered 24 Sukhoi Su-35S fighter jets from the Russian Federation as part of the needs of the Egyptian Air Force [EAF]. However, the Su-35S produced by the Russian Federation for the Egyptian Air Force was not delivered for a long time.

It was claimed that the planes were not delivered due to political reasons, revealing technical problems from Egypt. The buyer of the Su-35s that Egypt did not receive is Iran. Iran, which is seeking to produce Su-35S for Egypt, has completed formal procedures with the Russian Federation.

Citing the official statement of the Iranian mission to the UN, the Iranian press reported that the purchase of the Su-35S has been completed. After the end of the Iran-Iraq war in 1988, Iran asked several countries to investigate the possibility of selling fighter airplanes to Iran, and Russia announced that it was ready to sell them.

The Iran UN mission added that Sukhoi-35 fighters are technically approved by Iran. After October 2020 when the arms sales ban on the purchase of conventional weapons Iran was lifted according to UN Security Council Resolution 2231, Iran finally agreed to buy them.

It was noted that the planes were purchased despite pressure from Israel, Saudi Arabia, and the UAE on Russia to cut or delay the deal. The number of fighter jets purchased and the contract price is kept secret.

According to unofficial data, Iran may have purchased Su-35S fighter jets previously ordered for the Egyptian Air Force, which remained at the factory due to Cairos refusal to buy the planes. Although 24 combat aircraft are known to have been ordered by Egypt, the number of aircraft produced under this order is estimated to be approximately 15.

It is noted that the purchase of new aircraft will seriously strengthen the Iranian Air Force, which suffers from a shortage of outdated equipme....

SWITZERLAND WAS A KEY ILLUMINATI BASE IN WW2, OR IN FACT EVER SINCE 1815 AD

Major Swiss banks have been involved in financing BOTH SIDES
of all major Illuminati-planned wars in the world since around 1800 AD.

Like Britain, Switzerland is yet another Wolf in Sheeps Clothing that has successfully managed for centuries to deceive the whole world into believing it is decent, clean honest, harmless, and transparent. Behind the scenes, the Illuminati are well aware that Switzerland is one of the most evil and corrupt countries in the world, and hence just the kind of venue they always needed, which is why they made it that way..

by Patrick OCarroll (henrymakow.com)

Many great historians, such Professor Carroll Quigley, Professor Antony Sutton, and Fritz Springmeier, proved beyond all doubt that WW2 WAS THE SINGLE MOST CONTROLLED CONFLICT IN HUMAN HISTORY. And Switzerland played a key role in that rigged conflict.

CIA Director Allen Dulles was one of MK Ultras supporters.

Throughout WW2, Allen Welsh Dulles lived at HerrenGasse 23, Bern, Central Switzerland, right beside Berns central train-station. In 1945, Bern was only a two-hour journey from Basel by car or railway. Along with London and NYC, the Illuminati used Basel as one of their three main financial hubs for financing, and controlling, both sides of their wholly artificial WW2.

Still today, the address HerrenGasse 23 belongs to the residential part of the five-floor building complex that houses the famous Loeb retail-store in Bern, which is still owned today by the Swiss Jewish Illuminati family Loeb....

Where is the love? Philadelphia experiencing worst VIOLENT CRIME surge in citys history "IndyWatch Feed War"

Arsenio Hall Natural News March 9, 2023

The City of Philadelphia is experiencing the worst violent crime surge in its history.

In a scathing opinion piece published by the Washington Examiner, commentary writer Christopher Tremoglie, an alumnus of the University of Philadelphia who has previously worked for the Philadelphia Inquirer, noted how incompetent city leadership coupled with radical left-wing criminal justice policies and reforms have left Philadelphias more than 1.5 million residents reeling from its worst violent crime surge ever. (Related: More people are rapidly leaving crime-ridden, high-cost cities like New York, San Francisco and Chicago.)

Tremoglie pointed out how the Democratic Party officials and voters in Philadelphia owe the rest of the citys residents an apology for tricking them into believing that life would be better under their rule.

As a lifelong resident of the City of Brotherly Love, its continued allegiance to Democrats boggles my mind. No matter the horrors of the reality of living in the city, Philadelphians overwhelmingly continue to vote for Democrats who just keep making things worse, wrote Tremoglie.

Something has to change. Its time well beyond time, really for Philadelphias Democratic voters to apologize to the rest of the city for the mess they have caused, he continued, citing crime, poverty and corruption as the main hallmarks of decades of Democratic Party rule over Philadelphia and other major urban centers in the United States. The citys voters are to blame because they never learn.

Shootings becoming increasingly common in Philadelphia

Of the many crimes plaguing Philadelphias neighborhoods, shootings have become increasingly common. This past weekend alone has seen at least six dead in Philadelphia, including a 14-year-old boy.

Anthony Pinkney, 14, was shot dead in the Overbrook neighborhood of West Philadelphia on Saturday night, March 4. He was the youngest of the six victims.

Local media outlet 6ABC noted that Saturdays are typically the deadliest day of the week over the past three years, followed closely by Sundays and then Mondays. This violence has kept first responders and aid organizations like CARES busy providing emergency services and aid.

A Message to the Jabbed "IndyWatch Feed War"

Dr Vernon Coleman Bitchute.com March 3, 2023

Transcript

It is March 2023 and this is video 324. Congratulations if youve watched all of them though there are no prizes Im afraid. Maybe well have badges if I ever get to 500.

The bad news, Im afraid, is that anyone who allowed themselves to be jabbed with the fake, pseudo vaccine which was fraudulently promoted to prevent people catching or spreading covid-19 the rebranded flu then Im afraid the evidence strongly suggests that theyre more vulnerable than those who arent jabbed. In many respects we must now regard the vaxxed as members of a different species. We have no idea what the long-term consequences will be but it is absurd not to think that there will be long-term consequences. Official figures show the triple jabbed made up 92% of covid deaths. And the mortality rate in 2022 was lowest among those who rejected the lethal jabs.

Their circulatory system, including their heart may be adversely affected. They may be more likely to develop infections. They may be more likely to develop cancer or, if theyve had it, to develop metastases, and their brain may be affected.

You may not have known all that because the truth has been suppressed by the medical establishment, which was bought, lock stock and syringe by the pharmaceutical industry, and by the mainstream media, which was bought by your government. When advertising dried up during the lockdowns, governments spent huge amounts of taxpayers money placing propaganda ads in the media and kept newspapers and TV stations alive.

Later in this video Ill give some simple, practical advice for those who were tricked into accepting one or more covid-19 jabs.

Now that the truth is out that the covid-19 jab doesnt stop transmission of the rebranded flu but can cause a wide range of serious and deadly health problems, the jabbed are justifiably angry. They are angry that they were tricked and threatened into accepting a dangerous and experimental jab with unknown long-term consequences and they are angry that their health has been compromised. They were repeatedly told by health experts in the mainstream media that the jab was safe and effective. But then when countless millions had rolled up their sleeves they were told, whoops, fooled you, the jab doesnt actually really stop you getting covid-19 or spreading it if you do get it.

More and more people are beginning to realise that they were lied to. Many are directing their anger at the medical profession for fa...

Putin Orders Destruction of All Covid-19 Vaccines in Russia, Real Raw Newsthe leading destination for real newsreported on March 4.

Russias president instructed the military to kill hospital staff that resisted the vaccine purge, the outletwhich, again, is the #1 location for very raw and very real newsrevealed.

Putin also ordered the execution of 130 scientists responsible for creating the Sputnik vaccine. There were no legal proceedings or trials before the scientists were liquidated, because in Russia such formalities are considered a waste of time.

This is the News. Raw and Real.

This is possibly Real Raw News biggest bombshell exclusive since announcing last month that the US military secretly executed Bill Gates, and soon after arrested Gates estranged ex-wife Melinda, who turned out to be actor Kevin Kline in drag.

One of these aforementioned real raw news fairy tales is being shared widely on social media as a boom-goes-the-dynamite game-changer. Can you guess which one?

That some lunatic claimed Putin karate-chopped all the clot-shots in Russia is not the problem hereafter all, what would the internet be without erotic fan fiction?

The problem is that many thousands of people saw the headline Putin Orders Destruction of All Covid-19 Vaccines in Russia, and immediately began popping champagne corks.

Why even bother reading the article? We all know this is something Putin would definitely do.

After all, Putin gave the greenlight to Sputnik V, even after Russian scientists explaineddirectly to his facethat the vaccine was based on an unproven and potentially dangerous technology.

When Moscow introduced the countrys first compulsory injection decree in June 2021, Putins spokesman predicted unvaxxed Russians would have to submit to the needleor face discrimination.

Biden Effect: Massive Line Forms Outside of San Francisco Silicon Valley Bank Branch as Bank Folds | 10 March 2023 | A massive line formed outside of a Silicon Valley Bank branch in San Francisco this morning. The FDIC insures up to $250,000 per depositor, per FDIC-insured bank, per ownership category. If customers were holding more than that amount then they are at risk of losing anything over $250,000. According to earlier reports, 90% of SVB customers had more than $250,000 in the bank. Customers also lined up in New York City. IRAN, SAUDI TO RESTORE TIES IN MAJOR STEP FOR MIDDLE EAST

In a trilateral statement, Shiite-majority Iran and mainly Sunni Muslim Saudi Arabia said they would reopen embassies and missions within two months and implement security and economic cooperation deals signed more than 20 years ago.

This handout image provided by Nournews agency shows the Secretary of the Supreme National Security Council of Iran Ali Shamkhani (R) shaking hands with the Director of the Office of the Central Foreign Affairs Commission of the Chinese Communist Party (CCP) Wang Yi (C) during a meeting with Saudi Arabia's National Security adviser and Minister of State Musaad bin Mohammed al-Aiban (L) in Beijing on March 10, 2023. TEHRAN - Regional powerhouses Iran and Saudi Arabia agreed Friday to restore ties and reopen diplomatic missions in a surprise, Chinese-brokered announcement that could have wide-ranging implications across the Middle East.

In a trilateral statement, Shiite-majority Iran and mainly Sunni Muslim Saudi Arabia said they would reopen embassies and missions within two months and implement security and economic cooperation deals signed more than 20 years ago.

Riyadh cut ties after Iranian protesters attacked Saudi diplomatic missions in 2016 following the Saudi execution of revered Shiite cleric Nimr al-Nimr - just one in a series of flashpoints between the two longstanding rivals.

Friday's announcement, which follows five days of previously unannounced talks in Beijing and several rounds of dialogue in Iraq and Oman, caps a broader realignment and efforts to ease tensions in the region.

"Following talks, the Islamic Republic of Iran and the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia have agreed to resume diplom...

Eastern DR Congo Hit by Rebel Attacks; 45 Civilians Killed

GOMA, Congo (AP) The death toll from several attacks this week by extremist rebels in eastern Congo has risen to at least 45 people, local officials said on Friday.

Dozens of people were killed by rebels using machetes over two days when rebels from the Allied Democratic Forces, a militia with links to the Islamic State group, killed civilians in several villages in North Kivu province, said Saidi Balikwisha, the provinces deputy.

Here, three or four days dont go by without us recording deaths, the result of barbarity of the ADF terrorists. That is why once again, we repeat, we need a considerable military force to come that can contribute to the restoration of peace, he said.

Little has been done to help others whose homes were burned down by the rebels, he said.

Conflict has been simmering in eastern Congo for decades as more than 120 armed groups fight for power, influence and resources and some to protect their communities. The ADF has been largely active in North Kivu province but has recently extended its operations into neighboring Ituri province and to areas near the regional capital, Goma.

The ADF rebels are accused by the U.N. and rights groups of targeting, maiming, raping and abducting civilians, including children. Earlier this month the United States offered a reward of up to $5 million for information that could lead to the capture of the groups leader, Seka Musa Baluku.

On Thursday, AP reporters saw bodies lowered into a mass grave in Mukondi where more than 30 people were killed by gunshots, knives and machetes, according to authorities. Community members shoveled dir...

8 Ways To Release The Pain Of Loving Someone You Cannot Be With "IndyWatch Feed World"

Love can be a wonderful thing, or love can be pure hell. For those who end up in relationships with people that they simply cannot stay with, it can be really hard to let go.

Its one thing to have someone dump you and then completely cut contact. Yes, it hurts, but at the same time, you know there is nothing you can do. However, when you are forced to break up with someone and make an active choice not to be with someone, it is a different kind of pain. Its not easy to tell your heart no. But, there are really good reasons to sometimes. Perhaps your partner cheated, or perhaps the relationship was just flat-out toxic. Whatever the reason is, here are 8 ways to let go and move on.

1. Feel the pain, and allow yourself time to grieve.

The way out is through, and while that might just sound like something people say, there is a lot of wisdom in those few words. At the end of the day, the more you try to run from your feelings or trick yourself into forgetting, the more you will have to face later on. Its better to go ahead and face it now and grieve the loss.

2. Do not entertain the idea of what if.

It might be tempting to sit around and wonder what would have happened if things would have worked out. What if I just go back? you might ask. I implore you, do not to go through these mental gymnastics, because it isnt worth your sanity.

3. Cut contact entirely.

It may seem like a tough call to make, but if a relationship is toxic or has no chance, do not cling to it. Dont go around this person, hoping for things to magically work one day. They wont. You have to cut contact if you expect to move on. Yes, there are exceptions to this, such as if you have kids with this person. However, if you dont have a REAL reason to be around this person, just dont.

4. Avoid situations that could be sketchy.

Avoid situations that will cause you pain. If you know your ex will be at a party you are going to, dont go. If you know their best friend will be there, reminding you of your pain, just skip the party. You know what you can handle and what you cannot.

5. Give up on closure.

Go ahead and allow yourself to forget about getting closure. I hate to say it, but you arent going to get it. If you really just cannot let go without getting closure, write a goodbye letter and burn it.

6. Create a support system.

Build yourself a support system of friends and family that you trust. Go to them and ask them to remind you of why you left in the first place when you are feeling like backstepping.

7. Be honest with yourself.

You need to be honest with yourself about why this relationship had to end. It may be hard, but you need to be brutally honest with yourself. Sit down and write down why you cannot be with them, and be blunt about it.

8. A...

Senegals Ex-prime Minister in Custody After Criticism

By BABACAR DIONE

DAKAR, Senegal (AP) Senegals former prime minister has been taken into custody after he publicly suggested that the countrys president had funded a French politician during a recent visit.

Cheikh Haguibou Soumare was detained Thursday but he has not been told the charges against him, his lawyer Adama Gueye told a press conference Thursday.

The government is accusing the ex-prime minister of trying to discredit President Macky Sall by publishing an open letter that suggested Sall gave money to French right-wing politician Marine Le Pen. Le Pen, a member of Frances National Rally party, ran for the French presidency and lost last year and visited the West African country in January.

In an open letter published in local media last week, Soumare, who was prime minister from 2007 to 2009, accused Sall of giving 12 million euro from a poor country to a French politician. If by any chance all of this were true, please enlighten the Senegalese people as to whether you acted as president of the Republic of Senegal or as a leader of a political party and with what money, said the letter.

Salls government strongly criticized the letter.

The (Senegal) government firmly rejects and condemns such cowardly and baseless insinuations, which clearly demonstrate an evil desire to discredit the person of the president of the republic, to undermine the institution that he embodies and to harm relations between Senegal and a foreign power, said Abdou Karim Fofana the government spokesman in a statement this week.

College Removes Partial Malcolm X Quote That Sparked Protest

KINGSTON, R.I. (AP) The University of Rhode Island has removed a partial Malcolm X quote from the facade of its main library 30 years after members of the schools Black Student Leadership Group and others protested because they said the shortened quote misrepresented the fuller meaning of the civil rights leaders message.

The inscription on the Robert L. Carothers Library and Learning Commons was installed in 1992 and was meant to be a tribute, but instead, led to the takeover of a campus building, the university said in a statement Friday.

The inscription read, My alma mater was books, a good library ... I could spend the rest of my life reading, just satisfying my curiosity.

The full quote, from The Autobiography of Malcolm X, reads: I told the Englishman that my alma mater was books, a good library. Every time I catch a plane, I have with me a book that I want to read and thats a lot of books these days. If I werent out here every day battling the white man, I could spend the rest of my life reading, just satisfying my curiosity because you can hardly mention anything Im not curious about.

The 1992 protesters held a 30-year reunion in November, and it was at that time that school President Marc Parlange, who took over in 2021, pledged to have the quote removed.

The removal of this inscription started 30 years ago, when a group of URI students had the courage to stand up and speak out against injustices happening at that time, Parlange said in a statement. Our university is grateful to those students for their courage, and I am grateful to todays generation of student leaders who, advocating in that same spirit, continue to inspire our ongoing work to foster a truly inclusive and equitable community.

Michelle Fontes, who participated in the 1992 protest and now works at the university, welcomed the change.

I am happy to have been part of the activism that took place in 1992 and this quote finally being removed is proof that our new administration is listening and striving to do...

9th Grader Sues Over Pledge of Allegiance Confrontation

(Alexa Jurado/The State via AP)

COLUMBIA, S.C. (AP) The parents of a ninth grade South Carolina student who said she was accosted by a teacher for walking to class instead of stopping and reciting the Pledge of Allegiance are suing the teacher, principal, school district and state education officials.

Marissa Barnwell said she was walking quietly to class and decided not to stop for the pledge or a moment of silence that followed. A teacher yelled at her, confronted her and pushed her against a wall.

Barnwell was then sent to the principals office, which she said was humiliating because she feared she was in trouble. The principal sent her back to class, but Barnwell said he never let her know that the teacher was wrong and she was right.

I was completely and utterly disrespected, Barnwell, 15, said at a news conference Thursday, according to The State newspaper. No one has apologized, no one has acknowledged my hurt. ... The fact that the school is defending that kind of behavior is unimaginable.

Barnwells parents are suing the River Bluff High School teacher, the principal, Lexington School District 1, and the South Carolina Education Department in federal court, saying they violated the girls civil rights and her First Amendment rights to both free speech or not to speak at all.

A state law passed more than 30 years ago requires public schools to play the Pledge of Allegiance at a specific time every day.

But that law also prohibits punishing anyone who refuses to recite the pledge as long as...

Pandemic 3 Years Later: Has the COVID-19 Virus Won?

On the third anniversary of the COVID-19 pandemic, the virus is still spreading and the death toll is nearing 7 million worldwide. Yet most people have resumed their normal lives, thanks to a wall of immunity built from infections and vaccines.

The virus appears here to stay, along with the threat of a more

New variants emerging anywhere threaten us everywhere, said virus researcher Thomas Friedrich of the University of Wisconsin-Madison. Maybe that will help people to understand how connected we are.

With information sources drying up, it has become harder to keep tabs on the pandemic. Johns Hopkins University on Friday shut down its trusted tracker, which it started soon after the virus emerged in China and spread worldwide.

Saturday marks three years since the World Health Organization first called the outbreak a pandemic on March 11, 2020, and the United Nations health organization says its not yet ready to say the emergency has ended.

A look at where we stand:

THE VIRUS ENDURES

With the pandemic still killing 900 to 1,000 people a day worldwide, the stealthy virus behind COVID-19 hasnt lost its punch. It spreads easily from person to person, riding respiratory droplets in the air, killing some victims but leaving most to bounce back without much harm.

Whatever the virus is doing today, its still working on finding another winning path, said Dr. Eric Topol, head of Scripps Research Translational Institute in California.

Weve become numb to the daily...

(AP Photo/Patrick Semansky, File)

WASHINGTON (AP) Reported sexual assaults at U.S. military academies shot up during the 2021-22 school year, and one in five female students told an anonymous survey that they had experienced unwanted sexual contact, the Pentagon said Friday. The survey results were the highest since the Defense Department began collecting that data.

Defense and military leaders said student-reported assaults at the Army, Navy and Air Force academies jumped 18% overall compared with the previous year. Calling the increase extremely disappointing and upsetting, defense officials said teams are visiting all three academies this month to try and target improvements and changes to address the problem.

The increase was driven largely by the Navy, which had nearly double the number of reported assaults in 2022, compared with 2021. Its unclear whether the phasing out of COVID-19-related restrictions contributed to the increase, including at the U.S. Naval Academy, which is directly adjacent to bars in downtown Annapolis, Maryland.

The results are, simply put, extremely disappointing, said Vice Adm. Sean Buck, superintendent of the Naval Academy. The current situation is unacceptable and we must improve our culture.

A student survey accompanying the report found increases in all types of unwanted sexual contact from touching to rape at all the schools. And it cites alcohol as a key factor. The report was released Friday.

The military services and the academies have struggled for years to combat sexual assault and harassment, with myriad prevention, education and t...

The Ghost of Hugo Grotius: The UN High Seas Treaty "IndyWatch Feed War"

Ever so rarely, the human species can reach accord and agreement on some topic seemingly contentious and divergent. Such occasions tend to be rarer than hens teeth, but the UN High Seas Treaty was one of them. It took over two decades of agonising, stuttering negotiations to draft an agreement and went someway to suggest that the common heritage of mankind, a concept pioneered in the 1960s, has retained some force.

Debates about the sea have rarely lost their sting. The Dutch legal scholar Hugo Grotius, in his 1609 work Mare Liberum (The Free Sea), laboured over such concepts as freedom of navigation and trade (commeandi commercandique libertas), terms that have come to mean as much assertions of power as affirmations of international legal relations.

The thrust of his argument was directed against the Portuguese claim of exclusive access to the East Indies, but along the way, statements abound about the nature of the sea itself, including its resources. While land could be possessed and transformed by human labour and private use, the transient, ever-changing sea could not. It is a view echoed in the work of John Locke, who called the ocean that great and still remaining Common of Mankind.

With empires and states tumbling over each other in those historical challenges posed by trade and navigation, thoughts turned to a relevant treaty that would govern the seas. While there was a general acceptance by the end of the 18th century that states had sovereignty over their territorial sea to the limit of three miles, interest in codifying the laws on oceans was sufficient for the UN International Law Commission to begin work on the subject in 1949.

It was a project that occupied the minds, time and resources of nation states and their officials for decades, eventually yielding the UN Convention on the Law of the Sea. Brought into existence in 1982, it came into effect in 1995. UNCLOS served to define maritime zones, including such concepts as the territorial sea, the contiguous zone, the exclusive economic zone, the continental shelf, the high sea, the international seabed area and archipelagic waters.

What was missing from the document was a deeper focus on the high sea itself, lying beyond the exclusive economic zones of states (200 nautical miles from shore) and, by virtue of that, a regulatory framework regarding protection and use. Over the years, environmental concerns including climate change, biodiversity loss and pollution became paramount. Then came those areas of exploration, exploitation and plunder: marine genetic resources and deep-sea mining.

Florida Abortion Ban Could Have Impact Beyond the State

By GEOFF MULVIHILL and ANTHONY IZAGUIRRE

TALLAHASSE, Fla. (AP) Less than a year after Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis, an expected GOP presidential contender, signed a ban on abortions after the 15-week mark of pregnancy, hes showing support for an even stricter ban introduced this week by state lawmakers. His position could have implications on the availability of abortion not only in Florida but across the South and also figure into the 2024 presidential race.

THE CURRENT FLORIDA LAW In June 2022, the U.S. Supreme Court overturned the 1973 Roe v. Wade ruling, giving control over abortion to the states. Some conservative legislatures passed bills years in advance that would impose abortion bans if Roe were overturned. Florida wasnt among those earlier states, but ruling, Dobbs v. Jackson Womens Health Organization, in January 2022.

Florida lawmakers agreed to ban abortion after 15 weeks, with an exception for the life of the woman but not for rape or incest. DeSantis signed it in April and it took effect in July.

THE NEW PROPOSAL

The deeper ban, proposed as Floridas legislative session opened on Tuesday, would make it a crime to provide an abortion past six weeks gestational age.

There would be an exception to save the life of the woman and exceptions in the case of pregnancy caused by rape or incest until 15 weeks of pregnancy. In those cases, the woman would have to provide documentation such as a medical record, restraining order or police report.

The measure would also require that the drugs used in medication-induced abortions which make up the majority of those provided nationally could be dispensed only in person by a physician.

DeSantis this week called the rape and incest provisions sensible and reiterated his support for tighter restrictions, saying, We welcome pro-life legislation.

If Republican lawmakers can agree on th...

Texas Women Sued for Wrongful Death After Aiding in Abortion

AUSTIN, Texas (AP) Three women in Texas are being sued for wrongful death by a man who claims they helped his now-ex-wife obtain medication for an abortion. Its another test of state-enforced bans since the U.S. Supreme court overturned the Roe v. Wade decision.

In a lawsuit filed late Thursday in Galveston County, Marcus Silva alleges assisting in a self-administered abortion is tantamount to aiding a murder. Silva is seeking $1 million in damages.

The woman who took the medication in July weeks after the Supreme Court struck down the constitutional right to abortion that had been in place since 1973 is not named in the lawsuit. Texas law protects women who get an abortion from being held liable.

Abortion rights groups condemned the lawsuit, calling it an intimidation tactic.

This is an outrageous attempt to scare people from getting abortion care and intimidate those who support their friends, family, and community in their time of need, Autumn Katz, a lawyer with the Center for Reproductive Rights, said Friday in a statement. The extremists behind this lawsuit are twisting the law and judicial system to threaten and harass people seeking essential care and those who help them.

Silva is being represented by Jonathan Mitchell a former Texas solicitor general who helped create one of the states abortion bans attorneys from conservative legal group Thomas More Society and state Rep. Briscoe Cain, a Houston-area Republican.

Anyone involved in distributing or manufacturing abortion pills will be sued into oblivion, Cain said in a statement from the attorneys.

According to the lawsuit, the manufacturer of the pills will also be named as a defendant once it is identified in the discovery process.

The lawsuit claims it has text messages from among the women discussing how to obtain medication that could induce an abortion and how to aid the woman who was pregnant in planning to take the medication.

CFMEU places green ban on Maribyrnong City Council proposed development of open space at McIver Reserve in Yarraville "IndyWatch Feed World"

The CFMEU has placed a green ban on a proposed site of an indoor sports stadium at McIver Reserve in Yarraville that will reduce the provision and access to open space for the local community.  McIver Reserve is a key community hub for recreation and leisure. The proposed reduction of open space in a council with already limited provision of open space shows a lack of regard to the views of local residents by Council. The development would see over 150 trees removed, and the closure of the Yarraville Footscray Bowling Club for the period of development, which could be two or more years.

A fenced dog park is proposed to be built around the north-east perimeter of the baseball diamond to offset the reduction of the current dog park, impacting residents who immediately back onto the proposed site.

Councils own consultation documents show residents value of open space, with 45 percent opposing the development and 12 percent unsure.

City of Maribyrnong has one of the lowest provisions of open space in Victoria, and despite residents concerns around reduction in access to open space and environmental impacts of the development, council has chosen to ignore community feedback.

The main reasons for residents opposing the development were:

  • To protect open space
  • Traffic and parking concerns
  • Sport is already well catered for.

Adjoining McIver Reserve is the Bradmill Precinct Development site which will include approximately 1300-1500 new dwellings and a Neighbourhood Activity Centre that will integrate with the existing urban environment.

The Bradmill Precinct Development site will inject thousands of residents into the area, but the Council is proposing to reduce access to open space in the surrounding area, said John Setka, Secretary of the CFMEU Vic-Tas.

It would be inappropriate to build an indoor facility on open space when there are other sites within the City of Maribyrnong more suitable for the development of an indoor sports stadium that would not come at a cost of reduced open space.

This is a cash grab by Council to build a facility that makes them money at a cost to residents provision of open space.

The union stands by the residents of the City of Maribyrnong who have not had their voices heard.

Madness of vaccine mandates in colleges: Ivy League universities that charge up to $75k a year are STILL refusing to teach students in-person who are not up to date with their Covid vaccines - with Harvard demanding up to FIVE --Students must receive a bivalent booster dose on top of their other Covid shots --If they don't without exemption, they will not be able to access in-person classes --Most Americans with bivalent booster are not protected against latest variant | 10 March 2023 | Ivy League schools are still refusing to teach students in-person who are not up to date with their Covid vaccines [mRNA clot shots] -- in a move slammed as "senseless" and "non-scientific." Harvard, Yale, Columbia and Pennsylvania have the most stringent mandates that make having the new bivalent booster a condition of entry. This means students at those schools who have already received four of the older shots would still need to get the new shot to continue their studies. The rest of the Ivy League universities demand at least two Covid jabs, with some requiring a booster too. Multiple experts told DailyMail.com the mandate "does not make sense" now that evidence shows the vaccines do not prevent transmission on a large scale.

What happens when a metaverse disappears? "IndyWatch Feed World"

Microsoft shut down its social VR world AltspaceVR this week, and Altspace users and creators used its final days to commemorate the platform.

A bugle played Taps. The crowd fell silent. Then, a coffin began floating down the aisle, as if carried by invisible pallbearers, until coming to a stop at a makeshift altar adorned with candles and flowers. The coffin was propped up, revealing under its transparent lid the iconic AltspaceVR robot avatar, and a short ceremony began.

That Time a Homeless Womans Prayer was Answered "IndyWatch Feed War"

Ive written about B before. Shes a homeless woman I knew through my project. But heres a little reminder of her backstory:

B lost both her legs in a subway accident. When I met her, she was living in a medical homeless shelter and panhandling daily in a wheelchair. B has four kids who, for a while, were living with her ex. It was not a good scenario. Very long story short: The State eventually took the kids away from him and temporarily placed them with Bs mother.

As I got to know B, I genuinely cared for her as a friend. We both looked forward to chatting whenever Id bring packages full of supplies geared to fit her specific needs. I bore witness to Bs journey and encouraged her as she dealt with mean-spirited passers-by and with a mountain of obstacles, e.g. housing, child services, medical bureaucracy, lawyers, etc.

Theres one story about her I havent yet shared, so here goes

From Covid to Crickets: Japan pushes edible insects "IndyWatch Feed War"

By Guy Gin | Making (Covid) Waves in Japan | March 6, 2023

Now that theyve stopped telling the public to constantly cover their mouths, Japans government and media have moved on to telling the public to put bugs into them. And who better to advocate for people to put insects down their throats than the man who advocated most actively for people to put mRNA injections into their veins, former Vaccine Minister and current Digital Minister Taro Kono?

Taro Kono tries crickets at a venture firm exhibition, Says they are delicious.

Heres a better look at the delicious crickets Mr Kono pulled his mask down to taste.

But since about 90% of Japanese are resistant to the idea of eating bugs, Japans politicians and propaganda apparatus will have to work harder at pushing crickets than they did pushing Covid jabs. Reworking some of its greatest hits from the Covid era, the media has declared neophobia to be the new vaccine-hesitancy.

Is revulsion to edible crickets due to neophobia (fear of new things)?

So are the neophobes selfishly preventing the creation of a sustainable society with their a...

Russia, UN set for Ukraine grain deal renewal talks - Lavrov highlights how sanctions are prohibiting transfer ships "IndyWatch Feed Africa"

Russia and the United Nations will hold talks in Geneva on Monday (Mar 13) on renewing the Ukraine grain export deal, with the UN saying the fate of millions rested on its extension. Russia's full-scale invasion of Ukraine in February last year saw Ukraine's Black Sea ports blocked by warships until a deal signed in July allowed for the safe passage of exports of critical grain supplies. Comment: That was to ensure that Ukraine didn't use the opportunity for war related activities, in the same way it abused the Minsk peace process to instead shore up its military to attack Russia; and that was done with the full blessing of the West. More than 23.7 million tonnes have been exported under the UN and Turkey-brokered Black Sea Grain Initiative, according to the United Nations. Comment: Some of the grain that was intended for Africa was instead taken by Western nations instead.

Australia to buy 5 nuclear-powered submarines as part of AUKUS in violation of previous commitments to China "IndyWatch Feed World"

In a major expansion and overhaul of its navy, Australia is planning to buy up to five US Virginia class nuclear powered submarines beginning in the next decade, Reuters and others are reporting. US as well as European officials have disclosed the future deal as part of a "landmark defense agreement between Washington, Canberra and London, four U.S. officials said on Wednesday, in a deal that would present a new challenge to China." Comment: Well, it's not so much a 'challenge' to China as it is a provocation, and further confirmation that the West is pathological in its plans to 'contain' the country. The impending agreement is seen as central to the relatively new AUKUS partnership, and the major sub deal is expected to be announced when President Joe Biden, Australian Prime Minister Anthony Albanese and UK Prime Minister Rishi Sunak meet in San Diego Monday.

Strange quantum event happens once every 10 billion chances "IndyWatch Feed World"

Quantum tunneling is a rare event that should be impossible under classical physics, but it is only now we are learning just how rare real-world examples are. The rate at which the rare but crucial quantum phenomenon known as tunneling occurs has been measured experimentally for the first time, and found to match theoretical calculations. The theoretical estimates in this area had been regarded as highly uncertain, so confirmation in one specific case allows for greater confidence in estimating the frequency of other tunneling events. Quantum tunneling is one of the many phenomena where subatomic particles behave in ways classical physics would say is impossible. In this case, an object trapped in a way that classically requires a certain energy to escape leaves the trap, despite having less than that amount of energy. It's a consequence, and proof of, the dual wave/particle nature of objects like electrons - a pure particle could not escape, but a wave occasionally can. Phenomena...

Steve Sheppard and The Writings of Sir Edward Coke "IndyWatch Feed War"

Wikipedia:

Sir Edward Coke (1 February 1552 3 September 1634) was an English barrister, judge, and politician who is considered the greatest jurist of the Elizabethan and Jacobean eras.

During his time as a Member of Parliament he wrote and campaigned for the Statute of Monopolies, which substantially restricted the ability of the monarch to grant patents, and authored and was instrumental in the passage of the Petition of Right, a document considered one of the three crucial constitutional documents of England, along with Magna Carta and the Bill of Rights 1689.

Coke is best known in modern times for his Institutes, described by John Rutledge as "almost the foundations of our law", and his Reports, which have been called "perhaps the single most influential series of named reports". Historically, he was a highly influential judge; within England and Wales, his statements and works were used to justify the right to silence, while the Statute of Monopolies is considered to be one of the first actions in the conflict between Parliament and monarch that led to the English Civil War. In America, Coke's decision in Dr. Bonham's Case was used to justify the voiding of both the Stamp Act 1765 and writs of assistance, which led to the American War of Independence; after the establishment of the United States his decisions and writings profoundly influenced the Third and Fourth amendments to the United States Constitution while necessitating the Sixteenth.

. . .

Coke's challenge to the ecclesiastical courts and their ex officio oath is seen as the origin of the right to silence. With his decision that common law courts could issue writs of prohibition against such oaths and his arguments that such oaths were contrary to the common law (as found in his Reports and Institutes), Coke "dealt the crucial blow to the oath ex officio and to the High Commission".The case of John Lilburne later confirmed that not only was such an oath invalid, but that there was a right to silence, drawing from Coke's decisions in reaching that conclusion. In the trial of Sir Roger Casement for treason in...
