Enslavement of African migrants 'big business' in Libya thanks to EU funding - UN Signs of the Times

An investigation by the United Nations has concluded that money provided by the European Union to state entities in Libya has facilitated an array of crimes against humanity ranging from forced labor and sexual slavery to torture. Through its financial support of the Libyan Coast Guard and the Libyan Directorate for Combating Illegal Migration (DCIM), the European Union has aided and abetted crimes against humanity, according to a recent UN report. On March 27, 2023, the United Nations released the findings of a three-year investigation, confirming that "arbitrary detention, murder, rape, enslavement, sexual slavery, extrajudicial killing and enforced disappearance" has become a "widespread practice" in the once-prosperous nation of Libya, which was plunged into civil war by NATO's regime change war over a decade ago. While crimes against humanity were found to be widespread throughout the country, the report homed in on the plight of migrants and blamed the European Union for...

Hacking Humanity: Transhumanism Signs of the Times

[This piece is an excerpt from The Great Reset and the Struggle for Liberty.] The notion that the world can be replicated and replaced by a simulated reality says a great deal about the beliefs of those who promote the metaverse [treated in the previous chapter]. The conception is materialist and mechanistic at base, the hallmarks of social engineering. It represents the world as consisting of nothing but manipulable matter, or rather, of digital media mimicking matter. It suggests that human beings can be reduced to a material substratum and can be induced to accept a technological reproduction in lieu of reality. Further, it assumes that those who inhabit this simulacrum can be controlled by technocratic means. Such a materialist, mechanistic, techno-determinist, and reductionist worldview is consistent with the transhumanist belief that humans themselves will soon be succeeded by a new transhuman species, or humanity-plus (h+) perhaps a genetically and AI-enhanced cyborg that...

Be a Capitol Hill Citizen on Your Congress Dissident Voice

Spring, the season of renewal, is here. The ants are diligently building their little symmetrical ant hills. The robins are in their nests occupied with posterity. And the anointed members of Congress, after a long recess, aka vacation, return to work on April 17. The next day, April 18, is the deadline for filing taxes.

Congress collectively is less than the sum of its parts. That is because there are only a few dozen sterling Representatives and Senators worthy of their voter constituents back home. These lawmakers, however, are unable to accomplish as much as they would like and as much as our country needs. However, they could accomplish much of whats needed if they were better organized and focused.

Corporatism grips the corporate Republican Party and most Democrats into indentured obeisance to the fossil fuel industry. The CEOs of the purveyors of greenhouse gases are hostile or indifferent to how the burning of coal, gas and oil are detonating the planets climate patterns. Yet, Congress fails to abate large taxes and other subsidies for these climate catastrophe corporations.

It is time to visualize the Congress as a giant inanimate boulder blocking the highway of life, straddled on both sides by steep cliffs of death. Unfortunately, despite its awesome power under the Constitution to do good, Congress wallows in corruption. Too many members of Congress are driven to ignorant or nefarious actions by the venom of campaign cash. Congress should be viewed as a criminogenic enterprise.

One learned Congressman called Congress a criminal enterprise, which is technically inaccurate, for there is no criminal statute covering Congress. (The solons have insulated their privileged position.) However, if you adopt the early common law of criminality before statutory laws proliferated, Congressional actions and inactions fit the criteria of premeditated endangerment, obstruction of justice and repeated knowing and willful behavior costing lives and livelihoods without due process of law.

One major dimension of criminogencity is how Congress, year after year enables, funds and covers up the vast depredations of Empire undeclared wars and frequent violent incursions (anywhere decreed by the runaway Presidency), overthrows of governments and sabotages desperate justice movements against tyrants backed by the U.S. Congress has deliberately shut down its critical oversight of public hearings (e.g., on the Iraq, Afghanistan, Syrian and Libyan wars), yet funds them on the Senate and House floors without any debate. (The 2011 Libyan overthrow with continuing chaos and violence to this day was funded by an unauthorized White House dictate to the Pentagon.)

Abandoning Constitutional duties arising out of its exclusive war-making and appropriating authorities, the Congress has been the enabler of regular actions abroad that are unconstitutional, and violative of both federal statutes and international law,...

Monsantos Evil Is Not Gone, Its Just In Disguise MintPress News

Monsanto has been voted the evilest corporation in the world several times over.

Yet, we dont hear anything about them now. What happened? Did they complete the evil? Did they retire after all their evil wrapped up? No, not so much.

Monsanto was one of the most hated companies in the Americas. There were protests just a few years ago, attracting hundreds of thousands into the streets which is not easy to do.

The most shocking thing was that at Monsantos lowest point, even the mainstream media started revealing the truth. Heres from Reuters ten years ago:

Monsantos genetically modified seeds and the resulting crops have damaged public and environmental health and destroyed traditional farming communities all over the world. Its seeds have been linked to cancer and birth defects, and its array of chemicals and GMOs promotes pesticide resistance, spreads gene contaminants, pollutes soil and groundwater, and creates a global monoculture monopoly that presents a significant threat to the global food supply.

Besides all the cancer and death Monsanto has caused with their Roundup herbicide, they have also been blamed for causing hundreds of thousands of farmer suicides in India.

Yes, 300,000 Indian farmers killed themselves over the past few decades, and whether Monsanto is the main culprit or it was in a tag-team mutually murderous relationship with extreme drought, its tough to say. But it doesnt really matter. The point is Monsanto was a factor in the suicides of one Indian farmer every 47 minutes for decades.

So, Monsanto was super evil. But what happened?

Well, they were sold to Bayer Pharmaceuticals in 2018 for $63 billion. Bayer then quickly dropped the name, which had become synonymous with cancer and death.

Now that its been sold to Bayer, few talk about Monsanto anymore, but their crimes havent gone away. They dont stop just because you drop the dirty name.

Just last month, we learned that Monsanto and Bayer led attacks on scientists and journalists.

Why was Monsanto attacking them? Because those scientists and journalists were studying and reporting on how glyphosate, Roundup herbicide, causes cancer.

Stacy Malkan reported for U.S. Right To Know:

In the lead up to [the International Agency for Research on Cancers] 2015 report classifying glyphosa...

Are you an avid player of the survival game Unturned? One of the most challenging aspects of the game is finding good loot to help you survive against zombies and other players. While players can certainly find loot through normal gameplay, using cheats can make the process a lot easier.

In this blog post, well go over the best loot locations in Unturned and how to find them using cheats. By the end of this article, youll be well-equipped to find the best loot in Unturned and improve your chances of surviving against the odds. So, lets get started!

Using Cheats to Find Loot in Unturned

Source: wikihow-fun.com

Unturned offers players a wide range of cheats that can be enabled in single-player mode to make gameplay easier. Cheats can provide players with items, skills, and abilities that would otherwise take hours of gameplay to achieve. Examples of cheats in Unturned include god mode, infinite ammo, teleportation, and the ability to spawn in items.

How to Enable Cheats in Single-Player Mode?

To enable unturned cheats in single-player mode, players must first navigate to the games directory folder on their computer. This can usually be found in the games properties under the Local Files tab. Once in the folder, players must open the Commands.dat file and add the command cheats on to the file. This enables cheats in single-player mode.

How to Use Cheats to Find Loot Locations?

Once cheats are enabled, players can use various commands to find loot locations. For example, the command find <item name> will show the player all locations where that item can be found. Another command, nightvision on, can be used to make it easier to see in dark areas where loot might be hidde...

The Leaking Republic: The Pentagons Take on Information Security Dissident Voice

For years, US intelligence officials could hold their allies, notably the British, in contempt for leaking like sinking vessels and harbouring such espionage luminaries as the Cambridge Five. The whirligig of time has returned the favour with the latest leak from the US Department of Defense. They pose a question pregnant with relevance: Do Washingtons allies have any reason to trust their own secure channels of sharing defence information? The answer: probably not.

The spray of Pentagon documents began appearing on such platforms as Twitter, 4chan, Telegram and a Discord server that hosts video games. (How odd, go the folks at Bellingcat.) The very nature of this distribution has tickled pundits into assuming a sense of play at work here. A few have even asserted that the alleged perpetrator, Jack Texeira of the Massachusetts Air National Guard, was making a playful effort to make friends.

Defense Secretary Lloyd Austin was informed of the leak during his April 6 morning briefing after five images surfaced on the platforms. The following day, Austin commenced daily crisis meetings to discuss the matter.

These briefings seem to have come some weeks late. Certain documents began circulating on the Discord messaging platform in March, featuring photographs of folded up printouts, only to then be smoothed out again.

The lions share of the documents came in the form of slides developed by the Pentagons Joint Staff, largely acting as briefing notes for senior leaders regarding Ukraine. A pessimistic picture emerges about the prospects of success for any Ukrainian spring counteroffensive. Shortages in ammunition were also becoming critical, and the capacity of Western states to replenish them had yet to be developed. The delivery of existing equipment to the frontline had also been slow, as was training Ukrainian forces. Soviet-era munitions and artillery continued to be the mainstay of Kyivs military effort.

But then the picture became more cluttered and clotted. Messily, there were suggestions that the United States had observed that old adage that friends need to be spied upon to be good. South Korea proved a case in point.

One leaked document revealed the state of mind of South Korean President Yoon Suk-yeols senior advisors on whether to yield to US pressure to send ammunition to Ukraine, or resist arming the state altogether. In 2022, Seoul had agreed to replenish US artillery stocks on the proviso that they keep the shells for thems...

The Rise of the Global South: Can BRICS Triumph Over the IMF and World Bank? MintPress News

Who would have expected that the BRICS nations could rise as the potential rival of the G7 countries, the World Bank and the IMF combined? But that once seemingly distant possibility now has real prospects which could change the political equilibrium of world politics.

BRICS is an acronym for Brazil, Russia, India, China and South Africa. It was supposedly coined by the Chief Economist of Goldman Sachs in 2001 as a reference to the worlds emerging economies. It was then known as BRIC, with the S added later when South Africa formally joined the group in 2010.

BRICs first official summit took place in 2009. Then, the discussion seemed largely abstract. However, not until 2014 did BRICS begin taking serious steps towards greater integration, when the nascent alliance, now including South Africa, launched the New Development Bank with seed money of $50 billion. This decision meant that the group was now ready to take its first practical steps in challenging the dominance of the West over international monetary institutions, namely the World Bank and the IMF.

The geopolitical global conflict, thus shifts, resulting from the Russia-Ukraine war, however, proved to be the driving force behind the massive expansion underway at BRICS, especially as financially powerful countries began showing interest in the initiative. They include Argentina, UAE, Mexico, Algeria and, particularly, Saudi Arabia.

Recent financial reports suggest that BRICS is already the worlds largest gross domestic product (GDP) bloc in the world, as it currently contributes 31.5% to the global GDP, ahead of the G7, which contributes 30.7%.

One of the greatest opportunities and challenges facing BRICS now is its ability to expand its membership base while maintaining its current growth. The issue of helping new members maintain economic and political independence is particularly vital.

The IMF and World Bank are notorious for stipulating their monetary support of countries, especially in the Global South, on political conditions. This position is often...

Imagining A World Beyond Capitalism, with David Cobb MintPress News

Former Green Party presidential candidate David Cobb is the advancement manager for the Wiyot Tribe Community Land Trust, the co-coordinator of the U.S. Solidarity Economy Network, and one of the promoters of the upcoming Decolonizing Economics Summit.

His lifelong commitment to social and environmental justice has made him a respected figure within the progressive movement. His legacy continues to inspire a new generation of activists and political leaders. He joins Lee on the stream today.
Lee Camp and Cobbs friendship goes back to Occupy Wall Street. I still talk about you as the Occupy stand-up comedian, says Cobb.

In this hour-long interview, they discuss wide-ranging topics, including radical politics, community organizing, sustainable development, climate change, racial justice, the protests in France, indigenous sovereignty, and building power to confront the ruling class.

Cobb grew up in poverty in Texas with his parents and five siblings, living in a small house without indoor plumbing. Despite the challenges, he excelled in school, earning a scholarship to attend the University of Houston, where he earned a psychology degree in 1986.

My hatred of capitalism is lived experience. Its earned, right? says Cobb about his reasons for becoming an organizer. He continues, I know what its like to carry a five-gallon bucket of my familys excrement at the end of the day as a chore, as an eight-year-old boy, right? Now, I had to learn a hatred of white supremacy and hetero-patriarchy and settler-colonialism.

After college, Cobb moved to Washington, D.C., to work as a national organizer for the Green Party. He became involved in grassroots activism, working on environmental protection, racial justice, and workers rights. In 1993, he graduated from the University of Houston Law Center and began practicing as a criminal defense attorney.

Cobb remains active in the Green Party almost two decades after his 2004 presidential campaign for the marginalized left-wing party. He campaigned on ending the war in Iraq, protecting civil liberties, and promoting sustainable energy policies.

He says, Im proud. I am still a registered Green. but I really am in a different spot now, Lee, because what I really want to underscore is I still believe that there is a role for electoral politics, but I am not an electoral fetishist, right?

Following his presidential bid, Cobb continued to work as an attorney and activist. He has been involved in numer...

Israel Protests and UK Spying on Palestinian Refugees, with Asa Winstanley MintPress News

Israel is currently engulfed in strife, as hundreds of thousands have come out to protest against Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahus controversial power grab. Netanyahu is attempting to overhaul the judicial system and has dismissed defense minister Yoav Gallant, a move that ignited a storm of indignation.

But as returning Watchdog guest Asa Winstanley notes, observers should not mistake this for a liberatory movement. The protests are not for democracy as they claim. Theyre for preserving the Jewish citizens of Israels own privileges within the settler colonial entity. Thats what theyre for, Winstanley told Lowkey today, adding:

Theyre not advocating for an equal state, even of all its citizens. Even of all the Palestinian citizens of Israel who live within Palestine, not even advocating for equality for them, let alone the equality of the majority of the population between the river and the seatheyre not seeking equality.

Asa Winstanley is an investigative journalist who has been writing about Palestine and the Israel lobby since 2005. He is also the author of the new book Weaponising Anti-Semitism: How the Israel Lobby Took Down Jeremy Corbyn. It focuses on the Corbyn era and how an effective smear campaign against him destroyed the movement that brought him to power.

Nevertheless, the scale of the protests and the fact that they have so much support from among the establishment makes this something worth watching, argued Lowkey, who notes that Mossad chief David Barnea has broken protocol and allowed his agents to join the movement and publicly protest.

For many, Netanyahus attempts to bend the judicial system to his will signal a dangerous descent into authoritarianism. Winstanley, however, is not convinced, telling Lowkey:

Some are trying to kind of posit whats happening as a slip into fascism. But the fascism was always there. You dont get much more fascistic than the c...

The Orwellian RESTRICT Act is a chilling echo of '1984' and an erosion of American freedom Signs of the Times

Far beyond cracking down on TikTok, the bill envisages frightening powers to control citizens' access to 'unwanted' information. In an eerie semblance to George Orwell's '1984', the Restricting the Emergence of Security Threats that Risk Information and Communications Technology Act, or RESTRICT Act, looms as a dark cloud over American liberties. Branded as a mere "TikTok ban," this act possesses a sweeping reach that would empower the federal government to designate any nation a "foreign adversary," ban online services and products even indirectly controlled by an entity within their jurisdiction, and severely punish Americans who engage in almost any transaction with them.

The Electron Is So Round That Its Ruling Out Potential New Particles Terra Forming Terra

This is actually important.  The surface can be represented by around maybe a thousand pixels or so.  A rigorous number is actually possible but troublesome to locate.  That is good enough to appear smooth and may well turn out to be sticky enough for real smoothness.

No actual surprises at all.  It all conforms nicely to my Cloud Cosmology.

Note every axis produces curvature peaks close in and also close to each other.  This makes for potential photonic stickiness and a real surface orthoganal to those axis.  Ratjer good actually as this helps pin down the nature of the electron pair which then forms up to produce neutral neutron pairs.

The Electron Is So Round That Its Ruling Out Potential New Particles

If the electrons charge wasnt perfectly round, it could reveal the existence of hidden particles. A new measurement approaches perfection.

If an electron were the size of Earth, the experiment could detect a bump the size of a sugar molecule.

9 Researched Benefits of Intermittent Fasting Terra Forming Terra

When i first posted on what i called the Arclein Diet. Intermittent fasting was not a thing.  That changed quick enough once i spelled out the compelling science in terms of managing calorie intake.  As stated then, we eat nine days worth of food every seven days.  Thios makes a compeling case for losing two of those days.

On top of that none of us are really working physically and no longer really need a heavy dose of starch.  So quality proteins and vegetables is great thinking.

Cases And Cases Of Bud Light Stacking Up In Bars & Stores Across America Terra Forming Terra

Somewhere, someone must actually believe that Woke culture has a voting majority somehow that supports them.

Those folks also do not switch their beers easily This literally took their most loyal customer base and grossly insulted them.  Worse for the future, no one was ever asked and all this was simply foisted on the public.

Blowback is a bitch and driving bud largely from the whole market is presently a real risk for the corporation.  In fact, the brewing company owes the public an abject apology and weeks of groveling to undo the damage.  Of course the CEO and whoever thought this up get tossed.  They may still lose serious market share because local beers will now win market share and keep it.

Natural treatment could make you almost invisible to mosquito bites Terra Forming Terra

This is both promising and wonderfully safe. Celluose in pure form is a natural blocker and easily discourages a mosquito and that may well be what we need to be doing.

So yes, being able to spray this on your hands and the back of your neck would be welcome.  I swear that the smeely stuff we use actually attracts them, though that cannot be true.

The cellulose nano crystals could be applied as a transparent spray or gel to act as a "chemical camouflage"

Mosquitoes are responsible for around 350 million human illnesses every year, with the number sure to increase as climate change bolsters the disease-carrying insect's numbers. A recent study even showed how another human impact, light pollution, may be responsible for extending the mosquito blood-drawing season.

New research into bite-protection has taken a readily available natural molecule, cellulose, and manipulated it to produce a product that saw an 80% reduction in mosquito feeds on human skin.

The ancient origins of the village date back to the Tumulus period, also known as Kofun Jidai (c. 3rd century-538 C.E.). Kofun Jidai period (AD 250-552) is characterized by a specific type of earth mound in the shape of a key and surrounded by moats. However, the area is known for its many Buddhist temples, shrines, and statues. Stone monuments that do not match Buddhist-style sculptures or construction on the hills surrounding Asuka attracts curious visitors and explorers. Masuda-no-iwafune (literally "Rock Ship of Masuda", in Japanese), or Rock Ship of Masuda, is the name of the largest of these monuments. Its function is still unknown and it is located atop a hill close to Okadera Station. The largest of the mysterious rock mounds, the rock ship is made of solid granite and measures 11 meters (36 feet) by 8 meters (26 feet), 4.5 meters high (15 feet), and...

Does the world really need another chair? Fast Company

If the most sustainable buildings are the ones that already exist, then the most sustainable chairs are the ones that already exist too.

The Thonet chair. The Wassily Chair. The Eames Lounge Chair. These chairs have gone down in history as design iconsengineering masterpieces that have changed the way we make, shape, package, or ship furniture. But for every legendary chair, there have been 1,000 forgettable ones. Unabashed knockoffs. Old chairs, repackaged as new chairs. Event chairs, office chairs, lounge chairs, restaurant chairs. And . . . Too. Many. Plastic. Chairs.

Iran Uses Digital Surveillance to Freeze Bank Accounts of Women who Refuse to Wear Hijab Armstrong Economics

Brave women in Iran have been defying the hijab law despite the risk of death. The Iranian government is now installing cameras throughout the nation to see who dares to defy their orders. Those found guilty will be fined 2.5 billion rials ($60,000) and their bank accounts will be frozen. Iranian women have been protesting throughout the nation since September after a 22-year-old girl named Mahsa Amini died in police custody after she refused to wear a hijab.

Canadas PM Trudeau began the trend of freezing protestors bank accounts after he invoked the Emergencies Act during the Freedom Convoy. Trudeau even targeted people merely associated with protestors. Iran is employing the same tactics as the government plans to shutdown businesses who permit women to enter without a hijab. The government has the ability to message citizens via text as soon as they see them defying laws. This is far worse than anything Orwell imagined.

The Western left thinks they are so oppressed and our top leaders refuse to acknowledge women exist, saying they cannot be properly identified. Simone de Beauvoir popularized the term The Second Sex in her book by the same name, pleading for womens rights. The French writer said that men were the default while women were simply other. Women could not even open a bank account in America until the Equal Credit Opportunity Act of 1974. Women no longer exist in the West, according to the disturbed media and politicians, and women elsewhere face death for not adhering to laws implemented by men.

Governments want us to move to a CBDC so that they can immediately freeze our finances and track everything we do. They may not implement hijab laws in the West, but they could track whoever is behind on boosters, anyone who supported an unpopular politician, or any deemed a nuisance to the new world order.

Cathay Bank Reveals Biden Crime Familys Activities Armstrong Economics

The Biden crime familys activities are coming to light after a bank with ties to China handed over records to Republican lawmakers. Senator Ron Johnson of Wisconsin and Senator Charles Grassley of Iowa reached out to numerous banks for information without luck. We are investigating the domestic and international business dealings of President Bidens son, Hunter Biden, and other Biden associates and family members to determine whether these activities compromise U.S. national security and President Bidens ability to lead with impartiality, they stated in a joint letter. Cathay Bank was the only bank that was willing to aid in the investigation.

Cathay Bank revealed that Rob Walker, a Biden family associated, received a $3 million payment from a Chinese firm. Walker distributed these funds to the Bidens the following day. The alleged payments were made to Hunter Biden for $610,692; the presidents brother James Biden for $360,000; Hunters mistress and wife of deceased son Beau, Hallie Biden, for $25,000; last of all, $70,000 was paid to an unknown Biden. Twelve additional transactions are currently under investigation.

Le Pen Criticizes Meloni Encourages France to Leave NATO Armstrong Economics

Im not Melonis twin sister, I remain faithful to Salvini, French politician Marine Le Pen said in regard to the Italian PM. Le Pen condemned Italys Meloni for supporting NATO and the EU, and while she condemns Russias actions in Ukraine, she does not believe that the proxy war should continue. Le Pen said that European countries should remain Eurosceptic as there is clearly a larger agenda at play that does not consider individual nations.

She also said that she is convinced France should leave NATO immediately and cease all weapon exports to Ukraine. Why?

I would do everything possible for France to promote a peaceful resolution of the conflict. For one simple reason: I don't see any other valid solutions. Or Russia continues Le Pen wins the war, and it would be catastrophic because all the countries that have a territorial conflict will think they can solve it with weapons. Either Ukraine wins, and this would mean that NATO has entered the conflict, and thus the beginning of the Third World War. It doesn't seem like a happy prospect to me. Or, we will continue to supply Ukraine with weapons and then we will find ourselves facing a new Hundred Years War which, given the human losses, would be a tragedy.

This is the exact problem. No one is going to win this war and World War III is imminent as NATO continues to embed itself in the conflict. All NATO leaders are abandoning their domestic policies in favor of an international one that does not benefit their respective countries in any way. This entire proxy war the entire world is now fighting is merely a ploy to eliminate Russia and end fossil fuel production. I discuss these topics in depth in my book, The Plot to Seize Russia, which my publisher is currently working on completing. I will let everyone know once the book is available for purchase in the coming weeks.

The Coming Draft of 2024? Armstrong Economics

QUESTION: Mr. Armstrong, The information you provide is so straightforward and it is clear you do not sell advertising on your site because you do not want any outside influence. That is really admirable when I realize you do not even require people to register or send them endless emails pitching some investment.

You said the draft will be up to 50 this time and include women. Will they wait until after the 2024 election?

Respectfully;

Jeb

ANSWER: As far as the Draft is concerned, even when we look at when the Vietnam War Draft ended it was several months after President Richard M. Nixon had easily won reelection, running against Democratic Sen. George McGovern of South Dakota, an outspoken opponent of the war. That led to the old saying the Democrats always get us into wars, and it takes Republicans to end them. I am not sure that will apply this time. Ideally, we are looking at a draft at least being discussed or approved perhaps quietly on September 29th, 2024. This will be 51.6 years from the day Nixon directed the draft to end January 27th, 1973.

What American Media Wont Tell Us About the Putin/Xi Meeting, Part II BlackListed News

Last months Putin/Xi summit answered many questions concerning where the worlds most populous country stood in Russias war against Ukraine, and the closeness of two of the most prominent authoritarian leaders in the world. But what remains unknown is whether or not China will commit to providing weapons and military support to Russia, as the US is doing with Ukraine. And while we can only speculate on how the war in Ukraine will eventually end, its certain that with Chinas tacit support, Russia will feel emboldened to continue to wage war on its western neighbor indefinitely.

Abu Diabs residence in al-Jahliyeh, a village in the Chouf District, served as a refuge during the civil war. However, after he discovered under his residence an entire structure of multiple vaults interconnected through tunnels, he decided to turn his refuge into a heritage museum. The vaults he found date back to the Ottoman-era, the same vaults that were used by local officials and notables from al-Jahliyeh to meet in secret.

Ever since his discovery, Abu Diab embarked on a restoration journey that included cleaning up the debris, installing steel reinforcement and more importantly adding his artistic touch to depict the village life of al-Jahliyeh, its customs, and its characteristics.

His museum has since turned into a touristic attraction with its rock tunnels, corridors, fishponds and art work.

Cypriot Maronite Arabic or Sanna: A Dying Language Blog Baladi

An AFP report on the Cypriot Maronite Arabic language, also known as Sanna, caught my attention few years back. Unfortunately, and based on this most recent article, no substantial efforts have been done to save it. In fact, according to linguists, Cypriot Arabic will cease to exist within the next 50 years if nothing changes.

Why is this language severely endangered?

The key reason is the Turkish invasion in 1974 that divided the island and left Maronite communities stranded. Over 80% of Cyprus Maronites were uprooted and had to flee and seek shelter in the Greek-speaking south, while only few hundreds mainly in Kormakitis opted to stay behind.

The Sanna language was entirely oral until 2007 and an alphabet was only established few years ago. This being said, linguists still are not sure on how to classify Cypriot Arabic. Is it a semitic language? Is it a blend between old Lebanese Arabic/Aramaic and Cypriot Greek?

The language is unique to Kormakitis and the younger generations are majority opting to learn Greek. However and in an attempt to keep the language alive, a summer camp called Xki Fi Sanna (Speak in Our Language) is being organized since 2007 for children.

On a positive note, Turkey did allow back in 2017 Maronites to return to the villages of Asomatos, Kormakitis and Karpasia in the Turkish-occupied north of Cyprus. Nevertheless, only few returned so far while the majority remained in Nicosia, Limassol and Larnaca.

Whether the language persists or not, I think its important for the Maronite Church to preserve it in its history books and libraries and make it available for future generations to learn.

Fiscal Insanity: The Government Borrows $6 Billion a Day, and Were Stuck with the Bill Dissident Voice

The U.S. government is funding its existence with a credit card.

The governmentand that includes the current administrationis spending money it doesnt have on programs it cant afford, and we the taxpayers are the ones being forced to foot the bill for the governments fiscal insanity.

According to the number crunchers with the Committee for a Responsible Federal Budget, the government is borrowing roughly $6 billion a day.

As the Editorial Board for the Washington Post warns:

The nation has reached a hazardous moment where what it owes, as a percentage of the total size of the economy, is the highest since World War II. If nothing changes, the United States will soon be in an uncharted scenario that weakens its national security, imperils its ability to invest in the future, unfairly burdens generations to come, and will require cuts to critical programs such as Social Security and Medicare. It is not a future anyone wants.

Lets talk numbers, shall we?

The national debt (the amount the federal government has borrowed over the years and must pay back) is $31 trillion and will grow another $19 trillion by 2033. That translates to roughly $246,000 per taxpayer or $94,000 for every single person in the country.

The bulk of that debt has been ...

Advocates say major trans medical org could 'come crashing down' as judge demands treasure trove of internal documents Signs of the Times

The World Professional Association of Transgender Health (WPATH) is facing a potential bloodbath, advocates say, after an Alabama judge subpoenaed a treasure trove of documents from the organization as part of an ongoing lawsuit over the state's laws on transgender treatments. WPATH is a leading advocate of child sex changes, recently pushing to remove any minimum age requirement to undergo sex change surgeries or cross-sex hormone therapy. Amy Tishelman, the author of the "Child" chapter in the 8th edition of WPATH's guidelines, said she changed the guidelines so doctors wouldn't "be sued because they weren't following exactly what we said." U.S. hospitals such as Johns Hopkins, Stanford and Brigham and Women's use WPATH's guidelines to guide their own practice of treating transgender-identifying children. A federal judge in Alabama requested WPATH supply documents pertaining to its guidelines for child sex changes in March. Plaintiffs suing the state of Alabama over its...

Where do people live? These marvelous spike maps mark out a 3D representation of the population density on each two-kilometer-square pixel of Earth's surface. There are no outlines for countries, yet for the most part we can still see where the land meets the sea. Credit goes to Alistair Rae, formerly a professor of urban studies and planning at the University of Sheffield. He used the EU's population density data with the mapping tool Aerialod to create these glorious 3D maps. And the map shouts "India". This is the global distribution of 8 billion people. The abundance of South East Asia is undeniable, as is the emptiness of the Sahara and the vacancy of Siberia. Antarctica is an invisible continent. Australia and New Zealand are barely there. We can see how isolated Perth Australia is (where I live). Hawaii and Auckland likewise, stand apart. Most maps originally came from Alastair Rae on Twitter in 2020 and later from the Visual Capitalist team which explains: The height of...

Sources Armstrong Economics

QUESTION: Mr. Armstrong, You are renowned for your sources. You said the IMF was planning to replace the dollar with its own international digital currency. You targeted Ukraine a year before anyone heard of the country. You said Ukraine was losing the war and they had lost 100,000 troops when people said that was Russian propaganda. That turned out to be classified as Ukrainian information. These Pentagon papers confirm everything you have said a year ago. Israel was reluctant to send anything to Ukraine when everyone said Zelensky was Jewish. The list goes on and on.

My question is, why do you have information from around the world before anyone else?

HP

ANSWER: That is hard to say. I think what has emerged over the decades is that people are sharing information from all over to get a true picture of what is honestly happening. People come to me because I put out the truth. Back when they were forming the Euro, it has come out that the Bundesbank was against it. They were providing all the notes and discussions going on because they also know we have the largest institutional audience of anyone. It is never my opinion. Everyone has opinions and that means nothing. We are well read because it is not my personal opinion. I really cannot address this subject any more than that.

Long Live the Fireflies (and the Wildflowers and Mosquitoes, Too)

NASHVILLE The day we moved into this house, 28 years ago next month, a thunderstorm knocked out the power late in the day. My husband was returning the rental van. Our 3-year-old was safely tucked into his old bed in his new room. As night began to fall in the silent house, I sat down on the sofa to cry.

All I could do was wait for my body still puffy and tender, still so sensitive to the smell of any kind of food to catch up. For 10 weeks I had been growing a new life. Cyclone Ilsa sets a new wind record as it smashes into Australia's western coast - 218 kph (135 mph) Signs of the Times

Cyclone Ilsa smashed into a remote stretch of coast in Western Australia around midnight Thursday local time with wind speeds that broke previous records set more than 10 years ago in the same place. After brewing off the coast for days, Cyclone Ilsa made landfall between De Grey and Pardoo Roadhouse as a category 5 storm, according to Australian Bureau of Meteorology - the equivalent of a category 4 Atlantic hurricane. The cyclone has since weakened and is moving southeast across the state, bringing heavy rain and sustained winds of 120 kilometers per hour (74 miles per hour). Just before it hit the mainland, Ilsa sped over Bedout Island, a tiny uninhabited island, where its sustained wind speeds reached 218 kph (135 mph) over a 10-minute period.

Net zero is the goal, but will chaos in the regions delay energy transition goals? Article by Jack Archer (We) can do better

Towns and regional centres with relatively small populations, existing workforce shortages and limited local housing will need to host hundreds and sometimes thousands of new workers to support alternative energy construction projects. Governments and industry don't really understand the difficult trade-offs for local communities with alternative energy projects. Without community support, chaos may well ensue.

[This article, by Jack Archer, was originally published at ABC Australia on 16 April 2023 https://www.abc.net.au/news/2023-04-16/will-regional-chaos-delay-net-zero-goals/102217262.]

Net zero is the goal, but will chaos in the regions delay energy transition goals? Article by Jack Archer

After a decade of limited progress, the pace of change in action on energy and climate change over the past 12 months has been incredible.

Accelerated investment in transmission lines is now triggering the development of an enormous pipeline of renewable energy projects with supporting energy storage expected to follow.

Shorter time frames for closures of coal-fired power stations, requirements for our largest emitters to reduce their carbon footprint and new rules for carbon offsets have been put in place.

While the cities turned the tide in electoral terms in 2022, the rapid economic and environmental change will occur in regions.

As well as all of the power stations due to close, the vast majority of large emitters are mines and industrial facilities located in regional areas.

New renewable generation, storage and supporting transmission infrastructure is occurring almost exclusively outside of cities, much of it in inland, rural areas.

Carbon offset projects already occupy large areas of the landscape.

What will make the next few years truly revolutionary, however, is the scale of private and public investment following behind these policy changes.

Estimates vary on the total spend needed, but it is estimated that over $20b per year will need to be invested in the Australian climate transition over the coming decades.

To give a sense of scale, that i...

An Australian dollar buys increasingly less in the property market a colossal failure of policy - by Gareth Hutchens (We) can do better

Should we start indexing wages to property prices, since wages cannot keep up with property price inflation, and property is not included in the CPI? This is the subject of this logical and innovative article, republished from ABC Australia.

An Australian dollar buys increasingly less in the property market a colossal failure of policy - by Gareth Hutchens

In this period of high inflation, most have noticed our weekly income can't buy the same amount of goods as it could a few years ago.

But long before this inflation crisis, a similar phenomenon has been eating away at the value of the money we use to buy a home.

Since the early 1990s until recently, the average annual rate of inflation in consumer prices has been 2.5 per cent, so it may have felt like the value of our currency was relatively stable before the pandemic.

But the value of our dollar hasn't been maintained in every market.

When it comes to the property market, it's been obliterated.

Property price inflation has killed the Australian Dream of widespread home ownership for younger generations.

What is a dollar worth these days?

Why did policymakers let this happen?

In the post-war years, it typically cost two to three times average household earnings to buy a property.

Today, it's up to six to 10 times (or even higher).

Useless is the old advice, that our grandparents provided, that you could buy a house for three times your annual...

How China is breaking the colonial effects of Western lending Signs of the Times

In their latest Geo Economical Report economists Radhika Desai and Michael Hudson discuss Russia's move away from the 'West'. The points on Russia are certainly interesting. But they also remark on the tussle between China and 'multilateral' international lenders about debt forgiveness. This is a theme that played out in Washington DC last week during a high-level sovereign debt roundtable on the sidelines of the World Bank and International Monetary Fund Spring meetings in Washington. In their talk Radhika Desai explains the basic problem with international debt: RADHIKA DESAI: Well I think that the whole issue of debt, world debt in particular, has become a really important issue at this point, and it's become an important issue because precisely now China is such a large part of the scene. I remember going back to the earliest days of the pandemic when Third World debt had also figured as a major issue. Already at that point, the key reason why the debt issues were not going to...

George Soros's army of lieutenants get easy access to Biden White House CLG News

George Soros's army of lieutenants get easy access to Biden White House | 15 April 2023 | Billionaire oligarch [WEF dirt-bag] George Soros has a legion of loyal lieutenants who've racked up over two dozen meetings with top officials at the White House since Joe Biden took office, The Post has learned. The progressive kingmaker's unrivaled access into the Biden administration extends well beyond his 37-year-old son Alexander, who chairs the powerful, liberal grant-making network Open Society Foundations founded by his dad, and as The Post reported on Page 1 last week, has taken on the role of a de-facto White House "ambassador" by making at least 14 visits there. At least four other past or present leaders at Open Society Foundations have amassed a combined 33 private meetings and other confabs in less than two years, according to recently updated White House visitor logs. Tom Perriello, executive director of the group's United States operation, and a former Virginia congressman, scored 17 visits alone since May 2021, records show.

Backing whiz-bang tech versus things that might actually improve how we eat does us all a disservice.

When Mark Post made the first cell-cultured burger back in 2013, he hoped we might use it to talk about the reality of growing meat outside the body of an animal. In many respects, his gambit worked. The media covered it widely and investors began tracking it. Today, nearly $3 billion has been invested in more than 150 startups according to the Good Food Institute, trying to develop whats now known as cultivated meat.

Study Shows Mothers Who Earn More Than Dads Do More of the Housework Awareness Act

A recent study has found that mothers who earn more than their male counterparts tend to take on a majority of the chores. The study, conducted by the University of Connecticut and published in the journal of Sociology of Education, sheds light on an often-overlooked aspect of gender dynamics in relationships.

The study surveyed over 1,000 married or cohabitating couples with children under the age of 13. Researchers found that when mothers earned more than their partners, they tended to do more of the housework as well as the child care. This was particularly true when the couple help traditional gender beliefs when the mother believed that it was her responsibility to take care of the household and children.

The study also found that when mothers earned more, they were more likely to report feelings of guilt about not being able to do more for their families. This guilt was compounded when the mother believed that her partner was not doing enough to help around the house.

These findings challenge the notion that higher-earning women are more likely to have partners who take on a greater share of domestic work. In reality, the opposite seems to be true: when women earn more, they take on more domestic responsibilities, often due to societal expectations and gender norms.

This study highlights the need for greater recognition and support for working mothers. Women who earn more than their partners should not be expected to shoulder the majority of domestic responsibilities, and men should be encouraged to take on a more equal share of the housework and child care. This is not only fair, but it also benefits the entire family, as research has shown that fathers who are involved in their childrens lives have better outcomes in terms of academic achievement and mental health.

To address this issue, employers can offer more flexible work arrangements, such as telecommuting or flexible hours, to allow parents to better balance their work and family responsibilities. Policymakers can also implement policies that support working families, such as paid family leave and affordable child care.

In conclusion, the study shows that gender dynamics in relationships can be complex, particularly when it comes to household responsibilities. Mothers who earn more than their partners are more likely to take on a greater share of the housework and child care, even when they hold traditional gender beliefs. To support working mothers, we need to challenge societal expectations and promote more equal sharing of domestic responsibilities between partners.

5 Common Ways Men Turn Women Off In Relationships Awareness Act

Building a successful relationship requires effort, time and patience from both sides. However, sometimes men unintentionally turn women off in relationships, as do women causing strain and possibly leading to the end of a relationship, causing strain and possibly leading to the end of the relationship.

In order to save their relationship and your time, it is essential for men to be aware of the things that turn women off, so that they can make a conscious effort to avoid them.

1. Lack of Communication

Communication is key in any relationship, but to women, communication is everything. When men do not communicate openly with their partners, it can cause tension in a relationship and misunderstanding. Women want their partners to be open and honest with them, and to work through problems, rather than just dancing around them and forcing the woman in the relationship to keep it all down.

2. The Burden of Unshared Chores

Typically, the woman in the relationship carries the load of household responsibilities on herself. When the man pitches in, the act is usually labeled as help or support, when in reality it is just carrying their own weight.

This unfair division of household chores can cause severe relationship problems. For instance, a recent study published in the Archives of Sexual Behavior found women who did the larger proportion of the household labor relative to their partners felt lower sexual desire for their partners, as they felt it to be unfair.

Another study from the University of Bath found that women who earn more than men do more of the household work than their male partners.

3. Boring Physical Activity

The most common way that we see sex paints the female orgasm as secondary and the male orgasm as key. Putting more effort into female satisfaction will get you so much further.

3. Lack of Emotional Connection

Emotional connection is crucial in a relationship. Women want to feel emotionally connected to their partners, and when they dont, it can be a turn-off. Men need to show interest in their partners thoughts, feelings, and experiences to create emotional connection. When men are emotionally unavailable, it can cause their partners to feel neglected and unimportant.

4. Lack of Respect

Respect is a fundamental aspect of any relationship. Women want to be treated with respect, and when men dont show it, it can be a major turn-off. This includes being respectful of their partners time, opinions, and boundaries. When men dont respect their partners boundaries, it can lead to feelings of mistrust and discomfort in the relationship.

5. Lack of Effort

Relationships require effort from both partners. When men dont put in the effort to maintain the relationship, it can be a major turn-off for women. This includes taking the time to plan dates, showing affection, and making...

Italy's rampant debt hits historical high of 2.772 trillion, inflation at record high Signs of the Times

The Bank of Italy confirmed on Saturday that the country's sovereign debt skyrocketed by 21.6 billion euros in February to hit a historical high of 2.772 trillion euros ($3.075 trillion). The debt number was described as rampant by the Italian newspaper Corriere della Sera, which added that in 2022, goods and services amounting to 1.909 trillion euros were produced by the country, resulting in a massive 145% ratio between Italy's GDP and debt. Italy is facing a mammoth deficit this year of 5.6% of GDP, which Italy PM Giorgia Meloni stated in December that she intends to progressively cut down to 4.5% in 2023 and then 3% in 2025. However, funds will result from a higher windfall tax on energy companies and worthy cuts in citizens' income.

I start from the following proposition: being female is not an accomplishment. My being female should play no role in my being hired for a job. Of course, my sex undoubtedly has made me the target of sex preferences on numerous occasions, thus casting doubt on any actual qualifications I might presume to possess. My being female should be particularly irrelevant in a university. Until recently, universities were dedicated to the Enlightenment ideal of universal knowledge. Global monetary experiment ends in a bloodbath - John Rubino Signs of the Times

Analyst and financial writer John Rubino said in February: "We are in a debt and death spiral" that will force dramatic changes on the world. It was a direct hit because in March, Silicon Valley Bank (SVB) tanked, and the FDIC and the U.S. Treasury were forced to basically back-stop the entire banking system. The financial problems are far from over as Rubino explains: "Basically, interest rates have been artificially low for a decade . . . . In that time, crazy numbers of office buildings went up and were financed at really low rates. . . . Now, office vacancy rates are spiking, which means office building are not profitable anymore. "The debts they have at 2% to 3% now have to be rolled over at 5%, 6% or 7%. This means an already unprofitable office building is going to be even more unprofitable because of rising interest rates. Now, they want to sell this office space, and the price cuts that have to be done to get a deal done is 30% to 50% . . . . Some are down by 80%. . . ....

The identification of the new biomarker, known as abnormal alpha-synuclein, opens a new chapter for research, according to The Michael J. Fox Foundation for Parkinson's Research. The foundation led the coalition and its landmark clinical study, Parkinson's Progression Markers Initiative (PPMI). The findings were published Wednesday in the scientific journal The Lancet Neurology. The tool, also known as the -synuclein seeding amplification assay, is able to detect pathology in spinal fluid both for those diagnosed with the disease and individuals who are at high risk of developing it but have not yet been diagnosed or exhibited clinical symptoms. The laboratory testing can confirm the presence of abnormal alpha-synuclein, which is detected in most people who have...

Bud Light execs reportedly scrambling to undo Dylan Mulvaney damage: 'It was a mistake' Signs of the Times

Senior executives at Bud Light parent company Anheuser-Busch were reportedly not informed about the company's partnership with transgender influencer Dylan Mulvaney, with one source claiming the move "was a mistake." Earlier this month, Mulvaney revealed a partnership with Bud Light, sharing an image of a personalized beer can depicting Mulvaney's face. In the days that followed, a spokesperson for the company confirmed the partnership stating Mulvaney was just one of "hundreds of influencers" the company worked with in order to "authentically connect" with consumers. "From time to time, we produce unique commemorative cans for fans and for brand influencers, like Dylan Mulvaney. This commemorative can was a gift to celebrate a personal milestone and is not for sale to the general public," the spokesperson continued.

All Roads Lead to Beijing Signs of the Times

This is the tale of two pilgrims following the road that really matters in the young 21st century; one coming from NATOstan and another one from BRICS. Let's start with Le Petit Roi, Emmanuel Macron. Picture him with a plastic grin in his face strolling alongside Xi Jinping in Guangzhou. Following the - long and gentle - sound of classic "High Mountain and Flowing Water", they enter the Baiyun Hall to listen to it played by the 1000-year-old Guqin (a beautiful instrument). They taste the fragrance of 1000-year-old tea - and muse on the rise and fall of great powers in the new millennium. And what does Xi tell Le Petit Roi? He explains that when you hear this eternal music played by this eternal instrument, you expect to be in the company of a bosom friend; you are in synch as much as the high mountain and the flowing water. That's the deeper meaning of the ancient tale of musicians Yu Boya and Zhong Ziqi, 25 centuries ago in the Kingdom of Chu: bosom friendship. Only bosom friends...

Hunter Biden's business partners, assistants visited White House over 80 times when Biden was VP Signs of the Times

Rosemont Seneca vice president visited Obama White House at least 17 times, met with Joe Biden aides Four business partners, a vice president, and two assistants at Hunter Biden's now-defunct firm visited the White House more than 80 times when his father was vice president in the Obama administration, Fox News Digital has found. President Biden has repeatedly insisted he had no knowledge of Hunter's business dealings amid dual criminal and congressional investigations into the first son and his family. However, Joan Mayer, who says she was the vice president of Hunter's now-defunct investment firm Rosemont Seneca Advisors from 2008 to 2017 on Linkedin, made at least 17 visits to the White House during that time, according to visitor logs reviewed by Fox News Digital.

'The White Papers': Exclusive report challenges Ukrainian tactics used against Russia Signs of the Times

Russia's invasion of Ukraine is well into its second year. While valiant, brave and committed, Ukraine's army is David to Russia's Goliath military force. Expelling Russia from Ukraine and bringing an end to this deadly, costly conflict will take more than NATO tanks and the determined hearts of Ukrainian fighters, according to a new report exclusively obtained by CTV National News. Three retired NATO soldiers, who've spent the last nine months in Ukraine training its military, have co-authored what they've dubbed the "White Papers." The lengthy report outlines a Ukrainian military command structure that, at times, is in disarray and a crumbling military communication system that could result in losing "generations of Ukrainians" if intervention in military tactics isn't taken.

Pre-Hispanic ceremonial center with unknown characteristics was discovered in the Andes Signs of the Times

While investigating at Waskiri, near the Lauca River and the Bolivian-Chilean border, archaeologists found an impressive circular construction on a small hill at the site. The Waskiri structure, which surprised researchers with its large dimensions and design, is a pre-Hispanic ceremonial center with unknown features in the Andes, according to the researchers. The study authors say the "surprising" construction is unlike any other ever found in the Andes. Although Waskiri has never been mentioned in the archaeological record, a priest from Spain named Bartolom Alvarez, who visited Carangas in the 1580s, does seem to have made a reference to it. Describing the rituals that took place at the site, lvarez wrote of attendees in a state of "solemn drunkenness" entering what he called the "house and business of hell.

The World Economic Forum Dissident Voice

Those of us in this movement sometimes forget that for most people, the World Economic Forum (WEF) is a meeting in Davos where the rich and famous like to hang out once a year. They have no idea of what the WEF truly is about and what it has accomplished over the course of the last 50 years. Even those of us who follow the WEF can forget what their true mission is, and how deeply they are involved in crafting the new world order, ergo: The Great Reset.

The is truth is that transnationalist companies want control of world governance. The Great Reset is a planned attempt to redistribute all the worlds wealth and power into the hands of corporations, billionaires, banks and and most of all, the World Economic Forum leadership. The Great Reset plans to use the fourth industrial revolution to further their own ambitious plans of world dominance.

Industry 4.0

The Fourth Industrial Revolution (4IR) is a term used to refer to the next generation of technological advances; where it is anticipated that the differences between physical, digital and biological technologies disappear. This is a world where machines and computers evolve independently, where new biological entities and evolutionary changes are being controlled by artificial intelligence, where brain waves can be manipulated. It is, quite literally, a brave new world.

It is a world where transhumanism has become a reality. The boundaries between man and machine are blurred. This is the world of nightmares, of a dystopian future of overloads and underlings; of the technologically augmented and the normies. Of...

The coming war on China: the real target are the American people Signs of the Times

"If tyranny and oppression come to this land, it will be in the guise of fighting a foreign enemy." - James Madison Empire's proxy war on Russia is rapidly coming to a head in Ukraine and the imperial guard might urgently need a new war. Their next target is China and once more we witness a relentless escalation of provocations and hostility. In his Wall Street Journal column this week, former National Security Advisor John Bolton laid out his "grand strategy" to confront Russia and China. His genius idea is to give Taiwan "much more military aid" from western nations and "embed Taipei into collective-defense structures." Preparations for war Bolton's warmongering is only the last in the long sequence of proclamations by US officials indicating the direction of their foreign policy. Last month, U.S. Secretary of the Army Christine Wormuth told an audience at the American Enterprise Institute (AEI) that the United States has "to prepare, to be prepared to fight and win that war"...

Why Marxists Need Darwin Dissident Voice

Orientation

Most people who call themselves Marxists will tip their hat to Darwin and then move on. They laude his theory of natural selection for why species go extinct. They will support his gradualist theory that change is slow in the biological world. Of course, they will celebrate how humans evolved from the ape line rather than descended from the heavens. But once this is acknowledged and socio-cultural evolution for humans  begins, Darwin seems not to be needed. In present time, Marxists are fine when they hear Darwinian explanations for other species (Stephen Jay Gould). But when it comes to applying Darwin to the human species in the present, Marxists become suspicious. Why? Because they say we are now socio-historical creatures. The argument in this article is that Darwinism, in the form of evolutionary psychology, explains a great deal about human conflict as it exists today as well as in the future.

The Social and Psychological Impact of Darwin Over the last 100 years

As many of you know, the period between 1880 to the end of World War II was a rough time for Darwinism. Social Darwinism began in the 1870s, then was joined by the eugenics movement at the turn of the century. The rise of fascism in the 20th century had a biological basis for its ideology. Then two world wars in which fascism played a major part, not just in Germany but also in Italy, Japan and Spain. By the end of World War II, and for the next thirty years you couldnt make a biological argument for any social problems without being called racist or sexist. Even in the fields of personality, biological arguments were isolated into one school of personality (Hans Eysenck).

In 1975, E.O. Wilson threw down the gauntlet. Wilsons specialty was the study of animal societies and he tried to explain how much of human behavior was not very different from the behavior of other animals in their own societies. Wilson emphasized genes as the major causal variable while limiting human culture to a secondary factor. He founded a new field called sociobiology. The attacks on Wilson came fast and furious and Marxists were right in the thick of things, calling Wilson a reductionist. Others implied there were racist, sexist, and class implications for what Wilson was saying. Wilson held on and over the years adapted and qualified his views, giving culture a more prominent role....

Donbass soldier: A chilling warning about where the Russia-Ukraine conflict can lead Signs of the Times

An academic turned fighter believes those who think the fighting can be contained are misguided For a philosopher, the military path - the path of war - is quite natural. In reality, such a scholar is always engaged in this process - the conflict of ideas. He understands that war is the forefather of all things and since he is looking for the origin of everything, turning to war, both as a subject and an element of existentialism, is natural. Of course, it is also a great honor for me to be part of the armed forces of Novorossiya and the Donetsk People's Republic. There were a lot of theoretical discussions on this before the start of the military operation in Ukraine, last year, when the new realities of combat first emerged on such a grand scale. There is a military saying that generals always prepare for the previous war. So, in a way, no one knew how this would look. Of course, the robotization of fighting develops new means of combat and warfare. This especially concerns...

In Chicago the Left Embraces the Democrats and Celebrates Brandon Johnsons Victory Dissident Voice

Brandon Johnson, a progressive black community activist, union organizer, and former teacher, won the Chicago mayoral election against Paul Vallas, the corporate Democrat opponent. Johnsons victory expressed popular rejection of neoliberal privatization and respect for progressive unions, in particular the Chicago Teachers Union (CTU). Johnson was outspent two to one, but not out-organized, winning 52-48%. The election displayed once again the power and organizing skills of the CTU, and showed that people, when they are involved, can upend election predictions.

His campaign also showed how easily leftists can slide from opponents of the corporate rule of America with their two parties to fervent supporters of Democrats when a progressive or liberal candidate seems likely win an election. We saw this before with their enthusiasm for Bernie Sanders in 2016, then again in 2020, even after Bernie had kowtowed to the billionaires candidate. We see it with AOC, who is morphing from a socialist into a corporate shill. And before that, leftists had been enthralled with Mr Hope and Change, Barack Obama.

The socialist journal Jacobin enthused over Johnsons mayoral victory: A week ahead of the April 4 election, Johnson rallied alongside Sen. Bernie Sanders in Chicago, who declared, The fundamental issue is: What side are you on? Are you on the side of working people or are you on the side of the speculators and the billionaires? And I know which side Brandon is on.

This is dishonest both by Bernie and by the Jacobin because the Democrats are on the side of the 1%, not the 99%. Bernie made this perfectly clear in his 1989 article We Cant Tail After the Democrats.

We need a new, progressive political party in the U.S. because on almost every important issue the Democratic and Republican Parties, both controlled by Big Money, are indistinguishableWe need a new, progressive political movement in this country because the Democrats and Republicans are not only incapable of solving any of the major problems facing this country, they are not even prepared to discuss themThe boldness and clarity that we need to articulate can never be done through the compromised and corrupt Democratic Party dominated by Big Money.

At his election victory celebration, Johnson declared, Tonight is the beginning of a Chicago that truly invests in all of its people a city where no one is too poor to live. Theres more than enough for everyone in the city of Chicago. Certainly there is, but since the corporate CEOs run the city a fact Johnson does not address this will not happen.

How would working class left-wing activists view this electi...

This Jordanian startup is creating water out of thin airand training a new generation of entrepreneurs Fast Company

Aquaporo started in a lab at Jordans Royal Scientific Society, where students helped develop water harvesting technology to possibly alleviate Jordans water woes.

Families in Jordan plan their day around water, scrambling to finish cooking, cleaning, and doing laundry before their water turns off. The unreliable water supply, which often flows for only 36 hours per week in urban areas, pushes Jordanians to purchase plastic tanks of water that they place on their roofs. Meanwhile, farmers resort to stealing water by digging illegal wells or siphoning water. All of this is part of a typical week in one of the worlds most water insecure countries.

Parents just relieved teen who came home drunk wasn't drinking Bud Light Signs of the Times

Local parents Tim and Julia Yoder were understandably upset when their 17-year-old daughter Carlie came home drunk last weekend. However, their anger quickly turned to relief upon learning that Carlie had not, in fact, been consuming Bud Light. "I mean, we were certainly disappointed that she was drinking while underage," her father Tim noted. "But at the same time, we're glad that she was responsible enough to choose a less-woke brand of alcohol." Carlie's mother Julia said they tried hard to raise their daughter right and instill her with strong values. "I'm not proud of this, but both Carlie's father and I experimented with Bud Light when we were younger," Julia said. "I'm very proud that we raised our daughter to make better life choices and avoid some of the mistakes we made in the past." For her part, Carlie said the temptation to drink woke beer was definitely there. "Some of the kids had Bud Light at the party. Someone even brought some of those commemorative Dylan Mulvaney...

A Proposal For The Colorado River States Organikos

The Lake Mead reservoir in Nevada is showing a bathtub ring because of drought. Erin Schaff/The New York Times

We have featured the river plenty in recent years. No easy solutions. Bruce Babbitt, who was secretary of the Interior Department in the Clinton administration, and before that a governor of Arizona, has this to say:

Before Western States Suck the Colorado River Dry, We Have One Last Chance to Act

The Interior Department last summer dropped a bomb on the seven states that depend upon the Colorado River for water. It declared an emergency over the two-decade drought that was parching the West and instructed these states, already scrambling to conserve water, to come up with a plan to...
