Ukraine's much-anticipated 'counteroffensive' could end in disaster Signs of the Times

Are the Armed Forces of Ukraine ready to mount such a high-stakes operation and what challenges will they face? Talk about a counteroffensive by the Armed Forces of Ukraine (AFU) has been doing the rounds for months, but it is still not clear when it might begin or whether it will happen at all. Previously, RT analyzed the readiness of the AFU for such an operation, but this time we will discuss the main challenges that may prevent Kiev's troops from implementing or developing its political leaderships aims. And, perhaps most importantly, those of its Western sponsors. What is the AFU's main challenge in mounting this sort of endeavor? We currently do not have any idea of where the AFU's counteroffensive could take place, although Russian military bosses will be well aware of troop movements. If it involves an attempt to breakthrough the front line, then in addition to preparing reserves for battle, the AFU will need high-precision weapons. Ukrainian troops will have to use...

George Floyds Murder Reminds Us: Israels Knee Sits on the Neck of Black America MintPress News

Nearly three years have passed since, on 25 May 2020, four Minneapolis police officers were involved in killing George Floyd. Then, the iconic shots of Derek Chauvin kneeling on Floyd sparked a rejuvenated mass movement against structural racism in the police, specifically about using the knee-on-neck technique. The iconic photo meant that Chauvin became the poster boy for the technique. But subsequent video evidence indicated that at least three of the four cops involved in the incident had knelt on Floyds back or neck in the encounter at the same time. This is important since, as we show in this investigation, the local police department had trained all four officers in training sessions that routinely involved the knee-on-neck technique. We also show that this technique is directly linked to training overseen, indeed certified, by Israeli institutions and used by police training officers in Minneapolis.

In response to the death of George Floyd in Minneapolis, Israeli National Police Spokesperson Micky Rosenfeld tweeted that there is no procedure that allows an officer of the Israel police to carry out an arrest by placing a knee on the neck of a suspect.

This and similar interventions quickly punctured the outrage building over the death of Floyd and about the alleged role of Israel in the deadly technique that caused his death. Some posted photos of Israeli police kneeling on Palestinian necks, of which there are many. Still, they were overwhelmed by a chorus from pro-Israel sources turning the original allegation into one more instance of antisemitism. The Simon Wiesenthal Center tweeted about Palestinians setting social media aglow with their &#8220...

NYT journalist Maureen Dowd accidentally reveals how journalism killed itself Signs of the Times

Veteran New York Times columnist Maureen Dowd wrote a column last week called "Requiem for the Newsroom." In it, she bemoans how the newsroom, once a purpose-driven place of clattering typewriters and eccentric personalities, has been replaced by work-from-home isolationists. The "percussive soundtrack" of the old newsroom, the "louche glamour," is gone, she lamented. Dowd is partly right on this. As I recently wrote in the Washington Examiner, today's journalists are boring compared to the crazy and swashbuckling writers of the past. The digital revolution keeps everyone's hands clean in today's media. However, Dowd never addresses what is killing newsrooms every bit as much as technology and good manners: corruption. The media are made up of ideologues, and they have become too corrupt to be trusted.

Project INVICTUS: Inside the UKs Human Rights Busting Campaign to Spy on Refugees MintPress News

In recent months, the British governments war on refugees has included a relentless deluge of vicious xenophobic rhetoric from ministers and human rights-busting, UN-condemned legislation in the form of the Illegal Migration Bill, and is seemingly intensifying with each passing day.

Despite backlash from the public and certain sections of the media, this virulent animus enjoys bipartisan support and is likely to be a key battleground in the next general election. The Conservatives and Labour are already vying to prove which can be more efficiently barbaric and prevent the most refugees from reaching British soil. In the meantime, migrants attempting to cross the English Channel routinely die en route.

MintPress News can exclusively reveal a hitherto clandestine dimension of Londons horrific abuse of refugees. The Home Office is spying on their smartphones and movements, hoping they will lead authorities to people smugglers and organized crime groups.

Britains unwitting, non-consensual recruitment of refugees as living tracking devices is conducted in deliberate breach of national and international data protection regulations. It may also contravene the European Convention on Human Rights.

Precisely when and how the Home Office struck upon this monstrous stratagem isnt clear. However, leaked documents reviewed by MintPress News indicate a trial scheme, dubbed Project INVICTUS, was launched in November 2021. The private military intelligence company Prevail Partners led the effort on behalf of Clandestine Channel Threat Command. A Home Office unit, it brings together the whole of Government to end the viability of the small boat route.

Commercially Immature

An initial impressions report on major themes of this trial, authored a month later by Prevail, lays out its dimensions. First, the need for paramount confidentiality at all times was writ large:

Operationally, the capability sought to provide information start points to the  [Home Office] Intelligence Fusion Cell (IFC), complementing other forms of open-source data. The concept of the trial envisaged a series of passive data collection gates deployed overseas in Belgium (Operation TARTAN) and domestically in the UK, har...

This regime is not subject to evolution an interview with Ilya Budraitskis

From Meduza: Alexander Zemlyanichenko / AP / Scanpix / LETA

Note from LeftEast editors: This interview was initially published by Meduza and translated by Anna Razumnaya.

Political writer Ilya Budraitskis explains the lefts vision of decentralized governance and why Russias Communist Party must exit together with Putin.

The invasion of Ukraine confronted Russian society with the consequences of a decades-long transformation that began, among other things, with Vladimir Putins introduction of a new Labor Code. The new labor legislation, passed in December 2001, curtailed the rights of labor unions, contributing to social atomization and to the crumbling of solidarity politics.

The scam that spins '95% vaccine efficacy' from a placebo Signs of the Times

We have provided numerous explanations (see here, and here) and videos (see here and here) explaining why a vaccine that is actually merely a placebo will inevitably appear to have high efficacy if there is a time delay after vaccination during which the participant is classified as 'unvaccinated'. Some people have claimed that the examples - using hypothetical data - are unrealistic and that, with different assumptions about the underlying infection rate, the illusion would not happen. Not true. This example simulates a vaccine roll-out and efficacy evaluation which is essentially how all the 2021 observational studies of the Covid vaccines were conducted.

Mr. Guaid Goes to Washington Dissident Voice

Juan Guaid continues to advocate punishing the Venezuelan people with US coercive economic measures. Recently shipped to Washington DC, the former interim president of Venezuela pleaded, You cant use a kind or soft approach, such as easing the suffering, because it would normalize dictatorship.

Guaid was livestreamed May 3 from the quasi-governmental Wilson Center. Located in the Ronald Reagan Building in Washington DC, the Wilson Center is a think tank established by the US Congress, which conducts research to inform public policy in service of the US empire.

Former US Ambassador to Venezuela William Brownfield opened with remarks about the need to compel the government of Venezuelan President Nicols Maduro. Then Wilson Center head Mark Green obsequiously introduced Guaid. Before helming the Wilson Center, Green was executive director of the McCain Institute and prior to that administrator of the USAID, both CIA cut-outs.

The Wilson Center program was interrupted by pro-Venezuelan government protesters, accusing Guaid of being a thief and a fraud. Although blacked out on the livestream, this video of the action was posted on Twitter.

In an orchestrated Q&A, a Venezuelan friendly to Guaid asked why...

Texas man convicted of fatally shooting Black Lives Matter protester won't get new trial, judge rules Signs of the Times

A judge has ruled that the man convicted of fatally shooting a Black Lives Matter protester in Austin, Texas, back in July 2020 won't get a new trial. The decision on Wednesday comes after Daniel Perry's defense team requested a new trial and Texas Governor Greg Abbott announced he would pardon Perry, an Army sergeant. Perry, who is white, was convicted of shooting and killing Garrett Foster, also white, after protesters reportedly surrounded Perry's car, and Foster, who was carrying an AK-47 across his chest, attempted to talk to him. A jury found Perry guilty in early April.

Souls for Sale Dissident Voice

In a society built on lies, the search for truth is a game.

Consider the debate surrounding alleged threats to the BBCs independence, even as the BBC itself reports of its outgoing chairman:

As for Mr Sharps departure, I understand conversations between the BBC and the government have been had in recent days. Youd expect that.

The BBC chairman is a political appointment.

If that doesnt justify Twitter labelling every BBC journalist UK state-affiliated media, we dont know what does.

Or consider how, cap in hand, the Guardian now presents itself as a Media Lens-style operation, declaring at the end of its articles:

As a reader-funded news organisation, we rely on your generosity. Please give what you can, so millions can benefit from quality reporting on the events shaping our world.

We wonder how many readers funding this heroic mission are aware that, last year, Guardian editor, Kath Viner, received a 42 per cent pay rise of 150,000, taking her salary to 509,850. Brazen claims that the Guardian is free from commercial influence appear in the pages of a newspaper overflowing with corporate adverts on which it is deeply dependent. Last year, print and advertising generated revenues of 71.5m and 73.7m respectively. The Guardian is owned by the Scott Trust, which runs a 1.3bn investment fund.

Even if we try to imagine corporate journalists rising above this nonsense, its impossible to conceive of them examining deeper issues of med...

Deadly escalation an effort to provoke major Russian response. Former CIA intelligence officer Larry Johnson says the decision to launch a drone attack on the Kremlin was made by the United States. The Wednesday attack, which was likely to have been targeting Russian President Vladimir Putin, was stopped by electronic warfare systems which disabled the drones before they could reach their target. According to Johnson, the attack must have been spearheaded by the Biden administration and the US military-industrial complex because "decisions on such attacks are made not in Kiev, but in Washington."

More than 1,000 evacuated as Guatemala volcano erupts Signs of the Times

Guatemalan authorities evacuated more than 1,000 people and closed a road as Central America's most active volcano erupted Thursday, spewing thick clouds of ash over farms and towns not far from the capital city. Civil protection official Oscar Cossio said 1,054 people had been evacuated from five communities near the foot of the volcano and moved to a sports hall for shelter. He said that number was likely to rise as a full accounting of the evacuees was carried out. Guatemala's Conred disaster center said the volcano named Fuego, Spanish for "fire," was sending out "pyroclastic flows" -- a high-temperature mix of gas, ash and rock fragments "which descend with great speed down the flanks of the volcanic complex."

It was three days of driving, pounding, wet snow which quickly started to pile up each night.

A Fox spokesbot vigorously denied that this was true so... that pretty much confirms it.

A number of powerful psychic weather fronts are converging into the threat of a perfect storm; bank failures... rising interest rates... runaway inflation... these are not areas I generally or... even rarely... pay attention to, BUT... when you factor in other conditions and events... they can lead to a serious eyebrow raise. Let's not forget enforced chaotic migration... looming bigger than ever.

Grooming the forests Terra Forming Terra

We have been addressing this problem for almost twenty years and we have a simple new insight in terms of mechanization.

We have already come to understand that a working woodlot demands proactive grooming and rotational grazing for optimal productivity.  This can also be achieved once your forest becomes a climax forest, but that is centuries away and then, not so wonderful in terms of economic productivity.

Proactive grooming requires knocking down branches to above your head and maintaining an open spacing to allow at least 60 percent sunlight gettting to the forest floor allowing surface vegetation as animal fodder for a likely flock of sheep and perhaps cattle.

This is pretty good and somewhat describes our orchard practise.  The difficulty is the next fifty feet or so. what I just figured out is that we can dfrive up to a given stem and use a clamping device to grasp the trunk an use that to stabalize the 0machine itself.  We can then use a bucket on an hydraulic arm to move up the tree without fear of toppling over.  This is huge.

If we are working with pine trees in the boreal forest, we can immediately drop the lowest ring of branches and open a clear path on one side to the tree top itself.  At tree top we can easily harvest mature pine cones into a burlap sack to finish the task.  If this is done every year we collect an annual pine cone harvest and also produce a clear stem that only has knots in the six inch core.  The final stem will be robust and as tall as any mature pine tree orr any other conifer as well that we chose to work this way.

Branches on the ground can be chipped the next spring if we care though grazers will break them up as well.

If we are working with fruit and nut trees, we are no longer restricting ourselves to dwarf root stalks and we will care about the end quali...

Our particle ocean Terra Forming Terra

NNP neutral neutron pair

NEeP neutral electron pair

Here is what seems impossible, but our gravity wells actually pack up our NNPs.  Yet it is plausible that they are actively formed from the general photon flux all through space and that surely includes inter galactic space.  The actual packing takes place right here.

Natural spacing for these NNPs will be much closer that our comparable elements and hydrogen.  Afte all those have electron orbitals and this scopes out its own significant volume.  At the same time a conglomeration of NNPs able to say decay into say silica will be possibly smaller that the descendent element.  At the same time, they are sticky but at a very low level as compared to out elements which we experience.

we live in an ocean of these NNPs and they all live in another ocean of NEPs (neutral electron pairs) scalled way smaller and of course an ocean of neutral neutrinos as well all scaled deeper still.  None of these are particularly sticky, but will line up and then lock up if not disturbed by a photon.

The key thing to understand is that all matter that we detect is a decay product of some sort and the process is glacial.  We actually knew that from the neutron neutron to neutron proton decay that forms free hydrogen.  The half life is huge but still real and that matches the age of our Galaxy as well.

Cloud cosmology is able to construct step by step from the act of creation to the natural production of an NNP from NEPs From NNePs.  they are acting along axis to be sticky.  Yet with over two thousand axis, a NNP can be easily seen as a semi continous field that may be modeled by field equations. I should also mention that an axis has 3d dimensionality because infinity is empirical.

What is clear now is that the universe we percieve can only exist as a decay product from the third stage of matter.

it is only at this level that we get a consistent material universe that we can work with.  A further though is that NEPs decay as well but produce cosmic rays...

Astronomers capture rarely-seen moment of dying star eating Jupiter-sized planet Signs of the Times

Astronomers say that similar to the demise of ZTF SLRN-2020, the Earth too will face the same fatal fate - however, the end won't be claiming civilization for another roughly 5 billion years. Newly published findings revealed the moment in which astronomers witnessed the stunning celestial act of a dying star being completely engulfed by a nearby planet thousands of light-years away. Officials spotted the cosmic act in May of 2020 during observations in the constellation Aquila, which sits about 12,000 light-years away. Researchers had been investigating stellar mergers when they came upon the find. "Planets with short orbital periods (roughly under 10 days) are common around stars like the sun. Stars expand as they evolve and thus we expect their close planetary companions to be engulfed, possibly powering luminous mass ejections from the host star," write the study authors, who are from MIT, Harvard University, and Caltech.

It's a good thing for ordinary Americans if the US loses reserve currency status Signs of the Times

Earlier this month, Larry Kudlow insisted that it is "it's incumbent on the U.S. government, no matter who's in power, to maintain the reserve currency status of the dollar." Kudlow laments that a toppling of the dollar from that perch "seems to be the direction we're going in." Kudlow's remarks came a day after Donald Trump declared that China is trying to displace the U.S. Dollar [sic] as the NUMBER ONE CURRENCY" and that if this occurs, it would be the biggest defeat for our Country [sic] in its history." Neither Trump nor Kudlow actually explain why maintaining reserve currency status is so important. After all, it's clear that it is not necessary for a country's currency to be a reserve currency in order for that country to have a high standard of living and a high degree of economic freedom. We could simply look to Norway and Switzerland to see that.

Shocking video shows NYC subway passenger putting unhinged man in deadly chokehold | 2 May 2023 | Dramatic new video shows a straphanger taking matters into his own hands, pinning down an unhinged man in a deadly incident at a Manhattan subway station this week. The 24-year-old passenger stepped in after the vagrant, identified by sources as Jordan Neely, 30, began going on an aggressive rant on a northbound F train Monday afternoon, according to police and a witness who took the video. "He starts to make a speech," freelance journalist Juan Alberto Vazquez said in Spanish during an interview Tuesday, referring to the disturbed man. "He started screaming in an aggressive manner," Vazquez told The Post. "He said he had no food, he had no drink, that he was tired and doesn't care if he goes to jail. He started screaming all these things, took off his jacket, a black jacket that he had, and threw it on the ground." That's when he said the straphanger came up behind Neely and took him to the ground in a chokehold -- keeping him there for some 15 minutes, Vazquez said.

Hollywood, left-wing foundations behind climate charity quietly bankrolling extremist protest groups CLG News

Hollywood, left-wing foundations behind climate charity quietly bankrolling extremist protest groups | 3 May 2023 | A little-known climate change advocacy organization heavily funded by celebrities and influential left-leaning foundations has been quietly dishing out grants to various activist groups deploying unorthodox and extremist methods across the world to protest fossil fuels, documents reveal. Anti-fossil fuels groups have been ramping up protests in the United States and overseas as part of a coordinated campaign to bring awareness to climate change by vandalizing fine art, blocking major roads, and even gluing themselves to sports cars. Many of these activist hubs are being bankrolled by Climate Emergency Fund, a Beverly Hills-based charity linked to Hollywood celebrities and top liberal nonprofit organizations aiming to shape the Democratic Party's agenda, according to tax forms and other documents reviewed by the Washington Examiner. "Climate Emergency Fund has quickly become the ATM that radical environmental activists turn to fund their latest disruptions," Caitlin Sutherland, executive director of the conservative watchdog Americans for Public Trust, told the Washington Examiner.

After years-long pandemic mandates, German Health Ministry admit they have no idea whether or to what degree masks prevent SARS-2 infection at all Signs of the Times

As on several prior occasions, liberal Bundestag vice-president Wolfgang Kubicki has used his parliamentary prerogatives to put a question to the German Health Ministry, and compel an answer. He asked what study results the Ministry could cite to demonstrate the efficacy of face masks. Lauterbach's crack team of virus understanders responded that, uh, it is a very complicated problem, and, in truth, well, actually, nobody really knows what effect masks really have. This is because "the effectiveness of individual measures ... cannot be examined in isolation, but only in conjunction with the other measures in place at any given time." In other words: they got nothing. After years of making kids mask for hours on end in school, and imposing arbitrary but quite obnoxious mandates on airplanes and public transit and clinics, they have no idea whether it did anything, and no plans even to find out whether it did anything. Suddenly all that manic masking enthusiasm has just evaporated....

Help America put another Kennedy in the White House in January 2025 (We) can do better

Robert F Kennedy Junior(See also (4/5/23.) In stark contrast to the Australian government and all but a handful of MPs and Senators, Robert F. Kennedy Junior, son of Senator Robert F. Kennedy (3/1/1925 - 6/6/1988), has, since he announced, on 19 April 2023, that he was seeking the nomination to be the Democratic Party's candidate for President of the United States, repeatedly condemned both current President Joe Biden and former President Donald Trump for their efforts to illegally extradite Julian Assange from London to the United States. In the US, Assange will almost certainly be made to face 175 years in prison in solitary confinement. This penalty is for Assange's supposed breach of the US 1917 Espionage Act when he is not even a US citizen!

The Presidential elections are to be held on 5 November 2024 and, if RFK Junior is victorious, he will be inaugurated on 20 January 2025. Of course this is much too long to wait to end the illegal imprisonment of Julian Assange. Nonetheless, the more successful RFK Junior is in his campaign to become President, the greater the likelihood that President Biden can be made to free Assange in the meantime. See also ), ().

Google co-founder Larry Page subpoenaed for records related to sex-trafficker Jeffrey Epstein, who allegedly courted Page as a client for JPMorgan Chase --Last month, Page's Google co-founder Sergey Brin was also subpoenaed in the case, along with billionaires Mortimer Zuckerman and Thomas Pritzker | 3 May 2023 | Google co-founder Larry Page is being subpoenaed for records related to sex-trafficker Jeffrey Epstein, who allegedly courted Page as a client for JPMorgan Chase. Late last year, the U.S. Virgin Islands government and a victim of Epstein separately sued the multinational bank, claiming it participated in and profited off Epstein's sex ring. Now, in the litigation's latest salvo, the Caribbean territory is seeking documents from Page--including communications about "Epstein's role" in his finances--from 2002 through present day. The subpoena also requests correspondence between Page and Epstein, and Page and JPMorgan; documents showing fees the Google billionaire paid to Epstein or JPMorgan; and records touching on "Epsteins involvement in human trafficking and/or his procurement of girls or women for commercial sex." In a legal filing on Thursday, the Virgin Islands asked a federal judge to authorize alternative service on Page after it was apparently unable to find him.

15-Minute Cities Will Enslave the People Armstrong Economics

Make no mistake, its not about your convenience, and its not about saving the planet. It will be a complete impoverishment and enslavement of all the people, German MEP Christine Anderson said regarding the push for 15-minute cities. Shes right. The 15-minute city is marketed as a futuristic town where everyone will live within 15 minutes of essential services. They are marketing these cities as affordable, convenient, and virtuous as they combat climate change. The truth of the matter is that these cities are reminiscent of the Jewish ghettos during World War II or the Japanese internment camps in the US. They are designed to contain and control the people.

The World Economic Forum (WEF) claims that Paris will soon become a 15-minute city, and Milan and Melbourne are also running pilots to test this design. Every street will have a bike lane as it will be easier to reduce our access to cars. Reducing our access to personal vehicles will reduce our ability to travel outside of our 15-minute enclosures. Everyone will work within a 15-minute radius, their children will go to school within this 15-minute radius, and there will be no need to leave. The problem here is that they have the power to prevent people from leaving.

As Anderson said, governments can easily implement climate emergency lockdowns. The looming existential threat of climate change and worsening income inequality require us to urgently rethink our existing cities, and rapid urbanization makes it imperative that we create a new and better city-building template for cities to house fut...

The Great Reset King Armstrong Economics

There is a golden opportunity to seize something good from this crisisglobal crises know no borders, and highlight how interdependent we are as one people sharing one planet, the former Prince of Wales said during a World Economic Forum summit in January 2021. Ironic for the king of England to speak on an opportunity to seize something. This man has no idea what it means to live the life of a commoner and has riches beyond imagination, but he is asking US to sacrifice for THEM.

Charles has been one of the highest-profile global proponents for protecting the planet in recent decades, from writing books and making speeches about nature to working with business to mobilise private finance to combat global warming, the WEF wrote on its website in September 2022. Charles spoke about entire new markets based on sustainability at the WEF meeting in 2020, and asked private industries to begin thinking about how they will transition to net zero emissions. Sustainable to these people means using fewer fossil fuels. Incredible how a man whose monarchy exudes opulence and luxury would tell the people to consume less.

The video above is from the WEFs Davos meeting in 2020. We have the ability to tag, track, and trace the supply chain in unprecedented ways, the king commented. That means they also have the ability to tag, track, and trace you. We cannot expect consumers to make sustainable choices, he continued.

In 2019, the UK agreed to reach net zero carbon emissions by 2050. The elites began encouraging the people to consume less by traveling less often, eating less, and consuming less. The U.K.s ...

Former Navy Seal Team 6 Member: China is Going to Destroy Us Armstrong Economics

The US military has been struggling with recruitment efforts in recent years. Only 13% of 18 to 29-year-olds are highly willing to enlist. Prioritizing the woke agenda has alienated the once-core conservative, traditional members. The current Commander in Chief is not patriotic and does not inspire young men to join the military. We abandoned operations in Afghanistan chaotically when we should never have been there anyhow, forced service members to undergo vaccinations, and continued to heighten tensions with foreign nations to a level where another world war is inevitable. Every branch has failed to meet their recruitment numbers despite the military lowering the standards to join. The latest desperate attempt to recruit members is the opposite of the image of a tough soldier.

The US Navy invited an active-duty drag queen to be its latest digital ambassador. Yeoman 2nd Class Joshua Kelley, who identifies as non-binary, is creating videos cosplaying as a woman to explore the digital environment to reach a wide range of potential candidates, a Navy spokesperson stated. Yeoman, or Harpy Daniels as they call themself on stage, is sharing his experience of going back and forth between genders to represent queer sailors. Lets remember, regular gay folks recently fought to repeal the Dont Ask Dont Tell bill to permit people to serve while openly gay. How on earth could the military think this is a good idea?

Former US Navy SEAL Team Six member Robert J. ONeill was part of the special operation to kill Osama bin Laden, one of the best and bravest our country has to offer. Alright. The US Navy is now using an enlisted sailor Drag Queen as a recruiter. Im done. China is going to destroy us. YOU GOT THIS NAVY. I cant believe I fought for this bulls-t, ONeill wrote. Not this Navy veteran. Im ashamed of the Navy, wrote another veteran. Its an insult to every veteran. The army kept making me go to trans EO-type classes before I retired. Nope. Didnt go.

Who the hell are they trying to recruit? Are these people even mentally fit to serve? Its almost like theyre begging for a future draft of all persons, because the military knows b...

Does Anybody Know What is Going On? Armstrong Economics

COMMENT #1: I have seen the covers of various times predicting ice ages to heat waves and always it has been some exaggerated forecast that never comes true. Does anybody really know what is going on with this climate change nonsense where we are being taxed and deprived of all advancement for a theory that is unproven?

GR

I was disturbed by Kennedys comment on locking up climate change opponents. However, I listened to a number of things hed do the first day all great. I voted for Trump in 2020; but believe hes too egotistical to admit mistakes he made during Covid. He could be forgiven for listening to wrong advice; but admit it and dont just blame others. Also, I voted for DeSantis but with his world tour promising military support around the world; seems like hes just sucking up to the neocons. Trump needed to be Trumpish to win in 2016. If he admits past mistakes and gets real, show some humility; he could capture some never-Trumpers. Trump may be the only person would could drain the swamp, but his echo would not allow him to do what is necessary to capture the voters. Im afraid DeSantis is going to be absorbed by the neocons. Kennedy may be the next best thing? You would do a much better job than Biden; but sadly, thats not a high bar.
Thanks,
Bruce

A New York City police spokesperson told Newsweek that Neely's record has 42 prior arrests, dating between 2013 and 2021. They include four for alleged assault, while others involved accusations of transit fraud and criminal trespass. At the time of his death, Neely had one active warrant for an alleged assault in connection with a 2021 incident. Many of Neely's arrests were for alleged violations of local law, the spokesperson said, and involved lower-level offenses such as having an open container of alcohol in public. [Here are a few details on the 2021 "incident" which News[sic]week "forgot" to mention, regarding AOC's newest hero: "Neely also had numerous arrests on his rap sheet, the most recent in 2021, when he socked an older woman in the head, severely injuring her and landing himself in jail for more than a year, sources said. Can China checkmate the west in Ukraine? Signs of the Times

Zelensky may be the target of last night's drone attack against the Kremlin. Last week's telephone call between Ukraine's President Volodymyr Zelensky and China's President Xi Jinping was certainly one of the most significant events since the beginning of Russian military intervention in Ukraine. The call, as we now know, was initiated by President Zelensky, without consulting his handlers in the Biden administration or NATO. President Xi accepted the call but made the subtle point of conducting it through a Russian and not Ukrainian language interpreter. According to Chinese government readout of the conversation, Xi warned Zelensky not to support US policy on Taiwan, and offered to send a peace delegation to Kiev in order to help broker an end of hostilities in Ukraine. No cards left to play The significance of this call could be hard to overestimate, including the fact that Zelensky took the initiative without consulting his western sponsors. 10 Red Flags That Someone Can Not Be Trusted, According To Science Awareness Act

Trust is an important aspect of any relationship, whether it be personal or professional. However, it can be difficult to determine if someone is trustworthy or not. Luckily, research has identified several red flags that can indicate that someone may not be trustworthy. Here are some of the most common red flags, according to science.

Lack of eye contact

One of the most common red flags of untrustworthiness is a lack of eye contact. Studies have found that individuals who avoid eye contact are seen as less trustworthy than those who maintain eye contact. This may be because eye contact is associated with honesty and openness.

Inconsistent behavior

Another red flag is inconsistency in behavior. If someone behaves differently depending on who they are around or the situation, it may be a sign that they are not being honest or genuine.

Negative body language

Body language can also be a clue whether someone is trustworthy. Negative body language, such as crossed arms or a lack of smiles, can indicate that someone is defensive or hiding something.

Dishonesty

Perhaps the most obvious red flag of untrustworthiness is dishonesty. If someone lies or withholds information, it can be difficult to trust them.

Lack of empathy

Another sign that someone may not be trustworthy is a lack of empathy. People who are unable to understand or connect with others emotions may be more likely to engage in unethical behavior.

Self-centered behavior

Self-centered behavior can also be a red flag of untrustworthiness. Individuals who are primarily focused on their own needs and desires may be less concerned about the needs of others and more likely to engage in behavior that is detrimental to others.

Excessive bragging

Excessive bragging or self-promotion can also be a sign that someone is not trustworthy. People who constantly talk about their accomplishments or skills may be more concerned with impressing others than being honest.

Unreliability

If someone is consistently unreliable, it can be a sign that they are not trustworthy. Individuals who make promises but fail to follow through may be more likely to engage in behavior that is dishonest or harmful.

Gossiping

Gossiping or talking behind someones back can also be a red flag of untrustworthiness. Individuals who engage in gossip may be more likely to spread rumors or information that is not true.

Lack of accountability

Finally, a lack of accountability can be a sign that someone is not trustworthy. If someone is unwilling to take responsibility for their actions or apologize when they have done something wrong, it can be difficult to trust them.

In conclusion, there are several red flags that can indicate that someone may not be trustworthy. These include a lack of eye contact, inconsistent behavior, negative body language, dishonesty, l...

Epstein, a financier, also arranged for Hoffman to stay overnight in his townhouse when the LinkedIn founder was supposed to land late at night in New York in December 2014. Ancient bacteria genome reconstructed from Neanderthal tooth plaque Signs of the Times

Microbial DNA preserved in the teeth of ancient humans and Neanderthals has been used to reconstruct molecules produced by ancient bacteria. The approach could help us discover new antibiotics or other useful molecules in microbes that may have gone extinct thousands of years ago. The search for unknown microbes might normally send researchers to tropical islands or hydrothermal vents. Pierre Stallforth at Friedrich Schiller University Jena in Germany and his colleagues went hunting back in time. They looked to the microbial DNA preserved in the calcified tooth plaque from 34 ancient humans and 12 Neanderthals, including one that was 102,000 years old. The ancient DNA came fragmented in millions of short, often degraded, sequences. Assembling these into sufficiently complete genomes is a "multidimensional jigsaw puzzle", says Stallforth.

Experts Reveal The Top 10 Careers That Have The Most Psychopaths Awareness Act

Psychopathy is a personality disorder characterized by a lack of empathy and remorse, as well as a tendency towards impulsive behavior and a disregard for social norms. While the majority of people with this condition never engage in violent or criminal behavior, research suggests that there are certain professions that are more likely to attract individuals with psychopathic traits. Here are the top 10 careers that experts have identified as having the most psychopaths.

CEO

Studies have found that business leaders, particularly those in high-stress, high-pressure industries such as finance, are more likely to exhibit psychopathic traits. This may be due to the competitive nature of the job, as well as the emphasis on results and profit margins.

Lawyer

Lawyers are trained to be argumentative and persuasive, which may appeal to individuals with psychopathic tendencies. Additionally, the high-stakes nature of many legal cases can attract those who are drawn to risk-taking and excitement.

Media (TV/Radio)

The media industry, particularly in roles such as broadcast journalism or talk show hosting, requires individuals who are charismatic and confident. These traits may be more common in people with psychopathy, who often excel at manipulating others.

Salesperson

Sales is a profession that requires a certain amount of aggression and persistence. Individuals with psychopathic tendencies may be particularly skilled at closing deals and negotiating contracts, as well as navigating the social dynamics of the sales environment.

Surgeon

Surgeons are often seen as confident and assertive individuals, which may be traits associated with psychopathy. Additionally, the high-pressure, high-stakes nature of surgery may attract those who are drawn to excitement and risk.

Journalist

Journalists are often required to navigate complex social and political landscapes, as well as deal with a high degree of stress and uncertainty. These factors may appeal to individuals with psychopathic traits, who may thrive in situations that require quick thinking and decisiveness.

Police officer

While not all police officers are psychopaths, research has found that a higher-than-average number of law enforcement personnel exhibit psychopathic traits. The high-stress, high-stakes nature of the job, as well as the need for assertiveness and risk-taking, may make it appealing to individuals with psychopathic tendencies.

Clergy

The role of clergy requires a high degree of empathy and compassion, but there are some individuals who may be drawn to religious positions for more sinister reasons. Research has found that individuals with psychopathic traits may be attracted to roles in which they can exert power and control over others.

Chef

The move sets the stage for adults 60 and older to get vaccinated this fall but first, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention must decide if every senior really needs RSV protection or only those considered at high risk from the respiratory syncytial virus. CDC's advisers will debate that question in June.

Germany revokes ex-chancellor Schrder's office privileges for his friendly relations with Russia, Putin Signs of the Times

A Berlin court ruled on Thursday that former German Chancellor Gerhard Schrder does not have an automatic right to an office and staff in the German capital as a former chancellor. Schrder was challenging a decision last May by the Bundestag parliament's budgetary committee, which stripped the former chancellor of the priveleges. Schrder can still appeal Thursday's verdict, which may not be final. The court argued that only the Bundestag, the lower house of the German parliament, could decide what it spent such money on, and that even if traditionally former German chancellors had received a small office and staff with seemingly no strings attached, as Schrder's legal team had argued, nowhere was this written into law.

The Opinion Video above is about a drug problem but not the one you may think. While the United States struggles to deal with the opioid crisis, theres a quieter drug epidemic that has been unfolding for a lot longer. It involves a substance that was normalized long ago but that, by some measures, plays a role in more than 140,000 deaths a year.

Its alcohol.

But dont worry. We here at Opinion Video are not a bunch of temperance reformers coming to take away your six-packs and single malts. We just think theres a lot more that American lawmakers could be doing to lessen the...

Does Manchin Own Biden on Energy Policy? Dissident Voice

Its understandable that, when the Senate Dems need 50 of their 51 members to vote on something for it to pass, Joe Manchin and Krysten Sinema have a lot more influence than they should. But it has been maddening to see, on the one hand, corrupt coal baron Joe Manchin using that power to advance his and corporate fossil fuelers interests as head of the Senate Energy and Natural Resources Committee while, on the other hand, President Joe Biden says nothing publicly to counter him.

Over a year ago Manchin effectively took over FERC, the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission. This happened right after a 3-2 vote by the then-Democratic majority of commissioners to strengthen FERCs analysis of environmental justice and greenhouse gas emissions impacts when a methane/fracked gas company applies for a permit to build a new pipeline, an LNG export terminal and/or other gas infrastructure. Manchin and Republicans were able to get one of the three Democrats, Willie Phillips, to reverse his vote in support of that new policy.

When Biden renominated FERC chair Richard Glick last fall for a new term after his existing term expired, Manchin refused to even hold a hearing on the nomination, and he is now gone. Who did Biden choose to replace him, on an Acting Chair basis? Willie Phillips.

And an article on Tuesday in E&E News reported: Manchin is relaunching his quest to overhaul the nations permitting laws by reintroducing his proposal that capsized last year. The West Virginia Democrats bill largely matches the language and provisions of a negotiated measure that failed to advance in the last Congress. A news report on the same day reported that Biden is supporting this mainly regressive legislation.

The Biden team apparently thinks that staying quiet about Manchins outrageous abuse of poweror worse, giving support to itfor the next year and a half is going to help him and the Democrats win on November 5, 2024.

Is this approach going to lead to the needed, massive voter turnout of young people, those seriously concerned about the climate emergency, those in low-wealth and people of color communities most directly impacted negatively by our fossil fuel economy? No, it is not. It will do the opposite.

Im sure Biden and the Dems will win more votes of young people, those climate concerned, and people of color than the Republicans, but the key issue is turnout. Without a massive turnout from those and other constituencies, the MAGA Republicans could end up continuing to control at least one house of Congress, and it might be worse, maybe much worse.

Now is the time when the Biden Administration ne...

Ukraine denies involvement after Russia alleges drone attack on the Kremlin Signs of the Times

Ukraine is denying Russian officials' claims that it attempted to carry out a drone attack on the Kremlin on Wednesday. The country's leaders say that they only see downsides to attempting such an attack, since it'd likely invite Russian escalation. "Russia is clearly preparing a large-scale terrorist attack." Mykhailo Podolyak wrote on Twitter this morning after videos of the claimed attack circulated on social media. "Ukraine wages an exclusively defensive war and does not attack targets on the territory of the Russian Federation," he asserted. "What for? This does not solve any military issue. But it gives [Russia] grounds to justify its attacks on civilians." Podolyak wrote that he believes the attack indicates "the guerrilla activities of local resistance forces."

Halt! Frenchman fails in EU escape attempt - Vehicle disabled at Poland-Russia border Signs of the Times

A Frenchman has been arrested and fined after he plowed his car through a border checkpoint separating Poland from Russia's Kaliningrad Region. The man reportedly told security officers that he planned on building a new life outside the EU. The man pulled up at the Grzechotki checkpoint on Tuesday morning, but was turned away as he lacked the proper documents to leave Poland, Polish border officials said in a statement. The man turned back, but returned in the afternoon to the checkpoint, which separates northern Poland from the Russian exclave of Kaliningrad. This time, he accelerated and rammed his Citroen through the barrier, before stopping when border guards deployed a spike strip.

UK Prime Minister makes stunning and brave admission that women do not have penises Signs of the Times

UK Prime Minister Rishi Sunak has confirmed that no women in fact have penises, in a political statement that will somehow manage to cause controversy. Britain's Conservative Party Prime Minister Rishi Sunak has confirmed in an interview his understanding that 100 per cent of women do not have penises, a statement that marks the latest chapter in one of the country's most bizarre political controversies in its centuries-long history. Despite how obvious many will find such an observation, such a view is not held by some on the country's increasingly sex-politics-obsessed left, with a Green Party member of Scotland's devolved parliament claiming instead that biological male rapists have the right to call themselves women while in prison. Speaking to the political news and opinion blog ConservativeHome, UK PM Sunak agreed with the point put to him that 100 per cent of women do not have penises.

Judge dismisses Trump's $100 million lawsuit against The New York Times Signs of the Times

A New York Supreme Court judge on Wednesday threw out the $100 million lawsuit brought by former President Donald Trump against The New York Times concerning a 2018 report on his taxes. Trump filed the lawsuit against the liberal paper, as well as his estranged niece, Mary Trump, in Sep. 2021, accusing them of "tortiously breaching and/or interfering with his contractual rights and otherwise maliciously conspiring against him" for the report on his taxes. Justice Robert R. Reed said in his ruling that Trump's claims against The Times "fail as a matter of constitutional law." He added that the Times' reporting was at "the very core of protected First Amendment activity."

BEST OF THE WEB: America's obsession with DEI Is sabotaging our medical schools Signs of the Times

'I spent over 50 years as a physician and educator at Penn Med. Now I'm using civil rights legislation to protect the profession and American patients.' For better or worse, I have had a front-row seat to the meltdown of twenty-first-century medicine. Many colleagues and I are alarmed at how the DEI agenda which promotes people and policies based on race, ethnicity, gender, religion, and sexual orientation rather than merit is undermining healthcare for all patients regardless of their status. Five years ago I was associate dean of curriculum at the University of Pennsylvania's Perelman School of Medicine, and prior to that, codirector of its highly regarded kidney division. Around that time, Penn's vice dean for education started to advocate that we train medical students to be activists for "social justice." The university also implemented a new "pipeline program," allowing ten students a year from HBCUs (historically black colleges or universities) to attend its med school...

BEST OF THE WEB: Green madness: New York to ban gas stoves and heating systems in new construction Signs of the Times

New York, beginning in 2026, will prohibit gas stoves and heating systems for new construction of buildings seven stories or less, according to reports. The Associated Press reported that a law negotiated between New York Gov. Kathy Hochul, a Democrat, and fellow party members in the legislature is included in the state budget. The legislation also gives the Empire State a head start in the race among several states looking to pass similar bans they say are intended to reduce emissions from buildings. New York plans to phase in the elimination of fossil fuel heating devices in 2026, when newly constructed buildings must have electric-powered induction ranges and heat pumps. Buildings that already have gas elements will be grandfathered in under the new law. Hochul spoke to reporters on Tuesday just before legislators began voting on the budget.

Biden to send 1,500 troops to border ahead of expected migrant surge he created Signs of the Times

The Biden administration is planning to temporarily deploy 1,500 active-duty troops to the U.S.-Mexico border ahead of an expected surge in migrants. The announcement comes as Title 42, a policy that allows for the rapid expulsion of migrants at the border and blocks them from seeking asylum, is set to expire May 11. A U.S. official told The Hill the troops would be deployed for 90 days to assist with work including ground-based detection and monitoring, data entry, and warehouse support, but they would not be doing law enforcement work. The troops are meant to station at the border until U.S. Customs and Border Protection can more adequately address its needs through contracted support, according to the official. DHS officials have predicted that attempts to cross the border could climb following the end of the policy, which was first implemented under the Trump administration.

In Memory of Dmitry Petrov : An Incomplete Biography and Translation of His Work CrimethInc.

On April 19, 2023, three anarchists were killed in battle near Bakhmut: an American named Cooper Andrews, an Irishman named Finbar Cafferkey, and a Russian named Dmitry Petrov, known to us until then as Ilya Leshy. People in our networks have shared undertakings with all three of these comrades over the years.

You can read about Coopers motivations in his own words here and consult a eulogy from his comrades here. You can learn about Finbars lifelong activism here, read an interview with him here, and listen to a song of his here. In the following eulogy, we explore the life of Dmitry Petrov, who also went by the noms de guerre Ilya Leshy and Fil Kuznetsov. For background, you should start by reading the statements from his comrades in the Anarcho-Communist Combat Organization, the Resistance Committee, and Solidarity Collectives, as well as Dmitrys statement from beyond the grave, all of which are available here.

A few weeks before the war began, Dmitry participated in an interview that we included in our coverage of the unfolding situation. On the first day of the Russian invasion, under what must have been challenging conditions, Dmitry took time to speak with us about how anarchists were responding. Throughout our exchanges over the following year, we were impressed by his humility, the earnestness with which he approached his efforts, and his sincere desire for critique.1

When Dmitry was killed, his comrades revealed that he had been involved in some of the most significant anarchist initiatives in 21st-century Russia, including co-founding the Anarcho-Communist Combat Organization. Here, we will provide an overview of his efforts as...

Ivermectin ban lifted in Australia Signs of the Times

Doctors will be free to prescribe ivermectin 'off-label' from June 1st 2023, the Australian Therapeutic Goods Administration (TGA) announced today. This is a reversal of a national ban on off-label prescribing of ivermectin, which the TGA enacted on September 10th 2021, in an attempt to prevent doctors from prescribing the drug to treat Covid. At the time, the TGA stated that the restriction was necessary because: People would be at risk if they took ivermectin instead of getting vaccinated;People who took ivermectin may choose not to get tested or to seek medical care if they had symptoms;Social media posts were promoting higher doses of ivermectin than what is normally recommended for approved uses; There had been a 3-4 fold uptake in ivermectin and the TGA was worried about a shortage disadvantaging vulnerable people who really needed the drug.

Oye Como Va: Feminist Foreign Policy in Latin America The Duck of Minerva

Feminist foreign policies (FFP) are considered the latest contribution of feminism to global governance. Eleven countries around the world have embraced FFP, aiming to systematically integrate a gender perspective throughout foreign policy agendas.

In recent years, FFP has spread to Latin America: Mexico introduced an FFP in 2020 and the newly elected Chilean and Colombian governments have expressed their intentions of adopting the framework.

This growing interest in FFP across Latin American raises important questions: What exactly is this feminist foreign policy and what is there to gain by naming foreign policies feminist? Should Latin American feminists engage, support, critique, or be suspicious of this global trend? What does FFP look like in a Latin American context?

What is Feminist Foreign Policy?

FFP is emerging as a new subfield in feminist international relations. Building on womens rights and peace movements around the globe, feminism occupies an important position within academic and political spaces since it provides a powerful source of intervention against different forms of discrimination.

The theoretical foundations of FFP, however, are still not clearly defined. What an FFP looks like depends largely on a governments interpretation of the concept.

Sweden first proposed a general FFP model built on what they call the three Rs: resources, representation and rights. Their model went on to define six long-term external objectives centered on policy making with a gender perspective: freedom from different types of gender-based violence; womens participation in preventing and resolving conflicts, and post-conflict peace building; political participation; economic rights and empowerment; and sexual and reproductive health and rights. This initial Swedish proposal served as a basis for other countries policies.

For many foreign policy observers and feminist activists these objectives were still too vague and ambiguous. First, what does foreign policy entail? This question underlies the discussion among academics and activists about feminism being co-opted for neoliberal economic purposes, or if it maintains its potential as a critical proposition. There are also questions concerning contentious topics for feminists. For instance, how is the gender perspective incorporated into defense and security?  Given the long tradition of pacifism in the feminist movement globally and its demand for an active commitment to disarmament, how can countries like Canada simultaneously export arms and pursue an FFP?

International organizations have tried to provide definitional clarity. In its most...

Ireland Set to Pass Far-Reaching Hate Speech Laws CLG News

Ireland Set to Pass Far-Reaching Hate Speech Laws | 2 May 2023 | Barring amendment or rejection, a pernicious new bill restricting free speech is set to become enshrined in Irish law. Under it, mere possession of material deemed "hateful" by the state could result in prison time for those accused, if the state suspects the material is intended for dissemination. Last week, the legislation, designed to shield those with "protected characteristics" from "hate," passed through the Dil ireann, Irelands lower house. Currently, it is being debated by its upper house, the Seanad ireann. Only 14 of the Dils 160 members voted "no" to the bill before it headed to the Seanad. Public awareness about the bill, known as the "Criminal Justice (Incitement to Violence or Hatred and Hate Offences) Bill 2022" has been minimal. It's been largely ignored by the Irish media.

Ireland's New Thoughtcrime Bill Is Shockingly Draconian CLG News

Ireland's New Thoughtcrime Bill Is Shockingly Draconian --You could soon be sent to jail just for 'possessing' offensive material. By Fraser Myers | 3 May 2023 | If the Irish government gets its way, people could soon be arrested and jailed for "hate speech" - even if they never say or write a single "hateful" word. The new Criminal Justice (Incitement to Violence or Hatred and Hate Offences) Bill, which is currently passing through the Irish parliament, contains some shockingly authoritarian provisions. The bill will outlaw the "communication" of material or speech that might "incite hatred" against people with certain protected characteristics (such as race, religion and gender). In practice, if other European hate-speech laws are any guide, "inciting hatred" tends to mean little more than causing offence. This can be punishable by up to five years in prison. As if all that weren't draconian enough, it even makes it a crime, punishable by two years' jail time, to simply "prepare or possess" material likely to "incite hatred." "Possession" could mean nothing more than having an offensive video stored on your computer, or a dodgy meme saved on your phone.

Something is rotten in Schmutzig Switzerland Signs of the Times

In a 'business deal of the century' brokered by the Swiss government, Switzerland's largest bank and its financial pride and joy was acquired by its smaller rival USB for a meagre $3.2 billion. The current affairs sections of the leading news agencies have recently been populated by the breaking news that Credit Suisse had to be sold but to the lowest bidder this time or so it seems. Though this takeover deal, brokered in such a frantic haste over the course of just a few days by the Swiss government stands in silent testimony of this colossal collapse, there is a question hovering in mid air, why did Credit Suisse have to be sold so suddenly 'at such short (banking) notice', given that the giant bank has existed for 166 years with a superb banking tradition among other cutting-edge world banks? If we want to answer this question, we need to bear in mind that the bank at the moment of its acquisition had more than $100 billions in its assets so its financial balance was rather...

The FBI has a document detailing a 'criminal scheme' where Joe Biden gave a foreign national cash for access when he was vice president, Republicans said in a bombshell development in the investigation into the president's family. A whistleblower has come forward with stunning claims that a file 'includes a precise description of how the alleged criminal scheme (involving Biden) was employed as well as its purpose', top GOP members of the House and Senate have said. Sunken 19th century quarantine hospital and cemetery found off Florida Keys Signs of the Times

The hospital had been used to house yellow fever patients before falling into disuse in 1900, then gradually slipping below the waterline in Dry Tortugas National Park off the coast of Florida. For more than 100 years, the sparkling turquoise waters of Dry Tortugas National Park in the Florida Keys have concealed a grim historical relic. Beneath the waves, archaeologists recently discovered the remains of a submerged 19th-century quarantine hospital and adjoining cemetery. According to a statement from the National Park Service, park staff, alongside members of the National Park Service's Submerged Resources Center, the Southeast Archaeological Center, and a University of Miami graduate student, made the discovery while conducting a survey in August 2022.

How European Cities are Breathing New Life into the BDS Movement MintPress News

A succession of events starting in Barcelona, Spain, in February, and followed in Lige, Belgium, and Oslo, Norway, in April sent a strong message to Israel: The Palestinian Boycott, Divestment and Sanctions movement (BDS) is alive and well.

In Barcelona, the citys Mayor canceled a twinning agreement with the Israeli city of Tel Aviv. The decision was not an impulsive one, although Ada Colau is well-known for her principled positions on many issues. It was, however, an outcome of a fully democratic process initiated by a proposal submitted by left-wing parties at the city council.

A few weeks after the decision was made, specifically on February 8, a pro-Israeli legal organization known as The Lawfare Project, announced its intentions to file a lawsuit against Colau because she supposedly acted beyond the scope of her authority.

The Lawfare Project was meant to communicate a message to other city councils in Spain, and the rest of Europe, that there will be serious legal repercussions to boycotting Israel. To the organizations and Israels big surprise, however, other cities quickly advanced their own boycott procedures. They include the Belgian city of Lige and Norways capital city, Oslo.

Liges local leadership did not try to conceal the reasons behind their decision. The city council, it was reported, had decided to suspend relations with the Israeli authorities for running a regime of apartheid, colonization and military occupation. That move was backed by a majority vote at the council, proving once more that the pro-Palestinian moral stance was fully compliant with a democratic process.

Oslo is a particularly interesting case. It was there that the peace process resulted in the Oslo Accords in 1993, which ultimately divided the Palestinians while giving Israel a political cover to continue with its illegal practices while claiming that it has no peace partner.

But Oslo is no longer committed to the empty slogans of the past. In June 2022, the Norwegian government declared its intention to deny the lab...

Parents who raised kids on Disney movies about rebelling against parents not sure why kids are rebelling against their parents Signs of the Times

Local parents Dave and Stacey Martin, who raised their daughter on Disney movies that glamorized rebelling against parents, are flabbergasted to see their teenage daughter now rebelling against her parents. "I just don't get it," said Dave Martin to reporters. "Every movie and song she listened to growing up featured positive messages about listening to her heart, and now she won't listen to me! It's so weird!" Sources say Dave's conflict with his daughter came to a head last night when she defied her father like Moana to sneak out of the house like Ariel, which led to her meeting a strange man just like Pocahontas, only to hang out with the wrong crowd and get gender-confused like Mulan. "What on earth could possibly be influencing her to behave so recklessly?" said Mr. Martin. At publishing time, the parents had addressed the situation by making their daughter stay home all weekend and do chores like Cinderella.

Why Isnt the Democratic World a World? Dissident Voice

Alain Badiou is undoubtedly among the greatest of living philosophers; one that may fairly be credited with rescuing philosophy from academic irrelevance, and the twin enemies of scientism and historicism. For Badiou, philosophy does not merely interpret the world (as Marx famously asserted in his Theses on Feuerbach). For an interpretation of the world, we would do better to look to myths, religions, and the various wisdom schools. Philosophy, presupposing mathematics, is a fundamentally rational and conceptual rather than hermeneutic undertaking, aimed at answering the question: does there exist anything with a universal value, and if so, how is this possible? Badiou secured his place in the philosophical pantheon with three massive tomes, which together provide a rigorous account of Truths, or the production in time and space of things to which we may ascribe universal value: Being and Event (1988), Logics of Worlds (2006), and The Immanence of Truths (2018).

Images of the Present Time (Columbia University Press, 2023) contains a series of three seminars delivered between 2001 and 2004. The first section presents a sustained philosophical analysis of contemporary nihilism and is initially taken up with the question of identifying the emblem, that is, the master signifier of the present time and Badious claim is that democracy is that emblem, a political system that does not prohibit or restrain, or not excessively. This raises the question of how democracy is correlated with freedom: given that fewer and fewer things are prohibited, what does that say for freedom under this regime? Ultimately, not so much: as Descartes already knew, indiscriminate freedom, or the freedom to do whatever you want, is at best the lowest degree of freedom. Thinking youre a free Subject just because whatever you want to do or say is not prohibited is sheer nonsense. It is true, for example, that almost nothing is prohibited in public speech, yet that does not mean that something significant has been publicly pronounced if nothing is prohibited and yet nothing, properly speaking, has been said, freedom does not exist.

Badious central thesis is that, at the present time, there is no world in fact, there is no present, strictly speaking. Why isnt the democratic world a world? In brief, because it is a world in which everyt...

Navy confirms using drag queen influencer as a 'digital ambassador' to attract recruits Signs of the Times

The U.S. Navy confirmed to Breitbart News on Wednesday that it used a drag queen influencer as one of its "digital ambassadors" to attempt to recruit "a wide range of potential candidates." The influencer is active-duty U.S. Navy Yeoman 2nd Class Joshua Kelley, whose stage name is "Harpy Daniels." Kelley served as part of the Navy's pilot ambassador program from October 2022 to March 2023 and has openly performed as a drag queen for awhile, but garnered broader public attention this week after a video of him circulated on social media. Kelley announced in November 2022 in a video on his Instagram page that the Navy asked him to be their "first" "Navy Digital Ambassador."

Can the U.S. Adjust Sensibly to a Multipolar World? Dissident Voice

In his 1987 book The Rise and Fall of the Great Powers, historian Paul Kennedy reassured Americans that the decline the United States was facing after a century of international dominance was relative and not absolute, and is therefore perfectly natural; and that the only serious threat to the real interests of the United States can come from a failure to adjust sensibly to the newer world order.

Since Kennedy wrote those words, we have seen the end of the Cold War, the peaceful emergence of China as a leading world power, and the rise of a formidable Global South. But the United States has indeed failed to adjust sensibly to the newer world order, using military force and coercion in flagrant violation of the UN Charter in a failed quest for longer lasting global hegemony.

Kennedy observed that military power follows economic power. Rising economic powers develop military power to consolidate and protect their expanding economic interests. But once a great powers economic prowess is waning, the use of military force to try to prolong its day in the sun leads only to unwinnable conflicts, as European colonial powers quickly learned after the Second World War, and as Americans are learning today.

While U.S. leaders have been losing wars and trying to cling to international power, a new multipolar world has been emerging. Despite the recent tragedy of Russias invasion of Ukraine and the agony of yet another endless war, the tectonic plates of history are shifting into new alignments that offer hope for the future of humanity. Here are several developments worth watching:

De-dollarizing global trade

For decades, the U.S. dollar was the undisputed king of global currencies. But China, Russia, India, Brazil, Saudi Arabia and other nations are taking steps to conduct more trade in their own currencies, or in Chinese yuan.

Illegal, unilateral U.S. sanctions against dozens of countries around the world have raised fears that holding large dollar reserves leaves countries vulnerable to U.S. financial coercion. Many countries have already been gradually diversifying their foreign currency reserves, from 70% globally held in dollars in 1999 to 65% in 2016 to...

Snow-laden Sierra gets more snow halfway through spring, up to 15 inches in 48 hours Signs of the Times

The calendar may show spring is halfway to summer, but it's still snowing in California. In the Sierra Nevada, the Heavenly ski resort at Lake Tahoe reported Wednesday that 15 inches of snow had fallen over 48 hours, burnishing the epic snowpack left by a relentlessly wet winter. Northwest of Tahoe, 5.5 inches was recorded over two days at the University of California, Berkeley, Central Sierra Snow Lab, raising its season total to 743 inches. "Another 2.6" of snow over the last 24 hours brings our 2-day total to 5.5" and our season total to 743," researchers at the lab tweeted. "As expected, we're still seeing melt but the rate has slowed due to the clouds and cooler temps." Strikingly, winter weather advisories were to take effect Wednesday night in Southern California mountain ranges. Forecasters predicted 4-8 inches of snow above 6,000 feet and local totals up to 14 inches.

Einstein researchers discover how long-lasting memories form in the brain Signs of the Times

Helping your mother make pancakes when you were three...riding your bike without training wheels...your first romantic kiss: How do we retain vivid memories of long-ago events? As described in a paper published online today in Neuron, researchers at Albert Einstein College of Medicine have found the explanation. "The ability to learn new information and store it for long periods is one of the brain's most remarkable features," said Robert H. Singer, Ph.D., co-corresponding author of the paper. "We've made a startling discovery in mice regarding the molecular basis for making those long-term memories." Dr. Singer is professor of cell biology and in the Dominick P. Purpura Department of Neuroscience, chair emeritus of anatomy & structural biology, and director of the Program in RNA Biology at Einstein.

BEST OF THE WEB: Who Stole the 2020 Presidential Election? Antony Blinken and others have much to answer for Signs of the Times

The corruption engaged in by the Democratic Party leadership appears to be never-ending and no one is ever held accountable. A recent report described how Michael Morell, the former acting Central Intelligence Agency (CIA) director, colluded with Antony Blinken, who was then a senior official in the 2020 Joe Biden presidential campaign, to prepare and find signatories to a letter to discredit those seeking to exploit the emerging Hunter Biden laptop scandal, which was threatening to do real damage to the Biden electoral prospects. Following in the footsteps of the Hillary Clinton 2016 campaign, which sought to use fabricated information from the Steele dossier to smear Donald Trump and some of his advisors, Blinken suggested that Morell promote the argument that the laptop story involved Russia and should be dismissed as little more than a disinformation operation ordered by President Vladimir Putin. At the time, there was no evidence whatsoever to suggest that Russia had had...

Report reveals 6,500 hospital sexual assaults in England and Wales over four years Signs of the Times

More than 6,500 rapes and sexual assaults have been recorded in hospitals in England and Wales, over nearly four years, with only 4.1% of suspects known to have been charged. A Women's Rights Network report, authored by University of Reading Professor of Criminology, Jo Phoenix, found that one in seven of these crimes occurred on hospital wards. Shocking crimes, including the rapes of several children under 13, have been disclosed by 35 police forces, responding to Freedom of Information requests sent to 43 forces across the U.K. Professor Phoenix said, "The figures are shocking and prove that NHS Trusts are failing in their duty to protect both patients and staff. Further, the fact that 95.9% of all reports were either no-further-actioned or not recorded is also truly appalling. Although there are no reasons given within the research for this alarmingly low figure, what is clear is that there appears to be ingrained inertia in dealing with this safeguarding and policing failure."

Blaming conservatives for collapse: Damned if they do, damned if they don't on the debt ceiling Signs of the Times

In 2021 I published an article titled 'The Fed's Catch-22 Taper Is A Weapon, Not A Policy Error' in which I outlined the deliberately engineered trap the Federal Reserve has created for the American economy. Specifically, I confronted the issue of strangled liquidity through increasing debt costs vs continued money printing and inflation. It's an issue that Jerome Powell warned about in 2012, years before he became Fed Chairman; the consequences of creating a stimulus dependent system and then abruptly cutting off the life support. As soon as he was installed as the head of the central bank he implemented the very policies he predicted would cause a crash. The result? We just saw the beginning of the end with the latest banking crisis involving companies like SVB, First Republic and Credit Suisse - It's not just US finances, but banks around the world that rely on liquidity injections from the Fed to stay afloat. The central bankers addicted the system to cheap easy debt and now...

Scandal in Tasmania: The Edifice Sports Complex Runs Amok Dissident Voice

Profligate, a betrayal of public service, a misspending of state goods, a fiscal barbarism. By any estimation, recent efforts regarding sport in the small Australian state of Tasmania, unmoored from the mainland, distant, and, in many ways, depressed, has become the unexpected centre of a debate: Why on earth should the public purse at both State and Federal level fork out hundreds of millions in dollar currency for a stadium for Australian Footballs newest recruit? There are, lets face it, other handy alternatives.

Historically, Australian sport has been bosom-tied to corrupt administrative and state management. Administrators of the myriad sporting codes are typically conceited in assuming they provide a service for an increasingly obese populace. The sports personalities turn up and play; spectators turn up in their colours, pies and beers; the sporting hierarchs can then claim they are doing society a service. The logical equation that follows from this is revenue raising for the facilities as long as the sporting body is not the one doing it.

What is being proposed in Tasmania, a state suffering from chronic homelessness, chronic indigence and desperation on the health front, is a carbuncle stadium on a waterfront at Macquarie Point, a project that promises to cost $715 million. Those attending it will not be doing so for an aesthetic appreciation of the view: they will be in the enclosed stadium itself, watching the gladiatorial performance. All of this is deemed necessary for Tasmanias imminent welcome into the fold of the Australian Football League (AFL).

The jaundiced view from the Tasmanian Liberal government, led by Premier Jeremy Rockliff, is that having a spanking new stadium to accommodate a spanking new team at Macquarie Point is just the ticket. The suggested price tag of contribution from his government: $375 million.

In an exercise of indulgent and shameless deception, Rockliff, as the AFLs Manchurian Candidate, has dressed the entire enterprise up as an urban renewable project like no other that has ever been seen here in Tasmania. Entertainment, he dreams, will be coupled with the unlocking of potential, where we can build a world-class multipurpose entertainment and sporting where all Tasmanians can enjoy.

From the Commonwealth, $240 million is promised in what Prime Minister Anthony Albanese is calling an exciting project, in addition to $65 million towards upgrading the UTAS Stadium in Launceston. Albanese has been busy fluffing up matters by claiming that this whole act of profligacy had less to do with football than a grand exercise in social redevelopment, an exercise of structural oxygenation that will produce (no modelling, evidence or otherwise is supplied) 4,200 jobs.

How and why the Pentagon gets rewarded for being corrupt Signs of the Times

America's military is the only branch of the federal Government that the American people respect, and "The military" is also the most respected of all institutions in America. The military is also the most corrupt part of the federal Government, and the only part of the federal government that's so corrupt that it has never been audited. Although the U.S. Congress recently required it to pass an audit i.e., to become approved by an independent team of auditors as to the completeness and honesty of its financial records the five audit-attempts that were then made all failed and had to be aborted, and no audit has yet been successfully completed on the most corrupt and publicly respected branch of the U.S. federal Government. Instead of the military getting less money in the federal budgets as a consequence of that, it still keeps getting not only increasing budgets but an increasing proportion of the Government's money. It gets rewarded as - if it weren't what it is. And what it...

The Best Time to Apply Weed Killer: A Guide to Lawn Weed Control The Event Chronicle

Maintaining a beautiful, lush lawn is a dream for many homeowners. However, pesky weeds can quickly take over, ruining the overall appearance of your lawn. Weed killers are a popular solution for controlling these unwanted plants, but timing is everything when it comes to using them effectively.

Understanding Weed Growth

Source: thisoldhouse.com

To effectively control them, its important to understand their growth cycle. They can be classified as annual, biennial, or perennial. Annual weeds complete their life cycle in a single year, while biennial ones take two years to complete their cycle. Perennial ones live for multiple years, often regenerating from their roots or seeds.

In general, they tend to grow most aggressively in the spring and early summer, as soil temperatures warm up and moisture levels increase. This makes spring a critical time for the control, as its when they are most vulnerable to treatment.

That is why we are fighting an irregular WAR globally now.

there is nothing here that is surprising. It is more surprising that so many are so blind.  The smart were never blind, but the target market was never the smart, it was the B team who are merely good enough.

Recent Case of Severe Microwave Syndrome Reveals Problems With 5G Terra Forming Terra

I am sorry folks, you do not aim an antenna at someones apartment.  What can go wrong?  Here we find out and it was always obvious.

These antennas need to be well above all rooftops in line of sight to a resonable range and obvious 60 meters does not cut it.

We need real lawsuits to knock this form of negligence commercially unpopular.

After a 5G base station was installed within 60 meters of her second-floor apartment, a middle-aged, otherwise healthy, Swedish woman developed debilitating symptoms corresponding with radiofrequency/microwave syndrome, researchers at the Environment and Cancer Research Foundation (ECRF) in Sweden reported last month.

This was the third such case documented by the researchers.

Unbelievable Preservation: Blood Found in Veins of Lady of Dai Mummy Terra Forming Terra

This is a full report on perhaps the best preservation method ever used.  It obviously worked wonderfully.

I also suspect that we will find additional burials just like this.  It is irrelevant why folks did all this, it is enough that they did and knew enough to be this hugely successful.  That fluid needs to be understood because it will allow us to actually preserve no end of pathological samples under glass as well.

It should be much better than formaldahyde.

Unbelievable Preservation: Blood Found in Veins of Lady of Dai Mummy

The 2,200-year-old mummified body of a Chinese noblewoman known as Xin Zhui, or The Lady of Dai, is an anomaly. When her body was discovered, it was so incredibly well preserved that it equalled that of someone recently deceased.

Xin Zhui, the Lady of Dai , died between 178 and 145 BC, at around 50 years of age. The objects inside her tomb indicated a woman of wealth and importance. In 1971, her Han Dynasty -era tomb was discovered accidentally by workers digging an air raid shelter.

Net Zero and the Transhuman Agenda: War Against Nature and Humanity Terra Forming Terra

This sharply describes what has been going on for decades.  It likely began with the global warming hoax.  Here are the known details without the usual apologea.

i never identified this as an assault on the human race even though i had met folks holding really odd beliefs regarding the human population.

understand that what no one truly understands is that the individual human imprint on the environment has actually been steadily diminishing as our population increases.  It is reasonable that it will actually trend to zero as the population climbs past 100,000,000,000.  That is our human intent simply because we want living comfort, access to a healthy nature and a working community.  This has been called Heaven on Earth and it is the objective of this blog enterprise.

The globalists pitch the failures of the past as their currency to gain political control for their GOD KING.  Their nature is stupid is as stupid does.

EU Backs Dutch Scheme to Forcibly Shut Down Thousands of Farms, Ban Farmers From Returning to Agriculture Forever CLG News

EU Backs Dutch Scheme to Forcibly Shut Down Thousands of Farms, Ban Farmers From Returning to Agriculture Forever | 3 May 2023 | The European Commission in Brussels has backed a scheme by the globalist government of Prime Minister Mark Rutte in the Netherlands that would see thousands of farms shut down in order to comply with EU climate goals. On Tuesday, the governing arm of the European Union officially threw its support behind plans by the Dutch government to buy out thousands of farmers from their lands in order to meet the EU's Natura 2000 scheme to protect certain environments. The plan, which would offer farmers 120 per cent of the value of their farm, could see some 3,000 so-called "peak" emitters of nitrogen shut down... Brussels said that the plans were "necessary and appropriate" as they met the broader goals of the European Green Deal. "The positive [sic] effects transcend any distortions of the free market," the statement added.

New York legislature okays ban on gas stoves, fossil fuel use in new buildings CLG News

New York legislature okays ban on gas stoves, fossil fuel use in new buildings | 3 May 2023 | The New York legislature has approved a budget package that includes a ban on natural gas hookups and fossil fuel use in new homes as the state works to transition toward renewable energy. The provision would effectively eliminate the use of common household appliances such as gas stoves in new construction. The ban will take effect in 2026 for buildings under seven stories and in 2029 for those with additional floors, the Washington Post reported. Its implementation will mark the first statewide ban in the nation. It does provide exceptions for restaurants, manufacturing facilities, healthcare structures, and some other businesses, though it likely will face legal challenges from the state's fossil fuel industry. Gas currently is responsible for 46% of the Empire State's electricity generation, the Post noted. The ban further bars the use of heating oil and propane.

Liberal SCOTUS Justice Took $3M From Book Publisher, Didn't Recuse From Its Cases CLG News

Liberal SCOTUS Justice Took $3M From Book Publisher, Didn't Recuse From Its Cases --Random House was her main source of earned income, but she voted on key decision where publisher stood to lose money, even as similarly-positioned colleague recused. | 3 May 2023 | Liberal Supreme Court Justice Sonia Sotomayor declined to recuse herself from multiple copyright infringement cases involving book publisher Penguin Random House despite having been paid millions by the firm for her books, making it by far her largest source of income, records show. In 2010, she got a $1.2 million book advance from Knopf Doubleday Group, a part of the conglomerate. In 2012, she reported receiving two advance payments from the publisher totaling $1.9 million. In 2013, Sotomayor voted in a decision for whether the court should hear a case against the publisher called Aaron Greenspan v. Random House, despite then-fellow Justice Stephen Breyer recusing after also receiving money from the publisher. Greenspan was a Harvard classmate of Mark Zuckerberg's who wrote a book about the founding of Facebook and contended that Random House rejected his book proposal and then awarded a deal to another author who copied his book and eventually turned it into the movie The Social Network.

Gates-Funded 'Edible' Food Coating Gets Green Light From Regulators CLG News

Gates-Funded 'Edible' Food Coating Gets Green Light From Regulators | 3 May 2023 | Apeel Sciences is a U.S.-based company that's partnered with the Gates Foundation to develop a new product, Edipeel, an edible coating for fruit and vegetables to solve the supposed food wastage "crisis." U.K. supermarket chains Tesco and Asda are already trialing the product, along with avocado producers to extend the shelf life of their fresh produce. The majority of concerns thus far center around the safety of the product. Perhaps more concerning is the potential lack of choice for consumers that might not want to consume produce coated in Edipeel, as supermarket chains and others get sucked into the hype. Particularly, as the coating has also been approved for use on organic produce in the U.S. further reducing consumer options and it can't be removed even by scrubbing the produce. It's not known whether any elements of the coating can be absorbed by the vegetables or fruit that have been coated.

The Dangers of 5G Armstrong Economics

The Environment and Cancer Research Foundation (ECRF) reported three incidents of otherwise healthy people developing microwave syndrome after 5G towers were installed near their homes or places of work. Microwave syndrome is a condition that can occur when people are exposed to high levels of electromagnetic radiation. These radiations operate at a frequency of 300 MHz to 300 GHz and, as the Annals of Clinical and Medical Case Reports noted, there is no previous research on possible negative effects on human health and the environment.

One study from October 2022 did expose rats to 5G radiation of 3.5 GHz for only two hours a day, five days a week, for one month. They dissected the brain tissue of the test subjects and found notable changes. Our results indicate that 3.5 GHz RFR causes changes in the energy metabolism and appetite of both healthy and diabetic rats. Thus, 5 G may not be innocent in terms of its biological effects, especially in the presence of diabetes. The rats also experienced decreased irisin levels (a hormone correlated with weight loss and cognition) and their brain neurons began degenerating in the hippocampus region of the brain, which is responsible for memory.

The harmful effects of 5G have not been exposed; it has been labeled a conspiracy theory so that no one questions what this radiation is doing to our bodies. The American Cancer Society even admitted in 2020 that 5G towers may have side effects, but they were not sure. Most expert organizations agree that more research is needed to help clarify this, especially for any possible long-term effects, the society concluded. The  International Agency for Research on Cancer (IARC), part of the World Health Organization, admitted in 2011 that 5G towers were possibly carcinogenic to humans.

American Cops Resigning En Masse Armstrong Economics

Being a police officer in America has to be one of the least appealing jobs in todays day and age. After 2020 and the rise of the BLM movement, there were countless calls to defund police agencies. Officers in blue cities must sit idly and watch their hometowns burn because those in charge are light on crime, and no one wants to become the next target of a police brutality campaign. The people in power who they protect know this and are worried.

As civil unrest rises into 2024, US cops will be in the middle of a brewing civil war. A number of active police also serve in the military reserves, and I know of a few young men personally who have been called to serve overseas in lands surrounding Ukraine. As for those who remain on the force, the government will not allow them to have personal privacy.

New Jersey implemented a new law requiring all officers to disclose their social media accounts to the government by 2024. They will also be required to disclose any organizations they are affiliated with, including religious groups. This will spread to other states as well because the government knows their cities will fall if the police side with the people who WILL protest and cause upheaval in the time leading up to the election.

Cops are resigning at a rapid pace. The NYPD, once a proud force, saw 3,701 cops leave the force in 2022. That marks the highest number of officers leaving the force since the 9/11 attacks. Philadelphias police force fell from 6,590 officers in 2019 to only 5,983 by 2022. ...

Russia Did NOT Destroy Nord Stream Armstrong Economics

Intelligence agencies backed by the mainstream media are still trying to blame Russia for the destruction of the Nord Stream pipelines. A new BBC report claims that Russian ships and submarines were present when the blasts occurred. These ghost ships allegedly had their transmitters turned off, but they were not clever enough to encode their radio communications. The report admits that there is no conclusive evidence to pin the destruction on Moscow, but theyre seeking to create evidence.

Russia had no motive to destroy the pipeline that provided energy to the majority of Europe. The pipeline was Russias biggest tool of leverage, and they had the power to turn off the gas flow without destroying the entire thing. There is no possibility that Russia would have destroyed its biggest bargaining chip. There is a possibility, however, that Europe would have caved and continued purchasing Russian energy. Neocons like National Security Adviser Jake Sullivan, Victoria Nuland, the Undersecretary of State for Policy, and Secretary of State Tony Blinken openly stated that they did not approve of the pipelines and wanted them gone.

If Russia invades, that means tanks and troops crossing the border of Ukraine again, then there will be, there will be no longer a Nord Stream 2, Biden stated in February 2022 during a joint press conference with German Chancellor Olaf Scholz. I promise you, we will be able to do it.

It comes as no coincidence that politicians began thanking America after the explosions. Radek Sikorski, Polands former minister of national defense and EU Parliament member, posted an image on Twitter of the leak with the caption, Thank you, USA.

Zelensky Tells just Too Many Lies To Keep Them All Straight Armstrong Economics

The BBC reported Zelenskys comment regarding the drone attack on the Kremlin: We dont attack Putin or Moscow. We fight on on our territory. We are defending our villages and cities, he said, speaking on a visit to Finland.

Zelensky is such a liar this man should not be greeted by any head of state. The Leaked Pentagon Papers suggest Washington was secretly monitoring Kyivs military plans, amid fears an assault on Moscow he planned for Fed 24th anniversary would trigger a major escalation. The Neocons told him to stand down because they want to provoke Putin to attack to justify the US getting involved in the war.

The US military has already been told to prepare for war. The US is sending troops and has been negotiating what is known as DCA defense cooperation agreements treaty which allows the US troops freely operate in foreign countries. The US is now preparing to send troops to Finland.

Ozempic, obesity, and the modern food trap (We) can do better

Ozempic is the new "miracle" drug on the market, although it's not a new drug, it's just a successful drug used for diabetes control that has been re-purposed for weight loss. It has enjoyed spectacular media headlines because of its endorsement by celebrities, especially with TicTok's documenting the weight loss - called body transformation - of celebrities having millions of viewers and even an endorsement from Elon Musk.   This enthusiasm is justified because in Australia almost two-thirds of adults are overweight or obese and its economic cost was estimated to be $11.8b in 2018.   While it does have some side effects it has been a life changer, and perhaps life saver, for those with morbid obesity.   Unfortunately, its newfound popularity with those just wanting to lose a few kilos has created a drug shortage that threatens the supply to diabetes sufferers.

Its also highly controversial because the basic fundamental of health care is, or should be, based on the 16th-century thoughts of Desiderius Erasmus, a Dutch philosopher and humanist who is attributed with the  quote,  "Prevention is better than cure."

And Ozempic, despite its action triggering a chemical repugnance to food that reduces calorie intake, is still a process that addresses the symptom and not the cause.    This is not just nit-picking, the process that created this crisis was not only a cruel trick on humanity but one that became entrenched through the tacit support of governments.   The relevantly sudden increase in body mass (BMI) can be documented by viewing images of people taken from the early days of photography.      In those images, most people appear what we might call skinny, but they were what humans had always been and perhaps what we should be.   By following the time scale these photos reveal changes that were largely the result of diet.  Most noticeable was an increase in height of adolescents which came from the better diet available after WW2 restrictions but around the 1970's weight increases become apparent.

The causes for this sudden weight change and its associated health problems has been the subject of a great deal of research - one that was hampered by conflicting views of health professionals and spurious information.   Researchers were also confronted with different situations that existed in nations like Egypt, Mexico, the US, and Australia and too often targeted causes, like lack of exercise, that were being promoted by organizations with vested interests.   It took almost 30 years to debunk the argument that being overweight was caused by lack of exercise but in that time fat people became targete...

On the trail of a mysterious force in space Signs of the Times

An initial study of dark energy with eROSITA X-Ray telescope indicates that it is uniformly distributed in space and time. When Edwin Hubble observed distant galaxies in the 1920s, he made the groundbreaking discovery that the universe is expanding. It was not until 1998, however, that scientists observing Type Ia supernovae further discovered that the universe is not just expanding but has begun a phase of accelerating expansion. "To explain this acceleration, we need a source," says Joseph Mohr, astrophysicist at LMU. "And we refer to this source as 'dark energy,' which provides a sort of 'anti-gravity' to speed up cosmic expansion." Scientifically, the existence of dark energy and cosmic acceleration are a surprise, and this indicates that our current understanding of physics is either incomplete or incorrect. The significance of the accelerating expansion was underscored in 2011 when its discoverers received the Nobel Prize in Physics. "Meanwhile, the nature of dark energy has...

FBI has document alleging pay-to-play scheme involving Joe Biden, lawmakers allege --James Comer subpoenas memo, says he was alerted to it by whistleblower. | 3 May 2023 | House and Senate GOP investigators said Wednesday they have learned the FBI possesses a document alleging a pay-to-play bribery scheme involving Joe Biden and have subpoenaed it in an explosive new twist in their long running corruption probe of the first family. Senate Budget Committee ranking member and long-time whistleblower advocate Chuck Grassley (R-Iowa) and House Committee on Oversight and Accountability Chairman James Comer (R-Ky.) said they learned of the document, known as FD-1023, from a whistleblower. "We believe the FBI possesses an unclassified internal document that includes very serious and detailed allegations implicating the current President of the United States," Grassley said. "What we don't know is what, if anything, the FBI has done to verify these claims or investigate further. The FBI's recent history of botching politically charged investigations demands close congressional oversight." Said Comer: "The information provided by a whistleblower raises concerns that then-Vice President Biden allegedly engaged in a bribery scheme with a foreign national. DNA recovered from 20,000-year-old pendant found in Denisovan cave belonged to woman Signs of the Times

Artifacts made of stone, bones or teeth provide important insights into the subsistence strategies of early humans, their behavior and culture. However, until now it has been difficult to attribute these artifacts to specific individuals, since burials and grave goods were very rare in the Paleolithic. This has limited the possibilities of drawing conclusions about, for example, division of labor or the social roles of individuals during this period. In order to directly link cultural objects to specific individuals and thus gain deeper insights into Paleolithic societies, an international, interdisciplinary research team, led by the Max Planck Institute for Evolutionary Anthropology in Leipzig, has developed a novel, non-destructive method for DNA isolation from bones and teeth. Although they are generally rarer than stone tools, the scientists focused specifically on artifacts made from skeletal elements, because these are more porous and are therefore more likely to retain DNA...

UK's Treasury failing to publish details of how its ministers are spending public money Signs of the Times

Treasury ministers appear to have broken government guidelines by failing to publish details of their department's spending for several months, and in some cases more than two years. Public records show the Treasury is the worst department in Whitehall for publishing key data on what its officials are spending public funds on, despite its role overseeing spending across government. The gaps add to concerns about high spending levels and low transparency at the Treasury, including during the period for which Rishi Sunak was chancellor. Earlier this year it emerged Sunak's Treasury had spent 3,000 on photographs to hang on the department's walls and 4,500 on rooms in Venice for a G20 meeting.

Revolving door lobbyists help defense contractors get off to strong start in 2023 Original Journalism from OpenSecrets News

The defense sector hired dozens of former armed services committee and Department of Defense personnel last year, with more swinging through the so-called revolving door to lobby on behalf of defense sector clients for the first time in the first quarter of 2023, a new OpenSecrets analysis of federal lobbying disclosures found.

At least 672 former government officials, military officers and members of Congress worked as lobbyists, board members or executives for the top 20 defense companies in 2022, according to a new report released by Sen. Elizabeth Warren (D-Mass.) last Wednesday. Warrens staff utilized OpenSecrets revolving door database as well as corporate websites, lobbying disclosures and U.S. Senate confirmation lists to identify these individuals.

This practice is widespread in the defense industry, giving, at minimum, the appearance of corruption and favoritism, and potentially increasing the chance that DoD spending results in ineffective weapons and programs, bad deals, and waste of taxpayer dollars, the report says.

From 2011 through 2022, more than three-quarters of defense sector lobbyists previously worked in the federal government. These lobbyists leveraged their relationships and expertise on a range of issues, including the annual defense spending bill, an OpenSecrets analysis of federal lobbying disclosures found.

President Joe Bidens 2024 budget proposal requested a record $886 billion for defense spending. Over one-third of the defense budget went to the top 100 Department of Defense contractors in 2021, the most recent year for which the U.S. government has published contracting data.

Big Tech lobbying on AI regulation as industry races to harness ChatGPT popularity Original Journalism from OpenSecrets News

As the technology industry races to create tools harnessing generative artificial intelligence, the technology that powers AI chatbots like ChatGPT, Big Tech companies also rushed to K Street to weigh in on potential regulation of the novel technologies.

In the first three months of 2023, 123 companies, universities and trade associations lobbied the federal government on issues relating to artificial intelligence, an OpenSecrets analysis of federal lobbying disclosures found. They collectively spent roughly $94 million lobbying on AI and other issues from January through March 2023, though it is not possible to determine how much went to lobby issues specifically related to AI.

The number of entities lobbying on issues related to AI boomed in recent years, from single digits a decade ago to 30 in 2017 to 158 last year, an OpenSecrets analysis found.

Big Tech companies Amazon, Microsoft, Oracle, Googles parent company Alphabet Inc., IBM and Meta were among those that reported lobbying on AI issues. Silicon Valley giants Alphabet, Meta and Microsoft laid off thousands of employees in recent months to, in part, focus on their in-house AI projects, though teams focused on ethical AI development were among those laid off.

Microsoft announced earlier this year that they were planning to invest $10 billion into ChatGPTs creator, OpenAI, in an effort to integrate OpenAIs technology int...

Russia thwarts 'terrorist' drone attack on Kremlin, Medvedev says Moscow has no choice but to 'eliminate' Zelensky Signs of the Times

The attack against the Kremlin has been regarded by Moscow as a terrorist act and an attempt on the life of Vladimir Putin. In the early hours of May 3, two Ukrainian UAVs approached the Kremlin - an iconic landmark in the city of Moscow that serves as the official residence of the Russian president. The approaching drones were spotted by Russian security personnel on-site who immediately moved to intercept and neutralize the threat through the use of electronic warfare equipment. As a result, both UAVs were downed, their debris scattering on the Kremlin's premises. The Kremlin press service stated that no injuries or "material damage" were caused by this attack.

Theyre So Corrupt, Its Thrilling. Lenny Bruce Dissident Voice

In Pisces Moon: The Dark Arts of Empire, Douglas Valentine descends into some of the most sinister aspects of US foreign policy. These include drug running, illegal arms sales, bribery, human and artifact trafficking, far right coups, assassinations, agitprop and disinformation, as well as fiefdoms set up by former CIA and their assets that are rife with slavery, pedophilia and sadistic sex. Pisces Moon creates a mixture of the personal and historical, an intimate Heart of Darkness, that in moments captures the poisonous fog that inhabits Coppolas Apocalypse Now, a film that Valentine himself castigates in his book. As for the books title, I attribute it to happenstance, being an agnostic when it comes to all things metaphysical.

Pisces Moon is couched as a memoir of Valentines journey to Southeast Asia in the early 1990s. His book, The Phoenix Program, the best book on the subject Ive ever read, had caught the eye of The British Broadcasting Corporation (BBC). Valentine was hiredas a consultant to a documentary series the BBC was making about the CIAs activities in South Vietnam. However, other consultants on the project more sympathetic to the crimes of the CIA such as John Ranelagh, objected to Valentines presence and once he arrived in Southeast Asia, he received little support from the feckless BBC; this even though he muled ten grand to the BBCs rep in Vietnam.

Largely left high and dry by the BBC, Valentine links up with locals and ex-pats alike and recalls his adventures including being briefly detained in Vietnam. The memoir/travel framework serves as a contemporary grounding for Valentines impeccable research. And his major reason for traveling to Indo-China, to interview three retired CIA station chiefs living in Thailand, Anthony Poshepny, John Shirley and William Young, do produce some revelatory results.

Valentine is a consummate researcher and interviewer with an amazing ability to get criminals to speak openly about their crimes. In fact, as I have observed over the years confirmed by Valentine these miscreants even, or especially, at the highest levels of the clandestine world like to brag about their...

American patriots, leftist mass shootings and the possible coming war Signs of the Times

Should the actions of a handful of criminals be used as an excuse to take away the rights of millions of innocent people? Any reasonable person would say no, but when it comes to gun related violence the standards of logic tend to go out the window. There are many government officials that view each major shooting as a gift - They believe that tragedies are political capital, a tool for leveraging away our freedoms. In many cases of mass murder in the US the first inclination of the corporate media and the political left has been to rush to conclusions. They immediately blame conservative political motivations for the attacks, while also blaming our 2nd Amendment rights in general. If the shooter turns out to be anti-conservative or doesn't fit the racial mold, they simply stop reporting the story. The agenda is obvious - To paint conservative men as a dangerous monolith plaguing the rest of society. Why do they pursue this particular narrative, though? Perhaps because,...

The US grip on the Middle East slips, and peace breaks out Signs of the Times

Washington's poor decision-making is starting to catch up with it, as nations choose to pursue peace without American interference As Washington's influence in the Middle East declines, countries throughout the region are taking to compromise, rapprochement, and peace talks, inflicting a blow to the US narrative that seeks to depict its role as a stabilizer and democracy advocate. Under the leadership of US President Joe Biden, there has been a notable downgrade in the status of the West amongst various long-time Middle East allies. As the US-led West exerts the majority of its efforts on the war in Ukraine, its poor decision making in the Middle East has finally begun to catch up to it. The first major blow to Washington's influence came in the form of a Chinese-mediated agreement to end a decades-long feud between major regional actors Iran and Saudi Arabia, one which led to the severing of ties in 2016. This has a number of implications for US power in the region.

What Are the Risks Involved in Stock Market Investing? The Event Chronicle

The stock market, also known as the equity market or share market, is a marketplace where equities of publicly listed firms are purchased and sold. It is an essential component of every economy and serves as a gauge of a countrys economic health. The stock market allows investors to purchase a piece of a companys ownership in exchange for a share of the companys income in the form of dividends and capital gains.

The stock market is often made up of exchanges where buyers and sellers may trade stock shares. The New York Stock Exchange (NYSE), NASDAQ, London Stock Exchange (LSE), and Tokyo Stock Exchange (TSE) are among the worlds major stock exchanges. To learn insights about stocks and investments, enroll in our Investment Banking Certification.

A brokerage company, which serves as a middleman between buyers and sellers, allows investors to acquire securities. Through their brokerage accounts, investors can place buy or sell orders, and the brokerage company will carry out the transactions on their behalf. Additionally, online brokerage houses provide investors with a more practical and affordable means of trading in stocks.

The stock market is vulnerable to swings because of a variety of things, including the state of the economy, world politics, and news about specific companies. To analyze stocks and make wise investing decisions, investors employ a variety of techniques and methods. To ascertain a companys inherent worth, fundamental analysis entails examining its financial statements, management group, and competitive environment. To find trading opportunities, the technical analysis examines charts and other technical indicators.

To attain their financial objectives, investors might employ a variety of investment strategies, including value investing, growth investing, and dividend investing. In order to diversify their portfolios, investors can also invest in individual stocks, exchange-traded funds (ETFs), mutual funds, and other investment vehicles.

The stock market is a device for transferring money from the impatient to the patient. Warren Buffet.

This quotation emphasizes the need of having a long-term outlook while investing in the stock market. Buffet believes that those who are impatient and focused on short-term profits are more prone to make rash judgments and lose money. Those who are patient and have a long-term view, on the other hand, are more likely to see their assets rise over time.

In the near term, the stock market can be volatile, with values shifting daily due to a number of economic and geopolitical variables. However, the stock market has historically produced positive returns over the...

Vulture US corporations cashing in on Ukraine's oil and gas Signs of the Times

As Ukraine sells off public assets in a privatization spree, US fossil fuel corporations like ExxonMobil, Chevron, and Halliburton are in talks to run its oil and gas industry, and the IMF is imposing the Washington Consensus. As the war in Ukraine drags on, the government is selling off state assets in a big privatization spree. US fossil fuel corporations like ExxonMobil, Chevron, and Halliburton are participating in discussions to take over the Eastern European nation's oil and gas industry, as Kiev pushes to increase production to replace Russian energy exports. This comes soon after Ukraine's Western-backed leader, Volodymyr Zelensky, sent a friendly video message to a US corporate lobby group, thanking companies like BlackRock, JP Morgan, Goldman Sachs, and Starlink, and promising "big business" for others. In September, Zelensky also symbolically opened the New York Stock Exchange, announcing that his country is "open for business", offering more than $400 billion in...

'Half of Europe' wants better ties with Russia - Polish deputy PM Signs of the Times

Polish Deputy Prime Minister Piotr Glinski has lamented the fact that there is still a "threat" that relations between Russia and EU countries could return to the way they were before the current rift. He blasted opposition parties in Poland, as well as "half of Europe," for harboring hopes of improving ties with Moscow. Speaking to the Kurier Lubelski news outlet, Glinski was asked if he believed that Warsaw was "in danger" of returning to "naive" politics when, for example, Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov was invited to meet with Polish ambassadors in Warsaw in 2010 in an effort to improve bilateral relations. "Unfortunately, the threat of a return to these relationships still exists," he replied. Glinski claimed that the government's "political rivals" as well as their voters are "hostage to interest groups that only think about ending the war in Ukraine as soon as possible and continue to be a client of Russia and do business with it," adding that "half of Europe is like...

EU becoming 'straitjacket' for Sweden - party leader Signs of the Times

Sweden has significant reasons to reconsider its EU membership as the bloc is increasing its influence on member states' internal affairs, particularly immigration policies, the leader of the Sweden Democrats, Jimmie Akesson, has argued. Writing for the Aftonbladet daily in an op-ed published on Tuesday, Akesson claimed that "EU membership is starting to look dangerously like a straitjacket" for Sweden as the balance of power shifts from Stockholm to Brussels. Akesson has been in charge of the Euroskeptic, right-wing Sweden Democrats (SD) since 2005. The party is currently the second largest in the country. The MP said that the EU should focus on trade between member states, although he claimed it would be naive to hope for any serious changes in this area in the near future.

When you give away all your stuff: UK military 'woefully underprepared for war' says retired general Signs of the Times

Britain only has 22 hours' worth of ammunition, a former senior army officer has told Sky News Britain's military would run out of ammunition within 22 hours of combat in the event of a war, retired General Rupert Jones has told Sky News. Previous estimates have put the number even lower. Speaking to Jones on Wednesday morning, Sky News presenter Kay Burley said that she had been told "our entire supply of ammunition here in the UK could be used up in something like 22 hours, if there was a war like we've seen in Ukraine." "Yes," Jones confirmed. "The UK and many of our allies are woefully underprepared, and we need to commit far more money into these sorts of ammunition stocks." "It also tells you the huge amounts of ammunition that are being expended in Ukraine," he added, citing figures from a British think tank that put Kiev's consumption of artillery shells at between 4,000 and 7,000 per day, and Russia's at 20,000.

Yellen warns US facing default by June 1 without debt ceiling hike Signs of the Times

The Treasury Department warned lawmakers on Monday that without congressional action to lift or suspend the debt limit, the country will be unable to pay its obligations as soon as June 1. In a letter to House Speaker Kevin McCarthy (R-CA), Treasury Secretary Janet Yellen urged Congress to resolve the current brinkmanship over the federal borrowing limit, warning that waiting until the last minute could have adverse impacts on the economy and the nation's credit rating. Yellen had previously warned Congress in January that the United States had reached its $31.4 trillion debt limit and that the Treasury Department would take "extraordinary measures" to buy time for Congress to act. Since then, the agency has collected the tax filings of millions of Americans, allowing the Treasury to better predict when it will be unable to pay its bills.

Although Scarred by Violence, We Must Not Be Scared into Silence Dissident Voice

The world has been haunted by human violence since time immemorial. There are untold millions (billions?) of people all over the world who have been scarred by it in all its forms.  There are two basic responses: one is to try to return that violence with violence and defeat ones enemy; the other is, in Martin Luther King, Jr.s words, to not seek to defeat or humiliate the opponent, but to win his friendship and understanding through a non-violent response.  Politicians usually embrace the former, while those who are called dreamers advocate the latter.

Between these two, there are various mixed responses, with sane political leaders calling for mutual respect between countries and an end to aggressive provocations leading to warfare, such has occurred with the United States provoking the war in Ukraine.

We have entered the time when the destruction of all life on earth through nuclear war is imminent unless a radical transformation occurs.  If the word imminent sounds extreme, it is worth considering that there will be no announcement.  The time to speak up is now.  It is always now.

Great literature speaks to the issue of violence at the deepest levels.

Homers Odyssey is the classic case of violent revenge.  At the end of the story, Odysseus, who was scarred in youth by a wild boar, finally returns home from the Trojan War after ten years of wandering.  Doubly scarred now by the horrors of war with its horrendous slaughters (see The Iliad), he arrives at his home disguised in a beggars rags.  His nursemaid from childhood recognizes him from the scar on his thigh.  In his house he finds scores of suitors who are hitting on his wife Penelope.  He is enraged and  steps onto the threshold, rips off his rags, and systematically massacres every last one of them.  Flesh and gore swim in the blood-drenched room, while in the courtyard twelve unfaithful serving maids hang from their necks.  This is the quintessential western story of revenge where the wounded hero kills the bad guys and the violent beat goes on and on.

It appeals to our lesser angels, for while Odysseuss rage is understandable, its consequences leave a toxic legacy.

But there is another response that draws on another tradition that is symbolized by Jesus on the cross, executed by the Roman state as a subversive criminal. He didnt die on a private cross, for his crime was public.  Martin Luther King, Jr. and Mahatma Gandhi are famous exemplars of non-violent resistance in modern times, as they too were executed by the state.  Non-violence seems, on the surface at least, to be less effective than violence and contrary to much of human history.

If it is, however, we are doomed.  For we have nuclear weapons now, not bows and arrows and spears. We have nuclear weapons hitched to computers.  Digital weapons of multiple sorts and mad leaders intent on pushing us to the brink of extinction.

The Truth About Crazy High Rents in the US MintPress News

Renting an apartment or a house in the United States has become increasingly expensive over the past decade. As it stands, 64% of Americans are living paycheck to paycheck, thanks to the high cost of living. The median rent in the United States has increased by 17.11% since March 2021, which equates to an annual growth rate equivalent to a $283 rise in monthly rent.

One would expect that the price of rent would only go up if people had more money to spend. However, this is not the case. One of the reasons for high rents is that regardless of how much a landlord charges, there is always someone desperate and willing to pay. Mega landlords, who have invested in a quarter of all homes sold last year, are driving up rents.

Another factor contributing to the high rents is the existence of vacant houses across the country. The United States has approximately 16 million vacant homes, most of which are owned by rich investors. These investors do not care if their properties sit empty for years, which puts an enormous strain on the housing market. With so many people struggling with homelessness, it is absurd that so many houses remain vacant. If each homeless person were given one of these vacant houses, every person in America could have roughly 10 to 20 houses.

Blackstone Group, the largest property landlord in the United States, is buying up affordable housing and increasing the rent prices. The companys financial troubles have not slowed its acquisitions, and it is making it hard for low-income earners to secure affordable housing. This practice is not unique to San Diego, as Blackstone is doing this across the country.

It is time for policymakers to find solutions to the housing crisis, whether it is by creating more affordable housing or by incentivizing investors to rent out their properties to people in need.

Learn more about Americas housing crisis and the shady actors behind it in this latest episode of the Most Censored News with Lee Camp.

Lee Camp is an American stand-up comedian, writer, actor and activist. Camp is the host of Behind The Headlines new series: The Most Censored News With Lee Camp. He is a former comedy writer for the Onion and the Huffington Post and has been a touring stand-up comic for 20 years.

Press Release: OpenSecrets welcomes Nekole Nick Brandis to its board of directors Original Journalism from OpenSecrets News

WASHINGTON, May 3, 2023 OpenSecrets is proud to welcome Nekole Nick Brandis as the newest addition to our board of directors. Ms. Brandis was approved by a unanimous vote to join the board.

Today, Ms. Brandis is Lead IT Project Manager at S&P Global Market Intelligence based in Richmond, where she lives with her family. She is a graduate of Virginia Commonwealth University in Electrical Engineering.

OpenSecrets is a highly regarded nonpartisan organization producing unique data and analysis in service of a stronger and more representative democracy, said Ms. Brandis. I am excited to put my professional expertise and prior board experience to work on behalf of the OpenSecrets mission.

Nick Brandis, OpenSecrets Board of Directors

Bringing with her several years of experience serving on various boards to effect change resulting in justice and equity, Ms. Brandis is an activist, engineer and mobilizer with a niche for developing relationships, effective negotiations, project management, evaluating corporate performance and determining key areas to apply program improvements.

Nicks expertise and dedication to the principles of accountability in government make her an exceptional addition to our board of directors, OpenSecrets Executive Director Sheila Krumholz said.

Ms. Brandis passion for justice began early as she realized the intersectionality of race and social injustice in her community, which resulted in her leading a school-wide walkout. Later, her career as an electrical engineer included a 3-month internship in South Africa that highlighted the experiences of social justice warriors during the apartheid era.

At Pilgrims Passage, Ms. Brandis served as Chief Operations Officer and designed a program to address recidivism in conjunction with the Department of Corrections. The program provided housing, meals, counseling, life skills, and more. Nick also served as a chair for the Lift Every Voice Coalition for Justice, a campaign to unify minority voices and promote efforts to change conditions that lead to injustice, inequality, inequity, and racism.

We are so fortunate to welcome someone like Nick, whose executive experience and record of public service will boost our nonpartisan work to strengthen our democracy, said board chair Bert Brandenburg.
