Can the Global South Build a New World Information and Communication Order? Dissident Voice

Meas Sokhorn (Cambodia), Inverted Sewer, 2014.

It is remarkable how the media in a select few countries is able to set the record on matters around the world. The European and North American countries enjoy a near-global monopoly over information, their media houses vested with a credibility and authority inherited from their status during colonial times (BBC, for instance) as well as their command of the neocolonial structure of our times (CNN, for instance). In the 1950s, the post-colonial nations identified the Wests monopoly over media and information and sought to promote the free flow of ideas by word and by image, as the 1945 Constitution of the United Nations Educational, Scientific, and Cultural Organisation (UNESCO) put it.

As part of the Non-Aligned Movement, the countries and regions of Africa, Asia, and Latin America developed their own national and regional news institutions: in 1958, a UNESCO seminar held in Quito (Ecuador) led to the establishment of a regional school to train journalists and communications professionals in 1960 known as the International Centre of Advanced Communication Studies for Latin America (CIESPAL); in 1961, a meeting held in Bangkok created the...

Unveiling a Dark History: Nakbas Tragedy Continues Unabated after 75 Years MintPress News

Even with all the protests and mentions of Nakba Day on social media, commemorating this horrific, sad event is nowhere near where it ought to be. Arguably one of the darkest and most awful chapters in the long history of Palestine, the Nakba needs to be fully commemorated in every capital in the world.

The politicization of the ethnic cleansing of Palestine and the consequent installment of an apartheid regime to govern it is such that few countries dare even to mention these crimes against humanity.

The full scope of the Nakba, a combination of several crimes against humanity, is yet to be understood.

To begin with, the Nakba is a tragedy that began over seventy-five years ago and continues in full force. Furthermore, the full extent of the crimes committed in the early Nakba, from 1947 to 1952, is still being uncovered.

The latest discovery was just published in the Israeli newspaper Haaretz. According to the article, David Ben-Gurion, Israels first prime minister, ordered chemicals to be used to poison wells in Palestinian villages.

Newly found mass graves and testimonies of Zionist terrorists like Yerachmiel Kahnovich, who admitted in a recent YouTube video that he shot an anti-tank missile into the Dahmash mosque in Lyd in June 1948, are still being uncovered. Kahnovich single-handedly murdered over one hundred people taking refuge in the mosque as Lyd was undergoing a brutal ethnic cleansing. As the years go by, more testimonies like his are opening up. We should remember and appreciate that both the perpetrators and the victims of the acts that took place during the early period of the Nakba are getting old and will soon be gone.

Unlike the Holocaust, where the widely-accepted number of victims is recognized as six million, in the case of the Nakba, there is yet to be an agreed-upon death toll. So how many Palestinians were murdered as a result of the Nakba? No one knows for sure.

At least part of the reason for the lack of an established figure of Palestinians killed by Zionist terrorism is that the perpetrators of the crime are not done. The Israeli army continues to terrorize, and massacre Palestinians almost daily, and this killing essentially has the stamp of approval of the international community.

Magnitude 6.4 earthquake shakes Guatemala and southern Mexico, no damage reported Signs of the Times

A strong earthquake struck Guatemala on Wednesday, shaking the Central American nation and parts of Southern Mexico, though the quake's deep hypocenter of more than 150 miles underneath the earth's surface seems to have averted damage. The U.S. Geological Survey (USGS) said the magnitude 6.4 quake struck at a depth of 252 kilometers (156.6 miles) and its epicenter was some 2 kilometers southeast of the municipality of Canilla, Guatemala. Guatemala's natural disaster agency said there were no immediate reports of damage, while the civil protection authorities of the southern Mexican state of Chiapas said there were no injuries or damage to property. Neighboring El Salvador said on Twitter there was no risk of a tsunami from the quake.

Four more companies go 'Full Bud Light' in their support for transgenderism Signs of the Times

While major banks downgrade Anheuser-Busch's stock and Bud Light becomes a corporate punch line, a quartet of CEOs seems all too happy to join them. As the beer company implodes under the weight of a national boycott, its cautionary tale seems lost on four companies who've decided to follow transgender advocacy straight to financial insolvency. Who are the brands foolish enough to ride Bud Light's tattered coattails? 1. Target One of the first companies to stick out their necks for the LGBT agenda, Target was woke before woke was a word. So, it shouldn't surprise anyone that the chain that introduced a controversial line of "Love Is Love" shirts way back in 2012 was ready to board the transgender train. Back then, retail analyst Britt Beemer warned that the Target strategy isn't "very smart," especially in conservative states, where it does the biggest business. "Anytime a retailer gets away from doing what they should be doing by being involved in a social cause, [they lose]."...

The survey was conducted with 5,167 U.S. adults between February 21-28, 2023. Derek Chauvin, the former Minneapolis Police Officer convicted in the murder of George Floyd, is appealing his case to the Minnesota Supreme Court. Chauvin's lawyer, William Mohrman, on Wednesday filed a petition for review with the state's highest court, arguing that the district judge's decision not to move the proceedings out of the city deprived his client of a fair trial. The petition comes a month after the Minnesota Court of Appeals upheld Chauvin's conviction for second-degree murder and let his 22-1/2-year sentence remain in place.

Overinflated: The Journey of a Humble Tire Reveals Why Prices Are Still So High Terra Forming Terra

Of course,  noone knows to roll down to the wreakers to pick up a set or so of second hand tires in good condition.  Oh well.  scary place i guess.

This is a really good look see at the induced global disruption we have been suffering.  Absurd really and shows us that we all need to plan for this potentiality.  Understand that any disruption will trigger a disturbance but then small in terms of the overall gross economy.  Is is easy to plan for single disruptions.  Like randomly losing a meat supplier.  Not so when they choose to blow up a bunch of the big ones.

Of course, producers ramp up and become their own middle man and charge downstream which then disrupts the blown up suppliers.  Make India happy and blow up a rag factory.

Irregular economic warfare is not a battle you can ever properly win, but the damage is annoying and it precipatates massive countervailing investment.

The global meddlers have not understood just how much they depend on the peoples forbearance.  Bud id still reeling and may take years to recover.

EPA announces plan to shut down the US power grid by 2030 With mike Adams Terra Forming Terra

As you likely know,  the CCP launched a WAR beginning in 2020 against the USA using what has been called irregular warfare as the methodology.  The idea is to attack the population without deploying actual military assets.

We are all now noticing what is happening, but I remain rather unimpressed.  No one really grasps, just how resiliant our global economy happens to be.  what is more, if I can figure it all out and then see it unfold, so can MIL INTEL which is certainly not captured as an institution.  You did not even understand it existed until the Q feed popped up.

It is hard to watch but do remember the future and all this will pass.  And those that played will become the nutless.  The hunt is now beginning.  HEAVEN ON EARTH is the objective, not HELL on EARTH

EPA announces plan to shut down the US power grid by 2030

The EPA announced new rules last week that will render the entire US power grid inoperable by the year 2030. This will be accomplished by forcing nearly all coal and natural gas power facilities to shut down, claiming carbon is a "pollutant."

It's all part of the planned takedown of the USA through multiple vectors: Wide open border, escalation of war with Russia, food infrastructure sabotage and the step-by-step destruction of the fiat currency (dollar).

The Obama / Biden regime is on track to utterly obliterate the USA by 2030 if not sooner, transforming it into a collapsed third world nation occupied by illegals who will replace the vaccine-terminated oblivious masses who once inhabited the nation.

Birkeland currents Terra Forming Terra

Continuing working through the New science of Heaven by robert Temple.  We have an excellent discussion of Birkeland Currents which have not really been understood and if anything been mostly ignored because we lacked a working model.

The fundamental problem with our observable space is that both positive ions and electrons have powerful repulsion force.  They fly apart unless bound to each other.  It is my contention obviously that DARK MATTER acts to quell this powerful force while not actually binding it.  I use the swork sticky to describe the lining up of an NNP axis with an electron or Ion axis along with the force is applied at a little distance.  the net force is low and also it is easily disturbed by passing energy in the form of photons.

what we now have is both massive and micro flows all through our solar system and even our galaxy which we have seen.  Better yet, all this is sub light.  It is really interesting that theswe also drive our jet streams and that they can be supersonic.  no wonder jet stream gain the speeds they do without any obvious explanation based on aerodynamics.

DARK MATTER is turning out to be the most important element of our existence, just as water is for a fish.  Yet science has convinced itself that what they cannot measure must not exist.  Of really!  That merelymeans you need not look for it.

The Hate Industry Signs of the Times

"The most dangerous terrorist threat to our homeland is white supremacy." President Joe Biden, speaking at Howard University, May 13, 2023 In the aftermath of September 11, 2001, when establishment politicians started to make common use of the term "homeland," they told us the most dangerous threat to Americans was foreign terrorists. But today, we are instructed to fear the enemy within. A new iconic date, January 6, 2021, is inscribed on our collective consciousness. From coast to coast, Americans are being herded into two camps. There are the "white supremacists," those bad people who purportedly hate good people. And then there is everyone else, good people who are encouraged to hate the bad people. The common thread, to state the obvious, is hate. As Joe Biden's would-be successor, doing his part to nurture and support the hate industry, California Governor Gavin Newsom on May 4 announced "the Launch of CA vs Hate, a New Statewide Hotline to Report Hate Acts in California."...

Durham Report Explained Everything was a Lie Armstrong Economics

Special counsel John Durham revealed in his report that all American intelligence agencies knew the Trump-Russian collusion story was a lie. You can read the full 300-page report here. Hillary Clinton needed a way to take the heat off of her email scandal and was the mastermind behind this plot. The CIA and FBI knew without a shadow of a doubt that the Steele Dossier was a lie designed by Clinton to take down Trump. The FBI then leaked deliberate misinformation to the press to condemn Trump on behalf of Hillary and the Democrats.

Christopher Steele was bribed $1 million to write his fictional Steele Dossier. Igor Danchenko was known to be Russian intelligence. Intelligence agencies paid Danchecnko a quarter of a million USD to reveal classified information to back Steeles claims. He could not provide any evidence since it did not exist, but he was paid anyway. Former intelligence chair Shiff said he saw first-hand evidence of Russian collusion a complete lie.

Will anyone be held accountable for these extreme crimes? All Americans should be completely outraged that we were lied to by our intelligence agencies and media outlets in an attempt to alter our election. This is a direct attack on our freedom and electoral process. Hillary knows she is above the law and can commit crimes in the open without penalty or even criticism. Obama, Biden, the FBI, the CIA, and numerous politicians knew that everything regarding Russian collusion was a complete lie. Trump was correct this has been one of the biggest witch hunts in American history.

The COVID Refinance Boom is Over See Who Benefitted Armstrong Economics

New mortgage originations have reached their lowest level since Q2 of 2014. Inventory remains historically low, shelter costs are historically high, and it makes no sense for most to refinance with current mortgage rates over 6% on the 30-year. Originations, including refinances, came in at $323.5 billion during Q1 of 2023. The NY Fed reported that borrowing in general has reached $17.5 trillion, a $150 billion increase, as families grapple with inflation. The refinance boom in 2020 and 2021 will impact real estate for generations to come.

The NY Fed discusses the COVID refinance boom (Q2 of 2020 to Q4 of 2021) in a recent article. Fourteen million mortgages were refinanced during this period when mortgage rates reached record lows. Mortgage rates plummeted 200 bp from Nov. 2018 to November 2020. The last upticks in refinances occurred in 2003 and again in 2013 when rates also fell 200 bp. However, rates were at their lowest level during the COVID refinance boom, allowing many to take out equity from their homes and reinvest. Home equity reached a record high in the time leading up to the pandemic, and the continued rise in home prices provided numerous owners with additional equity.

One-third of all outstanding mortgages were refinanced over the span of 7 quarters. About 64% of refinances were rate refinances, classified as those with a balance increase of less than 5% of the mortgage amount. Those who chose this route saved an average of $220 per month. Cash-out refinancers took out $82,000 on average, increasing monthly payments by $150. Around 5 million borrowers extracted a total of $430 billion during the COVID refinance booma significant sum.

The 9 million who did not extract equity reduced mortgage payments by $24 billion annually. These figures are something I do not expect to see again in my lifetime. Those holding their breath for rates to drop under 3% again should come up for air. Homeowners are disincentivized to sell at current rates, not to mention home prices are AT LEAST 36% higher than before the pandemic. Everyones investment strateg...

On February 27, 2021, Johnson & Johnson boasted that the FDA approved the first single-shot vaccine. However, the company admitted that 41% of those who participated in the vaccination study had comorbidities. HHS Earmarks Millions of Dollars to Give Illegal Immigrant Minors Long Term Foster Care CLG News

HHS Earmarks Millions of Dollars to Give Illegal Immigrant Minors Long Term Foster Care | 15 May 2023 | It is not enough that American taxpayers spend billions of dollars annually to "temporarily" care for the onslaught of illegal immigrant minors that cross into the U.S. through the Mexican border until they get released to relatives or sponsors. Now the Biden administration is quietly doling out tens of millions more for long-term foster care through fiscal year 2024. The money will go to providers that will give Unaccompanied Alien Children (UAC) with no family in the U.S. continuing "quality care in a community setting." The accommodations will focus on migrants up to 17 years of age, including pregnant and parenting teens and those who are "especially vulnerable or with other special needs," according to the Department of Health and Human Services, the agency distributing the money. The allocation comes just weeks after Judicial Watch reported that the government is spending $50 million on "post-release" services for the never-ending influx of migrant youths.

Archaeologists discover that Iranian farmers grew rice about 3,000 years ago Signs of the Times

Archaeologists excavating in Iran's Mazandaran region have revealed that Iranian farmers were cultivating rice as far back as 3000 years ago. Mzandarn is a historic northern Iran region bordering the Caspian Sea on the north. An early Iranian civilization flourished at the beginning of the first millennium BC in Tabarestan (Mzandarn). Based on the results of an archaeological survey conducted by experts from the Peking University, rice cultivation in the Mazandaran region dates some 3,000 years, ISNA quoted Iranian archaeologist Ebrahim Amirkolai as saying on Thursday. The study relies on evidence mostly accumulated from excavations conducted on Qale-Kesh, an archaeological site near Amol, the Amirkolai said. It shows that the history of this grain's cultivation in Mazandaran goes back to the Achaemenid period and even further in time to 3,000 years ago, he explained. Moreover, the excavations at the site revealed significant data about the Bronze Age and Iron Age, Amirkolai...

8,000-year-old rock carvings in Arabia may be world's oldest megastructure blueprints Signs of the Times

Around 8,000 years ago, Middle Eastern hunters carved to-scale plans of their 'desert kite' traps onto rocks. Stars and lines engraved in rocks on the Arabian Peninsula may represent nearby hunting traps, making these carvings the first scale-plan diagrams in human history, according to a new study that reveals humans' sophisticated understanding of space around 8,000 years ago. Archaeologists first noticed these structures, known as desert kites, about 100 years ago, when aerial photography began taking off with airplanes. Kites are large areas of land bordered by low stone walls, sometimes with pits scattered on the inside near the edges. Found primarily in the Middle East and Central Asia, kites are thought to have functioned like pens or traps for animals. Hunters would herd animals, like gazelle, into the kite through a long, narrow passage, where the game would be unable to escape the walls or the pits, making them easier to kill. Because of their massive size averaging...

New nuclear plant in Finland causes 75% drop in electricity prices Signs of the Times

The commencement of regular output from a much-delayed Finnish nuclear reactor in April saw electricity prices in the country decrease by more than 75 percent. The Olkiluoto 3 (OL3) nuclear plant completed the transition from testing to regular output last month to become Finland's first new nuclear plant in more than four decades. It is expected to produce up to 15 percent of the country's power demand. Comment: In a rather worrying sign as to the state of Finland, this project was initially set to go live in 2009 but a variety of 'technical mishaps sparked costly delays and a lengthy legal battle'. And while the plant's production is still in its early days, its launch has had a considerable effect on Finland's energy prices, lowering the electricity spot price in the country from 245.98 per megawatt-hour (MWh) in December to 60.55 per MWh in April, a reduction of more than 75 percent, according to physical electricity exchange, Nord Pool.

The EU will ban Russian LNG 'sooner than later' Spain's energy minister says Signs of the Times

European Union countries will agree sooner rather than later to ban import of liquefied natural gas (LNG) from Russia, Spain Energy Minister Teresa Ribera told Reuters on Tuesday. "This will be coming sooner than later," she said in an interview on Tuesday when asked if the EU will muster the political will for such a move. With imports of Russian crude and oil products banned and the flow of Russian gas via pipelines sharply reduced, imports of Russian LNG are in the spotlight as the EU tries to deprive Russia of energy export revenue. Comment: Well, it has sharply reduced because the US and its allies blew up two pipelines. However, gas continues to flow through the Turkish and Ukrainian lines, as well as some Russian LNG making its way to the West via highly expensive and unreliable shipping routes.

Netherlands gov't plans to restrict farmers to TWO cows per field with proposed draconian green laws at a cost of 6.7 billion Signs of the Times

Minister Piet Adema of Agriculture thinks it will cost 6.7 billion euros to implement the measures in the Agriculture Agreement, NOS reports based on a memorandum from the Ministry. One of the measures in that memorandum is limiting the number of cows to about two cows per football field-sized plot of land. The 6.7 billion euros has not yet been approved by the Cabinet, which first wants to be convinced of the effectiveness of the measures, according to the broadcaster. Adema also thinks he'll need about 600 million euros per year for "ecosystem services" - the ways in which farmers can manage nature themselves. According to the memorandum, Adema eventually wants to introduce a maximum number of cows per pasture. The document mentions "up to 0.35 hectares of grassland per livestock unit." That amounts to about two cows per football field. He hopes that this will result in fewer cows in grassland-poor areas. It could also lead to fewer maize fields that can be converted into...

Prince Harry and Meghan 'paparazzi car chase' was not 'near catastrophic', NYPD officials suggest CLG News

Prince Harry and Meghan 'paparazzi car chase' was not 'near catastrophic', NYPD officials suggest | 17 May 2023 | Prince Harry, his wife Meghan and her mother were involved in a "near catastrophic" car chase after being followed by paparazzi for more than two hours, according to his spokesperson. But two New York police officials have played down the incident saying they do not believe the chase was "near catastrophic" and described a "bit of a chaotic scene." The Sussexes had been driven around 57th Street and nearby roads for around an hour and 15 minutes as they were followed by paparazzi before they were dropped off at the New York City Police Department's 19th precinct, officers have said. A taxi driver who picked up Harry, Meghan and her mother Doria Ragland outside the precinct around 15 minutes later said photographers tried to take photos and capture videos during their short time in his car. Sukhcharn Singh told The Washington Post: "I don't think I would call it a chase. I never felt like I was in danger. "It wasn't like a car chase in a movie. (Harry and Meghan) were quiet and seemed scared but it's New York - it's safe."

US proxies win Thai elections: US & Chinese tensions set to grow Signs of the Times

In a development that will surely impact growing US-Chinese tensions, US-backed opposition parties have won Thailand's May 14, 2023, general elections. A US-backed client regime taking power in Thailand will impact China's Belt and Road Initiative, threaten bilateral trade and tourism, and perhaps even undermine regional security. This is particularly so should Thailand now begin working more closely with Washington over matters in the South China Sea, over Taiwan, or a number of other points of contention the US seeks to use to unify the region against Beijing, but that Thailand had so far refused to be drawn into. The two largest opposition parties, Move Forward Party and Pheu Thai Party, defacto run by billionaires Thanathorn Juangroongruangkit and Thaksin Shinawatra respectively, secured the largest number of seats in parliament. However, there are a number of legal and procedural hurdles that await them, including a selected senate with significant influence over who will be...

Elon Musk apologizes to Magneto for comparing him to George Soros Signs of the Times

After controversial comments that spooked investors in Tesla and Twitter, Elon Musk has finally come forward to apologize to Magneto for comparing him to the dastardly villain George Soros. "I would like to say I'm sorry to Max Eisenhardt, also known as 'Magneto,'" said Elon in a statement. "My comparison was unfair. While Magneto is a conflicted and misunderstood character with real human motivations you can empathize with, Soros is an insane cartoon villain with an inhuman hatred for humanity. Not even close to the same person." The Anti-Defamation League thanked Elon for the apology and expressed hope that he will do better in the future. "It is unfair to compare anyone, living or dead, to that evil, hollow shell of a man known as 'Soros,'" said ADL CEO Jonathan Greenblatt. "We certainly hope Mr. Musk chooses his words more wisely in the future." When reached for comment, Soros responded by catching a fly out of the air with his tongue and asking one of his servants to turn up...

US buying 3 million barrels of oil at $80/barrel to replenish emergency reserves drained by Joe Biden Signs of the Times

Move comes after Democrats blocked Trump from purchasing $24/barrel oil three years ago On Monday, the U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) announced that it will purchase up to 3 million barrels of oil for the Strategic Petroleum Reserve (SPR) after the Biden regime aggressively drained the US stockpile. A record-breaking 180 million barrels were released from the SPR by the Biden regime. According to the US Energy Information Administration, the SPR held about 638 million barrels of oil when Biden took office in January 2021. It has dropped to its lowest level since October 1983 today, at 362 million barrels. "Today's announcement advances the President's replenishment strategy following his historic release from the SPR to address the significant global supply disruption caused by Putin's war on Ukraine and provide a wartime bridge for domestic production to increase," according to DOE's news release.

Silicon Valley's civil war Signs of the Times

With an estimated net worth of over $1 billion, Marc Andreessen, co-founder of the Netscape browser and venture capital firm Andreessen Horowitz, is far from an everyman. And yet Andreessen's biting criticisms of the "entrenched oligarchic structure of the present regime" have made him one of the surprising figureheads of a growing anti-elite movement that could depending on which side wins out reshape America's political and social future. Andreessen is one of the more prominent names in a new class of tech wealth that includes figures like Elon Musk and Peter Thiel whose political vision and methods conflict both with dot-com tech titans like Bill Gates and Pierre Omidyar, as well as with those of old world industry and media, like Rupert Murdoch and Ted Turner. While it might seem strange, given his own position of power, for someone like Andreessen to criticize elites, the truth is that elites have cliques, just like the rest of us. And in the cafeteria of America's...

FBI responds to Durham Report, acknowledges 'missteps' Signs of the Times

The Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) responded to Special Counsel John Durham's report on Monday by acknowledging mistakes in its 2016-2017 investigation of the Trump campaign and noting that the agency had rolled out reforms in response to the mistakes. "The conduct in 2016 and 2017 that Special Counsel Durham examined was the reason that current FBI leadership already implemented dozens of corrective actions, which have now been in place for some time," the FBI wrote in a statement published hours after the Department of Justice (DOJ) published the Durham report (pdf) on its website on Monday. "Had those reforms been in place in 2016, the missteps identified in the report could have been prevented." "This report reinforces the importance of ensuring the FBI continues to do its work with the rigor, objectivity, and professionalism the American people deserve and rightly expect," the FBI wrote in acknowledging the findings of Durham's report. In his report, the special counsel...

Russia will 'maximize' arms production after treaty exit - ex-president Signs of the Times

Dmitry Medvedev said "good riddance" after MPs backed the pullout from a treaty with NATO... Russia will field arms where it wants on its territory and step up its production of weapons after its withdrawal from the Treaty on Conventional Armed Forces in Europe (CFE) with NATO, former Russian president Dmitry Medvedev has said. "Good riddance," Medevev wrote on Telegram on Tuesday after the Russian parliament unanimously supported the law allowing Moscow to denounce the agreement, signed in 1990 by NATO and the Warsaw Pact countries, comprising the USSR and its allies in Eastern Europe. The CFE limited the number of tanks, armored vehicles, artillery, helicopters and aircraft allowed to be stationed in Europe in order to preserve parity and prevent the sides from amassing forces for a blitzkrieg-type offensive. "This document lost its relevance for us back in 2007," the former president, who now holds the position of deputy head of Russia's Security Council, said. Russia suspended...

The Durham coverup Signs of the Times

Reading through the newly released Durham Report, there's a lot to absorb and I plan to be filling several reviews in the coming days. But it struck me that the section of the report detailing an aspect of John Brennan's role in the Clinton campaign and Obama administration's operation targeting Donald Trump and his aides was most urgent. - L.S. The only genuine piece of Russian intelligence that US spy services ever received about Donald Trump's ties to Russia was intelligence that Russia knew Hillary Clinton backed a 2016 campaign plan to smear Trump as a Russian agent. According to John Durham's 300-page report, the information reached the CIA in late July 2016. Brennan told Durham that on August 3 he briefed President Barack Obama at the White House on what the special counsel refers to as the Clinton Plan intelligence. Others in attendance at the meeting were Vice President Joe Biden, Attorney General Loretta Lynch, and FBI Director James Comey.

Plant cells shown to use mechanical cues to regenerate damaged tissues Signs of the Times

Plants have an impressive ability to regenerate damaged tissues, but how they do it is not fully understood. Now, researchers from Japan have discovered the mechanisms involved in this superpower. In a recently published study in Nature Communications, a research group led by Osaka University has revealed that cells within plant leaves may be able to detect mechanical pressure or the lack of it to determine where they are and what type of cells they become in response to damage. In land plants, the epidermis is an outer layer of tissue that forms a boundary between the external environment and the plants' internal tissues. It protects them from environmental stresses. Studying this cell type revealed that cell fate determination how a cell develops into a final cell type depends on a cell's location within the developing plant; for example, the epidermis only contains surface cells.

Chair of Ukrainian Supreme Court arrested over $3M bribe Signs of the Times

Anti-corruption authorities have suggested that other judges may be implicated in the scheme... Ukraine's National Anti-Corruption Bureau (NABU) has detained the chair of the country's Supreme Court, Vsevolod Knyazev, local media have reported. He is allegedly suspected of receiving a $2.7 million bribe as part of a scheme that may involve other officials. In a Facebook post late on Monday, NABU said it had "uncovered large-scale corruption in the Supreme Court, namely a scheme that allowed the leadership and judges to receive illicit profit." The bureau added that an "urgent" investigation was under way, and that details would be provided in due course. In a separate message on Tuesday, NABU announced a press conference on the case at midday local time in Kiev. While officials have stopped short of revealing any names, several Ukrainian media outlets have cited anonymous sources as claiming that Knyazev was taken into custody.

Ilyumzhinov detailed the "encounter" in an interview with the Sports.ru website, published on Tuesday. "[It happened in] September 1997, in Moscow. They called me to the balcony. I went out and soon found myself on their ship. Everything was simple," he claimed.

Butterfly 'tree of life' reveals an origin in North America Signs of the Times

About 100 million years ago, a group of trendsetting moths started flying during the day rather than at night, taking advantage of nectar-rich flowers that had co-evolved with bees. This single event led to the evolution of all butterflies. Scientists have known the precise timing of this event since 2019, when a large-scale analysis of DNA discounted the reigning hypothesis that pressure from bats prompted the evolution of butterflies after the extinction of dinosaurs. Now, scientists have discovered where the first butterflies originated and which plants they relied on for food. Before reaching these conclusions, researchers from dozens of countries had to create the world's largest butterfly tree of life, assembled with DNA from more than 2,000 species representing all butterfly families and 92% of genera. Using this framework as a guide, they traced the movements and feeding habits of butterflies through time in a four-dimensional puzzle that led back to North and Central...

Ukraine's top spy admits agents murdered Russian public figures Signs of the Times

Ukrainian military intelligence (GUR) chief General Kirill Budanov has claimed responsibility for assassinating "many" Russian public figures. The spy boss made the bombshell admission in an interview with Ukrainian blogger Sergey Ivanov on Tuesday. Asked whether high-profile Russian media figures such as prominent journalist Vladimir Solovyov or RT's Editor-in-Chief Margarita Simonyan, are prime targets for his organization, Budanov responded that the GUR had already "gotten" multiple high profile targets. "We have already gotten many, including public and media personalities," Budanov said, without providing any names. Pressed further by the blogger on the potential involvement of the GUR in the assassination of journalist Darya Dugina, the daughter of Russian philosopher Aleksandr Dugin, or the recent car bombing of author and political activist Zakhar Prilepin, the spy boss said he could "neither confirm nor deny" the involvement of his service.

Ukraine's neighbors ready to pay off Zelensky to stop conflict - Seymour Hersh Signs of the Times

Poland is leading a group of European nations that are secretly urging Vladimir Zelensky to find a way to settle the conflict with Russia, veteran journalist Seymour Hersh has reported, citing a "knowledgeable" American official. According to US intelligence, other EU countries that want to see an end to the fighting include Hungary, Germany, the Czech Republic, Lithuania, Latvia and Estonia, Hersh wrote in an article published on his Substack page on Wednesday. "Hungary is a big player in this and so are Poland and Germany, and they are working to get Zelensky to come around," the unnamed official claimed. Those countries have made it clear that "Zelensky can keep what he's got if he works up a peace deal even if he's got to be paid off, if it's the only way to get a deal." By "keep what he's got," the source was referring to the Ukrainian president's villa in Italy and interests in an offshore bank, Hersh clarified.

China tells foreign embassies to remove pro-Ukraine posters - media Signs of the Times

The Chinese government has sent a notice to multiple embassies and international organizations, asking them to remove inappropriate signs from their premises, a Japanese news agency reported on Tuesday. The request most likely refers to pro-Ukraine posters displayed by embassies of Canada, Poland and Germany. The memorandum asked foreign missions not to use the outer walls of their buildings for "political propaganda" and to "avoid causing conflicts between states," according to Kyodo News. It was reportedly sent by the Chinese Foreign Ministry on May 10. The notice also informed recipients that they are "obligated to follow Chinese laws and regulations." However, there was no indication China would renege on the principle of diplomatic immunity, established under the 1961 Vienna Convention on Diplomatic Relations. Multiple Western embassies have put up posters declaring they "Stand With Ukraine," in Chinese and English. The Canadian display in particular has drawn the attention of...

China ready to 'smash' Taiwanese independence - Defense Ministry Signs of the Times

China's military has vowed to "resolutely smash" any separatist movement in Taiwan and warned that Washington's increased meddling with the self-governing island has created a dangerous fracture in Sino-US relations. The People's Liberation Army (PLA) "continues to strengthen military training and preparations and will resolutely smash any form of Taiwanese independence secession, along with attempts at outside interference, and will resolutely defend national sovereignty and territorial integrity," Chinese Defense Ministry spokesman Colonel Tan Kefei told reporters on Tuesday in Beijing. Tan made his comments in response to a US plan, revealed earlier this month, to provide $500 million in military aid to Taiwan. In addition, the Pentagon has reportedly dispatched as many as 200 troops to the island to provide military training.

"While I supported Mr. Marootian's nomination in December, since then the office he's been nominated to lead has proposed stove efficiency rules that I've raised concerns about," Manchin told Fox News Digital in a statement.

Business As Usual: Shutdown or Not, the Police State Will Continue to Flourish Dissident Voice

There is no more dangerous menace to civilization than a government of incompetent, corrupt, or vile men.

Ludwig von Mises

Once again, the police state is up to its old tricks, stoking tensions over whether or not the government is forced to shut down, even partially, due to a default on the national debt.

Yet while these political games dominate news headlines, send the stock market into a nosedive, and put federal employees at risk of having to work without pay, nothing about these high-handed theatrics will diminish the immediate and very real dangers of the American Police State with its roadside strip searches, government surveillance, biometric databases, citizens being treated like terrorists, imprisonments for criticizing the government, national ID cards, SWAT team raids, censorship, forcible blood draws and DNA extractions, private prisons, weaponized drones, red light cameras, tasers, active shooter drills, police misconduct and government corruption.

Default or not, war will continue. Drone killings will continue. Surveillance will continue. Censorship and persecution of anyone who criticizes the government will continue. The governments efforts to label dissidents as extremists and terrorists will continue.

Police shootings will continue. Highway robbery meted out by government officials will continue. Corrupt government will continue. Profit-driven prisons will continue. And the militarization of the police will continue.

Indeed, take a look at the programs and policies that will not be affected by a government default on its debt leading to a possible shutdown, and youll get a clearer sense of the governments priorities, which have little to do with serving taxpayers and everything to do with amassing money, power and control.

Surveillance will continue unabated. On any given day, whether youre walking through a store, driving your car, checking email, or talking to friends and family on the phone, you can be sure that some government agency, whether the NSA or some other entity, is listening in and tracking your behavior. Police have been outfitted with a litany of surveillance gear, from license plate readers and cell phone tracking devices to biometric data recorders. Technology now makes...

Ever Again Dissident Voice

An unusual and pleasant experience occurred when I attended the webinar book launch of Never Again: Germans and Genocide after the Holocaust, authored by Dr. Andrew Port, Professor of History at Wayne State University. Skeptical of Germanys anxiety in remaining identified with the genocidal Nazi past and its servile attempts to gain Jewish approval by assisting Israel, I audaciously framed a question for Dr. Port, You say never again, but Germany supports Israels genocide of the Palestinian people. How do you reconcile that hypocrisy?

I admit that the question was poorly expressed and can be misinterpreted; Germany does not support Israels genocide of the Palestinian people; Germany has contributed to Israels oppression and simmering genocide of the Palestinian people. In addition to German government reparations payments, estimated at $60 billion, the Federal Republic of Germany (FRG) sponsors the second-largest scientific research in Israel and German scientists represent the largest group of foreign scientists working in Israel. Between the years 2009-2020, the FRG accounted for 24 percent of Israels arms imports. Included in the weapons deals were submarines, which can be equipped with missiles, and four German-made corvette warships for patrolling the coast, which Germany subsidizes. From Germanys Relations with Israel: Background and Implications for German Middle East Policy, Congressional Research, January 19, 2007.

In 1999 and 2000, in perhaps the most high-profile German arms shipments to Israel since German unification, Germany financed 50% of the costs for three Dolphin-class submarines designed specifically for the Israeli navy. In August 2006, the German government committed to deliver and finance one-third of the costs, approximately 1 billion Euros ($1.3 billion), for two more submarines by 2010.

By not admitting that its assistance to Israel has dual use, Germany flirts between contributing and supporting Israels oppression strengthening Israel economically and militarily and enabling donated and other resources to be made available to oppress the Palestinians. The FRG jumped to supporting the oppression when a majority of legislators in the Bundestag voted in favor of a motion to label the international Boycott, Divestment, and Sanctions (BDS) movement as an entity that uses anti-Semitic tactics to fulfill its political goals.

Who Ya Gonna Get to Hammer Nails and Wire up your Internet? Dissident Voice

I know, I know, every time I get onto the Zoom Doom thing with the Chronicle for Higher Education, the entire experience is dirty beyong dirty. Today, it was more bizarro people yammering about talent search challenges for getting people to go into higher education.

Three women went into their experiences recruiting and screening potential college hire-ons. The language coming from these people belies the vapidity of our times. Now, well, one woman said, we have 30 people applying for one job, compared to a few years ago when 300 applied for one job. I almost puked.

Of course, she was all about the HR aspect of things, stating that now, she has to go through fewer unskilled or unmatched skilled people than before. As if all these untalented and unqualified people applied for faculty positions. Arrogant, unfeeling, and happy in their roles watching the ship sink.

This entire thing was all about HR-speak, and the shallowness of their conversation and the Dystopian proposals they lay out are just signs of the shifting baseline disorder times.

They are happy about hybrid work, about kicking down the useless 9 to 5 timeframe for work, and are happy that work can be done at home, 8 am to 8 pm, or later, if need be.

Then, two males came on, and they are the Linked-In creeps, which sponsors these talks. Microsoft, now, owns Linked-In. Linked-In does staffing/hiring now, and alas, many of the universities and colleges are using hiring and staffing services like Linked-In to do the real work of hiring and screening.

One of the fops stated that colleges are way behind the times, technologically, and that getting courses and admin work on line, in hyper-remote ways, is the only way forward. You know, these monsters who believe the bricks and mortar campuses are just dinosaurs.

Yikes, here it is:...

Confessions of a CIA Terrorist Dissident Voice

In 1975, Philip Agee published his book Inside the Company: CIA Diary. In the introduction he wrote,

When I joined the CIA, I believed in the need for its existence. After twelve years with the agency I finally understood how much suffering it was causing, that millions of people all over the world had been killed or had their lives destroyed by the CIA and the institutions it supports. I couldnt sit by and do nothing and so began work on this book.

Enrique Prados book, Black Ops: The Life of a Shadow CIA Warrior (St. Martins Press, 2022), is written for the opposite purpose from Philip Agee. Prado says, This book is my attempt to correct the misperceptions that make the Agency one of the least understood and most mistrusted institutions in America today. The reality we faced on the ground in places from Muslim Africa to East Asia, to our own streets here at home, is one of persistent threats that must be countered to keep our people safe.

Prados memoirs were approved for publication by the CIA. They are self-laudatory and highly critical of restraints on the CIA. They confirm that while the ability to assassinate at will was temporarily restricted, CIA sabotage and paramilitary operations against other nations have continued nonstop.

Background

Enrique (Ric) Prados father lost his business in the Cuban revolution and Ric came to the US as a youth in the early 60s. He grew up in greater Miami. The Vietnam war was raging and his dream was to go to Vietnam.

After high school, Ric enlisted in the US Air Force and received training in rescue operations including parachute jumping and scuba diving. Prados dream was dashed because the Vietnam war was winding down and the US military downsizing.

Prado alludes to his involvement with Cuban American gangs and some troubled years. Then, starting with contract work, Prado began to perform assignments for the Central Intelligence Agency.

Prado and the Contras

Prados timing was late for Vietnam but just right for Central America. In 1979 the Sandinista revolution overthrew the Somoza dictatorship in Nicaragua. As a Spanish speaking Latino, Prado was not a typical Anglo American. He was recruited as a CIA officer responsible for overseeing the development of the Contra army...

OpenAI CEO warns of artificial intelligence's ability to persuade voters: It may 'cause significant harm to the world' Signs of the Times

On Tuesday, OpenAI CEO Sam Altman appeared before Congress to address the need for new rules to help guide the development of artificial intelligence as the sector continues to grow exponentially. He suggested that while he was committed to working with the government to ensure that humans remain in control of the technology, there was a chance that things could get out of control. As the Daily Mail reports, Altman warned that if left unattended, AI could "go quite wrong," adding that OpenAI sought to "work with the government to prevent that from happening." He admitted that his "worst fear" was that products such as OpenAI's ChatGPT would cause "significant harm to the world."

The Tasmanian AFL Stadium Protest Dissident Voice

Every now and then, the sharpened, dedicated means of halting a monstrous white elephant before its birth can work. The wise suddenly seem in charge, conscious and aware that folly can be averted. This, however, is a rare feat indeed. In Tasmania protests of some magnitude against a proposed stadium for Australian Rules Football are starting to have some effect. These have taken place against a dark backdrop: a persistent, critical housing crisis; the presence of homelessness; concerns about food and energy security, and healthcare.

On May 13, thousands gathered on Hobarts parliamentary lawns protesting the $715 million proposal that envisages a redevelopment of the Macquarie Point precinct, a rather disingenuous justification to build a needless 23,000-seat structure on prime real estate using public funds. The package totalling $745 million, also envisages upgrades for York Park (UTAS Stadium) in Launceston.

A conspicuous figure present at the protests was one of Australias more prominent authors, Richard Flanagan. As he wrote in The Age last month, Tasmania, and its population of 550,000 people, has two stadiums where AFL games are routinely played. Tasmania doesnt have a stadium problem. It has a housing and homelessness problem. Rents in Australias poorest state have almost doubled over the last five years; affordable properties were elusive to those on Youth Allowance and JobSeeker.

In its myopic vision and scope, the stadium could be said, argues Flanagan, to be a symbol of government inaction on these issues that blight Australias smallest state. In addition to housing, it has Australias worst public health system, and, with 50 per cent illiteracy, a public education problem.

Also present at the protest was federal Tasmanian Senator Jacqui Lambie, who proved to be both colourful and agitated. Tasmanians, she declared in her address to the crowd, have had a bloody gutful over the stadium and you can stick it up your bum.

In what must surely be considered an act of self-harm, the Tasmanian Liberals also find themselves in a governing minority largely because of Premier Jeremy Rockliffs edifice fetish. A day before the large protests, Liberal backbenchers John Tucker and Lara Alexander quit the party. As Alexander reasoned, The proposed shady deal to build a stadium in Hobart has sharply divided the community. While she did not often agree with her opposite numbers...

Bridging the Gap to Nowhere? The Duck of Minerva

Frances Gavins recently declared that the gap between policymaking and academic research has been bridged! As evidence of International Relations newfound influence on the making of U.S. national-security policy, Dr. Gavin points to a handful of scholars who, having crossed the Gap on their own two feet, now occupy prominent government positions. This underscores, he argues, that programs like the International Policy Scholars Consortium and Network and the Nuclear Studies Research Initiativeas well as his own Texas National Security Reviewhave successfully constructed a communications channel between academia and policymakers.

This is a common line of argument among gap-bridgersscholars who emphasize the importance of forging close connections between the academic study of international relations and the world of policymaking. The Bridging the Gap teams recent, thorough review provides a good example. It focuses on opportunities and challenges for connecting academic knowledge to policymakers, while also celebrating the influence of a number of scholars on the policy landscape.

The gap-bridgers do, indeed, have much to celebrate. But I worry that the bridges that they aim to construct and maintain suffer from some critical design flaws. Chief among them: they are made by academics for academics. The engineers ask little of the policymakers on the other side.

Bridge-building must move beyond catering to policymakers. Academics bridge no gaps if they, for example, content themselves with providing validation for policymakers existing beliefs. It means little if someone with an academic background occupies an influential policy position if they perform their role no differently than would any other appointment.

The problem is that gap-bridgers tend to start with the wrong set of questions. Instead of asking What do policymakers want from us? we need to ask ones like What should policymakers want from us?...

Some nations see 'double standards' on Russia - Scholz Signs of the Times

Germany's chancellor has acknowledged the viewpoint that Western powers don't apply their principles equally. India, Vietnam and other countries that have balked at condemning Russia over its conflict with Ukraine largely agree with the principles behind the Western-based "international order," but they aren't convinced that those tenets are being applied fairly to Moscow, German Chancellor Olaf Scholz has admitted. "When I talk to leaders from those countries, many assure me that they are not questioning the underlying principles of our international order. What they are struggling with is the unequal application of those principles," Scholz said on Monday at the Global Solutions Summit in Berlin.

Ice jams, snowmelt result in catastrophic flooding in Alaska Signs of the Times

On Sunday, Alaska Gov. Mike Dunleavy issued a disaster declaration after ice jams and snowmelt led to significant flooding in several communities along the Kuskokwim and Yukon rivers this past weekend. A major ice jam on the Yukon River, which originates in the coastal mountains of Canada and flows nearly 2,000 miles northwest into the Bering Sea, has created catastrophic flooding in several riverfront communities. "Ice jams are caused when ice breaks up on the river, begins to flow downstream but then gets 'stuck' and acts as a dam. This causes the water in the river to rise, usually quite rapidly, and gives very little notice to the flood threat," AccuWeather Senior Meteorologist Tom Kines said. This time of the year is known as the "spring breakup" in Alaska, and while that may sound like the name of a rom-com movie, FEMA officials say it's no laughing matter, especially if you live in The Last Frontier. In April and May, most of the river ice in Alaska thaws and breaks up into...

Oil Wars, Weapons and How the US is Fueling the Somalia Crisis, with Ann Garrison MintPress News

Congress recently voted against pulling American troops out of Somalia. Officially, U.S. forces number 900 and are there in an advisory role to help the government of Hassan Sheikh Mohamud combat terrorist forces such as Al-Shabab.

Yet our guest today states that U.S. boots on the ground in Somalia are doing nothing but serving as a recruiting tool for jihadists, their presence provoking widespread resentment among the people of the resource-rich but war-torn African nation.

Ann Garrison is a journalist and a contributing editor to The Black Agenda Report. You can also find her at The Grayzone and on Pacifica Radio. Her latest article, Ilhan Omar Voted to Withdraw from Somalia, but Shes No Anti-Imperialist, assesses the Minnesota Congresswomans record on opposing U.S. actions in the Horn of Africa.

Garrison notes that Washington has little interest in genuinely opposing radical jihadist groups in the region and is instead focused on maintaining control of a strategically important part of the world. Somalia sits on the Red Sea, across a narrow strait from Saudi Arabia and Yemen. Around 40% of world seaborne trade passes by its waters on the way to or from the Suez Canal. Moreover, the nation is believed to possess over 100 billion barrels of untapped offshore oil reserves. Securing African resources is an existential imperative for the U.S., Garrison said.

The United States has spent the past decade bullying and intimidating countries in North East Africa. From the bombing of Libya and the overthrow of Muammar Gaddafi in 2011 to its attempts to isolate Eritrea economically and politically to bombing Somalia and supporting the insurgency of the Tigrayan Peoples Liberation Front against Ethiopia, Washingtons actions have led many in the region to sour on the United States altogether.

Into this void has stepped China and, to a lesser extent, Russia. Massive Chinese infrastructure projects are everywhere in the region, as Chinese companies build railways, hospitals, schools and roads. African countries have, by and large, also refused to follow the U.S. line on the Ukraine War, instead opting to stay neutral rather than condemn and oppose Moscow. The U.S. has attempted to push China out of the region, but, as Garrison said, China isnt going anywher...

Complaint to SMH re errors in Assange editorial (We) can do better

I have sent the following complaint to the Sydney Morning Herald and I hope others will do the same. Was unable to use the SMH's "feedback" page, so I sent an email to news@smh.com.au. I complained that theire editorial of May 12, 2023, based on their Assange poll and his Kafkaesque incarceration, while widely welcomed, nonetheless contained errors too often repeated which I requested the SMH correct publicly or by publishing my comments.

Complaint

Your editorial of May 12 based on your Assange poll and his Kafkaesque incarceration, while widely welcomed nonetheless contained errors too often repeated which I request you correct publicly or by publishing my comments. [1]

1. You say that Assange was "trapped in a limbo of his own making". This is said without explanation but obviously lays blame on Assange when he has not been found guilty of anything and is imprisoned despite being internationally recognised as a political refugee who was illegally evicted from the Ecuadorian embassy.

2. You say, that "the years have turned Assange into a victim". Not "the years" but the Kafkaesque brutal persecution by the US & UK as detailed in Nils Melzer's book The Trial of Julian Assange.

3. You say, "the recklessness of Assanges release of confidential diplomatic cables". Not reckless but carefully considered. Again, consult Melzer's book or even Wikipedia about this and you will discover Assange went to great lengths to mitigate any harm to anyone and no harm to anyone has ever been documented. Check the findings of Manning's 2013 court martial. Two online organisations had published the unredacted Cables before Wikileaks after disgruntled Guardian journalists David Leigh maliciously broke an agreement and published an encrypted Wikileaks password. Also Assange asked the US to assist in making redactions but the State Dept refused.

4. You say, Assange was "holed up" in the Ecuadorian embassy "voluntarily". As the UN rapporteur on arbitrary detention found, Assange was a bona fide political refugee surrounded 24/7 by British police who prevented him from leaving.

5. You say he "fought extradition to Sweden on sexual assault charges" when no charges were ever laid and as discovered by Italian journalist Stefania Maurizi the Swedish investigation was drawn out at the insistence of the UK's Crown Prosecution Service headed by Keir Starmer to manufacture a narrative that Assange was on the run from the law when in fact he tried to cooperate with Swedish investigators despite the interference of the CPS which destroyed its correspondence with the Swedes in a cover-up.

Sorority sisters file lawsuit against Kappa Kappa Gamma for allowing 6'2 trans-identified male with 'visible erections' into their Wyoming sorority Signs of the Times

Sorority sisters at the University of Wyoming have filed a lawsuit against the Kappa Kappa Gamma Fraternity for allowing a trans-identified male, who allegedly becomes "sexually aroused" in their presence, to move into the sorority in the fall semester. The complaint filed on Monday by seven past and present sorority members in the US District Court of Wyoming accuses Kappa Kappa Gamma of "betrayal" and "breaking their bylaws" which state that the sorority is a "single-sex organization" which must be preserved, Cowboy State Daily reports. The girls allege that Artemis Langford, a 6'2' biological male weighing 260lbs, has had "visible erections through his leggings" and "repeatedly questions the women about what vaginas look like, breast cup size, whether women were considering breast reductions and birth control,'" according to the complaint obtained by the outlet.

False Alarms George Monbiot

Using entirely bogus pretexts, the police are deploying oppressive new laws to shut down peaceful protest.

By George Monbiot, published in the Guardian 12th May 2023

The more unequal a society becomes, the more oppressive its laws must be. This, I think, explains new acts that would not be out of place in a police state. So vague and broad are the powers granted to the police under last years Police, Crime, Sentencing and Courts Act and this years Public Order Act that it is no longer clear where their abuse begins and ends.

At two oclock on the morning of the coronation, the Metropolitan Police, using the Police Act, arrested three people in Soho for carrying rape alarms. The police claimed they were acting on intelligence that rape alarms might be used to frighten the horses that would later be parading elsewhere.

The people they arrested were volunteers working for Westminster city council as Night Stars, helping to stop the sexual harassment of women. They give rape alarms to women who might need them. The alarms are funded by the Home Office. Night Stars volunteers wear pink tabards emblazoned with the logo of their partner organisation the Metropolitan Police. Yet the three volunteers who were arrested were cuffed for three hours and held for 14 before being released on bail.

Why would the police arrest their own partners? What was the intelligence on which they were acting? If they were really worried about rape alarms being misused, why did they not simply confiscate them? It looks to me like the old paso doble between police and press. Two weeks before, the Mail on Sunday had run a front-page story headlined Extremists vile plot to spook Kings horses with rape alarms: Fears protesters planning to sabotage Charles Coronation could cause serious injuries or even deaths as eco-zealot groups set to join forces to cause chaos.

The Mail produced precisely zero evidence that environmental or republican activists were planning such a thing. But if the police wanted to find people carrying these devices, they knew where to go. The arrests were used by the Mail as a vindication of its story. Though Westminster council had explained t...

Discoveries of Ancient Underground Cities Around the World Terra Forming Terra

This iten addresses the extensive global nature of large underground complexes built in competant living rock .  Typically dry even though that may well be what we can see.

From the evidence, it is based upon a lifeway that conforms to the global Bronze Age and post stone Age.  No obvious flints and all that.  We are also missing the above ground surround in most of this or at least seeing only bits and pieces.

so why were they built?  Certainly they can provide protection and storage until an attacking force went away..  That may be good enough.

what is not understood is how?  They used a blow torch type device with a collar to popcorn the underying stone.  The third picture here shows us just that.  That can easily be trimmed with mallets as necessary.

Once a crew was at work with a air pusher and tubes along with any flammable oil, you are in business.

Beneath the surface of our world, hidden under layers of soil, stone, and history, lie remnants of ancient civilizations - vast networks of tunnels, expansive underground cities , and complex subterranean structures. Our ancestors demonstrated remarkable ingenuity, carving out these intri...

A Canadian Century Terra Forming Terra

a long time ago,Canada learned that when you bring in new citizens able to make it here, that their children will all become good loyal Canadians, whatever the parents are or were.

The hard part will be sourcing those new citizens.  It is certainly global and many are picking up on established enterprises here.  This has made a solid market for small business here.

I would like to say it is all well planned, but really not so much.  It is a case of real demand for full modernity without attempting to struggle for it back home.  Canada happens to be the sweet spot if you can afford it all.  except just about everywhere we have educated citizens who can pay for it.

just think.  You have run through a job and gotten married and few good salaries exist in your city.  You have money and family support.  what a great time to make such a move.  difficult, but also an adventure and you get here to discover a support community of expats.  so why not?  it actually works for all of them.

Advancing prop tech Terra Forming Terra

this is real progress on props.  we are getting it now because we can use 3d printing to mock up trial props for testing.  In the past it meant cranking up the machining tools and every best guess was only so good.

I do think that the big market will be in the water.  They have to find a way to cast them and finish with machining.  Yet every outboard needs this and every power boat.  That number is actually finite and we can tune them with printed props in order to get them right.  Then apply speed with metal and perhaps some trim then

We have needed a better prop solution forever.

Newly discovered cold-adapted microbes digest plastic at low temperatures Terra Forming Terra

This is promising. It means waste can be processed at normal temperatures and then allowed to degrade with these microbes.  Of course we need to stop river dumping, but that will come in time as  everyone joins into modernity.

This means that the waste stream can be simply put through normal mine processing.  That is rotary grinding and fine screening.  Rotting will then reduce organics well enough.  No chemistry involved.

In effect nothing changes and the waste can be safely stacked in this form and even compressed to trap any PE.  Oxidization shouod even reduce the PE.

There are better ways, but way too much opposition.

Newly discovered bacteria and fungi collected from alpine and Arctic regions can digest plastics in cold temperatures

Swiss scientists have discovered new cold-adapted microorganisms that can degrade different types of plastic at temperatures lower than currently required. The discovery is the first step towards developing a more cost-effective, industrial-scale method that could rid the planet of plastic pollution.

Theres a great need to reduce plastic pollution on our lands and in our oceans. In 2020, annual global plastic production reached 367 megatons;...

Ron DeSantis is coming for teachers unions. Its just the latest attack against the labor movement Fast Company

Florida is just one in a string of states that have recently passed laws intending to weaken public sector unions.

For any member of a union, dues are often automatically deducted from their paychecks. But for teachers and government employees who are union members in Florida, a recently passed bill will add friction to that process, banning automatic deductions from their paychecks and requiring separate payments to their unions.

These floating triangle buildings could be the future of coastal cities Fast Company

With sea levels rising, more cities may need to build on water.

The decorative ponds surrounding the Nieuwe Instituut in Rotterdam have been taken over by a massive floating structure. Looking like an oversized camping tent, the structure is a cavernous wooden A-frame, rising more than 20 feet but floating effortlessly on a grid of plastic pontoons. Its part installation and part provocation: In a country, and a world, where low-lying cities are facing increasing risk from sea level rise and flooding, the floating structures are a vision of the way buildings may soon have to be built.

Text and video of Former Frankston Mayor Glenn Aitken speaking at the Stop the Great Wall of Frankston Rally 13 May 2023 (We) can do better

The following is much of the text of Glen Aitken's remarks between introductions of other speakers. Glen was the presenter of the rally, but he was also asked to speak before or after or between introducing other speakers.  So the transcript below is compiled of a number of interesting things he said in that context, particularly the insights he provided about how council operates, and especially his advice about how the people of Frankston could help the Council to stand up to the bully that State Governments and ministers have become.  [Glen does not actually call them bullies, but they clearly act that way.  The great fear of council is that they will have their powers even more severely abrogated by the state government if they don't give it everything it demands.]

Transcript of a compilation of Glen Aitken's comments

[Some Councillors] didn't really want to know about it and cried other people down who were trying to make great improvements for your local city. And we're actually in the shadow of one of the buildings that came out of that bad decision making here today. [The South East Water building on Kananook Creek esplanade.]

In the years that I was in Counsel [] I always worked to try and get a better planning outcome with all the applications that came before us in the chamber as far as was possible. What happened in Frankston was about seventeen, eighteen   oh, it would be twenty years ago now - the whole concept of transit cities, was put to us and other key places around Melbourne, such as Box Hill and Dandenong.

Now, councils were promised a treasure trove of money, development, stimulated economies. And, of course, councils wanted to see that in their local area, but one of the conditions, I suppose, of a Transit city is high-rise buildings. Now, in Dandenong, they've received a vast amount of money to redevelop Dandenong centre, and that's very obvious. If anybody has been to Dandenong. You can see all the boulevard, the white areas of paving, and other buildings going up. ...

The largest scientific experiment in history was Peer Review itself and it failed Signs of the Times

Peer Review has been a sixty year experiment with no control group It's touted as the "gold standard" of science, yet the evidence shows Peer Review is an abject failure. There are 30,000 scientific journals that publish nearly 5 million articles a year, and the only thing we know for sure is that two-thirds of papers with major flaws will still get published, fraud is almost never discovered, and peer review has effectively crushed ground breaking new discoveries. By Adam Mastroianni, Experimental History The rise and fall of Peer Review Why the greatest scientific experiment in history failed, and why that's a great thing For the last 60 years or so, science has been running an experiment on itself. The experimental design wasn't great; there was no randomization and no control group. Nobody was in charge, exactly, and nobody was really taking consistent measurements. And yet it was the most massive experiment ever run, and it included every scientist on Earth. It seemed like a...

America Has Been Invaded Armstrong Economics

The end of Title 42 has been an absolute disaster. There is no telling how many migrants entered the border last week. These are not simply women and children seeking a new life. The majority of those entering are military-aged MEN who feel entitled to enter America illegally. These are not struggling individuals. American Door Dash drivers were sending food deliveries to the border as over 60,000 migrants lined up around the immediate border area in anticipation of midnight on May 11.

One extremely troubling issue is El Salvadors recent crackdown on gang crime. The nation locked up all affiliated gang members and saw a drastic decrease in crime. The gang members who escaped had nowhere to go, and no one wanted to infringe on Mexicos feared cartels. Neighboring Honduras was forced to follow suit after declaring a state of emergency over violent crime in November 2022. Guatemala would be wise to go this route as well, but gangs will be more successful when selling to people using the USD.

Haiti is in ruin and people have been attempting to flee for years. Venezuelas economy is a glimpse at how well socialism works. Nicaragua and Cuba are also unfortunate examples. There is a reason people want to leave their home countries for a better life. Yet, there are no checks and balances. Every border state has said theyve been overrun and overpowered by the huge influx of migrants.

An Afghan terrorist on the FBIs wanted list was recently caught trying to cross the border near San Diego. Do people think this man was alone? On the days leading up to the end of Title 42, 30% of apprehended migrants escaped border custody. These are merely the people who were caught. Chairman Mark Green, R-Tenn. Admitted we have no idea who is entering this country and being released into the U.S. interior. Green commented that it is chilling to think of the 1.4 million migrants who already evaded Border Patrol under Biden before Title 42 ended.

The US has been compromised. The border is wide open and those who wish to come in without respecting the nations asylum laws may do so with little pushback. Our nation is already facing a housing shortage crisis, and cities with leaders who claimed to be refugee friendly are desperately trying to find a way to house and feed all of these people who cannot le...

Supply Chain Crisis and Inflation Armstrong Economics

COMMENT: Hello Mr. Armstrong. Thank you for my daily dose of reality. Your blog is one of the last sources of untainted news. I would like to show these pictures my daughter sent me last week. We live in an affluent neighborhood in New Jersey where petty theft does not occur. The news outlets have not mentioned baby formula shortages. I do not believe they are locking up the baby formula to prevent crime. What is going on here?

Thanks C.G.

Products that expire will see additional shortages naturally. The supply shortage is fueling inflation and raising rates will not solve t...

The 37 Year Cycle Armstrong Economics

Well, Sports Illustrated just had to join the BudLight Woke Controversy. I suppose they could have put a Transgender on the cover. So it looks like they decided to stop short of that insanity and chose to put Martha Stewart who is 81 on the cover.

She appeared on the cover a record five times: 1986, 1987, 1988, 1994, and 2006. Girls would line up with the hope of following Elles career desperately trying to make the cover of Sports Illustrated.

A pair of rare, unknown Rembrandt portraits worth millions discovered in private collection Signs of the Times

A pair of unknown and "exceptionally rare" portraits by Rembrandt have been discovered in a private collection in the UK. The intimate paintings of relatives of the Dutch master are now expected to sell for between 5 million and 8 million ($6.25 million-$10 million) at auction. Signed and dated 1635, the pictures are of an elderly husband and wife who were related to Rembrandt by marriage. Measuring just under 8 inches high, the paintings depict wealthy plumber Jan Willemsz van der Pluym and his wife Jaapgen Carels, who were from a prominent family in the Dutch city of Leiden.

A rare mutation has helped one man stave off Alzheimer's for decades Signs of the Times

It's the second such case ever to be reported A rare genetic mutation never seen before protected a man with an inherited form of Alzheimer's from developing the disease for decades. He is the second person found to have such protection, following a report in 2019 of a woman with a different mutation (SN: 1/26/20). Both mutations may have staved off the disease for years by acting in similar ways in the brain, an insight that could lead to new treatments for all forms of Alzheimer's, scientists report May 15 in Nature Medicine. But some researchers are cautious about concluding too much from just two cases. "The results look very promising, but it would be useful to see replication in more samples," says neurologist Rudolph Tanzi of Harvard Medical School who was not involved in the new study. Still, the work is important as "it can serve as a useful guide for drug discovery," he says.

Grasslands Audit - "It's like a doctor giving you a check-up but failing to report that you have a missing hand" - VNPA (We) can do better

Yes, the audit is harsh in some of its detail, but it could have gone much further if it wasnt so heavily constrained by its scope," say the Victorian National Parks Association, adding that, Its like a doctor giving you a check-up but failing to report that you have a missing hand." Candobetter Ed: Well, what else would be expect of a Victorian Government biodiversity audit, when high-rise developers have overtaken the state government? The bastards don't even want us to retain 1% of our grasslands, whilst they already have 90% of the nation's wealth!

An critical audit of the Victorian Governments flagship grassland conservation program is calling for major changes to protect some of the states most precious landscapes.

The long-awaited Strategic Audit of the Melbourne Strategic Assessment was tabled in parliament on Tuesday.

It made 16 recommendations to redesign the program, including a new governance framework to support better decision-making and risk management practices at all levels.

The MSA is an agreement between the Victorian and federal governments to protect matters of national environmental significance. This includes the critically endangered grassland communities and the bandicoots, frogs, lizards, and threatened plants that depend on them for their survival.

The MSA is also supposed to streamline development of the 60,000 hectares of land released for urban growth back in 2010.

But the Strategic Audit plainly describes the MSA as limited in scope, stating it lacks the comprehensive analysis of biodiversity values at an ecosystem scalerequired to achieve whole-of-landscape outcomes.

It highlights that critical gaps in vital data and knowledge hamper the MSA programs ability to adequately assess whether it is meeting its conservation commitments.

Conservation groups the Grassy Plains Network and the Victorian National Parks Association have called for effective governance of the failing program for years.

Victorias grasslands have suffered huge losses since colonial settlement, with 99% destroyed by grazing, cropping and urban development. Once covering almost a third of the state, our native grassy ecosystems are on the brink of extinction.

But, if these recommendations are acted on, at long last we might get some change for the better, Grassy Plains Network facilitator Adrian Marshall said.

The audit found the few high-quality patches of grassland acquired by the MSA are stable which is good news but the bulk of the supposedly protected grasslands are in decline. It also highlighted a clear absence of any requirement to assess how effective different management options are.

This backs up what cons...

"From whatever angle, Syria's return to the Arab League is something to be happy about except for a certain country," Foreign Ministry spokesman Wang Wenbin said on Monday in a press briefing in Beijing. He added that US officials "unabashedly criticized" the move and pressured allies not to normalize relations with Syria. "In fact, it is because of the US pressure and sanctions that Syria has suffered 12 years of war with related catastrophic consequences lasting until now."

'The longest and loudest shelling in Kyiv since the war began' Signs of the Times

This was the longest and loudest shelling in Kyiv since the war began. I woke up after a loud bang that made the windows of my downtown apartment shake. It felt very close, but the sound made me realise it was the "good" bang of air defence systems hitting drones or missiles midair. At least 10 more bangs followed within a couple of minutes, with bright spots of air defence rockets coming up in the darkness. Comment: Well, the Kiev junta claims to be taking out the vast majority of Russia's precision strikes and yet the destruction of the Nazi infrastructure continues unabated, as do the rolling blackouts. I was too sleepy to count them. These are not the kind of fireworks that make you rush to the window to enjoy the view, let alone videotape. I watched them through the blinds still lying in my bed.

Earthquake that struck in early stages of Vesuvius eruption killed people at Pompeii, skeletons reveal Signs of the Times

The remains of two people believed to have been killed by an earthquake that accompanied the AD79 eruption of Mount Vesuvius have been found in the ruins of the ancient Roman city of Pompeii. The skeletons, thought to belong to two men in their mid-50s, were found during excavations at the Insula dei Casti Amanti, or Insula of the Chaste Lovers, an area of Pompeii made up of a cluster of homes and a bakery. The well-preserved remains were found beneath a collapsed wall. Bone fractures indicate that the men probably died as a result of multiple injuries sustained as the building they sought refuge in caved in because of an earthquake that struck during the early stage of the volcanic eruption.

BEST OF THE WEB: FBI, DOJ's Trump-Russia 'collusion' probe was 'seriously flawed,' no basis in evidence when opened: Durham Signs of the Times

The FBI investigation of former President Donald Trump's alleged collusion with Russia in 2016 was "seriously flawed" and had no basis in evidence, special counsel John Durham said in a report released Monday. Durham concluded his four-year review with a scathing indictment of official bias in the probe, which fueled Pulitzer Prize-winning coverage of Trump's theorized conspiracy with the Kremlin to win the White House. "It is the Office's assessment that the FBI discounted or willfully ignored material information that did not support the narrative of a collusive relationship between Trump and Russia," Durham wrote. "Similarly, the FBI Inspection Division Report says that the investigators 'repeatedly ignore[d] or explain[ed] away evidence contrary to the theory the Trump campaign... had conspired with Russia... It appeared that ... there was a pattern of assuming nefarious intent,'" he added.

In recent weeks, the star has at times shone more than 50 percent brighter than normal, drawing renewed attention from amateur sky watchers and professional astronomers alike. These individuals hopefully await a historic celestial event. Someday, you see, Betelgeuse will explosively end its life in a supernova and from our planetary perch just 650 light-years away, we Earthlings will have front-row seats to this spectacular cosmic cataclysm. But does the current bout of brightening presage Betelgeuse blowing its top? And what would such a nearby supernova look...

Cancel culture and censorship reached such absurd levels that we started to see an exodus of high profile reporters (Matt Taibbi, Glenn Greenwald, et al) exiting corporate news outlets and setting up on their own, after they committed the sin of colouring outside the lines of establishment precepts (Taibbi and Greenwald having been arguably left-wing commentators, have now been designated "far right extremists").

In the two-decade-long legal battle, the locals said they were subjected to torture, sexual assault and physical abuse by Indonesian military officials contracted to provide security to the organisation. The case, brought against the company in 2001 by 11 villagers of Aceh province, was due to go on trial on 24 May in Washington. The amount of the settlement was not disclosed as it is confidential. "Our clients... bravely took on one of the largest and most profitable corporations in the world and stuck with the fight for more than 20 years," Agnieszka Fryszman, an attorney at Cohen Milstein, told AFP. "We are so pleased that now, on the eve of trial, we were able to secure a measure of justice for them and their families."

NATO creeping into Asia - North Korea Signs of the Times

North Korea's Foreign Ministry has claimed NATO is seeking to increase its influence in Asia, citing growing "military collusion" with Japan, which hosted a delegation from the military bloc last month to discuss ways to step up cooperation. In comments carried by the state-run Korean Central News Agency (KCNA) on Monday, an official with the Foreign Ministry's Japan Research Center, Kim Seol-hwa, said Washington is gradually pushing NATO into Asia through partnerships with regional powers. "It is an open secret that the United States... has been trying to create a military alliance like this in the Asia-Pacific region," he said, adding that the "recent unprecedented military collusion between Japan and NATO is arousing great concern and alertness in the international community." Kim went on to cite recent reports that NATO is now in talks to open a "liaison office" in Japan, its first such facility in Asia. The office would be used to "conduct periodic consultations with Japan and...

Market Talk May 16, 2023 Armstrong Economics

ASIA:

Chinas industrial output and retail sales growth in April fell short of expectations, indicating a loss of momentum in the economy at the beginning of the second quarter. This has increased pressure on policymakers to support the post-COVID recovery. The data also revealed a further decline in property investment, raising concerns about the outlook for the worlds second-largest economy. Industrial output grew by 5.6% compared to the previous year, lower than the anticipated 10.9% increase. However, it was the fastest growth rate since September 2022. Retail sales, on the other hand, increased by 18.4%, the highest since March 2021, but still lower than the expected 21.0% growth. These year-on-year figures were influenced by the strict lockdowns and restrictions imposed in major cities in April 2022 due to the pandemic, which severely impacted Chinas growth in the previous year.

The real reason why Tucker Carlson was fired has been revealed: report Signs of the Times

A new report claims that the settlement between Fox News and Dominion Voting Systems led to the Fox News decision to pull Tucker Carlson off the air. Dominion had sued Fox News over its coverage of claims about Dominion's equipment that were advanced in the aftermath of the 2020 presidential election. On Tuesday, April 18, just as the jury trial of the lawsuit was expected to begin, a $787.5 million settlement was announced. Less than a week later, on Monday, April 24, as he was preparing for his show that night, Carlson was informed his show had been canceled. Due to the timing, initial speculation linked the two events. According to a report in Variety, dumping Carlson was an unwritten promise from Fox News to Dominion.

Pepe Escobar: US empire of debt headed for collapse Signs of the Times

Prof. Michael Hudson's new book, The Collapse of Antiquity: Greece and Rome as Civilization's Oligarchic Turning Point is a seminal event in this Year of Living Dangerously when, to paraphrase Gramsci, the old geopolitical and geoeconomic order is dying and the new one is being born at breakneck speed. Prof. Hudson's main thesis is absolutely devastating: he sets out to prove that economic/financial practices in Ancient Greece and Rome - the pillars of Western Civilization - set the stage for what is happening today right in front of our eyes: an empire reduced to a rentier economy, collapsing from within. And that brings us to the common denominator in every single Western financial system: it's all about debt, inevitably growing by compound interest. Ay, there's the rub: before Greece and Rome, we had nearly 3,000 years of civilizations across West Asia doing exactly the opposite.

Dirty secrets Signs of the Times

"The average Democrat knows the Biden family is profoundly corrupt and they simply don't care.... Sam Harris spoke for all of them when he said it wouldn't matter if Hunter's laptop was packed w/pictures of dead kids." MartyrMade on Twitter This is the dirty secret of our time: the device that the Woke / Progressive elite used to finally get rid of Donald Trump Covid-19 shoved them over a cliff Wile E. Coyote style. And now, as they freefall off that cliff, the supposed antidote to Covid-19 getting vaccinated is blowing up in their faces, again, Wile E. Coyote style. The elite now have to wake up every day and wonder if the vaccines they rushed to get will end up killing them prematurely. This is what has finally driven them crazy. And, of course, crazy people will do crazy things: like destroy their own country. I decided early-on to not get vaccinated for a simple reason: as the vaxx program got up to speed in the late winter and spring of 2021, reports came out that...

Here's everything the FBI deliberately ignored to get Trump in Russian collusion hoax, according to Durham Signs of the Times

Durham uncovered several red flags that should have dissuaded the FBI from opening its 'seriously flawed' Crossfire Hurricane investigation... Special Counsel John Durham released a 306-page report on Monday detailing how Democrat operatives packaged and sold a lie to the all-too-believing Obama administration FBI that former President Donald Trump colluded with Russia to steal the 2016 election. For more than six years now, corrupt corporate media and Democrats have rallied around that allegation as evidence that Trump shouldn't hold office. But Durham's latest report, much like previous investigations into the Russian collusion hoax, once again found that there was no evidence of collusion from the beginning. Durham wrote in the opening pages of his bombshell report concluding three years of investigation. "Indeed, based on the evidence gathered in the multiple exhaustive and costly federal investigations of these matters, including the instant investigation, neither U.S. law...

Senator Hawley: Democrats "want the chaos" at the border Signs of the Times

Senator Josh Hawley urged Friday that the Biden administration is intending to "collapse the immigration system" on purpose and that "they want the chaos" at the border. "I think the plan is exactly what you're seeing, they want the chaos," Hawley told Fox News host Laura Ingraham, adding "The plan is to try to collapse our immigration system completely, collapse the courts collapse the asylum process, overrun the border." "That is the plan. That's what they want. They want the chaos," The Senator reiterated, adding "If you thought the fentanyl problem in this country is bad. You thought it was bad in my state, where it's the number one cause of death in the state of Missouri for young people. Just wait because they are about to turn it on full throttle." "The drugs that will come across this border, the crime that will come across this border, the danger to our families and our communities, it's going to be unlike anything we've ever seen in terms of border crossings in our...

John Brennan's closed-door hearing 'confirmed' Hunter laptop letter was 'all political': Jim Jordan Signs of the Times

House Judiciary Committee Chairman Jim Jordan, R-Ohio, told Fox News the testimony his panel heard in private from Obama-era CIA Director John Brennan "confirmed" the letter signed by 51 current and former intel officials was not on-the-level. "[Brennan] sat for a four-hour interview and he further confirmed that this thing was all political," Jordan said on Jesse Watters Primetime. Jordan recounted his allegation that then-Biden campaign adviser Antony Blinken was the "impetus" behind the letter, which he said was organized in-part by former CIA Deputy Director Michael Morell, who testified before the Judiciary Committee earlier in May. He also took issue with reaction from a member of his committee, Rep. Daniel Goldman, D-N.Y.

FBI's 'abuse of power': How bureau 'inflated domestic extremism' stats, prioritized January 6 defendants over child predators in bombshell hearing - three whistleblowers Signs of the Times

Three FBI officials will testify on alleged 'abuses of power' by FBI leadership - ranging from discrimination against conservatives to inflation of domestic terrorism statistics - during a public whistleblower hearing by the House Select Committee on the Weaponization of the Federal Government Thursday, DailyMail.com has learned exclusively. Rep. Jim Jordan, the top Republican on the House Judiciary Committee and head of the select committee, has secured the in-person testimony of suspended FBI special agents Garret O'Boyle and Steve Friend, as well as former FBI State Operations Specialist Marcus Allen. President of Empower Oversight Tristan Leavitt will also be testifying. The hearing is set to be held at 9 a.m. ET Thursday and will focus on the 'abuses of power' the former officials witnessed. They will be given the opportunity to detail how they have been 'retaliated' against by the FBI, according to a source familiar. O'Boyle and Friend participated in a closed door...

Ten critical observations at the onset of Kiev's NATO-backed counteroffensive Signs of the Times

Logistical problems and political fatigue in Europe could hamstring Kiev's counteroffensive, while Russia's risks involve the potentially destabilizing consequences of the Defense Ministry-Wagner Group rivalry continuing, independently existing defensive difficulties along the Line of Contact, and a reluctance to escalate. The NATO-Russian proxy war in Ukraine is reaching its most critical moment thus far as Kiev prepares to commence its counteroffensive, which is backed by that US-led military bloc. A breakthrough by either side could coerce the other into concessions ahead of the Chinese- (and possibly jointly French-)mediated ceasefire talks that are expected to begin by the end of the year. Likewise, a continued stalemate would probably result in freezing the existing months-long Line of Contact (LOC). Here are ten critical observations of everything from the West's and Russia's perspectives respectively: 1. NATO Acknowledges Its "Race Of Logistics"/"War Of Attrition" With...

The Illusion of consensus Signs of the Times

Science is the process by which we learn about the workings of material reality. Though modern innovations - built on the fruits of science - would look like magic to people living only decades ago, they result from the time-tested scientific method. Contrary perhaps to media portrayals of science, the scientific method depends not on the existence of a mythical consensus but rather on structured scientific debates. If there is a consensus, science challenges it with new hypotheses, experiments, logic, and critical thinking. Ironically, science advances because it believes it has never arrived; consensus is the hallmark of dead science. One of us is a college student with an unpremeditated career in alternative indie journalism. The other is a professor of health policy at Stanford University School of Medicine with an MD, a Ph.D. in economics, and decades of experience writing on infectious disease epidemiology. Despite the wealth of differences in our backgrounds and experiences,...

SOTT FOCUS: Ukraine's Future Lies in the Great Reset Signs of the Times

Elite plans for digital ID, Central Bank Digital Currencies (CBDCs) and a "Green" post-war economy proliferate in Ukraine as conflict rages, manifesting in Ukraine's Diia app, the e-hryvnia, a corporate takeover of Ukraine's war efforts and prospective reconstruction, and other efforts that signal a Fourth Industrial Revolution roll-out. Outlining these efforts and who's behind them, Stavroula Pabst argues that Ukraine's cannon-fodder status before and during NATO's proxy war makes it an ideal testing ground for the Great Reset. "Ukraine 2030 the freest and most digital country in the world. Without bureaucracy, but with strong tech industry. Cashless & paperless. This is the future we are building." - Mykhailo Fedorov These were the words of Ukraine's Minister of Digital Transformation Mykhailo Fedorov, who posted a glossy video showcasing Ukraine's sci-fi-esque future to Twitter. The video boasts of Ukraine's plans (after its victory over Russia, of course!) to become the...

Globalist cabal may be up against a conspiracy of saboteurs. The events could accelerate dramatically in the coming days... Then he travelled to Berlin where he signed the joint declaration between Germany and Ukraine and secured more financial and military help from the Chancellor Olaf Scholz's government. Zelensky then flew to Paris and on to London where he thanked profusely the United Kingdom for their leading role in helping and supporting his government: "Thank you very much for this package that you've prepared - great, huge... Really what can save the lives for all our people." The Pope called for peace and offered to mediate between Ukraine and Russia to bring the conflict to an end but Zelensky, who had signed a decree formally banning any Ukrainian talks with Kremlin leader Vladimir Putin, dismissed...

Ethiopia - Flooding continues in several regions, displacing thousands and threatening food security Signs of the Times

The United Nations reports that continued flooding in Ethiopia has caused widespread destruction and displacement in the regions of Somali, Oromia, SNNP (Southern Nations Nationalities and Peoples'), South West and Afar. Over 90 fatalities have lost their lives. In early April this year, the UN Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (UN OCHA) reported flooding and heavy rain affected or displaced around 240,000 people in Somali, Oromia and Afar regions from mid-March, with 29 fatalities reported. Flooding has worsened since then, causing significant damage and displacements. According to the latest UN report, around 190,000 households have been affected by flooding across the country, with over 200,000 people forced to leave their homes. The flooding has deepened the vulnerability of populations whose resilience is already highly affected by the impact of a prolonged drought since 2020 as the areas most affected by flooding and drought overlap, UN OCHA said.

The SpaceX CEO lashed out at the financier soon after it emerged that he had dumped his Tesla stock. Elon Musk used his Twitter platform to attack fundraiser George Soros on Tuesday, claiming that the prominent Democratic Party financier "hates humanity," and comparing him to comic-book super villain Magneto. In a tweet which has been viewed more than 20 million times, Musk wrote without explanation that "Soros reminds me of Magneto" - the mutant comic book anti-hero of the X-Men series. Musk elaborated on Soros when pressed by journalist Brian Krassenstein, claiming the Hungarian-American businessman was a frequent right-wing punching bag because some people object to his "good intentions" as "they disagree with his political affiliations."

He argued that oversensitive readers can always opt for something else. Rushdie addressed the issue on Monday evening while receiving the prestigious British Book Award for Freedom to Publish. The beer brand's decision comes in the wake of the ongoing Bud Light-Dylan Mulvaney controversy. Miller Lite, one of America's top-selling beers, has pulled down a controversial advert it published in March in honor of Women's History Month, after the video sparked a wave of backlash in recent days, with users accusing the brand of going 'woke.' The video, titled "Bad $#!T to Good $#!T," was originally posted on March 7 but had only recently gone viral. The ad vowed to clean up the brand's sexist past, which included ads featuring women dressed in bikinis, and promised to donate fertilizer to female brewers so that they can "grow quality hops."

Department of Defense Releases AOIMSG-Related Documents The Black Vault

The Department of Defense (DoD) has released multiple documents pertaining to the Airborne Object Identification and Management Synchronization Group (AOIMSG) under the Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) case 22-F-0249 with OSD/JS filed by The Black Vault. This development provides intriguing insights into the DoDs research into Unidentified Aerial Phenomena (UAP), and the processes surrounding the establishment and evolution of groups dedicated to this purpose within the Pentagon.

The AOIMSG was a specialized task force established by the Department of Defense (DoD) to investigate and manage Unidentified Aerial Phenomena (UAP) sightings and encounters. This groups primary function was to coordinate and synchronize efforts across various military and governmental departments to gather, analyze, and share information regarding UAP.

The spotlight of this release falls squarely on the OSD(PA) Briefing Cards related to the establishment of the AOIMSG. The unveiling of these briefing cards is a rare glimpse into the DoDs internal communications and strategies regarding the AOIMSG and its role in researching UAP. The Black Vault has also received numerous cards in the past, also shedding light on UAP research efforts.

Netanyahus Tactical Mistake: A Fragmented Israel Faces Palestinian Unity MintPress News

All Israeli wars on the Palestinians throughout the years have been promoted and justified by Tel Aviv in the name of security and fighting terrorism.

Israels biggest challenge throughout many of these wars was hardly the Palestinian Resistance, however steadfast and resilient. The challenge has always been Tel Avivs ability to kill many Palestinians, including civilians, without tarnishing its image internationally as an oasis of democracy and civilization.

Israel has been losing the public relations battle rapidly so, and now, it is losing a different kind of battle as well.

Throughout its 75-year-old history, from its violent birth on the ruins of historic Palestine in May 1948 up to its latest war on besieged Gaza on May 9, Israels history has been associated with violence.

Pro-Israel Western propaganda, along with masterful Israeli manipulation of facts and rewriting of history, allowed Israel to blame the violence on others: first, the Arabs who supposedly attacked Israel, unprovoked, time and again; then the Palestinian terrorists from all ideological colors, the socialists, the secularists and, as of late, the Islamic fundamentalists.

Alas, the Israeli hasbara worked, not because of its sheer genius but because of the near-total embargo on the Palestinian voice in all aspects of life. This embargo continues to this day and has extended to reach dominant social media platforms, leading amongst them, Facebook.

But the fight for the truth, intellectual integrity and freedom of speech continues, and Palestinian successes are now far greater than all attempts by Israel, its benefactors and supporters to censor, sideline or muffle the Palestinian voice.

The days of hiding Israeli crimes or blaming them on someone else seem to be over.

There are reasons why Israels propaganda is living its worst days. Aside from the power and influence commanded by Palestinian intellectuals, social media activists and the numerous platforms made available to them through innumerable solidarity networks around the world, Israeli hasbara has itself grown weak and unconvincing.

Israel is a fragmented society. While it is true that Israelis often unite during times of war, this time around, their unity is stale and unimpressive.

Exceptionism in US Empire Dissident Voice

[S]uffice it to state that the US Guardian Elite are very much of and for the overworld of private wealth. Since the end of World War II, the US Guardian Elite have functioned most decisively as executors of dark power.

Aaron Good, American Exception, p 107

Aaron Good, who received his PhD in political science at Temple University, has written an exceptional book: American Exception: Empire and the Deep State (Skyhorse, 2022). The title of the first chapter broadly lays out the thesis of the book: Empire, Hegemony, and the State.

Good develops two terms, exceptionism (institutionalized lawlessness) and the tripartite state (which includes the public state, security state, and the deep state), that he fleshes out throughout American Exception.

The author identifies the US as exceptionist in that it serially violates its own constitution. The United Nations Charter forbids warmaking and covert operations, and since the United States government has ratified the UN Charter it is legally applicable as per the US Constitution. Thus, the launching of wars and CIA cloak-and-dagger missions are in contravention of the US Constitution, adducing the exceptionism of the US.

Anti-communism, the boogeyman of the American establishment, used to serve as a pretext for US exceptionism, but as Good points out, with the fall of the Soviet Union this pretext has vanished. Since the military-industrial complex needs a boogeyman, the Global War on Terror, Russophobia, and the China Threat have been reified to keep the war machine cranking along for imperial hegemony, what Good defines as hegemony in the pursuit of empire. (p 15)

The US hegemon demands that all nation states, excluding itself, must adhere to the rules based order, which is not the same as the rule of law. In this rules based international order, elitists in the periphery benefit themselves by subordinating their nation states to the US hegemon.

The author asks, Can the CCP [Chinese Communist Party] manage and constrain these forces [of its billionaire class], or will Chinese elites inc...

Climate Breakdown, Extinction, and the Most Stupid Boast Dissident Voice

In a recent Guardian advert pleading for readers to hand over money to the paper, leading columnist Marina Hyde declared: My absolute favourite thing about the Guardian is not being told what to write.

Hyde or Marina Elizabeth Catherine Dudley-Williams, as she prefers not to be known was, in fact, making the most stupid boast that could be made by a journalist, to quote George Seldes (1890-1995), the US press critic. He was scornful of journalists who proclaimed: I have never been given orders; I am free to do as I like.

Likewise, the American political writer Michael Parenti once noted:

You say what you like, because they like what you say. you dont know youre wearing a leash if you sit by the peg all day.

Or, as Noam Chomsky told a young, befuddled Andrew Marr:

Im not saying youre self-censoring. Im sure you believe everything you say. But what Im saying is if you believed something different you wouldnt be sitting where youre sitting.

Journalists are filtered by the elite-serving propaganda system such that difficult, crusading, awkward, firebrand reporters are usually identified and stifled from clambering beyond a few lowly rungs of...

A straphanger who was on the subway when former Marine Daniel Penny placed Jordan Neely in a fatal chokehold said Thursday she's "praying" for Penny after it was revealed the 24-year-old would face charges tied to the high-profile case. "I hope he has a great lawyer, and I'm praying for him," the 66-year-old woman, who did not want to be identified, told The Post Thursday night. "And I pray that he gets treated fairly, I really do. Because after all of this ensued, I went back and made sure that I said 'Thank you' to him." The Manhattan District Attorney's Office confirmed Thursday afternoon Penny would be charged with second-degree manslaughter.

The US is No Democracy! Dissident Voice

I just love it when all the media political pundits and talk show hosts ( News Talk?) throw out that word Democracy. You dont have to go to a ranch to find more bull excrement than that. Folks, this is not a democracy and probably never was one, all the way back to our founding. Why? MONEY MONEY MONEY is the answer. As long as the masters of our republic keep allowing private money into electoral politics you will continue to smell that bull excrement period!

The Open Secrets site follows the flow of money in political campaigns. After reading the enclosed data you may see why so many of our fellow citizens do not even bother to vote. Not good to do, but here is why, according to 2022 figures:

The average House of Representatives winner spent upwards close to $ 3 million. The loser spent on average around $800k.

The average Senate winner spent over $26 million. The loser spent around 1/2 of that ($13 million)

In my state of Florida DeSantis spent around $200 million. Democrat Charlie Crist spent $31 million, and people wonder why there was such a LANDSLIDE.

In 2022, 384 incumbents ran for re-election in the House 359 won!!

In 2022, 28 incumbents ran for re-election in the Senate 28 won!

If Claude Rains from the film Casablanca was monitoring things for our elections he would have said: I am shocked! There is massive spending going on here!

Statewide and local citywide races are not really different. If someone wishes to run for just about any elected office, where they allow party affiliations, if you are not from one of the Two Party/One Party gangs, then forget it buster! Oh yes, the only exclusion is for someone to be super duper wealthy enough to spend his or her own money to equal that of the other two gangsters. Or have some very very rich friends. If you cannot get your name and ideas out to the general public with an equally massive staff and volunteers. No way Jose! Money talks and everyone else walks! Is that what we want, super rich people being the only ones outside of the Two Party/One Party scam to win office?

In 1997, this writer was living in Indianapolis, Indiana. I was active in street protests against the empire, on both foreign and domestic issues. I was also a writer for a progressive weekly and was lucky to interview attorney Ed Garvey from Wisconsin. He was travelling the nation promoting the just passed Maine Clean Election Laws. In Maine, they actually were able to legislate some form of public funding of statewide elections. Candidates could decide to forego accepting private donations and rely on the small amounts of public funding for their campaigns. Obviously, their Republican and Democrat competitors would still outspend them...

Hyping Chinas Overseas Police Stations, Canada Gravely Infected by US Virus of Smearing China Dissident Voice

Canadas choice Illustration: Tang Tengfei/GT

When Canadian Public Safety Minister Marco Mendicino attempted to hype up the so-called Chinas overseas police stations, one word stood out could. Mendicino concedes there could be new Chinese police stations in Canada, the countrys CTV News reported on Sunday.

The first paragraph of the article is filled with similar expressions, such as there may be new Chinese police stations and Royal Canadian Mounted Police will close any new sites if they do exist.

The real story should be why this speculation without evidence became a news story in the first place.

In April, the US arrested two Chinese Americans, accusing them of operating a secret police station, attempting to label China as engaging in illegal extraterritorial law enforcement and undermining the sovereignty of other countries. After that, the Canadian government was demanded to follow suit and take more proactive actions against such stations, Deutsche Welle reported on Monday.

Canada now shows its obedience. However, when it makes audacious slander against China based solely on vague information, it is making a fool of itself pretending to be serious in dealing with a national security threat yet with nothing more than junky information at hand.

China has repeatedly clarified, as Wang Wenbin, Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesperson, said again on Monday, there is no so-called overseas police stations. The relevant institutions helped overseas Chinese who could not return to China due to the pandemic renew their driving licence and perform physical examination. They are not so-called police stations or police service centers at all. The local Chinese groups who helped provide venues for the services and the volunteers are Chinese from the local communities who are willing to help their compatriots, not Chinese police personnel. In light of the evolving COVID situation and relevant services now available online, the relevant service centers have been closed. China always upholds the principle of non-interference in other countries inter...

Forbes magazine reports the controversial production has not just garnered the lowest audience score in Netflix history on debut, it has essentially the lowest audience score possible on Rotten Tomatoes at one percent. Not a 10 percent. A one percent, although Forbes reports it has later stumbled upwards to hit the giddy heights of two percent.

West Failed to Depose Erdogan Despite Openly Backing Opposition Dissident Voice

Although Recep Tayyip Erdogans victory in the second round of the presidential election in Turkey is almost assured ahead of the second round of votes, opposition leader Kemal Kilicdaroglu, in case of victory, would alter the countrys foreign policy and put the relationship with Russia into a framework that is acceptable to the US. The question surrounding Kilicdaroglu is whether he would introduce sanctions against Russia or turn Turkey away from its newfound independent foreign policy.

Turkey is heading to the second round of the election after Erdogan achieved a better-than-expected result in the polls and has a significant lead over his rival, but not enough to win in the first round. Neither Erdogan nor the opposition candidate received 50 per cent and will face off again on May 28.

The second round was expected, but Erdogan still surprised everyone by achieving a figure of nearly 50 per cent, precisely 49.51% against Kilidaroglus 44.88%. Erdogan gained much more than the polls gave him credit for. Still, the pollsters often fail, especially in Turkey, because they do not include many groups of people, such as the diaspora, those who work in the state bureaucracy, nationalists, young people, and pensioners.

American President Joseph Biden did not influence the elections in Turkey, this to the disappointment of the entire West who openly expressed dissatisfaction with Erdogans increasingly independent foreign policy. Erdogan is responsible for transforming Turkey from Kemalist ideology to a more Islamist one, and one not entirely beholden to the West, as has been the situation since the country became a NATO member in 1952.

Erdogans candidate rival has received much adulation from the West, which is constantly growing and will probably be connected to the constant effort to compromise Russia as an international actor. The current Turkish president never questioned the countrys membership in NATO because he did not want Turkey to be just a regular member of the Alliance but rather a partner with independent interests that must be respected. This will characterise Ankaras relations with the West even if Kemal Kilicdaroglu eventually prevails.

Kilicdaroglus statements about lo...

Assassinating Vladimir Putin? Signs of the Times

Early on the morning of May 3rd the Kremlin was attacked by two explosive drones, and although these were destroyed by the defenses, the Russian government claimed that the incident had probably been an assassination attempt against President Vladimir Putin. I was skeptical at the time, but when Ray McGovern was interviewed a few days later he seemed to take the accusation seriously. Given his 27 years as a CIA Analyst, including serving as head of the Soviet Policy Group, I tend to trust his judgment on such matters:

The US Supreme Court Corruption Bonanza Dissident Voice

When ProPublicas investigation into links between Republican donor Harlan Crow and the US Supreme Court surfaced, there was a sense that dark waters lurked beneath the revelations. While Justice Clarence Thomas featured prominently as the recipient of largesse and pomp from Crow island hopping in Indonesia, private jet travel, among other treats things were bound to get worse.

At the time of the unveiling of such ignominious conduct, Thomas did not heed the wise injunction of Lord Acton to avoid too much explaining lest the excuses become too many. His hand caught in the till, Thomas dismissed such generosity as mere hospitality, a point reiterated in a statement from Crow. Besides, he had been advised by his fellow brethren troublingly so that he could accept such gifts of hospitality without fear of conflict and compromise. The clincher here: that Crow did not have any business before the court.

The Thomas-Crow relationship has had a decent pickling, stretching back a good number of years. In 2011, Crow lavished $500,000 upon Thomas wife to form a Tea Party Group. Thomas also received a $19,000 Bible said to belong to Frederick Douglass. In rather smelly fashion odorous, that is, in the links between think-tank land, wealth and policy Thomas received a $15,000 gift from the American Enterprise Institute (AEI), with Crow serving on the board at the time. More recently, it has also been revealed that Crows generosity extended to funding the private school education of Thomass grandnephew to the sum of $6,000 a month.

The pong becomes a full raging stench with the realisation that the AEI filed three briefs with the Supreme Court soon after giving Thomas the gift, with all rulings being decided in their favour. While influence should not be confused with association, the appearance of conflict would be fatal to even the most disciplined of judicial minds.

The link with Crow becomes even more taut with revelations from ThinkProgress in 2011 about the legal successes of the Crow-affiliated group, Center for the Community Interest, at...

Bear attack on angler suspected after human head found at Japan lake Signs of the Times

Police are searching for an angler who went missing at a lake in Hokkaido, suspecting he may have been attacked by a bear after a human head was found in the area Monday, they said. According to the police, a boat dropped off Toshihiro Nishikawa, 54, to fish unaccompanied at a spot on Lake Shumarinai in Horokanai early Sunday. An employee of the boat operator later saw a bear nearby with waders dangling from its mouth and attempted to call Nishikawa by phone, but could not reach him. The information prompted the town office to launch a bear hunt operation and a member of the group killed one Monday afternoon, according to a town official.

How Truman's America Re-Nazified Germany Signs of the Times

The first (original) Nazi Party was in Germany, but the ideology, of imperialistic racist fascism (the lower-case "nazism" ideology, instead of just the original, upper-case "N" Nazi Party that was an example of it) can be in any country. German racist-fascism or Nazism was organized by Hitler as anti-Jewish, anti-communist, and for a Thousand-Year Reich in which "Aryans" or purebred descendants of Adam and Eve in Genesis 3, would have control over the entire world, and there would be no descendants from the snake (Satan) in Genesis 3, which Hitler believed Jews to be. The Slavic peoples in the Soviet Union would become enslaved to Aryans, and that land would be the main breeding ground or "Lebensraum" to expand the numbers of Aryans so that they could achieve further conquests, and he thought that the most difficult country for Germany to defeat would be America but, that he and his fascist allies would first need to defeat all of Eurasia. Then, he would take on America. That...

What is the life expectancy of the Empire State Building? Terra Forming Terra

We are so used to seeing weathered ruins, that we forget that maintenance is all about protection.  So yes, and particularly concrete based post and slab constructure can last forever.

In fact, the slab has replaced outright land as a store of real estate value.  After all, it is no trick to do in and gut a suite  or floor and then redo the works to the most modern standards.

This is now a global standard and all those crumbling areas will ultimately be cleaned out and replaced with condo builds akong with parks.

The surprise is just how potentially permanent it all can be.  we now preserve antique facades in order to sustain street views.  Pretty matters today..

It is not the great barrier reef, but it can expand over centuries from a modest base and evenbe augmented as well .with retired shipping..

Is it possible that the CCP is now manipulating our currency decisions through bribery against our interests?

The reason that I ask is because the decisson making process itself has always been opaque and then explained with public relations.  If you trust any of that, youare crazy, yet we have tolerated it forever because not much actually happened and until Reagan the politicians typically interferred for election purposes.

We have been watching the Supreme Court like a hawk, but have totally forgot about this.  Perhaps written decissions are needed here.

Near-Death-Experiences Of The Ancients Terra Forming Terra

I bring this up because I had seen no such report before.  Of course these were very rare in the past, but are now common enough because medical intervention makes it possible.

quite a tale and reflects then expectations. recall hades was an actual physical construct near Etna long after all this.  We have also had reports without the death aspect.  Swedenborg in particular experienced a cityscape like what he lived in and met former contemporaries there.  It is clear that we take our visual expectations with us which are then modified with contact with our spirit guides.

It helps to know that the other side is physical and without death.  We come into our present to experience. and all of a sudden it matters little except to learn from experience.  This means we deeply influence the other side. it is not a one way street.  .

Near-Death-Experiences Of The Ancients

MAY 2023

By jim willis

Socrates, Plato and Aristotle formed a trio toward the middle of the fourth century BC in ancient Greece to become the most well-known philosophers who ever lived. They were the founders of the present-day discipline. Any philosophers who lived before them are called pre-Socratics. Most people, even if they know nothing about the field of philosophy, recognize the names of Socrates, his pupil Plato, and Platos pupil, Aristotle, who went on to become the private tutor of Alexander the Great.

Er the Pamphylian

In Platos Republic, he mentions a speech by Socrates, in which Socrates remembers the near-death experience of a warrior bold who went by the name of Er the Pamphylian.  According to Socrates, Er was killed in battle. Tradition has it that his body was placed on a funeral pyre after a period of some 12 days. Before the fires were lit, howe...

Trump tears into 'treacherous charade' of Russian collusion probe - and calls for Hillary, James Comey and the Democrats to 'pay a heavy price' for Durham report that's sparked 'public anger' at a 'level I have not seen' | 15 May 2023 | Donald Trump has lashed out at ex-FBI Director James Comey after a new report concluded his probe into alleged Russian collusion should never have been opened. The former president, who has long decried that investigation as a "witch hunt," said in an interview with Fox News Digital that those officials should be held accountable. "I, and much more importantly, then American public have been victims of this long-running and treasonous charade started by the Democrats -- started by Comey," the 76-year-old real estate mogul said. "Public anger over this report is at a level that I have not seen before...there must be a heavy price to pay for putting our country through this," he added. Trump, who is the runaway favorite for Republican presidential nomination, later hit out at the FBI once more on his Truth Social platform. "WOW! After extensive research, Special Counsel John Durham concludes the FBI never should have launched the Trump-Russia Probe!" Trump said.

Matt Gaetz suggested FBI agents should be fired and prosecuted over the Durham report, which concluded the Bureau should never have launched the probe into whether Donald Trump colluded with Russia to win the 2016 election. Gaetz said the agency should be defunded and "defanged," describing the agents' actions as "ugly," after Durham ruled there was insufficient evidence to probe Trump in the first place. The Florida lawmaker said John Durham's recommendation that only one person - a lawyer who lied to the FBI - be charged with wrongdoing was "insufficient." "This report is an insufficient consequence for the malfeasance and corruption that we have seen here," Gaetz said. "It was an operation from beginning to end to fuse political opposition research from the DNC and the Clinton campaign with this intelligence process and criminal process. And it's a sad day in America. If that had been a Republican operation - an operation to help a Republican candidate - it wouldn't have ended in a report: it would have ended with real significant indictments."

Parliamentary staff urged to police pronouns and 'identify transphobia' Signs of the Times

Parliamentary staff have been urged to police gender pronouns and report "negative behaviours", The Telegraph has learnt. The UK Parliament authorities have drawn up gender-identity guidance for hundreds of civil servants working in administrative roles in the House of Commons and Lords, which has been circulated internally for the last three years. One section of the 15-page guide warns that staff should "learn to identify what transphobic behaviour looks like and understand that these must be met with an attitude of zero-tolerance". It lists examples including "another colleague refusing to use a trans person's preferred pronouns or names", adding that this "should be dealt with in an appropriate manner". The pamphlet, obtained by The Telegraph, has been criticised by campaigners and a senior MP as "concerning" and "compelled belief".

IPCC admits many of its gloomy climate forecasts are of "low likelihood" Signs of the Times

The credibility of the disaster-addicted Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) has been dealt a damaging blow with recently-published research showing that 42% of its climate scenarios rely on improbable rises in future temperature that even the UN-funded body believes are of "low likelihood". The research notes the IPCC admission of improbability is "deeply buried" in the full Sixth Assessment Reports (AR6), and is "unlikely to be read by the policy makers". The authors note that significant and important sections of the full IPCC work emphasise these improbable claims, "potentially invalidating those sections of the report". Climate and emissions outline SSP5-8.5 assumes a rise of around 5C by the end of the century. It was always somewhat detached from reality and has long been dealt a death blow, given that global warming ran out of steam about 25 years ago. Flesh-eating zombie drug 'tranq' takes over LA streets as users with rotting skin are seen Signs of the Times

Los Angeles officials are trying to stop the spread of the flesh-eating drug xylazine that has taken over the city. The 'zombie drug', a veterinary tranquilizer approved in the US for cows and horses, is now flooding the illicit US drug market, with dealers often cutting it with cocaine and heroin. But it is most often used to cut fentanyl, the lethally potent synthetic opioid that already kills tens of thousands of Americans every year. The drug has spread to Los Angeles of late, with news crews capturing people hunched over and on the ground, strung out on the drug. The problem, Los Angeles County Sheriff's officials say, is that the drug is technically a legal substance. The county is now desperately trying to track xylazine's presence throughout the city, according to KTLA.

Zelensky: Ukraine Will Win War before 2024 US Elections Armstrong Economics

I have said it countless times the only way they will keep Biden in power is to enter the war. The US and all NATO nations have already unofficially entered the war by supplying soldiers and a blank check to Ukraine and attempting to nuke Russias economy by removing it from SWIFT and placing outrageous sanctions on individual citizens. Now, Zelensky is saying he believes Ukraine will achieve victory before the 2024 US Presidential Elections.

No one is going to win this war. Neither side can back down now without a full-scale global conflict. The US will likely officially enter the war before the 2024 US Presidential Election. Zelensky confidently stated that regardless of who wins our independent election, the leader of the free world (allegedly) will still support the war in Ukraine. Hes right! There are neocons on both sides of the aisle and no one will permit Trump to win even if the people elect him.

During Trumps town hall meeting, the first-time people actually tuned in to CNN, he said that deaths on both sides could have been prevented. Everyone is talking about strategy and winning as if we are playing Battleship. Mothers are losing their sons every day, and human nature never changes. The Ukrainian mother mourns her son the same as the Russian mother, and neither had a say in this completely preventable conflict. DeSantis has also said that backing Ukraine is not a priority for the US. We cannot prioritize intervention in an escalating foreign war over the defense of our own homeland, DeSantis declared.

Trump ruffled feathers in Europe as president. He warned Germany that they were too dependent on Russian energy, and they laughed in his face. He threatened to exit NATO is other nations failed to pay their fair share. Pasta Prices Soar 20% in Italy The Return of the Pasta Cartel? Armstrong Economics

(image above represents shrinkflation an additional burden to consumers)

Italys Industry Minister Adolfo Urso called for an emergency meeting to discuss the sharp uptick in food prices. Pasta alone is up nearly 20%, and this is a major problem in a country where 60% of residents report eating this item daily. Some provinces are seeing a 58% increase in this staple item. Siena, Tuscany, reported pasta rising from $1.50 a kilo to $2.37 a kilo within in a year. The European Central Bank stated that inflation reached 8.1% in March, so what is driving these food prices?

Some may point to wheat, the main ingredient, as the recent usurping of farmland and the Ukraine war had an impact on prices. However, wheat prices have actually declined in recent months. Durum wheat is down 30% since May of last year. The only other ingredient required to make pasta is water.

Coldiretti, Italys biggest farmers association, said that farmers are not seeing an uptick in revenue and are struggling to make ends meet. There is no justification for the increases other than pure speculation on the part of the large food groups who also want to supplement their budgets with extra profits, Assoutenti president Furio Truzzi told the Washington Post. Yet, food manufacturers are claiming that this spike in pasta costs in temporary and a result of pasta produced during the beginning of the Ukraine war and energy crisis.

This is not the first time that Italy has seen a rise in food prices. Italian authorities raised 26 pasta manufacturers in 2009 and fined the industry 12.5 million euros for creating what Reuters described as a pasta cartel. Around 90% of pasta makers in the country were in on the price gouging scheme that operated from May 2006 until May 2008, during which pasta prices rose 51.8% for retailers and 26% for consumers. Barilla, the largest pasta producer at the time, received the largest fine of 5.7 million euros.

Food inflation is a major problem across the world. In Italy, ...

Biden Nominates First Hispanic Woman to Fed Board Who is She? Armstrong Economics

The headlines praise Biden for nominating the first Latina woman to the Federal Reserves board. None of the current headlines list her qualifications, which is a given since this administration favors diversity over experience. I, for one, would like to know more about the people being placed in positions of power since their nationality has no relation to their responsibilities. Yet Sen. Robert Menendez (D, NJ) continually criticized the Fed for not having any Latino members. Let us look into Adriana Kugler, who may become very influential in the financial world.

Kugler, 53, was an executive director for the World Bank. She earned a Bachelor of Arts from McGill University in 1991, graduating with first-class honors in economics and political science. She was awarded her Ph.D. in Economics by the University of California at Berkeley in 1997. She worked as the chief economist for the Labor Department under Obama from September 2011 to January 2013 as well.

A recent article from the Wall Street Journal actually shines some light on Kugler and her policies. The picture they used of her was taken at a World Economic Forum event. She fought for the US government to provide families with $26,400 in funding during the pandemic and proposed three separate pilot programs to raise unemployment benefits. For every one dollar that we put into the pockets of the unemployed working Americans, two dollars ripple throughout the economy, and its actually a win-winit helps everybody, she said. Well, that line is troublesome for obvious reasons since inflation should be the top priority for the Fed.

She is a proponent of closing the wage gap and eliminating income inequality. She penned an article about ...

Kias strange rebrand is part of a long and varied logo history Fast Company

Since its days as a bike manufacturer Kia has taken a curious approach to logos.

Historically, Kia has been a visually quiet brand. It doesnt typically generate media attention for its design and marketing choices, unless, of course, it was for those now iconic hamster commercials for the Kia Soul that ran ceaselessly in the late 2000s. That all changed in 2021, when the company revealed its new logo, which transformed Kias traditional wordmark of three clearly defined letters into an angular glyph kerned so tightly that it looks more like a KN than a K-I-A.

Power plants may soon go all in on carbon capture. But does it actually work? Fast Company

The EPAs new proposed rules will require U.S. power plants to slash pollution. But experts are divided on whether carbon capture is the answer.

In a remote field in Saskatchewan, not far from the border with North Dakota, the Boundary Dam coal power plant sends its exhaust into a massive system of pipes and tanks that absorb CO2 and then compress the gas so it can be shipped off to a nearby oil producer for injection underground. The carbon capture system, which cost more than $1 billion to build, first started running nine years ago. Its currently the only large-scale facility of its kind in use at a power plant anywhere in the world.

Durham Report: FBI Should Never Have Begun 'Russia Collusion' Investigation CLG News

Durham Report: FBI Should Never Have Begun 'Russia Collusion' Investigation | 15 May 2023 | The long-awaited report by Special Counsel John Durham tasked to look into the FBI's investigation of the Trump campaign for Russian collusion was released Monday, concluding that the FBI should have never launched an investigation into the Trump campaign. Durham's 300-page report found a damning conclusion: "Based on the review of Crossfire Hurricane and related intelligence activities, we conclude that the Department and the FBI failed to uphold their important mission of strict fidelity to the law in connection with certain events and activities described in this report. Our investigation also revealed that senior FBI personnel displayed a serious lack of analytical rigor towards the information that they received, especially information received from politically affiliated persons and entities," Durham's report said, in apparent reference to the Hillary Clinton campaign-funded Fusion GPS [phony] dossier alleging collusion that the FBI relied on to investigate Trump.

Scott Ritter: Ukraine's 'counteroffensive' - myth or reality? Signs of the Times

As we approach mid-May, the question on everyone's mind is "where is the big Ukrainian counteroffensive"? This much-touted event has been percolating in the western mainstream media and social media channels since the Fall of 2022, when the commanding general of the Ukrainian armed forces, Valeri Zaluzhnyi, informed the US and NATO-led Ukraine Contact Group during a meeting in Ramstein, Germany, about the shopping list of military equipment Ukraine would need to carry out a successful offensive operation designed to expel Russian troops from Ukrainian soil. Since that time, the collective West has been working overtime to provide much of this material support, along with the training necessary for Ukrainian troops to employ it using standard NATO combined arms offensive operational and tactical doctrine. Jens Stoltenberg, the NATO Secretary General, announced in late April 2023 that NATO had delivered more than 98% of the equipment promised to Ukraine last fall, including more than...

Migrants to be housed in 6 more NYC school gyms - outraged parents say plan is 'just insane' | 15 May 2023 | At least six more Big Apple schools are set to start temporarily housing migrants [illegal aliens] in their gyms, prompting all hell to break loose Monday among parents frantic over safety and potential learning disruptions. "To bus people to our school and expect the community to absorb them is just insane," fumed Virginia Vu, a PTA member and parent at Brooklyn's MS 577 in Williamsburg -- adding some parents have already threatened to at least temporarily pull their kids out of the sixth-through-eighth grade school... MS 577 shares a gym with PS 17 -- one of five Brooklyn elementary schools to soon have asylum-seekers living out of their gymnasiums, too, as New York City struggles to cope with the surging migrant crisis, sources told The Post. The other targeted elementary schools are PS 18 and PS 132, both in Williamsburg, PS 172 in Sunset Park and PS 189 near Prospect-Lefferts Gardens. PS 17, 18, 132 and 172 all house kindergarten through fifth-grade, while PS 189 goes from kindergarten through eighth grade. PS 17 and MS 577 were preparing to host busloads of migrants -- potentially single male adults -- starting as early as Tuesday, parents said.

Nearly two decades ago, a young Mark Zuckerberg launched a social media platform that was, as he described it, less a company and more a social mission designed to get everyone in the world connected.  Lawmakers seemed to buy into this sunny vision, doing little to regulate the company even as it grew from a small college database to a global conglomerate with nearly 3 billion users. Now, Zuckerbergs social mission is a breeding ground for hate and disinformation, a vessel for foreign actors to manipulate elections, and infrastructure that fomented a violent insurrection against the U.S. government.

Santorini is still an active volcano, scientists remind tourists Signs of the Times

Known as one of Greece's most famous tourist destination islands, Santorini's unique beauty was, as many know, the result of the eruption of an ancient volcano one that is still alive to this day, as scientists remind us. In a CNN profile, scientists studying the volcano noted that although it hasn't erupted for hundreds of years, it is by no means dead. "If we start seeing increased activity in Kolumbo then we need to be alert," Tim Druitt, volcanologist and expedition co-chief of the deep drilling research vessel JOIDES Resolution, which visited Santorini for the first time late last year, told CNN. Capable of drilling up to 26,000 feet below the surface of the Aegean Sea, the researchers collected sediments that hadn't yet been uncovered as they attempted to scientifically piece together the region's storied volcanic history.

US splurges $1 billion on Russian uranium despite sanctions war Signs of the Times

Before the escalation of the long-running Donbass crisis into a full-blown Russia-NATO proxy war in Ukraine last year, America's nuclear power plants depended on Russia, Kazakhstan and Uzbekistan for nearly half of their enriched uranium. Well over a year into the conflict, Washington has apparently failed to find alternatives. The Biden administration's failed quest to sanction the Russian economy into oblivion throughout the past year has included one massive exception this whole time - with the US continuing to buy Russian-sourced enriched uranium for use in nuclear power plants like there's no tomorrow. According to calculations by US business media, American companies purchased roughly $1 billion worth of Russian enriched uranium over the past year. Industry experts attribute the continued buy up of the key capabilities, with Russian nuclear giant Rosatom continuing to account for about a quarter of all enriched...

FBI Audit Reveals 8,000 Unjustified Searches of Americans' Communications CLG News

FBI Audit Reveals 8,000 Unjustified Searches of Americans' Communications | 15 May 2023 | The FBI conducted thousands of queries on digital data collected on U.S. citizens in 2021 and 2022 despite having no warrant and no justification under the FBI's own rules, according to an internal report released on May 10. The audit, conducted by the FBI Office of Internal Auditing (OIA), was intended to examine the agency's compliance with rules for querying data the government routinely collects on U.S. citizens under Section 702 of the Foreign Intelligence Surveillance Act of 1978 (FISA). FISA allows the government to collect electronic data, including phone calls, text messages, and emails of foreigners overseas, even if the communications involve a U.S. citizen. U.S. agencies can then search that data in connection with national security investigations.

Astronomers observe the first radiation belt seen outside of our solar system Signs of the Times

High-resolution imaging of radio emissions from an ultracool dwarf show a double-lobed structure like the radiation belts of Jupiter. Astronomers have described the first radiation belt observed outside our solar system, using a coordinated array of 39 radio dishes from Hawaii to Germany to obtain high-resolution images. The images of persistent, intense radio emissions from an ultracool dwarf reveal the presence of a cloud of high-energy electrons trapped in the object's powerful magnetic field, forming a double-lobed structure analogous to radio images of Jupiter's radiation belts. "We are actually imaging the magnetosphere of our target by observing the radio-emitting plasma its radiation belt in the magnetosphere. That has never been done before for something the size of a gas giant planet outside of our solar system," said Melodie Kao, a postdoctoral fellow at UC Santa Cruz and first author of a paper on the new findings published May 15 in Nature. Project Blue Book: The Chiles-Whitted UFO Encounter, July 24, 1948, Montgomery, Alabama The Black Vault

On July 24, 1948, an event occurred that would not only change the lives of two experienced airline pilots but also play a critical role in shaping the unfolding UFO phenomena in the United States. The Chiles-Whitted UFO encounter, near Montgomery, Alabama, remains one of the most significant and controversial UFO sightings in history. After extensive investigation by Project Blue Book, the U.S. Air Forces long-running official inquiry into unidentified flying objects, the incident was labeled as unexplained. It was later argued many years later the object was a meteor, however, many remain unconvinced to this day.

The Encounter

The witnesses to this event were two experienced commercial pilots, Clarence S. Chiles and John B. Whitted. On that fateful night, they were piloting an Eastern Airlines Douglas DC-3 passenger plane from Houston to Atlanta. At approximately 2:45 a.m., while cruising at about 5,000 feet near Montgomery, Alabama, they reported seeing a bright light in the distance.

As the light drew closer, it became clear to the pilots that this was not an ordinary aircraft. They described...

Today is 75 Years of the Nakba Dissident Voice

Today we mark the 75th anniversary of the Palestinian Nakba (catastrophe in Arabic), the expulsion, destruction, and ethnic cleansing of Palestine associated with the creation of Israel in 1948. The Nakba is a process that has never ended. Today, CJPME stands in solidarity with the Palestinian people in Canada and around the world and reaffirms its support for the fundamental and inalienable right of Palestinian refugees to return to the country that they were forced to leave behind.

Between 1947 and 1949, during the creation of Israel, a minimum of 700,000 Palestinians were forcibly expelled from their homes by Jewish militias. The flight of refugees was accelerated by a series of massacres conducted by Jewish terrorists, including the massacre of over 100 men, women, and children in the village of Deir Yassin one month before Israel declared Independence. Over 13,000 Palestinians were killed in this period. As a result of the Nakba, there are today more than 7 million Palestinian refugees, including Nakba survivors and their descendants, who are living in refugee camps or in exile.

With the people removed from Palestine, Israeli forces demolished more than 500 Palestinian villages and built Israeli parks and forests over the ruins. In a massive act of theft, Israel enacted laws to expropriate refugees property, and stole approximately 4,244,776 acres of Palestinian land. To make sure that this injustice would be permanent, Israel passed laws banning Palestinian refugees from returning to their homes.

This is not simply a historical tragedy. Understanding the Nakba is essential to understanding the character of the State of Israel today. Israels removal of the indigenous population allowed it to claim that it has a Jewish demography majority in the 1948 territories, which feeds the myth that Israel is a Jewish and democratic state today. Israels racist policies against refugees are an impor...

Erdogan has learned from bitter experience to play hard ball with European capitals The Economist has surpassed itself in its clearly expressed hatred for an elected head of state, Recep Tayyip Erdogan. "Most important, in an era when strongman rule is on the rise, from Hungary to India, the peaceful ejection of Mr Erdogan would show democrats everywhere that strongmen can be beaten," it opines. A number of professional football players in France have drawn the ire of the nation's sports ministry for refusing to take part in an annual league-wide anti-homophobia campaign, French media have reported. However, players from several clubs, including Toulouse FC's Zakaria Aboukhlal and Nantes' Mostafa Mohamed, were omitted from the roster after they refused to wear the jerseys. Aboukhlal, who is Moroccan, wrote on social media that he "made the decision not to take part in the match" over the weekend and noted that he had "the highest regard for each individual, without judging their personal preferences, gender, religion, or background. Pentagon doesn't vet proxy fighters over possible rape and torture histories - NYT Signs of the Times

American special forces have trained up foreign proxy fighters and sent them on 'kill-or-capture' missions without ascertaining whether they have histories of rape, torture, extrajudicial killings, or other human rights abuses, the New York Times reported on Sunday, citing newly disclosed Pentagon documents. Such surrogates are paid, equipped, and deployed without any vetting required to verify that they have a clean human rights record, according to documents obtained by the NYT. The 'gap in rules' applies to proxy forces hired to carry out counterterrorism missions, as well as allied forces who are trained under an irregular warfare program designed to help countries that are at risk of invasion by larger neighbors. One such clandestine mission in Ukraine was allegedly terminated just before Moscow launched its military operation against Kiev's forces in February 2022, but some officials reportedly wish to restart it, according to a Washington Post report earlier this year.

Japanese protesters call for US military to be evicted Signs of the Times

Thousands of Japanese protesters assembled near Kadena Air Base in Okinawa to protest the US occupation of the island on Saturday, on the 51st anniversary of the island returning to Japanese control. The annual demonstration comes amid rising regional tensions as the US supplies Taiwan with weapons in what China views as open provocation. Chanting slogans including "Give us back our peaceful life" and "Osprey get out," the latter being a reference to US military helicopters, the demonstrators demanded the closure of the US' Okinawa bases. The island's inhabitants are weary of the pollution - both chemical and aural - produced by Washington's military outposts, as well as the high number of crimes committed by American servicemembers, from petty theft and drunk driving to rape and murder. Governor Denny Tamaki has urged the Japanese and US governments to reduce the Pentagon's footprint on the island, which hosts 70% of all US military facilities in Japan despite comprising just 1%...

The Philippines has staked its claim to a disputed area of the South China Sea by placing navigational buoys around the Spratly Islands, challenging Beijing's alleged sovereignty over the area. They were all installed within Manila's 200-mile Exclusive Economic Zone (EEZ) and marked the "critical areas" of Patag Island, Kota Island, Panata Island and the Balagtas and Juan Felipe reefs. "This move highlights the Philippines' unwavering resolve to protect its maritime borders and resources and contribute to the safety of maritime trade," PCG Commodore Jay Tarriela said in a Twitter post.

SOTT FOCUS: MindMatters: Freedom in Tyranny: Ernst Jnger's The Forest Passage Signs of the Times

1984, Brave New World, Fahrenheit 451, The Gulag Archipelago - there are many great books on 20th-century totalitarianism. But few of them have the power and poetry of Ernst Jnger's 1951 The Forest Passage. Both a man of his time - and ahead of his time - the German-born Jnger was not only a staunch but careful critic of tyranny; he could see through the "soft power" manipulations of much subtler forms of centralized oppression as well. And call it out for exactly what it was. Given Jnger's broad vision and deep insight, one could be forgiven for thinking that the The Forest Passage was written only yesterday. It is packed with perennial truths that apply to the politics and psychology of Western civilization over the last 100 or so years. Join us this week on MindMatters as we give Ernst Jnger's gem of a book its due, and begin to explore what it means to be, or become, a 'forest rebel'. Running Time: 01:07:36 Download: MP3 92.8 MB

Zelensky plotted attacks deep inside Russia - WaPo Signs of the Times

The Ukrainian leader reportedly wanted to "occupy" Russian cities to gain leverage over Moscow... Despite public assurance that he would limit military action to his own country's 1991 borders, Ukrainian President Vladimir Zelensky formed plans to conduct attacks deep inside Russia and suggested that Kiev "destroy" the industry of Hungary, the Washington Post reported on Saturday, citing leaked Pentagon documents. Citing US intelligence reports recently published on a gaming server, the Post described how Zelensky suggested at a meeting in January that his troops "conduct strikes in Russia," while moving across the border to "occupy unspecified Russian border cities" in order to "give Kiev leverage in talks with Moscow." Less than two months later, the Ukraine-based Russian Volunteer Corps launched a cross-border raid that left two civilians dead in Russia's Bryansk Region. A member of the group told Western media that Kiev had approved the attack, and further assaults have taken...

WaPo deletes 'treason' quotes from Zelensky interview Signs of the Times

The Washington Post has cut a large segment from an interview with Ukrainian President Vladimir Zelensky, in which he pushed the newspaper to reveal alleged traitors in his ranks and angrily accused its reporters of aiding Russia by publishing information from leaked documents. The Post published a transcript of a lengthy interview with Zelensky on Saturday. After a discussion of a Ukrainian counteroffensive against Russian forces, the newspaper asked whether his military intelligence agency - the GUR - had "back-channel contact" with Yevgeny Prigozhin, head of the Russian private military company Wagner Group. Citing recently leaked Pentagon documents, the Post explained to Zelensky that American spies noted a meeting between the president and GUR chief Kirill Budanov in February in which Budanov told him that he had learned of a Wagner plan to "destabilize Moldova," but could counter this alleged plan by exposing his own "dealings" with Prigozhin, thus portraying the Wagner boss...

Biden and DHS secretary claim 'white supremacy' is the greatest US terror threat Signs of the Times

If you were ever confused as to why the political left has been using the words 'white supremacy' every time they mention conservative ideals in their rhetoric, then you might just be a regular person trying to think logically. After all, millions of minorities are also conservative, libertarian and pro-constitution. Millions of minorities are anti-socialist, pro-2nd Amendment and pro-meritocracy. The accusation of white supremacy simply doesn't apply. Yet, this narrative continues. Why? It's called social conditioning - Tell a big enough lie, tell it thousands of times, and eventually the public might subconsciously associate conservatives or conservative principles with racism even if the claim is provably false. They will even suggest a conservative is a "white supremacist" despite the fact that he or she is not white. It's confusing because it defies all reason, but that's the point. You cannot reason with zealotry. You cannot argue facts with mental patients. Their goal is...

State Dept. leak exposes Blinken: Emails show he protected China during spy balloon debacle Signs of the Times

A new report detailing a series of leaked emails and comments from protected sources within the State Department has revealed that the agency "held back human rights-related sanctions, export controls, and other sensitive actions to try to limit damage to the U.S.-China relationship," according to Reuters. Making matter worse, it happened while a Chinese balloon designed for intelligence gathering floated unimpeded across the country. At another time, words like 'treason,' and 'disloyalty' would be used to describe what the American people have seen from the Biden administration and particularly the Biden State Department. But today in the U.S., that's just business as usual it seems. According to Reuters, officials within the State Department were "alarmed" to discover that several delays were applied to the department's schedule of "competitive actions," a secret list of diplomatic maneuvers the Biden administration had planned in relation to China. A divide formed in the...

Neo-Nazi terror threat grows as Ukraine fighters jailed in France Signs of the Times

The arrest of two heavily armed French neo-Nazis returning from Ukraine highlights a looming problem for NATO states sponsoring the proxy war, and their conspiracy of silence on the nature of the threat. On April 24th 2023, two French neo-Nazis were jailed for 15 months, nine of which were suspended, for possessing assault rifle ammunition. The pair had returned to Paris from Ukraine two days earlier, and were arrested at customs. Both were on the radar of French domestic spying agency DGSI, which held files on them for endangering state security. According to the French outlet Mediapart, one was a veteran of Chasseurs Alpins (Alpine Hunters), France's elite mountain infantry force. He was thrown out of the military after his neo-Nazi sympathies were exposed online. The other is a notorious local far-right activist. As in many other Western countries, hundreds of French citizens have traveled to Kiev to take up arms against Russia since it invaded Ukraine in February 2022....

Soros partly controls human rights court - Medvedev Signs of the Times

Hungarian billionaire George Soros has influenced many judges at the European Court of Human Rights (ECHR), former Russian President Dmitry Medvedev claimed on Friday. He was referring to a 2020 report which revealed that 22 out of 100 ECHR judges who served between 2009 and 2019 had "strong ties" to Soros, whether through his Open Society Foundation or intermediary NGOs that received funding from the organization. Medvedev, who worked as a lawyer before entering politics, was speaking at the St. Petersburg International Legal Forum about the problems of the modern judiciary. "For many years, these judges literally ate out of his hand and, on direction from across the ocean, stamped biased court verdicts - which, by the way, have not been revised even after these corruption scandals." Russia withdrew from all treaties forcing it to accept ECHR jurisdiction in September 2022, and a law declaring all of the court's verdicts null and void on its territory went into effect in March.

Iran and Egypt to restore diplomatic ties Signs of the Times

Iran and Egypt are on track to restore diplomatic relations and reopen their respective embassies, a member of the Iranian Parliament's National Security and Foreign Policy Commission has said. MP Fada-Hossein Maleki added that President Ebrahim Raisi and his Egyptian counterpart, Abdel Fattah el-Sisi, will meet in person in the near future. Speaking to Iran's Tasnim news agency on Sunday, Maleki said that talks between Tehran and Cairo are currently being held in Iraq. The lawmaker described the atmosphere during the negotiations as positive. In January, the Iranian Foreign Ministry revealed that its head, Hossein Amir-Abdollahian, sat down with the Egyptian head of state in late 2022. The ministry spokesperson said at the time that the two countries "have basically no problem for dialogue, meetings, and exchange of views."

NY hotels evict veterans to house migrants Signs of the Times

New York City had reportedly promised not to send migrants upstate after vehement protest from local governments... Twenty homeless veterans were kicked out of hotels in Newburgh, New York where they had been given temporary shelter, in order to make way for illegal immigrants bused north from New York City, veterans' advocates told local media on Friday, eliciting outrage from across the political spectrum. Sharon Toney-Finch, CEO of the Yerik Israel Toney Foundation, told Mid Hudson News on Saturday: "Over the last week, many of our homeless veterans... were informed that they had to leave their temporary housing. The veterans were staying in several hotels that were preparing to receive migrants from New York City." The veterans were due to stay for a month at the hotels while permanent housing was secured, only to be shown the door two weeks into their stay, according to Toney-Finch. Local politicians were outraged at the report.

America's state media: The blackout on Biden corruption is truly 'Pulitzer-level stuff' Signs of the Times

This week, Rep. Byron Donalds (R-Fla.) tried to do the impossible. After he and his colleagues presented a labyrinth of LLC shell companies and accounts used to funnel as much as $10 million to Biden family members, Donalds tried to induce the press to show some interest in the massive corruption scandal. "For those in the press, this easy pickings & Pulitzer-level stuff right here," he pleaded. The response was virtually immediate. Despite showing nine Biden family members allegedly receiving funds from corrupt figures in Romania, China and other countries, The New Republic quickly ran a story headlined "Republicans Finally Admit They Have No Incriminating Evidence on Joe Biden." For many of us, it was otherworldly. A decade ago, when then-Vice President Joe Biden was denouncing corruption in Romania and Ukraine and promising action by the United States, massive payments were flowing to his son Hunter Biden and a variety of family members, including Biden grandchildren.

"Bold goals": Biden's Executive Order will have us bioengineering everything Signs of the Times

In September 2022, President Biden released an Executive Order on Advancing Biotechnology. Then, In March 2023, he released a document entitled Bold Goals for U.S. Biotechnology and Biomanufacturing, outlining specific areas of focus in this bioengineering manifesto. The goals in these documents sound very nice. They're all about using new technology to fight climate change, increase the food supply, cure diseases, and strengthen national security by increasing domestic manufacturing. Is that really the goal? However, I believe that these goals will be used to grab land from existing farmers and ranchers. Farmers and ranchers need to turn a profit to pay taxes on their land; as actions are taken to achieve these goals all but the largest will be driven out of business. This will occur via a combination of oppressive regulations in the name of climate change, and lawsuits regarding patent-protected crops. This probably sounds a little crazy, but the crazy people have been getting a...

Kremlin: Ukraine now de-facto 'state-sponsor of terrorism' Signs of the Times

Russian intelligence "knows what to do" about Kiev's pledge to continue "killing Russians anywhere," Dmitry Peskov has said Ukraine has de-facto turned into a "state-sponsor of terrorism," Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov has said. The official made the remarks in an interview with journalist Pavel Zarubin that aired on Sunday. The spokesman was asked for comments about a recent pledge by Ukraine's military intelligence chief Kirill Budanov, who vowed to "keep killing Russians anywhere" across the globe. Despite their explosive nature, the remarks did not face any criticism from Kiev's Western sponsors, Peskov noted. "The statement is unprecedented in its essence. And of course, it will be strange not to hear any words of condemnation from European capitals and from Washington. Logic says it's impossible to do without condemnation," he said.

BEST OF THE WEB: Reality-blindness, and Ethics as Practical Reason Signs of the Times

Are moral standards real, relative, or both? Reading through Hill's overview of the history of western philosophy in After the Natural Law, I was reminded of a thought: that this history and development has largely been an ongoing battle between two opposing worldviews, with land lost and regained over the millennia. Materialism and idealism. Absolutism and relativism. Atheism and theism. Their seeds are all there in the ancient Greeks. But the land itself remains largely the same. And perhaps therein lies part of the answer: it is all the same land. As in, both positions occupy some ground, but like changing borders they miss the wider truth: that the land itself encompasses both. Reality can tolerate either extreme position, to a degree, because each takes into account a part of reality as a whole. But they are incomplete on their own, and when either demands exclusive worship like some tribal god, they commit a form of philosophical blasphemy. Borrowing somewhat from political...

An Absurd Scene at G7: The Bandit Leader Ran for Police Chief Dissident Voice

Illustration: Liu Rui/GT

The Group of Seven (G7) Finance Ministers and Central Bank Governors meeting that ended on Saturday did not name China in the joint statement, nor did it mention the so-called economic coercion that has been hyped for a long time. Nonetheless, it is hard to say the G7 is returning to rationality on the issue of China. It is more likely retreating for the sake of advancing. The G7 has hinted that at the Hiroshima summit held from May 19 to May 21, the main statement is set to include a section specific to China with a list of concerns that include economic coercion.

If this is the case, it means that after blatantly interfering in Chinas Taiwan question, the G7 is attempting to expand the front to contain China to a new area where politics and economy are integrated. This mainly reflects the intention of Washington, but Japan, who holds the rotating presidency of the G7 this year, has been more active and radical than the US in promoting joint actions and mobilization to contain China. The G7 is undergoing a functional transformation, and the Chinese people must keep a high degree of vigilance against it. This time, the G7 meeting was held at the door of China, and the Chinese could feel the new Cold War atmosphere emanating from there at close range.

Japan in particular should be warned. China has expressed its strong dissatisfaction with Japan on the negative trends against China at relevant G7 meetings and Japans negative role in them, and lodged stern representations. How the G7 summit will be held depends on the attitude of the host country. If China is provoked, a considerable part of the account will be charged to Japan. If the G7 meeting is used to spread and magnify the maliciousness toward China, it will definitely have a negative impact on Japan itself. Todays Japan acts as a leading party to bring in foreign forces into East Asia, and it is bound to suffer the consequences.

It is absurd to choose the so-called economic coercion as an attack point against China, especially when such accusations come from Washington and Tokyo. Speaking of economic coercion, there is a well-known case in which the US and Japan were the protagonists the Plaza Accord signed in the 1980s. In order to reduce the fiscal deficit and trade deficit, the US forced the yen to appreciate sharply, leading the Jap...

Spyware firm NSO Group continues lobbying efforts to resume business-as-usual in the U.S. Original Journalism from OpenSecrets News

Israeli spyware firm NSO Group, the company behind the notorious Pegasus zero-click surveillance malware, emerged as one of Israels top lobbying entities in the United States last year after the U.S. Commerce Department added the firm to a list of trade restricted companies in November 2021.

In addition to NSO Groups campaign to reverse the blacklisting, the company has been lobbying to halt and shape potential new restrictions and a global regulatory framework on the spyware industry, new Foreign Agents Registration Act disclosures filed with the Justice Department reveal. NSO Group paid over $1.1 million to public relations companies and law firms in the U.S. in 2022, more than the government of Israel, including the Tourism and Foreign Affairs Ministries, spent in total on its U.S. lobbying operation through the same period.

NSO Group ramped up its U.S. lobbying operation after it was added to the U.S. Commerce Departments blacklist, officially dubbed the Entity List, for acting against U.S. national security and foreign policy interests. The restrictions, effectively banning American companies from selling technology to NSO Group, were imposed after revelations that the spyware was abused by autocratic governments. The firm has reportedly suffered financially since the decision.

Since 2020, NSO Group has paid foreign agents more than $2.9 million for foreign influence and lobbying operations in the U.S. The spyware firms foreign agents have reported spending about $50,000 thus far in 2023 to tackle restrictions and clean up its image, according to an analysis of disclosures filed under FARA by OpenSecrets. That amount is likely to grow substantially as more supplemental statements covering the last six months are filed.
