Should we add bugs to software to put off attackers? "IndyWatch Feed Tech"

A group of New York University researchers are testing a new approach to software security: adding more bugs to it instead of removing them. The idea is to drown attackers in a sea of enticing-looking but ultimately non-exploitable bugs and waste skilled attackers time. This approach is aimed at disrupting the triage and exploit development stages of the attackers workflow by introducing many chaff bugs (the name is a nod to the strips of foil More

Madagascar proposes paying illegal loggers to audit or buy their rosewood "IndyWatch Feed Enviro"

Nobody knows just how much rosewood Madagascars timber barons have hidden away in caches throughout the country. Buried in the sand, sunken in rivers, or tucked away in remote, walled compounds, these illicit stockpiles are thought to be worth tens or even hundreds of millions of dollars in all, the product of a wave of illegal logging that laid waste to the countrys national parks during a political crisis surrounding a 2009 coup dtat. But after years of Sisyphean attempts to figure out the extent of the haul, Madagascars government is now proposing paying loggers for access to their illicit stockpiles in order to keep tabs on the wood, or even buying the wood back from them directly. By doing so, the government hopes to clear the way for the wood to be exported legally so the country can at last achieve stock zero, that is, eliminate all stockpiles of cut rosewood to make it easier to keep tabs on any new logging. It is clear the wood is illegal, said Nanie Ratsifandrihamanana, who runs the Madagascar program for the international conservation NGO World Wide Fund for Nature (WWF). As such, she says shes worried that compensating operators who submit to government monitoring or a buyback program would send a wrong message of rewarding people who broke the law. The Madagascar government made its latest proposal informally in a two-day workshop in the capital, Antananarivo, in June. The World Bank facilitated the workshop, which included representatives from other intergovernmental organizations,

Trudeau's 'Gun Control" Ideology Doesn't Apply to Ukraine: Sniper Rifles Ready to Go "IndyWatch Feed War"

Labours Crisis is Over Israel, Not Anti-semitism "IndyWatch Feed War"

If there is indeed an anti-semitism problem in the UKs Labour party, it is not in the places where the British corporate media have been directing our attention. What can be said with even more certainty is that there is rampant hatred expressed towards Jews in the same British media that is currently decrying the supposed anti-semitism of Labour leader Jeremy Corbyn.

Here is a piece of what I hope is wisdom, earned the hard way as a reporter in Israel over nearly two decades. I offer it in case it helps to resolve the confusion felt by some still pondering the endless reports of Labours supposed anti-semitism crisis.

Racism towards Palestinians

In the first year after my arrival in Israel in late 2001, during the most violent phase of Israels suppression of the Palestinians second intifada, I desperately tried to make sense of the events raging around me. Like most new reporters, I searched for experts at that time, mostly left wing Israeli analysts and academics. But the more I listened, the less I understood. I felt like a ball in a pinball machine, bounced from one hair-trigger to the next.

My problem was exacerbated by the fact that, unlike my colleagues, I had chosen to locate myself in Nazareth, the largest Palestinian city in Israel, rather than in a Jewish area or in the occupied territories. The conflict between Israelis and Palestinians seemed much more complex when viewed through the prism of Palestinian citizens living inside a self-declared Jewish state.

The Israeli experts I contacted deplored the brutality of the occupation unequivocally and in ways it was difficult not to admire, given the morass of anti-Palestinian sentiment and self-righteousness into which the rest of Israeli society was rapidly sinking. But each time I latched on to such an Israeli in the hope of deepening my own understanding, something they said would knock me sideways.

As readily as they condemned the occupation, they would laud the self-evidently bogus liberal democratic credentials of a Jewish state, one that I could see from my location in Nazareth was structurally organised to deny equal rights to its Palestinian citizens. Or the experts would echo the Israeli governments inciteful claims that this largely quiescent Palestinian minority in Israel a fifth of the population was at best a demographic threat to the Jewish majority, and at worst a Trojan horse secretly working to destroy the Jewish state from within.

The very racism towards Palestinians in the occupied territories these experts eschewed, they readily flaunted when discussing Palestinians inside Israel. Were they really leftists or covert ethnic chauvinists?

Appearances can be dec...

New laser based on unusual physics phenomenon could improve telecommunications, computing "IndyWatch Feed Tech"

Researchers at the University of California San Diego have demonstrated the worlds first laser based on an unconventional wave physics phenomenon called bound states in the continuum. The technology could revolutionize the development of surface lasers, making them more compact and energy-efficient for communications and computing applications. The new BIC lasers could also be developed as high-power lasers for industrial and defense applications.

Lasers are ubiquitous in the present day world, from simple everyday laser pointers to complex laser interferometers used to detect gravitational waves. Our current research will impact many areas of laser applications, said Ashok Kodigala, an electrical engineering Ph.D. student at UC San Diego and first author of the study.

Because they are unconventional, BIC lasers offer unique and unprecedented properties that havent yet been realized with existing laser technologies, said Boubacar Kant, electrical engineering professor at the UC San Diego Jacobs School of Engineering who led the research.

GitHub started warning users when adopting compromised credentials "IndyWatch Feed Tech"

In order to improve the security of its users, the popular software code hosting service GitHub is now alerting account holders whenever it detects that a password has been exposed by data breaches on other services.

Last week the popular software code hosting service GitHub has introduced a new feature to protect its users, it will alert them whenever it detects that a password has been compromised in a third-party data breach.

GitHub has teamed with the HaveIBeenPwned.com service, managed by the cybersecurity expert Troy Hunt, to provide implement a feature that allows users to check whether their credentials have been involved in known data breaches.

Common password advice is to use a long and unique password for each website you have an account with. Its challenging to remember a strong and unique password for each website without either using a password manager or using a trivially discovered theme. As a result, password reuse is extremely prevalent. Regardless of the strength of a password, a single breach can nullify its security when used elsewhere. reads the advisory published by GitHub.

GitHub has developed service that leverages the 517 million record dataset provided by Huntto validate whether a users password has been found in any publicly available sets of breach data.

The Non-University and the Manager "IndyWatch Feed War"

We have been seeing over the last few decades the birth of the non-university, an institution hollowed out of its seminal functions: teaching and scholarship.  Such an institution emphasises the functions of commerce and branding not dissimilar to the Vereenigde Oostindische Compagnie (Dutch East India Company), dedicated to goods and services and the establishment of trading hubs.  In 2007, the Vice Chancellor of Griffith University would note how 11 Australian universities including my own have 5 or more campuses.

Pedagogical instruction has become a matter of popularity contests, fuelled by giddy grade inflations on the part of academics who are, lets face it, often not doing the actual grading.  That part of the process is reserved for toiling sessional or casual workers who scrape, labour and hope, often in vain, that they will find a spot of middle-class security.  Their life is one of temporary contracts and elusive tenure, a true academic underclass seduced by the elusion of patronage.

The issue of research has also been hijacked by the circuitous nature of research grants.  The non-university specialises in workshops run by robotic consultants and endless sessions peppered by power points, preparing the unwise academic for an uncertain future where time is spent in a ceaseless drive for irrelevance.  When a grant is received, it is specifically tailor made for insipid trendiness, the latest pop sensation that creates pop-up industries and employment for minions.  Universities will, naturally, take a cut.  Importantly, getting one grant will mean getting another.  A family of sort crops up, and you are guaranteed a line of funding that does not necessarily need proof of use or evidence of worth.  Grants, in other words, displace scholarship.

Heading, controlling and asphyxiating the non-university is the layer of not infrequently venal officialdom known as managers.  Their impending influence across society was already given a good reading by James Burnham, whose The Managerial Revolution (1941) remains all too relevant.  Central to his thesis was the claim that capitalist society would ultimately transform into a managerial one, one where the masses would be told in no uncertain terms that the classless society was an illusion, with state institutions essentially becoming the property of management.

Central to the incidence of university management is the divorce between owning the means of production and the control of their distribution.  Adolf A. Berle and Gardiner C. Means supplied the relevant observations in ...

Let's Encrypt is Now Officially Trusted by All Major Root Programs "IndyWatch Feed Tech"

Submitted via IRC for SoyCow1984

Let's Encrypt announced yesterday that they are now directly trusted by all major root certificate programs including those from Microsoft, Google, Apple, Mozilla, Oracle, and Blackberry. With this announcement, Let's Encrypt is now directly trusted by all major browsers and operating systems.

Source: https://www.bleepingcomputer.com/news/security/lets-encrypt-is-now-officially-trusted-by-all-major-root-certificates/

https://www.securityweek.com/lets-encrypt-now-trusted-all-major-root-programs:

[...] At the end of July 2018, Let's Encrypt received direct trust from Microsoft products, which resulted in it being trusted by all major root programs. The CA's certificates are cross-signed by IdenTrust, and have been widely trusted since the beginning.

"Browsers and operating systems have not, by default, directly trusted Let's Encrypt certificates, but they trust IdenTrust, and IdenTrust trusts us, so we are trusted indirectly. IdenTrust is a critical partner in our effort to secure the Web, as they have allowed us to provide widely trusted certificates from day one," noted Josh Aas, Executive Director of ISRG.

[...] While some of these [older operating systems, browsers, and devices] are expected to be updated to trust the CA, others won't, and it might take at least five more years until most of them cycle out of the Web ecosystem. Until that happens, Let's Encrypt will continue to use a cross signature [from IdenTrust].

15-year-old boy from Bengaluru being treated for PUBG addiction "IndyWatch Feed Tech"

With WHO classifying gaming disorder as a mental health condition, has video gaming addiction become a bigger problem than before?

Gaming is more popular today than ever before and it is especially popular among teens and youngsters who are hooked to it most of the time. In fact, the World Health Organization (WHO) now recognizes gaming disorder as a mental health condition in the International Classification of Diseases and has placed it in the same category as substance abuse and gambling addiction.

However, this has not stopped teens and youngsters from spending more and more time playing video games. It has even proven to be problematic, such as in this case, where a 15-year-old from Bengaluru, India is receiving treatment for his addiction to online game PlayerUnknowns Battlegrounds (PUBG).

For those unaware, the popular game PlayerUnknowns Battlegrounds or PUBG created in December last year has been downloaded over 50 million times. It was the third most popular game in June, even seven months after its introduction. It is available on PC, Android and iOS. PUBG is based on the epic 2000 movie Battle Royale. It starts with 100 players parachuting from a plane onto a large island, where they then search for weapons and gear up for a brutal fight to the death as surviving players edge closer to the center of the island. The players can choose different Mods to fight the enemy and turn out victorious. The game is extra hard and the winner of PUBG is the last man standing.

Apparently, the 15-year-old boy studying Class 10 was so immersed in playing PUBG, that he would stay up until 2-3 am playing the game, and often missed school because of waking up late, reports Hindustan Times. His worried parents then took him to SHUT (Service for Healthy Use of Technology) Clinic, located at the National Institute of Mental Health and Neurosciences (NIMHANS), which helps people deal with technology-based addictions.

During his counseling session, the boy showed all symptoms of gaming disorder, such as putting gaming over other activities and continuing with it despite the negative consequences it could bring. While he had over 1,000 online friends, he had only about four or five friends outside of his digital world. However, the worst part was that the boy was unwilling to recognize that he had a problem.

Recent times have seen more and more youngsters getting addicted to video games with those who overplay video games usually have to confront a high chance of getting either mental or physical diseases or even both if not addressed in time. Also, game addicts are often found seen isolating themselves from others in order to play video games or missing out on famil...

[$] Scheduler utilization clamping "IndyWatch Feed Tech"

Once upon a time, the only way to control how the kernel's CPU scheduler treated any given process was to adjust that process's priority. Priorities are no longer enough to fully control CPU scheduling, though, especially when power-management concerns are taken into account. Is Kenya Falling into the China Debt Trap? "IndyWatch Feed War"

Kenya is an important component of Chinas overall Africa strategy. The country is home to major Chinese-funded and built infrastructure projects and has thus become a showcase for Beijings development and investment initiatives on the continent. It is also home to the port of Mombasa on the Indian Ocean, a key link in the Belt and Road Initiatives Maritime Silk Road between Asia and Europe via the Suez Canal.

A large chunk of Chinese financing has gone into Kenyas 485 km standard gauge railway linking the capital of Nairobi with the port city of Mombasa. Now known as the SGR or Madaraka Express, the rail line is the result of a US$ 3.2 billion contract signed with the state-owned China Roads and Bridges Corporation in 2014. Over 85% of financing for the project came from China, and as of 2018 both passenger and freight service have commenced. The passenger line cuts travel time from its previous twelve hours to five. It moved some 1.3 million passengers in its first year and raked in nearly US$ 10 million in passenger sales. Freight service has not been so successful out of the gates. Importers have been reluctant to use the line, and it was used to transport just 1,600 of the roughly 80,000 containers that went through Mombasa in the first month it was operational. The lack of customers has prompted several tariff cuts by the authorities, who are trying to encourage shippers to switch from road-based options. As it stands there are fears that the railway will never transport the kind of volumes that would allow it to pay off the loans required to build it.

Lectionary: 410

Reading 1 JER 31:31-34

The days are coming, says the LORD,
when I will make a new covenant with the house of Israel
and the house of Judah.
It will not be like the covenant I made with their fathers:
the day I took them by the hand
to lead them forth from the land of Egypt;
for they broke my covenant,
and I had to show myself their master, says the LORD.
But this is the covenant that I will make
with the house of Israel after those days, says the LORD.
I will place my law within them, and write it upon their hearts;
I will be their God, and they shall be my people.
No longer will they have need to teach their friends and relatives
how to know the LORD.
All, from least to greatest, shall know me, says the LORD,
for I will forgive their evildoing and remember their sin no more.

Nicaragua: Dynamics of an Interrupted Revolution "IndyWatch Feed Nthamerica"

The unfolding events in Nicaragua over the past three months pose two critical questions for socialists and antiwar activists. Where do we stand on the critical issue of U.S. imperialist intervention and where do we stand with regard to the dynamics of the still-unfolding confrontations? That U.S. imperialism is intervening in Nicaragua today against the capitalist FSLN (Sandinista National Liberation Front) government of Daniel Ortega cannot be denied. President Trump has openly threatened to send U.S. troops. In this anti-imperialist context, however, each component of any successful U.S.-based united front, democratic, mass-action movement must be free to express its own views on the internal dynamics operating in each nation where any form of U.S. intervention is underway. While we considered Daniel Ortega and the FSLNs central leaders revolutionists of action, that is, honest revolutionaries who desired important changes in Nicaraguan society, we recognized that they were fundamentally adverse to breaking with Nicaraguas capitalist class...

IMF Keeps Mozambique Under Its Purview
August 3, 2018
IMF News Release

End-of-Mission press releases include statements of IMF staff teams that convey preliminary findings after a visit to a country. The views expressed in this statement are those of the IMF staff and do not necessarily represent the views of the IMFs Executive Board. This mission will not result in a Board discussion.

An International Monetary Fund (IMF) staff team led by Ricardo Velloso visited Maputo during July 25August 3, 2018, to take stock of recent macroeconomic developments, update the macroeconomic framework for 2018-19, and provide input to the preparation of the 2019 draft budget.

At the end of the mission, Mr. Velloso issued the following statement:

The Mozambican economy is recovering gradually. Real GDP growth reached 3 percent in 2017 percentage point higher than projected by Fund staff in the last Article IV consultationsupported by a stronger-than-expected recovery in agriculture and significantly higher mining production. Inflation declined rapidly, from a peak of 26 percent (year-on-year) in November 2016 to about 6 percent (year-on-year) in June, reflecting tight monetary policy, exchange rate stability, and decelerating food price increases. Strong export performance and subdued import growth have helped narrow the external current account deficit, supporting a large accumulation of international reserves, which at end-June covered about 6 months of next years projected non-megaproject imports.

On the fiscal front, the government took important measures that helped contain the fiscal deficit: subsidies on fuel and wheat were eliminated, an automatic fuel price adjustment mechanism was adopted, and electricity and public transportation prices were increased. Responding to rapid disinflation, the Bank of Mozambique has been easing monetary policy, cutting its policy rate by a total of 600 basis points since April 2017.

The near-term outlook is of gradual and broad-based recovery in economic activity and subdued inflation. Real GDP growth is projected in the range of 3 percent to 4 percent in 2018, picking up to the range of 4 percent to 4 percent in 2019. This recovery is expected to be supported by further decl...

Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez: Soccer moms and mini-vans NOT AMERICA anymore "IndyWatch Feed War"

Democratic socialist Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez said Tuesday that an upper-middle class with soccer moms with two vans and stuff no longer exists in America, The Daily Caller reported.

Ms. Ocasio-Cortez discussed Democratic strategies and her idea of socialism in America during an interview for Pod Save America.

Their heyday was in the 90s when kids had like Furbies and you had like soccer moms with two vans and stuff, Ms. Ocasio-Cortez said. Thats not America anymore!

The New York Democrat, who unseated long-time incumbent, Rep. Joe Crowley, suggested the older members of her party are out of touch. She said they dont understand how rising income inequality has shaped the political landscape.

During the conversation, the rising Democratic star said her party is not investing in younger candidates.

She said that established Democrats are feverishly working on their own re-elections, but neglecting to support rising younger campaigns is why Republicans are winning. Ms. Ocasio-Cortez explained that these older representatives relied on a demographic that no longer exists.

A lot of these folk were in their political heyday in third-way 90s politics, she said, I think that like politically this upper-middle class is probably more moderate, but that upper-middle class does not exist anymore in America.

When asked what the difference was between capitalists who want a regulated free market and her brand of socialism,...

Smoke Signals A conversation in the aftermath of G20 in Hamburg "IndyWatch Feed Europe"

received 2018/08/06

First appeared as Ein Gesprch mit einigen Militanten ber die informelle Koordinierung im Vorfeld der G20 in Rauchzeichen, a magazine published by Autonomous Groups, Fall 2017 and now first published in English on https://anarhija.info/library/the-local-kids-issue-1-summer-2018-en . This is late, but not too late. We can use this conversation to prepare something for the coming black bloc attack next year in Biarritz/France, where the G7 summit will be end of Summer 2019.

AG: At the end of the summer of 2016, several communiques propose an informal coordination of radical groups in the run-up to the G20 summit in Hamburg. You took part in it. What interventions were you aiming for and which perspectives did it entail for you?

[Chuzpe]: On the occasion of several big events like the G8 in Heiligendamm in 2007 or around the Destroika prior to the inauguration of the European Central Bank in Frankfurt in 2015, there have been similar proposals and radical campaigns. It is not a very new idea. Starting from an anarchist analysis, I see the necessity of a permanent conflictuality and Im sceptical towards this staging of a political play where everyone has its role. Focusing on such an event leads often to the side-lining of everyday struggles. But at the same time, I see the possibility of a tension opening up in such moments, in which the scope of our interventions can amplify. Towards this end, I think that a focus on the practice of radical actions rooted in local struggles while referring to each other, can be a good way to resolve this contradiction and to work towards sustained action. Meanwhile, the practice of direct actions inside the mobilisation gives the possibility of showing this means of struggle, which can motivate and inspire other people.

[Peter Pan]: I think that a lot of the actions that happened during the year are part of specific struggles. Each specific struggle is valid on its own and is important, but the articulation of shared points gets lost. To create a certain ambience, but more so, to find shared points in the different strategies and analyses, points of reference are important. Which are created rather well with this kind of coordination. Individuals, groups, but also movements, that dont k...

NASA Reveals the Impressive Winning Designs of its 3D Printed Mars Habitat Contest "IndyWatch Feed Tech"

Submitted via IRC for takyon

Although a recent NASA-supported study found Mars cannot be made inhabitable with our current technology, this hasn't stopped the space agency from continuing its plans to one day colonize the red planet. One such initiative launched in 2015 is the 3D-Printed Habitat Challenge. The $2.5 million competition, now in its third phase, seeks to find the most adequate housing for future Martian residents. The challenge also hopes to uncover advanced construction technologies that may be used in sustainable housing solutions for Earth as well.

Now, NASA and its competition partner Bradley University of Peoria, Illinois, have selected the five winning teams out of 18 submissions from around the world. The winners will share the $100,000 prize and will have to create 3D-printed one-third-scale versions of their designs to confirm their models' feasibility.

[...] "We are thrilled to see the success of this diverse group of teams that have approached this competition in their own unique styles," said in a statement Monsi Roman, program manager for NASA's Centennial Challenges. "They are not just designing structures, they are designing habitats that will allow our space explorers to live and work on other planets. We are excited to see their designs come to life as the competition moves forward."

Chip Lights Up Optical Neural Network Demo "IndyWatch Feed Tech"

Researchers at the National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST) have made a silicon chip that distributes optical signals precisely across a miniature brain-like grid, showcasing a potential new design for neural networks.

The human brain has billions of neurons (nerve cells), each with thousands of connections to other neurons. Many computing research projects aim to emulate the brain by creating circuits of artificial neural networks. But conventional electronics, including the electrical wiring of semiconductor circuits, often impedes the extremely complex routing required for useful neural networks.

The NIST team proposes to use light instead of electricity as a signaling medium. Neural networks already have demonstrated remarkable power in solving complex problems, including rapid pattern recognition and data analysis. The use of light would eliminate interference due to electrical charge, and the signals would travel faster and farther.

Memories Of A Mis-Spent Youth: Learnabout Simple Electronics "IndyWatch Feed Tech"

Heaven, for tech-inclined late-1970s British kids.Heaven, for tech-inclined late-1970s British kids.

Early last spring, we featured a book review, as part of our occasional Books You Should Read series. Usually these are seminal tomes, those really useful books that stay with you for life and become well-thumbed, but in this case it was a childrens book. Making a Transistor Radio, by [George Dobbs, G3RJV], was a part of the long-running series of Ladybird books that educated, entertained, and enthralled mid-20th-century British kids, and its subject was the construction of a 3-transistor regenerative AM receiver. If you talk to a British electronic engineer of A Certain Age there is a good chance that this was the volume that first introduced them to their art, and they may even still have their prized radio somewhere.

Making a Transistor Radio was a success story, but whats not so well-known is that there was a companion volume published a few years later in 1979....

America to Netanyahu and Trump: No More War for Israel "IndyWatch Feed Nthamerica"

The latest polls show that over half of the American public does not war with Iran, despite the literal and systematic brainwashing for that very thing on the part of the Zionist American Establishment.

Making a Rondel Dagger Part 15 Troat of the Scabbard "IndyWatch Feed Nthamerica"

I have decided to make the fittings for the scabbard from the same shovel that provided steel for the rondel. It is good carbon steel of appropriate thickness and I reasoned that after I grind it to remove all pitting from the outer side, it shall be thin just right. However, because I wanted to bend the steel at least in part whilst it is cold, I had to first anneal the shovel in case you do not know, shovels are hardened and tempered. So I have decided to burn some more rotten wood, bbq dinner and anneal the shovel at the same time. Luckily the droughts in the place where I live are less severe than in the rest of CZ, so we do not have ban on fires (yet). Nevertheless, despite how it might appear, I am actually careful with fire I always watch the direction in which the wind is blowing, I have water prepared and I douse all coals when I am done. And I have portable fireplace that I position in the middle of a gravel field.

I proceeded to make a paper template by wrapping it around the scabbard and adding about one cm for length. That I transferred onto the shovel and I cut the rough shape with angle grinder.

My improvised bending setup did not work as intended. The main problem being, that this steel proved to be extremely tough and hard, even annealed. I tried and tried, but it just did not work. After a few attempts I gave up and had to think up another way. I have decided that I have to do what I did not want to forge it hot.

I could not go outside and make fire, because firstly it was way too hot outside for that and secondly because my improvised anvil for this delicate task was an old annealed file held in a vice. As a source of heat therefore I had to do with handheld propane torch and a few fireclay bricks as an impromptu forge. Unfortunately I forgot to make more detailed pictures of this process so you have to be content with red-hot glowing steel on fireclay brick laid on a granite paving stone laid on wooden bench. I see you cringe with my minds eye and I agree. For subsequent works I moved the whole assembly onto the circular saw table (also seen in the picture) which is made from metal and therefore fireproof. Needles to say, bucket of water was...

David William Pear How can I write a review of Andre Vltcheks new book Revolutionary Optimism, Western Nihilism? I am damned if I do, and damned if I dont. Andre himself says that: There is nothing to add to the writing of maverick revolutionary philosophers. Hands off their work! Let them speak! Editions without prefaces and introductions, please; no footnotes! The greatest works of philosophy were written with heart, blood and passion! No interpretation is needed. If allowed to read them, even a child can understand. He is speaking about the works of other great revolutionary writers, not himself. I think Andre is a great revolutionary writer, too. But, who am I to speak for Andre or greatness? Read his great works for yourself, and you will understand them without my introduction. You will find that Andre has the guts to put himself out there, let it all hang out, and expose his vulnerabilities as well as his wisdom But I am damned if I dont write a book review for Andres book, because I

Sharice Davids Wins Democratic Nomination in Kansas 3rd Congressional District "IndyWatch Feed 1stpeople"

Published August 8, 2018

KANSAS CITY  After a long overnight wait to learn the results of the primary votes in Kansas 3rd Congressional District, Ho-Chunk Sharice Davids has won the Democratic partys nomination to face GOP Congressman Kevin Yoder in the general election in November.

In the primary, Davids was among six candidates vying for the nomination. The unofficial vote was 22,891 votes (37.3 percent ) for Davids over her closest opponent David Welder, who garnered 20,803 votes (33.9 percent).

What is impressive is Davids beat Welder, whose campaign was aided by a visit by Senator Bernie Sanders into the district.

The congressional district is viewed as competitive in November as evidenced by a visit by Vice President Pence who was in the district to raise funds for Yoder during the primary.

Davids posted this tweet to Twitter this morning:

The has called it Im humbled to be your Democratic nominee in . Thank you to my 5 fellow Dem candidates, who were each a part of energizing our district throughout the primary. I look forward to working w/ them & all of you to change the face of KS politics.

BBCs sanitisation of deliberate Gaza border violence continues "IndyWatch Feed War"

On August 7th the BBC News website published an article titled Israeli tank fire kills two Hamas militants in Gaza on its Middle East page. The report relates to an incident which took place earlier in the day when IDF soldiers on patrol in the northern sector of the Border between Israel and the Gaza Strip identified gunfire from the Beit Lahiya area. Hamas later claimed that the snipers were taking part in a drill held by the terror group near the border fence.

The BBCs report on the incident opened as follows:

Insurance Institute Spots Problems in Driver Assistance Systems "IndyWatch Feed Tech"

Even the best systems on the market sometimes require the driver to jump in to correct errors

Electronic safety systems in todays vehicles dont always measure up to claims made for them, says a report published Tuesday by the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS), a non-profit supported by auto insurers

"We zeroed in on situations our staff have identified as areas of concern during test drives with Level 2 systems, then used that feedback to develop road and track scenarios to compare vehicles," IIHS senior engineer Jessica Jermakian said, according to the report.

Level 2 autonomy employs advanced driver assistance systems (ADAS), which as the phrase implies are meant to help the driver, not replace them. A Level 2 car has the two functions of lane keeping and adaptive cruise control, a feature that maintains a safe distance from the car in front.

The Insurance Institute isnt yet at the point of ranking Level 2 systems for safety, although it does say that all of the five cars its just tested have excellent emergency braking systems. That function is the sole criterion for Level 1 autonomy.

The tested cars were the 2017 BMW 5-series with Driving Assistant Plus; the 2017 Mercedes-Benz E-Class with Drive Pilot; the 2016 Model S and the 2018 Tesla Model 3 with Autopilot (using different software versions); and the 2018 Volvo S90 with Pilot Assist.

When starting at a speed of 50 kilometers per hour (31 mph) and with the adaptive cruise control turned off, the two Teslas were not able to brake in time to completely avoid hitting an obstacle. The other cars were able to stop well short of the obstacle. With the adaptive cruise control turned on, all the cars stopped in time.

When set to follow a lead vehicle that first slowed and then stopped, all five cars were able to keep their distance and to stop in time. When the lead vehicle moved out of the way to reveal a stopped vehicle in the lane, all five cars were able to avoid hitting it.

So far, so good. But these tests were conducted on the track; in traffic things werent always so smooth. Engineers found that all of the cars except the Tesla 3 would sometimes be baffled by a stopped car. And even the Tesla 3 had a problem: excessively cautious braking.

Go away, Jenny McCarthy "IndyWatch Feed Nthamerica"

McCarthy is still around, and she has just issued a call to action the anti-vaxxers are supposed to rush out and promote a book by JB Handley.

Yeah, JB Handley. Anti-vax, autism-obsessed crank. I think both of them can crawl back into the hole they crawled out of.

This JB Handley:

How did your life change when you discovered your son had autism?

Everything changed from the day it happened. It was an immediate nightmare. It was 30 days of six, seven, eight hours of nonstop crying by both me and my wife. It was the painful realization that my son may not have the kind of life that I expected for him. And once the grief had passed just enough to get up off the floor, it was a mandate to do whatever I could do with the rest of my life to give him the best possible life.

Theres a kind of annoying selfishness there. Guess what? Your children generally will not have the life you plan for them. Learn to appreciate them for who they are.

They just cried non-stop for a month? Over-react much? Its like hearing that someone melted down when they discovered their child had a birthmark. Calm down. There are degrees of autism, and none of them are a death sentence.

Even more bizarre, he then declares that his son is now recovering dramatically, getting all his words back, going to a normal school. Maybe the diagnosis didnt warrant a month of bawling? Autistic children are children they grow and change. Freaking out over autism is just silly.

So this is the guy who has a new book. I dont care, and am not interested. This is the guy who has Jenny McCarthy excited I am unimpressed with the endorsement.

Go to Trumpcoin2020.com and use the code Coin to save $5 per coin, or text Coin to 511511. Good morning. Im still reporting on the coup. I would have loved to make this report about the latest insiders view of the coup from the undisputed world authority on that subject, House Intel Chairman Devin Nunes. However, it is not. Nunes got constantly sidetracked Fox Host Sean Hannitys incessant interruptions. [insert] Sean, quit interrupting. You interrupted him 12 seconds into what he was starting to say. Dont you have anyone around you who will tell you the truth? Thats what friends are for. [insert] Sean, there you go again. We could have been way on down the road by now, but you interrupted him just 55 seconds later. This is obvious to everyone else but you: you are messing up his train of thought. Trust me, Im not the only one who sees this. [insert] He didnt answer either of your questions and got totally derailed on detail we didnt need to hear totally because you derailed him. [insert] Sean, only 42 seconds since the last interruption. Give Nunes a chance. He is the most articulate spokesperson on our team on the House Intel Committee. Give him a chance to get something out. [insert] Sean - Only 17 seconds since your last interruption. Hes trying to get his main point out, but you wont let him because you are trying to show off how much you know about this. All of us see this. We all know it and we are wondering why cant someone you respect tell you to just shut up. [insert] Nunes, being the polite guy that he is, gives up on wherever he was trying to go and now attempts to answer your latest question. [insert] Secondly what? Well never know. You say you are running out of time, then you burn up nearly all of that time framing your next question. [insert] Oh pleeeeze! [insert] Nunes cant give you the soundbite you are painfully reaching for that Shiftless Schiff colluded with the Russians too. Nunes cant say that! Hes got to work with him. Finally Nunes tries to make one very valid take away point from this interview, but he only makes it by totally ignoring your last question, which, incidentally took up 38 seconds of a 245 seconds available for real information transfer in this segment. [insert] In the end, Im still not sure why Bruce Ohr is now becoming more important, and I think thats the main thing that Nunes was trying to get across. Ohr was the former associate deputy Attorney General and former Director of the Organized Crime Drug Enforcement Task Force and husband of Nellie Ohr, who was working for Fusion GPS, who was ultimately being paid by the DNC and Clinton campaign. Apparently Nunes wanted to say that Bruce Ohr was a key player in the fa......

Justifying Murder The U.S Freefall into Fear and Loathing at Home and Abroad "IndyWatch Feed Nthamerica"

Christopher C. Black
NEO

As I write this news came of the attempt on President Maduros life, additional sanctions against Iran, North Korea, Syria and Russia, a ramping up of the economic warfare against China through the use of trade tariffs, threats of war against all of those nations and dangerous alarms from within the USA that the upcoming midterm elections for Congress are being threatened by Russia.

The western media have spun the failed attempt on Maduro as a staged event so he can clampdown on democracy and so act as co-conspirators in the plot. If the attempt had succeeded they would have been jubilant that it worked but they are so corrupt we could not put it past them to claim that his murder would be justified. But what strikes me about all these circumstances is the connection between the domestic situation in the USA and its external aggression.

The defeat of the US and its NATO and Middle Eastern allies in Syria dealt them a major strategic blow. They had hoped to be able to take over the land and air space of Syria and ISIS controlled Iraq to build up forces so they could attack Iran. Now that is only possible by air attack and they know as we all know that despite the destruction they can wreak air bombardment alone does not win wars. So the US reneged on the Iran nuclear deal in order to have its pretext to impose crippling economic warfare on Iran, which has had the effect of devaluing its currency and making life difficult. Already some unrest has been provoked because of this and the actions of western agents in Iran. The Americans hope to cause enough unrest to bring down the Iranian government and impose their own puppets or direct western colonial rule but they do not understand either the will to resist nor the Persian culture and people. Nor did they expect to be frustrated by Irans friends who refuse to obey US diktats to reduce Iranian oil sales to zero. India, China, Russia, Turkey and some EU countries that need it will continue to by Iranian oil.

The Syria defeat, along with their defeat in Iraq and their inability to fully control A...

On an island in the sun, coal power is king over abundant solar "IndyWatch Feed Enviro"

JAKARTA Dolphins havent had it easy in Bali, a resort island in Indonesia thats massively popular with tourists. Theyre often held captive in chlorinated pools for traveling circuses; a report alleges that dolphins at one such outfit had their teeth filed down or removed altogether to prevent bite injuries to swimmers. But the biggest challenge they face is one that threatens their habitat and that could potentially drive them away from the islands waters. That challenge comes in the form of a massive coal-fired power plant in the sleepy fishing village of Celukan Bawang, on Balis north coast. The plant lies west of the popular Lovina Beach, a prime spot for dolphin-watching boat tours. But the tour operators could soon be out of business, if the grim scenario painted by a Greenpeace report plays out. Since the plant began operating in 2015, the environmental watchdog says, it has dumped coal waste residue on the land and in the sea, wreaking havoc on the local ecosystem. The steady traffic of coal barges supplying the plant have also damaged coral reefs and driven away fish. The impact has been far-reaching, the report says, with local fishermen forced to sail further out to sea because of declining catches in their traditional fishing areas closer to shore. Africas biggest cobra is five species, not one, study finds "IndyWatch Feed Enviro"

The highly venomous forest cobra, the largest of Africas true cobras, is not one, but five separate species, according to a new study. At first glance, forest cobras, which can grow to lengths of nearly 3 meters (10 feet) and are frequently kept in zoos, research institutes and private collections, may not look very different. But Wolfgang Wster, a herpetologist at Bangor University, U.K., and colleagues chanced upon the snakes potential diversity around 15 years ago by accident. The team had been working on another species, and had collected some DNA samples of forest cobras from captive collections for comparison. To our surprise we found that the mitochondrial DNA sequence differences between [the forest cobra samples] were far greater than between clearly distinct species of other cobras, even though the forest cobras did not appear very distinct visually, Wster told Mongabay. Some populations of the brown forest cobra (Naja subfulva), like this snake from western Kenya, are black and white, complicating their identification. Image by Wolfgang Wster. Other researchers were also investigating the possibility of the forest cobra being more than a single species. Luis Miguel Pires Ceraco, a herpetologist at Villanova University in Pennsylvania, U.S., for instance, found genetic evidence suggesting that the forest cobras on So Tom Island in the Gulf of Guinea, off Central Africa, were a new species called Naja peroescobari. To tease apart the snakes diversity, Wster and his team collected tissue samples, including scale clippings, blood, shed skin and liver tissue, from 71 individual

Where They Burn Books, They Will Soon Burn People "IndyWatch Feed Nthamerica"

Fact: President Trump is sitting in the White House, today, largely because of the Independent Media.

Fact: President Trump just thumbed his nose to one of his biggest supporters, Alex Jones, when he refused to use the power of the President to reign in the illegal behaviors of the social media monopolies.

Fact: One-time staunch supporter of Trump, Gary Heavin, retired owner of curves, philanthropist and movie producer, stated on The Common Sense Show, that he no longer supports Trump and that he is clearly compromised. In the interview, I was shocked but I could not deny his supporting evidence. I desperately wanted Gary to be wrong! Sadly, everything he said was true.

Is It Time to Forsake Trump?

Am I jumping off of the Trump train? No, I am not, I am being pushed of off the train by his unexplainable inaction in moving to protect the only media that has been friendly to the President.

There is no denying the many great economic accomplishments of the Trump administration. However, and for the time being, he has clearly deserted his base. This is my line in the sand for Donald Trump. If Trump does not move to undo the illegal censorship of the social media giants, it is time for the Independent Media to re-evaluate where we will place our efforts.

The  social media giants are low hanging fruit. They are in such blatant violation of Federal law, that prosecuting them is easy. Again, under the open forum laws that all social media giants claim membership status in, they are not allowed to discriminate and censor. Ted Cruz exposed the open forum umbrella that all the social media giants are operating under. Further, there is no question that the social media giants are monopolies. In fact, they are poster-children for this concept. However, monopolies cannot selectively censor without being in violation of anti-trust laws. Again, where is Trump?

Why Hawaii Got Electricity Before Most of the Rest of the World "IndyWatch Feed Tech"

In 1881, Thomas Edison convinced King Kalakaua that electric streetlamps were superior to gas

photo of chandelier Photo: The Friends of Iolani Palace

In 1881, King David Kalakaua of Hawaii went on a world tour, the first of its kind for a sitting monarch. He circumnavigated the globe, stopping in Asia, India, Egypt, Europe, and the United States. Among other things, he sought to encourage immigration from the Asia-Pacific region, as Hawaiis dwindling population had created a labor shortage on its sugar plantations. But the king also wanted to introduce the culture of Hawaii to the world, and he was curious about modern science and technology.

When he arrived in Paris in August 1881, the International Exposition of Electricity was just getting under way. The exposition showcased the latest advancements in electrical technology, such as dynamos, batteries, and lighting. The first International Electrical Congress also convened during the exposition, with participants presenting papers, discussing research, and deciding on definitions for the ampere, the volt, the ohm, and other electrical units.

King Kalakaua visited the exposition and was eager to learn more. George Jones [PDF], cofounder of The New York Times, met the king in Vienna and promised an introduction to Thomas Edison. That meeting took place on 25 September 1881 in Edisons New York City office. According to The Sun (New York), the king and the inventor discussed not only the technicalities of electric lights but also the business of selling power.

As described in The Sun, Hawaiis attorney general, William N. Armstrong, told Edison that the kingdom had a volcano that burns a thousand million tons of coal a day. He jokingly added: You could put your boilers on top of the volcano and get power enough to supply the country. Apparently, Edison didnt get the joke and asked if that was where Hawaii mined its coal. Armstrong replied that in fact Hawaii imported its coal from Australia, but the volcano was their great hope. Some people have since speculated that Armstrongs remark indicated an early interest in geothermal power, but it was more likely a failed attempt at humor.

In any event, Kalakaua explained to Edison that he was keen to upgrade the kerosene lamps that li...

From the Annals of Overkill: The Electric Mailbox "IndyWatch Feed Tech"

In 1885, Ephraim E. Weaver jumped a little too hard onto the electrification bandwagon

img Photo: National Postal Museum/Smithsonian Institution

During the 1870s and 80s, inventors filed more than a dozen patent applications in the United States for electrical improvements to letter boxes. But why did mailboxes and letter slots, surely among the simplest mechanical devices, have to be electrified? It was primarily a matter of convenience, for people who wanted to know exactly when the mail had arrived and didnt want to waste time checking.

Free home delivery of the mail had begun in the United States in 1863, but mailboxes were not yet standard. Instead, a postman would knock on the door (perhaps with a handheld wooden knocker), wait for someone to answer, and then hand over the mail. If no one was home, the carrier returned later or the next day. Although this created great trust in the system, it wasnt very efficient. In 1909, postal officials calculated that on a typical day, carriers made 360 stops and spent an average of 15 seconds per delivery, or an hour and a half a day, simply waiting.

Photo: National Postal Museum/Smithsonian Institution Photo: National Postal Museum/Smithsonian Institution Photos: National Postal Museum/Smithsonian Institution A Smarter Mailbox: Ephraim E. Weavers electric mailbox [front and interior shown here] came with a key that the delivery person could use to ring a bell, signaling that a package had arrived.

Beginning in the 1880s, the U.S. Post Office Department began encouraging people to install a mailbox or letter slot, although they didnt become a requirement until 1923. (For a nice concise history of the U.S. Postal Service, see The United States Postal Service: An American History 17752006 [PDF].)

And so, many of the early patents for electrical indicators for letter boxes tried to replace or augment the postmans knock. Inventor Henry R. David thought that large office and apartment buildings in cities had a particular problem. His 1875 U.S. patent [PDF] detailed a system of circuits that would inform people in far-flung corners of the building that mail was waiting for them at the main entrance.

Many of the electric...

WASHINGTON (AP) The US is bracing for cyberattacks Iran could launch in retaliation for the re-imposition of sanctions this week by US President Donald Trump, cybersecurity and intelligence experts say.

Concern over that cyber threat has been rising since May, when Trump pulled out of the 2015 nuclear deal, under which the US and other world powers eased economic sanctions in exchange for curbs on Irans nuclear program. The experts say the threat would intensify following Washingtons move Tuesday to re-impose economic restrictions on Tehran.

While we have no specific threats, we have seen an increase in chatter related to Iranian threat activity over the past several weeks, said Priscilla Moriuchi, director of strategic threat development at Recorded Future, a global real-time cyber threat intelligence company. The Massachusetts-based company predicted back in May that the US withdrawal from the nuclear agreement would provoke a cyber response from the Iranian government within two to four months.

US intelligence agencies have singled out Iran as one of the main foreign cyber threats facing America, along with Russia, China and North Korea. A wave of attacks that US authorities blamed on Iran between 2012 a...

Rough Night for Socialist Ocasio-Cortez Middle America Endorsements Crash and Burn "IndyWatch Feed Politics.us"

Brooklyn socialist Alexandria Ocasio-Brown traveled to Middle America last month to campaign for several far left Democrats.

Ocasio endorsed several far-left candidates who are as ignorant on economic policy as she is.

Kaniela Ing, Hawaii
Kerri Harris, Delaware
Brent Welder and James Thompson, Kansas
Abdul El-Sayed and Rashida Tlaib, Michigan
Cori Bush, Missouri
Zephyr Teachout, New York
Ayanna Pressley, Massachusetts (more below)
Linsey Fagan, Texas

But it didnt quite work out the way she wanted.

Unfortunately, for Democrats Middle America is not jumping on board their Socialist crazy train.

Ocasio got swept Tuesday in Democrat primaries.

American Mirror reported:

Alexandria Ocasio-Cortezs record on Tuesday night for her chosen primary candidates was as bare as a Venezuelan supermarket shelf.

The socialist pulled off a stunning victory last month in New York, and is now attempting to parlay that win into helping other leftists win Democratic primaries.

Cortez held a whirl-wind tour of the U.S., stumping for Abdul El-Sayed for governor of Michigan, Fayrouz Saad in Michigans 11th Congressional District, Cori Bush in Missouris 1st District, and is backing Congressional candidate Kaniela Ing in Hawaii.

El-Sayed lost his bid for the Democrat nomination for governor to 51.8 percent to 30.5 percent, according to numbers published by the New York Times.

Saad came in fourth in the five-way race, capturing only 18 percent of the vote.

Cori Bush lost her primary to William Lacy Clay, 56.7 percent to 36.9 percent, the Times results show.

New US Sanctions on Iran and their Impact "IndyWatch Feed War"

(PressTV referring to the New Sanctions regime imposed by the US, as of 7 August 2018.)

PressTV:  How do you see this?

Peter Koenig: First off, this is just another flagrant violation of international law, even of US law, after having ratified the Nuclear Deal. Any interference in another countrys economic affairs, including in a countrys trade sovereignty, is an international crime. Thats precisely what Trump, under the leadership of those who command him, is doing. For example, Netanyahu, is largely calling the shots in Washington.

The idea is weakening Iran to the point that a war would be easier. Although, I really do not believe that the US is daring to go to war with Iran. They know too well whats at stake with Russia and China firmly behind Iran.

They may send Israel as a forerunner to attack Iran and wait for Irans reaction. But even that, I believe will be a losing proposition. The empire knows its on a descending course. This is fearmongering and warmongering, which will allow the war industrial complex to increase its profits as a last-ditch effort.

But Iran, in fact, has nothing to fear if she plays her cards according to what she knows is best: Applying the principles of resistance economy, meaning foremost de-linking from the dollar economy and becoming quickly food self-sufficient, with increased trading with the East; i.e., the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) countries.

PressTV: What are Iranian options to counter this?

PK: Well, as indicated before, Iran should gradually but ever so fast detach from the dollar economy. As a matter of fact, one of the sanctions prohibits Iran from dealing in dollars. All the better. Iran has other resources, or it must now look for other resources, like the Yuan and the Ruble and other SCO currencies and definitely do whatever is needed to hasten the pace towards full integration into the eastern economy. And, realize her plan of creating her own crypto-currency, similar to Venezuelas Petro, based on and backed by Irans immense reserves of hydrocarbon.

Lets not forget, and I have said this many time before the future is in the East.

Always remember what President Putin has come to tell The Ayatollah last November, namely, that sanctions were the best thing that ever happened to Russia since the collapse of the Soviet Union. It forced Russia to rebuild its economy towards self-sufficiency, especially agriculture where in the 90s everything was imported from the EU. Now Russia is fully food self-sufficient. Actually Russia has become the worlds largest exporter of wheat by far, for the last two years, and this year also promises to be a record year.

Pakistan Will Add 60,000 Troops to Patrol Afghan Border "IndyWatch Feed War"

Pakistan will add 60,000 troops to boost its patrols along its disputed border with Afghanistan in an effort to curb the flow of insurgents passing between the two nations, according to military officials familiar with the matter.

Forty percent of the troops have already been recruited in the exercise, which is expected to take two years, the officials said, asking not to be identified so they could discuss sensitive troop movements. About 13 percent of a fence planned along the 1,456 mile-long disputed border has also been completed, they said. The armed forces media department didnt respond to a request for comment.

The move will consolidate Pakistans border operations, which have been beefed-up in recent years after widespread insecurity wracked the country following the U.S. invasion of Afghanistan. Domestic terror-related violence is now at its lowest in more than a decade. The army has an estimated 560,000 active personnel, according to the London-based International Institute of Strategic Studies. Forces have previously been more focused on the countrys eastern border with arch-rival neighbor India, with which its fought three wars against since British Indias partition in 1947. WHY I'M NOT ANGRY AT THE GREENS "IndyWatch Feed Politics.us"

Despite what you may have heard, Republican Troy Balderson's lead over Democrat Danny O'Connor in the OH-12 special House election is now greater than the number of votes won by Green Party candidate Joe Manchik:

Balderson's lead is 1754 votes. Manchik won 1127. So far, it's not true that the Greens cost the Democrats this one.

Once provisional ballots are counted, that could change. But even if the margin narrows to a smaller number than Manchik's total vote, I still won't be as angry as I was in November 2016 or November 2000.

Winning this one would have been great (and it's still theoretically possible). But this wasn't a critical victory. It's nothing like a presidential election. All by itself, it was never going to flip party control of the House. And even though they may have won, it's still a gut punch to Republicans.

Do you know what percentage of the vote the Democrat got in this district in the 2016 House race? It was 29.8%. Granted, the Republican was an incumbent, Patrick Tiberi. But still -- 29.8%. This is nearly a 20-point gain for Democrats in the district. If Democrats overperform that way (or even half as much) across the country in November, they've got the House.

And there'll be a rematch between these two guys in the same district in November (no, I don't know why Ohio bothered with a special election three months before a scheduled general election). By November, if Balderson is declared the winner in this election, he may represent a party that's shut down the government. Democrats could win this seat then.

In 2016, the Green candidate (it was Manchik then, too) got 3.6% of the vote; this year, he got only 0.6%. I wish the decline had been even greater -- but I feel better about the Democrats' chances in November than I did a week ago, and this election is why.

CLICK HERE: BillStill.com/StemCell Good morning, Im still reporting on: Viktor Orbn 5 Tenets For Sovereign Nations, 2332 Synopsis: Viktor Orbn, Prime Minister of Hungary since 2010, is to Europe what President Trump is to America. Orbn is doing what true leaders do - designing an enduring framework to preserve Hungarys indigenous and unique culture for centuries to come. Orban defines New Europe as those nations in Central and Eastern Europe who were formerly under the grip of the Soviet Union in 1989-1990. Hungary declared its independence on Oct. 23, 1989. These nations have been trying to rebuild their economies after 50 years of destruction under state socialism. Consequently, New Europe has been more open to new ideas - of necessity - whereas, the core members of the European Union, Germany, France, Italy, Spain, etc., are considered to be Old Europe, and are still whether they acknowledge it or not governing under a socialist delusion. Led by Frau Merkel of Germany this delusion is still encouraging the migration that will ultimately destroy them. This is the 3rd year we have covered Prime Minister Orbans annual address to the Summer Open University which is held in a rural setting in the Hungarian-speaking portion of western Romania at the end of July. The festival is a place where politicians can speak openly because there are no western news cameras there. Fortunately, we had a pro-monetary reform reporter on the scene who spent many hours obtaining the video and translating Orbans speech into English. This is the only channel where you will find this speech accurately sub-titled by a native Hungarian into English. This gives an unvarnished look at the clear-headed direction that New Europe is taking that most Americans are not aware of. This year, Orbn declared 5 tenets for the sovereign nations of Central Europe, that the rest of Europe should adopt as well, or face the ultimate destruction of their sovereign indigenous cultures. You see, censorship is good if the person being censored is someone you dont like. Thats right. You didnt know that, did you? Thats the secret meaning of the 1st Amendment.

Here is how foul the political air is now, how low the logic has sunk. If you dont agree that Facebook censoring a particular person is a good thing, then you must be supporting that censored person. You must be on his side. There is no middle ground. There is no Bill of Rights. There is only like and hate, and hate implies there is a target to be censored

Whole generations are being raised to think of censorship as a pleasant solution to speech they dont like, people they dont like, ideas they dont like.

Ive received an email outlining reasons not to like Alex Jones. It stopped short of saying he should be censored. Instead, it accused me of supporting him. Which of course ISNT THE ISSUE. The issue is, should Jones be banned.

Several generations know NOTHING about the 1st Amendment or corporate monopoly of the news. All they know is: shut bad people up.

You could run the following Noam Chomsky quote by such people and see what reaction you get: If youre really in favor of free speech, then youre in favor of freedom of speech for precisely for views you despise. Otherwise, youre not in favor of free speech.

The reaction youd get? Some form of non-comprehension. In the case of the massive social-media banning of Alex Jones that occurred yesterday, these know-nothings would say: Good. Im glad hes censored.

But if social media giants can ban Jones, they can move right along to another target. They can decide that anyone who speaks out against vaccination is a danger to the community and must be silenced. They can decide anyone who defends Russia for any reaso...

Appointment sparks accusations of state interference in RBIs independence

By Kiran Stacey in New Delhi

A controversial rightwing commentator who is close to Narendra Modi, the Indian prime minister, has been appointed as a director at Indias central bank, prompting criticism that the government is interfering with the banks independence.

Officials announced on Tuesday night that S Gurumurthy, who has been credited by some as the intellectual force behind Mr Modis demonetisation experiment two years ago, would join the bank on a part-time basis for the next four years.

The move sparked accusations that the ruling Hindu nationalist Bharatiya Janata party is trying to sway decision making at the bank, which sets interest rates, regulates banks and oversees the countrys bankruptcy code.

Paranjoy Guha Thakurta, a journalist and political commentator, said: [Gurumurthy] is clearly a Hindu nationalist ideologue, and that is the reason he has been appointed.

Mr Gurumurthy did not respond to a request to comment on his appointment. But after he was named he wrote on twitter: This is [my] first directorship ever. Never accepted any private or PSU [state-owned company] directorship. Not even audit of PSUs or Pvt cos. Wanted to be free to speak. But when pressure built up I am needed to do something in public interest I had to accept.

The Reserve Bank of India declined to comment on whether Mr Gurumurthys appointment would undermine the banks independence.

In his new role, Mr Gurumurthy will have oversight over how the bank is run, and a vote at its board meetings, but will not be part of the monetary policy committee which decides interest rates.

AP Blasts US Support To Pro al-Qaida Coalition In Yemen "IndyWatch Feed Africa"

ATAQ, Yemen (AP) Again and again over the past two years, a military coalition led by Saudi Arabia and backed by the United States has claimed it won decisive victories that drove al-Qaida militants from their strongholds across Yemen and shattered their ability to attack the West.

Heres what the victors did not disclose: many of their conquests came without firing a shot.

Thats because the coalition cut secret deals with al-Qaida fighters, paying some to leave key cities and towns and letting others retreat with weapons, equipment and wads of looted cash, an investigation by The Associated Press has found. Hundreds more were recruited to join the coalition itself.

These compromises and alliances have allowed al-Qaida militants to survive to fight another day and risk strengthening the most dangerous branch...
