Smart cities are exposed to old-school threats "IndyWatch Feed Tech"

Spurred by the false alarm that made Hawaii residents fear for their lives earlier this year, IBM X-Force Red and Threatcare researchers have decided to test several smart city devices and ultimately found 17 zero-day vulnerabilities, some of which could be exploited to create potentially deadly chaos. While we were prepared to dig deep to find vulnerabilities, our initial testing yielded some of the most common security issues, such as default passwords, authentication bypass and More

In Ecuador, a pipeline cuts a trail of misery through indigenous land "IndyWatch Feed Enviro"

SAN JOS DE WISUY, Ecuador One morning in November 2015, one of the elders, or taitas, of the Siona indigenous community in San Jos de Wisuy, in Ecuadors Sucumbos province, heard strange noises in the rainforest near his home. When he went to see what was happening, he found a team of workers using machinery to clear the forest to create an access road. It was all knocked down near his house. They didnt leave anything, says one of the leaders of the community, located by the Putumayo River, which separates Ecuador and Colombia in the Amazon. The workers gave no explanation, but the discovery of their work was the beginning of a series of complaints from the Siona community against the oil companies Amerisur Resources and PetroAmazonas. Amerisur is a British company that operates in Colombia, and PetroAmazonas is a state-owned Ecuadoran company that searches for and extracts oil. Members of the Siona community say the companies work has caused environmental damage that has also led to spiritual harm. More than two years after the Siona community complained about this invasion of their territory, neither the Ministry of Environment, the state ombudsman, nor the local ombudsman (defensor del pueblo), have resolved their case. Silence from the oil companies Amerisur has operated in Colombia since 2003, and one of the oil fields that it works, Platanillo, is located in the department of Putumayo, across the border from Ecuador. The Platanillo oil field has a long history of armed conflict.

Prayer and Meditation for Friday, August 10, 2018 Whoever sows bountifully will also reap bountifully We have everything we need "IndyWatch Feed War"

St. Lawrence in stained glass window by Franz Mayer & Co.. He is holding a palm branch, a symbol for martyrdom, and a griddle, the instrument of his death.

Saint Lawrence or Laurence (LatinLaurentiuslit. laurelled; 31 December AD 225[1]  10 August 258) was one of the seven deacons of the city of RomeItaly, under Pope Sixtus II who were martyred in the persecution of the Christians that the Roman Emperor Valerian ordered in 258.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Saint_Lawrence

The year was 258 A.D. It was a difficult beginning for what would become the First Christian Millennium. Hostility against the early followers of Jesus Christ was growing. The barbarism and severity of pagan Rome had begun to reach a fever pitch. It would soon lead to a blood lust. The newborn Christian Church, faithful to the One who had given Himself for the life of the world, continued the work of His redemption.

Roman authorities charged Christians of that era with odium humani generis [hatred of the human race]. The Romans claimed to be citizens of a great empire, yet they practiced primitive forms of abortion as well as exposure, the killing of unwanted newborns.

First and Second century Rome was a challenging mission field for these early Christians. Rome proclaimed itself the shining example to the world of its age while it violated the Natural Moral Law and embraced debauchery. Sound familiar?

The day that Deacon Lawrence experienced his birth from death to life was an ominous and frightful day in ancient Rome....

TV Review: Documenting Hate: Charlottesville "IndyWatch Feed Nthamerica"

This week will see the anniversary of the Unite the Right rally of white supremacists and neo-Nazis that took place in Charlottesville, Virginia on August 11 and 12, 2017. The same people wanted to hold an anniversary rally in Charlottesville but their application for a permit was turned down. But their application to hold a rally in Washington, DC was approved by the National Park Service and they are planning what they call a White Civil Rights Rally this weekend in front of the White House. No word yet if Donald Trump has been invited to address the groups, since they clearly see him as a supporter. But a coalition of 18 groups under the umbrella DC Against Hate plan a massive counter-protest. This has again reignited the debate as to the best way to deal with hate groups: whether to ignore them and that, starved of attention, they will disappear, or that letting them to do their thing with impunity just emboldens them.

Two nights ago I watched the premiere of the above documentary on PBS TV. It has been produced by a collaboration of two investigative journalist outfits ProPublica and Frontline and is based on a series of ProPublica reports led by A. C. Thompson that delves into the neo-Nazi and other white supremacy movement in the US, to find out who its members are, why they joined, and their goals. It is the first of a two-part series with the second part to be released in the fall. You can see the full documentary here. Heres a taste of what you will see in the documentary.

It starts with the clashes in Charlottesville last year that were triggered by the arrival in that town of what organizers proudly claimed was the largest gathering of such neo-Nazis, who were protesting the decision to remove a statue of confederate general Robert E. Lee. You may recall the night time march of mostly young people holding tiki torches and chanting You will not replace us and Jews will not replace us that resulted in violence when they surrounded and assaulted a small group of counter-protestors, followed by bigger clashes the next day that resulted in Heather Heyer being killed and 28 others injured when a neo-Nazi drove through the crowds. The documentary shows the police just standing there while the clashes unfolded, even when a young black man was brutally beaten on the street within yards of them. The police were unmoved by calls from bystanders to do your job and stop the assault. As Thompson says:

The violence had been escalating all weeke...

Captive Audience: How Florida's Prisons and DRM Made $11.3M Worth of Prisoners' Music Disappear "IndyWatch Feed Tech"

The Florida Department of Corrections is one of the many state prison systems that rely on private contractors to supply electronic messaging and access to electronic music files and books for prisoners.

For seven years, Floridas prisoners have bought music through Access Corrections, a company that took in $11.3 million selling songs at $1.70 eachnearly twice what the typical song costs on the marketplaces available to people who arent incarcerated. This is hardly exceptional: prisons also charge extremely high rates for phone calls. The FCC briefly capped this at $1/minute (much higher than normal calling rates), only to have the Trump FCC abandon the policy rather than fight a court challenge.

Florida prisoners used Access Corrections $100 MP3 players to listen to their music purchases and access their other digital files. But the Florida Department of Corrections has terminated its contract with Access Corrections in favor of the notorious industry-leader Jpay, a company that once claimed ownership of inmates correspondence with their families, and had inmates who violated the companys lengthy terms of service punished with solitary confinement, and who became notorious for selling digital postage stamps to prisoners who want message their loved ones (prisoners need to spend one postage stamp per page of electronic text, and the price of postage stamps goes up around Mothers Day).

(Jpay is a division of Securus, a company notorious for selling and even giving away access to US and Canadian cellphone location data, without a warrant, and without notice to the tracked individuals.)

Neither Jpay nor Access Corrections have offered prisoners any way to move their music purchases from the old devices to the new ones. Prison rules ban prisoners from owning more than o...

France condemns Hamas rocket fire, urges restraint and lifting of blockade

France issues a statement condemning the firing of rockets toward Israel and urging restraintby all parties.

France deplores the escalation of violence between Israel and the Gaza Strip. It condemns the firing of rockets toward Israel and would like restraint to prevail and the ceasefire to be upheld by all parties in order to prevent further civilian casualties, the statement says.

These incidents underscore the urgent need to work toward finding a lasting political solution for Gaza and to respond effectively to the humanitarian crisis affecting the Palestinian population.

It also calls for a lifting of the Israeli-Egyptian blockade on Gaza.

This notably requires the lifting of the blockade, on the one hand while respecting Israels security concerns and the achievement of inter-Palestinian reconciliation and the full return of the Palestinian Authority to Gaza, on the other.

France, in collaboration with its European partners, will remain fully mobilized to support efforts to that end.

The Evolution of the Big Falcon Rocket "IndyWatch Feed Tech"

On September 29th, 2017, SpaceX CEO Elon Musk unveiled detailed plans of the Big Falcon Rocket at the 68th International Astronautical Congress in Adelaide, Australia. It was a follow-up speech to the prior years presentation when he first discussed the architecture of what was then called the Interplanetary Transport System. In his highly anticipated speech, Musk laid out the detailed plans for a two stage rocket to enable the colonization of Mars, a moon base, and hypersonic long-distance travel on Earth.

The design featured an enormous Booster that would be powered by 31 Raptor engines, planned to be the worlds most advanced and highest pressure chemical rocket engine. Following stage separation, the booster would return to Earth and land near or on the launch pad.

There were three variants of the rockets second stage planned: a Spaceship, Tanker and Cargo Lifter. The primary of which, the BFR Spaceship, was also the colonization vehicle and that could carry up to 100 passengers and a hundred tonnes of cargo. One possible use of the Spaceship was as the worlds first hypersonic passenger transport vehicle, which would enable travel between any two points on Earth in under an hour. Its primary envisioned mission, however, was to be a colonization vehicle for the Moon, Mars and beyond.

No doubt about it: The deep state is real and Trump is its latest tool "IndyWatch Feed Nthamerica"

Behind the ostensible government sits enthroned an invisible government, owing no allegiance and acknowledging no responsibility to the people. Theodore Roosevelt

There are those who would have you believe that President Trump is an unwitting victim of the Deep State.

And then there are those who insist that the Deep State is a figment of a conspiratorial mind.

Dont believe it.

The Deep Statea.k.a. the police state, a.k.a. the military industrial complex, a.k.a. the surveillance state complexdoes indeed exist and Trump, far from being its sworn enemy, is its latest tool.

When in doubt, follow the money trail.

It always points the way.

Every successive president starting with Franklin D. Roosevelt has been boughtlock, stock and barreland made to dance to the tune of the Deep State.

Even Dwight D. Eisenhower, the retired five-star Army general-turned-president who warned against the disastrous rise of misplaced power by the military industrial complex was complicit in contributing to the build-up of the militarys role in dictating national and international policy.

Enter Donald Trump, the candidate who swore to drain the swamp in Washington DC.

Instead of putting an end to the corruption, however, Trump has paved the way for lobbyists, corporations, the military industrial complex, and the rest of the Deep State (also referred to as The 7th Floor Group) to feast on the carcass of the dying American republic.

Apart from tweets that are little more than sound and fury, Trump is not a man who is raging against the machine.

Week of Action to Save the Mattoles Ancient Forest August 25 to 31 "IndyWatch Feed Enviro"

submitted to Earth First! Newswire

The time to act is now!

Earth First! Humboldt invites all forest defenders young and old, near and far to a Week of Action from August 25th 31st to protect the ancient forest of the Mattole River.

The threat of forest destruction on Rainbow Ridge is more eminent than ever after the violent security contractor raid and take down of the years-long forest protection blockade camp.

We are putting the call out to assemble for rallies and direct action to keep the trees standing. Come for one day or stick with it all week, there will be camping available for out-of-towners.

Inspired by the non-violent mass mobilizations of Redwood Summer in 1990, the Mattole Forest Week of Action is being organized as an opportunity for people to gather together and be supported while taking action for what they believe in.

Contrary to what the corporations want the public to think, the timber wars never ended as the fight to protect the Mattoles forest is entering its 20th year of direct action. The Mattole Forest Week of Action is a continuation of this historical struggle to save the last old growth forests still untouched by industrial logging. This week will not mark the final actions to these logging projects but rather it is a rising tide of growing resistance.

Lets show Humboldt Redwood Company even though they may take down our blockades and threaten our safety, they cannot break our spirits and with every destructive action the resistance keeps growing stronger.

This is a call out for all wild creatures who love this planet to show up, speak up and act out on behalf of this precious ecosystem.

On Saturday we will host a Non-Violent Direct Action training to prepare for a week of rolling actions to defend the forest. Come prepared and ready to follow your interests whether you are rallying in front of the gates, creating protest art and signs, or taking direct actions in the woods.

We are asking folks to show up as...

Anthropocene vs Meghalayanwhy geologists are fighting over whether humans are a force of nature "IndyWatch Feed Tech"

The Earth discovered it was living in a new slice of time called the Meghalayan Age in July 2018. But the announcement by the International Union of Geological Sciences (IUGS) confused and angered scientists all around the world.

In the 21st century, it claimed, we are still officially living in the Holocene Epoch, the warm period that began 11,700 years ago after the last ice age. But not only that: within the Holocene, we are also living in this new age the Meghalayan and it began 4,250 years ago.

Over the past decade, more and more scientists have agreed that on Earth is so significant that we have entered a completely new geological phase, called the Anthropocene, including a group convened to agree a formal definition. The world of science was expecting an official announcement acknowledging this Anthropocene Epoch, not the unheard-of Meghalayan Age. It was so unexpected it turned up zero hits on Google when first reported. So whats going on?

The story of Dareen Tatour is the story of Falasteen "IndyWatch Feed War"

Everything about the trial of Dareen Tatour was like fiction. Everything required the willing suspension of disbelief.

From the opening pages, it was impossible to digest the premise that an unknown young poet from a small town in the Galilee would be hauled off by Israeli police and border guards for a smattering of posts on the internet.

By page two, the story became more and more farfetched. What seasoned, judicious reader could buy into the idea that the protagonist would be interrogated, imprisoned, and criminally charged for saying the same things that millions of people around the world say every single day, only with more urgency and flair?

Page three, page four, fivethe narrative became so heavy-handed and inept that all but a handful of true believers had to slam the book shut with exasperation. Khalas. Bikaffeh. Enough.

To get the truth, sometimes you have to quit and start from scratch.

Everything about the story of Dareen Tatour is the story of Falasteen.

And it is important to say the Arabic word here because it was in Arabicnot English, not Hebrewthat Dareen penned the words that would be mishandled and mangled in court, just as they have been since the dawn of the Nakba in Falasteen, when, as Darwish wrote, swords tore through her body and turned her into a table.

By the power of the gun and by the power of the same racist legal system that convicted Dareen Tatour, the town of Besan was renamed Beit Shean; Saffuriya became Zippori. Qira wa Qamun became Yokneam; Tantura was replaced by Dor and Nachsholim.

Portland City Hall stormed, shutdown, by activists "IndyWatch Feed Nthamerica"

Alt-left activists who stormed Portland City Hall on Wednesday to take a stand against police brutality found themselves in a violent scuffle of their own which resulted in several arrests and injuries.

During the aggressive confrontation, Mayor Ted Wheeler and others were forced to walk out of a scheduled meeting and find a more secure conference room in which no one was allowed to enter and two security guards suffered minor injuries from the conflict as reported by KTVZ 21.

One demonstrator, who was masked and wearing a baseball helmet, smashed a security guard over the head repeatedly with a megaphone. The guard was seen afterward clutching a bag of ice, a bruise beginning to form on his cheek., The Oregonian reported. City Hall security chief Dorothy Elmore said she was also struck by a protester, in the arm.

Foul-mouthed activists could be heard yelling Fyou, Fyou at city officials who were brave enough to greet them at the buildings entrance.

This all comes after a number of the ANTIFA-type communists were rounded up by the department during recent protests.

The war to destroy Alex Jones, Part 3

by Jon Rappoport

(To join our email list, click here.)

(For Part 2, click here)

When several big-tech companies remove a person from their platforms in a 12-hour period, which is what happened to Alex Jones, you need to ask:

Where are the specific violations Jones is charged with?

Where is the bill of particulars against him?

Where is the hate speech he is accused of spewing to his audience?

What definition (if any) of hate speech is being used as a measuring stick?

Asking those questions, you come up very short on answers.

Jones is being made into a SYMBOL of a hater by social media and the mainstream pressand when THAT is the objective, the whole idea is to avoid specifics and just smear the target with a very broad and general brush.

Hate speech is replacing the 1st Amendment as a standard of judgment. The question now is: did you express hate toward someone? Rather than: did you commit slander or libel?

Did you utter something that could offend and might disturb a victim or victim-group? Yes? YOURE BANNED. CENSORED. Of course, social media giants decide what constitutes hate and who is designated a victim-group with protected status.

The term hate speech is very elastic. Its definition can be changed on a moments notice.

Dont like someone?

Upset at their actual ideas?

Disturbed at their success?

Embroil them in charges of being a hater and expressing hatred toward victims. Ban and censor them from online platforms based on that accusation. Ignore millions of their wordsinstead, invoke a few outbursts they committed over the years.

And finally, make the conversation all about whether the accusedin this case, Jonesis good or not, is honest or not, is caring or not, is worthy or notAS IF THE ANSWERS TO THOSE QUESTIONS WOULD DECIDE WHETHER BANNING JONES FROM ONLNE PLATFORMS WAS A CORRECT ACTION.

And toss the brain-challenged a bonepermis...

The VU Meter and How It Got That Way "IndyWatch Feed Tech"

Given its appearance in one form or another in all but the cheapest audio gear produced in the last 70 years or so, youd be forgiven for thinking that the ubiquitous VU meter is just one of those electronic add-ons thats more a result of marketing than engineering. After all, the seemingly arbitrary scale and the vague volume units label makes it seem like something a manufacturer would slap on a device just to make it look good. And while that no doubt happens, it turns out that the concept of a VU meter and its execution has some serious engineering behind that belies the really simple question it seeks to answer: How loud is this audio signal?

Miles of Cable

Unsurprisingly, the modern VU meter can trace its roots back to the twin formative technologies of the 20th century: telephone and radio. For the first time in history, the human voice was projecting further than the distance the loudest person could shout, and doing so by means of electrical signals. Finding a way to quantify that signal and turn it into a value that represented the perceived volume of the original sound was crucial to design a system that could faithfully transmit it.

Given the nature of their network, the early telephone pioneers efforts at sound level metering were based on line losses over a standard mile of cable. Meters calibrated to this standard made it easy for them to adjust their vacuum tube repeaters to compensate for the speech power loss over a known length of wire.

As radio became commercialized and more widespread, the correlation between sound levels and loop length began to make less sense. In the 1920s, radio and telephone engineers began to converge on a better solution. The transmission unit (TU) was used to measure the power ratio between two different sound sources. Its a logarithmic measure, and as such better reflects how the human ear perceives sounds. The TU measurement also had the advantage of being usable at any frequency since it doesnt factor in the inductance and capacitance of a miles-long loop of wire.

Many TU meters were marketed over the 1920s and 1930s to sound engineers, whose ranks swelled when the film industry introduced talkies. There was no real standardization, however, and it was becoming increasingly hard to compare sound levels between industries, and often between different pieces of sound equipment. In the late 1930s broadcasters, motion picture companies, and the telephone industry all got together to hammer out a standard that could be used for all audio signal measurement needs. They dubbed the new measurement Volume Units, and the VU meter was born.

Dianne Feinstein was an easy mark for Chinas spy "IndyWatch Feed War"

Its clear Feinstein has an alarming blind spot when it comes to China and national security.

As vice chair of the Senate Judiciary Committee and a ranking member of the Senate Intelligence Committee, Dianne Feinstein (D-Calif.) has been investigating allegations of President Trumps collusion with Russia.

But now we learn Feinstein may be the one compromised by a foreign power.

Turns out that Communist China had a spy in her office. A 20-year employee of Feinsteins, the agent had been reporting back to Chinas Ministry of State Security for well over a decade before he was caught in 2013, according to the FBI.

By Paul Sperry
Opinion

A Chinese-American who doubled as both an office staffer and Feinsteins personal driver, the agent reportedly was handled by officials based out of the Peoples Republic of Chinas consulate in San Francisco, which Feinstein helped set up when she was mayor of that city. He even attended consulate functions for the senator.

Feinstein says she took the staffer off her payroll immediately after the FBI informed her five years ago that her office had been infiltrated by Chinese intelligence, and agents had identified the mole in a briefing. In a statement, the Democratic senator insisted he had no access to sensitive information and that he was never charged with espionage.

In June 1996 after the staffer had begun working for Feinstein the FBI detected that the Chinese government was attempting to seek favor with the senator, who at the time sat on the East Asian and Pacific affairs subcommittee of the Foreign Relations Committee, which oversees US-China relations. Investigators warned her in a classified briefing that Beijing might try to influence her through illegal campaign contributions laundered through front corporations and other cutouts.

The warning proved prescient.

One Chinese bagman, Nanping-born John Huang, showed up at Feinsteins San Francisco home for a fundraising dinner with a Beijing official tied to the Peoples Bank of China and the Communist Party Committee. As a foreign national, the official wasnt legally qualified to make the $50,000-a-plate donation to dine at the banquet.

Israel tells cancer patients trapped in Gaza to get treated in West Bank, where there is no cancer treatment "IndyWatch Feed War"

Gaza

Israel proposes Gaza cancer patients be treated in West Bank, where treatment is unavailable
Haaretz 8 Aug by Amira Hass The procedures needed by six women in Gaza are not done in the West Bank, but only in East Jerusalem, where Israel wont let them go The state is willing to allow six women cancer patients to leave the Gaza Strip for the West Bank for treatment that is not available in the West Bank, or to go abroad for treatment they cannot afford. However, it will not allow the women, who are severely ill, to go to either of two Palestinian hospitals in East Jerusalem which can treat them. The state prosecutors office informed the NGO Gisha of its decision in a letter, referring to a High Court of Justice petition seeking to overturn the ban on seven women patients leaving the Gaza Strip because they are first degree relatives of Hamas members   The criterion of family relationship to a Hamas member as an official reason to prevent patients leaving the Gaza Strip for treatment is relatively new. It was added in response to a demand by the family of Hadar Goldin, who was killed in the 2014 Gaza war and whose remains are still being held by Hamas. In January 2017 the security cabinet voted to cut the number of humanitarian exit permits to Hamas members and their relatives as one way of pressuring the organization to release two Israeli civilians who entered the Gaza Strip years ago and to return the bodies of the soldiers killed, Goldin and Shaul Oron.

Sen. Dianne Feinstein employed SPY for communist China as office manager for 20 years, during which 20 CIA operatives were murdered "IndyWatch Feed Nthamerica"

U.S. Senator Dianne Feinstein is in the hot seat, now that the public knows she employed a Chinese spy for over 20 years. Early reports indicated the spy was only a driver for the senator, but new reports have revealed that Russel Lowe, named as the spy in question, was actually employed as her office manager.

To make matters worse, it turns out that Feinstein first learned that Lowe was a Chinese operative in 2013, while she was the Chairman of the Senate Intelligence Committee. Lowe is a Chinese-American and worked alongside Feinstein as her aide for 20 years, though he is now Secretary General of the Education for Social Justice Foundation. As this shocking story unravels, it only continues to get darker: A report from Business Insider shows that dozens of CIA operatives were imprisoned or killed by China, and many operations were thwarted by the Chinese government during the time Lowe was employed.

CIA operations in China take a hit

In 2017, Business Insider reported that up to 20 CIA sources were imprisoned or killed by the Chinese between the years 2010 and 2012. At the time of that report, the source of the massive intelligence breach had not been identified, but now, some are wondering if Russel Lowe could somehow be connected to the plot. CIA officials were divided on whether or not the breach had been carried out by an unidentified spy or by way of hacking into the CIAs communication system. As reported:

The Chinese killed at least a dozen people providing information to the CIA from 2010 through 2012, dismantling a network that was years in the making, the newspaper reported.

One was shot and killed in front of a government building in China, three officials told the Times, saying that was designed as a message to others about working with Washington.

The breach was considered particularly damaging, with the number of assets lost rivaling those in the Soviet Union and Russia who perished after information passed to Moscow by spies Aldrich Ames and Robert Hanssen, the report said. Ames was active as a spy in the 1980s and Hanssen from 1979 to 2001

Is it all connected?

The FBI and the CIA joined forces to investigate the matter as more sources were killed or arrested. U.S. Intelligence officials stated that Chinas scheme for identifying American age...

The Poop of 100,000 Cows May be to Blame for a Deadly Romaine Lettuce E. Coli Outbreak "IndyWatch Feed Tech"

Arthur T Knackerbracket has found the following story:

Manure from a high-density cattle farm that holds upward of 100,000 cows may have been the source of a deadly Escherichia coli strain that found its way onto romaine lettuce and caused a massive outbreak earlier this year. That's according to a new hypothesis announced this week by the Food and Drug Administration.

The bacterium behind the outbreak was a particularly nasty strain of Shiga toxin-producing Escherichia coli O157:H7 that produces only Shiga toxin type 2 (Stx2), the more toxic of two types of toxins E. coli tends to carry. Stx2 causes cell death, triggers immune responses, and leads to the destruction of red blood cells, which can damage the kidneys.

Such Shiga-toxin producing E. coli are shed from the guts of animals (particularly cattle) and are spread by feces.

Traceback investigations by federal authorities linked the illnesses to romaine lettuce grown in the Yuma region of Arizona. Further work found that the outbreak stain was present in canal water running along farms. That pointed experts to the idea that tainted canal water was used for irrigation, literally showering crops with deadly germs.

In the new update, the FDA notes that a Concentrated Animal Feeding Operation (CAFO) is located nearby to a cluster of romaine lettuce farms. Such high-density farms are notorious for causing water quality issues. Thus, poopy runoff from the CAFO may have contaminated the canal water, which then made its way onto vegetables directly through irrigation or some other indirect route. The FDA noted that it has been pondering other hypotheses, but it didn't outline what those were.

The real occupation is Zionism, Ahed Tamimi explains "IndyWatch Feed War"

On Monday, the now legendary Palestinian teenager Ahed Tamimi was interviewed on Democracy Now! by Amy Goodman and Nermeen Shaikh.

And what an interview. 34 minutes, and the 17-year-old Ahed, who just got out of jail after 8 months for slapping an Israeli soldier, is as sharp as a knife, mild, succinct, exact, focused, warm but never overly emotional. She has a seriousness and a maturity that can be hard to find in many adults. It is just so inspiring. Israel has good reason to fear her. Not for her slapping soldiers really but for her clear mind, that cuts through so much of the nonsense that Israel, and indeed Zionism, have managed to inculcate in the world as Hasbara, to complicate things so that they would not be resolved.

Ahed had some things to say about Zionism, very clear things.

AMY GOODMAN: You have made a distinction, Ahed, between Jews and Zionism. Can you explain the difference?

AHED TAMIMI: [translated] There is a huge difference between Judaism and Zionism. Judaism is a religion. You know, its just like Islam. Its just like Christianity. But Zionism, thats the occupation. Thats the killing. Thats what closes checkpoints. Thats what detains innocent people. Thats all Zionism thats causing this conflict with Palestinians.

Lets just pause there and look at this. I think its huge. Notice, Amy Goodman is asking about Jews, Ahed is answering about Judaism so for Ahed this is clearly a non-personal issue, an ideological one. And shes clear about what Judaism is a religion. Its separate to Zionism, which is indirectly understood as political ideology the political ideology and policy that drives Israel. And what does that ideology do? It occupies. That phrase, But Zionism, thats the occupation is worth further zooming in on. Because here, Ahed is saying, that this is not just what Israel and its Zionism do, its what they ARE. I have been trying to make this point many times in the past, for example in this piece titled The issue isnt the occupation, its Zionism . Ahed is making it more concisely. Shes saying, its Zionism that is doing all this, causing all this conflict, and notably, shes saying that its not Jews or Judaism as such that are doing it. It takes some moral fortitude to make that distinction, when you are confronted day in and day out by soldiers of the Nation State of the Jewish People.

Liberal-Zionists are going to have a hard time with this one. They have been insisting that the 1967 occupation is a thing in and of itself, which just happened at some point, and can ostensibly be reversed without addressing Zionism as such. In fact, they believe tha...

Turkey to set out new economic model as lira tumbles "IndyWatch Feed War"

Currency drops to record low after Washington meeting fails to show progress on US rift

Turkey expects growth next year to be between 3% and 4%; its previous forecast was 5.5% growth Getty

By Ayla Jean Yackley in Istanbul and Roger Blitz and Adam Samson in London

Turkey said it would set out a new economic plan as its currency dropped to a record low and pressure mounted on Ankara to reassure investors and resolve an escalating dispute with the US.

After a Turkish delegation to Washington failed to show progress towards the lifting of US sanctions, the lira fell to a new low of TL5.4477 against the dollar, representing a 3.1 per cent decline from its overnight position.

The currency has now lost 30 per cent since the start of the year, including a decline of 7.6 per cent in the past six trading days

Ankara said Berat Albayrak, finance minister, would announce a new economic model on Friday and suggested that the government would seek to cool the economy to address investors concerns about unbalanced growth and excessive dependency on short-term funds from abroad.

The statement fell short of reassuring the markets. The lira had recovered half its on-the-day losses before the finance ministry made its announcement, but the sell-off resumed afterwards. By early afternoon in European trading, the lira had fallen back to TL5.4040, still more than 2 per cent down on its level at the start of the day.

Markets have signalled deep concern about the consequences of the rift with the Trump administration and Washingtons imposition of sanctions on its Nato ally, and about the stewardship of the economy under President Recep Tayyip Erdogan and Mr Albayrak, his son-in-law.

But there was no indication on Thursday morning that talks at the US state department had made progress on settling Turkeys dispute with Washington, which centres on Ankaras detention of a US pastor.

In an emailed statement, the finance ministry said it planned to hold the budget deficit this year to less than 2 per cent of gross domestic product and that it expected growth next year to be between 3 per cent and 4 per cent, less than its previous forecast of 5.5 per cent growth for both this year and the next.

The ministry said it expected the current account deficit, which was 5.6 per cent of GDP last year, to be less than 4 per cent next year and that inflation, currently about 15 per cent, would return to single digits in a short period of time.

It also said it did not...

Americans live in a world of lies "IndyWatch Feed Nthamerica"

The US government and the presstitutes that serve it continue to lie to us about everything. Today the Bureau of Labor Statistics told us that the unemployment rate was 3.9%. How can this be when the BLS also reports that the labor force participation rate has declined for a decade throughout the length of the alleged economic recovery and there is no upward pressure on wages from full employment. When jobs are plentiful, people enter the labor force to take advantage of the work opportunities. This raises the labor force participation rate. When employment is fullwhich is what a 3.9% unempoyment rate meanswages are bid up as employers compete for scarce labor. Full employment with no wage pressure and no rise in the labor force participation rate is impossible.

The 3.9% unemployment rate is not due to employment. It results from not counting discouraged workers who have ceased to search for jobs because there are no jobs to be had. If an unemployed person is not actively searching for a job, he is not counted as being in the labor force. The way the unemployment rate is measured makes it a hoax.

The government tells us that there is essentially no inflation despite the fact that prices have been rising stronglythe price of food, the price of home repairs, the price of drugs, the price of almost everything. Two years ago the American Association of Retired Peoples Public Policy Institute reported that the average retail drug price has been increasing at a worrying pace of 10 percent a year, and about 20 drugs have astoundingly had their prices quadruple since just December. Sixty drugs doubled over the same period. Turing Pharmaceuticals, headed by Martin Shkreli, is one of the most pronounced examples of this kind of behavior. The company bought a lifesaving cancer medication only to increase its price from $13.50 to $750 per pill. https://www.rt.com/usa/334004-drug-prices-doubled-years/

Incomes, of course, have not doubled. In real terms incomes have declined. Moreover, expenditures on medicines are a huge percentage of the budgets of the elderly and those on Medicare. According to the Kaiser Family Foundation, the average annual cost of prescription medicines for the elderly accounts for three-fourths of the average Social Security pension and for about half of the median income of people who receive Medicare benefits. https://www.rt.com/usa/334004-drug-prices-doubled-years/

Real jobs have also declined. The jobs that the financial presstitutes report to be unfilled are not jobs that provide a living. The BLS reported that the number of Americans working multiple jobs rose in July by 453,000, bringing the number of Americans who hold mul...

The 2018 Bucharest Conference on Terrorism and the Middle East "IndyWatch Feed War"

Organized by MEPEI (Middle East Political and Economic Institute), a Bucharest-based think-tank, the Embassy of the Islamic Republic of Iran in Romania, and EURISC Foundation, the 4th edition of the Bucharest annual conference on terrorism and the Middle East brought together 200 academics, researchers, officials, and embassy representatives from 14 countries. This years conference was called The New Geopolitical Environment and the Middle East: Between Fighting Terrorism and the Future of the Region, and it took place at the beginning of July in Bucharests Intercontinental Hotel.

Here are some highlights of the most pertinent policy debates explored at the conference:

Westerners think of security in the Middle East in terms of oil and Israel. However, we are in a post-globalization world, and the concepts of power, state, and state sovereignty have changed. The security of oil must be replaced with the security of the people, declared Mostafa Zahrani, adviser to the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Iran, at the beginning of this years conference.

Zahrani went on to stress that some threats in the Middle East are more serious than terrorism, such as corruption and the inability of leaders to properly run and organize their states. No one can predict what the future of the region holds for several reasons. For one, only Iran and Turkey are experiencing real development, while the existence of certain disrupting groups, such as the Houthis in Yemen, the Kurds in Iraq, Islamic groups, and finally the more radical groups such as al Nusra and Daesh prevent stability from taking hold across the Middle East. In terms of new elements, Zahrani emphasized that Turkey is a strong new actor in the Middle East and it has become obvious that Saudi Arabia is intervening on many fronts. In terms of old elements, he stated that the US and Israel propagate the notion of Iran as an enemy in order to get support from Arab states. They present conflicts in a sectarian manner, where the Shia-Sunni split is the cause of all problems in the Middle East, but this is not true. In addition, Zahrani believes that Trump has no clear Middle East strategy and his short-sighted focus and whimsical foreign policy prevent him from having a clear picture of what is actually going on in the region.

China is viewed as a new player in the region. Future wars in the Middle East will be a great game between superpowers, assuming that China will be the enemy of the US, and the regions energy wealth will loom large in their calculations. Russia does not have the military and budgetary potential of China, but Russia is still able to fill the vacuum in the Middle East and wants to be considered on equal footing even though the US often views Russia as a declining power.

Chrystia Freeland Channels Trumps Twitter Diplomacy- Revisiting Canadas 15 Billion Dollar Saudi Arms Deal "IndyWatch Feed War"

Wonder how many people thought about the fact that Chrystia Freeland employed the Trump playbook method allegedly engaging in diplomacy for twits on twitter?

Isn't it interesting that a twit is a silly or foolish person?

The tweets, from Canadian Foreign Minister Chrystia Freeland and via her ministrys main Twitter account, expressed concern over the latest arrests of social activists in Riyadh. In response, Saudi Arabia suspended diplomatic ties and new trade dealings with Canada, ordered the expulsion of Canadas ambassador to Riyadh, and recalled its own envoy from Ottawa. The Saudi foreign ministrys explanation for these measures is that the Canadian criticism was an affront to the kingdom that requires a sharp response to prevent any party from attempting to meddle with Saudi sovereignty.

Israeli air forces pummel Gaza, killing pregnant Palestinian woman and her 18-month-old daughter "IndyWatch Feed War"

Three Palestinians were killed during pre dawn Israeli airstrikes on the besieged Gaza Strip Thursday. Among the dead were a woman, who was nine months pregnant, and her 18-month-old daughter.

The Palestinian Ministry of Health in Gaza identified the pregnant woman as 23-year-old Inas Khamash, and her 18-month-old daughter as Bayan Khamash.

The two were killed when an Israeli airstrike hit their home in the Jaafari area of central Gaza. Khamashs husband, Muhammad, was severely injured during the strike.

While some local media outlets were reporting that Muhammad succumbed to his wounds early Thursday afternoon, the Gaza Ministry of Health has maintained that he is still in critical condition and being treated in the ICU.

The third slain Palestinian, reportedly a Hamas fighter, was killed in an airstrike in northern Gaza. He was identified as 30-year-old Ali al-Ghandour.

The health ministry added that around 12 Palestinians were injured, two critically, and were  transferred to the hospital for treatment.

Israeli air forces pounded the Gaza Strip overnight, targeting over 100 sites in the besieged coastal enclave. The Israeli army said in a statement that forces struck 150 terror targets.

MLB and NFL fans submit their faces and fingerprints to buy food, beer and tickets "IndyWatch Feed Tech"

If you still value your privacy, I urge you to stay away from major league sporting events.

Yesterday, CLEAR biometrics announced that they have installed biometric fingerprint scanners at Seattles CenturyLink and Safeco Fields concession stands.

But the story does not end there.

The video also revealed that MLS's Sounders FC team is using biometrics to spy on fans.

None of this should come as a surprise to soccer fans. Earlier this week Russia revealed that they used SITA's facial recognition to spy on 1.2 million World Cup fans.

"Moscow Domodedovo Airport  and technology provider SITA today summed up the success of new automated gates which were introduced for passengers in time for the 2018 World Cup. In just over a month around the championship, more than 1.2 million passengers took advantage of the new technology to speed their way through the airport."

Last month, CLEAR announced that they have installed facial recognition scanners in at least twelve Major League Baseball stadiums.

In March of this year, I warned everyone that major league sports teams were using CLEAR's TSA PreCheck to spy on fans. And last year I warned people that the Lincoln Motor Company was installing "complimentary" TSA PreCheck scanners in all their new vehicles so fans can gain entry into stadiums.

But now things are about to get worse, much worse.

Facebook launches AR games for Messenger app "IndyWatch Feed Tech"

Facebook adds augmented reality (AR) games to its Messenger app

Facebook is known for copying Snapchats features for its social media platforms. And, the social media giant has done it yet again!!! Facebook in a blog post yesterday announced a new feature in Messenger app for its users that makes connecting with friends in video chat even more fun and competitive. Facebook has added augmented reality (AR) games in video chats of its Messenger app. This feature allows up to six people to play the AR games at a time via video chat.

For the moments when we cant be together IRL, Messenger video chat helps you connect in real-time with the people you care about most. Today were excited to make connecting with your friends in video chat even more fun and competitive! with multiplayer video chat AR games, Facebook said in the announcement on Wednesday.

Currently, there are two AR games, Dont Smile and Asteroid Attack that are available to play. These games test each players ability to steer a spaceship using their face.

With this feature starting to roll out today, you can challenge your friends around the world to two games: see who can hold a serious face the longest with Dont Smile, or see who can better navigate their spaceship with Asteroids Attack, the social media giant said.

Facebook also plans to roll out more games in the coming weeks and months. One of them is called Beach Bump, where players get to pass a beach ball back and forth, while another one is a matching cat game called Kitten Kraze.

Facebooks new feature is very much like one of Messengers chief competitor, Snapchats Snappables the lens-based games inside the Snapchat camera, that was launched in April this year. Snappables allows the user to use touch, motion, and facial expressions to compete for high scores or in literal head-to-head multiplayer match-ups. Some of the first Snappables previewed by Snapchat include an Asteroids-style space shooter, a weightlifting one you play by straining your forehead, a bubble gum popping contest, an egg-catching competition, a kiss-blowing game, and a dance party.

Handling of U.S. trade dispute causes rift in Chinese leadership: sources "IndyWatch Feed War"

A growing trade war with the United States is causing rifts within Chinas Communist Party, with some critics saying that an overly nationalistic Chinese stance may have hardened the U.S. position, according to four sources close to the government.

President Xi Jinping still has a firm grip on power, but an unusual surge of criticism about economic policy and how the government has handled the trade war has revealed rare cracks in the ruling Communist Party.

A backlash is being felt at the highest levels of the government, possibly hitting a close aide to Xi, his ideology chief and strategist Wang Huning, according to two sources familiar with discussions in leadership circles.

A prominent and influential academic whose views have found favor in some party quarters has also come under attack for his strident views on Chinese power.

Wang, who was the architect of the China Dream, Xis vision for China to become a strong and prosperous nation, has been taken to task by the Chinese leader for crafting an excessively nationalistic image for the country, which has only provoked the United States, the sources said.

NASA astronaut Leland Melvin claims he witnessed an organic, alien-like creature in Space Shuttle payload bay "IndyWatch Feed Nthamerica"

It might sound like the plot to a Hollywood science-fiction blockbuster, but an astronaut claims to have seen an organic, alien-like creature on the Space Shuttle.

Nasa engineer Leland Melvin made the astonishing claims during a discussion with a conspiracy theorist on social media.

The former NFL football player says he spotted the creature in the payload bay of the space shuttle Atlantis, which was in orbit above the Earth at the time.

When he told Nasa about the sighting, space agency experts told Melvin the most likely explanation was ice had broken off away from the shuttle and it was the movement of these floating shards that caught his eye.

Robert Steele: GOP RNC Commit Suicide, Disavow Bill Fawell for Telling the Truth About 9/11 and Sandy Hook "IndyWatch Feed War"

If ever there was a moment in American history when the GOP/RNC could have stood  tall, this is that moment: they are disavowing a very fine candidate for Congress because he is telling the truth about 9/11 and Sandy Hook.

GOP leaders pull support for 17th District candidate

As a former spy who has run a false flag operation, as a top reviewer who has engaged with the top authors on false flag and Deep State operations (including Peter Dale Scott, the original, who has outed Dick Cheneys use of Continuity of Government (COG) to command and control the Shadow Government), I will state with absolute conviction that Bill Fawell, running in the 17th Congressional District in Illinois, is absolutely right and the President knows he is absolutely right. Bill Fawell is telling the truth about 9/11 and Sandy Hook.

Ill give you a hint.  They are not stupid. The Modern Day Nazis Are Taking Over: The Rise of the Social Media Gestapo "IndyWatch Feed Nthamerica"

My fathers side of the family escaped the ravages of Nazi Germany. My German grandmother and my father made certain that I learned the lessons of oppression, discrimination and genocide very well. These principles were ingrained into my upbringing.
At one time, German was the envy of most of the world. They had the best scientists, German education was outstanding and they were leaders in the arts. So how did a highly sophisticated educated and intelligent Germans fall victim to the corrupt Nazis which set the tone for genocide? More to the point of this article, does America need to fear the rise of the same totalitarianism that infested and destroyed Germany? The answer to this question has its roots in the demise of the legitimate church and the compromising of the media and both things are happening in todays environment..

The Fallen Church

German pastors stood at the Nazi rallies with their right arms extended chanting loyal phrases directed at Hitler. For these misguided so-called religious leaders, Hitler had replaced Jesus, and todays people wonder if the anti-Christ could really gain a foothold in todays world.
What should have been the first line of defense was the most important betrayal of the American people. With few exceptions, the religious leaders cheered for Hitler in the midst of mass murder of Jews. Gypsies and homosexuals as well as the handicapped and the mentally ill.
The German pastors, as a group, sacrificed spiritual integrity for political expediency and profit. Most of todays church and their accompanying pastors are no better than the German pastors ho capitulated to Hitler.  I remember a time in this country when the many in the pulpit would speak out against murderous abortions and the incessant attack upon the Christian family values of the modern American family. Those voices have grown silent.
Todays pastors are more concerned with preserving their 5013c tax exempt status which prevents them from taking political and m...

My friend and I have had long debates about her choice to wear the veil. Factcheck: How global warming has increased US wildfires "IndyWatch Feed Enviro"

In the midst of record or near-record heatwaves across the northern hemisphere this summer, deadly wildfires have swept through many regions, such as the western US, Europe and Siberia. This has focused a great deal of public attention on the role that climate change plays in wildfires.

Recently, some commentators have tried to dismiss recent increases in the areas burnt by fires in the US, claiming that fires were much worse in the early part of the century. To do this, they are ignoring clear guidance by scientists that the data should not be used to make comparisons with earlier periods.

The US National Interagency Fire Center (NIFC), which maintains the database in question, tells Carbon Brief that people should not put any stock in numbers prior to 1960 and that comparing the modern fire area to earlier estimates is not accurate or appropriate.

Here, Carbon Brief takes a look at the links between climate change and wildfires, both in the US and across the globe. As with any environmental issue, there are many different contributing factors, but it is clear that in the western US climate change has made and will continue to make fires larger and more destructive.

As one scientist tells Carbon Brief: There is no question whatsoever that climate plays a role in the increase in fires.

The dogwhistles have become foghorns "IndyWatch Feed Nthamerica"

This is revealing. According to Laura Ingraham, demographic shifts are not organic, but have been forced upon the country by the mysteriously powerful Left, which has the ability to compel people to have children and to move to new places.

The words she says are even worse.

In some parts of the country, it does seem like the America that we know and love doesnt exist anymore. Massive demographic changes have been foisted upon the American people, and they are changes that none of us ever voted for, and most of us dont like. From Virginia to California, we see stark examples of how radically, in some ways, the country has changed. Now, much of this is related to both illegal, and in some cases legal immigration that, of course, progressives love.

The America we know and love doesnt exist anymorebecause there are more brown people living here. Most of us meaning Fox News viewers, not intelligent, compassionate people dont like these brown people living here.

I guess demographic change is the new code phrase for non-white people that we dont like.

There was a lot about the America we knew that didnt deserve our love, and Id be glad to see it change, if only there werent people like Laura Ingraham trying to make sure all the changes make it worse.

BIND DNS software includes a security feature that could be abused to cause DoS condition "IndyWatch Feed Tech"

The Internet Systems Consortium (ISC) announced the presence of a serious flaw in the BIND DNS software that can be exploited by remote attackers to cause a denial-of-service (DoS) condition.

The vulnerability tracked as CVE-2018-5740 was discovered by Tony Finch of the University of Cambridge. The flaw has been assigned a CVSS score of 7.5, the expert pointed out that the flaw only affects servers that have on a feature called deny-answer-aliases enabled. The good news is that this specific feature is disabled by default.

The deny-answer-aliases feature is was implemented to help recursive server operators protect users against DNS rebinding attacks. The DNS rebinding arracks allow any website to create a dns name that they are authorized to communicate with, and then make it resolve to localhost. A remote hacker to abuse the targeted users browser to directly connect with hosts on the local network and exploit flaws in these systems.

deny-answer-aliases is a little-used feature intended to help recursive server operators protect end users against DNS rebinding attacks, a potential method of circumventing the security model used by client browsers.  However, a defect in this feature makes it easy, when the feature is in use, to experience an INSIST assertion failure in name.c. states the security advisory published by the ISC.

Accidental or deliberate triggering of this defect will cause an INSIST assertion failure in named, causing the named process to stop execution and resulting in denial of service to clients.  Only servers which have explicitly enabled the deny-answer-aliases feature are at risk and disabling the feature prevents exploitation.

BIND DNS software

The vulnerability affects BIND versions 9.7.0 through 9.8.8, 9.9.0 through 9.9.13, 9.10.0 through 9.10.8, 9.11.0 through 9.11.4, 9.12.0 through 9.12.2, and 9.13.0 through 9.13.2.

Yemen is hemorrhaging. After more than three years of a brutal and genocidal war waged by a U.S/U.K-armed Saudi Coalition against 27 million Yemenis, life in Yemen has been reduced to a diseased, starving, mutilated and preyed upon nation that is still resisting some of the worlds most powerful nations in their attempts to drive Yemenis to their knees.

In May 2018, Sir Roger Carr, chairman of BAE, gave a speech to shareholders at the BAE AGM. There is no doubt that 2017 was a successful year as reflected in our sales, profits and cash flow, which, I am pleased to say, has supported an increase in your dividend for the year to 21.8pence per share.

Shareholders in arms production benefit from bloodshed globally. The deaths of Yemeni children pay healthy dividends. In 2015 the UK exported 2.94 billion in arms to Saudi Arabia over a period of 9 months. The illegal aggression against Yemen began in March 2015. BAE jumped at the opportunity to reap a harvest from the murder of Yemeni civilians. According to Amnesty International:

They (UK) recently diverted a batch of 500-pound Paveway IV bombs to Saudi Arabia. These bombs are used by Tornado and Typhoon fighter jets, both of which are manufactured and supplied to Saudi Arabia by the UK arms company BAE Systems.

In May 2018 Carr said our customers are our lifeblood while those customers shed blood globally. Saudi Arabia is crucial to BAEs success in the arms industry and i...

Nicholas Kollerstrom: In Solidarity with Alex Jones Sandy Hook a transitional occurrence in state-sponsored terror nobody died in an exercise with crisis actors "IndyWatch Feed War"

Nicholas Kollerstrom: In Solidarity with Alex JonesA transitional occurrence in state-sponsored terror nobody died in an exercise with crisis actors

Mr. President,

The Sandy Hook event was a great transitional moment in modern state-fabricated terror. Before it, we had events such as 9/11 and the London bombings of 2005, in which a lot of people died. After it, there are mockup events with actors and fake blood, which are a lot cheaper and easier to arrange. Since 2012 state-terror events have used crisis actors. This is alas the main art-form of the 21st century, whereby the Deep State gets its wars going.

Before Sandy Hook, there would be drills or wargames which were arranged to synchronize with the event: the perpetrators would cause them to go live so that real terror then took place. Thereby the State was able to blame some external Enemy, for what it had done. But things changed in 2012 with mere actors and dummies being used to scare everyone. The Sandy Hook nightmare killer Adam Lanza never existed, he was just a mockup. The state of Newton had received a grant from Homeland Security to run the drill. But, the drama of the event acquired a bit too much realism and spilled over into newspaper headlines.

There were for example no bullet marks in any school classroom, no bodies of little kids taken by ambulance into hospitals none of that happened: there were just a load of crisis actors, and A LOT of state money going into Newtown to keep everyone quiet.

Those families in Newtown were not real. The kids existed, but they were several years older than the pictures we all saw: many of those dead kids were rewarded by appearing at the Super Bowl concert with Beyonc months later. It was pointed out that they were evidently the same but about twelve years of age.

Of the twenty families involved with the children, all were home-owners in Newtown. Many had just moved in before the event and all had their mortgages paid off shortly before. That was a key part of the process whereby they were manipulated to go along with the story.

Mr. President, it is your business to appoint someone who can detail all those fake families who came together in Newton, and examine birth and death certificates, school records, etc. Get a full statement from the FBI, whose records c...

Ive been seeing versions of this claim since at least the Reagan years.

I dont think the proper response is to point out that Michael Moates is kind of homely himself. Isnt the We win the political debate because we can find pretty women in our clique intrinsically wrong and fallacious?

Is Our Government Intentionally Hiding $21 Trillion In Spending?

This column is co-authored with Mark Skidmore, a Professor of Economics at Michigan State University.

In our prior column, Mark and I wrote about $21 trillion in unaccounted government transactions, primarily on defense. The DODs (Department of Defense) as well as HUDs (Department of Housing and Urban Development) Offices of Inspector General (OIG) reference these transactions as unsupported journal voucher adjustments. This is polite accounting language for lost, hidden or stolen money. If such adjustments were small, it would be one thing. But they totaled some $21 trillion between 1998 and 2015!

. . .

Trillions in unaccounted outlays, if thats whats involved here, is trillions of our tax dollars being spent without our knowledge. If thats the case, were talking about the biggest government financial deception in the history of the country.

Phi Beta Iota: Apart from US Government spending being documented as 50% waste on average across all policy domains, with defense and housing being the largest, there has clearly been grand theft and secret spending on scales most cannot imagine.  There is also the off  the books funding associated with the covert captured and theft of gold, and the drug trade that was facilitated by NAFTA. In brief, we are not living in heaven on earth because the US Government went rogue on us, and allowed itself to be turned into a Shadow Government serving the Deep State instead of the public interest.

India: The State of Independence "IndyWatch Feed War"

Colin Todhunter India celebrates its independence from Britain on 15 August. However, the system of British colonial dominance has been replaced by a new hegemony based on the systemic rule of transnational capital, enforced by global institutions like the World Bank and WTO. At the same time, global agribusiness corporations are stepping into the boots of the former East India Company. The long-term goal of US capitalism has been to restructure indigenous agriculture across the world and tie it to an international system of trade underpinned by export-oriented mono-cropping, commodity production for the global market and debt. The result has been food surplus and food deficit areas, of which the latter have become dependent on agricultural imports and strings-attached aid. Whether through IMF-World Bank structural adjustment programmes, as occurred in Africa, trade agreements like NAFTA and its impact on Mexico or, more generally, deregulated global trade rules, the outcome has been similar: the displacement of traditional, indigenous agriculture by a corporatized model centred on transnational agribusiness and the undermining of both regional and world food

How Does Canada Escape Prosecution for Genocide? "IndyWatch Feed War"

Can Canada continue to commit what is an enumerated act of genocide by the UNGC [United Nations Genocide Convention] and excuse itself by continuing to say that it is not intending what the Genocide Treaty recognizes as the result of such an act ?

Tamara Starblanket1

Genocide is a heinous crime that fractures and dehumanizes humanity. Science tells us that we are all taxonomically Homo sapiens. Yet most of us tend to divide into Us and Them groupings, sometimes leading to in-group and out-group competition that can turn violent. In the worst cases, the monstrous result is the decimation of the different group.

The carrying out of a genocide doesnt require annihilatory bombing or the mowing down of a particular targetted group. Neither does genocide require a lightning temporality in execution. Genocide merely requires the intent to bring about the destruction of a targetted group by whatever manner, unbounded by a specific timeframe. Humans steer genocide: a malicious force capable of an evil genius in linguistically guising its execution, as well as being capable of extreme patience in achieving its pernicious aims.

A particular example of an under-the-radar genocide is that carried out by European settler-colonialists who denationalized all the Original Nations of the western hemisphere. There are non-indigenous people who are aware and acknowledge that genocide occurred, but few would realize or acknowledge that the genocide continues. That is much of the importance of Tamara Starblankets Suffer the Little Children: Genocide, Indigenous Nations and the Canadian State (Clarity Press, 2018).

Shut Out of Housing Gains "IndyWatch Feed Nthamerica"

Pete Saunders is a planning consultant and journalist based in Chicago. He blogs at The Corner Side Yard, and we've featured his work a number of times before on Strong Towns. He recently shared an account on his blog that is at once more personal and anecdotal than much of his work, and yet extremely illuminating.

In "A Personal Segregation Story," Saunders uses his own family history to shed a critical light on the notion, pervasive in American society, that homeownership is a path to building generational wealth. He reminds us that for many Americansand disproportionately for Americans of colorit never has been so:

The neighborhood of my childhood home... is still the home of some of the neighbors I remember from nearly 40 years ago.  But in part because of segregation, and an overall moribund regional economy for the last half century.... the neighborhood has remained at a weird level of stasis for a very long time; it looks exactly the same in 2018 as I remember it in 1978.  The sense of stasis is reflected in the minimal appreciation in home value.  My parents bought it in 1968 for $17,500 and sold it in 1981 for $36,000.  Zillow's zestimate for the home today is $72,100.
There was no transfer of generational wealth from my parents to me and my siblings.

In fact, Saunders writes, his parents' home has appreciated at less than the rate of inflation over fifty years. It has been a net money loser, even before the cost of ongoing maintenance of the structure is factored in. And there are millions of homes like it across America.

A common theme in discussions of racial segregation in American housing is the racial homeownership gapthe difference between the rate of white and non-white (especially black) households who own their homes. This gap exists everywhere, and, in the worst cities, is a shocking 50 percentage points. This is a problem because homeownership is the primary vehicle of retirement savings for many, many people, not to mention a source of wealth that can be passed on to their children, used to pay for education and other opportunities.

And yet, the story Saunders is telling is different, and equally troubling. His grandparents were upwardly mobile and were not shut out of homeownership. They owned their homes, on both his mother's and...

Activists Ask for More African-American Representation on Fort Bend Construction Site
By Brooke A. Lewis

A group of local activists and an archaeologist on Wednesday pushed for more African-American historical and scientific oversight at a construction site in Fort Bend where 95 remains of possible convict laborers were discovered earlier this year.

At a press conference at the site, the group also questioned how DNA testing would be funded for possible descendants of the convict laborers interested in coming forward.

"To step out onto the site and see nothing but Caucasian workers, it made me feel worse," said Deric Muhammad, a local community activist. "It compounded the pain. I'm very well aware, that inside one of those graves could be my ancestor. My history has been lost throughout this process."

The group completed a tour of the site on Wednesday, which comes after last month's news that the remains exhumed so far are all African-American and likely part of the convict-leasing system, where prisoners were contracted out to perform cheap labor in Texas.

No need to travel far from EU institutions to find out about migrant labour conditions. At the Arts-Loi Metro station in Brussels, Mohammed, an undocumented Moroccan immigrant, worked for months for 50 euros a day to renovate it, and it was hard labour.

Fort Bend ISD is building the James Reese Technical Center on the construction site, located on University Boulevard and Chatham Avenue, which is expected to be completed by Fall 2019. The discovery of the remains was announced in April by the school district.

Kofi Taharka, chairman of the National Black United Front met with the superintendent last month, but said the school district has not provided a clear answer on how the DNA t...

Papua New Guinea to supply its own rice by 2025 "IndyWatch Feed Pacific"

The Agriculture and Livestock Minister, says Papua New Guinea is planning to replace imported rice with its own by 2025.

Rice is among cereals and meat which dominate PNG's food imports from 2012 to 2016, amounting to K560m and K410m respectively.

Minister Benny Allan says the government is promoting food self-sufficiency and import replacement on food items, to sustain PNG's food security and reduce import bills.

Speaking at the APEC University of Papua New Guinea Discussion Precinct yesterday, Mr Allan, says the country could cut the cost of rice by half if it grows its own supply.

"We have K6 on the shelves you all know.

"But if we grow rice locally we can reduce (the price) by 50%.

"We will start this. Immediately after APEC Food Security Week, we'll go up to 14 Mile PAU road and before Kinakon, we have a land prepared now for the pilot project APEC.

"So we are serious about growing rice locally, and by 2025 we want to meet our local demand, and perhaps export to other countries as well."

But of course places like the Heartland Institute and the fully-owned subsidiary of moneyed interests, the Republican party, have been working for years to starve the educational system so that teachers will be reliant on handouts from corporations.

Truth and the Truth "IndyWatch Feed Politics.us"

William James:

What hardens the heart of everyone I approach with the view of truth sketched in my last lecture is that typical idol of the tribe, the notion of the Truth, conceived as the one answer, determinate and complete, to the one fixed enigma which the world is believed to propound. For popular tradition, it is all the better if the answer be oracular, so as itself to awaken wonder as an enigma of the second order, veiling rather than revealing what its profundities are supposed to contain. All the great single-word answers to the world's riddle, such as God, the One, Reason, Law, Spirit, Matter, Nature, Polarity, the Dialectic Process, the Idea, the Self, the Oversoul, draw the admiration that men have lavished on them from this oracular rule. By amateurs in philosophy and professionals alike, the universe is represented as a queer sort of petrified sphinx whose appeal to man consists in a monotonous challenge to his divining powers. The Truth: what a perfect idol of the rationalistic mind! I read in an old letter - from a gifted friend who died too young - these words: "In everything, in science, art, morals and religion, there must be one system that is right and every other wrong." How characteristic of the enthusiasm of a certain stage of youth! At twenty-one we rise to such a challenge and expect to find the system. It never occurs to most of us even later that the question 'what is the truth?' is no real question (being irrelative to all conditions) and that the whole notion of the truth is an abstraction from the fact of truth in the plural, a mere useful summarizing phrase like the Latin Language or the Law.

Washington steps up action against Kremlin over Skripal poisoning in UK

The slide in Russian assets came after the US government said it would block Russian state imports worth hundreds of millions of dollars

By Henry Foy and Kathrin Hille in Moscow

The Russian stock market fell on Thursday and the rouble hit a two-year low after the Trump administration prepared sweeping new sanctions against Russia in response to the poisoning of a former Russian agent on British soil.

Moscow Exchanges benchmark dollar-denominated RTS index shed 3.5 per cent in early trading on Thursday to its lowest level since April, while the rouble-denominated MOEX index fell as much as 1.5 per cent. The rouble weakened to 66.7 to the dollar, the lowest since August 2016, before easing slightly to trade at 66.2 at 11.15 Moscow time.

The slide in Russian assets came after the US government said late on Wednesday that new sanctions would be applied against Russia from August 22. The measures, which would block Russian state imports worth hundreds of millions of dollars, were a response to the poisoning of the British citizen and former Russian agent Sergei Skripal and his daughter Yulia with a military-grade nerve agent in the UK in April.

The UK has called the attack on the Skripals the first offensive use of chemical weapons in Europe since the end of the second world war and blamed the Russian government. The incident has already severely strained Russias ties with western countries, triggering tit-for-tat expulsions of large numbers of diplomats.

Following Britains argument that the attack was a state-sponsored chemical weapons attack, the Trump administration said the sanctions would be enacted under the Chemical and Biological Weapons Control and Warfare Elimination Act (CBW Act). Washington demands that Russia provide reliable evidence that it is no longer using chemical or biological weapons and allow inspections by the UN-backed chemical weapons watchdog.

The US said that if Moscow failed to comply with those demands, another set of more draconian sanctions would follow.

Among the Russian entities that could then be targeted is Aeroflot, the airline, which US officials said could find itself with a ban on flights to the US if the new sanctions failed to elicit a response from Moscow. Shares in the airline fell as much as 12.3 per cent to touch the lowest price since August 2016, before recovering some of those losses to trade 6.4 per cent lower at 11.15.

African Americans Enduring Opposition to Nuclear Weapons
Interview with Vincent Intondi

Professor Vincent Intondi
Vincent Intondi is an associate professor of history and director of the Institute for Race, Justice, and Community Engagement at Montgomery College in Takoma Park, Maryland. He is also director of research for American Universitys Nuclear Studies Institute in Washington, DC. Intondis research focuses on the intersection of race and nuclear weapons. He is the author of the 2015 book African Americans Against the Bomb: Nuclear Weapons, Colonialism, and the Black Freedom Movement (Stanford University Press).

How did you become interested in the civil rights dimension of anti-nuclear activism, and what inspired you to write your book?

Vincent Intondi:  For most of my life as an academic and an activist, my work revolved around civil rights and the black freedom movement. Nuclear weapons werent on my radar; they seemed like an abstract issue.

But in 2005, I made my first trip to Hiroshima and Nagasaki. I met with atomic bomb survivors. I went to museums and ceremonies. And I was filled with such anger and guilt over what my country had done that when I returned, I realized I needed to find a way to combine these two passions of mine, eliminating racism and eliminating nuclear weapons. I asked my advisor how I could do this, and he suggested trying to answer the question: How did African Americans feel about dropping the atomic bombs on Hiroshima and Nagasaki?

Many colleagues warned me that I wasnt going to find much of a response because African Americans wereunderstandablytoo busy at the time trying to gain their own freedom and equality. But they were wrong; there was a large response. Thats what led to the book.

What did your research turn up?

Vincent Intondi:  Obviously black communities are not monolithic, so not everyone was thinking the same thing. But what I found is that, in many cases, African Americans were looking at the issue of nuclear weapons differently from most white people, through a lens of race and colonialism. After the bombs were first dropped in August 1945, a majority of the American public rejoiced. A Gallup poll conducted the week...

Deceiving Plastic Surgery Clinics Target African-American Women
Plastic surgeons warn women about truth behind cosmetic surgeons

By Amy Viteri - Investigative Reporter
6:13 PM, August 07, 2018

MIAMI - Women are still being lured to South Florida clinics for bargain plastic surgeries and a growing number are dying or suffering devastating injuries.

Dr. Daniel Careaga said when he first started his practice African-American women who were getting plastic surgery in South Florida made up for about 1 to 2 percent. Now, he said, they are about 10 percent of the patients.

Careaga believes this is because many clinics in South Florida are marketing specifically to African-American women in other states. He said it's the fastest growing segment of the population that is seeking out aesthetic surgical procedures.

A growing database compiled by Dr. Pat Pazmio highlights African-American patients who have died from complications or who have suffered life-changing injuries at South Florida clinics. Many of those woman traveled to South Florida for plastic surgery.

Betty Boop: France Legalizes Pedophila Any Child, Any Age "IndyWatch Feed War"

France Passes Law Saying Children Can Consent To Sex With Adults

President Macrons government has voted against having an age of consent in France, becoming the latest nation to give in to pressure from an international network of liberal activists determined to normalize pedophilia and decriminalize sex with children across the world.

Federal law in France now has no legal age of consent, meaning adults who have sex with children of any age will not be prosecuted for rape if the child victim is unable to prove violence, threat, duress, or surprise.

Phi Beta Iota: President Macron, who has no children of his own, is suspected by many in France to be a Satanist and a murderous pedophile. We have no direct knowledge.

By Lizzie Stokes, Staff Writer

Tiffany Joyce Wider was hosting her annual all-girl summer camp in Columbia, South Carolina when one of the campers dubbed her Super Beauty, because she had the power to make others feel good about themselves.

As an artist based in South Carolina, that nickname sparked an idea in Widers head. Wider, who markets herself as TiffanyJ, imagined a young black super-girl named Super Beauty, who could crusade against bullies and inspire self-confidence in others. Super Beauty could be a champion for TiffanyJs campers, a group of predominantly African-American girls who often struggle with body-image issues.

Eventually, that character would star in Super Beauty Saves the Day, a childrens book released in March written and designed by TiffanyJ about a young black superhero who defeats bullies with acceptance and love. Super Beauty is now coming to life in doll form with the September release of the Super Beauty Doll. The doll can pre-ordered online for $24.99 at iamsuperbeauty.com.

A doe-eyed plush toy modeled after the books character, the doll is loaded with 21 encouraging phrases meant to boost self-esteem in young girls. Super Beauty is made in TiffanyJs likeness, with black skin, brown eyes and a natural hair puff simular to the one once rocked by the artist. The doll has a spunky superhero outfit with a pink bow to match.

Sometimes, our little girls get confused because they automatically think black skin is less valuable, TiffanyJ said. A lot of time when little girls have natural hair, they feel like they have to have straight hair, or the pretty pig tail...

The raid on the New Mexico extremists is a heartbreaking crash course that speaks to the depths of the child abuse in this cult-like ideology and its rigid hate for America.

This week, Clarion Projects Ryan Mauros in-depth investigation on the missing three-year-old, Abdul-Ghani Wahhaj, skimmed across major news networks, quickly becoming a national story and adding the twisted new layer of child abuse to reports of Islamist extremism in the United States.

Siraj Ibn Wahhaj son of radical imam Siraj Wahhaj, one of Americas most prominent Islamic clerics and Linda Sarsours mentor  kidnapped his own child in order to exorcise him of his physical disabilities that his father attributed to demonic possession.

A search for the boy led authorities to a remote compound in New Mexico, where local police found Siraj Ibn Wahhaj heavily armed. Court documents filed stated the compound served as a ...

Migrant rescue ship docks in Spain again after Italy refusal "IndyWatch Feed Africa"

An NGO ship which saved 87 migrants in distress off Libya docked in Spain on Thursday after roaming the Mediterranean for days, the third such vessel to be allowed in the country in two months after Italy refused to take them in.

The white ship belonging to Spanish NGO Proactiva Open Arms arrived in the southern port of San Roque, just over the bay from Gibraltar, at 9:20am (0720 GMT).

The migrants, nearly all from Sudan including Darfur, had spent 50 hours at sea on board an inflatable boat, without drinking water, and many suffered burns from a mixture of fuel and salt water before they were rescued on August 2.

There were 75 men and 12 boys.

The NGO says many of them were repeatedly abused in Libya.

San Roque is where Spain hastily opened a new migrant reception centre as hundreds of migrants make the perilous sea crossing to the southern coast of Andalusia every week.

Faced with a crackdown by Libyan authorities and Italys hardline approach to the arrival of migrants, Spain has now become the main destination for those trying to get to Europe from Africa.

More than 23,700 people have arrived in Spain by sea so far this year with 307 dying in the attempt, according to the International Organization for Migration more than during all of last year.

The countrys new Socialist government has also allowed the docking of three NGO rescue ships since June after Italy and Malta refused access.

In June, the French NGO Aquarius ship, which had picked up 630 stranded migrants off Libya, was allowed to dock in Spains eastern port of Valencia.

Then on July 4, Proactiva Open Arms ship docked in Barcelona with 60 migrants.

This time round though, the Spanish government has said the 87 migrants who have arrived in San Roque will be treated in the same way as the hundreds who arrive every week on Spanish shores.

When the Aquarius docked, Madrid had given each migrant a 45-day residency permit for humanitarian reasons.

Those brought back to Barcelona had also been given special treatment.

Construction on Charlestons African-American Museum to Start Next Year After $11M Pledge
By Robert Behre and Dave Munday

Aug 7, 2018

Charlestons planned International African American Museum, which has been in the works for more than 18 years, is closing in on its $75 million fundraising goal.

The Charleston Naval Complex Redevelopment Authority voted Tuesday to approve $11 million for the museum, essentially completing the states $25 million pledge toward the project and ensuring that construction will begin early next year.

Former Charleston Mayor Joe Riley, who has spearheaded efforts to build the museum, called the RDAs pledge really wonderful news and a great partnership.

The RDAs board unanimously agreed to the donation, which will be paid in two equal installments during the next two fiscal years.

Museum CEO Michael Boulware Moore said the $11 million gets us across a major fundraising obstacle.

Retired Rear Adm. William Schachte, chair of the RDAs board, said the authority was formed in 1994 after the Charleston Naval Base was targeted for closure, and its mission extends beyond the former base and shipyard to include revitalizing the tri-county area.

The IAAM will tell an important part of our nations history, he said. Part of our mission at the Charleston RDA is to help revitalize the tri-county area. The IAAM will certainly impact our region and communities well beyond South Carolina, in a positive way.

Entrusting the care of your loved one to people you dont know can be stressful. But, when you find the right nursing home or assisted-care facility, it can make all the difference.

The RDAs move comes more than a month after state lawmakers declined to insert $5 million into the states 2018-19 budget for the museum, money that Riley had hoped to secure.

Despite that setback, he remained upbeat. Riley said Tuesday that state lawmakers encouraged him to reach out to the RDA, a state agency. Schachte said the pledge has been in the works for several weeks but the memorandum of understanding wasnt placed...

Why do the DUP persist in ignoring the interests of their own supporters? "IndyWatch Feed Politics.eu"

For decades, Barry White was a great part of the voice of the Belfast Telegraph, sometimes in his own name, as often in anonymous editorials. He was one of a trio ofsenior journalists, Roy Lilley, Ed Curran and himself who steered a difficult editorial path for the paper from 1970 arguing for the centre ground mainly from the standpoint of liberal unionism.   The voice was  that of reasonableness, by definition so often ahead of the real thing, although Barry wrote a generally laudatory biography of John Hume: statesman of the Troubles in the 1980s. Before long, they were liberal unionism.  Its flaw as I recall  was that it seldom tackled root causes, being rather stuck in the politics of 1969 like ONeillism just before its formative editor Jack Sayers died, echoing Ulster at the Cross Roads, Why Dont we Catch Ourselves On?  and Lets Be Sensible.  In spite of its analytical shortcomings, there was a commercial risk for the paper in this policy among its generally unionist readership. But it was greatly to their credit they stuck to their (metaphorical) guns. The Thomson Organisation owners tried out more populist lines elsewhere but seemed content to leave the editorial line to the established tradition.

Helpfully described as a political commentator, Barry White has returned to the Telegraph with the most salutary warning to unionism today that Ive yet read. Typically enough, the thoughts are not original but they are expressed with an authority of long experience  and conviction that should be heeded. Barrys familiar pessimism is evident in his belief that as so often, they probably wont be.

To fill the vacuum, and enable nationalists unrepresented at Westminster to exploit Brexit worries, Sinn Fein will continue to push for a border poll, despite the Governments reluctance to increase division in these febrile times.

Even talking about a united Ireland, when there is no certainty about long-term relations between Northern Ireland, Britain and the Republic, stirs old animosities.

Dublin clearly wants no part of it, having no desire to shoulder the economic and political burden, but may be unable to withstand northern pressure.

All these swirling tides help to underline the anxiety expressed by Peter Robinson over unionisms lack of a strategy to deal with nationalisms new sense of confidence.

Is it already too late to stop the rot in Stormont? Or is there still time to steer a different course, involving a greater degree of compromise than ever before?

Concentrating on essentials and discarding outdat...
