Permaculture Design Certificate (PDC) with David Holmgren "IndyWatch Feed Pacific"

<p><h3>Why study permaculture?</h3> <p><strong>Join us for internationally-recognised permaculture training that will help you design sustainable, abundant homes, businesses, professions and communities.</strong></p> <p>Whilst population growth and consumption levels are pushing our Planet towards a catastrophic environmental tipping point, permaculture design offers a way that we, as individuals and communities, can take control of our future and live sustainably.</p> <p>It is a design system which draws upon the great truths of traditional knowledge, modern scientific understandings and the ethics of a peaceful and democratic society. Developed in Australia in the late 70s by Bill Mollison and David Holmgren, it is now taught in over 150 countries. Over a million people have graduated from Design Courses and are using this tool to build resilience and diversity into their lives, their local communities & in the workplace.

David Suzuki dubs permaculture 'Australia's greatest intellectual export'.

Permaculture can be employed by anyone, whatever profession or skill, on any scale: from individual, household, urban or rural, to balconies, backyards & neighbourhoods, to farms, factories, businesses, schools and cities anywhere on the planet and in any climate. It offers a sustainable landscape, dignified human-scale living and self-reliant children who have the confidence to design a sustainable future for themselves.

Permaculture is based on three ethics: Care of the Earth, Care of Community and Acceptance of personal responsibility for consumption and population. Many practical design principles, technologies and strategies have evolved to make permaculture one of the most accessible and dynamic solutions to the issues we face in the 21st Century.

Farmers Market Wayville "IndyWatch Feed Pacific"

Adelaide families now have the opportunity buy fresh food directly from producers from all over SA at the Adelaide Showground Farmers Market. The 20,000 strong crowd that turned up for the farmers market which formed the centrepiece of the 'Go Organic Festival' in September in 2005 encouraged the Royal Agricultural and Horticultural Society (RAHS) to back the foundation of a permanent farmers market by a not-for-profit community organisation. The market opened on October 1st 2006 with a massive crowd of 10,000 shoppers and runs each Sunday (apart from the weeks of the Royal Show) from 9am-1pm.

In the tradition of farmers markets, it is a food market at which both food producers and consumers can get a fair price for food produced in SA and support regional and sustainable land use. The market guarantees that you buy direct from the producer and is known for its strict adherence to the ethics of farmers markets which now number in their thousands worldwide as families seek to avoid overstored food from major retailers who pass on meagre prices to farmers. In Australia, the farmers market movement is represented by the Australian Farmers Market Association and SA's peak body, the SA Farmers Market Association, will soon be launched.

The Adelaide Showground location is superb, with a major bike trail, the Glenelg tram line, a major rail line, numerous bus routes all converging to make it one of the most accessible sites in Adelaide. Parking is also easy and cheap.

120 producers offer their extraordinarily diverse products (everything from oysters to almonds and bread to boysenberries!). It is accessed from the car parks at the Leader Street (southern) end of the Showgrounds.

Becoming a member brings with it 10% discount on all purchases as well as a right to vote in the management of the market. Details and memberships are available at www.adelaidefarmersmarket.com.au.

The Food Forest is a foundation stallholder at the market and presents a wide range of foods, always including its signature specialty - organically certified pistachio nuts. We are there on alternate weeks (we run short courses on the other weekends).

"Their Greatest Problem is Mr. Apocalypse... Who is Going to Pull Their Pants Down... in Front of The World." "IndyWatch Feed World"

 Dog Poet Transmitting.......

This is a time of great tension around The World. The troubles in Ukraine are a serious matter. The Bankers are in a great deal of trouble because of their deceitful bookkeeping, and... generally bad behavior.

They have been engaged in stealing the wealth of The World. Their greed and arrogance which comes from having gotten away with their crimes for generations has blinded them to the position they have put themselves in. They desperately need a wider conflict.

Wars are the source of the majority of their wealth. The usurious interest they are able to punish the captive nations with... comes from the debt they were able to put them in... through the expenses of war. This is the means by which they steal the resources... the future... and the fruits of the common labor.

A great pressure has come upon these psychopaths. They are unable to define the cause. It is deeply personal and within. Something is happening but they don't know what it is. This is too complicated for me to address and I only know a little. They are up against it. Their greed is focused on the resources of Russia. Ukraine was a trap they set and the trap closed on them, instead of the other way around.

The threat of nuclear war... the global fallout, and the potential ruin of their investments in the countries they are forcing to do their bidding... is constantly in their minds. It is a precarious thing. The Good News is that this is the coming age of Brotherhood. There will be no total extinction. What extinction there will be will be selective. Still... the possibilities are terrifying for many.

Their greatest problem is Mr. Apocalypse... who is going to pull their pants down in front of The World. In concert... Lady Awakening is breaking the spell that for so long has held The World in a mesmerized stupor. People will not only see what has been going on... through the agency of Mr. Apocalypse. They will also understand what it is that is being revealed to them, through the force of Lady Awakening.

By the day... the pressure on the human mind intensifies and it is processed through whatever weakness... whatever appetite or carnal attraction... most specifically applies to each and every one of us. For some, it is material things. For some it is sex. For some, it is other appetites. For some, it is power and the desire for influence. In each case, none of them will be able to control the shape their...

As Drought Grips East Africa, Humanitarian Aid Is No Match for Climate Change "IndyWatch Feed Nthamerica"

Over the past three years, an extreme drought has pushed the Horn of Africa to the brink of famine, causing one of the worst humanitarian crises in modern history. The dry spell forced more than 2.6 million people in Somalia, Ethiopia, and Kenya to leave their homes last year, and it killed more than 43,000 people in Somalia alone

A recent study from the meteorological organization World Weather Attribution found that climate change made the drought 100 times more likely. The region has always swung between wet and dry periods, but high temperatures have increased what scientists call evaporative demand over the desert, causing moisture to disappear faster than ever and making every drought more severe as a result. The current rain pattern would not have led to drought at all in a preindustrial world, the researchers found.

Even though climate change made the disaster far easier to predict, humanitarian aid donors did not heed its warnings. As the drought unfolded, wealthy countries and aid organizations rushed to deliver supplies. The United States Agency for International Development, or USAID, shipped more than $1 billion worth of food last year, and the UNs Food and Agriculture Organization, or FAO, mobilized around $138 million of cash and food. The UN will hold a pledging conference in New York next week, calling on the international community to send billions more in...

Catastrophic borrowing kills global financial system "IndyWatch Feed World"

Analyst and financial writer John Rubino says this time, the so-called debt ceiling fight could end in a systemic failure. Rubino points out, "In a well-run society, the debt limit would be zero. Governments should not borrow money in the first place. The amount of money we are borrowing is catastrophic. Historians are going to look back at this era, and they are just going to wonder why we allowed it to happen and what were we thinking. We are destroying the global financial system by allowing governments to borrow this much money. The debt limit thing is being called a crisis, and if they let it go too far, it will be a crisis. . . . I think this game of chicken will end in the not-too-distant future, and if it doesn't, they have an ulterior motive. They want to crash the economy because that achieves something for them. We can speculate about this. The party in power wants to crash the economy, and that is a very dark scenario. . . . They are willing to burn down the world...

"We have a captive audience": Boston University to require students to take social justice writing courses "IndyWatch Feed World"

Boston University recently made a new announcement that has rekindled concerns over the rising orthodoxy in our institutions of higher education. The University issued new guidelines for its mandatory writing program that will require all students to write papers with a "social justice emphasis" as a condition for graduation. Landmark Nepal court ruling ends impunity for wealthy wildlife collectors "IndyWatch Feed Enviro"

KATHMANDU In a landmark verdict, Nepals Supreme Court has directed the government to take concrete steps to implement the countrys conservation laws and seize illegal private collections of wildlife parts. Justices Sapna Pradhan Malla and Til Prasad Shrestha also ordered the government to come up with programs to massively raise awareness about the legal status of private collections, and not incinerate or destroy seized wildlife parts, as the country had previously done, but rather to use such items for educational purposes, preferably in a museum. This is a landmark judgment in Nepals conservation history, conservationist Kumar Paudel from the NGO Greenhood Nepal, who filed a writ petition at the court in 2018 that culminated in the May 30 ruling. According to the verdict, whose full text is expected to be published in the coming months, the government must issue a public notice calling on private collectors to declare their wildlife collections. The government must then seize all collections made after 1973, the year the countrys National Parks and Wildlife Conservation Act came into effect. The law states that no one is allowed to sell or distribute wildlife or its parts without permission. Paudel filed the petition on the basis of what he decried as Nepals double standard in enforcing its laws on wildlife crime. While largely considered among the strictest in the world, the laws tend to apply to the poor and marginalized while ignoring the elite and influential, Paudel said. He gave examples of places where wildlife partsThis article was originally published on Mongabay

Moscow might cut all ties with London over UKs rabid Russophobic hostility "IndyWatch Feed War"

By Drago Bosnic | May 30, 2023

Theres hardly a shortage of Russophobia in the political West, whether its the previously latent one or the much more blatant hatred unashamedly demonstrated in recent times. In most countries dominated by the United States this has become the new normal since February 24, 2022. However, of all Washington DCs allies and satellite states/vassals, theres one that makes even such endemically Russophobic countries like Poland or the Baltic states seem moderate the United Kingdom.

In recent announcements, the Russian Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MFA) said that it could completely cut diplomatic ties with the UK over its extremely escalatory actions such as the delivery of ever more advanced and longer-range weapons to the Kiev regime. In a statement for Russias RT, published on Friday, the Russian MFA cited Londons significant and ever-growing meddling in Ukraine, as well as other actions aimed against Russia, particularly when it comes to arming and directly assisting the Neo-Nazi junta forces. Although the MFA stated that cutting ties with the UK might be an extreme measure, it was left without virtually any other option, so this move is being considered very seriously.

The severing of diplomatic ties with the UK would be an extreme measure, but [Russia] could end up taking the step considering Londons significant involvement in the Ukraine conflict, the Russian MFA warned on Friday.

On May 18, The Wall Street Journal published a report claiming that UK special forces from the British Armys SAS [Special Air Service] and SRR [Special Reconnaissance Regiment] regiments and the Navys SBS [Special Boat Service] units are operating very close to the front lines in Ukraine. The WSJ presented the report in a way that indicates these actions constitute a supposed split in policy with the US, as Washington DC has allegedly held back sending special forces to directly assist the Ukrainians on the front lines of fighting. However, such claims are rather laughable, especially when considering numerous reports about American special forces and intelligence assets operating in Ukraine.

Worse yet, intelligence sources are adamant that special services operators sent by the US are directly supporting the Kiev regime forces, including by directi...

A database containing 478,000 RaidForums members leaked online "IndyWatch Feed Tech"

The database of the popular RaidForums hacking forum has been leaked on a new hacking forum, 478,000 members exposed.

A database belonging to the now-defunct RaidForums cybercrime platform has been leaked on a new hacking forum called Exposed. The database contains data belonging to 478,000 RaidForums members.

In April 2022, the illegal dark web marketplace RaidForums has been shut down and its infrastructure was seized as a result of the international law enforcement Operation TOURNIQUET coordinated by Europols European Cybercrime Centre.

RaidForums was launched in 2015, its community reached over half a million users. The marketplace gained popularity for the sale of high-profile database leaks belonging to a number of US corporations across different industries.

After Raidforums was seized, the Breached hacking forums become the most prominent darkweb marketplace for the trading of stolen data. The good news is that in March 2023, U.S. law enforcement arrested the notorious owner of the BreachForums cybercrime forum known as Pompompurin and seized the Breached platform.

Bleeping Computer first reported that the RaidForums member database was leaked on the Exposed forum by one of its administrators, known as Impotent.

The leaked database contains precious data for cybersecurity experts and investigators to analyze the operations of the hacking forums and their members.

The leaked database is a single SQL file containing the table mybb_users. Each record in the table includes usernames, email addresses, hashed passwords, registration dates, and a variety of other information.

The data are related to members registered between March 20th, 2015, and September 24th, 2020.

BleepingComputer and some members of the Exposed forum have already confirmed that the data in the database are legitimate.

The GOP Debt Ceiling Play: Just Two Santas in Drag "IndyWatch Feed Nthamerica"

The only thing wrong with the US economy is the failure of the Republican Party to play Santa Claus.
Jude Wanniski, March 6, 1976

With the Fitch credit rating service putting the United States on watch for a possible downgrade and Democrats dithering about the 14th Amendment, Republicans last week declared the House of Representatives in a break because, from their point of view, there really is no crisis.

In fact, from the GOPs perspective, its all going according to plan.

As Teagan Goddards Political Wire noted: RNC Chair Ronna McDaniel told Fox News that the US potentially defaulting on its debt bodes very well for the Republican field.

Its no accident or coincidence that the threat of a failure to pay the nations bills never once happened during the presidencies of Ronald Reagan, George Bush, George W. Bush, or Donald Trump. Or that it did happen every single time during the presidencies of Bill Clinton, Barack Obamaand, now, Joe Biden.

You could even call it a conspiracy: Theres an amazing backstory with a unique name here. And it all started with a guy named Jude Wanniski, who literally transformed American politics with a plan that the American mainstream media, astonishingly, continues to ignore.

Heres how it works, laid it out in simple summary: To set up its foundation, Wanniskis Two Santas strategy dictates, when Republicans control th...

Its not the only greenhouse gas out there, though. Methane itself is a particularly potent pollutant, and one that is being emitted in altogether excessive amounts. Satellites are now on the hunt for methane emissions in an attempt to save the world from this odorless, colorless gas.

Russia Reacts Harshly to Ukrainian Terrorist Attacks With NATO Weapons Shoigu "IndyWatch Feed War"

Sputnik 30.05.2023

MOSCOW The Russian armed forces are reacting as harshly as possible to terrorist attacks by Ukraine against civilians in Russia using NATO weapons, Russian Defense Minister Sergei Shoigu said on Tuesday.

Using NATO weapons, the Kiev authorities continue to strike at social facilities, carry out terrorist attacks against peaceful Russian citizens. Our armed forces react as harshly as possible to the actions of Ukrainian militants, Shoigu said at a conference call.

The Western support to Kiev only prolongs the conflict but will not affect the outcome of Moscows special military operation, Shoigu said.

Military support for Ukraine only prolongs the hostilities, but cannot affect the outcome of the special military operation, the minister said.

Shoigu also said that the West supplies more and more military equipment to Ukraine.

We monitor the amount and routes of supply and, when we detect them, we strike, Shoigu said.

The defense minister added that Western curators continue to demand from Ukraine to launch mass offensive operations.

Despite the significant losses of Ukrainian armed forces, Western curators continue to demand that the Kiev regime switch to large-scale offensive operations, Shoigu said.
Ukraine lost more than 16,000 military in May as a result of the military operation, Shoigu said.

Groups of Russian troops continue to inflict effective fire damage on the enemy. This month alone, its [Ukraines] losses amounted to over 16,000 military, Shoigu said during a conference call.

Ukraine also lost 16 aircraft, five helicopters, 466 unmanned aerial vehicles, more than 400 tanks and other armored fighting vehicles, 238 field artillery pieces and mortars, the minister added.

Additionally, Russian air defense systems intercepted and destroyed 29 UK Storm Shadow cruise missiles and almost 200 HIMARS long-range guided missiles in May, Shoigu said, adding that Russian troops have recently hit another US Patriot anti-aircraft missile system in Kiev.

The drone attack carried out by Ukraine early on Tuesday targeted civilian facilities of Moscow, minister said.

This morning, the Kiev regime carried out a terrorist act in the Moscow region. I would like to note that it was against civilian targets. Eight aircraft-type unmanned aerial vehicles were involved in it. All of them were hit, Shoigu said during a conference call.

Ukraine attacked the Russian capital with eight unmanned aerial vehicles early on Tuesday, all drones were shot down, the Russian Defense Ministry said.

Biden State Dept will not publicly commit to helping American writer Gonzalo Lira who was arrested in Ukraine over speech violations "IndyWatch Feed World"

A United States citizen has been arrested in Ukraine for allegedly expressing strong criticism against the government's war with Russia and the Biden administration said on Monday that they will not comment on the matter. Gonzalo Lira, a writer and YouTuber who has been an outspoken critic of Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky, was arrested earlier this month for publicly justifying Russia's invasion of Ukraine, according to a press release from Ukrainian Security Service of Ukraine (SBU), Becker News reports. "The security service gathered an evidence base on a foreign blogger who publicly justified the armed aggression of the RF [Russian Federation] and spread fakes about the war in Ukraine," the SBU claimed. "The figure is a citizen of one of the Latin American countries, but has lived in Kharkiv for several years."

In Senegal, rice intensification helps farmers grow more with less "IndyWatch Feed Enviro"

In Saint Louis, northern Senegal, farmers have had to buy extra rice for as long as anyone can remember. Normally, people can only live off the rice they grow for a few months, according to Abdoulaye Sy, director at the governments National Agricultural and Rural Advisory Agency (ANCAR). The rest of the time, people buy rice from wholesalers, hoisting 20-kilogram (44-pound) burlap sacks onto communal minibuses or horse-drawn carts for the long ride home. But since officials at ANCAR introduced a new method for growing rice, called the system of rice intensification (SRI), yields have more than doubled. For the first time, according to ANCAR, families can live off their own crop and make money from the surplus. Our mission is to help farmers achieve stability, Sy said. But we have good luck, since theres another benefit: SRI saves water and combats climate change, too. Developed in Madagascar in the mid-1960s, SRI has been spreading across Africa for the past 20 years, driven by a group of enthusiastic advocates with international support. Its increasingly seen by officials as a way to decrease methane emissions; alongside four other countries, Senegal committed to fund new SRI projects as mitigation actions in its 2020 Nationally Determined Contribution (NDC), its pledge under the Paris climate deal. In January 2023, after years of testing and pilot programs, the Sahara and Sahel Observatory, an intergovernmental collaboration that represents 13 West African states, launched a new project, extending SRI use to more than 150,000 farmers across WestThis article was originally published on Mongabay

DeSantis may have misjudged the tide "IndyWatch Feed Nthamerica"

Ron DeSantis finally made his big announcement about running for the Republican nomination for president and the reviews about his launch were decidedly negative. As Susan Glasser writes, apart from the technical glitches which plagued the process that he chose to do on Twitter along with Elon Musk, DeSantis did not even give a clear indication of what he was hooping to achieve as president.

The start of the Twitter Spaces event featuring DeSantis and Twitters billionaire owner, Elon Musk, was delayed by more than twenty-five minutes while Musk audibly struggled to get his new platform to work. But just as wretched was what DeSantis had to say once he started talking, both on Twitter and in a subsequent interview on Fox News, which boiled down to a lot of complaints about the legacy media and little rationale for his candidacy.

The really vital question posed by DeSantiss official entry into the 2024 race was not, after all, whether Twitter could handle a large crowd in its Spaces feature without crashing. (Answer: no.) It was whether DeSantis could revive his Presidential prospects and actually emerge as the Republican to take out Trump.

After DeSantiss nineteen-point relection victory, last November, he looked to be the Republican Trump-beater at last, Presidentwithout the nasty Twitter habit and all the legal troubles. Subsequent exposure suggests hes also Trump without the charm. In recent months, DeSantis has been sinking rather than surging in the polls, as his many missteps, from thuggishly retaliating against Disney to signing an unpopular six-week abortion ban into law, have given Trump and his allies much to feast upon. DeSantis doesnt look like so much of a Trump-beater anymore. The ex-President, whose lead in the G.O.P. primary is back up into double digits over DeSantis, remains an overwhelming front-runner. DeSantis, meanwhile, will go into the history books for one of the worst and least competent campaign launches ever. Ouch.

As I have said many time before, I think that DeSantis has misjudged the moment. By entering the race now, he is necessarily going to be involved in a bare-knuckle fight with serial sex abuser Trump (SSAT). He simply cannot avoid it because SSAT has already started to savage him and if he does not respond in kind, he will look like a wimp in the machismo-adoring world of Republican primary politics. SSAT has already accused of DeSantis of crying and begging him for his support when he ran for governor in 2016. But if DeSantis retaliates against SSAT in kind (as he has tentatively started to do already), he risks losing SSAT l...

A chiropractic schism? "IndyWatch Feed Nthamerica"

A chiropractor who also has a masters degree in immunology is in trouble because she posted an op-ed that favored vaccines.

The article she posted by the New York Times was titled Underselling the Vaccine and described how experts were being overly cautious when reporting their success rate.

With a masters degree in immunology, Weiss thought the article was interesting and wanted to pass it along to her many Facebook friends, which include immunologists and scientists, she told CBC News.

A fellow chiropractor whose identity remains a secret to this day saw it and reported her to the Manitoba Chiropractors Association, the regulatory body for her profession.

Apparently, some chiropractors believe in an evidence-based approach (then why are they still chiropractors, I wonder?) and others believe in subluxation, which is garbage pseudoscience.

At the core of this divide in the profession is subluxation a diagnosis used by some chiropractors to measure the health of someones spine.

If someone has a subluxation-free spine, there are some in the profession who believe that you dont need vaccines or other medical interventions, explained Brian Gleberzon, a Toronto-based chiropractor and former professor at the Canadian Memorial Chiropractic College.

This would be a very traditional belief, and they would hearken back to the developers of the profession, he said.

The subluxationists are out for Carolyn Weisss (the offending believer in vaccinations) blood, sending cease-and-desist letters and demanding the her op-eds be removed and threatening her license to practice chiropractic. Theyre kind of nuts. They police what members say on the net.

It led to the association subscribing to a web scraper tool in 2021 that crawls through the professional websites and social media accounts of chiropractors and flags keywords such as vaccines.

The word evidence-based, principled, honest, and ethical were also flagged, as the association felt they could be used to make one chiropractor appear superior to another, according to an undated memo from the association to chiropractors obtained by CBC News.

The chiropractic association even has a rule that you cant discuss vaccination because it is not within the scope of chiropractic practice. Well, yeah. But nothing medical is within the scope of chiropractic. I agree that chiropractors shouldnt be dispensing any medical advice, any more than I should, but they are silencing this one thing for all the wrong reasons.

Eye-witness Crimea "IndyWatch Feed War"

May of this year, we took the long, 27-hour train ride from Moscow to Crimea to see how life is there and what the sentiment of the people are as the US and Ukraine sharpen their threats to recapture this peninsula from Russia. And, while we were there, these threats were backed by a series of terrorist drone attacks in Crimea which, while doing little serious damage, signaled an escalation in the US/Ukrainian assault on Crimea.

Despite such threats and attacks, what we found in this historic peninsula on the Black Sea was a beautiful, almost idyllic place with a bustling economy and a general sense of prosperity and hopefulness. We also found a people who seem quite content to remain a part of Russia just as Crimea has been, except for a brief interval, since 1783.

During our trip, we visited the three major cities of Simferopol, Sevastopol, and Yalta.

Crimea has rugged but beautiful coastline.

The Capital Simferopol

Simferopol is an inland city with about half a million residents. There are universities as well as Crimeas parliament and industry. When we visited it, most people were enjoying the holidays. We saw multiple groups of teenagers singing patriotic songs on the street and in front of memorials. It is difficult to imagine something comparable happening in the US or Canada. The difference may be partly the result of education but it also shows the different consciousness and experience. Approximately 1 in every seven citizens died in WW2 so every family in the Soviet Union lost family members. The Nazi invasion and occupation were horrible, real and impacted every one.

Supposed Russophobic statements by US Senator leaves many questions unanswered "IndyWatch Feed War"

By Lucas Leiroz | May 30, 2023

US Senator Lindsey Grahams name has been trending on social media in recent days. As exposed in a video circulating on the internet, on May 26, during a trip to Ukraine, the Republican allegedly said that killing Russians was a good investment. Obviously, the statement generated controversy and all sorts of reactions, including state measures on the part of Russia. However, the lack of clarification on the case leaves many questions unanswered.

In the aforementioned video, the senator seems to say: And the Russians are dying its the best money weve ever spent. At the time, Graham was personally speaking to Ukrainian President Vladimir Zelensky. It is known that Lindsey led an American delegation on an official trip to Kiev, in which topics of interest to both countries in the context of the current conflict would have been discussed. The meeting at which the controversial phrase was allegedly voiced took place during this trip.

There are no means to prove the veracity of the video. Some analysts have claimed that there is a media editing connecting Grahams words. According to some experts, the mention of the death of Russians and the comment about money were not originally in the same sentence. However, as well as there is no proof to actually said by the Senator. Therefore, there is no certainty about what happened at the meeting.

Graham responded to the allegations circulating on the networks by classifying them as Russian propaganda. He said in a letter to Reuters that he told Zelensky that it has been a good investment by the United States to help liberate Ukraine, with no mention on the murder of Russians. However, despite possible video editing, it is evident that at some point in the conversation there was such a mention, and Graham failed to clarify what he really thinks about killing Russians.

Regardless of the veracity of the video, Grahams accusations that the case is related to some kind of Russian propaganda are absolutely unsubstantiated. The edited video was shared on the internet precisely by Andriy Yermak, the head of the Ukrainian presidents office. So, if there is any propaganda intent around the case, it is on the part of Kiev, not Russia. Russians just reacted to something that was posted on social media and generated outrage amo...

China Appeals to Japan to Halt Export Restrictions as Chip War Escalates "IndyWatch Feed Tech"

China appeals to Japan to halt export restrictions as chip war escalates:

China is urging Japan to repeal restrictions on the export of chip-making technology, citing violations of international and trade regulations.

Beijing's condemnation is the latest development in the ongoing chip war between the US and China, which has seen moves from both nations to thwart each other's semiconductor manufacturing prowess.

The Japanese government's move to impose a ban on chip exports comes days after China banned the use of Semiconductors manufactured by US-based chipmaker Micron, citing a cybersecurity issue.

[...] In January, the US convinced The Netherlands and Japan to join it in expanding a ban on exports of chip-making technology to China.

According to analysts, Washington's strategy to strike a deal with the two countries was a significant move, as some of the world's largest manufacturers of semiconductor manufacturing equipment are headquartered in these nations.

The US first imposed restrictions on exports of chips to China in 2015, extending them in 2021 and twice in 2022. The most recent restrictions were introduced in December.

Prophets of Doom: Henry Kissinger and the Intellectual Decline of the West "IndyWatch Feed Africa"

It is unclear why 100-year-old Henry Kissinger has been elevated by the Western intelligentsia to serve the role of the visionary in how the West should behave in response to the Russia-Ukraine war.

But does the centenarian politician have the answers?

Every major global conflict that involved the US and its NATO allies in the past had its own state-sanctioned intellectuals. These are the people who usually explain, justify and promote the Wests position to their own countrymen first, then internationally.

They are not intellectuals in the strict definition of the term, as they rarely use critical thinking to reach conclusions that may or may not be consistent with the official position or interests of Western governments. Instead, they advocate and champion stances that are dominant within the various strands of power.

Quite often, these intellectuals have the privilege of time. In the case of Iraq, for example, neoconservative intellectuals, the likes of Bernard Lewis, worked tirelessly to promote war, which ended in the invasion of Iraq in March 2003.

Though the neocons continued to strongly support greater involvement in Iraq and the Middle East through military surges and the like, they were eventually though not permanently sidelined by a different group of intellectuals who supported a stronger American military presence in the Asia-pacific region.

The West also had its own intellectuals who dominated news headlines during the so-called Arab Spring. The likes of French philosopher Bernard-Henri Levy played a disruptive role in Libya and labored to shape political outcomes in the whole Middle East, posing as a dissident intellectual and a great advocate of human rights and democracy.

From Lewis to Levy to others, the powerful Western intellectual practiced more than mere intellectualism. They have traditionally served a fundamental role in politics without being politicians per se, elected or otherwise.

Kissinger, however, is an interesting and somewhat different phenomenon.

He is the quintessential US-western politician who defined a whole era of realpolitik. Such notions as human rights, democracy and other moral considerations were rarely factors in his hawkish approach to politics throughout his stints as a Secretary of State,...

The Phony War on American Culture "IndyWatch Feed War"

Bereft of an economic program, Republicans turn to social values, beliefs, and prejudices to gain votes and turn the clock back on the change that accompanies societys development. The GOP can no longer convince a majority of voters to support tax cuts for the rich, eliminating government regulations and cutting programs for the poor. In desperation, they are conducting a war on changing American values.

Powerful and wealthy interests discovered that rural people fear the social changes that replace the white Christian power structure with more open, inclusionary, equal, and forward-looking values that attempt to fulfill American ideals. A new set of values accepts gays, different ethnicities, business regulations to protect our health and environment, food, education, housing assistance, and the equal distribution of our economic surplus.

The world changes as Americas great melting pot absorbs immigrants, young people, women, and tries to prevent discrimination based on skin color. They reject being ruled by a closed white, male power infrastructure. People no longer accept being dictated to by the color of their skin, sexual preference, cultural choice, or other incidental characteristicsand demand to share power.

When GOP billionaires, the Koch network, Fox News, and smaller state and local elites began to lose power, they pandered to traditional religious, business, and rural prejudices to gain support. Politicians like Donald Trump, Ron DeSantis, Marco Rubio, and Marjorie Taylor Greene cashed in. They exemplify politics that clings to the past and resist change. They cherry-pick the most radical, out-of-the-mainstream behavior and language for campaigns that promote elite corporate and business interests to amass power and take a larger share of national wealth.

Their made-up culture war focuses on changing values and diverts attention from everyday concerns about medical care, paychecks, and standard of living. Instead of asking why the government doesnt guarantee education and health care, they conceal how, sometimes in concert with Democrats, they distribute economic surplus into their own pockets. A perfect illustration is the 470 state anti-gay bills the GOP is trying to pass, which diverts attention away from GOP demands to cut aid for education, housing, and environmental protection. They increase military spending and ignore the GOP gift to the rich when they passed Trumps tax cuts.

This strategy shifts focus from wor...

Correction: Transgender Surgery Provides No Mental Health Benefit "IndyWatch Feed War"

By Andre Van Mol, Michael K. Laidlaw, Miriam Grossman and Paul McHugh | Public Discourse | September 13, 2020

A major correction has been issued by the American Journal of Psychiatry. The authors and editors of an October 2019 study, titled Reduction in mental health treatment utilization among transgender individuals after gender-affirming surgeries: a total population study, have retracted its primary conclusion. Letters to the editor by twelve authors, including ourselves, led to a reanalysis of the data and a corrected conclusion stating that in fact the data showed no improvement after surgical treatment. The following is the background to our published letter and a summary of points of the critical analysis of the study.

A Crisis of Irreproducibility in Psychology and Medicine

It has been an open secret for some time that there is a crisis of irreproducibility of scientific studies in medicine and other fields. No less a figure than the Director of the NIH, Dr. Francis Collins, wrote that, the checks and balances that once ensured scientific fidelity have been hobbled. This has compromised the ability of todays researchers to reproduce others findings. For example, the National Association of Scholars reports, In 2012 the biotechnology firm Amgen tried to reproduce 53 landmark studies in hematology and oncology, but could only replicate 6 (11%). In 2015 an article was published in Science in which there was an attempt to replicate 100 studies from three well-known psychology journals in 2008. In the original studies, nearly all had produced statistically significant results, whereas in the study replications, only a little over a third produced similar significant results.

Perhaps nowhere in medicine and psychology is this problem of irreproducibility worse than in studies of people who claim to have a mismatch between their sex and their internal sense of being male or female.
d
When we first analyzed the study last October, it was obvious that it had major shortcomings. Dr. Van Mol led our teamwhich includes endocrinologist Michael Laidlaw, child and adolescent psychiatrist Miriam Grossman, and Johns Hopkins professor of psychiatry Paul McHughto summarize our findings into a compact, 500-word letter to the editor. We were not the only clinicians to question the studys legitimacy. A total of seven letters, all critical of the study, were published on...

Light Control Breakthrough Innovative Twist in Physics A Blessing in Disguise! "IndyWatch Feed Tech"

Scientists from Koreas POSTECH and the US Northeastern University have successfully manipulated light using non-Hermitian meta-gratings, turning optical loss into a beneficial tool. Theyve developed a new method for controlling light direction using specially designed meta-grating couplers. This breakthrough could advance quantum sensor research and lead to a range of new applications, such as disease diagnosis and pollution detection.

Light is a very delicate and vulnerable physical phenomenon. Light can be absorbed or reflected at the surface of a material depending on the matters properties or change its form and be converted into thermal energy. Upon reaching a metallic materials surface, light also tends to lose energy to the electrons inside the metal, a broad range of phenomena we call optical loss.

Production of ultra-small optical elements that utilize light in various ways is very difficult since the smaller the size of an optical component results in a greater optical loss. However, in recent years, the non-Hermitian theory, which uses optical loss in an entirely different way, has been applied to optics research. New findings in physics are being made adopting non-Hermitian theory that embraces optical loss, exploring ways to make use of the phenomenon, unlike general physics where optical loss is perceived as an imperfect component of an optical system. A blessing in disguise is that which initially seems to be a disaster but which ultimately results in good luck. This research story is a blessing in disguise in physics.

To Save the News, We Must Ban Surveillance Advertising "IndyWatch Feed Tech"

This is part three of an ongoing, five-part series. Part one, the introduction, is here. Part two, about breaking up ad-tech companies, is here.

The ad-tech industry is incredibly profitable, raking in hundreds of billions of dollars every year by spying on us. These companies have tendrils that reach into our apps, our televisions, and our cars, as well as most websites. Their hunger for our data is insatiable. Worse still, a whole secondary industry of brokers has cropped up that offers to buy our purchase records, our location data, our purchase histories, even our medical and court records. This data is continuously ingested by the ad-tech industry to ensure that the nonconsensual dossiers of private, sensitive, potentially compromising data that these companies compile on us are as up-to-date as possible.

Commercial surveillance is a three-step process:

  1. Track: A person uses technology, and that technology quietly collects information about who they are and what they do. Most critically, trackers gather online behavioral information, like app interactions and browsing history. This information is shared with ad tech companies and data brokers.
  2. Profile: Ad tech companies and data brokers that receive this information try to link it to what they already know about the user in question. These observers draw inferences about their target: what they like, what kind of person they are (including demographics like age and gender), and what they might be interested in buying, attending, or voting for.
  3. Target: Ad tech companies use the profiles theyve assembled, or obtained from data brokers, to target advertisements. Through websites, apps, TVs, and social media, advertisers use data to show tailored messages to particular people, types of people, or groups.

This data-gathering and processing is the source of innumerable societal harms: it fuels employment discrimination, housing discrimination, and is a pipeline for predatory scams. The data also finds its way into others hands, including the military, law enforcement, and hostile foreign powers. Insiders at large companies exploit data for their own benefit. Its this data that lets scam artists find vulnerable targets and lets stalkers track their victims.

Our entire digital environment has been warped to grease the skids for this dragnet surveillance. Our mobile devices assign tracking identifiers...

Beware of the new phishing technique file archiver in the browser that exploits zip domains "IndyWatch Feed Tech"

file archiver in the browser is a new phishing technique that can be exploited by phishers when victims visit a .ZIP domain.

A new phishing technique called file archiver in the browser can be used by phishers to emulate a file archiver software in a web browser when a victim visits a .ZIP domain. The security researcher mr.d0x detailed the new attack technique.

In May 2023, Google launched eight new top-level domains (TLDs) that included .zip and .mov. Security experts are warning of malicious uses of these domains.

file archiver in the browser

To carry out an attack using this technique, the attacker needs to emulate a file archive software through HTML/CSS. The researchers shared two samples, the first one emulates the WinRAR file archive utility, the second one the Windows 11 File Explorer window.

The researchers employed a clever trick, as depicted in the image below, where they added a Scan icon to the WinRAR sample. When users click on the icon, a message box reassuring them that the files are secure is displayed, thereby preventing suspicion.

Then the researchers deployed the sample on a .zip domain that can be used for multiple attack scenarios such as:

  • redirect the visitors to a landing page created to steal the victims credentials when a file is clicked.
  • deceive the visitors by presenting an executable file with a disguised extension. When users click on what appears to be a .pdf file (for example, invoice.pdf), it actually downloads an executable file

Soon there will not be enough priests to say funeral masses "IndyWatch Feed Politics.eu"

Bishop Donal McKeown has alerted parishioners that the massive decline in priest numbers has started affecting services and will only worsen. From the BelTel:

In Down and Connor, 84 priests manage 86 parishes and 146 churches. But, according to Bishop McKeown, the number of clergymen will drop to just 24 within the next two decades.

The Bishop said it is no longer fair to ask priests to keep on workloads and demands that are unreasonable and not sustainable as he called on church members to take on more responsibility.

Within 15 years, and for the first time in the dioceses history, will have more retired priests than priests in active ministry, the letter adds.

Around 3,000 funerals and 800 marriages are celebrated in the diocese each year, usually in a special Mass.

The cleric said meeting unsustainable expectations is no longer possible.

The clergyman warned that with only seven priests in the diocese aged under 40, the number of priests in active ministry will drop by almost 50% in just over ten years.

Father Gary Donegan, who recently returned as an administrator to Holy Cross Church in Ardoyne and rarely takes time off, said there can be angry reactions from non-regular churchgoers when told a priest is unavailable to take funerals.

He recalled covering an incident in west Belfast last week where no priest was available for Requiem Mass.

Mozilla Apologizes for Unskippable VPN Ads Shown in Firefox "IndyWatch Feed Tech"

Mozilla apologizes for unskippable VPN ads shown in Firefox:

Mozilla often tries to persuade users about its stance against intrusive advertising, promoting the Firefox browser as the best way to enjoy the web almost ad-free. Still, the San Francisco-based corporation is well known for forcing its own ads on users every now and then.

Mozilla officially promotes ad blockers on Firefox as a "best friend" for users forced to watch too many unsolicited advertisements while browsing the web. The average person sees "an average of 4,000 ads a day," Mozilla says, and that's a bit too much. And yet, Mozilla recently joined the crowd of ad-serving companies with an "unskippable" message trying to promote the company's own paid VPN service.

Mozilla VPN is a subscription-based product designed to shield users' activity online, with hundreds of servers in over 30 different countries to enhance privacy and the overall internet experience. The service is one of Mozilla's many ventures to seek additional revenue sources, as the company is still largely relying on Google Search money to fund Firefox promotion and development.

This past week, Mozilla started to show fullscreen advertising about its VPN service to disgruntled Firefox users. The ad campaign was met with universal displeasure, with many lamenting the "disruptive, intrusive" violation that goes against Firefox's supposed core values. The ad was shown through the browser's Messaging System, so it was difficult to block with a traditional ad-blocker like uBlock Origin.

Furthermore, the VPN ad was seemingly breaking Firefox and web browsing for several users. Many bug reports submitted to the Bugzilla platform were initially marked as "resolved" by Mozilla developers, as the ad was working as intended and there was nothing to fix. Power users could disable the VPN advertising altogether by changing the browser.vpn_promo.enabled config (on the hidden about:config page) to false.

Power users could disable the VPN advertising altogether by reading the instructions on display in the bottom of a locked filing cabinet stuck in a disused lavatory with a sign on the door saying 'Beware of the Leopard'.

Darfur, Sudan's western region that knows the consequences of war and conflict all too well, could be set for yet a further escalation of violence.

Minni Minnawi, a warlord turned governor of Darfur, has suggested that civilians need to arm themselves, as fighting between Sudan's warring factions intensifies in the western region.

"I call on all our honourable citizens, the people of Darfur, old and young, women and men, to take up arms to protect their property," Minawi tweeted on Sunday, adding that those who did so would be supported in their defence by his armed faction.

Conflict broke out last month between the Rapid Support Forces (RSF), headed by Mohamed Hamdan Dagalo, and Sudan's army, led by General Abdel Fattah al-Burhan, after disputes over plans for the paramilitary to be integrated into the army.

Darfur has seen some of the deadliest violence since fighting began, with around 1,000 people believed to have been killed in the region.

3 Trade-Offs Parents Make Living in Suburbs Vs. Cities "IndyWatch Feed Nthamerica"

(Source: Unsplash/Humphrey Muleba.)

A few weekends ago, I came home to find a pink envelope on my pillow holding a card from my husband: Congratulations on Your First Mothers Day!

The news of our September-arriving baby came much quicker after our wedding than we had planned, and, since then, weve been discussing what this implies for our family life rhythm. Of course, theres been some nervousness about the approaching life change, but for the most part, my past experience as a nanny and observer to many friends who have become mothers have given me a good backseat view of what to expect and a chance to reflect on the kind of family life pattern I hope to establish as a mom.

Its also created an opportunity for me to look at my city differently, this time not just as a woman and an occasional biker or pedestrian, but as a mom. Im already imagining what it will mean to move through the built environment with a baby strapped to my back or in a stroller Im pushing. Its bringing plenty to be excited about, but its also making me more sensitive to the trade-offs embedded into various patterns of city, street, and neighborhood design, trade-offs that I cant say Im excited about.

Trade-Off #1: More Personal Space vs. Proximity

As we prepare for our baby, one of the biggest topics of discussion is whether or not to move out of our one-bedroom garage flat to a home or apartment with a second room. I am coming to understand firsthand the desire for space as ones family grows along with the desire for other amenities, such as...

Can the Global South Build a New World Information and Communication Order? "IndyWatch Feed Africa"

Human Wrongs Watch

By Vijay Prashad | Tricontinental: Institute for Social Research TRANSCEND Media Service*

It is remarkable how the media in a select few countries are able to set the record on matters around the world.

Meas Sokhorn (Cambodia), Inverted Sewer, 2014

The European and North American countries enjoy a near-global monopoly over information, their media houses vested with a credibility and authority inherited from their status during colonial times (BBC, for instance) as well as their command of the neocolonial structure of our times (CNN, for instance).

In the 1950s, the post-colonial nations identified the Wests monopoly over media and information and sought to promote the free flow of ideas by word and by image, as the 1945 Constitution of the United Nations Educational, Scientific, and Cultural Organisation (UNESCO) put it.

As part of the Non-Aligned Movement, the countries and regions of Africa, Asia, and Latin America developed their own national and regional news institutions: in 1958, a UNESCO seminar held in Quito (Ecuador) led to the establishment of a regional school to train journalists and communications professionals in 1960 known as the International Centre of Advanced Communication Studies for Latin America (CIESPAL); in 1961, a meeting held in Bangkok created the Organisation of Asia-Pacific News Agencies (OANA); and in 1963, a conference held in Tunis created the Union of African News Agencies (UANA).

Israel has signed a series of transport deals with Morocco as the two countries continue to foster deeper relations following their 2020 recognition agreement.

Israeli Transportation Minister Miri Regev signed three deals during a visit to Rabat with her Moroccan counterpart, Mohammed Abdeljalil.

The deals include letting Israelis use their driving licenses in Morocco, encouraging direct shipping between the two countries and sharing exchanges related to road safety and transport innovation.

Regev tweeted on Sunday that she was excited to visit Rabat and hoped to visit her grandfather's grave, who lived a "long life in Morocco".

"I am sure that together we will strengthen and bring the relations between the countries and in the Middle East to new heights. The meeting was cordial and professional with professionals from both sides," Regev wrote on Twitter.

Trump, DeSantis Spend Memorial Day Aiming Violent Rhetoric at Political Opponents "IndyWatch Feed Nthamerica"

Usually, Memorial Day is one of those occasions where politicians from across the political spectrum put aside their differences to commemorate the more than one million US servicemembers who died in the nations wars. This year, however, former President Donald Trump and Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis, the frontrunners for the 2024 GOP nomination, spent the day spewing incendiary rhetoric.

To illustrate the first point, below you will find four statements from four senators from opposite sides of the political divide Sens. Ted Cruz (R-TX), Ron Johnson (R-WI), Bernie Sanders (I-VT) and Elizabeth Warren (D-MA).

Lets see if you can tell which statements come from a conservative lawmaker and which one from one of the progressives.

Today, on Memorial Day, let us honor and remember those who died serving our country, and recognize the unimaginable losses their families have experienced.

On this Memorial Day and every day let us never forget the service and sacrifice of those who fought to preserve our freedom.

This Memorial Day, we honor the brave men and women in uniform who have made the ultimate sacrifice in the service of our country. And we honor them by following through on promises weve made to our military families and those in service.

This Memorial Day weekend, we remember those who gave their lives defending our country and the freedoms that make America the greatest nation on earth. It is up to each and every one of us as Americans to carry on their memory, and uphold the values they sacrificed dearly to protect.

If you are wondering, the order is Sanders, Johnson, Warren and Cruz. However, they are essentially interchangeable.

And then there are Trump and DeSantis, who used this Memorial Day to fiddle with matches while sitting on a powder keg of potential political violence.

DeSantis went on Fox News and vowed to destroy leftism in the US. As is his style, the governor is usually vague when it comes to what exactly he means by leftism or wokeism, so it is up to the viewer to determine if he is referring to any Democrat or specific policies, such as wanting to provide healthcare or allow accurate history to be taught in classrooms.

In any case, the message is clear.

And, to drive home the point, the DeSantis War Room, the quick response unit of the governors presidential campaign,...

Israel plunders its own treasury to prepare for a far-right future

New budget boosts ultra-Orthodox schooling, projects promoting 'Jewish identity' and settlements at expense of most vulnerable sections of society

A few minutes after the Israeli parliament approved the budget for the next two years, a triumphant Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu was quick to announce: "It's a great day for the people of Israel."

It is not. It might be a great day for Netanyahu himself; it's certainly a very bad day for most Israelis. The money allocations  - 484bn shekels ($130.4bn), in 2023, 514bn shekels in 2024) solidify an ultra-nationalistic, orthodox Israel, forsaking even the appearance of social justice. Unless, of course, you consider food stamps for members of the ultra-orthodox Shas party social justice in 2023.

About 300 top economists, among them former senior Bank of Israel and Treasury officials, warned in a letter that this kind of budget poses an "existential threat to Israel's future".

As Arie Krampf, political economist at the Academic College of Tel Aviv Yaffo, notes, the parties within Netanyahu's government gave themselves more money for political pursuits "at the expense of the weaker sections of Israeli society".

"Civil expenditure in Israel is lower compared to other OECD [Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development] countries. The new budget is a combination of neoliberalism and designated payments to coalition parties, with no growth mechanisms, which is bad news for the Israeli economy," he told Middle East Eye

Somalias Political Landscape: Struggles for Consensus and Moving Forward "IndyWatch Feed Africa"

Golaha wadatashiga qaranka

By: Mohamed Abdiqafar Haji Hussein.

On May 25, 2023, the National Consultative Council of Somalia issued a controversial statement. It discussed preparations for implementing a one-person, one-vote system in Somalia, extending the terms for both regional and federal governments, and changing the governments structure.

Somalis had differing opinions about the statement. Some believed that it aimed to centralize the government structure, shifting from the president and prime minister, based on the 4.5 formula, to a president and vice president. Others saw a need to change the current government structure, which had not delivered the expected results to the Somali people. The statement sparked debates among Somalis about the topics it covered.

Two days later, President Hassan addressed the parliament. Those who listened to him without first reading the statement tended to agree with him. He told the parliamentarians what they wanted to hear, presenting himself as willing to do the right thing. He explained that the decision reached by the National Consultative Council was a political agreement; it was an initial step before presenting the agreed-upon items to the parliament for discussion.

The council took these steps because Somalia has made no progress in the last 30 years. President Hassan added that radical measures were necessary to move forward, as previous governments had failed to take action. He emphasized that the statement issued by the council was not final or binding; it depended on the parliament, which represented the Somali people. His intention was to take bold steps to start discussions, but the final decision would be made by the Somali people through their representatives in parliament. Anyone who listened to his speech would find nothing to object to.

However, there were significant differences between President Hassans speech and the actions he took. He did not mention that not all members of the National Consultative Council agreed on the statement they wanted parliament to discuss. For instance, President Deni of Puntland state did not attend the meeting and did not sign the statement, even though his name was included.

Any political issue or change of government structure should be discussed and agreed upon by all members of the National Consultative Council. Only then should the agreement be submitted to parliament for approval or rejection. If all stake...

U.S. Govt Launches Consultation on Future Anti-Piracy Strategies "IndyWatch Feed Tech"

america flagFor many years, U.S. lawmakers have considered amending legislation so that todays online copyright issues can be addressed more effectively.

Many proposals have come and gone, without resulting in any significant updates. Calls to change current legislation persist, however.

Before any new laws or policies are introduced, the Government typically seeks input from stakeholders. Thats also the case when planning future anti-piracy and anti-counterfeiting strategies.

Roundtable on Future Anti-Piracy Strategies

This coming October, the United States Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO) will hold a roundtable on the subject, with members of the public invited to join. There are no concrete proposals at this stage but the agency is interested to hear what strategies have proven to be effective.

The office is also open to new ideas for future anti-piracy strategies. The call is quite broad and could include hot topics such as no-fault injunctions, which would allow copyright holders to more easily pursue pirate site blocking orders in the United States.

The USPTO seeks information from interested parties regarding their observations and insights into the future of anticounterfeiting and antipiracy strategies, the Office writes.

Quoting data from the United States Chamber of Commerce, a lobbying group operating independently of government, USPTO notes that video piracy alone causes losses of up to $115.3 billion in reduced GDP per year, as well as 560,000 lost jobs.

Broad Range of Questions

The consultation doesnt ask for input on any specific policies or plans. Instead, stakeholders and members of the general public are asked to share their thoughts on a wide range of piracy and counterfeiting issues, including harms and dangers to the public, voluntary collaborations, and common challenges.

Are you considering new collaborative efforts to combat counterfeiting and piracy? What factors will affect your decision? How might those future collaborations be comprised? one of the questions reads.

A customer holds lira banknotes outside a currency changer on an Istanbul street (AFP)

Turkey's lira dropped to an all-time low of 20.36 against the dollar as markets reacted to President Recep Tayyip Erdogan's re-election on Sunday.

Yet, even as the currency weakened for a sixth straight day, shares in Turkey rallied by nearly 10 percent, apparently buoyed by the end of uncertainty over the election.

The country had already been in the grip of a severe financial crisis prior to the beginning of elections on 14 May, which some had predicted could see Erdogan removed in favour of opposition leader Kemal Kilicdaroglu.

The lira has shed more than 90 percent of its value over the past decade as the country has been hit by soaring inflation, a problem triggered and exacerbated by Erdogan's unorthodox policy of cutting interest rates, which has also driven away foreign investors.

More than $27bn in foreign currency reserves have been burned through since the end of 2022 as the government sought to prop up its currency and finance its enormous current account deficit.

Many observers have been watching to see if Erdogan will return to a more mainstream economic policy following the vote, similar to what he had pursue...

Delta Gov: Okowa Opens Up On Why He Rejected James Iboris Candidate, David Edevbie "IndyWatch Feed Africa"

OKOWA AND IBORI

LAGOS MAY 30TH (URHOBOTODAY)-Ifeanyi Okowa, the immediate past governor of Delta, has addressed his fallout with James Ibori, former governor of the state.

Okowa and Ibori have been at loggerheads since the Delta Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) governorship primary election in 2022.

Ibori had supported David Edevbie, a commissioner of finance in his administration, while Okowa threw his weight behind Sheriff Oborevwori, former speaker of the state house of assembly.

Oborevwori eventually won the primary and subsequently triumphed in the governorship election. He was sworn into office on Monday.

Okowa said Iboris insistence on backing Edevbie resulted in a disagreement between them.

I WAS SURPRISED AND DECEIVED

Speaking with journalists on Sunday, Okowa opened up on why he opposed Iboris choice and resolved to pitch his tent with Oborevwori.

Okowa said Edevbie had tricked him into believing he would respect the Delta PDP zoning provision ahead of the governorship election in 2015.

The immediate past Delta governor said he shared his reservation about Edevbie with Ibori but the latter was unmoved.

Okowa and Edevbie were commissioners in the Ibori administration.

I dont like to talk about it but obviously theres no doubt that we didnt work together, Okowa said.

We went into the primaries not agreeing on the same candidate, we talked about it but he(Ibori) did not want to shift ground on his candidate. Thats the truth and I did not agree with that candidate for basic reasons which I made clear enough to him and also to his own candidate.

I did not hide it. Till tomorrow, I speak about it in truth not because I thought I was a god that needed to install somebody. David Edevbie is my friend. We were with the former governor in his tenure together as commissioners, but in 2014, when it became obvious that it was the turn of the Delta North Delta Central and Delta South had had their turns I heard that David was going to run and he was indicating interest.

I went from Abuja with three of my friends to visit him in Lagos and I said David, please, its only fair, I know that there are so many people competing but Im coming to you as a friend. It will not be fair if you run. Governor James Ibori has been there, Governor Uduaghan has...

Feds Say Jefferson Parish Deputies May Have Violated Law in Death of Autistic Teen "IndyWatch Feed Nthamerica"

This article was produced for Verite by Richard A. Webster, who was a member of ProPublicas Local Reporting Network. Sign up for Dispatches to get stories like this one as soon as they are published.

The Jefferson Parish Sheriffs Office in Louisiana may have violated the civil rights of a 16-year-old autistic boy when deputies pinned him to the pavement, handcuffed and shackled, as officers sat on his back for more than nine minutes, according to a statement of interest filed this month by the Department of Justice as part of a civil rights lawsuit against JPSO.

The teen, Eric Parsa, died on the scene in January 2020. The sheriffs office has also recently faced a number of other lawsuits alleging wrongful death, excessive force and racial discrimination by deputies. The sheriffs office was the subject of a yearlong investigation by ProPublica and WRKF and WWNO starting in 2021, which disclosed evidence of racial discrimination and violence by deputies; after the first story ran, the American Civil Liberties Union called on federal prosecutors to investigate the department.

Regarding the DOJ filing, the sheriffs office maintains that its deputies did not discriminate against Parsa based on his disability and thus did not violate the Americans with Disabilities Act because Parsa posed a threat to himself, the public and law enforcement officers.

But the DOJ said that evidence submitted in the case appears to show that Parsa posed no danger, and that deputies were aware of the teenagers disability and did nothing to modify their procedures or actions to ensure his safety, as required by law.

A reasonable jury could thus find that Defendants discriminated against E.P. based on disability, DOJ attorneys said in their May 12 statement about the Parsa case, noting the only word Parsa uttered throughout the deadly ordeal was firetruck.

The coroner ruled the teens death an accident as a result of excited delirium, a...

BrutePrint Attack allows to unlock smartphones with brute-forcing fingerprint "IndyWatch Feed Tech"

Researchers devised an attack technique, dubbed BrutePrint Attack, that allows brute-forcing fingerprints on smartphones to bypass authentication.

Researchers have devised an attack technique, dubbed BrutePrint, that allows to brute-force fingerprints on smartphones to bypass user authentication.

The attack technique exploits two zero-day vulnerabilities, called Cancel-After-Match-Fail (CAMF) and Match-After-Lock (MAL), in the smartphone fingerprint authentication (SFA) framework.

The BRUTEPRINT attack acts as a middleman to bypass attempt limit and hijack fingerprint images.

The two vulnerabilities exploit logical flaws in the authentication framework, stemming from inadequate protection of fingerprint data on the Serial Peripheral Interface (SPI) of fingerprint sensors.

We find the insufficient protection of fingerprint data on the Serial Peripheral Interface (SPI) of fingerprint sensors, and thus come up with a hardware approach to do man-inthe-middle (MITM) attacks for fingerprint image hijacking reads the research paper published by the researchers Yu Chen and Yiling He.

In order to carry out the attack, the researchers assume that:

  • the attackers have physical access to the smartphone.
  • the attackers possess a fingerprint database and an adversarial equipment consisting of an inexpensive printed circuit board (PCB) that intercepts data transmitted by the fingerprint sensor. In the case of certain smartphone models, the researchers utilized an adaptive flexible printed circuit (FPC). The overall cost of the equipment amounts to approximately 15 dollars.

We implement BRUTEPRINT system to crack SFA and achieve fingerprint brute-force attack. there are two kinds of brute-force attackers who exploit CAMF and MAL vulnerabilities. Specifically, BRUTEPRINT acts as a middleman between fingerprint sensor and TEE reads the paper. Typically, a CAMF exploitation invalidates the checksum of transmitted fingerprint data, and a MAL exploitation infers matching results through side-channel attacks. Fingerprint image hijacking attack meets R2, which has the capability to decode the intercepted fingerprint data and encode replaced data for injection. To increase the success rate of brute-forcing, BRUTEPRINT additionally propose a fingerprint dictionary generation method that trains a neural style transfer network to transfer available fingerprint database into valid styles.

Study: Snares claim another local extinction as Cambodia loses its leopards "IndyWatch Feed Enviro"

Years of law enforcement to tackle rampant snaring and poaching have failed to halt the loss of Cambodias last remaining Indochinese leopard population, according to a recent study. The researchers believe that while a few individual Indochinese leopards (Panthera pardus delacouri) may still linger in Cambodias forests, the country no longer has a viable population of the subspecies. Given the current population status and myriad of threats, it is pretty certain that the Indochinese leopard now is functionally extinct in Cambodia, study author Susana Rostro-Garcia, a scientist with the University of Oxfords Wildlife Conservation Research Unit (WildCRU) and the NGO Panthera, told Mongabay in an email. Regrettably, the population status and trajectory of the Critically Endangered Indochinese Leopard in the [Eastern Plains Landscape] suggest that population recovery in this priority site is unlikely to occur. Researchers conducted seven camera-trap surveys in Cambodias Eastern Plains between 2009 and 2019, revealing that the leopard population declined by 82% during that time. A further survey in 2021 found no leopards. (Individual leopards were caught on camera in Cambodias eastern highlands in 2022.) The Indochinese leopard is critically endangered and its range has shrunk massively to as little as 2-6% of its former size. Cambodias population was considered a priority for conservation as one of the last viable, breeding populations, leaving remaining strongholds in Peninsular Malaysia and Thailand.  In 2018, the same group of researchers estimated the subspecies would be quasi-extinct by 2029, though this was likely an underestimate, Rostro-Garcia said. Fear Grips Residents As Oil Thieves Invade Urhobo Community, Chase Out Vigilantes "IndyWatch Feed Africa"

PROTEST

LAGOS MAY 30TH (URHOBOTODAY)-Suspected oil thieves have reportedly invaded Oghior community in Udu Local Government Area of Delta, chasing away members of the vigilante.

The suspects were said to be peeved after the vigilance members joined forces with the police to rescue some kidnapped officers.

Speaking from their hideout, the vigilance members appealed to both the federal and state governments to come to their aid, stating that the suspects vowed to kill them and their families.

Chairman of the vigilantes, Wisdom Umukoro, said trouble started when policemen from Ovwian Division accosted the driver of a truck loaded with suspected stolen crude oil and directed him to lead them to where he had bought the product.

However, before getting to the bush, where he purportedly bought the product, they were ambushed by gunmen who pinned them down in a gun duel for hours, rescued the driver from their hands and almost overpowered them, but for a timely back up team of police and the vigilantes.

We were at our checking point, when the DPO and his men were passing with their Hilux, when they saw us, he said we are here and his men are being attacked. Although we heard the gunshots, we thought it was cult boys that were fighting. He said we should join them, which we did. By the time we got there, they engaged us in a gun battle, but the police shot teargas which covered the whole place and affected the boys before we were able to rescue the other police officers who were there, he said.

He said after the incident, the oil thieves came against them, adding that they first burnt down their checkpoint at Oghior, before visiting them and their families.

They attacked one of us who is currently in critical condition. When they came to me, they said we were the ones who led the police to them, that they had come for us. As they were threatening, my son of 23 years tried to challenge them, and they beat him mercilessly; he, too, is injured now. I had to go into hiding. Significant Presence of Cesium-Rich Microparticles in an Abandoned School Near Fukushima Nuke Site "IndyWatch Feed Tech"

Significant presence of cesium-rich microparticles in an abandoned school close to the Fukushima nuclear power plant:

Work recently published in the journal Chemosphere has documented the presence of large amounts of highly radioactive, poorly soluble cesium rich micro-particles (CsMPs) in an abandoned school building close to the Fukushima Daiichi Nuclear Power Plant (FDNPP).

The microparticles penetrated the building during the FDNPP nuclear accident of March 2011. They could pose a threat to human health if inhaled. The study shows that indoor CsMPs should be considered in safety assessments and in building clean-up efforts.

[...] In recent years, the team have shown that a significant amount of cesium rich microparticles (CsMPs) were released from the damaged FDNPP reactors. These particles have a radius of only a few micrometers, and they are mainly composed of Si-glass, Fe, [and] Zn. The radioactive Cs content of the CsMPs is much higher than any other form of Cs-labeled fallout released from the damaged FDNPP reactor units 1-3.

The team has previously shown that the particles were likely produced temporarily during the FDNPP meltdown events, when molten fuel in each reactor unit escaped primary containment and impacted the underlying concrete base. To date, work on CsMP containing samples has mainly concentrated on CsMPs found outdoors. The CsMPs were entrained in air and carried into the environment from the damaged reactors, becoming widely distributed in the FDNPP exclusion zone.

Recent work by several scientific teams has also shown that CsMP contaminated air masses that passed over the Tokyo region during March 2011. This information, coupled with findings that CsMPs are poorly soluble, has led to questions over potential health risks posed by internal radiation exposure if CsMPs are inhaled. Utsunomiya states that "given the small size of the particles (generally The Cs radioactivity of the dust on the school's floors ranged from 3404040 Bq/m2 (134+137Cs activity decay-corrected to March 15, 2011. This corresponds to 1251490 Bq/m2 in 2023), with 4.538.9% of that radioactivity coming from the CsMPs.

New evidence suggesting public health officials knew early in 2021 that COVID-19 vaccines posed a heightened risk of myocarditis in young men but withheld that information from the public raises questions about whether federal health agencies violated any laws. According to Dr. Meryl Nass, the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) and Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) knew about the myocarditis safety signal in February 2021, but "hid it until they got the vaccine authorized for 12-15-year-olds in May 2021," and then "kept pushing" the vaccine on the highest-risk groups." Nass said the new evidence suggests the CDC and FDA may have violated the Public Readiness and...

Atlantis Reborn "IndyWatch Feed Africa"

Placing Atlantis properly into history has been one of my more interesting problems.  The biggest problem was actually expanding my vision to correctly see the actual ocean of direct evidence that exists.

What we do have is three totally good dates to act as bench marks for dead reckoning navigation.

2400 BC

My first is 2400 BC or so.  This date conforms to the building of the Great Pyramid in Egypt, Commencement of Mining at Grand Maanan in Wales for copper and commencement of mining for native copper in Leke Superior.  This date has a small error factor of plus or minus whatever carbon dating can give us but not too much.

what it so totally important is that high quality bronze was needed at the Great Pyramid for cutting quality stone and this demanded a high quality sea going trade route.  It also demanded a steady stream of cedar cants from the Levant as well and obviously control of the Mediterranean out of Crete.

all this imfers a sophisticated robust sea going culture centered on the Atlantic. We also suspect that the Huge islands of Atlantis, Lyonese, the Bahamsa and Cuba were all extant as well.  These nicely compare to England, Ireland, France and Japan respectively.  do look at the subsea maps please.

for the next thousand years, the Atlantean culture became global and surely introduced pyramid building anywhere their technical culture took hold.  during this era, they also introduced various bforms of writing as well which culminated in our greek alphabet and also plausibly Chinese ideographs.  Understand that one form preserved language for a century or two until we produced the king James bible in english to lock it down.  The other prserved information such as TCM or traditional chinese medicine.

while the culture became global, command and control never did because it could not.  Even if they used seven league boots, they still could not move armies.

understand also whenever they arrived, they first discovered a village living in the Stoneage and with little to offe...

Golden Heart Medicine "IndyWatch Feed Tech"

This is really important and it dovetails with work my daughter has pursued.  we may well be able to solve these problems and better yet, it may be completely possible to physically confirm that healing has taken place.

pulling this all together will be one of the great discoveries of medicine.  right now we are seeing the edges.

right now we are successfuly resolving mental trauma almost as a matter of course which makes our confidence level high.  understanding and testing the physical components is wonderful news and completely unanticipated.

Golden Heart Medicine

Published on May 21, 2023

I am probably the only doctor in the world who lists the tears of the melting heart as Medicine. These tears are an integral part of my protocol and system of Medicine. I champion the vulnerability of the heart as the most precious thing in life. Yet, most people are busy hiding their vulnerabilities because of fear of being judged, because people do not listen anyway, and because people have too fast responses meaning they think they have the solutions to our problems, so we should take their advice seriously even though they have not listened to us on a deep enough level.

We collectively think/judge our vulnerabilities as our weaknesses even though the truth is that the most vulnerable person is the strongest. This kind of person is not afraid of anything, not afraid to fully show themselves as they are, not afraid of being judged, and not too scared of suffering.

There are hundreds of therapies to help people resolve their problems on emotional, mental, and spiritual levels, and many hundreds of medicines and medical procedures, both natural and pharmaceutical, to try to resolve issues in our bodies. My approach uses only natural interventions and concentrates on basic and essential substances that cannot be substituted with anything else. Statin drugs, for instance, are no substitute for magnesium.

One of the big probl...

The Boston Brahmins, WASPs, and Nazis: The Pursuit of Eugenics "IndyWatch Feed Tech"

Of course eugenics has been rightly bad mouthed for a century for the excellent reason that it was hijacked by anyone with what we understand best as a racist agenda.  Today, the inheritors are trues believers in much of the same along with a pathological desire to reduce the human population.

The whole MEME has sprung up in one genocidal form or the other. Not good.

Yet what about the science?  Practically speaking, we are only talking about planned cattle breeding which has been wonderfully successful in agriculture and even proven itself.  no farmer today avoids breeding choices and in fairness, this has been going on since mankind began herding animals.

the fact is that breeding choices do matter and hybridization even matters more.  Yet preservation of types also matters to preserve variations of potential value.  all this is not so easy as the Chinese have discovered upon their one child policy lowering the numbe of girls.

My central point is that we need to accept intelligent breeding choices and educate for it.  Bit of a challenge and it has nothing to do with so called eugenics.

The Boston Brahmins, WASPs, and Nazis: The Pursuit of Eugenics

During the progressive era, academia hastily adopted the inhumane pseudoscience of eugenics, and its results on the world were devastating. The influence of the Boston Brahmins in New England can explain the fervent adoption of this malignant belief. This elite and well-educated class of white Anglo-Saxon Protestants reeked of pomp and snobbery.

The origin of the term Boston Brahmin came from Oliver Wendell Holmes Sr. in his...

The Secret to Aerial flight 1897 "IndyWatch Feed Tech"

the reason i am grabbing this item is that it tells us that around 1897 we called something Red Mercury.

i first heard that myth referred to decades ago, but could never get to the bottom of anything.  now we are also told that a charged sheet of metallic radium can reverse gravity.  And below i think we have an example of radium ovide.  again this all fits nicely into the time and place.

Metallic radium can make sheets.  Charging it might well interfere with the gravity carrying so called ether.  all this conforms to what is herein claimed.  It is all testable, except we have all been taught to avoid radium.  How curious.

Any such sheet will need to be protected to avoid nitrogen oxygenation if ever used commercially ,but this needs to be followed up on, not least because this is a possible shortcut to usable gravity ships that also conforms to our limited knowledge of cloud cosmology.  I so need an army of grad students.
