Top Madagascar shrimp co. moved millions among tax-haven shell companies "IndyWatch Feed Enviro"

An influential shrimp magnate in Madagascar moved millions of dollars among shell companies based in offshore tax havens, raising the possibility that one of the worlds poorest countries is missing out on important tax revenues. Aziz Ismail, 85, a French citizen born in Madagascar, bought into Madagascars shrimp business in 1973. His empire, known generally as Unima, now includes at least eight privately held companies in Europe and Africa that are mainly involved in seafood from Madagascar, where operations are centered. Ismail has also owned a British Virgin Islands (BVI) shell company called Ergia Limited since 2000, according to files obtained from the now-defunct Panama-based law firm Mossack Fonseca. The files, which date from 2000 to 2016 and were leaked from Mossack Fonseca along with the rest of the Panama Papers, were the basis for this investigation by Mongabay and the International Consortium of Investigative Journalists. In the last decade, Ergia appears to have had financial transactions with another apparent shell company in Mauritius that has close ties to Unima, and with Unima companies in Europe. Although owning and using offshore companies is generally legal, tax and law enforcement officials in Africa are increasingly scrutinizing transactions through tax havens. Tax inspectors from Madagascar and other experts say the use of multiple offshore companies raises the risk of lost taxes for one of the worlds poorest countries. Monaco and the BVI are tax havens where there is no tax on profits or on transactions, a Madagascar tax inspector, who asked not

Tech prize finalists promote collaboration to fight extinction "IndyWatch Feed Enviro"

The non-profit Conservation X Labs (CXL) recently announced twenty finalists for the Con X Tech Prize subtitled Hacking Extinction. The finalists will receive $3,500 to continue developing their projects, which include embedded image-sorting for camera traps, marine-specific animal tags, and a Fitbit for Orangutans. Teams are building databases, devices, and algorithms. And more importantly, they are mixing experts in aerospace with experts in fisheries and biologists with engineers. Second environmental expert sued over testimony against palm oil firm "IndyWatch Feed Enviro"

JAKARTA A prominent environmental expert in Indonesia faces a lawsuit by a palm oil company after testifying against its practices, in the second case of its kind this year. The move has stoked fear among activists, who say its part of an escalating campaign to silence environmental defenders. The lawsuit was filed by palm oil firm PT Jatim Jaya Perkasa (JJP) against Bambang Hero Saharjo, a forestry expert from the Bogor Institute of Agriculture (IPB), on Sept. 17 with a court in Cibinong, in West Java province. Bambang had testified in 2015 as a witness for the prosecution in a government lawsuit against JJP for negligence leading to fires in its concession in Sumatra. A key part of his testimony was his financial assessment of the environmental damage done as a result of the fires. His expertise was seen as instrumental in the guilty verdict subsequently handed down to JJP. The court also fined the company 119.8 billion rupiah ($7.9 million) and ordered it to pay for the restoration of 10 square kilometers (3.9 square miles) of burned plantation, estimated at 371.1 billion rupiah ($24.4 million). JJP appealed, but the ruling was upheld by the countrys highest court earlier this year. The company has now turned its attention to Bambang, suing him not over the substance of his testimony, but on a mere technicality: In its lawsuit, JJP says the evidence presented by Bambang was inadmissible because it used both the IPB logo and the letterhead of the Ministry

Boah, Heise!!

Wait, what? Was jetzt, kritisch oder Information disclosure?!

CVSS-Score 9.8? Availability heit Denial of Service.

Windows 10 October 2018 Updates Disk Cleanup Can Empty Your Downloads Folder "IndyWatch Feed Tech"

Beware while using Disk Cleanup, as it cleans your Downloads Folder in the Windows 10 October 2018 Update

Apparently, Windows 10 October 2018 Update could wipe your entire downloads folder if you are not careful.

We all know that one of the basic features in Windows is the Disk Cleanup utility tool that allows you to free up some disk space by deleting temporary files, thumbnails, files in the Recycle Bin, and other unnecessary files that may clutter up your disk.

Now, Microsoft has quietly added the Downloads folder in the Disk Cleanup process as an additional location from where files can be removed to free up more space. The new option Download folder is unchecked by default. For those unaware, the Download folder is the default download location for files from the Internet.

While the new addition may be helpful for those who want to empty out the contents from the Downloads folder, but this could be a concern for those who are using the Disk Cleanup as they have done for years. In other words, if you are used to selecting everything on the Disk Cleanup list and end up overlooking the new Downloads option, it could delete all the files that you would have stored over the years from the Downloads folder during the cleaning process.

Disk Cleanup being deprecated in Windows 10

Microsoft recently confirmed that it plans to deprecate the Disk Cleanup tool in Windows 10. While the Disk Cleanup is still available in Windows 10 October 2018 Update, Microsoft will be removing it from a future release of Windows 10.

The company plans to move the Disk Cleanup tool over to the new Settings app within System > Storage in a setting called Storage Sense.

The Disk Cleanup experience (cleanmgr.exe) is being deprecated. Were retaining the Disk Cleanup tool for compatibility reasons, stated a Microsoft blog post. Theres no need to worry since Storage Senses functionality is a superset of what the legacy Disk Cleanup provides!

The Disk Cleanup tool already has another option called Free up Space Now that is available from the Settings page. Since Disk Cleanup has been deprecated, Free Up Space Now is a better option to free up space that can be accessed through System > Storage > Free Up Space Now.

Canada: Pipeline Explosion Near Prince George Forces About 100 Evacuations from First Nation Community "IndyWatch Feed Enviro"

by Jesse Ferreras / Global News

As many as 100 people have been evacuated from the reserve of the Lheidli Tenneh First Nation north of Prince George after a pipeline explosion generated a massive fire that could be seen from the campus of the University of Northern B.C. (UNBC) on Tuesday.

Enbridge confirmed that a rupture happened on a line it owns and operates at about 5:45 p.m., about 13.5 kilometres north of Prince George, said a company statement.

Emergency crews with the company responded, isolated and were working to depressurize two natural gas transmissions lines in the area so that the incident could be contained, the statement added.

The Prince George RCMP confirmed that an explosion happened, forcing evacuations in the immediate vicinity of the fire.

In a news release, police said they responded to a call about an explosion close to Landooz Road at about 5:30 p.m.

Homes within several kilometres were evacuated, but the evacuation zone was later reduced to one kilometre.

RCMP were on scene throughout the night and most of the impacted residents have since been allowed to return home.

RCMP said the explosion appeared to have involved an Enbridge natural gas pipeline, and that there were no injuries nor any reported damage except to the pipeline itself.

The gas supply was shut down and theres not yet any indication of what caused the blast.

The explosion has prompted a warning from FortisBC, saying it is anticipating a dip in energy flow and potential loss of service.

The pipeline feeds the utilitys natural gas system, which has Fortis urging customers to turn off their thermostats and reduce use of their natural gas appliances.

A similar warning has been issued in Washington state.

FortisBC estimates about 70 per cent of its one million customers have the potential to lose gas supply due to the inc...

Postal Workers Unite Nationwide Against Trumps Privatization Plan "IndyWatch Feed Nthamerica"

Under the proposalunveiled in June as part of a 32-point plan (pdf) to significantly reorganize the federal governmentUSPS would transition to a model of private management and private or shared ownership. The White House argued that freeing USPS to more fully negotiate pay and benefits rather than prescribing participation in costly federal personnel benefit programs, and allowing it to follow private sector practices in compensation and labor relations, could further reduce costs. Critics warn that such a transition would not only negatively impact service but also bring awful consequences for postal workers, who demonstrated on their day off in cities across the United States on Monday to tell the president that USPS is #NotForSale.

Ethiopia PM Reaches Deal With Soldiers Demanding Raises: Report
Details of agreement unclear after hundreds of soldiers marched to capital demanding pay rises and operational review.

Ethiopian soldiers have asked for a review the structure and operations of the military [File: Reuters]

Ethiopian Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed has reached an agreement with several hundred soldiers who marched to his office to demand pay rises, state television (ETV) reported.

The meeting between the soldiers and Abiy ended with "an agreement", but there were no immediate details of what the deal included, ETV said on Wednesday.

In addition to asking for pay rises, the soldiers also requested that Abiy "review the structure and operations of the military".

ETV did not broadcast images of the soldiers marching.

The station also reported that the soldiers had been on a mission in Burayu, a town in the Oromia region that borders the capital Addis Ababa, for the past several weeks following violence along ethnic lines there last month.

No internet

Residents reported that the internet was shut down for nearly three hours on Wednesday.

ETV said it had been shut off to prevent fake news circulating on social media.

Abiy, 42, took office in April after several years of unrest forced his predecessor to resign.

He has pledged to reform the security forces and promote multi-party democracy.

These changes are a shock to the system in Ethiopia, a country of more than 100 million people that has been led with an iron fist since the EPRDF coalition that Abiy belongs to took over power in 1991.

Ethiopia Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed Does Press-ups With Protesting Soldiers
BBC World Service

Ethiopia's prime minister has done press-ups with dozens of protesting soldiers, who had marched into his office in the capital, Addis Ababa.

Abiy Ahmed was unhappy that soldiers had brought weapons and ordered them to do 10 press-ups.

They were among several hundred protesting soldiers who entered his office grounds to demand a pay rise.

The situation caused alarm, leading to road closures in the area and the internet to be shut off for hours.

Many Ethiopians wondered whether this amounted to a serious security breach, says BBC Amharic's Jibat Tamirat.

However, the smiles on the soldiers' faces as they performed the press-ups suggest the prime minister succeeded in defusing the situation amicably:

What happened exactly?

The soldiers began massing outside the presidential compound on Wednesday morning, causing a partial road block in the area, the BBC's Amharic service reports.

Around half of them were armed with Kalashnikovs and sniper rifles.

They were told by the guards that they could not enter the sprawling grounds with their guns.

Contrary to previous reports, the soldiers were disarmed outside the compound. They were only allowed into the premises in the late afternoon and the road block was lifted.

After meeting the soldiers on Wednesday, Mr Abiy said he would "look into their complaints" but stressed that even civil servants had to make do with low salaries as the country had limited resources.

"We have to use the money for development purposes," he said according to a statement. "We can pay everyone higher salaries but we will end up [with] no development."

Who is Abiy Ahmed?

He came to power in April after three years of protest led by ethnic Oromos, who were demanding an end to what they considered their political and economic marginalization.

The prime minister, who...

Mohammed Dewji: Africa's 'Youngest Billionaire' Abducted in Tanzania
BBC World Service

Financial magazine Forbes says Mohammed Dewji is worth $1.5bn (980m)

The man said to be Africa's youngest billionaire has been kidnapped by masked gunmen in Tanzania's main city Dar es Salaam, police say.

Mohammed Dewji, 43, was abducted outside a swanky hotel gym where he was going for his routine morning workout.

Three people have been arrested in connection with the incident and two of the abductors were believed to be foreign nationals, police added.

The motive for Mr Dewji's abduction is still unclear.

Who is Mohammed Dewji?

Financial magazine Forbes puts his wealth at $1.5bn (980m), and has described him as Tanzania's only billionaire.

In a 2017 report, it said Mr Dewji was Africa's youngest billionaire.

Mr Dewji is also a major sponsor of one of Tanzania's biggest football teams, Simba.

He promised in 2016 to donate at least half his fortune to philanthropic causes, Forbes said.

Mr Dewji, locally known as Mo, is credited with turning his family business from a wholesale and retail enterprise into a pan-African conglomerate, reports the BBC's Athuman Mtulya from Dar es Salaam.

With the 2018 Hurricane Season in its final 2 month stretch, officially beginning on May 15th and ending in November 30th, people may be wondering how this years Hurricane Lane, the first Category 5 hurricane since Hurricane Patricia in 2015, compares to the latter and other tropical weather disturbances around the world in the past.

Hurricanes and Typhoons are similar entities with their only differences coming from where they geographically originate (Hurricanes form in the Atlantic Ocean and Gulf of Mexico while Typhoons originate in the Pacific). They are measured according to wind speed and barometric pressure, determinants of how powerful and destructive they can be, with great speed and low pressure (below 920 milliibars) as ominous signs of their wrath.

Here are 30 of the Most Powerful Tropical Weather Systems Ever Recorded in History, ranked according to wind speed.

Escalating Violence in Cameroon ahead of Presidential Elections "IndyWatch Feed War"

Cameroon has seen a disturbing increase in violence as a result of a burgeoning separatist movement in the countrys English-speaking region. In particular, videos have gone viral showing soldiers beheading civilians. The videos, now revealed to have belonged to the Cameroonian military, have been circulating around international media for some time, signaling to the world the growing scale of the conflict.

Recent reports from Amnesty International have documented several human rights violations from both separatist and governmental forces. They, alongside other human rights groups and think tanks, have raised concerns that the violence within the country is reaching dramatic levels and will most likely see a further escalation during presidential elections that are scheduled to be held in October.

These developments bode ill for the countrys future, and through it all the US military continues to support the security services in Cameroon.

There's a New Report on SLS Rocket Management, and It's Pretty Brutal "IndyWatch Feed Tech"

There's a New Report on Space Launch System (SLS) Rocket Management, and It's Pretty Brutal:

Boeing has been building the core stage of NASA's Space Launch System rocket for the better part of this decade, and the process has not always gone smoothly, with significant overruns and multiyear delays. A new report from NASA's inspector general makes clear just how badly the development process has gone, laying the blame mostly at the feet of Boeing.

"We found Boeing's poor performance is the main reason for the significant cost increases and schedule delays to developing the SLS core stage," the report, signed by NASA Inspector General Paul Martin, states. "Specifically, the project's cost and schedule issues stem primarily from management, technical, and infrastructure issues directly related to Boeing's performance."

As of August 2018, the report says, NASA has spent a total of $11.9 billion on the SLS. Even so, the rocket's critical core stage will be delivered more than three years later than initially plannedat double the anticipated cost. Overall, there are a number of top-line findings in this report, which cast a mostly if not completely negative light on Boeing and, to a lesser extent, NASA and its most expensive spaceflight project.

Schedule slips

The report found that NASA will need to spend an additional $1.2 billion, on top of its existing $6.2 billion contract for the core stages of the first two SLS rockets, to reach a maiden launch date of June 2020. NASA originally planned to launch the SLS rocket on its maiden flight in November 2017.

However, given all of the development problems that the SLS rocket has seen, the report does not believe a mid-2020 date is likely either. "In light of the project's development delays, we have concluded NASA will be unable to meet its EM-1 launch window currently scheduled between December 2019 and June 2020," the report states.

Video: As the olive harvest begins, so do the settler attacks "IndyWatch Feed War"

The time had finally come: the residents of Turmusayya, a lush Palestinian village nestled in a valley between Ramallah and Nablus in the central occupied West Bank, had gotten permission from Israeli authorities to go harvest their olive trees.

This chance only came twice a year: two days in the spring to cultivate their land, and two days in the fall to harvest the olives.

Filled with excitement and a sense of urgency, the villagers made their way to their farmlands, which are surrounded by an Israeli settlement and outpost. When they arrived, they were devastated to find dozens of trees chopped down, uprooted, and rotting.

The 40 olive trees belonged to 78-year-old Palestinian Mahmoud al-Araj, who had been tending to the trees since he was a boy.

Some of these trees are 40, 50, 60, and 70 years old, al-Araj told Mondoweiss, as he sat under the shade of a large olive tree that had been slashed at its trunk.

I have been cultivating these trees, this land, since I was a boy. We helped our families and tired ourselves on this land so we could provide for our children and the future generations, he said.

Pointing to the illegal Israeli outpost of Adei Ad, which was built on lands of Turmusayya, just a few hundred meters away, the distress in al-Arajs voice intensified.

We give everything we have to our land and to these trees, and then the settlers come and destroy it all.

Settler attacks an inevitable part of the harvest

When we saw the trees like this, we didnt call Mahmoud because we were scared he would have a heart attack, Said Hussein, a relative of Al-Araj told Mondoweiss, as he helped al-Araj up the rugged pathway to his olive grove.

Hussein, who owns several businesses in America, spends his time between Chicago and his birthplace, Turmusayya He owns several acres of land in the village, most of which he is not able to access at all.

Bougainville has right to self Determination
New Dawn FM News
111018

Bougainvilles right to self-determination through the referendum is guaranteed within the parameters of the Papua New Guinea Constitution.
ABG President Chief Dr John Momis made this statement during the opening of the special JSB Meeting in Port Moresby today.
President Momis says that despite arguements that self-determination will cause the defragmentation of the nation, Bougainville is a special case.
He says Bougainville has earned this right after the National Government declared war on its own citizens in a civil war that saw the loss of more than twenty thousand lives and hundreds of millions of kinas worth of property destroyed.
President Momis says that Bougainvilleans were deprived of their rights despite Bougainville bankrolling PNGs independence and post-independence development.
The man highly regarded as one of PNGs most respected Founding Fathers and technically the Father of the PNG Constitution was not going to mince his words as he put into perspective Bougainvilles frustrations over the National Government reneging on its commitment to the Bougainville Peace Agreement.
Despite this President Momis says that the people of Bougainville are committed to collaborating with the National Government in implementing the referendum in a democratized manner.
President Momis reiterates that the process of self-determination is within the parameters of the PNG Constitution and is not in contravention of any laws of the country.

Psst, kid, want drugs? Im a psychiatrist "IndyWatch Feed Nthamerica"

Look at it this way. The kid doesnt have to pay for drugs out of his pocket. He gets them in a shrinks office. Insurance covers it.

His parents may be able to work a Social Security disability claim and receive $$ and other free medical treatments.

The kids school cashes in. Theyre now teaching a disabled child. Government aid.

No wonder Health Day News (4/24/14) reports that 1 in 13 American children are now on at least one psychiatric medication.

In 2012, the Archives of General Psychiatry reported a 7-fold increase in psychiatrists prescribing (powerful and toxic) antipsychotic meds to children, based on an analysis of office visits. (see also this.)

Then we have this (12/13/2009, truth-out.com, by Evelyn Pringle): from 1996-2006, US child prescriptions for psychiatric drugs up 50%; in 2006, more money was spent ($8.9 billion) on treatment for child mental disorders in the US than for any other medical condition in kids.

The legal drug traffickers (pharmaceutical companies) are banking on the obvious: rope in a child, get him on psychiatric meds, and you may well have a customer for life.

Mass shootings reportedly involving children? A Pharma bonanza. We have to catch the mental disorder early and treat (drug) it, to avoid more such tragedies. Obama announces a program to build community mental health centers (pushers) across America.

Mob Rule Always Precedes Civil War and Obama Has Emerged as the Chief Mobster "IndyWatch Feed Nthamerica"

Is Obama Preparing to Lead a Coup Against President Trump? Why Does He Have a Private Army Consisting of Thousands? Why IS He Only a Short Way From the White House? What Is He Really Up To? Obama has initiated a new strategy for the liberal left, MOB RULE!

Ed Henry from Fox News reported on the Fox news show on October 11, 2018, Fox and Friends, that he has uncovered evidence that Obama was planning to lead a movement of incivility against the Trump administration and all conservatives, in general, weeks before leaving office, should Trump prevail and win the Presidential election. This revelation should not be surprising to anyone familiar with Obamas background. His only job prior to his one term of being an Illinois State Senator and a partial term as a US Senator, prior to becoming the President was that of  being a community activist.  Some community activists provide a valuable service to their community. Most do nothing but serve to mindlessly disrupt the day to day function of a community with nonsense, liberal-based politics. Obama was the latter.

It is interesting to see how Obama has returned to his role as a community activist, only this time, he is performing this function on a grand scale and on behalf of the globalist forces that would subjugate this country by destroying its civil liberties, economy, it border security and its sovereignty. Obama is now doing what he does best, destroying the status quo by tearing down, not by building up. Obama is nothing but a domestic terrorist and he is leading liberals into a very dark period of Mob Rule.

UnicornBot Will Enchant Kids Into Learning STEM and Coding "IndyWatch Feed Tech"

This Blockly-based robot unicorn can move around, nod its head, and light up its horn

There are a number of robots designed to help kids learn the basics of coding, but this is the first weve seen that comes equipped with a purple mane and a light-up horn.

Meet UnicornBot, a programmable robot kit that UBTECH Robotics is launching today. Recommended for children age 8 and up, it is on sale for US $120 on UBTECHs site and retailers like Target and Amazon.

UBTECH, headquartered in Shenzen, China, with offices in Los Angeles, says UnicornBot is for all children, but is especially designed to spark an interest in STEM among young girls.

UnicornBot has an accompanying app for Android or iOS that helps you put the robot together by following step-by-step 3D instructions. The robot consists of some 400 parts and connectors, plus a main controllerunicorn brainthat receives data from a color sensor and sends instructions to the LED horn, a DC motor, and two servos.

With the app you can use the visual programming language Blockly to make UnicornBot move, nod its head, react to colored cards, and light up its horn. The programming is done by combining drag-and-drop coding blocks on the screen.

As with other robots that you can program with an app, we like the fact that kids can learn concepts like input, output, loops, and how changing parameters like the angle of the servos or the speed of the DC motor affect the robots behavior. The tricky part, however, is keeping kids interested after the initial excitement. Will unicorn magic help solve that challenge?

Weve been told of  peaceful protests in 2011 that were ruthlessly crushed, forcing violent resistance instead. But it turns out this wasnt totally true.

And now we have one more clear confirmation that picture was sanitized, distorting public perception to accept the continued targeting of Syrias government. At the nexus the mainstream media and western-backed war crimes investigators, someone with some reality in front of them apparently chose to delete the important half of it, before promoting the rest nearly upside-down, as an important breakthrough in proving that other picture.

Its claimed this piece of evidence is the linchpin of an incredibly strong case to be used in an eventual court trials against any Syrian officials deemed complicit. Maybe they plan on showing the judge the same select quotes they shared with the court public opinion in their long-running pre-trial. But if so, they had better hope that judge hasnt read this article.

Managing a Crisis of Just Protesters?

Just four months into the supposed protest-crushing, at the start of August, 2011, the increasingly isolated Syrian government decided a new plan was needed. To this end, they created a new Central Crisis Management Cell (CCMC). The first meeting of the CCMC was held in Damascus on 5 August, outlining a plan of action to speed up putting an end to the crisis.

A leaked record of this was later received by the Committee for International Justice and Accountability (CIJA), as part of their massive trove of...

Arlan W. Jourdain Succeeds Alexander Gillespie as Red Lake Hereditary Chief "IndyWatch Feed 1stpeople"

Hereditary Chief James Loud (left) swears in new Chief Arlan W. Jourdain

Published October 11, 2018

RED LAKE INDIAN RESERVATION At about 10:00 a.m., near the top of the agenda at the October 9, 2018, monthly meeting of the Red Lake Tribal Council, Arlan W. Jourdain was sworn in as one of Red Lakes Hereditary Chiefs. Jourdain succeeds Chief Alexander Gillespie who resigned the position in late summer.
Jourdain was sworn in by fellow Hereditary Chief James Loud, while Chiefs, Tribal Councilors, Red Lake members, friends and family stood in pride and respect to bear witness.
According to Chief Loud, members of Red Lakes Seven Hereditary Chief system have the responsibility of deciding who is to succeed the previous Chief by examining the family trees or lineage charts.
Sometimes its easy. Loud said, As a general rule, the honor and responsibility of being a Red Lake Hereditary Chief is inherited by the eldest son. There are other times, (for example a chief with no sons) that require more consultation. In all cases, lineage is examined and it is the Chiefs who determine who best meets the criteria for filling a vacancy. The Tribal Council then ratifies that choice.

Soyuz Rocket Emergency Landing, Everyone OK "IndyWatch Feed Tech"

NASA spokesperson [Brandi Dean] summarized it succinctly: Confirming again that todays Soyuz MS10 launch did go into ballistic re-entry mode That means the crew will not be going to the ISS today. Instead they will be taking a sharp landing, coming back to earth. While nobody likes last-minute changes in plans, we imagine that goes double for astronauts. On the other hand, its always good news when we are able to joke about a flight that starts off with a booster separation problem.

Astronauts [Nick Hague] and [Aleksey Ovchinin] were on their way this morning to the International Space Station, but only made it as far as the middle of Kazakhstan. Almost as soon as the problem occurred, the rocket was re-pathed and a rescue team was sent out to meet them. Just an hour and a half after launch, they were on-site and pulled the pair out of the capsule unharmed. Roscosmos has already commissioned a report to look into the event. In short, all of the contingency plans look like they went to plan. Well have to wait and see what went wrong.

Watching the video (embedded below) the only obvious sign that anyone got excited is the simultaneous interpreter stumbling a bit when she has to translate [Aleksey] saying emergency failure of the booster separation. Indeed, he reported everything so calmly that the NASA commentator didnt even catch on for a few seconds. If you want to know what its like to remain cool under pressure, have a listen.

Going to space today is still a risky business, but thankfully lacks the danger factor that it once had. For instance, a Soyuz rocket hasnt had an issue like this since 1975. Apollo 12 was hit by lightning and temporarily lost its navigation computer, but only the truly close call on Apollo 13 was made into a Hollywood Blockbuster. Still, its worth pausing a minute or two to think of the people up there floating around. Or maybe even sneak out and catch a glimpse when the ISS flies overhead.

Anna Von Reitz: Video 4 Minutes to Donald Trump on National Credit and Debt Includes One Pager "IndyWatch Feed War"

Downloadable Document and Full Text Online Below the Fold

DOC (1 Page):  Anna von Reitz on National Credit

THEY used The United States of America [Unincorporated], as the Credit Account in their Double Accrual Accounting System adopted in 1946.  We got all the assets and credit accumulation, while they kept the debt as a control mechanism.

The two sides of the ledger were never reconciled, with the result that we got richer and richer and had the full benefit of all accruals and interest undisturbed, while they did nothing but gather debt, debt, and more debt.

This is anti-intuitive until you realize the aims of the Vermin.

First, the Popes and the British Monarchs, had to demonstrate their stewardship of our assets.  What better than to keep our assets locked up and earning interest?

Second, by keeping our credit and assets pooled they could form a gigantic investment fund they controlled. This allowed commodity and resource rigging on a vast scale, culminating in the establishment of the Exchange Stabilization Fund, which allowed them to control currency supplies and values worldwide.

Third, they established so-called Private Placement Trading Platforms this allowed them to invest our assets by blocking accounts for specific periods of time and leveraging the assets in those accounts via pre-determined contracts based on fractional reserve banking conventions.  This allowed them to profit 5-10X the asset value, without actually moving or risking the original underlying assets.

Fourth, the runaway accrual of debt on the USA, Inc. and UNITED STATES, INC. side of the ledger let the politicians Poor Mouth for increased taxes. The National Debt also justified paying more and more to the government and the widespread belief that we were deep in debt then made bankruptcy of the government corporations seem reasonable, if not inevitable.

And what was this all leading up to?

The Secondary Creditors we are the Priority Creditors were counting on us not claiming our assets.

When the bankruptcy of the United States of America, Inc. settled in 1999, the World Bank (one of the original perpetrators) stepped forward and claimed approximately $387 billion worth of American gold confiscated by FDR as unclaimed property.

All the schemers counted on pulling the same schtick on a much vaster scale now and got caught.

Donald Trump needs to work with us and the Historic Trust Association we have formed including the DAvila Trust.  We have the proof, the standing, a...

$5 million Submarine cable depot opens in Samoa "IndyWatch Feed Pacific"

The grand opening of the Samoa Cable depot at the Matatutu Wharf was the realisation of a critical component in Samoas goal to becoming the submarine cable hub for the Pacific.

The $5 million (US$1.8 million) state of the art building project, undertaken in partnership by the Samoa Submarine Cable Company (SSCC) and TE SubCom, will service the South Pacific Marine Maintenance Agreement (SPMMA).

Prime Minister Tuilaepa Sailele Malielegaoi congratulated the conglomerate for their strong working relationship, saying such a breakthrough is a tangible example of regional cooperation to realise the One Polynesia strategy.

In February I spoke about Samoas aspiration to become the submarine cable hub linking Polynesia to Samoa and the rest of the world as a real and tangible example of regional cooperation the One Polynesia strategy was well received by the leaders of the Polynesian leaders group during its annual meeting held in Tuvalu in June 2018, he said.

Another important project which encompasses the One Polynesian vision is the Manatua cable linking Tahiti, Cook Islands, Niue to Samoa in order to provide world class communications services for French Polynesia, Cook Islands and Niue and Samoa as early as Q1 2020.

The Prime Minister also emphasized the significance of having the multi-billion dollar company, T.E SubCom invest in Samoa given their reputation as being pioneers in submarine cable communications technology.

Seven months ago TE SubCom placed their faith in Samoa, and today Samoa has delivered upon its promise to deliver the Samoa cable depot, he said.

Whilst the Samoa cable depot is based in Samoa, the implications for Samoa are profound, as this depot will maintain more than 28 telecommunications and power cable systems with a combined length of over 65,000 km in the Pacific and Oceania region.

The partnership also signifies the success of Government policy to encourage to Samoa foreign investors like TE SubCom who are attracted by Samoas favorable economic conditions, investment incentives and strong government support.

TE SubCom are contracted for five years and the Prime Minister listed some significant advantages to having the CS Reliance and the Cable Depot in Apia starting with increased revenue for Samoa Ports Authority and local stevedoring companies through port fees and charges.

The positive economic impacts from the presence of the C.S Reliance and its 60+ crew as well as other cable ship crews needing to....

Italian luxury Maserati for APEC leaders in PNG paid for by private sector "IndyWatch Feed Pacific"

The delivery of Maserati Quattroporte sedans in Papua New Guinea has been welcomed by the APEC Minister Justin Tkatchenko.

Tkatchenko said that the purchasing of the vehicles did not cost the government any money as stated by those who continue to bring the APEC meeting into disrepute.

These 40 vehicles are super executive sports cars, which retail in the European Market, at around US$70, 000 (K229,000) each are computerised and will be used to transport world leaders during the Leaders Summit.

The first 20 Maseratis were flown into the country on Sunday, and the other 20 on Wedneday (October 10) on Air Bag Cargos Boeing 747 from Italy.

For those who continue to spread lies and bring hype to the issue of the vehicles being brought into the country, the National Government did not pay for any of the vehicles; these vehicles have been bought by the private sector, he said.

And once we conclude the APEC Summit, the vehicles will be sold to individuals or businesses that wish to acquire such a car.

Lets not get all excited about the vehicles costing the government money, its not and lets get facts first before we say anything.

Maserati Quattroporte sedans have been secured and delivered, and are being committed to be paid for.

The sedans will provide the level of carriage for leaders that is the standard for vehicles used at APEC Summits.

Papua New Guinea is delivering a world-class APEC Summit and we are ensuring leaders and dignitaries are transported properly between events through APEC week, he said.

Having vehicles paid for by the private sector is the smartest way to have use of the vehicles for APEC at no overall cost to the State.

This is the same as has been done in past events providing vehicles for use by Leaders at Pacific Islands Forum meetings and the African Caribbean and Pacific Leaders Summit.

When we were using the V8, Prado and mini vans, and buses during the PIF and Eight African Caribbean and Pacific Leaders Summit it was resold once the meetings concluded, its the same, lets not jump to conclusions, he said.

China describes media reports on its aid to the Pacific as false "IndyWatch Feed Pacific"

The Chinese Ambassador to Papua New Guinea, Xue Bing has described Western media reports on Chinese aid to the country and Pacific Islands as false.

He said: Chinese relations and cooperation in the economic and trade relations, the purpose of China in doing so is to help the local economic development and such a progress of the country.

And we dont harbour personal interest, we dont want to have a political gain or strategic presence in this area.

There have been reports on western media attacking Chinas relation with PNG and island countries a lot, but this is totally false.

Our relations are transparent cooperation and benefiting people in real time, we will continue to do so, Bing said.

The Ambassador was speaking at the handing over ceremony of vehicles donated through the Chinese Aid in assistance for APEC.

In attendance was Minister for APEC Justin Tkatchenko, Minister for Planning Richard Maru, Minister for Inter-Government Relations Kevin Isifu, APEC Authority chief executive officer Chris Hawkins, chief fire service officer Bill Roo and members of the China Ministry of Commerce and other delegates.

Ambassador Bing said the presentation of vehicles was to demonstrate the friendly feeling of the Chinese people to Papua New Guinea.

We hope that this small token will contribute to success of upcoming APEC meeting, after APEC, these vehicles will benefit the local people, thats the reason why the Chinese government is doing
such assistance.

China and PNG enjoy good relations in terms of political trusts among both leaders and their people, the Prime Minister of PNG Peter ONeill personally invited the Chinese President to visit the country with the president accepting the invitation.

Both sides are working together to prepare on such an important visit, I am confident this visit will be a success and historical.

Economic and trade relations are also benefiting our people, weve been doing a lot in trade and PNG is enjoying surplus. We will continue to keep that trend and also people to people links are increasing.

At the end of this month, there will be an inaugural flight from Port Moresby to Shanghai so that will be a first direct air link between this region and China.

Are Super-Cheap Solar Fields in the Middle East Just Loss-Leaders? "IndyWatch Feed Tech"

Arthur T Knackerbracket has found the following story:

In recent years, massive solar projects proposed for the Middle East have grabbed headlines with extremely low prices. Developers have announced agreements to sell their solar energy for as low as 2.34 per kilowatt-hour (kWh)lower than the US' lowest prices and much lower than the average 6 per kilowatt-hour that the US lauded last September.

What they learned was that the numbers posted in four of the most recent Middle East solar projects were likely real, with some reasonable help from favorable government policies. Still, the numbers seem real for the region; not all cost reductions are likely to transfer to other parts of the world.

[...] The researchers primarily looked at four solar installations and their accompanying Power Purchase Agreements (PPAs). While most solar developers might not disclose what it actually costs to buy, install, and connect a solar energy plant, the PPA can be used to reverse-engineer what the costs to install a project arein some cases. If there are significant hidden subsidies or the developer doesn't care that a PPA price is below cost, then the PPA doesn't tell us a lot.

Two of the four solar installations that the researchers looked at are located at Mohammed Bin Rashid al Maktoum Solar Park (MBR Solar Park). Phase II of the MBR Solar Park is a 200MW installation that was announced in 2015 and secured a PPA for 5.84 per kWh. Phase III, announced in June 2017, will add another 800MW to the park and will sell its electricity for 2.99 per kWh. Additionally, a May 2017 project in Abu Dhabi called Sweihan will build out 1,177MW and sell that electricity for 2.94 per kWh. Finally, Sakaka solar park in Northern Saudi Arabia was announced in March 2018 with a PPA price of 2.34 per kWh.

BBC perpetuates the narrative of perpetual Palestinian refugees "IndyWatch Feed War"

On Oct. 8th, the BBC published video segment by Paul Adams titled After 70 years, who are the Palestinian refugees?, filmed at the Burg Al-Barajneh refugee camp in Beirut, which focused on Palestinian fears that, under the new US peace plan, theyll never be allowed to return home.

Heres the six-minute segment:

Though the official UNRWA figure counts over 5 million Palestinian refugees, the overwhelming majority of these refugees as weve noted repeatedly are merely Palestinians descendants (children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, etc.) of the original 711,000 actual refugees from 1948 who, unlike every other refugee population, are automatically granted refugee status, even those who have citizenship in other countries.

As Einat Wilf, co-author of the book The War of Return observed about the fiction that there are millions of Palestinian refugees.

almost all [Palestinian refugees] (upward of 80 per cent) are either citizens of a third country, such as Jordan, or they live in [Palestinian territories] where they were born and expect to have a future

Gunman arrested near Malibu park where camper was killed while with daughters

CALABASAS, Calif.   A man dressed in black and carrying a rifle was arrested Wednesday near Malibu Creek State Park, where a camper was shot and killed as he slept in a tent in June, authorities said. A vast search involving Los Angeles County sheriffs deputies, a helicopter, search-and-rescue teams and detectives led to the arrest of Anthony Rauda, 42, Sheriff Jim McDonnell said at an evening news conference.

The search was prompted by a series of at least eight burglaries over the past two years in the Calabasas-Malibu area in which food was stolen from local buildings. But for now, Rauda, who has a long criminal history, was only being held for a parole violation, the sheriff said.

Investigators had not ruled out a link to the shooting at the wilderness park, and the rifle will undergo ballistic tes...

(Photo: Ezra Shaw/Getty Images)

NFL kneelers have been protesting against what they deem is endemic police brutality. While those claims have been refuted by a number of studies, if NFL kneelers truly oppose unfair police treatment, they have the chance this month to send an important message to a police force that has truly proven to be brutal: the UKs blue line.

October is an unusual month for the National Football League (NFL). Six teams will play three games against each other in Londons Wembley Stadium:

  • Seattle Seahawks vs. Oakland Raiders (October 14)
  • Tennessee Titans vs. Los Angeles Chargers (October 21
  • Philadelphia Eagles vs. Jacksonville Jaguars (October 28).

These games provide a unique opportunity for playerssome still kneeling while our national anthem is playedto do something worthwhile.

Since NFL kneelers have not done sufficient homework concerning police brutality here in the U.S., they most likely have not heard of the story in the UK of Sarah (not her real name for reasons that will be made clear) and many more like her.

Tragically, what happened to Sarah could have been stopped by proper police action. Unfortunately, since it was not, it turned into a national tragedy.

Message Marketing Will Be the Next Great Performance Marketing Tool "IndyWatch Feed Tech"

Texting.  Its literally the most used form of communication on earth.  Over 20 billion texts are sent per day.  Its the most used app on any smartphone and a staple service of any digital phone or device. Whether it be SMS, Messenger, WhatsApp or any other direct communication tool, texting is part of the human fabric.

Despite this, it is an incredibly underutilized marketing medium.  Marketers sense the almost limitless potential of messaging but, to date, few capitalize on it.  That will soon change. Why? Three factors will drive the change Facebook, Rich Communication Services (RCS), and the rediscovering of SMS as a marketing platform.  Lets start with Facebook.

Facebook

Zuck and company are coming under increased pressure to mine revenue from their $19 billion WhatsApp acquisition as well as from their native messaging app, Messenger. WhatsApp boasts a 1.5 billion user audience while Messenger is a close second at 1.3 billion, yet neither are producing any serious revenue.  During their Q2 earnings call, Facebook was again challenged with how they will monetize their Messenger and WhatsApp audiences. Facebook COO, Sherly Sandberg, responded that we are furthest ahead in Messenger, but its still very early days. Further, she added that Facebook is building out a business ecosystem for WhatsApp that would enable businesses to communicate privately with customers.  Facebook is also developing Facebook ads that click to WhatsApp. A user who clicks on the ad will be driven to a pre-filled WhatsApp chat within the app. And this is just the beginning. When the dam finally breaks on these two services, the messaging marketing landscape will be greatly redefined.

Rich Communication Services (RCS)

RCS is a protocol started in 2007 designed to supplant SMS.  SMS is currently only text-based and limited to 160 characters.  RCS seeks to add group chats, audio and video sending capabilities, high-resolution image sending, and the ability to receive read receipts as well as additional interactive features.  To get a flavor, see this video.  As the video suggests, RCS could be a true one-to-one marketing tool that leverages the high interaction metrics of SMS with the power of richer applications like WhatsApp and Messenger without the need to download those said apps or even own a smartphone.  The applications are nearly limitless better customer interactions, higher retention, and increased ability to up-sell/cross-sell current customers as well as effectively retain new ones.

Apples iMessage already has many of the RCS features but Google is looking to leapfrog the smartphone pioneer, working with nearly every mobile provider and Android device manufacturer to roll out their RCS offering, Chat (see chart below).  Cha...

Hypocrisy and Accusations of Hypocrisy "IndyWatch Feed Nthamerica"

It is time for Argument Clinic to tackle one of the most important topics in argumentation today: how to deal with a hypocrite.

Is this the right room for an argument

Hypocrisy is when you say something that you yourself do, is bad, in a context of criticizing someone else for doing it.

Donald Trump is fond of leading chants of lock her up! and calling his peers names like some kind of schoolyard bully. For him to flip around and suddenly act as though civility matters, or discourse should be courteous, is a perfect illustration of hypocrisy. And Trump is a perfect vehicle through which we can analyze the hypocrite and our response to them.

Our first reaction might be to simply call them hypocrite! and assume that the label, once applied, is going to do some rhetorical damage. But we dont recommend accusing others of hypocrisy, as a strategy for a simple reason: they almost certainly dont care. They wouldnt be hypocrites if they cared about philosophy, or fairness, or truth so the fact that they are willing to be so obviously inconsistent in a public forum only shows you that theyll do more of it if they want to.

In other words, its very important to recognize when you are dealing with a hypocrite because its important information. But yelling hypocrite! at them is wasting your breath. You need to register the important fact that you are dealing with a hypocrite, and adjust your style of argumentation accordingly. Hypocrisy reveals these facts about your opponent:

  • They are not concerned with truth (or may not be acquainted with it)
  • They are willing to say anything in order to score points
  • They are either a nihilist or a sociopath; a nihilist would be someone who is a hypocrite and knows it and doesnt care, a sociopath is someone who is so disconnected from cultural norms that they dont know or care what they are saying

The worst-case scenario is that you point a finger at a self-aware nihilist and call them a hypocrite and they reply, yeah, Im just saying whatever I want to, in order to manipulate you. I dont believe anything. Trump is not self-aware; he is some kind of natural, reflexive, uncaring, pathological liar. He lies even when it doesnt help him. Therefore, he doesnt care about lying. If you call him...

Its dj vu for orangutans, devastated by climate change and hunting once before "IndyWatch Feed Enviro"

Orangutans face a changing climate and are hemmed in by a growing human population using novel technologies to hunt them down. Its a situation they have been in before 20,000 years ago. A recent paper suggests that research about what happened in the past can inform conservation strategies today. In Orangutans venture out of the rainforest and into the Anthropocene, published in June in Science Advances, Stephanie N. Spehar of the University of Wisconsin, Oshkosh, and her colleagues survey evidence about the past interactions of humans and orangutans reaching back tens of thousands of years. In highlighting just how long humans and orangutans have been interacting, it suggests that co-existence is possible, but it needs to be planned for. Orangutans have been impacted by humans for a long time much longer than we might have assumed previously, Spehar says. Thats important because it helps us to understand what the major threats to orangutans are now in this age when humans are having greater impacts than ever before. That understanding, the authors conclude, needs to incorporate a broader view of managing landscapes and more attention to the mostly neglected effects of hunting. Mozilla hat ihren Update-Service auditieren lassen ... "IndyWatch Feed Europe"

  (size_t)(uint1+uint2)
Selbe Annahme, genau so falsch.

Knee-high bracken ferns spread broad flat fronds at the edges of thickets, where seedling pines and cedars poke out of the undergrowth. Towering above them are 30-meter (100-foot) tanoak trees. U.S. Threatening First Strike on Russia "IndyWatch Feed World"

US Ambassador to NATO Kay Bailey Hutchison is a highly placed diplomat. Her words, whatever they may be, are official, which includes the ultimatums and threats that have become the language increasingly used by US diplomats to implement the policy of forceful persuasion or coercive diplomacy. Bellicose declarations are being used this way as a tool.

On Oct. 2, the ambassador proved it again. According to her statement, Washington is ready to use force against Russia. Actually, she presented an ultimatum Moscow must stop the development of a missile that the US believes to be in violation of the Intermediate-Range Nuclear Forces Treaty (INF Treaty). If not, the American military will destroy it before the weapon becomes operational.

At that point, we would be looking at the capability to take out a (Russian) missile that could hit any of our countries, Hutchison stated at a news conference. Counter measures (by the United States) would be to take out the missiles that are in development by Russia in violation of the treaty, she added. They are on notice. This is nothing other than a direct warning of a preemptive strike.

Russia extremely bothered by this

It is true that compliance with the INF Treaty is a controversial issueMoscow has many times claimed that Washington was in violation, and that position has been substantiated.

For instance, the Aegis Ashore system, which has been installed in Romania and is to be deployed in Poland, uses the Mk-41 launcher that is capable of firing intermediate-range Tomahawk missiles. This is a flagrant breach of the INF Treaty. The fact is undeniable.

The US accuses Moscow of possessing and testing a ground-launched cruise missile with a range capability of 500 km to 5,500 km (310-3,417 miles), but there has never been any proof to support this claim. Russia has consistently denied the charges. It says the missile in question the 9M729 is in compliance with the provisions of the treaty and has never been upgraded or tested for the prohibited range.

One is not supreme to the other, but on a biological scale, they are not equal. To deny the basic differences like hormone production and the fact that females can get pregnant is to deny nature itself. However, this hasn't stopped people from trying to wipe these biological differences out with controversial programs.

Storekeepers join truckers strike as Iran unrest grows "IndyWatch Feed War"

Store operators in bazaars across Iran have joined a strike by truck drivers as civil unrest grows in the face of a collapsing economy.

The protest by merchants began in the city of Shiraz and spread rapidly to more than 50 cities in 21 provinces.

Photos posted online by opposition activists showed shops with their shutters pulled down during normal working hours in Karaj, 50 km west of Tehran. Stores were also closed in Tabriz, Isfahan, Ardabil and the southern city of Qeshm.

The merchants are protesting against rising prices, the declining value of the Iranian rial and other economic grievances.

They have joined truck drivers in 300 Iranian cities who have been on strike for nearly three weeks in protest at low wages and the soaring cost of spare parts for their vehicles, especially tires.

Again, videos and photos posted online showed factories in Fars Province forced to load goods onto small pick-up trucks because of the drivers strike, and trucks were parked idle in loading terminals in Doroud in Lorestan province after truckers and tanker drivers refused to work, the US-based opposition website Iran News Wire reported.

Iranian authorities have arrested more than 200 striking truck drivers and accused them of being bandits. A court in Qazvin province has demanded the death penalty for 17 of those detained, according to the state-run IRNA news agency.

At the heart of the civil unrest is a collapsing economy after US President Donald Trump withdrew in May from the 2015 deal to curb Irans nuclear program, and reimposed economic sanctions in August. Further sanctions targeting Irans oil trade come into effect on Nov. 4.

The truck drivers protests are an extension of other demonstrations and uprisings that have been taking place throughout the year, the Iranian-American Harvard scholar Dr. Majid Rafizadeh told Arab News.

Much of the Iranian population is facing dire economic conditions. This misalignment between their fortunes and those of the Iranian regime has contributed to the sentiments expressed in the latest protests. Many of the thousands of demonstrators blame the regimes political and financial corruption, support for foreign militia groups, mismanagement of public funds, and military adventurism across the region for a significant portion of the hardships they are facing.
