Trump: The Chickening. "IndyWatch Feed Nthamerica"

UPRISE / ANGRY WOMEN Exhibit artwork, The Untitled Space Gallery, New York – CARA DEANGELIS- Donald Trump with a Crown of Roadkill.

After angrily spitting out spiteful tweets at John Lewis, a true hero, comes the chickening. Once again, Trump displays a capacity only for pettiness and chickenshit behaviour.

Donald Trump’s transition team said on Sunday that the president-elect has canceled a Martin Luther King Jr. Day visit to the Smithsonian Museum of African American History and Culture which features civil rights icon Rep. John Lewis (D-GA)

According to ABC News, sources on the Trump transition team said that “the visit was removed from his calendar due to scheduling issues and was not fully planned out.”

[…]

The decision to cancel the museum visit comes after Lewis questioned the legitimacy of Trump’s presidency due to Russian interference in the U.S. election. Trump fired back on Twitter, accusing Lewis of not taking enough “action” to help his constituents.

Way to go, Donny Dumbass.

9/11 Firefighters Reveal Bombs Destroyed WTC lobby "IndyWatch Feed Nthamerica"

“Condemnation without investigation is the height of ignorance” – Albert Einstein

Newly obtained video that was reluctantly released by NIST after a lawsuit by the International Center for 9/11 Studies shows two firefighters on 9/11 discussing how secondary explosions occurred immediately before the collapse of the twin towers, providing damning new evidence that explosive devices were used to bring down the buildings.

Firemen discuss how bombs were going off in the lobby of WTC1 as they were staging to move up the building.

They explain how the building had already been hit by the plane and fires were already burning. After two explosions in the lobby, a third went off and the whole lobby collapsed.

Listen To 9/11 Firefighters Tell How Bombs Were Going Off In The Lobby Of World Trade Center 1:

Even though it’s an old video, it’s useful to share given the fact that people are still waking up to the possibility that the official story presented to the public was false.

Another important single point of failure is Android. It has brought a lot of freedom to the mobile device world, but it is still a company-controlled project that is not entirely free and, by some measures at least, is becoming less free over time. A shift of emphasis at Google could easily push Android more in the proprietary direction. Meanwhile, the end of CyanogenMod has, temporarily, brought about the loss of our most successful community-oriented Android derivative.

The good news is that the efforts to bring vendor kernels closer to the mainline will bear some fruit this year, making it easier to run systems that, if not fully free, are more free than before. Lineage OS, rising from the ashes of CyanogenMod, should help to ensure the availability of alternative Android builds. But it seems likely that efforts to provide free software at the higher levels of the stack (microG, for example) will languish.

Researchers Claim That Many Impacts Formed the Moon "IndyWatch Feed Tech"

A new proposed model of the formation of Earth's Moon runs counter to the giant impact hypothesis:

The newly proposed theory by researchers Assistant Prof. Hagai Perets, of the Technion, and Weizmann Institute Raluca Rufu (lead author) and Prof. Oded Aharonson, runs counter to the commonly held "giant impact" paradigm that the moon is a single object that was formed following a single giant collision between a small Mars-like planet and the ancient Earth.

"Our model suggests that the ancient Earth once hosted a series of moons, each one formed from a different collision with the proto-Earth," said co-author Assistant Prof. Perets. "It's likely that such moonlets were later ejected, or collided with the Earth or with each other to form bigger moons." To check the conditions for the formation of such mini-moons or moonlets the researchers ran 800 simulations of impacts with the Earth.

The new model is consistent with science's current understanding of the formation of the Earth. In its last stages of the growth, the Earth experienced many giant impacts with other bodies. Each of these impacts contributed more material to the proto-Earth, until it reached its current size. "We believe the Earth had many previous moons," said Assistant Prof. Perets, who added that, "a previously-formed moon could therefore already exist when another moon-forming giant impact occurs."

No Middle Ground. "IndyWatch Feed Nthamerica"

Compromises designed to safeguard both religious freedoms and LGBT rights won’t fly among many of America’s most influential conservative Christians.

Leaders from nearly 90 evangelical seminaries, publications, ministries, and churches—as well as Catholic and Orthodox clergy—signed a statement last month rejecting any legal efforts to protect sexual orientation and gender identity (SOGI).

“[We] believe that proposed SOGI laws, including those narrowly crafted, threaten fundamental freedoms,” they wrote as part of the “Preserve Freedom, Reject Coercion” campaign, hosted by the Colson Center for Christian Worldview.

[…]

Heritage Foundation research fellow Ryan T. Anderson and Princeton University professor Robert P. George wrote for Public Discourse about the legal and moral concerns with such laws more broadly:

SOGI policies attempt to impose, by force of law, a system of orthodoxy with respect to human sexuality: the belief that marriage is merely a union of consenting adults, regardless of biology, and that one can be male, female, none, or both, again, regardless of biology. SOGI laws impose this orthodoxy by punishing dissent, and by treating as irrational the beliefs that men and women are biologically rooted and made for each other in marriage.

There are days when it’s hard to believe these asses just don’t drop dead from an overload of cognitive dissonance. And irony poisoning. And heavy hypocrisy poisoning too. No, there’s no attempt, in any way, to legislate a system of sexual orthodoxy. It’s an attempt to include all people in the circle of full human rights. Marriage certainly should be between consenting adults, and what does it matter what their gender or orientation is? If anyone is attempting to legislate a sexual orthodoxy, it’s creepy Christians. This absurd idea that somehow, somewhere, queer marriage will utterly shatter and destroy hetero marriage. Oddly enough, no one has noticed this happening, although Christians still have the highest incidences of adultery and divorce. Perhaps...

REDUX 1963? The Deep State vs Donald Trump "IndyWatch Feed Nthamerica"

Patrick-HenningsenPatrick Henningsen
21st Century Wire

Watching this week’s Senate cabinet confirmation hearings was one of the most uncomfortable sights I have ever witnessed in politics. One self-aggrandizing US Senator after another, each spouting out half-truths and speaking in innuendo and supposition – as if it were historical fact. The level of ignorance about world events was breathtaking.

Key foreign policy cabinet nominees were Rex Tillerson for Secretary of State, General James Mattis for Defense Secretary, and Mike Pompeo for CIA director. All three men were grilled by a pride of chicken hawks and self-styled foreign policy experts like Senator Roger Wick (R), Marco Rubio (R), Bob Menendez (D) and of course, by Washington’s twin neoconservative ventriloquists, John McCain (R) and Lindsey Graham (R).

Particularly disturbing was the chicken-hawkish bullying by Marco Rubio of Tillerson, where the Florida Senator demanded that a future Secretary of State adopt the bellicose language of the war-monger when describing the Russian President.

1-rubio
YOU MUST COMPLY: Nominee Rex Tillerson is trolled by Senator Marco Rubio.

Regarding events in Syria that Rubio believes are war crimes, but of which there is zero evidence, Rubio asked, “Is Vladimir Putin a war criminal?”

Tillerson replied, “I would not use that term.”

Rubio went on to list things he’s seen on the internet and CNN about Putin’s “attacks on civilians” and accused the Russian leader of killing political opposition leaders and journalists.

Tillerson replied saying, “I would want to have much more information before reaching a conclusion,” and he called Rubio’s accusations, “very serious charges.” That would be the mature answer. But Rubio wanted Tillerson to comply.

“I find it discouraging your inability to cite that, which I think is globally accepted,” Rubio replied.

Protests Increase Over ETP’s Bayou Bridge Pipeline in Louisiana "IndyWatch Feed Enviro"

by Michael Patrick Welch / The Guardian

Scott Eustis did not stop smiling for hours. The coastal wetland specialist with the Gulf Restoration Network was attending a public hearing in Baton Rouge. Its subject was a pipeline extension that would run directly through the Atchafalaya Basin, the world’s largest natural swamp. Eustis was surprised to be joined by more than 400 others.

“This is like 50 times the amount of people we have at most of these meetings,” said Eustis, adding that the proposed pipeline was “the biggest and baddest I’ve seen in my career”.

The company behind the pipeline, Energy Transfer Partners (ETP), had seemed to turn its attention to Louisiana just one day after Native American protesters thwarted the company’s Dakota Access project last month.

A spokeswoman for ETP, Vicki Granado, said the Bayou Bridge pipeline extension was announced in June 2015. If approved, the project will run though 11 parishes and cross around 600 acres of wetlands and 700 bodies of water, including wells that reportedly provide drinking water for some 300,000 families.

At the public hearing in Baton Rouge on Thursday, the first speaker, Cory Farber, project manager of the Bayou Bridge pipeline, said it was expected to create 2,500 temporary jobs. When Farber then said the project would produce 12 permanent jobs, the crowd laughed heartily.

“Those who have airboat companies and equipment companies that specialize in putting in equipment, they’re not opposed to pipelines because of the short-term jobs,” said...

4 Overpopulation Myths That Will Make You Rethink The Current Power Structure "IndyWatch Feed Nthamerica"

By Luke Miller Truth Theory

Uber the world’s largest taxi firm owns no cars. Facebook the largest and most popular media company creates no content. Alibaba fills more shelves than any other retailer, yet they carry no stock. And Airbnb the world’s largest provider of accommodation owns no hotels.

It could be argued that this is just smart business from these companies and with a combined estimated value of $679 billion, I don’t think they are in it for the sharing aspect. However this  has also been born from the collective demand for sharing.

The ideas put forward by Uber, Facebook, Alibaba and Airbnb could be collectively organised by humanity for a global community of shared resources and ideas. Ideally this would be done with the current infrastructure, as to build a new one would be a mammoth (but not impossible) task.

Are We Are Overpopulated?

Consider these facts-

Raising animals for food (including land used for grazing and land used to grow feed crops) now uses a staggering 30% of the Earth’s land mass. (Livestock’s Long Shadow: Environmental Issues and Options, a 2006 report published by the United Nations Food and Agriculture Organization...

CDC “Spider” Scientists attack the CDC, blow the lid off

They write a letter to the CDC chief of staff

And I write a letter to them

by Jon Rappoport

January 15, 2017

There is a group of anonymous scientists at the US Centers for Disease Control—they call themselves the Spider Group—Scientists Preserving Integrity, Diligence and Ethics in Research. They have penned a letter to the CDC’s chief of staff, Carmen S. Villar:

Here is the explosive accusation they make:

“We are a group of scientists at CDC that are very concerned about the current state of ethics at our agency. It appears that our mission is being influenced and shaped by outside parties and rogue interests. It seems that our mission and Congressional intent for our agency is being circumvented by some of our leaders. What concerns us most, is that it is becoming the norm and not the rare exception.”

“Some senior management officials at CDC are clearly aware and even condone these behaviors. Others see it and turn the other way. Some staff are intimidated and pressed to do things they know are not right.”

“We have representatives from across the agency that witness this unacceptable behavior. It occurs at all levels and in all of our respective units. These questionable and unethical practices threaten to undermine our credibility and reputation as a trusted leader in public health.”

I have written at length about another whistleblower at the CDC, William Thompson, a long-time researcher who, in August of 2014, confessed in writing to massive fraud (archive here). He admitted that, in a study on the safety of the MMR vaccine, he and his colleagues literally threw vital sheets of data into a garbage can. The study then gave a free pass to the vaccine, claiming it had no connection to autism—when in fact it did. Thompson is the subject of the film, Vaxxed (trailer).

Now with this letter, we see that other scientists at the CDC are blowing the lid...

More Pirated Movie Screeners Leak Online "IndyWatch Feed Tech"

scrTowards the end of the year, movie screeners are sent out to industry insiders who have to cast their votes for the Oscars and other awards.

Usually, quite a few of these films start to leak on various pirate sites around Christmas, but this year it remained surprisingly quiet.

In fact, it took until early January before the first pirated screener showed up, a copy of the Denzel Washington movie Fences.

While the slow start remains largely unexplained, it appears that at least some pirate groups have become a bit more cautious with their release strategies. The infamous Hive-CM8, which put out the lion’s share of screeners last year, said it would no longer release any films before their theatrical release, for example.

Cautious or not, this week the screener ball started to get rolling again when five DVD screeners appeared online. ‘Hidden Figures’ and ‘Patriots Day’ were the first two to become available, followed by ‘La La Land,’ ‘Moonlight’ and ‘Arrival’ this weekend.

dvdscr

The copies were released and distributed by various P2P pirate groups, not just a single source. The most popular Arrival copy is tagged by the unknown group “4rrived,” for example, and Hive-CM8 is also back in the game with screener copies of La La Land and Moonlight.

Arrival screener
arrived

A few weeks ago, Hive-CM8 said they were ready to release screeners and a few hours ago they uploaded their first copy of the year.

“Finally first quality release, we do think this is a hot title and we decided to share it with the public,” the group writes in the release note of La La Land.

While some people believe that the group already has access to additional disks, they are still in the market for more material. They hope that insiders with access to screeners are in a sharing mood.

“We are looking for the guys sitting at home with all the 30 disc...

Kim Kardashian West Triples Her Security For First Official Gig Since Paris Robbery "IndyWatch Feed Africa"

Kim Kardashian West has just embarked on her first official gig since being robbed at gun-point in Paris, last year.

The robbers made off with the reality TV star’s 20-carat Lorraine Schwartz engagement ring worth £3.5million and a case of jewellery with a value of £5.24million.

So it's perhaps understandable that Kim Kardashian prepared for Friday's make-up masterclass in Dubai by tripling her security team, no less.

A source said: “Kim feels safe, but that is because she has triple the security that she used to have. Even with this, she still gets nervous in public.”

According to a French prosecutor, the alleged mastermind of the attack has been charged in the latest development.

However, the reality TV star is surely feeling better after it was revealed that French police are making headway with their investigation into the October heist.

Now, a total of 10 people have now been charged - including five accused of a direct role in the robbery, during which Kardashian was bound and gagged, then robbed at gunpoint of jewellery worth almost £9 million.

Boko Haram Terrorists Kill Three Nigerian Soldiers, As Soldiers Repel And Kill 10 "IndyWatch Feed Africa"

Three soldiers attached to the Nigerian Army troops of the 119 Battalion and 133 Special Forces Battalion in the Operation Lafiya Dole were killed on Saturday in the Kukawa Local Government Area of Borno State, after Boko Haram insurgents attacked the military base.

It was learnt that troops also shot dead 10 Boko Haram members with the assistance of the Nigerian Air Force Intelligence and Reconnaissance planes around the shores of the Lake Chad.

It was learnt that the Boko Haram members attacked the troops, but were repelled and in the process, the insurgents were killed and several others injured.

The Director, Army Public Relations, Brig. Gen. Sani Usman, who confirmed the casualty figure, said the troops recovered one Pulemyot Kalashnkova Machine (PKM) Gun, with 67 rounds of ammunition, one AK-47 Riffle with 18 rounds of ammunition, two AK-Rifle top covers and three dane guns with one cartridge.

He said, “Other items recovered included a handheld Motorola radio, an antenna,  a copy of the Holy Quran and Boko Haram terrorists flag. Unfortunately, three soldiers paid the supreme price in the course of the encounter, while 27 soldiers sustained various degrees of injuries. The bodies of the soldiers and those injured have since been evacuated for treatment.

“The troops have continued to trail the terrorists that escaped with gunshot wounds. They have also intensified vigilance and they are making concerted efforts to clear the remnants of the terrorists in various nooks and crannies.”

Meanwhile, the army said it had begun the court-martial process for soldiers found to be sympathisers and collaborators of Boko Haram insurgents in the North-East.

The court-martial process would usually lead to a dismissal.

The army spokesman, Usman, stated this in an interview, adding that the civilians among the collaborators would be tried in a court of law.

He said, “The army is progressing in its responsibility to root out Boko Haram terrorists in the north-eastern region. On the arrest of a Borno State local government chairman and a vice-chairman, investigation is still ongoing.

“Before the arrest of these gentlemen, there had been previous arrests of Boko Haram suppliers and...

“F*ck You Now and F*ck You Forever!”: DL Hughley Slams Trump and His Black Celebrity Supporters [Video] "IndyWatch Feed Nthamerica"

DL Hughley made a video attacking Donald Trump and the black celebrities Trump is using to attempt to deceive Americas into believing he cares about black people.

HipHopWired reports on the one thing all the black people invited to Trump Tower have in common. The are all famous entertainers or athletes. To show how much Trump cares about black (or any non-white) civil rights, he recently insulted civil rights icon John Lewis.

Kanye West, Ray Lewis, Jim Brown and Steve Harvey have all been seen publicly with the president-elect, supposedly meeting with him to discuss ways to benefit the black community. But Hughley isn’t buying it.

“It amazes me that to convince Black people that Donald Trump cares about them, he takes pictures with celebrities,” he said in his social media video. “If Donald Trump cared about Black people, he would not have denigrated the President with those claims of ‘birtherism.’ He would not have stoked fears and racist fears, saying that this man is less than, or not one of us to become President.”

Hughley goes on to point out how Trump prefers black people as entertainers rather then in positions of running important things.

“You know why you have a comedian, rapper and football player out to talk about the concerns of the community,” he later added. “Because that’s the positions you’re used to seeing us in. You’d rather have Black people as comedians, football players and rappers than the President. You’d rather see us run the ball than run the country. ”

He finishes with a resounding: “F*ck you now and f*ck you forever.”

U.S. Federal Judge Makes Example of Race-Baiting Prosecutor by Dropping Hammer (Video) "IndyWatch Feed Nthamerica"

When Freddie Gray was killed in Baltimore in 2015, Baltimore City State’s Attorney Marilyn J. Mosby over-inserted herself into the case.

While it is normal for a prosecutor to be zealous about a case, for Mosby, getting the officers allegedly involved in the death seemed something of a holy crusade.

A prosecutor’s job is to work for the truth, wherever that might lead you.

The officers involved thought Mosby went beyond her job and sued her.

Now a judge has upheld the cops’ right to continue with the lawsuit.

Despite the fact that this is a civil case, expect to hear the race baiters yelling asinine comments like, “She’s innocent until proven guilty…” Hmmmm. First of all, that would only apply in criminal cases, but since when do liberals or race-baiters let facts get in the way of their arguments, right?

Innocent TV Imprisoned Behind Mirror "IndyWatch Feed Tech"

After following along with all the Magic Mirror builds, [Troy Denton] finally caved in and started building one for his girlfriend for Christmas. These popular builds are all pretty much bespoke, and this one is no different.

mirror2His victim TV didn’t have the ability to be switched on and off by the Raspberry Pi using HDMI/CEC, so he came up with an alternative. He got a couple of opto-isolators and soldered one to the on/off button on the TV’s control board. The Pi didn’t know whether it was switching the TV on or off, it just knew it was switching it. To solve this, [Troy Denton] connected another opto-isolator to the TV’s LED, this one the other way around. When the TV is turned on, the Pi now detects it.

The enclosure is fabbed from 2×4 lumber, the mirror is one-way acrylic which runs somewhere in the $75-100 range for this 27-9/16″x15-1/2″ application. The top and bottom rails include lines of holes to encourage airflow to keep things cool. the face plate is picture framing which makes it easy to mount the mirror. An ultrasonic range finder finishes off the build and when someone stands in front of this magic mirror, the Pi senses it and turns the monitor on.

Included in [Troy]’s post are the Python code and shell scripts he wrote as well as a bunch of pictures of the build process. We’ve seen Magic Mirrors...

When You Buy Pet Food, Are You Being Pet Fooled? "IndyWatch Feed Nthamerica"

By Dr. Becker via Healthy Pets Mercola

Today I’m interviewing Kohl Harrington. Kohl is a documentarian, film producer and filmmaker.

He’s put together an amazing project I want to share with all of you. It’s a feature documentary about the pet food industry called “Pet Fooled,” and the inspiration for the film was actually Kohl’s co-producer, Michael Fossat and his itchy dog!

Michael’s groomer suggested his dog was itchy due to his diet, and told him to Google “grain-free pet food.” Michael did some Google searches, and like so many others looking for information on pet diets, he was soon overwhelmed by all the conflicting, confusing information he came across.

Kohl knew nothing about pet food when he took on the project. “I was basically stepping into it clueless,” he says. Growing up, his family had dogs and cats, but they were free-roaming indoor/outdoor pets who mostly hunted their own food.

The film took nearly six years to make, and according to Kohl, the first year or so was spent just trying to define the problem. Most of the information he found online depicted two distinctly different points of view about pet food. According to one view, corn is terrible and raw diets are great.

The opposing view is of course that corn is great and raw diets are terrible. So he had to research both sides of the argument to see which one made more sense.

At the end of their year of research, Kohl and Michael had narrowed their list of pet food subject experts t...

Number of New Patent Cases in the US Fell 25% Last Year, Thanks in Part to the Demise of Software Patent Trolls "IndyWatch Feed Tech"

The legal paper ‘industry’ is walking away, gradually

Moving paperwork

Summary: Litigation and prosecutions that rely on patents (failure to resolve disputes, e.g. by sharing ideas, out of court) is down very sharply, in part because firms that make nothing at all (just threaten and/or litigate) have been sinking after much-needed reform

IN ORDER to understand what goes on in the mysterious (or cryptic) world of patent trolls we often turn to IAM ‘magazine’, which is paid by some trolls to embellish or soften their image. We read IAM ‘magazine’ very critically and try to extract from it some morsels of information. The other day we saw IAM ‘magazine’ conflating patents with “markets” again, as if patents are products up on the shelf or something (to trolls they are). It was also writing about this patent troll which got fed by Stanford University, whose patents were derived from publicly-funded research. To quote some background to this:

WiLAN has stepped up its campaign against the growing personal digital assistant market filing six lawsuits before and after Christmas against a series of big tech companies including Amazon and HTC over patents that underpin Siri, the popular electronic assistant on Apple devices. The most recent case was filed on Tuesday against ZTE in district court in Delaware, bringing the total number of suits that the NPE’s subsidiary IPA Technologies has filed in this campaign to 11.

WiLAN acquired the patents in question in two tranches, including a package of nine grants in May 2016, from SRI International, a non-profit research institute which spun out of Stanford University more than 40 years ago. SRI began developing the technology for a voice-controlled electronic assistant following a grant from the US Defense Advanced Research Project Agency (DARPA), eventually setting up Siri Inc which was spun out as an independent entity in 2007 and was then bought by Apple in 2010.

We wrote about WiLAN many times before (6 years ago we named the pers...

It was a race against time as the paramedics sped to their home, blue lights flashing.

Stephanie, 29, was a much-loved teacher who worked with autistic children.

She and her husband Daniel lived in Missouri City, Texas, and she was a member of the local theatre, singing and acting in community productions.
Daniel, 30, and Stephanie had been married for two years, and while her career blossomed, Daniel remained unemployed.

Their social media pages were flooded with photos of the pair looking happy,

On 11 March 2014 at around 11.30pm, Daniel made the call for an ambulance.

"We are in the bedroom, in what looks like a murder scene," he said.

Daniel was given instructions on how to perform CPR and mouth-to-mouth. It sounded like he was doing everything he could to save his wif...

New Painting by Marius Mason "IndyWatch Feed Enviro"

Lou Sullivan was an organizer, an advocate for civil rights for both the gay and trans communities – and an unabashed commentator when the two communities refused to have each other’s backs and emphasized points of divergence rather than their commonalities and united interests. He became an AIDS activist and educator and contracted the disease before there was much public information about it (and the medical establishment associated it exclusively with a particular identity (only gay, cis men) and not with sexual practices and contact. He fought to get FTM surgery, and is quoted as saying: “I took a certain pleasure in informing the gender clinic that even though their program told me I could not live as a Gay man, it looks like I’m going to die like one.” Lou was the founder of FTM international. No fewer than 12 people reportedly died in an  accident on Oyo/Ogbomoso Road when a commuter bus skidded off the road and plunged into Odo-Oba River yesterday.

According to  eye witnesses, the accident occurred when the bus was trying to avoid a head on collision with an articulated vehicle that lost control and veered off its lane.

Oyo State Sector Commander of the Federal Road Safety Commission (FRSC), Mr Yusuf Salami and the Police Public Relations Officer, Oyo State Command, SP Adekunle Ajisebutu, confirmed the accident.

The Police spokesperson said the bodies of the victims had been taken to Ladoke Akintola University of Technology Teaching Hospital, Ogbomoso.

Ajisebutu said, “The driver of the Mazda bus lost control of the vehicle and plunged into the Odo-Oba River.

Nine adults and three kids died on the spot and their bodies have been deposited at the LAUTECH Teaching Hospital in Ogbomoso.

There were three survivors. The police, with assistance from local drivers, pulled  the bodies and passengers out of the river.

The vehicle is still in the river.”

In his own account, Salami said. “From the report I had, the bus was travelling to Ilorin and as it approached the slope leading to the small bridge over the river, an articulated truck took over the path of the road and, in an effort to avoid collision with it, the bus driver veered off the road and plunged into the river. “

It was difficult pulling the passengers out of the river despite volunteer rescuers that arrived at the scene early. 12 people died immediately.”

The half-brother of Prince Harry’s actress girlfriend has been charged after allegedly holding a gun to his girlfriend’s head following a drunken argument.

Thomas Markle Jr – whose half-sister Meghan has been dating the young Prince for several months – was arrested late on Thursday at the home he shares with his girlfriend of two months, Darlene Blount, in Grants Pass, Oregon.

The 50-year-old, whose father, Thomas Markle Sr, is also Meghan’s dad, was taken into custody after the row which is said to have escalated into violence.

An official police log of the incident, which spelled Meghan’s brother’s name incorrectly, stated: ‘Markel and Blount got into an argument.

‘In his drunken state Markel grabbed a gun and pressed it to Blount’s head in an attempt to get her to leave.’

It added that Blount rang the police after locking herself in the bathroom for safety.

Is America a Defeated Nation? Are There Enough Americans Left with the Capacity to Fight? "IndyWatch Feed Nthamerica"

CSS-Offical-New-Logo2

Are there enough Americans who have the capacity to fight for Trump's reforms left to actually make a difference?

Are there enough Americans who have the capacity to fight for Trump’s reforms left to actually make a difference?

Yes, Donald Trump has been elected against all odds. However, the longest odds that Trump will face have nothing to do with political opponents. The fact of the matter is that he is inheriting an America that is damaged and disfigured beyond all recognition. The America that I know has been raped, pillaged and plundered to the point where the nation is on life-support.

To push back the globalist occupation forces, Trump will need the support and affirmative contributions of good portion of the country. I am not sure that enough of the country is aware enough, emotionally intact enough and believe that our actions can make a difference, enough, to effect positive change. Time will tell on this point, but the early returns are not promising.

In today’s America, only 97 million Americans from a population of nearly 200 million working age citizens, actually have a full-time job. That means that every full-time worker is supporting two people in addition to themselves and they all are not our children.

Trump is assuming control of a government where it so infested with those beholding to absolute communist ideals and the dedication to living under Sharia Law, that his federal government has subversive influences in it from top to bottom.

The country as a whole is so beat down, that I am not sure if this country has the physical capacity to rally around Trump. In psychology, we call this “learned helplessness” where people become conditioned that their indivdual actions don’t make any difference.

The EBT crowd is being conditioned to depend on the government as if it were their third parent. Therefore, we cannot count on 50 million Americans to push for reforms. After all, who is going to work for themselves?

Teenager, Alexis Kelli Manigo, Finally Meets Her Biological Parents After 18 YEARS Of Being Kidnapped (Pic) "IndyWatch Feed Africa"

Alexis Kelli Manigo - the teenager snatched at birth - has finally met her biological parents after 18 YEARS!!

She found out only on Friday her real name is actually Kamiyah Mobley when the woman she had known all her life as her mother, Gloria Williams, was arrested for kidnapping.

It has now emerged that Gloria 'suffered a miscarriage week before the baby was taken'.

Last night she met her real parents Shanara Mobley and Craig Aiken in South Carolina.
All three beamed wide smiles as they posed for a selfie - a family pic 48hrs ago none of them could have ever dreamed of.

Mum Shanara - who last saw her daughter in hospital when she was eight hours old in July 1998 and taken by someone posing as a nurse - looked close to tears.

Meanwhile a fresh theory behind a possible motive emerged as reports emerged Gloria Williams had allegedly suffered a miscarriage approximately a week before the baby was taken from University Medical Center in Jacksonville, Florida.

Craig Aiken said after meeting his daughter for the very first time it had gone very well - and that he'd told her "he loved her".

The overjoyed dad explained "First meeting it was beautiful, it was wonderful. It couldn't have went no better.

"For anybody that has lost hope just keep hope alive.

"Just keep praying just keep fighting. If it can happen to me it can happen to anybody."

"It's a feeling that you can't explain this. It's hard to put it in words right now.

"It's hard to deal with this here right now. Like I said...

Edward Snowden Refuses To Use An iPhone "IndyWatch Feed Nthamerica"

The lawyer for NSA whistleblower Edward Snowden says that his client never uses an iPhone because of fears about its security, Sputnik News reports.

Anatoly Kucherena spoke to news agency RIA Novosti and explained that Snowden is wary of the iPhone because of his knowledge of the NSA’s surveillance tactics.

“Edward never uses an iPhone, he’s got a simple phone,” the lawyer said. “The iPhone has special software that can activate itself without the owner having to press a button and gather information about him, that’s why on security grounds he refused to have this phone.”

Documents leaked by Snowden reveal that iPhone security is an area of interest for the world’s spy agencies. British spy agency GCHQ was recently revealed to have used the UDID system to track iPhone users.

Edward Snowden has been living in Moscow since fleeing the US and leaking internal NSA documents. The former government contractor has made appearances at technology conferences using encrypted video streams and telepresence robots during his time in Russia.

The above video examines Snowden’s claims and finds them to be entirely possible: the NSA can use your phone against you, and they can do this even when it’s switched off. What do you think? Does all this make you feel nostalgic for the glory days of bulky old Nokia handsets, or are you happy to forfeit privacy for new technology in the smartphone age?

Ben Hubbard and Arab media: learning through Zionist eyes "IndyWatch Feed War"

So he wrote this piece about Arab media: nothing original,  just that media are split between two rival camps but:
1) He does not say that Qatari regime and Saudi regime media dominate more than 95% of Arab media, while Iran and Syria control the rest--to varying degrees (for example, he does not mention that Al-Mayadin--which he calls "pro-Iranian" is more pro-Syrian regime as it is not run religiously.  Minor point? Not really if you are writing about the media.
2) He relishes bringing in his pro-Israeli passion: "Once, after militants in Gaza fired a volley of rockets at Israel, I called a spokesman for the Islamic Jihad group to ask who was “responsible” for the attack." Do you think he ever calls Israeli government "after it fires a volley or rockets on Syria or West Bank or Gaza?
3) This is how he defines Hizbullah's mission: "Hezbollah and other groups committed to the destruction of Israel". But Mr. Hubbard does not explain why Hizbullah emerged after the Israeli invasion of 1982, which killed more than 20,000 Lebanese and Palestinians and Syrians--mostly civilians. The date of emergence must have been a pure coincidence.
4) He leaves out from his tally the number of Arabic language propaganda media belonging to Israel, US, EU, and even Israel.
5) As he concludes the article, he talks to two "objective" experts on Arab media. One is a professor of Arabic at Brown.  Fair enough.  The second, however, works for Al-Arabiyya TV, the same channel which he had earlier told us is a propaganda channel for Saudi regime.  Can you imagine if he were to speak to "an expert" on Arab media at...Al-Manar TV?
6) I left the article learning about Zionist reading of Arab media what I knew not before.

Greek Minister Responsible for Derailing Cyprus Talks: Obvious Provocation! "IndyWatch Feed War"

I’ve been trying to keep tabs on the Cyprus talks. It’s not easy, time constraints etc.,
It seems to me that Cyprus is being used to provoke Turkey.
The media here is pushing the usual “bad Turkey” meme.  That’s not exactly the case.
I’ll shed some light on that fact!

With one qualifier- I worry for the people, on that beautiful island, what lengths the UK and Greece will go to to further provoke Turkey. Frightening.
For more background read the relinked post from earlier in the week. That tiny island has an oversized importance in the region

Shaking her tired head

free in the process.
Which surprizes her somewhat,
for she had not been aware
that her rampant feelings
had liquidized into the physical realm.
It’s but a half a mile walk home
through the bottom end of Cheapside.
She cringes and tightens her fists
inside the pockets of her shabby coat
and chuckles bitterly at the word ‘Home’
as it neons mockingly through her mind.
She has only sixpence, three matches,
a pencilled likeness of his shadow
and the clothes she’s stood up in… left.
Eighteen immeasurable months later
and she still cannot drink away

that Bastard memory of him
closing the door upon her for the last time.

For Ghostship Artists Lost In The Fire… "IndyWatch Feed War"

Their photos are periods
Punctuating short stories.
forty, fresh-faced ones,
reflecting everything on the table—
everything possible—back at me:
The promising painter, gifted filmmaker,
Dancer-choreographer, talented sound-tech,
up and coming musician—spring chapters extinguished
by any means necessary—
making space to breathe; creating under capitalism:
basements, abandoned buildings, warehouses, wherever…
Never visualizing fingers of fire playing
Arpeggios in Saturday night skies,
Hurling block chords at heroic
Firefighters in rescue mode—
Never tasting brine of bloodshot eyes—
bitter Margaritas on The Town
gathering, hugging, holding one another up

Oakland’s heart is broken…
de-ja vu—enough heartbreak
for wrapping the lake:
police gunning down the painter;
drunk driver snuffing the dance master;
Blues man crushed in a crosswalk,
Nazis dousing melodies of a young pianist

Oakland
I hear you, love you, feel you—
Please hear me toll
morning’s when Hellfires hit hospitals
leaving blood-splattered walls?
Oakland
I hear you, love you, feel you—
Please hear me toll
Evenings for mangled babies in
Iraq, Afghanistan, Somalia and Syria?
Oakland
I hear you, love you, feel you—
Please hear me toll
Imagining fires worlds away—
charred Syrians, Palestinians, Congolese?

Spinning Sensations "IndyWatch Feed War"

These days were growing shorter,
colder, and dare I say, lonelier
of late,
leading my spirit inward
toward the spaces of solitude
that come with hibernation,
but all that changed
in the flash
of an instant
when you ignited the sun
to light up the sky
and send my heart
spinning through the cycle
of absolution.

One breath of air
to warm my lungs
is a welcome sensation
that chases away
the frigid chill
of winter’s spell,
and now I can tell
all too well
that signs are pointing
sharply
toward happy hour
dancing
throughout the spring.

Terrorists have no heart

They have violence, torture,

they state to preserve but they decimate.
Even the three year old Syrian child
Ailan Kurdy’s dead body
lying on the Turkish seashore
cannot move the stony hearts.
The deadening fear and terror
reflecting in the three year old

Surely, terrorists have no heart.

Until the shelling stops in our hearts "IndyWatch Feed War"

After the torches dim, the sirens ring out
from our bed side keepers.
We muster the strength to stand tall,
and shoulder forth with the pressed ranks.
Our fate amongst the morning roll call.

Through the muds of weekdays,
our focus is aimed to the sunset line,
for that holiday bask relief.
But for now we’ll roost
in the battle front town centre,
with a liquor stride and pleasure bound,
paths lit up by the bowing lily heads
of sodium street light flares.

The DNA of a plague,
when the guts of love are magnified.
We have no longing to fall.
We seek those gracious calls to bed,
wishing for embraced escapes,
bottle eyed or sober,
until the shelling stops in our hearts.

For no Portland stone town centre placed,
regarded once a year.
Our sacrifice is never blessed,
by those saintly blooded hands.
We hope to at least,

to keep a peace,
between our lives and others.
Until hushed tone,
that loaded breath,
when the shelling stops
in our hearts.

But I am a hurricane
Which has brought you much pain
I am such a pisser

Creation Turtle "IndyWatch Feed Nthamerica"

Wiley, the Midget Coyote, and She took a break in their routine to hike in Closed Canyon along the Rio Grande del Norte.

“Wow! This is a neat place!”

“Yup. Canyons, like many land forms, are like books. When you open a book in the middle and read the two flanking pages, you might wonder just how the story led there and where it goes. You might thumb through previous pages, or perhaps those leading to the end. Unless you read all the pages, you are left with pieces of narrative, dialogue and pictures that lie in wait for the whole story. That is what canyons are.

Canyons are slices in the upper layers of the planet we live on. Yet these levels we see were once buried deep in the earth’s crust, flowed from places  far away, or crashed into by other layers and heaving them up. As in Santa Elena Canyon,  there may be bumpy levels of stone made of accumulated bodies of minute sea animals. Or, as in Closed Canyon, they might be hard sleek cliffs of what was once flowing molten rock.

In essence, Wiley, canyons are open books, their steep cliffs pages of time and accumulated activity, far far greater than we can imagine. Layers of differential stone and rock, colors and form, tell us pieces of stories, events long before mammals and humans walked the surface. Remains of living entities that precede us may lie in wait to provide a dialogue enriching the story. Canyons talk to you if you listen.”

Wiley stood still. “Well, I hear things, but not sure what canyons talk like. Do they growl like me? Yip? Grunt like Josephine? This is like my Home where I was a pup.  Sort of.”

“The canyon is a bit different than those you remember, aren’t they?”

“Yup. This one is only big enough for two of us coyotes to run in side-by-side.”

“It’s called a slot canyon, Wiley.”

“Hey, remember I am ‘Coyote‘!”

Sigh. “Yes, Wiley; you are that, too.” She and Wiley sat on a big boulder.

Congresswoman Admits US Is Arming ISIS: Introduces Bill to Stop It "IndyWatch Feed Nthamerica"

Democratic Congresswoman Tulsi Gabbard has broken free of the corporate media’s narrative by accusing the United States of funding and arming terror groups al-Qaeda and ISIS.

America Invents Act Improved Patent Quality, But Right Wingers Threaten to Make It Worse Again "IndyWatch Feed Tech"

Rumours suggest that Donald Trump will add Randall R. Rader to his swamp

Randall R. Rader
Photo from Reuters

Summary: The past half a decade saw gradual improvement in assessment of patents in the United States, but there is a growing threat and pressure from the patent microcosm to restore patent maximalism and chaos

The USPTO has been gradually improving under Michelle Lee, who sought positive reform and is said to be on her way out after Trump’s inauguration. The former Director, David Kappos, is now lobbying (in exchange for money!) to make things worse again. It looks as though Trump is about to blow away any progress with Rader as Director (or similar position). Rader is not only corrupt but is also a software patents proponent.

The following new post by Jason Rantanen links to this new report from the USPTO:

USPTO Releases its 2016 Performance and Accountability Report

I’m pleased to announce that the USPTO has published its Performance and Accountability Report (PAR) for fiscal year (FY) 2016. Intelligence report claims the Kremlin has cracked Telegram service "IndyWatch Feed Tech"

A raw intelligence document published last week claims Russian cyber experts have cracked Telegram messaging service to spy on opponents.

A raw intelligence document published last week contains much information about President Donald Trump and the approach of the Kremlin to the cyber espionage.

According to the report, the Russian Federal Security Service (FSB) offers bribes for back doors into commercial products, it uses to recruit black hat hackers in every way, including blackmail and coercion. The document reports the FSB used the sale of cheap PC game containing malware to compromise the machines. The report also reveals that the Russian Intelligence has cracked the popular Telegram instant messaging service.

The intelligence report has been prepared by a former British agent, he received the information about the hack of the Telegram service by a “cyber operative.”

“His/her understanding was that the FSB now successfully had cracked this communication software and therefore it was no longer secure to use,” reads the document.

Telegram was used by opponents of the government, for this FSB decided to crack it.Telegram is the work of two Russian brothers and billionaires, Nikolai and Pavel Durov. They had previously created Vkontakte – an alternative to Facebook. However, they got in trouble over some Ukrainian personal data issue and fled to Berlin from Russia in 2014.

Telegram leverages on a custom encryption process it made up itself for this reason security experts and privacy advocates raised several times questions about its security.

When it comes to cyberattacks, Russia’s offensive tactics include targeting foreign governments, especially Western governments; penetrating foreign corporations, especially banks; monitoring of the domestic elite; and attacking political opponents inside Russia and abroad.

According to the cyber spy, the Russian government received the support of an IT staffer at Telegram.

Tesla Details How It’ll Charge New Owners to Use Superchargers "IndyWatch Feed Tech"

The free ride is over:

For the past few years, anyone who owned a Tesla could charge it up at one of the company’s Supercharging stations free of charge.

But as we’ve known for a few months now, this all-you-can-eat setup is being phased out. While existing owners will still get to charge up for free, anyone who orders a Tesla after January 15th would get around 1,000 miles worth of charging credit each year then pay for anything beyond that.

But how much would they pay, exactly?

Turns out there’s not any single answer to that question — due to variations in regulations around the world, the pricing varies a bit depending on where you are.

Tesla started outlining how it works in a blog post tonight:

  • In most of the world, Tesla owners will pay per kWh — that is, you’ll be charged for the actual amount of electricity you receive.
  • In select places, however, Tesla will be required (by local regulations) to charge per-minute at the charging station. It’s a bit less accurate, but Tesla says they [are] going to work with regulators in these regions; it’s also a good bit more complicated, with two different charging tiers based on how charged your battery is or whether or not yours is the only Tesla at the charging station.
  • In North America, you’ll pay the same price to charge up throughout any given state or province.
  • Outside of North America, pricing is set on a country-by-country basis.

Federal Government To Round-Up Thousands More Wild Horses In 2017 "IndyWatch Feed Nthamerica"

Credit – Steve Paige / Return to Freedom

Last September, the US Bureau of Land Management (BLM) – the federal agency tasked with managing public lands – came under fire for a widely criticized plan to slaughter 44,000 wild horses, more than 65% of the national wild horse population. Though popular anger over the plan ultimately led to its retraction, the Bureau of Land Management’s misguided approaches to management of public lands, and the wildlife which inhabits them, continue to persist.

Less than a week ago, the BLM rounded up another fifty wild horses, placing them in overcrowded and poorly maintained corrals. Helicopters were used to herd the animals into a holding pen, a controversial method that has resulted in the BLM being taken to court four times due to accusations of animal cruelty. Though the amount of horses targeted in the recent round-up pales in comparison to those once slated for slaughter, the controversy regarding this round-up in particular revolves around the fact that this is just the first of many set to take place this year. The BLM plans to capture 1,575 horses just within January and February of this year alone. These horses will join tens of thousands of other once-wild horses as the BLM – despite being committed to removing the horses from public lands – continues to remain clueless as to what to do with the horses once they have been captured.

Oftentimes such round-ups occur with little visibility as public lands, particularly in the Western United States, are vast and the surrounding areas are often sparsely populated. However, this latest round-up, which took place at the Frisco Horse Management Area in Utah, was observed by a group of “humane observers” working with Return to Freedom, an advocacy group dedicated to protecting the wild horses and their freedom. These volunteers documented the round-ups in order to pressure the government into overhauling its ineffective, costly...

Securities And Exchange Commission Issues Fresh Warning Over MMM "IndyWatch Feed Africa"

The Securities and Exchange Commission has once again warned Nigerians against patronising the Ponzi scheme, MMM stating that its activities were not regulated by the commission or the Central Bank of Nigeria.

This is coming after the Nigeria Police Force said it does not have any directive from the government to arrest operators or participants of the MMM.

It also explained that it would not go after operators or participants in the scheme because no one had complained about being swindled by the programme.

The police stated this on Saturday just as the Securities and Exchange Commission warned Nigerians against patronising the scheme.

The MMM scheme, which was suspended by its operators in December last year, commenced operations on Friday and directed its members to provide ‘help and get help,’ urging them to make use of the cryptocurrency, bitcoin, for their transactions.

The Force Public Relations Officer, Donald Awunah, a Commissioner of Police, told Sunday PUNCH on Saturday that the police had no plans to go after the operators of the scheme, stressing that there were no complaints against them.

''We are not going after the operators because there is no complaint from anyone that he was swindled by them. No one has complained against them, so we have no reason to go after them. Also, there is no directive from the government to arrest the operators or shut them down.'' He explained.

The Corporate Communications Manager, SEC, Naif Abdulsalam, when asked if the commission had made any formal complaint to the security agencies on the activities of the promoters of the scheme, said he would not be able to comment on that.

''I won’t be able to speak on that now.'' He said and declined further comment.

He, however, warned Nigerians against patronising the Ponzi scheme, stating that its activities were not regulated by the commission or the Central Bank of Nigeria.

Abdusalam told one of our correspondents during a telephone interview that the commission would continue to enlighten capital market investors.

France Passes Controversial Bill Making Cameras Mandatory In All Slaughterhouses "IndyWatch Feed Nthamerica"

Credit – NPR/AFP

While many are content to ignore the processes that transform farm animals into neatly-packaged and butchered meats, those who have dared to delve into the practices of industrial meat operations rarely are pleased by what they find as slaughterhouses throughout the world often show remarkable disdain for the animals they “process” while also frequently violating key safety and hygiene laws. In many cases, animals are improperly stunned or killed, sometimes entering scalding tanks or other subsequent steps in the process while still alive.

Other animals are the victims of beatings and other abuse at the hands of slaughterhouse workers, who themselves are often abused by their overseers who demand they work at unsafe speeds and in high-stress environments. In other cases, choosing to put slaughter speed over safety and animal welfare has led to numerous disgusting hygiene violations such as the contamination of meat with feces, meat stored in insect-infested rooms, and the discharge of slaughterhouse waste – namely blood – into public waterways or storm-water drains. Not surprisingly, in the absence of federal regulators or oversight of any kind, these abuses become more and more commonplace as the corporate bottom-line ultimately ends up trumping common sense.

Yet, the burgeoning animal rights movement in France has decided to do something to end these harmful and inhumane practices and have, just recently, achieved a historic political success. This past Friday, the French national assembly passed a bill making cameras mandatory in slaughterhouses throughout the country. It also creates an independent commission to monitor slaughterhouse ethics and offers stiff penalties for animal cruelty violations, including 6 – 12 months of prison time and hefty fines up to 20,000 ($21,000). The measure, set to be implemented in 2018, came as a consequence of widespread public outrage following several appalling and shocking undercover exposés that were released to French media or...

A Playful Gesture. "IndyWatch Feed Nthamerica"

Chris von Keyserling. Photo: / Helen Neafsey.

Christopher von Keyserling, 71, was arrested in Greenwich Town Hall on Wednesday afternoon and charged with fourth-degree sexual assault, police said. He posted $2,500 bond and was released to appear in court on Jan. 25.

The incident began at about noon Dec. 8 when the 57-year-old woman encountered von Keyserling in the hallway of an unnamed town facility, the warrant said.

The two briefly spoke about politics and the woman told him that “it was a new world politically” and he had to educate his fellow politicians, the warrant said. Von Keyserling is a member of Greenwich’s Representative Town Meeting.

He allegedly replied: “I love this new world, I no longer have to be politically correct,” according to the warrant.

She told him that if he was “proud of that I can’t help you,” after which he called her a lazy, bloodsucking union employee, the warrant said.

[…]
As she walked by, he allegedly pinched her in the groin area, according to the warrant. She threatened to punch him if he ever did that again, the warrant said.

She said he “looked back with a really evil look in his eyes and said, ‘it would be your word against mine and nobody will believe you,'” according to the warrant.

[…]

Reached by phone, von Keyserling deferred comment to his attorney, Phil Russell. “It’s a sad situation,” von Keyserling said.

Russell said the incident in question, at the Nathaniel Witherell Home, could not be described as sexual or aggressive in nature. He said the charge stemmed from a “jocular” moment with a woman at a gathering at the town-owned senior facility.

“In almost 30 years of practicing law in this town, I would say Mr. von Keyserling is the one person I would never suspect of having any inappropriate sexual predilections,” Russell said, noting his client is in his 70s.

“There was a playful gesture, in front of witnesses. It was too trivial to be considered anything of significance. To call it a sexual assault is not based in reality,” the lawyer said.

And there we are, in a reality where open sexual assault is no more than a “playful gesture”. I have an idea that...

George Soros Loses Nearly $1 Billion After “Surprise” Election Outcome "IndyWatch Feed Nthamerica"

Credit – Bloomberg

Prior to the recent US Election, almost the entire national establishment – save for a few outliers – predicted a decisive Hillary Clinton win. As news of the actual outcome began to circulate, shock set in for many. Nowhere was that more evident than on Wall Street, where high hopes for a Clinton presidency were palpable. Investors, enlivened by highly inaccurate polling data, bet overwhelmingly on a Clinton triumph, placing large amounts of capital on the line. Though some investors, such as Trump advisor Carl Icahn, made a fortune from the uncertainty that followed the immediate election aftermath, those investors who had heavily invested in Clinton took significant losses. However, some of the greatest losses came as Trump’s win spurred a stock market rally, rejecting pre-election predictions that a Trump victory would send markets into a nose-dive and cause a crash.

It was this rally which brought major losses to one of the country’s most controversial billionaires. On Friday, the Wall Street Journal reported that financier George Soros lost nearly $1 billion following the market surge that followed November’s collection. Citing sources close to the billionaire, Soros has been “cautious about the market going into November and became more bearish immediately after Mr. Trump’s election.” Yet, Soros – despite having been hailed in the past as a financial “prophet” – failed to anticipate the crucial market shift that took place soon after November 8th as expectations that a Trump presidency would boost corporate earnings and the economy, in general, pushed markets higher.

According to the report, Soros stacked up nearly $1 billion in losses. His bearish outlook,...

Popular Nollywood actor, Chiwetalu Agu, has finally responded to the criticism he got from his younger colleague in the movie industry, Gideon Okeke, over his extreme vulgarity in movies.

In a chat with SundayScoop, Agu said: ''Let him leave the censors board to do their job, or does he work with them?

''Anybody can say anything or come to whatever conclusion they please. The viewers would judge whether I use vulgar words in movies or not. People who watch movies are the ultimate judges. I do not even know who Gideon Okeke is; I do not think I have ever heard his name.

''If people like AMAA are talking to me about this, I would know how to react appropriately, but this is an individual I do not even know. He has his own style and I have mine which has won me awards all over the continent and even beyond. This is the first time anyone will be accusing me of vulgarity.

''Others have been hailing me. What we do is satire; we are re-enacting what happens in the society. People I have encountered and those who have called me have been full of praise for me. It will also interest you to know that I am the highest award-winning actor in Africa.

''I have 47 awards to my name and the second person behind me has not even got up to 10 awards. Two years ago, I took two cows to church to celebrate and thank God for giving me the highest number of awards in Africa. Secondly, I have done 727 productions.

''It is a rare record in Africa. I am also the current holder of the Best Veteran Actor award which was given to me in U.S. People like Olu Jacobs and other time-tested Nollywood practitioners were nominated for that same award but I was chosen. My record is the best in all ramifications.

Facebook Is Developing New Mind-Reading Technology "IndyWatch Feed Nthamerica"

Credit: Business Insider

Last year, Facebook created a secretive hardware research division which is currently developing a “brain-computer interface” technology. Recent job postings have been seen where Facebook’s Building 8 group reference a new hardware project that involves “neuroimaging” and “electrophysiological data” in order to create a “communications platform of the future.” The postings are looking for an individual with a Ph.D. in neuroscience who will be able to assist in a project, bringing it from “inception to product” over a period of two years.

Whilst there have been no official confirmations from Facebook,  a 2015 comment from CEO Mark Zuckerberg hints towards the company seeking out help for a project to create a brain-controlled, telepathic communication device. During a Q&A session in June 2015, Zuckerberg said,

“One day, I believe we’ll be able to send full rich thoughts to each other directly using technology. You’ll just be able to think of something and your friends will immediately be able to experience it too if you’d like.”

There were also similar listings which were requesting engineers who were able to develop “novel non-invasive neuroimaging technologies” and create “realistic and immersive haptics experiences.” The idea of neuroimaging is to understand what is going on in a human brain, whilst the use of haptic technology simulates a sense of touch using computers.

In September, a former program manager of applied neuroscience at Johns Hopkins University called Mark Chevrolet, joined the Facebook team as a “technical project lead”. If the idea did become a success, it could be a huge technological breakthrough, as well as putting Facebook, the largest social network, at the forefront of technology and science.

Facebook has recently been seen as rapidly increasing its efforts to pioneer the innovative technology world, taking Google’s Regina Dugan in April 2016 to lead the new Building 8 team. Dugan, who was previously the director of the U.S government’s Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency, or DARPA, before working for Google, was said to be hired by Faceboo...

free-outernet gets LDPC decoding "IndyWatch Feed Tech"

In my previous post I talked about some small updates made by George Hopkins to my free-outernet project. In fact, George has been reverse engineering the ondd binary quite in depth and he has been able to reverse engineer the LDPC code which is used for file FEC. This solves a long-standing issue of free-outernet. Formerly, LDPC decoding was not implemented, so to recover a file successfully all the file blocks had to be received correctly. Now, with LDPC decoding the file can be recovered even if some of the file blocks are lost. Thus, the performance of free-outernet in this aspect should now be the same as the performance of the closed source ondd binary included in the official Outernet receiver. Many thanks to George, as this is a substantial improvement of free-outernet. Here I describe the latest changes made by George in free-outernet.

As we suspected, the LDPC code used for file FEC in Outernet is, essentially, the code described in RFC5170. This RFC describes an LDPC code with a pseudorandomly generated parity-check matrix to be used as an erasure FEC. Generating the matrix pseudorandomly has the advantage that it is possible to use any values of n and k as appropriate.

Recall that an (n,k) linear code over some field F is a k -dimensional subspace ...

Trump Tweets “Car Companies Have To Start Making Things Here Again” "IndyWatch Feed Nthamerica"

By Tyler Durden

President-elect Donald Trump greeted Sunday with a pair of early morning tweets, when shortly after 9am he said that Democrats are “most angry that so many Obama Democrats voted for me.” He followed up by saying that “with all of the jobs I am bringing back to our Nation, that number will only get higher.”

Meanwhile, in response to the latest Trump confrontation with Democratic lawmaker John Lewis, a growing number of Democrats will boycott Trump’s inauguration. So far, at least 19 Democrats have announced they won’t attend the Jan. 20 ceremony.

On Sunday, John Lewis said in an interview with NBC’s Chuck Todd that it would be “almost impossible” for him to work with the President-elect Donald Trump after he takes office. “It’s going to be very hard and very difficult. Almost impossible for me to work with him,” Lewis, a prominent civil rights leader in the 1960s, said.

Todd questioned Lewis about a scenario where Trump called him up and asked to consider working with him. “I would say, ‘Mr. President, Mr. Trump, it’s going to be hard. It’s going to be tough,'” Lewis responded. The remarks in the pre-taped interview came before Trump tweeted Saturday evening and suggested the pair work together in focusing on the nation’s inner cities.

Congressman John Lewis should finally focus on the burning and crime infested inner-cities of the U.S. I can use all the help I can get!

And while the market was closed, and algos were unable to respond to Trump’s latest ad hoc statement, he also added that “car companies and others, if they want to do business in our country, have to start making things here again. WIN!” he added.

The Democrats are most angry that so many Obama Democrats voted for me. With all of the jobs I am bringing back to our Nation, that number..

Welcome Our New Oligarch "IndyWatch Feed Nthamerica"

Jeff Bezos has just purchased the biggest house in Washington – a gorgeous $24 million textile museum designed by the great architect John Russell Pope. Plans are to turn it into a single family home.[1]

shabbyNobody moves to Washington for the weather, the traffic, or the culture; the only plausible reasons could be that he’s also terrified of the Cascadia Subduction Zone or he wants to be closer to the seat of government. At 53, sixteen years into the company’s success, Bezos is probably not really doing much at Amazon.com except figureheading and coming up with goofy ideas like commercializing space. Seeing that Trump was able to win the presidency fairly late in life, perhaps Bezos is thinking there may be a third act in his American life.

The self-aggrandizing story arc of the hugely successful entrepreneur appears to be:

  • Run for Office
  • Build a Spaceship
  • Develop your own brand of cell phone
  • Own an island shaped like a skull

Mark Zuckerberg is apparently quite interested in politics. I wonder if Bezos is looking at Michael Bloomberg and Donald Trump’s wealth-based runs for office and thinking, “I could do better.”  The bar is low, now’s the time to vault over it, isn’t it?

I’m afraid these “welcome our new oligarch” postings may come fast and furious as the wealthy move to Washington, to slice up the power and privilege. Just having a house at the Hamptons or a fancy car doesn’t cut it any more: the way to show you’ve arrived is to buy a political appointment. Or a superpower. What scares me is that Bezos would look so smart, articulate, refined, and sensible next to Trump, authoritarian followers might flock to him. The people who’ve worked for Amazon.com might not be as happy. But now that capitalism has completed its leveraged buy-out of America.com, we’re just haggling about the price.

The new kids on the block will be next door neighbors to the Obamas, and some of the Trump/Kushner clan. At the first scare, you can bet a wall will be built around the neighborhood; maybe Mexico will pay for it.

PTAB — Not Deterred by Courts — Continues to Invalidate a Lot of Software Patents "IndyWatch Feed Tech"

Don’t believe the legal paper ‘industry’ (or the patent microcosm)

Some paperwork

Summary: The Patent Trial and Appeal Board (PTAB) continues to make progress reforming the patent system by eliminating a lot of patents and setting an example (or new standards) for what is patent-eligible after Alice

THE patent microcosm wants us to believe that the Court of Appeals for the Federal Circuit (CAFC) has devalued or stopped what PTAB was doing. They want us to think there’s some kind of feud or conflict — one that they themselves inflame.

Let’s wait and see how many law firms will bother covering the frequent outcomes from cases where CAFC sides with PTAB on issues pertaining to invalidation of patents. Here is one such new case. To quote MIP:

The Federal Circuit has dismissed an appeal of Patent Trial and Appeal Board (PTAB) final written decision in an inter partes review (IPR), arguing that because “Phigenix has not offered sufficient proof establishing that it has suffered an injury in fact, it lacks standing to bring suit in federal court”.

Here is a direct link to the decision [PDF]

PTAB is breaking some records again (based on some criteria), as shown by these latest figures. For the uninitiated, PTAB is slaughtering/squashing software patents more frequently than anything else, including courts. Petitions to PTAB, or IPRs as they are commonly called once processed, are also more reachable/accessible to small businesses that hope to undermine patents which large companies should never have been granted in the first place.

MIP’s PTAB round-up says:

Fixing Bugs In A 37 Year Old Apple II Game "IndyWatch Feed Tech"

Emulators are a great way to reminisce about games and software from yesteryear. [Jorj Bauer] found himself doing just that back in 2002, when they decided to boot up Three Mile Island for the Apple II. Why Morgan Stanley Thinks Stocks “Will Do Worse Under The New Administration” "IndyWatch Feed Nthamerica"

By Tyler Durden

We start our Sunday with some gloomy predictions from Morgan Stanley’s appreciately named “Sunday Start” periodical, in which the bank’s Chief Global cross-asset strategist, Andrew Sheets, explains why the market return under the Obama administration will be a tough act to follow. His argument in a nutshell: “good market environments often involve a shift from economic despair to optimism, and a shift in psychology from ‘fear’ to ‘greed’. Both occurred over the last eight years, producing returns well above the long-run average. Whichever party was next to take the White House, it was going to be a tough act to follow.”

Which is not to say that MS is damning the “Trump market” before he has even stepped into office:

Things, of course, could get better, and we certainly hope that strong returns continue. But investors looking to keep the good times rolling should remember a key thing from the above: Starting points matter, making it logical to start with things that haven’t had a particularly good time over the last eight years.

The bank’s advice: invest elsewhere, especially in places – like Europe and Japan – which have failed to enjoy the US asset bump, because as Morgan Stanley calculates, “non-US equities have underperformed the S&P 500 by 90% over the last eight years. In US dollars, they underperformed by 108%. Again, a better starting point, and a preference for Japan and European equities in 2017 remains a core view.”

From Morgan Stanley’s Andrew Sheets

A Tough Act to Follow

Next week’s inauguration of Donald Trump as US president will mean wall-to-wall discussion of what his policies mean for markets and the legacy of his predecessor. My colleagues will discuss the former in next week’s Start, and I am in no way qualified to comment on the latter. I’d like, instead, to discuss what unites both themes – that returns will likely do worse under the new administration than under the departing one, and where exceptions to this may be.

That statement may seem deeply unfair to an administration that hasn’t even had a chance to pass policy, and...

Protest Groups Plan Massive Disruption Of Trump Inauguration "IndyWatch Feed Nthamerica"

By John Zangas for DC Media Group. January 20, 2017 may go down in history as the most chaotic inauguration ever as groups opposed to the administration of Donald Trump are finalizing plans to disrupt it. The groups form a loose coalition under the banner #DisruptJ20 with plans to blitz all 12 entry checkpoints with blockades, among other civil disobedience actions. The morning trip into the District likely won’t be easy either, since organizers announced plans to block traffic at key points around the city. Plans include training for arrests with instruction in legal rights for non-violent direct actions during the entire day. Washington will in effect transform into a series of chaotic demonstrations along the two-mile route Trump will travel from the U.S. Capitol to the White House after he is sworn in as the 45th President.

Inauguration Protests Commence In Nation’s Capital And Beyond "IndyWatch Feed Nthamerica"

By Deirdre Fulton for Common Dreams. With less than a week until President-elect Donald Trump's inauguration, the resistance has officially begun. People around the country rallied on Saturday to tell the nation: Even in the face of the threats posed by the incoming Trump administration, immigrants and their families are here to stay. "The Trump team has already announced that some of their first acts of brutality will be to lash out against immigrants and Muslims," organizers wrote in a call to action. "Their aim is to deport millions of immigrants, rip millions of families apart, and drive tens of millions of immigrants, refugees, and their families and friends into silence out of fear." "We are committed to standing up for an America which values all people," they continued. "Just one week before Donald Trump’s inauguration we will stand up to say yes to community, love for one another, shared strength, and human dignity. It is time for us to link arms and stand as a line of defense against Donald Trump's promised reign of terror."

The Clinton Foundation Is Shutting Down The Clinton Global Initiative "IndyWatch Feed Nthamerica"

By Gordon

by Tyler Durden Jan 14, 2017

In a “mass layoff” event reported late last week by the Department of Labor, the Clinton Foundation announced it would lay off some 22 employees at the Clinton Global Initiative, which attained notoriety during the John Podesta leaks, when the various details of the fallout between between CGI head Doug Band and Chelsea Clinton were revealed; it also emerged that long-time Bill Clinton friend Band was soliciting donations for Clinton through his PR firm, Teneo in an sordid example of “pay for play” which most of the mainstream media refused to cover, especially after Band emailed Podesta “If this story gets out, we are screwed.”

Filed as mandated by the Department of Labor’s Worker Adjustment and Retraining Notification, or WARN notice, on January 12, the Clinton Foundation’s Veronika Shiroka advised the DOL that as part of a “Plant Layoff” it would layoff 22 workers on April 15, with reason for the dislocation stated as “Discontinuation of the Clinton Global Initiative.” The layoffs are part of the Clinton plan put in motion ahead of the presidential election, to offset a storm of criticism regarding pay-to-play allegations during Clinton’s tenure as secretary of state.

Dissent Is Patriotic, And Powerful Antidote To Propaganda "IndyWatch Feed Nthamerica"

By Bethany Woolman, ACLU of Northern California. Fifty-five years ago this January, the ACLU of Northern California was busy filling orders from across the country for copies of its recently produced film, “Operation Correction.” The film was a response to a piece of Red Scare propaganda, “Operation Abolition,” which was produced by the House Un-American Activities Committee (HUAC) and depicted civil liberties activists in San Francisco as violent “communist agents” bent on destroying the fabric of America. In those days, the federal government was deeply concerned with the political affiliations of ordinary Americans — if those affiliations were left-leaning. But, like many of us, I face a dilemma. We cannot afford to travel to DC or NY on a moment’s notice. We are tied down in a web of obligations and responsibilities — for me, this is the first week of classes, and I can’t abandon the students — so we can only wish we had the freedom to express our anger.

There’s an alternative, though: act locally. The Trump regime is not going to harm only NY and DC and our reputation in foreign countries — it’s going to hit you hard right were you live. The Republicans are already trying to destroy our healthcare, and it’s going to be a blight spreading across the entire nation.

Look to see what’s happening in your community. If nothing is happening, organize something — there will be people willing to join you. Case in point: the Women’s March on Washington is taking next week, and if you can go, you should. But there are also simultaneous Sister Marches being organized everywhere. Look at this map:

Indexing Lunacy "IndyWatch Feed Nthamerica"

By Capitalist Exploits

Median Total Returns of Markets

Market dislocations occur when financial markets, operating under stressful conditions, experience large widespread asset mispricing.

Welcome to this week’s edition of “World Out Of Whack” where every Wednesday we take time out of our day to laugh, poke fun at and present to you absurdity in global financial markets in all its glorious insanity.

While we enjoy a good laugh, the truth is that the first step to protecting ourselves from losses is to protect ourselves from ignorance. Think of the “World Out Of Whack” as your double thick armour plated side impact protection system in a financial world littered with drunk drivers.

Selfishly we also know that the biggest (and often the fastest) returns come from asymmetric market moves. But, in order to identify these moves we must first identify where they live.

Occasionally we find opportunities where we can buy (or sell) assets for mere cents on the dollar – because, after all, we are capitalists.

In this week’s edition of the WOW we’re covering an update to indexing lunacy

In a previous edition of the WOW I wrote about a bubble in dumb money, and in it we looked at the massive drawdowns in capital from hedge funds in favour of “passive investing” via ETFs. Investors have a point. Why pay 2/20 when you can pay as little as 0.09% for an ETF which appears to do pretty much the same thing as a hedgie?

Two reasons that a 10-year old should be able to provide:

  1. If you don’t know what you’re buying, then how the heck are you going to know when to sell?
  2. Buying an ETF that is “low vol” creates a self fulfilling cycle. You’re buying it because of its volatility relative to other ETFs and asset classes. The more you buy it the lower the volatility measure – ergo the more you have to buy it. Genius, until the inevitable happens.

I summed my thoughts up with the following:

Pharmaceutical Giants Caught Supplying Cartels With Tons Of Bulk Ingredients To Produce Meth "IndyWatch Feed Nthamerica"

Prosecutors in Belgium have recently announced that executives with pharmaceutical companies based in the country will be charged with knowingly providing drug cartels with prescription drugs that were used to manufacture methamphetamine.

The companies are accused of providing the Mexican drug kingpin Ezio Figueroa Vazquez with several tons of ephedrine, knowing that it would be used in the production of methamphetamine.

Prosecutors have said that there are seven executives who were charged with crimes, but they have not named these executives or the companies that they represent. However, Reuters uncovered that Sterop and Andacon are two of the three companies involved in the charges.

The companies claim that they had no clue who was buying the drugs, but prosecutors say that they have evidence proving that the executives had full knowledge of what they were involved in. The evidence reportedly includes email and phone surveillance.

“The company made two shipments of two million pills containing pseudoephedrine in 2006. These medicines were freely available then. My clients delivered to a reliable commercial partner and had no idea of the inappropriate use of the drugs,a representative of Andacon said.

Prosecutors spokesman Eric Van Der Sypt said that Ezio Figueroa Vazquez received large shipments of ephedrine from these companies between 2006 and 2011, which cost an estimated 360 million euros.

As we reported last month, according to neuroscientist Dr. Carl Hart, the top big pharma drug Adderall is nearly identical to crystal meth. Not only are these drugs similar, but it also seems that big pharma is the source of the cartel’s needed supply.

Non-Alien Explanation for Tabby's Star Dimming: It Ate a Planet "IndyWatch Feed Tech"

Recently, some astronomers and others have excitedly pointed to Tabby's Star (KIC 8462852) as a possible example of alien megastructures causing a star to dim. A new study favors a more terrestrial explanation - a planetary collision with the star:

A new study set to be published Monday in the Monthly Notices of the Royal Astronomical Society suggests that smart aliens aren't responsible for KIC 8462852's dimming. Instead, the authors suggest, a planetary collision with Tabby's Star is to blame. This crash would explain not only why Tabby's Star has had wild fluctuations in brightness as of late, but why the star has been dimming gradually over the course of the last century.

It seems strange that a spectacular collision between a star and planet would cause a star to become dimmer, explains Ken Shen, a UC Berkeley astronomer and author on the study. But, says Shen, "the star has to eventually go back to being dimmer—the equilibrium state—the state that it was at before the collision."

KC 8462852's more recent and erratic dimming episodes, however, can be explained by a mess of debris moving around the star and absorbing its light, sometimes making it appear significantly dimmer to us Earthlings.

Blockbuster movies I have seen in the past year and cannot remember anything about the plot "IndyWatch Feed Nthamerica"

I must be getting old and senile. There is something wrong with my brain. I have seen all of these movies in the past year, and for the life of me I couldn’t tell you what happened in them.

  • Doctor Strange
  • Star Trek Beyond
  • X-Men Apocalypse
  • Suicide Squad
  • Batman vs. Superman

I know I attended them. I recall blurs of cgi, loud explosions, and chaotic stories in which the fate of the world hung in the balance, but I can’t remember, or care, about a danged thing that happened in them. It’s weird, but there are also little snippets of things associated with them that are surely false memories.

  • Tilda Swinton was an old Asian dude? That can’t be.
  • Sabotage defeats the bad guys. Not the act of sabotage, but the song by the Beasty Boys. With lots of cgi.
Strangely, I can vividly remember the Beasty Boys’ music video of the song, but not what happened in the movie.
  • A confusing ensemble cast re-enacting the plot of The Mummy?
  • A bomb blows the head off a super-character we all cared so little about they didn’t even bother to introduce him.
  • There’s something about Martha? And it disgusted me?

This is also an oddly spotty problem. I can recall everything about Mad Max: Fury Road, for instance.

Either I have to go in for a neurological check-up, or all of Hollywood does. The latter is highly unlikely, right?

After Donald Trump defeated Hillary Clinton and was elected the next president of the United States, all hell broke loose in America. Stars took to the airwaves to weep and rend their hair. Schools actually shut down and offered counseling. Protests blocked roadways. Some of the protests devolved into riots, and organizations funded by George Soros added fuel to those fires.

Violence and hatred spread like a pandemic virus.

Then, things settled down, although the defeated liberals were still unhappy. Cities went back to normal, and anti-Trump vitriol returned mainly to its verbal form, (with a few horrifying exceptions, discussed below.)

But maybe they were just saving their energy for the inauguration on the 20th.

The Child Porn-Pentagon-NSA-CIA Link ‘They’ Don’t Want You To Know "IndyWatch Feed Nthamerica"

Even though there is evidence, the Pentagon, the NSA, and the CIA do not want to investigate and prosecute their highly-disciplined, high-profile, and high-ranking child pornographers. Here’s why…

Some of the top ranking defense personnel, intelligence analysts, and federal law enforcement officers in the United States are pedophiles who access and download child pornography on their work and home computers.

They not only compromise the nation’s security and drive the country into greater humiliation and disgrace; they put themselves at risk of blackmail, bribery, and threats by using credit cards or PayPal to pay for access to overseas pornography websites. Yet, these high-profile pedophiles are neither prosecuted by the United States Department of Defense investigators nor exposed by the mainstream media.

Child Porn in the Pentagon

In 2006, an undercover Internet child pornography investigation, called Operation Flicker, was conducted by the Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE), a federal investigative agency. ICE revealed a list of 5,200 Pentagon employees (with high-level security clearances) suspected of subscribing to child pornography websites, and asked the Pentagon to investigate its employees.

In 2010, The Boston Globe disclosed the link between the Pentagon and child pornography to the public, reporting how the eight-month Pentagon investigation intentionally left 1,700 of its own men off the hook.

In the really bad news department, evangelicals have found themselves in government heaven. Last month, Right Wing Watch reported on the Pendejo-elect’s transition team giving religious right activists, specifically, the members of his evangelical advisory board unprecedented (sb. unpresidented?) input in shaping the new administration. A member of that board, Richard Land, was busy boasting in gleeful surprise about this recently.

Earlier this week, one of the members of that board, Richard Land of the Southern Evangelical Seminary, appeared on the “Point of View” radio program, where he told host Kerby Anderson that he has been shocked by how much influence he and other Religious Right activists have had over the make-up of Trump’s administration.

“Some of my conservative friends and I, we have been pinching ourselves, are we hallucinating or is this actually happening?” Land said. “I know a good number of people on the transition team and I can tell you right now, about half of them, Kerby, think I’m liberal. I mean, these are very conservative people.”

Indeed. Nazis and fascists in general are “ultra-conservative” by typical standards. One could phrase it more precisely as rigidly evil.

Land, a longtime activist and former Southern Baptist Convention official, said that he has “been solicited five times for personnel recommendations” by the Trump administration, which is something that never happened under any previous Republican president. As such, Land said, “this administration is going to have more conservative Christians, Catholic and evangelical, in it than any administration that I’ve been associated with or had contact with, and I’ve been doing this since Reagan.”

For those of us who eschew willful delusions, this is very bad news indeed. “When fascism comes to America, it will be wrapped in the flag and carrying a cross.” I would say they would soon be eyeing suitable candidates for kindling, to set that cross ablaze, but there’s no soon about it. Already happening.

“They Are The Opposition Party” – Trump May Evict Press From The White House "IndyWatch Feed Nthamerica"

By Tyler Durden

The simmering cold, if heating up with every passing day, war between Trump and the press may be about to turn conventional, with the occasional chance of an ICBM.

Just days after calling out CNN fake news during his first press conference of 2017, Esquire reports that according to three senior officials on the transition team, the incoming Trump administration is “seriously considering” a plan to evict the press corps from the White House.

If the plan goes through, one of the officials said, the media will be removed from the cozy confines of the White House press room, where it has worked for several decades. Members of the press will be relocated to the White House Conference Center—near Lafayette Square—or to a space in the Old Executive Office Building, next door to the White House.

Trump’s press secretary tried to cast the possible relocation of the press corps as a matter, in part, of logistics. “There’s been so much interest in covering a President Donald Trump,” he said. “A question is: Is a room that has forty-nine seats adequate? When we had that press conference the other day, we had thousands of requests, and we capped it at four hundred. Is there an opportunity to potentially allow more members of the media to be part of this? That’s something we’re discussing.”

He added that “There has been no decision,” yet but acknowledged that “there has been some discussion about how to do it.”

Other Trump staffers, however, explain that it’s not business, it’s personal. “They are the opposition party,” a senior official was quoted by Esquire. “I want ’em out of the building. We are taking back the press room.”

A brief history of the White House press room:

Reporters have had some sort of workspace at the White House since Teddy Roosevelt’s time, but the current press room is an artifact of the Richard Nixon era, the dawn of the symbiosis of the press and the modern presidency. The “room” is actually a...

African Solutions to African Problems
ZIMBABWE SUNDAY MAIL
Felex Share in Bamako, Mali

President Mugabe joined more than 30 African Heads of State and Government for the 27th France-African Summit which ended here yesterday with issues around peace and security taking centre stage.

The high level summit — held at the Bamako International Conference Centre — witnessed exchanges, discussions and commitments on pertinent issues between the African and French leaders.

Malian President Ibrahim Boubacar Keita and France President Mr Francois Hollande co-chaired the two-day forum.

Summarising some of the resolutions that were set for adoption by the leaders later yesterday, Foreign Affairs Minister Simbarashe Mumbengegwi said: “Basically the document looks at two issues that is peace and security in the African region and partnership and development between Africa and France. “France has been active especially in this part of the world (West Africa), assisting in the security sector where there has been problems of rebels of various kinds.

“This is an area that is hot to Mali and neighbouring countries and a lot of time was devoted to discussing these issues.”

France has been deploying soldiers in Mali since 2013 to help the conflict-ridden nation push back an Islamist insurgency.

This resulted in a peace deal between the Malian Government and Tuareg-led rebels in 2015.

President Mugabe, then African Union chairperson, oversaw the major peace deal, imploring the warring parties to adhere to the accord and “turn their swords into ploughshares”.

On economic development, Minister Mumbengegwi said: “France has already pledged 20 billion euros towards development assistance, some of which will assist French companies willing to invest in Africa.”

France claims to have delivered 11,5 billion euros of development assistance between 2014 and 2016 to Africa and plans to spend about 4 billion per annum for the next two years to reach the 20 billion euros mark pledged at the 2013 France-Africa Summit in Paris.

How Do We Explain the Rise of Anti-globalization?
 Martin Jacques

In two dramatic developments, 2016 saw the end of globalisation as we have known it. The first was Brexit last May, the decision by the UK to leave the European Union after 43 years of membership. It came in the only conceivable way it could happen – a referendum. The country’s elected leaders would never have voted for it, but a referendum might and did. Even now the consequences are largely unknown.

It seems likely that the UK will leave the EU, but the terms of its leaving, and what alternative arrangements it might negotiate instead, are shrouded in uncertainty.

The longer-term impact on the European Union is similarly uncertain. Brexit was undoubtedly the biggest blow the EU has suffered since the former Common Market was founded in 1957.

The expansion of the EU from the initial six members to the present 28, was the most obvious yardstick of its success. Now the process of integration has been put into reverse with Britain’s exit: 28 is becoming 27.

And in the wake of the decision by one of the largest and most influential (albeit reluctant) members to leave, others could follow.

Could the EU unravel? It is not impossible. Certainly the EU has been malfunctioning for a long time: it is no accident that the EU has, with Japan, been the worst economic performer in the developed world since the Western financial crisis.

It is important to recognise that the British vote was not just about Europe.

It went much deeper. It was a protest vote by a large section of the population against how they felt left behind in recent decades: stagnant or falling wages, the increasingly precarious nature of their circumstances and growing inequality.

These processes had been at work since the late 70s, as pro-globalisation policies had combined with the extension of the free market, large-scale immigration and the withdrawal of state provision to create a much harsher environment.

The Western financial crisis in 2007-8 proved a decisive moment in this process.

Real incomes are now on average lower than they were in 2007, they have never fallen before like this over th...

Bondholders Say Mozambique Will Pay as JPMorgan Sees Default
by Paul Wallace  and Matthew Hill
Bloomberg
January 13, 2017, 6:38 AM EST

‘Market’s overreacted in spades,’ says bondholders’ adviser; Mozambique bonds and currency will fall if it defaults: Teneo; Will Mozambique default or not?

JPMorgan Chase & Co. says the African nation is poised to miss payment on a $60 million coupon next week, but a former International Monetary Fund official who’s advising bondholders insists the government has the money.

“It’s in the interest of Mozambique, as well as the bondholders, for the government to pay the coupon,” Charles Blitzer said in an e-mailed response to questions. “I can’t see any good consequences if it doesn’t. The market has overreacted in spades.”

The country’s $727 million of bonds sank to a record after JPMorgan analysts said the government’s rhetoric implies it’s “highly unlikely” to make the payment on Jan. 18.

Mired in a financial crisis after commodity revenue plummeted and the IMF cut aid, Mozambique said in October it would seek to restructure the Eurobond as well as $1.4 billion of government-guaranteed loans to two state companies. Lazard Freres & Co., which represents Mozambique along with law firm White & Case LLP, said the government would have no money left over for debt payments in 2017, including those on the Eurobond.

That sparked a stand-off with bondholders, who formed a creditor committee to argue their case for preferential treatment over other creditors on the grounds that the state guarantees on the loans may be illegal.

“The situation in Mozambique has improved since October,” said Blitzer, who’s advising creditors including Franklin Templeton and AllianceBernstein LP. “In recent months capacity to pay has improved as both the exchange rate and reserves have stabilized and begun to move up.”

The January 2023 bond, which fell to a record 50 cents on the dollar on Jan. 11, was quoted at 54 as of 1:15 p.m. in Maputo, the capital, still down 6 cents from last week. The yield is 26.1 percent.

While the government hoped to finalize a restructuring by Jan. 18, it still hasn’t started forma...

Amazon Page

Revised and with a new foreword from leading reform advocate COL (ret) Douglas MacGregor, PhD, Don Vandergriff revisits his 2002 manifesto for the evolution of the U.S. Army.

From the foreword: “Few books in the history of the U.S. Army have made a more convincing argument for change than Don Vandergriff’s Path to Victory: America’s Army and the Revolution in Human Affairs. It is therefore a great privilege to offer some thoughts on the re-release of this important work.

When Don’s book appeared for the first time in 2002 it was not simply detailed account of the Army’s personnel management system, its promotion policies and unit manning practices. It was also a critical examination of the Army as an institution and its extraordinary resistance to change in the way it identifies, develops and employs human talent.

Most important, the book stipulated recommended changes informed by the ageless understanding that really great military success can be achieved only when leadership, technology and organization work hand in hand.

If leadership were truly recognized inside and outside of the American military as a vital component of national military power, most of Don’s Vandergriff’s recommendations would have been embraced and implemented long ago”.

South African Ombudsman Pushes Bank to Repay Apartheid-era Loan
Barclays-owned Absa says public protector’s report contains ‘inaccuracies’

Busisiwe Mkhwebane, the new South African public protector, says in a preliminary report that a central bank loan was unconstituitional © Reuters

JANUARY 13, 2017
by Joseph Cotterill
Financial Times

Absa, the South African lender owned by Barclays, has been pushed by a government ombudsman to pay back an allegedly corrupt apartheid-era bailout in a sign of the growing political fallout for banks from scandals rocking the ruling African National Congress.

Busisiwe Mkhwebane, the new South African public protector, recommended Absa repay R2.25bn ($166m) after concluding in a preliminary report that central bank lending to a bank it took over 25 years ago was unconstitutional, the Johannesburg-based Mail & Guardian newspaper reported on Friday.

Absa, which said in a statement that the public protector’s preliminary report contained “several factual and legal inaccuracies” and “perpetuates an incorrect view” that it had unduly benefited from the loans, has until next month to respond to the claims.

But the report, which reopens claims over the extent of corruption during white-minority rule that ended in 1994, will raise fears that South Africa’s banks are becoming political targets as a power struggle within the ruling African National Congress intensifies ahead of a contest this year to succeed President Jacob Zuma as leader.

Absa was among a group of South African banks that cut ties last year to companies owned by the Guptas, a business family accused of using its friendship with Mr Zuma and his relatives to influence ministerial appointments and win public contracts.

Standard Bank, the country’s largest lender, said in December that it had come under “unprecedented” political pressure to re-establish ties.

The Guptas and Mr Zuma have denied the allegations. Allies of Mr Zuma’s have countered the claims by accusing “white monopoly capital” of undermining the government.

Mr Zuma’s presidency has been dogged by scandal and alleged corruption. Critics have accused ANC factions of fig...

From One Scam to Another: How Banks in Spain Intend to “Compensate” 1.4 Million Fleeced Homeowners "IndyWatch Feed Europe"

“Poisoned offers” to settle, backed by the government.

Spain’s biggest banks, it seems, will never learn — not even when the highest court of the land, the European Court of Justice (ECJ), rules against their dodgy practices.

The ECJ ruled just before Christmas that Spain’s major banks would have to refund all the billions of euros they had surreptitiously overcharged borrowers as a result of the so-called “mortgage floor-clauses” that were unleashed across the whole home mortgage sector in 2009 [A Nightmare Before Christmas for Spanish Banks].

These floor clauses set a minimum interest rate, typically of between 3% and 4.5%, for variable-rate mortgages, which are a very common mortgage in Spain, even if the Euribor dropped far below that figure. In other words, the mortgages were only really variable in one direction: upwards! While this is not illegal, most banks failed to properly inform their customers that the mortgage contract included such a clause.

The ECJ’s ruling was an emphatic victory for the almost 1.4 million borrowers who had been fleeced out of thousands of euros, many of whom have spent years trying to recoup the funds through Spain’s creaking legal system. Yet even now, the banks, many of which are struggling against a backdrop of negative interest rates and tightening margins, seem loath to part with the cash.

The president of Spain’s sixth biggest bank, Josep Oliu, today called the ruling against the bank’s floor clauses an “attack against the banks,” likening claimants to “roguish swindlers.” His bank, Sabadell, has been accused ofpressuring its mortgage customers to sign a “pact of silence,” by which the customers, knowingly or not, pledge never to speak publicly about the conditions of their mortgage — not even to their lawyers — and in return the bank removes the floor clause from the mortgage, without reimbursing a single cent of what it owes.

Even today, with the law firmly on the borrowers’ side, “poisoned offers” continue to proliferate, warns consumer association Facua-Consumidores en Acción

Twitter Calls for Release of South African Photojournalist Kidnapped in Syria
January 15th, 2017 - 10:44 GMT
Albabwaba

Journalists in Syria are some of the most vulnerable in the world, facing a notably high risk of death and kidnappings. The latest victim of the trade is South African photojournalist, Shiraaz Mohamed, who was working in Syria among local and international journalists to document the conflict.

Mohamed was reportedly kidnapped in Syria five days ago, while travelling from a hospital to the Turkish border. Currently, South African-based relief organisation, Gift of the Givers, is working to ensure Mohamed’s safe release.

According to Eyewitness News, Imtiaz Sooliman from the organization says the kidnappers alleged that they represent several groups inside Syria.

“They asked if he was a foreigner, to which they said yes; they asked if he has a passport, they said yes; they asked if he is Muslim, they said yes. They then blindfolded our two drivers and drove the car with Shiraz to another place about an hour away. At that point they stopped, got out of the car, and told the two drivers ‘you may leave’.”

“Although it’s a very tense situation, we all have to keep calm to try to find out who has him. We don’t understand why he is captured, but we know that the people in Syria respect us and they love us for what we have done there.”

South Africans have taken to Twitter to call for his release, with #ReleaseShiraazMohamed being utilized.

The Comittee to Protect Journalist also joined in on the call to release Mohamed. In a statement on Twitter, CPJ MENA coordinate, Sherif Mansour, condemned the kidnapping:

"[Mohamed's] job is aimed for the world to take notice and stop the suffering of the Syrian people. Those who hold him must release him immediately and ensure his safe return to his family."

Syria is among the deadliest countries for press members to work in. In 2016 alone, 14 journalists were killed there, out of a total of 48 across the world, according to New York-based Committee to Protect Journalists (CPJ).

Mad As Hell "IndyWatch Feed Europe"

By Chris Martenson of PeakProsperity.com

Fair warning, my family just received a 61.5% increase in our healthcare insurance premium of 2017, on top of last year’s 24.8% increase, so I am quite annoyed at the moment.  For my non-US readers, perhaps what follows will interest you as a means of understanding how and why Donald Trump came to be elected President.  I am going to be channeling some of my inner crank today.

If you want to understand why Trump won the recent US presidential election, you can’t overlook the economic data.  If you do, his victory may look mighty confusing, alarming even.  But once you understand the degree to which the average US family and the entire Gen-X and Millennial generations are being completely hosed economically, everything starts to take shape.

As most struggling Americans can tell you, real household income has gone nowhere for more than 20 years:

This multi-decade burden of “running ever faster just to stay in the same place” is what led many US voters to reject Hillary Clinton, the establishment candidate, and instead roll the dice on the iconoclast promising to upend the system.

But if Trump’s plan to “make America great again” means a return to the 1980s and 1990s when median real incomes climbed smartly, he’s not going to be able to pull that rabbit out of the hat, I’m afraid.  None of the conditions in place then are with us today including cheap, abundant energy (remember, oil was $10 a barrel in 1998); not to mention that we were riding the tailwinds produced by all of the gains from the early, explosive stage of the technology and internet revolutions.

Instead, we’re at a stage where the pie is no longer expanding — it’s now a zero-sum game where those with power are using their advantage to continue to increase the size of their slice at the expense of the rest of us. The US now routinely subjects its citizens to racketeering, charging excessive prices that are increasingly cumbersome to avoid. One example among thousands; a Viagra pill that costs less than $1 in India, costs over $38 in the US

South African Photojournalist Shiraaz Mohamed Kidnapped
Shiraaz Mohamed taken by unidentified armed men near Turkey border while on assignment for Gift of the Givers charity.

Shiraaz Mohamed from Johannesburg has been been missing in Syria since 10 January.

A South African photojournalist has been kidnapped in northern Syria while working for aid group Gift of the Givers, the charity said.

Shiraaz Mohamed, from Johannesburg, was taken by unidentified armed men on Tuesday as he tried to leave the country with other members of the group through the border with Turkey.

Imtiaz Sooliman, founder of Gift of the Givers, said Mohamed, 38, was taken to an unknown location after being stopped on the road near the border by the men.

They removed Mohamed from the car at gunpoint after questioning the other members about his identity.

They were then blindfolded and driven to a different location before being told that Mohamed would be questioned due to an unknown "misunderstanding", and would return within two days.

His whereabouts are unknown.

Sooliman said South Africa's Department of International Relations has been informed of the kidnapping, adding that Gift of the Givers has an idea who the perpetrators are but that the information cannot be revealed.

Gift of the Givers is a disaster relief organisation mainly active on the African continent, but it is also well-established in northern Syria where it provides medical services and other aid.

Members of the group are working together on the ground to gain information on Mohamed's location and condition.

Mohamed arrived in Syria on 4 January after planning the trip for months, and photographed in and around the Gift of the Givers hospitals.

He was meant to have left the country on Tuesday, aided by the charity's members.

On 9 January Mohamed texted his family to say that there was a chance he might be detained before leaving the country.

In a statement to Jacaranda FM, a South African radio station, his family said they were "devastated at the news of his disap...

Worth a Look: Don Vandergriff – Raising the Bar – Creating and Nurturing Adaptability to Deal with the Changing Face of War "IndyWatch Feed World"

Amazon Page

Don Vandergriff’s experiences, research and interaction with fellow military professionals suggest that a cultural revolution within the U.S. military is essential if the nation is to successfully adapt and prevail in the emerging 4th Generation Warfare (4GW) or asymmetric warfare threat environment. An Army cultural revolution has three parts:

1. Strategic leaders must change a counterproductive array of long-established beliefs including many laws, regulations and policies, which are based on out-of-date assumptions.

2. Military leaders must drive and sustain a military cultural evolution through effective education and training of the next generation(s) of leaders in a system that is flexible enough to evolve alongside emerging changes in, and lessons from, war, society and technology.

3. Finally, senior leaders must continue to nurture and protect these younger leaders as they go out and put to practice what they have learned, and allow them to evolve.

When the Army begins and sustains an evolutionary process of cultural change based on these or similar principles, it will be on the road to effective reform. This study aims to provide ways to plot and follow the transformational road map for the Army and nation to deal with the complexities of 4th generation warfare.

Visit our website now: http://www.billstill.com - considered by informed insiders’ as THE ultimate resource for fixing the National Debt problem and surviving Economic or Financial Collapse/Crash and attaining the unvarnished truth about Washington and today’s United States Political Climate. Donald Trump's Top Priorities Survey - Part 2 Good evening, I’m still reporting on the economy. XIn the 30-question survey the Trump Transition Team sent out earlier this week, #2 is “Repeal and replace ObamaCare. #2. This is not a top priority of mine. Although ObamaCare is collapsing, if we don’t fix a few other things first, we’ll never need a sophisticated, complicated health care system – because there won’t be a system – or a civilization – to collapse. I wish I didn’t have to give this a “Low Priority” because it’s more important than that, but there is no other choice with this poorly-designed survey. #3. Appoint a strong constitutionalist to the Supreme Court in the mold of the Justice Antonin Scalia. This gets a very high priority in my book. This will restore a conservative 5-4 majority on the high court. Just think, Trump may get to pick 2 or 3 more times over 8 years. That would make a 7-to-2 – or an 8-to-1 conservative majority – and that majority will be able to shape the court for the next 30 or 40 years! And think about the advances in life-extension 30 years from now – so it could be - let’s say at least into 2050. With any luck, we could see a majority among the Supremes into the next century! #4. Sign into law the Senate’s existing bill to build the keystone pipeline. Heck yeah! Take the power of the Arab states away! And although I am a certified part Cherokee, this notion among the Indians of North Dakota that a pipeline on – or even near - their property - is not in accord with the harmony of Mother Nature is crazy talk by a small, but vocal minority of misguided folks. I can remember the same arguments by natives of Northern Alaska who tried to stop the Alaska pipeline. Now every Alaskan gets a nice big, fat check every year from the state which is their share of the rent, and there is not a single Alaskan who would vote against it today. Wise up. #5. And here’s the economics part. Introducing infrastructure package to modernize our country.Sure, spending the nation’s money to revamp our infrastructure is, but not if you have to borrow the money! And there is no question that the money will have to be borrowed because Mr. Trump still struggles over the notion of one basic concept: state money versus bank money! But it doesn’t have to be this way! Why would you go out and take a loan, if you didn’t have to? This is madness! There’s nothing new about state money. Just like bank money, you do have to watch out for inflation. You do have to control the quantity. But at least you have some say in the matter when State money is involved. Look at the poor nations of the European Union that got hoodwinked into the Euro. The Euro is...

Good morning, I’m still reporting on the invasion. Glenn Greenwald on the CIA & Dems vs Trump Good Morning, I’m still reporting on the invasion. Last night on Fox, Tucker Carlson interviewed Glenn Greenwald on his recent story in The Intercept entitled The Deep State Goes to War with President-Elect, Using Unverified Claims, as Democrats Cheer. Greenwald charged that the recent un-sourced allegations about Donald Trump in Russia is the work of the American intelligence community. Greenwald goes on to state that the Democrats are now desperately supporting any negative dirt on Trump – including unsourced commercially contrived – and flat out fake news - designed to weaken Trump as much as possible before he becomes president. The reason is obvious; once inaugurated, Trump’s cabinet appointees will move swiftly to clean out the intelligence community of folks who have been abusing their power by having their security clearances pulled, thus ending their careers all together. And rightly so. Remember this guy, Dan Gabriel. He was the self-proclaimed ex-CIA operative who worked for Sen. Ted Cruz and engineered the Cruz “win” in the Iowa primary by circulating the false rumor on caucus night that Dr. Ben Carson had dropped out of the race and was throwing his support to Cruz? Let’s face it, every major nation does what it can to support candidates that will be supportive of their nation post-election. That’s been a fact of spying throughout all of human history. However, when a nation’s intelligence agents turn on the president – or, in this case, the president-elect - that is not only clearly illegal, ii may be treasonous as well. That’s why Trump must clean house and the bad guys know it. Therefor they are extending their election fight in support of Hillary Clinton – right up to the minute President Trump is sworn in on the steps of the U.S. Capitol one week from today at high noon. Other writers have called this deep state battle royale for power in United States as essentially a coup d’état attempt – a battle that President Donald Trump is destined to win. Incidentally, Glen Greenwald was the primary reporter responsible for publishing the revelations of whistleblower Edward Snowden on the depth of NSA spying on American citizens. [insert] But I think this goes beyond a battle over Syrian policy. The sordid truth is that President Obama appointed several of his intelligence chiefs who were recent converts to a certain group that is responsible for what I have dubbed “the invasion”. Could it be that these intel chiefs are playing...

The at-risk species in Vietnam include the Delacour’s langur (Trachypithecus delacouri), Cat Ba langur (Trachypithecus poliocephalus) and the Tonkin snub-nosed monkey (Rhinopithecus avunculus). The first of those species made headlines last August when Fauna & Flora International (FFI) Vietnam announced the discovery of the world’s second-largest population of Delacour’s langurs in a forest in the country’s far north, numbering around 40 individuals. These regions hug the border with China and are among the most remote, undeveloped parts of the country. That presents major challenges for species conservation, including for the rare primates that live there. There is also the impact of humans to contend with. Local communities in these areas tend to use the forest for resources, including firewood to cook or for livestock grazing. Hoang Van Lam, country program manager at FFI Vietnam, explains that this impacts the primates living nearby. “[The local communities] may not hunt the primates directly, but whatever they do underneath the canopy disturbs the lives of the primates,” Lam said. “This is the main challenge to [the primates].” They…

Nutella manufacturer: Palm oil in product is ‘safe’, despite cancer concerns "IndyWatch Feed Enviro"

Nutella lovers can continue to indulge in the chocolate-hazelnut spread without fear of health risks from the palm oil it contains, according to the product’s manufacturer, Ferrero. In October, the Italian confectioner began running advertisements on television assuring the Italian public of the safety and quality of one of its flagship products and has reportedly also purchased ad space in several newspapers with a similar message. The campaign is an apparent response to warnings by a European food safety organization that several substances found in refined palm oil could be carcinogenic. Much of the controversy around palm oil in recent years has centered on its reported impact on deforestation and greenhouse gas emissions as the world’s most popular vegetable oil. Meanwhile, concerns about how healthy it is have simmered in the background. That is, until tensions boiled over in May 2016 when the European Food Safety Authority published research about contaminants that result from the refining process used for palm oil and other vegetable oils in EFSA Journal. Cannon[/caption] The authors of the study found that heating certain vegetable oils to temperatures of 200 degrees Celsius (392 degrees Fahrenheit) induces the formation of the fatty acid esters of glycidyl (GE), 3-monochloropropanediol and 2-monochloropropanediol. According to the Singapore-based agribusiness giant Wilmar International, the final step of refining palm oil involves heating it to 240 to 260 degrees C (464 to 500 degrees F) to…
