The GOP is getting desperate in the face of their constituents, who will not stop protesting, showing up, and demanding answers. The reek of cowardly ordure emanating from repubs is overwhelming at this point, and they are saying the first thing that pops into their vacuous heads in an attempt to make everyone shut up and go away, including the resurrection of the infamous lie about death panels. Yep. There are two stories here, well start with Utah, and Rep. Jason Chaffetz.
Rep. Jason Chaffetz (R-UT) says paid protesters were among the thousand-plus people who gave him a raucous, negative reception at a town hall in Salt Lake City on Thursday. The crowd chanted shame! and do your job.
It was more of a paid attempt to bully and intimidate than a reflection of the feelings of his constituents, Chaffetz told the Deseret News. But reporters who were at the event and interviewed attendees say they found no evidence anybody was paid to be there.
No, they wouldnt, because the paid protesters nonsense is nothing more than a lie, and attempt to justify stupid and harmful actions along with evading questions about said actions.
Utah state Rep. Marie Poulson (D-Cottonwood Heights) represents the area around the high school where the town hall was held. She told the Deseret News she believes almost all the protesters were local....
By Steven Singer in Gadfly On The Wall. Unions are facing hard times. We are under attack by the new fascist wing of the Republican party. So-called right to work laws are being drafted at the national level to strip us of our rights and transform us into the factory slaves of The Gilded Age. New court challenges at the state and federal level could make it next to impossible to collect dues without allowing countless free riders. And in the mass media criticism of teacher tenure is mounting despite widespread ignorance of what it even means. More than ever we need to be united in our efforts to fight the forces of regression and tyranny. We need each other to protect our public schools and our students from those who would do them harm. But the biggest obstacle to doing that isnt Donald Trump. Nor is it Mike Pence, Steve Bannon or even Betsy DeVos. It is you. Both of you.

By Alex Christoforou for The Duran. The Obama Administration, with the help of the CIA and main stream media, cleverly diluted the fact they they violently overthrew the democratically elected government in Ukraine, and encouraged the illegal, putsch government to attack its own citizens in the east of the country. Oliver Stone was never fooled by Obamas Ukraine game, which resulted in the former POTUS getting outplayed in Crimea by Russian President Vladimir Putin. Oliver Stone is now urging US President Donald Trump to make public any secret documents he has in his possession on the origins of Obamas conflict in Ukraine.

We live in a world where we often pass the buck when it comes to responsibility, especially when that responsibility comes at the cost of changing our behaviour. However it is very possible for us to change part of the external world we live in by simply changing our inner world. This is how we create our own personal revolution.
The analogy I like to use for this is that we are all light bulbs, we all have the ability to shine bright, the problem is we are often surrounded by other bulbs that are not shining. When we switch on our light, not only do we realise we have the ability to shine bright, but those around us also realise that they have the ability to shine full beam. We all have this in us it is just a question of activating our light.
There are many ways we can be that shining light in a world full of dormant bulbs here are 6 ways-
You can always share things with people, the paradox here is it can often be hard to share your feelings with those you love, however we always have that inner ability to do so. Tell someone they are beautiful without conditions. Smile at someone when you pass them in the street. Love everyone without expecting them to do so in return, because when you do- all that is love gravitates to you and this allows others to do the same.
By Mark Hand for DC Media Group. Hundreds of people showed up at the White House on Feb. 11 to denounce the Trump administrations series of raids in recent days that targeted undocumented immigrants across the country, including in Atlanta, Chicago, Los Angeles, and New York. Among the hundreds of people arrested in the raids were many with no criminal records. As part of President Donald Trumps shock-and-awe policy strategy during his first three weeks in office, the raids by the U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) are creating uncertainty and fear in immigrant communities. Through traffic checkpoints and raids on peoples homes and workplaces, ICE agents, in collaboration with local police forces in some cases, have detained hundreds of people, including 200 immigrants in Georgia, 160 in Los Angeles and 44 in Austin, Texas.
A recently surfaced photo purports to show the questions given to presidential candidates during town halls were pre-selected by CNN.
The next wave of the food, supplement and nutrition market is upon us with little fanfare. Perhaps because the age of information we are in has once again caught the public and market by surprise with its rapid pace.
The idea of health supplements is nothing new, however the market has become lazy. Consumers settled for the status quo and companies were happy to take a back seat to meet that demand. However, all are in for a rude awakening. Garden of life and Subway just received their warning shot, and in doing so a revolution was quietly started. No longer will the informed public trust hype, social media marketing pushes, celebrity endorsement, or promises of meaningless words like natural. What is needed are truer, more honest products that place integrity and transparency above all other aspects.
We are witnessing the beginning of an open source food, nutrition and supplement movement. Open source being defined as having universal access to a products design or blueprint. This runs opposite of the dominant trend of centralized, elusive practices that are constantly seen. For example, when Whole Foods was pressed to go GMO free, they released a statement saying that such a goal...

This post is a summary of six major research reports released by the Citizen Lab in 2016 which received substantial national and international media coverage.
Citizen Lab researchers published in August a report titled Million Dollar Dissident: NSO Groups iPhone Zero-Days used against a UAE Human Rights Defender. This report investigated malware exploits sent to internationally recognized, UAE-based human rights defender Ahmed Mansoor. Mansoor received SMS text messages on his iPhone promising new secrets about detainees tortured in UAE jails if he clicked on an included link. Instead of clicking, Mansoor sent the messages to Citizen Lab researchers, who recognized the links as belonging to an exploit infrastructure connected to NSO Group, an Israel-based cyber war company that sells Pegasus, a government-exclusive lawful intercept spyware product. NSO Group is reportedly owned by an American venture capital firm, Francisco Partners Management. If infected, Mansoors phone would have become a digital spy in his pocket, capable of employing his iPhones camera and microphone to snoop on activity in the vicinity of the device, recording his WhatsApp and Viber calls, logging messages sent in mobile chat apps, and tracking his movements. Apple immediately released security updates that patched the vulnerabilities identified in the report. Read Citizen Lab Director Ron Deiberts blog post on this report.
Group 5: Syria and the Iranian Connection, another report also released in August, described an elaborately staged malware operation with targets in the Syrian opposition. We named the operator Group5, and suspect they have not been previously reported. Group5 used just enough technical sophistication, combined with social engineering, to target computers and mobile phones of well-connected individuals in the Syrian opposition with malware. The report was covered in an exclusive release with the Associated Press, and Director Ron Deibert offered further comment in a blog post.
In another study, researchers discovered the presence of malware attacks coordinated by a sophisticated operator against Emirati journalists, activists, and dissidents. The software, dubbed Stealth Falcon by Citizen Lab researchers, was explored in the report titled Keep Calm and (Dont) Enable Macros: A New Threat Actor Targets UAE Dissidents....

With all of the craziness the Trump administration is throwing at us, there is always a chance that a major story is going to slip through the cracks. Like this one: Remember when Donald Trump stood next to piles of (likely empty) folders and pretended that he would take any number of steps to separate himself from his business interests? His attorney even promised that to prevent further conflicts, the Trump Organization wouldnt do any new international deals.
Well, it now appears that the concept of existing deals can be stretched to an extreme, and include revival of just about any old, dead deal, regardless of prior form.
Such A Deal I Have For You! The AP reports on the negotiations to revive one such deal that the Trump Organization is involved in: licensing its name to a project that aims to sell 68 ultra luxury lots and other properties at Punta Cana in the Dominican Republic.
The Lebanese-Dominican Hazoury familys company, Cap Cana S.A., financed a fair portion of the project, in the form of bonds. They reportedly accepted auction bids for most of the lots, but the project tanked when the global investment market crashed in 2007-2008, leaving unhappy bondholders after multiple defaults and empty lot owners. Many blame the Hazourys for misappropriation of funds and mismanagement of the project.
The Trumps later sued the business and its principal backers and reportedly received a substantial portion of the initial license fees in settlement in 2013. The Trumps exited, taking back the rights to their name on the project at the time of settlement.
The project remains in disarray, with many lots now reverting to jungle, but time seems to heal all wounds for the Hazourys and their project. Charges of illegality and corruption lodged against the developers with Dominican officials are pending (Spanish language source ...

Hey, like, do you remember when congress proposed to recognize Darwin Day, officially, years ago? Yeah, its been kind of bouncing around for a long time. Didnt pass.
Hey, also, remember when Congressman Paul Broun of Georgia, a member of the House of Representatives Committee on Science, Space and Technology, said a few words about that Darwin stuff?
Gods word is true. Ive come to understand that. All that stuff I was taught about evolution and embryology and the big bang theory, all that is lies straight from the pit of Hell.
Heh. Good times, good times. Hey, didja know this kind of bill has been proposed over and over again, and always dies in that same Committee on Science, Space and Technology? The one that is currently chaired by Lamar Smith, with luminaries like Dana Rohrabacher on board? I wonder how that happens.
Last month, another Darwin Day bill was shuffled off to that committee. How do you think it will fare?
Oh, well, we shall celebrate evolutionary biology in our hearts. Or on YouTube Ill be going live here around noon to play Ask an Evolutionist for a while, as promised.
ISIS social media channels have offered a 1 million dollar reward for the death of Joanna Palani, a Kurdish-Danish currently facing trial in Copenhagen for violating a travel ban.
Palani first left Denmark in 2014 after dropping out of university, when she traveled to Syria to fight for the Peoples Protection Unit (YPG). She then went on to join the Peshmerga forces in Iraq, the Kurdish Regional Governments Western-backed army, after becoming inspired to fight for womens rights, for democracy for the European values I learned as a Danish girl.
As a consequence, Palani was issued with a year-long travel ban and had her passport confiscated by police and Danish intelligence agency PET. Palani is the first foreign fighter to be jailed under new passport laws, and if found guilty of violating the ban, could face up to six months in prison.
How can I pose a threat to Denmark and other countries by being a soldier in an official army that Denmark trains and supports directly in the fight aga...
A revolutionary new concept for a fusion powered rocket could not only deliver an orbiter to Pluto but a lander too!
This video represents a research study within the NASA Innovative Advanced Concepts (NIAC) program. NIAC is a visionary and far-reaching aerospace program, one that has the potential to create breakthrough technologies for possible future space missions. However, such early stage technology development may never become actual NASA missions. For more information about NIAC, visit: www.nasa.gov/niac.
Weve probably all made matchstick rockets as kids. And around here anything that even vaguely looks like a rocket will get some imaginary flight time. But [austiwawa] is making some really cool 3D printed rockets that use common CO2 cartridges as a propellant. You can see them in action in the video below.
You might think just sticking a CO2 cylinder in a 3D printed jacket isnt such a big deal, but [austiwawa] really went the extra mile. He read up on how to make the rocket stable (by manipulating the center of gravity versus the center of pressure) and explains what he had to do to get the rockets flying like youd expect.
In addition, the launch tube is pretty interesting. A 3D printed part holds a sharp point and a spring. You lock the spring and when released it punches a clean hole in the propellant casing. The actual tube is a long piece of PVC pipe. From the video, it looks like these little rockets fly pretty high.
Judging from the video, the rocket body and launcher came from TinkerCAD. The way [austiwawa] put the fins on was both simple and clever.

Hacker was a term used to denote a skilled programmer who had competency in machine code and operating systems. Such individuals were proficient in solving unsatisfactory problems and often interpreted competitors code to work as intelligence agents for small software companies. However, over a period of time, hacking has a more negative implication, as black hat hackers have caused irreparable damage by breaking into secure networks to destroy, modify, or steal data; or to make the network unusable for those who are authorized to use the network. They also sell information about the security holes, zero-day vulnerabilities, and exploits to other criminals for them to use.
As a result, in order to try and bring cybe...
For those who havent already heard, Corey Feldman (arguably the biggest child actor of the 80s) went public about being sexually abused by Hollywood moguls many times over the course of his childhood. He describes how he and fellow former child star Corey Haim were constantly fed drugs and taken advantage of. Feldman started speaking out after the death of his friend, explaining that the trauma Haim experienced as a child played a large role in his death.
This isnt the first time an actor or actress has come out; Allison Arngrim, the former Little House on the Prairie star, also wrote about her own experiences in the book Confessions of a Prairie Bitch, revealing how she was abused multiple times.
Sex abuse charges have been laid many times against Hollywood employees. Martin Weiss is one of them, a 47-year-old Hollywood manager who represented several child actors. Another one is Jason James Murphy, 35, a casting agent who frequently worked with young clients.
On a personal note, based on everything I have looked at over the years I have no doubt in my mind that Hollywood is filled with pedophiles and occultists. The same group of corporations that own Hollywood also own major oil, energy, pharmaceutical companies, and more. This group controls the entire military industrial complex, including Hollywood. You can read more about that here, in an article which examines one major shareholder of the few corporations that control the entertainment industry, among others as mentioned above.
Id also like to mention that Randy Quaid went on record saying that there are a group of star whackers in Hollywood. He said that actors...

Has SELinux got you down by blocking your apps or causing general havoc? Instead of disabling it, discover how to use the SELinux Alert Browser to solve those problems.
If you're using a Linux distribution that takes advantage of SELinux, such as CentOS, Red Hat, Fedora, or SUSE, you know it can be a blessing and a curse. While SELinux is an incredibly powerful tool that goes a very long way to keep your Linux-powered machines secure, it can be a nightmare to configure. Fortunately, there is a tool called SELinux Alert Browser that can ease those troubles.
With SELinux Alert Browser, you can get quick solutions when SELinux is causing you issues. In fact, you'd be hard-pressed to find an easier route to solving your SELinux-based headaches.
[...] The Troubleshoot button will reveal possible actions you can take to resolve your issue. In some cases sealert will instruct you how to have SELinux stop auditing the issue; in other cases sealert will show how to generate a new policy module that allows an object (such as xenconsoled) access to a resource.
When SELinux Alert Browser makes suggestions, they will be in the form of commands you can run to solve the problem. If you agree with the suggestion offered by sealert, go back to the Terminal window and issue the suggested command(s). Hopefully, your issue will be resolved. If you're unsure that access should be allowed, I highly recommend doing research before issuing the suggested command(s).
Any Soylentils ever get so fed up with SELinux that you just disabled it? Think this might have avoided that?

Oh, how the mighty hath fallen. Going by the old testament, or the apocrypha, which was cut in the final edit, Jehovah was very much what one could call an interventionist god, even if that isnt terribly accurate. Jehovah got bored a lot, and had many temper tantrums or warped whims, so any situation it bothered to intervene in was one it had caused in the first place. According to Todd Starnes, Jehovah has once again been busy with intervention:
I would not discount the power of what Franklin Graham did, Starnes said. He did not endorse, but what he did do in 2016 was stage massive prayer gatherings at every single state capital in the country. And I believe that we experienced divine intervention last November and I believe that God was giving us a second chance. So weve been given a second chance and Christians, weve got to stand up and weve got to get it right.
Huh. Thats not much in the godly intervention stakes, is it? Especially when the reality of the whole sorry mess is right there, plain to see. But no, it must be Jehovah, must! Well, even if you believed such nonsense, its quite the sad and sorry show for the god who ran rampant and drenched in blood in the old days. As the Tiny Dictator would say, Loser!
Going by Lance Wallnau, Jehovah is up to a slightly more impressive intervention, by making Trump an exorcist.
Wallnau said he knows the real reason that millions of people marched against the new president the day after the inauguration: Upon taking office, Trump evicted an evil spirit of witchcraft from the White House, causing that demonic spirit to go out into the general population.
What I believe is happening is there was a deliverance of the nation from the spirit of witchcraft in the Oval Office, he said. The spirit of witchcraft was in the Oval Office, it was about to intensify to a higher level demon principality, and God came along with a wrecking ball [Trump] and shocked everyone, the church cried out for mercy and bamGod knocked that spirit out, and what youre looking at is the manifestation of an enraged demon through the spirit....
The Trump administration has dropped the federal governments challenge to a nationwide injunction issued last year that blocked the fulfillment of Obama administration guidelines stating that transgender students access to bathrooms and other gender-segregated school facilities was protected under existing federal civil rights law.
The injunction was issued in August by Judge Reed OConnor of the Federal District Court for the Northern District of Texas as part of a lawsuit filed by more than a dozen states over the Obama administrations position that Title IX, the federal law that bans sex discrimination in schools, protects transgender students.
Under that interpretation, transgender students have access to facilities like bathrooms and locker rooms that correspond with their gender identity, a proposition to which social conservatives strongly object. They argue that allowing transgender students to use those facilities poses a threat to the privacy and safety of other students.
No. The only threat posed is to transgender students, and they way to assuage that is to allow them to use the fucking bathrooms that correspond with their fucking gender identity. This isnt hard
The rolling back of rights fought hard for continues. Its not hard to figure out whos next. Cheeto Hitler and his Nazi Government* are going to take us back to the 1700s in terms of civil rights.

A decision has been made by a committee of the Seattle City Council after vote results favoured a divestment of $3 billion of city money from Wells Fargo, following the banks role in the construction of the recently reinstated building of the Dakota Access Pipeline.
According to a record by the Seattle Times, council members Kshama Sawant and Tim Burgess co-sponsored the bill. At the time that the bill was being heard before the Affordable Housing, Neighborhoods and Finance Committee, pipeline opposition activists were gathered outside in protest against the building of the pipeline. Huge campaigns and public pressure to divest from the banks that are contributing to the building of the pipeline is what led to the preliminary hearing.
Energy Transfer Partners was forced to stop the construction of the pipeline when the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers stated that a full environmental impact assessment must first be carried out. The halting of the project was seen as a small victory and was expected to last quite a while, whilst officials assessed the safety of the Dakota Access undercutting...

We are prepared to put our bodies between Native elders and a privatized military force, Elizabeth Williams, a U.S. Air Force veteran, told the Guardian on her decision to come to Standing Rock as a human shield.
Williams and perhaps hundreds of other military veterans are descending on several remaining camps at Cannon Ball, North Dakota, near the banks of the Missouri Rivers Lake Oahe reservoir in a last stand against construction of the Dakota Access Pipeline.
This is a humanitarian issue, asserted U.S. Navy veteran Matthew Crane. Were not going to stand by and let anybody get hurt.
But things could get ugly. They have multiple times in the past.
Indeed, hostilities have increased on every front the Standing Rock Sioux Tribe Council voted to ask water protectors not from the area to go home. A multi-state police force led by the Morton County Sheriffs Department randomly employs violence against water protectors it also wishes would leave.
Meanwhile, the few hundred water protectors remaining in Standing Rock have vowed to halt the pipeline, no matter the cost up to and including paying with their lives. Thats where the veterans come in they see shielding the unarmed water protectors as not only the right thing to do, but as duty.
And they are well prepared.
Weve stood in the face of fire before,
Williams continued. We feel a responsibility to use the
skills we have.
Jake Pogue, a veteran of the Marines, expressed concerns about possible police tactics in coming days and told the Guardian, Were not coming as fighters, but as protectors. Our role in that situation would be to simply form a barrier between water protectors and the police force and try to take some of that abuse for them.
This is no ordinary protest camps at Standing Rock began breaking ground in April last ye...
Steve Warburton is an artist in Australia, with a very interesting perspective. The work is evocative, and I find many of the pieces to be of an expansive nature for me, they are pieces to ponder, not just savour, and allow all the different layers of associations to come up. Theres a distinct sense of dystopia in many of the pieces, but they are all the more beautiful in their poignancy, and the hope that we do not follow such paths to their inescapable conclusions. Definitely worth spending some time, going through the galleries!
I didnt include much here, because the galleries are set up for viewing, not borrowing, so have a wander, expand your mind, and let your imagination take you on a trip. Steve Warburton.

This is a claim of responsibility for causing disruption to the Pacific Northwest Corridor Rail Line north of Vancouver WA. On several occasions over the last few weeks, 6-Gauge Booster cables were attached to rail junctions at several points along the rail lines. Artificially triggering the railway signalling system. This is a low risk and easily reproducible form of sabotage that can potentially cause massive delays and economic losses to the every day functioning of extraction industries.
This particular railway was targeted because it is a key transportation rout for crude oil from the Bakken region of North Dakota. Over 1000 oil-trains pass through this rail line annually. The practice of crude-oil-by-rail poses an immediate threat to local communities and ecosystems with the prospect of derailment always present. This is a direct act of solidarity with those continuing the resistance to the Dakota Access Pipeline in the face of recuperation and brutal government repression.

Military exercises are a form of imperial messaging. Right now, the US has troops in Poland in what is being described with Orwellian irony as anti-Russian aggression NATO exercises
The troops will rotate training in Bulgaria, Estonia, Hungary, Latvia, Lithuania, Poland, Romania and Slovakia for the next nine months. The regional training exercises are also designed to test how U.S. forces respond on short notice to a possible conflict with Russia.
Nothing shows your commitment to resisting aggression like deploying the largest force youve deployed since the end of the Cold War, and ordering them to drive around the edge of another powers border. Because aggressive behavior in the name of anti-aggression is not remotely like military aggression. Its a show of peaceful force. Like Gandhi with 150mm self-propelled artillery, sort of.

Charly sent photos of more of his moms (and his) work in knipling. Absolutely gorgeous doves! Charly says: These two doves were made in 2011. The first one is my mothers design. After she made it, I asked her if she could do another one with my design, and she did. My input included not only new outline, but I also suggested the use of different colours and different lace /knotting. The difference in style is quite apparent. The first dove is what would be called traditional style, because in this style are made laces, collars, doilies etc.
Pictures are behind glass, so I had to adjust colour saturation and levels to bring the colours out so the pictures look like the real fabric and not too grey. They are actually larger than life on screen, in reality they are only approximately 35 cm (14 inches) diagonally. For completenesss sake I am also including the templates, I think you might find them interesting.
I definitely find them interesting! Click for full size.

Reporting Process for the ABG
Since the inception of the Autonomous Bougainville Government there have been numerous development plans that have not come into fruition.
While many of these plans have been well laid out they lacked further development due to incapacitation issues in the Bougainville Administration to carry them out to a successful end.
Chief Secretary to the ABG Joseph Nobetau said that he has reviewed many of these plans and has come to the conclusion that though these plans were well-formed they lacked action after their development.
This problem is not unique only to Bougainville and I do not want to detract from the important work many of our dedicated public servants have undertaken in the past, Nobetau said.
Rather, I see the need for the Bougainville Public Service to build on that former planning work in undertaking new corporate and strategic planning so that we can measure and asses our success, he said.
Nobetau further stated that it was not enough to develop a plan in and of itself; the public service needed to move past the development and launch phase of the planning process to the implementation phase to prove its worth to the government and the people of Bougainville.
Mr Nobetau also revealed that in the coming months a new formal reporting process to the government will be implemented that allows the administration to measure and asses the success of the public service in meeting key corporate and strategic planning goals.
As it stands the reporting process will be divided into four key quadrants; Budget and Financial Management, Civil Society, Peace and Law and Order, Social Services (Health, education etc) and Economic Development, Growth and Infrastructure.
The aim of the reporting process will be to document activities and actions that seek to address and meet the priorities of the government, it will also act as a monitoring and evaluation mechanism that allows for improvement.
I firmly believe that 2017 will be a year of transformation for the public service and I ask all Bougainville Public Servants to join with me as we embark on this exciting journey to make Bougainville the Black Pearl of the Pacific as she truly is, Nobetau encouraged.

The big G spot! Strategies and tactics to avoid SEO golden showers from TPTB.
This video is a brief discussion of the recent coca-colaing = censorship of the alt media by the bit G spot.
The masters of the big G spot have instructed the working metal heads in the bowels of the googlebeast to ratchet down the valves on alt media under the guise of a plan that we call here the golden showers such that traffic dries up and we all blow our way into history.
One of my thoughts, as this is all being done with algos that have to work on linguistic structures, is to deliberately alter our own language patterns in videos and written material. Now, please note, this tactic is NOT trying to escape their algo, but rather, in a guerrilla fighter fashion, we use this approach to derail the intent of the algo, and to co-opt it into being our bitch.
The strategy of resistance, and this tactic, as well as a few others are discussed in this video about the subject.
Please note that in this description you will have been reading deliberately and precisely placed uses of specific language forms to start off the tactic with this very video.
So to note that the tainting talk includes the slap on the back of the guy wearing the tuxedo with your hand covered in stinking tar. This tactic is illustrated by my reference to Casey Neistat, commonly known as the YouTube Sellout.
If you run a site that deals in real news, real stuff, conspiracy investigation, anti-globalist agenda, space aliens, out of place artifacts, milab (military abductions), gold, silver, bitcoin, alternative views on physics or chemistry, then you need to be monitoring your social media trends as the big G spot, and the equivalent masters of social over at Facebook, have decided to scrub the annoyance out of their lives, and that means you.
This is where we have power; we out number the bastards. Yes, they have digital power, and lots of computing power, but we own the language that is their main source of tools to enslave us.
Another source of power is that computer software is dumb. Really really dumb. Aint no such thing as AI, or machine learning.it is all just very very very fast idiots able to do some maths. But computers do not understand any of the following: words, context, connotations, denotation, grammar, slang. Thus we own their algos, should we decide to use that power.
Remember, change your language and the whole of the big G spot MUST spend tons of money, time, and energy to change as well. They need that time, energy, and money to be and remain competitive. Every time you change your language usage, you degrade their algos effectiveness and force them to address t...

Of the 45 persons who have served as president, only one ever received a Letters Patent for an invention: a man whose 208th birthday we commemorate on the twelfth of this month. A week after retiring from Congress, Abraham Lincoln filed a patent application for his invention Buoying Vessels over Shoals, an inflatable floatation device for freeing a river boat run aground in shallow water.
The Patent Office issued Lincolns patent 6,469 a few months later on May 22, 1849. Lincoln conceived his side-mounted hull bellows from knowledge gained as a circuit lawyer in Illinois on behalf of conflicting transportation interests. As the citizenry expanded westward, these means included river vessels and railroads, particularly at bridge intersections. Despite the effort he put into it, Lincolns bellows were never commercialized, and controversy lingers as to whether his concept would have successfully functioned.
America in the nineteenth century exhibited an inventive spirit, particularly in agriculture where most people gained their livelihood. The sparseness of rural population necessitated mechanization for grain crops in the Midwest, particularly for harvesting.
Cyrus McCormick and John Manny were the most famous producers of reaping machines. In 1855, the former sued the latter for $400,000 over infringement on two patents. With public attention on the upcoming courtroom battle, both sides hired big-league legal teams. Among others, McCormick retained the future Secretary of State William H. Seward from New York, while Manny retained the future Secretary of War Edwin M. Stanton from Philadelphia.
Because McCormick v. Manny was to be tried in Chicago, Mannys lawyers decided to hire a member of the Illinois bar, selecting an obscure attorney from Springfield. Lincolns unpolished speech, ill-fitting clothing, and back-woodsman appearance dismayed the defense team to such extent that Stanton described him as a damned gawky long-armed ape. The venue transferred to Cincinnati, enabling Stanton to personally present arguments in court, which resulted in a favorable bench verdict.
The Reaper patent infringement suit marked a turning point for Lincoln, despite his sidelined participation. Uninformed of the venues change, Lincoln labored on legal arguments in a lengthy brief, which was summarily discarded, unread. Nonetheless, Lincoln listened with rapt attention to Stantons arguments in court, later reporting to Ralph Waldo Emerson that he would return home t...

The evolution of the horse occurred over a period of 50 million years, transforming the small, dog-sized, forest-dwelling Eohippus into the modern horse. Paleozoologists have been able to piece together a more complete outline of the evolutionary lineage of the modern horse than of any other animal.
The horse belongs to the order Perissodactyla, the members of which all share hooved feet and an odd number of toes on each foot, as well as mobile upper lips and a similar tooth structure. This means that horses share a common ancestry with tapirs and rhinoceroses. The perissodactyls arose in the late Paleocene, less than 10 million years after the CretaceousPaleogene extinction event. This group of animals appears to have been originally specialized for life in tropical forests, but whereas tapirs and, to some extent, rhinoceroses, retained their jungle specializations, modern horses are adapted to life on drier land, in the much harsher climatic conditions of the steppes. Other species of Equus are adapted to a variety of intermediate conditions.
The early ancestors of the modern horse walked on several spread-out toes, an accommodation to life spent walking on the soft, moist grounds of primeval forests. As grass species began to appear and flourish, the equids diets shifted from foliage to grasses, leading to larger and more durable teeth. At the same time, as the steppes began to appear, the horses predecessors needed to be capable of greater speeds to outrun predators. This was attained through the lengthening of limbs and the lifting of some toes from the ground in such a way that the weight of the body was gradually placed on one of the longest toes, the third.

Ive been very concerned with the report of a security breach in President Trumps first military mission that he approved. This most likely means there is a traitor in the midst of Trumps core team. The Jan. 29th raid sending in SEAL Team 6 to penetrate an al-Qaida compound in Yemen was done under the tightest need-to-know security procedures as far as the military goes; but someone tipped the targets of the raid off because even though it was a moon-less night, as soon as Seal Team 6 hit the ground, they were met with ferocious resistance. As a result of the intense firefight, SEAL Team 6 member Ryan Owens was killed and two other SEALS were wounded. In addition, 23 civilians were killed and a $90 million Osprey, tilt-rotor aircraft was destroyed. This was a very unusual outcome for a SEAL raid. Everything is done to keep the operation secret, especially among the military side of the operation. As a result, when I first heard the news, there was one person who immediately fell under my suspicion, someone on the new White House staff who has no experience working in a secure environment, and no appreciation for the military, or how determined they can be to investigate the source of a security breach. My prime candidate would be Reinhold Richard Priebus. New Delhi: In an event organised by Indus Syndicate at India International Centre on January 28, 2017, Mukul Kesavan and Srinath Raghavan delved into various aspects of nationalism. A full transcript (edited for clarity) is below.
Srinath Raghavan (SR): Good evening everyone, thanks for being here today. Mukul before you help us with nationalism, help us out why are we talking about nationalism today? Indian nationalism has got to be the oldest subject ever since the Indian nation has been around. I mean, people were talking about it even while the nation was coming into being. So why choose a Saturday evening to talk about nationalism?
Mukul Kesavan (MK): Especially when the talk scheduled for the Saturday evening has this enormous, hugely informative title with just nationalism. I think there is reason for this, we dont have to pretend not to notice the elephant in the room. The past year has seen nationalism of a particular sort in the ascendant all over the world and while we could argue about whether everything thats happened in England or America or might happen in France or has happened earlier in Turkey or Russia whether they are the same phenomenon.
We can certainly see that there is a certain enthronement of a particular form of nationalism and as desis we have the privilege of being slightly smug about this because we got here three years ago in 2014, so in a sense we anticipated much of what has happened since. I think thats the reason we are here.
SR: Okay lets just skin the cat a little bit, so one way of thinking about nationalism to say what the great Czech nationalist Jan Masaryk use to say, that nationalism is a ideology which says that the nation is the highest political value. If you look back as a historian at Indian nationalism it seems to me that the peculiar thing about Indian nationalism is that most Indian nationalists insisted that nation was not the highest political value, so in that sense is there something different? I hesitate to use the word exceptional because all nationalisms believe they are exceptional, but was there something fundamentally different about Indian nationalism?
MK: As you say, all nationalisms claim to be exceptional and unique and peculiarly interesting. But what you say a...

We tend to associate racist and sexist attitudes with uneducated, low-income working class people
In the British case, the working class here the uneducated low-income working class people whose conduct is to be explained is normally implicitly white while, in the American case, commentators refer explicitly to the white working class. After a flurry of efforts to explain Britain's Brexit vote and Trump's election in terms of working class disaffection from mainstream politics, and particularly from what many commentators still view as progressive political parties, more-informed commentators pointed out that the LEAVE victory was not simply down to the working class while others (eg Hsia-Hung-Pai openDemocracy 11 July 2016) insisted that the British working class was not entirely white.
The same paper gives a clear example of the assumption Hsia-Hung-Pai disputes, continuing that many find it difficult to fathom ... that [racist & sexist] attitudes are not only those of uneducated low-income classes, but that they are prevalent amongst the educated middle classes before contrasting both the uneducated low-income classes and educated middle classes to people of colour, thereby implying that members of the classes in question are without colour, ie.white.

Pinterest IPO Could Be in the Cards
If 2017 is going to be a major year for big-tech initial public offerings (IPOs), then its going to need more moves from companies like Pinterest, Inc.
With the Snap Inc. IPO leading the way, many investors are hoping that Snap (which runs Snapchat) is the first domino to fall, and are hoping that many other leading private tech companies will take their business to the open market. That hope includes the potentially juicy Pinterest IPO.
The thing about IPOs.
I am a firm believer in the people, Abraham Lincoln supposedly once said. If given the truth, they can be depended upon to meet any national crisis. The great point is to bring them the real facts.
While Republicans love to refer to themselves as the Party of Lincoln, they seem to disagree wholeheartedly with the sentiment of this quote. They certainly dont want the American people to have facts and nobody in their right mind would ever refer to their current standard-bearer as Honest Don.
The GOPs War on Information, however, goes back much further than the current national gaslighting campaign spearheaded by Donald Trump and Kellyanne Conway. Republicans and their allies have been fighting against facts for years.
One of the best-known examples is the so-called Dickey Amendment, which was first passed in 1996 and effectively ended the Centers for Disease Control and Preventions research on gun violence. Rep. Jay Dickey (R-AR), after whom the amendment is named, has since expressed regret that the language he introduced has had that effect on this type of research.
In the area of climate science, the fossil fuel industry and its GOP allies in Congress have been trying to obscure facts for decades through a well-funded campaign. Most recently, this effort included trying to cut back funding for climate change research conducted by NASA and the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration and denying funds to the Department of Defense to investigate what impact the warming of the planet would have for the US military.
Last year, Republicans also backed an effort to prevent the IRS from collecting information on big money donors who give to nonprofit organizations, many of which are used for influencing elections. While national sunshine groups opposed that legislation, the Koch brothers supported it.
With Trump in the White House and a GOP majority in Congress, these (and many other) efforts to keep the government from collecting data that could prove harmful to those funding the Party of Lincoln will likely be revived and expanded this year.
But the Republican anti-information crusade is not limited to big ticket items that capture national attention, such as gun violence or climate change.
A little-known bill introduced last month by Sens. Marco Rubio (R-FL) and Mike Lee (R-UT) called the Local Zoning Decisions Protection Act of 2017 wou...

Republican green-card holder who voted illegally in Texas gets 8 years in prison
By Amy B Wang, February 11 at 5:54 PM
A permanent U.S. resident living in Texas has been sentenced to eight years in prison for illegally voting, a punishment that will probably result in the womans deportation after she completes her sentence.
On Wednesday, a Tarrant County, Tex., jury convicted 37-year-old Rosa Maria Ortega on two felony charges of illegal voting, for casting a ballot as a noncitizen in 2012 and 2014. Ortega is a green-card holder who was brought to the United States from Mexico when she was an infant, her attorney said.
However, Ortegas lawyer and others said the punishment was unusually harsh and meant to appease those who are swept up in the Trump hysteria where he is trying to find an explanation for why he lost the popular vote.

Tripadvisor War hurts hospitality business Camiguin Island (and probably elsewhere). Fake accounts post fake reviews on Tripadvisor.
I myself use Tripadvisor when preparing one of our multiple journeys each year. I take the time to read the reviews and I inspect the Poor and Terrible reviews. We recently had been in Vietnam and Cambodia. The Tripadvisor recommendations made our trip unforgettable all the hotels, inns and restaurants were absolutely matching our expectations. If you want to have alook at my reviews, go to Tripadvisor and look for waebi.
Bad reviews can heavily damage the business of any hotel, resort, inn or restaurant. When I am unhappy, I directly contact the owner or manager on duty. If this isnt possible, I contact him or her by e-mail or their websites contact form. And only then, when I do not receive any answer or a rude answer, I publish a negative review on Tripadvisor, Agoda or Venere. Booking.com is too silly, I do not use them anymore. Up to now I had only twice been in the need to publish a really negative evaluation on these public platforms.
Is it a troll or is it an act of vengeance? Any way hit happens and it happens repeatedly. Last Thursday, February 9, 2017, a user calling himself marlaeschool and saying to be from Amsterdam, Holland, did post a series of 5 reviews on Camiguins restaurants.
Two of these reviews are poor to terrible. Are they true? NO! They arent true. I know both restaurants. I frequently eat there and in the case of Casa Roca, I am eating there for now many years at least twice a...
According to a report from The Wall Street Journal , Chinese smartphone manufacturer Xiaomi is looking to join the ranks of Apple, Samsung, and Huawei by developing its own smartphone chips. The report says the move is part of "aspirations to join the top tier" of smartphone manufacturers and an attempt to stand out from the slew of other OEMs.
For now, Xiaomi's processor is apparently called "Pinecone," and it will be released "within a month" according to the report. This might be talking about the processor of the Xiaomi Mi 6, which, if Xiaomi keeps to the usual yearly release cycle, should be out sometime in March. Xiaomi's chip design division isn't coming from nowhereusing a shell company called "Beijing Pinecone Electronics," Xiaomi paid $15 million to acquire mobile processor technology from Datang subsidiary Leadcore Technology Ltd.

An impending train crash. Those are the words increasingly being used to describe Madrids seemingly intractable conflict with Spains separatist north-eastern region of Catalonia. The latest flashpoint in tensions is the political show trial of Catalonias former president, Artur Mas, and two other Catalan politicians for their role in organizing a purely symbolic, non-binding referendum on national independence in November, 2014.
Mas has been charged with serious disobedience and other crimes for ignoring a court injunction against the unofficial vote, which the central government in Madrid considered illegal. If found guilty he could be barred from public office for up to ten years.
For Catalonias separatist movement, the trial has provided yet another PR coup just as popular support for the movement was beginning to wane. Once again, the outside world is being reminded, no matter how briefly, about the regions national aspirations and the central governments increasingly repressive efforts to thwart them.
Apart from the estimated 3,000 Catalan-based companies that have upped sticks for other parts of Spain, particularly Madrid where business taxes are lowest, the political tensions and uncertainty have had limited direct repercussions on Catalonias macro-economy.
But that could be about to change, what with the simmering war of words and gestures once again reaching fever pitch
Istanbul: A Turkish court on Saturday remanded in custody an Uzbek national accused of killing 39 people in an Istanbul nightclub on New Years Day, state-run media said, an attack the authorities blamed on ISIS.
Abdulgadir Masharipov, who was caught in a police raid in Istanbul on January 16, was formally charged with membership of an armed terrorist group, multiple counts of murder, possession of heavy weapons and attempting to overturn the constitutional order, the state-run Anadolu news agency said.
ISIS claimed responsibility a day after the mass shooting at the exclusive Reina nightclub on the shores of the Bosphorus waterway, saying it was revenge for Turkish military involvement in Syria.
NATO member Turkey is part of the US-led coalition against ISIS and launched an incursion into neighbouring Syria in August to drive the Sunni militants, and Kurdish militia fighters, away from its borders.
The jihadist group has been blamed for at least half a dozen attacks on civilian targets in Turkey over the past 18 months, prompting the authorities to intensify their efforts to break up its suspected networks in the country.
Police in the southern city of Adana detained a Danish and a Swedish citizen suspected of receiving weapons and explosives training in Syria and of planning attacks in Europe, Anadolu said on Saturday.
On Thursday, police in Gaziantep, another city near the Syrian border, detained four ISIS suspects believed to be planning attacks in Turkey, along with suicide belts and explosives.
The arrests came after the biggest round-up targeting the jihadist group in Turkey last weekend, in which 748 suspects were detained.
By focusing on serving an unsustainable debt rather than addressing high unemployment, Syriza has set the stage for a right-wing victory in future elections, says former parliamentarian Costas Lapavitsas.

I'm taking John Prine's advice:
It's about my mortal frame.
Its not real if you call it fake news:
For the first time, US investigators say they have corroborated some of the communications detailed in a 35-page dossier compiled by a former British intelligence agent, multiple current and former US law enforcement and intelligence officials tell CNN. As CNN first reported, then-President-elect Donald Trump and President Barack Obama were briefed on the existence of the dossier prior to Trumps inauguration.
None of the newly learned information relates to the salacious allegations in the dossier. Rather it relates to conversations between foreign nationals. The dossier details about a dozen conversations between senior Russian officials and other Russian individuals. Sources would not confirm which specific conversations were intercepted or the content of those discussions due to the classified nature of US intelligence collection programs.
But the intercepts do confirm that some of the conversations described in the dossier took place between the same individuals on the same days and from the same locations as detailed in the dossier, according to the officials. CNN has not confirmed whether any content relates to then-candidate Trump.
The corroboration, based on intercepted communications, has given US intelligence and law enforcement greater confidence in the credibility of some aspects of the dossier as they continue to actively investigate its contents, these sources say.
Reached for comment this afternoon, White House Press Secretary Sean Spicer said, We continue to be disgusted by CNNs fake news reporting.
Its interesting that the intelligence agencies continue to investigate Donald Trumps connections to the Russians even after hes president and even after hes put in a new CIA director and a new Secretary of Defense. Youd think that he could put a stop to it, but somehow it doesnt appear that he can. Trumps National Security Adviser, Michael Flynn, is getting savaged, too.
So, whats the shelf-life on this presidency again?
This piece in The Hill does a good job of describing how difficult it will be for Paul Ryan's House of Representatives to achieve all their legislative goals this year. It doesn't mention the effort to confirm a new Supreme Court Justice because that's the Senate's job, but ultimately nothing becomes a law unless both the House and Senate vote on it. So, in reality, the battle over Merrick Garland's stolen seat on the Supreme Court will add to the backlog on the must-do list.
Doing the committee work and scheduling all the votes present daunting challenges. But there are two other major hurdles. One is a lack of cohesiveness within the Republican caucus. Consider that when Speaker Ryan gave President Trump a roadmap of his legislative schedule, he omitted any reference to a bill on infrastructure. Trump noticed this and ordered Ryan to include it.
But the House Republicans are never united about spending money on infrastructure, can't agree on how to pay for it, and have a large rump that is ideologically opposed to adding to the deficit.
It appears like everything the leadership and the administration wants to do will run afoul of that ideology. They'll have to pay for construction of a border wall (at least, initially), and their tax reforms will dramatically lower revenue. Trump wants to ramp up defense spending considerably, and it will be hard to avoid losing money when they screw around with the Affordable Care Act.
Before they even get to that, they need to jack up spending to keep the government operating past April 28th, and then they'll have to raise the debt ceiling shortly thereafter. We've seen how difficult it is to get the Republicans to keep the government open and to raise the debt ceiling without relying on Democratic votes. Will enough of them swallow their pride and capitulate on these issues now that the leaders won't have to go begging for Pelosi's support?
There are some other items that the House must do, like reauthorizing the FAA before September is over, and then they have a goal of passing all the appropriations bills by that point, too. Another time sink is the need to do two budgets in one year, which is necessitated by their strategy of using two budget reconciliation bills to achieve the repeal of Obamacare without needing 60 votes in the Senate.
In the Senate, it's not just a Supreme Court battle that will divert their attention. The administration is behind schedule in nominating people to serve at the Assistant and Deputy levels in every department of government. Unless the Democrats allow most of these folks to get confirmed with a voice vote, debating their qualifications will chew up a lot of the legislative clock. And don't forget that there are district and appea...
Politico has a new piece up on low morale in the White House. Its based on interviews with nearly two dozen people whove spent time with Trump in the three weeks since his inauguration. Its kind of amazing to realize that its only been three weeks because, to me, it seems more like a millennium. And I guess the administrations staff feels about the same way.
Really hard to overstate level of misery radiating from several members of White House staff over last few days.
Maggie Haberman (@maggieNYT) February 10, 2017
Its only been three weeks, but thats been long enough for Trump to create a climate where people are very careful who they talk to.' Its been long enough to create a powder-keg of a workplace where job duties are unclear, morale among some is low, factionalism is rampant and exhaustion is running high.
Hell, considering that two visitors to the White House last week said they were struck by how tired the staff looks, things were already so bad after only two weeks that people were wearing down.
Stamina. How does it work?
Yesterday, Trump adviser Kellyanne Conway violated obvious ethics rules and probably the law by pimping Ivanka Trumps product lines, which forced the administration to counsel her and drew an instant rebuke from Congress.
Conways remarks drew a sharp and unusual rebuke from a top Republican lawmaker, House Oversight Committee Chairman Jason Chaffetz (R-Utah), who said that Conways comments were absolutely wrong, wrong, wrong and clearly over the line.
Chaffetz, who has resisted calls by Democrats to investigate potential conflicts related to President Trumps businesses, joined with the Oversight Committees ranking Democrat, Rep. Elijah E. Cummings (Md.), in sending a letter to the Office of Government Ethics calling Conways comments unacceptable. The letter asked the agency to recommend discipline given that Trump, who is Conways agency head, holds an inherent conflict of interest due to the involvement of his daughters business.
I can see how something like that might sap your energy and enthusiasm for Making America Great Again.

This is supposed to stiffen the bodys ability to rebuff populist passions that will inevitably arise from time to time and manifest in foolish and panicked legislation in the House of Representatives whose whole body is accountable to the voters every two years.
For the same reason, senators were not supposed to be elected directly by the people, but the corruption that seemed to attend every vacancy in the Senate caused progressives to push for reform. In 1913, the 17th Amendment was ratified. It was an advance in accountability but a blow to the Senates independence. After all, we already had one representative body, and its design was calibrated to reflect the actual distribution of population in the country. The Senates two-seats-per-state rule isnt representative at all, so its hard to discern its purpose if all it does is act as a second directly elected legislature.
The Senates filibuster rule has served as one meaningful distinction with the House. By requiring unanimous consent to do anything, and a supermajority (once 67 votes, now 60 votes) to overcome a lack of unanimous consent, the rule gave power to the minority party and assured that some compromise was necessary. This has served our nation as a kind of ballast that lengthens the wavelength of our political oscillation in power. It has made sudden change difficult, with a trade off of unique reliability and stability. We could spend a lot of time considering the tradeoffs involved. Injustices tend to persist for longer periods here than in parliamentary systems, but, once attained, rights tend to persist, and the world uses our currency and follows our leadership for reasons that go beyond raw economic and military power.
This has been our system, and it has always been a thumb in the eye of any conceit that were a true direct and representative democracy. Weve lived with, enjoyed and suffered from its flaws and virtues, but it has now fully broken.
Already weakened, the filibuster will most likely soon suffer another blow as it is taken away from the Democrats in order fill a stolen seat on the Supreme Court. It may persist a while longer for legislation (as opposed to nominations) but the principle that undergirds the filibuster will be eviscerated. If the Senate Democrats obstruct President Trumps legislative agenda, the filibuster will go the way of the Whigs.
Its not unprecedented, but its a good example of the unrepresentative nature of the Senate that the members who voted against the nomination of Betsy DeVos (all the Democrats and two Republicans) represent...

The changes that are taking place in todays world often are so rapid and unpredictable that they leave certain US and European politicians utterly confused. The state those people often find themselves in can be most accurately described as panic, as they feel the floor falling out from underneath their feet. Those people are unable to explain why the comfortable carefree life that theyve been enjoying for decades is nowhere to be found, while the presumably unipolar suddenly looks multipolar. In their understanding the sole superpower should be determining the way that our world works, and this situation should be carried on to infinity. Perhaps those gentlemen didnt care enough to study Hegel back when they were students. When repetitive processes are getting accumulated they lead to a qualitative change in any system. It would be a gross mistake to assume that the changing balance of powers in the world today can be escaped or ignored.
How can one fail to recognize the fact that Chinas buying power has already surpassed Washingtons? Is it possible to ignore the fact that Russias actions in Syria have tipped the scales in favor of the legitimate government, creating preconditions for a political settlement of the conflict.
Additionally, it would be naive at best to underestimate the importance of demographic trends. Is it even possible not to take into account the rapid growth of Indias population, which has recently hit the mark of 1.2 original residents, while this impressive population is making rapid advancements in high-tech industries. So by stating that the world would remain unipolar one drives himself into a cruel time trap. Then he will start claiming that the events that are taking place in the world are completely random, unrelated to the changes taking place in the world. Then Brexit is an accident, Italians voting against the constitutional reform is also an accident, and then, out of the blue, Donald Trump wins the presidential election in the US.
And how many more of such accidents are going to happen in the upcoming elections in the Netherlands, France, Germany, and across the rest of Europe? The easiest way to do in this situation is to dig ones head in the sand and take the ostrich position, but this will only complicate the matters even further.
Sometimes, indeed, its amazing how deceiving the Cold War s.....

Ranikhet, Uttarakhand: The keen fight between the Congress and the BJP across Uttarakhand has meant that both parties have sent all their warhorses into the battle. The picturesque Ranikhet, a hub of military training, is witnessing a fight between two traditional rivals, sitting MLA and state BJP president Ajay Bhatt and Karan Mahara of the Congress. Bhatt lost to Mahara in 2007, but defeated him in 2002 and 2012, the last time by a wafer thin margin of just 78 votes.
Ranikhet can be seen as a example of the close contests traditionally witnessed between the Congress and the BJP. This time, what has make the contest even more competitive is the entry of BJP-rebel Pramod Nainwal, who contested from the neighbouring Salt constituency last time but lost and was denied a party ticket this time.
The Congress believes that Nainwal could spell doom for Bhatt, one of the tallest figures of the BJP in state politics. The partys argument is that even last time he won through the postal ballot and his victory margin was low in 2002 as well. Also, they say that Nainwals wife is a block president in the constituency and that would ensure a split in the BJP vote.
The Congress has been focussing on stopping Bhatt by intensifying the campaign against him. Former Delhi minister Raj Kumar Chauhan, who has been camping in the constituency in support of Mahara for nearly a fortnight, said the party has been united in its campaign all across the state. Even Rahul ji (party vice president Rahul Gandhi) had two rallies in Ranikhet and Someshwar, and the attendance showed that we are in a strong position, he told The Wire.

Conventional wisdom tells us that good political societies are built on the principles of constitutionalism. This entails upholding the rule of law and separation of powers. This is to ensure an even distribution of power where a society is built on principles of law, not men.
In the 1990s many African states reinvented their constitutions to build good political societies. They moved away from one-party authoritarian states to embrace a constitutional political order and representative democracy. They also enacted two-term presidential limits. This was, as Charles Fombad tells us:
a clear recognition of the need for radical changes In some cases, it meant a total break with a dreadful past but in most cases it meant recognising that a constitutional framework built around the one party system that had bred authoritarian and dictatorial rule was a recipe for political instability and economic decline.
But the limitations on presidential terms have not enti...

Manila: The Philippine police have sacked nearly 100 policemen since the start of the year because they were found to be drug users, a top official said on Saturday, in a clean-up of the ranks after President Rodrigo Duterte halted police anti-drug operations.
More than 7,700 people have been killed since Duterte unleashed his bloody war on drugs seven months ago, about 2,500 in police operations, while the rest are being investigated.
Duterte had been unwavering in defending the police in the face of international outrage over the toll, but his faith was shaken by the killing of a South Korean businessmen late last year by rogue officers.
Ninety police officers have been fired since the start of the year and nine were removed last year, Internal Affairs Service Inspector General Alfegar Triambulo said in comments broadcast on ANC TV.
Those caught using illegal drugs, according to the civil service rules, must be dismissedthat is a grave offence, he said, adding that he had promised the chief of police that he would quickly resolve outstanding cases.
Triambulo said he would recommend, next week, the dismissal of 40 more policemen to the chief of police.
Last month, Duterte denounced the police as corrupt to the core and suspended their role in anti-drug operations, although he vowed to forge ahead with the drug campaign.
Human rights groups suspect many of the killings being investigated were committed by vigilantes or hitmen supported by the police.
The Philippine Drugs Enforcement Agency has been put in charge of anti-drug operations and Duterte has also raised the possibility of getting the military to help.
Prosecutors confirmed that the failed cyber attack on Brussels airport a few hours after dramatic 2016 bombings in Belgiums capital was launched by a US minor.
On March 2016, suicide bombers attacked Zaventem airport and a metro station in the Belgium capital causing Thirty-two people died.
Many more were injured in the attacks. The toll did not include three bombers who died. So-called Islamic State said it was behind the attacks. reported the BBC.
The US youngster, a 14 years old based in Pittsburgh, has admitted having launched a cyber attack on the systems at the Brussels airport.
The young hacker launched a cyber attack against the airports computer system on the night of 22-23 March 2016, but the cyber incursion failed.
In a statement on Thursday, Belgiums federal prosecutors say the attempt to take down Zaventems website and hack into the airports computer system on the night of 22-23 March 2016 was unsuccessful. continues the BBC.
The Belgium authorities conducted a joint investigation with the FBI that allowed them to identify the US minor, who confessed having committed the acts.
The cyber attack has no terrorist motives and according to prosecutors, it was not related to the Brussel bombings.
According to the prosecutors, the FBI identified and interrogated a minor of American nationality who confessed having committed the acts.
From the investigation and the first analyses of the seized hardware it appeared that there were no terrorist motives, the statement added.
The prosecutors say avoided to disclose further information on the case because the investigation is ongoing.

Washington/Marietta: Anti-abortion protesters rallied at scores of Planned Parenthood clinics on Saturday to urge Congress and President Donald Trump to strip the health services provider of federal funding, while supporters of the organisation staged counter-demonstrations around the US.
With anti-abortion groups expecting protests at up to 225 clinics, Planned Parenthood supporters organised 150 protests of their own at parks, government buildings and other sites, including clinics. At some of those clinics, the counter-demonstrators outnumbered those demanding an end to federal funding for Planned Parenthood.
All told, rallies and marches were called in 45 states in cities large and small, from Washington and Philadelphia to St. Paul, Minnesota and Orange, California
As many as 6,000 people turned up for competing demonstrations in St. Paul, Minnesota, police said, but at other places, only a few dozen demonstrators turned out.
We expected that tens of thousands of pro-lifers will be out today sending a message that we want Planned Parenthood to be defunded, Monica Miller, director of Citizens for a Pro-Life Society and one of the national organisers of the anti-abortion rallies, said in a telephone interview.

Nigerian airport employees may walk out over pay issues at the capitals temporary airport while the main airports runway is being repaired, their trade union said on Saturday.
The Abuja airport runway had deteriorated to such an extent that some major international airlines had refused to fly there, and some aircraft reported damage to their undercarriage.
Nigerias government has said airlines will be able to use the airport at the provincial city of Kaduna, 100 miles (160 km) north of Abuja during the six-week repair period from March 8.
But scepticism over the governments plans reigns, as a new terminal for Kaduna was still being built in January and airlines have said they will not fly there to keep servicing Abuja.
The federal government has to pay staff posted from Abuja to Kaduna all their entitlements before we can contemplate moving to Kaduna to give our services, said Olayinka Abioye, secretary general of the National Union Of Air Transport Employees (NUATE).
There have been situations in the past when such staff were owed their travel and other associated entitlements for two to three years. We do not want a repeat.
Abuja-bound passengers will have to temporarily fly to Kaduna and travel by bus under security escort to the capital on a road where kidnappings have taken place in the past few years.
Kaduna airport handled just 12 international flights in December 2015, the last month for which Nigerias airports authority has figures, compared with 812 that used Abuja.
The Guardian reports that the U.S. Army sent a letter, dated 7 February, to member of Congress Ral Grijalva, saying it would grant a permit for the construction of the controversial Dakota Access Pipeline. Work could resume as early as 8 February.
"I have determined that there is no cause for completing any additional environmental analysis," wrote Douglas W Lamon, the senior official performing the duties of assistant secretary of the army, wrote in a notice to the federal register.
More recent news in Standing Rock from Feb 9:
The restarting of the drilling operation, which a pipeline spokeswoman confirmed on Thursday morning, began soon after the US government gave the oil corporation the green light to proceed on Wednesday. The controversial pipeline could be transporting crude oil from North Dakota to Illinois within three months.
At the Standing Rock camps in Cannon Ball where activists have been stationed since last spring to fight the project indigenous and environmental organizers vowed to stay put and continue opposing the pipeline.

The four suspects being held in New York on drug-trafficking charges after extradition from Kenya are also thought to be heavily involved in the ivory trade, according to US-based investigators.
Baktash and Ibrahim Akasha, brothers and Kenyan nationals, were arrested in Mombasa and flown to New York on January 30 along with Indian citizen Vijaygiri Goswami and Gulam Hussein, a Pakistani.
The four are accused of conspiring to ship 98 kilogrammes of heroin to the US from Kenya. They appeared in federal court in Manhattan on Friday in shackles and prison uniforms.
If convicted, the four alleged kingpins of the so-called Akasha Organisation could be sentenced to life imprisonment in the US.
The Akasha brothers and Mr Goswami and Mr Hussein are also heavily involved in ivory smuggling, says Gretchen Peters, the head of a US company that helps governments fight transnational crime.
Federal prosecutors in New York have not brought ivory-related charges against the four because shipping ivory from Africa to Asia does not constitute a violation of US law, Ms Peters said.
But it is clear that the Akashas were at the top of a regional ecosystem thats moving ivory as well as drugs and weapons on and of...

Nomvula Mokonyanes water department is bankrupt
Nomvula Mokonyane (File, News24)
The critical department is now R4.3 billion in the red, leaving hundreds of contractors unpaid for at least seven months.
Senior executives from National Treasury, the department and a key water board told City Press a few days ago that Cabinet should place it under administration because internal controls, project management and contract management have collapsed.
The situation has become so dire that in late November last year, Finance Minister Pravin Gordhan called a crisis meeting with Water and Sanitation Minister Nomvula Mokonyane to discuss the departments deteriorating finances.
The cash woes come at a time when Mokonyanes department is facing investigations by both Public Protector Busisiwe Mkhwebane and the Special Investigating Unit (SIU), sparked by City Press investigations.
Mkhwebane, who confirmed her probe a few days ago, will investigate the R26 billion Lesotho Highlands Water Project. Mkhwebane and the SIU are investigating tender and other irregularities in the controversial Giyani Emergency Project, the cost of which has already ballooned from R500 million to over R5 billion.
What the documents reveal
Confidential emails, contracts and letters City Press obtained further reveal that:
. The department has unpaid invoices amounting to R1.7 billion for the current financial year. According to the Auditor-General, the department ended the previous financial year with unpaid invoices worth R1.1 billion.
. The same email trail reveals that the Water Trading Entity, a department unit tha...

North Korea has reportedly fired a ballistic missile, in the first test since Donald Trump took office as US president. The ballistic missile was launched on Sunday morning and reached an altitude of about 550 kilometers, according to a South Korean military source. Japanese officials said that the missile did not reach its waters. Japans Prime Minister Shinzo Abe said the test was absolutely intolerable while President Trump assured the visiting Japanese PM that Washington was committed to the security of its key Asian ally. Press TV reports: South Koreas Joint Chiefs of Staff said in a statement that the missile had been fired from around Banghyon, in North Pyongan Province, which is where South Korean officials have said the North test-launched its powerful mid-range Musudan missile on October 15 and 20 last year. The latest missile flew about 500 kilometers and is believed to have fallen into the sea between the Korean Peninsula and Japan. Japans Chief Cabinet Secretary Yoshihide Suga told reporters that the missile did not hit Japanese territorial waters. Buried and hidden in the hundreds of pages of the new format electronic budget documents is the first formal acknowledgement by the government about two new interplanetary missions to Earths immediate neighbours, planned by the Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO). This news comes ahead of ISROs attempting to undertake a launch where it will drop off 104 satellites into space, at 9:28 am on February 15.
Finance minister Arun Jaitley gave the Department of Space a 23% increase in its budget. Under the space sciences section, the budget mentions provisions for Mars Orbiter Mission II and Mission to Venus. The second mission to Mars is tentatively slated for a 2021-2022 timeframe and, per existing plans, it may involve putting a rover on the surface of the red planet.
While Indias first mission to Mars undertaken in 2013 was a purely Indian mission, the French space agency wants to collaborate in making the Mars rover. In fact on a visit to India this month, Michael M. Watkins, director of the Jet Propulsion Laboratory of NASA, said they would be keen to at least put a telematics module so Nasas rovers and the Indian satellites are able to talk to each other.
The second Indian mission to Mars is likely to be all about doing good science since the first one was a technology demonstrator.
Millions of gallons of untreated wastewater and stormwater began dumping into Puget Sound Thursday after high tides and heavy rains overwhelmed a King County wastewater-treatment center in Seattle. Flooding at West Point Treatment Plant in Magnolia's Discovery Park caused damage that apparently fried an electrical circuit and triggered a system shutdown, a spokesman said. That has caused the county to operate the facility much of Thursday in "emergency bypass mode" dumping untreated effluent directly into Puget Sound. Officials were still calculating how much untreated wastewater had flowed into Puget Sound. Doug Williams, a spokesman for the county's Department of Natural Resources and Parks, estimated more than 150 million to 200million gallons, with that number likely to grow. By Thursday night, Williams said the plant was partially back on line and was providing initial treatment to some of the water which had been flowing untreated into the Sound or diverted to other treatment plants. The dumped sewage is a mix of about 90 percent stormwater and 10 percent wastewater, he said. The county has managed to divert nearly 200 million gallons of sewage water headed for West Point to four other treatment facilities, Williams said. Chris Wilke, executive director of Puget Soundkeeper, an environmental watchdog group, said the amount of untreated sewage dumped so far comprises about one-fifth of the typical overflow amount for the area's sewers annually.

Now lets talk about how I got started with Linux.
Guess what? It was because I was poor! The PC I had back in the days of yore ran DOS just fine, but couldnt touch Windows 98 when it came out. Not only that, but Windows was expensive, and I was poor. Luckily, I had time on my hands, so I rooted around on the Internet (at phone modem speed) and eventually lit upon Red Hat Linux, which took forever to download and had an install procedure so complicated that instead of figuring it out I wrote an article about how Linux might be great for home computer use someday in the future, but not at the moment.

Say you have two fruits: an apple and a mango. To see which one has the bigger seed, you have to first cut it, right? Here the fruit is an atom.
The knife to cut an atom is made of charged particles or a source of light. With this, we can cut the atom and observe the fragments coming out and see how they evolve over a period. We can trace back the history of the atom. And now with the advent of laser technology, we can image this in real time!
With this analogy, Vandana Sharma introduced me to her field of research. The 37-year-old heads the Few Body Quantum Dynamics Laboratory at IIT Hyderabad, one of the eight new IITs founded in 2008.
Being less than ten years old with a brand new campus, the institute was not initially on my lab-hopping list. However, the university website changed my mind. It appeared that the R&D wheels were rolling already. Besides, I noticed a happy predominance of young faculty members, many of whom have returned home after being trained at prestigious institutions abroad. Sharma is one of them.
How to cut open an atom
When she first adopted the research problem of imaging atoms during her Ph.D, it was already known that if a charged particle or a photon (a tiny particle of light or electromagnetic radiation) was made to bombard an atom or a molecule sample, this collision would result in the usually-neutral atom losing an electron and becoming positively charged or ionised. Instruments equipped with specialised detectors can sense, amplify and record the electrons that are generated from this collision. These signals tell scientists more about the construction of this atom or the molecule sample it came from.
Though the technology was there, the instruments, called Recoil Ion Momentum Spectrometers (RIMS), were unavailable in India. Even for prestigious academic research institutions like the ISRO-funded Physical Research Laboratory (PRL) in Ahmedabad, where Sharma did her Ph.D, or even IIT, they were too expensive. Thats why back in the early 2000s Bhas Bapat, her Ph.D guide, thought it would be a good idea for them to build their own...
