BBC News recycles Iranian terrorism blur BBC Watch

On December 30th a report titled “Israel warns of New Year terror threat in India” appeared on the BBC News website’s Middle East page.terror-threat-india-art

After telling the story described in the headline, the report went on to inform readers that:

“In 2012, the wife of Israeli diplomat stationed in India was critically wounded in a car bomb attack along with her driver and two others.

The incident sparked diplomatic tensions when Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu accused Iran of being behind it – a charge strongly denied by Tehran.”

Well over three years ago, in August 2013, another BBC report included a similar statement concerning that same attack in New Delhi...

Eternal Hostility: a New Year’s Resolution Dissident Voice

This New Year’s Eve, 750 heavy wooden crosses were distributed to a gathering of Chicagoans commemorating the victims of gun violence killed in 2016. Rev. Michael Pfleger and the Faith Community of St. Sabina Parish had issued a call to carry crosses constructed by Greg Zanis. The crosses, uniform in size, presented the name and age and, in many cases, a facial photo of the person killed. Some who carried the crosses were relatives of the people killed. As the group assembled, several sobbed upon finding the crosses that bore the names and photos of their loved ones.

Those carrying the heavy crosses along Chicago’s “Magnificent Mile” of high end shops and restaurants knew that other arms than theirs were aching…aching with longing for loved ones who would never return. In 2016, more people were killed in Chicago by gun violence than in New York City and Los Angeles combined. The number killed represented a 58% increase over the number killed in 2015.  “How could this happen?” – was the question asked on the front page of the Chicago Tribune.

Poverty and racism clearly interact: Blacks and Latinos comprise 56% of the incarcerated population...

Empathy: What Our Dysfunctional World Needs Dissident Voice

Our species is capable of great compassion, kindness and tolerance; it is also capable of cruelty, selfishness and hate. Which of these characteristics dominate depends on another characteristic, namely empathy, defined as “the ability to understand and share the feelings of another”. This sharing of feeling could so easily be switched off if the “other” happens to have a different colour, religion or culture.

It is argued that empathy cannot be taught but could happen through our positive non-judgemental interaction with others. We need to listen and to imagine what it is like to be the other. It is always easier to interact with others if they belong to our group, and hence it is easy to empathise with them as they experience sufferings and hardships through life.

So the first step to be taken towards developing empathy is interaction, through which we can jump the psychological barriers that prevent us from reaching out to others who do not belong to our group. Our humanity is the bond that connects us all on this planet that we share with every living thing on it. Our survival as a species depends on cooperation between nations and individuals.

Exceptionalism applied to a state or to a group who identify themselves by their ethnicity, culture or religion has led to endless wars, genocide and slavery. Exceptionalism is the mechanism by which the “other” is dehumanised and by which our empathy is turned off.

It is a fact of life that a minority in a dominant culture gets judged by the actions of its worst individuals. This, in my view, is due to a lack of interaction between the minority community and the dominant community, the correcting mechanism that tells us that this is a very small minority within the minority group does not function as it should with many people.

So next time you see or hear in the news abou...

Washington Post Published Fake News Story About a Vermont Utility Getting Hacked by Russians

The propaganda coming out of the Washington Post isn’t even creative or convincing. It’s the type of nonsense that one instantly dismisses as the work of a lazy employee of the state. Look at this sensationalist headline posted by Washpo last night.

Russian hackers penetrated U.S. electricity grid through a utility in Vermont, officials say

Ooh, sounds menacing right? By the looks of it, the Russians were quickly working their vodka driven ways towards shutting down all of our lights, Christmas tree included. The only problem with this narrative is that it’s a complete fabrication.

NATO’s Playbook Of Proxy Wars In Middle East ThereAreNoSunglasses

NATO’s Playbook Of Proxy Wars In Middle East

Since the times of the Soviet-Afghan jihad, during the eighties, it has been the fail-safe game plan of the master strategists at NATO to raise money from the oil-rich emirates of Saudi Arabia, Qatar, UAE and Kuwait; then buy billions of dollars’ worth of weapons from the arms’ markets of the Eastern Europe; and then provide those weapons and guerilla warfare training to the disaffected population of the victim country by using the intelligence agencies of the latter’s regional adversaries. Whether it’s Afghanistan, Chechnya, Bosnia, Libya or Syria, the same playbook has been executed to the letter.

More to the point, raising funds for proxy wars from the Gulf Arab States allows the Western executives the freedom to evade congressional scrutiny; the benefit of buying weapons from the unregulated arms’ markets of the Eastern Europe is that such weapons cannot be traced back to the Western capitals; and using jihadist proxies to achieve strategic objectives has the advantage of taking the plea of plausible...

The Democratic Party Line That Could Torch Civil Liberties… and Maybe Help Blow Up the World War Is A Crime .org

By Norman Solomon

Many top Democrats are stoking a political firestorm. We keep hearing that Russia attacked democracy by hacking into Democratic officials’ emails and undermining Hillary Clinton’s campaign. Instead of candidly assessing key factors such as longtime fealty to Wall Street that made it impossible for her to ride a populist wave, the party line has increasingly circled around blaming Vladimir Putin for her defeat.

Of course partisan spinners aren’t big on self-examination, especially if they’re aligned with the Democratic Party’s dominant corporate wing. And the option of continually fingering the Kremlin as the main villain of a 2016 morality play is clearly too juicy for functionary Democrats to pass up -- even if that means scorching civil liberties and escalating a new cold war that could turn radioactively hot.

The Absolutely Essential Distinction: Wars of Aggression are Not Equivalent to Wars of Self-defense Dissident Voice

Courtesy of Mohammad Hamza/
War is an abomination. War is anathema. However, not all forms of war are the same. To understand war, and to assign culpability with clear conscience for the war and its outcomes, it is absolutely critical to differentiate between waging wars of aggression and wars of self-defense. One form of warfare, self-defense, is brought about by the imposition of the other form, war of aggression. Hence, any artificial equivalency is unacceptable between the two forms of war or between/among the warring parties.

Yet, to pay attention to definitions, launching a war of aggression is but terrorism on a massive and indiscriminate scale because there is no technology that can guarantee that weapons only target the fighters defending against aggression. The waging of war causes the death of civilians, including children, women, and the elderly and infirm. Thus, it is a no-brainer to be in solidarity with all those who seek the abolition of war as a means to resolve problems.

Finally, in seeking to abolish the institution of war, I must iterate that war is not just any regular abomination. War is not protesting civilian deaths as even the military of the aggressed nation are victims of war. War is not about the death of children and women as all sectors of the population regardless of age or gender are equally victims. War — especially a war of aggression when initiated by a militarily superior power against a militarily weak country — is the destroyer of societies; families; generations; emotional ties among people; history; the environment; economic structures and infrastructures, as well as the capital spent to build them; and reconstruction costs that do not give a damn about the human cost of war. War is the maker of refugees. When the United States invaded Iraq, millions of refugees were forced to leave Iraq; yet not even one single American left the United States because of that invasion. The current war waged against Syria has created 4.8 million external refugees and 6.6 million internal refugees.1

Jan Oberg, co-founder of the Transnational Foundation for Peace and Future Research, also feels revulsion for war. While he is adept at recognizing propaganda and disinformation (Oberg readily recognizes the propagandic ploy of the s...

‘Analysis’ from BBC R4: Hizballah doesn’t threaten Israeli civilians BBC Watch

Even as the US Secretary of State was still speaking on the topic of the two-state solution on December 28th, the BBC Radio 4 programme ‘PM’ was already offering coverage of that long speech by John

Included in that coverage was analysis (from 05:07 here) from Ian Bremmer of ‘Eurasia Group’ – parts of which might come as something of a surprise to anyone who has been following the news from Israel in recent years – including the thousands of missile attacks from the Gaza Strip and the terror attacks against Israelis which have taken over forty lives and wounded hundreds in the past 15 months.

“Well, in the long-term Kerry’s certainly correct that an imposed one-state solution is no way to build peace between the Israelis and the Palestinians. But certainly in the short and medium term – and this has been going on for more than just the Obama administrations – the amount of stability that the Israelis presently enjoy with a one-state solution – even if it’s not final – is perfectly fine for them. I mean, even the Israeli Left no longer talks much about a two-state solution because there’s just not much of a Palestinian threat against Israelis these days. They d...

Syria’s War Was Only Ever the Beginning

neo new eastern outlook

With the liberation of the city of Aleppo in northern Syria, it appears that the Syrian government in Damascus is on its way to ending the highly destructive conflict now ongoing for nearly 6 years.

But to assume the Syrian conflict is on the verge of resolution is to assume the Syrian conflict was fought in a geopolitical vacuum, disconnected from regional, even global agendas.

In fact, the proxy war the West waged on Syria was considered for the years before it began, during its planning and preparation stages, as only a prerequisite for war with Iran and a greater global conflict to prevent the reemergence of Russia and the rise of China.

Focus: Russian Hacking - Jan 2, 2017 War Is A Crime .org

According to both private cybersecurity firms and US intelligence agencies, there is no doubt that Russian group "Fancy Bear" (also known as Sofacy, APT 28, Sednit, Tsar Team or other names) hacked the Democratic party. Is Fancy Bear an agent of the Russian military intelligence service? I believe it is. Fancy Bear is well known by the cybersecurity experts and has been studied in the past at length. Since 2007, targets of Fancy Bear’s hacking have been Georgia and the Caucasus, Eastern European governments and militaries, Ukraine, US, Germany, UK, NATO, OSCE, Soros, etc. Lately it hacked the World Anti-Doping Agency in response to the WADA's recommendation to ban all Russian athletes from the Olympic games in Brazil. While China hacking conducts intellectual property theft, cybersecurity firm FireEye found that Fancy Bear 'has been targeting privileged information related to governments, militaries and security organizations that would likely benefit the Russian government.’ Another cybersecurity firm CrowdStrike states that Fancy Bear’s profile "closely mirrors the strategic interests of the Russian government."

During the years Fancy Bear’ hacking activity has grown in size, sophistication and scope. FireEye reports that Fancy Bear has continuously evolved its malware "using flexible and lasting platforms indicative of plans for long-term use and sophisticated coding practices;" it also uses obfuscation techniques to hide or disguise the code's true purpose and to prevent it from being detected. CrowdStrike has shown that Fancy Bear has the ability to run multiple and extensive intrusion operations concurrently; while it was hacking US political organizations was at the same time involved targeting European military organizations. CrowdStrike on Fancy Bear and another Russian hacking group "Cozy Bear": "Their tradecraft is superb, operational security second to none and the extensive usage of 'living-off-the-land' techniques enables them to easily bypass many security solutions they encounter. In particular, we identified advanced methods consistent with nation-state level capabilities including deliberate targeting and 'access management' tradecraft — both groups were constantly going back into the environment to change out their implants, modify persistent methods, move to new Command & Control channels and perform other tasks to try to stay ahead of being detected." This is not lone wolf or kiddie stuf...

California Cops Come Close to Killing Sleeping Man with Gun-Shaped Cell Phone Case PINAC News

After coming close to killing a man over a cell phone case shaped like a gun, police in California are warning citizens to think twice about using such devices.

After all, the next time could end “tragically,” as the Alhambra Police Department noted.

And we could have told you that knowing how cops will confuse anything for a gun, whether it be a smartphone with no gun-shaped attachment, a wallet or just a hand with an index finger extended, which have all gotten people killed by police.

The latest incident took place Thursday after after a man was found sleeping in his car in the parking lot of a grocery store, which sent alarm waves through the local police and fire departments.

The Alhambra Fire Department was the first to respond, but then they noticed the gun-shaped cell phone holder next to the sleeping man, which is when they called police.

The Alhambra Police Department showed up, spotted the case next to the sleeping man, then called the Special Enforcement Bureau of the Los Angeles Sheriff’s Department, which is what they call their SWAT team.

Almost four hours after the fire department responded, the man apparently woke up and “surrendered,” even though he had broken no law.

This is how the Alhambra Police Department described it on its Facebook page:

Today (12/30/16), at 10:52 am, the Alhambra Police Department received a call from the Alhambra Fire Department stating they responded to the parking lot of Albertson store (Commonwealth Avenue/Fremont Avenue) regarding a possible medical issue of a subject in a vehicle. Upon the Alhambra Fire Department’s arrival, they noticed a male subject possibly sleeping or unconscious in the driver’s seat of a blue Suburban Vehicle and what appeared to be a gun next to him. At that point, they called the Alhambra Police Department and we responded. Once officers arrived, they looked through the vehicle’s window and saw a male subject sleeping or unconscious with what appeared to be a gun on his lap next to his hand.
We contacted the Special Enforcement Bureau of the Los Angeles County Sheriff Department for assistance. They responded and took over the investigation. At approximately 2:35 pm the subject surrender and came out of his vehicle with his hands up. The situation ended peaceful and it was determined what appeared to be a gun was actually a cellphone case of a gun. The male subject did not require any medical attention, was not arrested, and was sleeping in his vehicle.

The businesses are back to normal in the area and we would like to thank the citizens for their understanding during the investigation. We would also like to thank the Special Enforcement Bureau of the Los Angeles County Sheriff Department, Monterey Park Police Department, South Pasadena Police Department, and San Marino Police Depart...

ISIS responsible for Istanbul Night Club Attack? About that Santa Meme.... Penny for your thoughts

I  really want to address the whole Santa meme regarding this club attack-

After having looked high and low, I cannot find one image of this perp dressed as Santa Claus.
A dark  hat/jacket and pants, carrying a knapsack does not make a Santa Claus

Google image search  for Santa Claus

Can a reader please provide me an image of a red attired, fake white bearded perp at the Istanbul club? - Two embedded videos in the previous post show nothing remotely like a Santa Claus as most commonly known and identified.

Until I can verify an image of a Santa Claus gunman- I'm not taking the reports at face value.

HOWEVER... The claimed Santa sighting may serve a couple of purposes-

One Purpose?  May be to tie the shooter to some Turkish security/law enforcement who may have been attired as Santa Claus that night. There were a few claims to that affect.

Secondly... Santa is the bearer of gifts- The meme of a Santa attacker may have been transmitted as a message to interested participants- higher ups- the parties truly behind this attack- the ‘gift’ had been delivered.

From the previous post:

FAST sponsored a lesson plan for Grades 6 to 8 called “Choose Your Voice: Antisemitism in Canada”. Over 2.4 million students in 19,000 schools have been through the FAST program. A year ago FAST added Voices into Action, an anti-racism lesson for Canadian high schoolers that devotes a third of its plan to the Nazi Holocaust in Europe.

Unfortunately, FAST does not appear to be an example of business leaders struggling for social justice. Rather, it’s part of what Norman Finkelstein dubbed the “Holocaust Industry”, which exploits historical Jewish suffering to deflect criticism of Israeli expansionism.

In its “What We Stand For” FAST calls on Canadians “to speak out against all forms of bigotry, racism and hatred”, yet the Compers’ were honoured guests at a 2009 Jewish National Fund fundraiser in Toronto. Owner of 13 per cent of Israel’s land, the JNF discriminates against Palestinian–Arab citizens who make up a fifth of Israel’s population. (What would we think of anti-racist activists who attend KKK meetings?)

In a 2006 article titled “BMO head slams one-sided Israel critics the Canadian Jewish News reported on FAST’s Quebec launch: “Singling out Israel for blame in the Middle East conflict, even by those of good faith, is fanning anti-Semitism, Bank of Montreal president Tony Comper says. It may not be the intent, but the effect of condemning Israel alone is providing justification for hatred of Jews in Canada and internationally, Comper warned more than 400 business executives. … In underscoring the serious threat of anti-Semitism worldwide, Comper suggested that ‘a second Holocaust’ is possible if Iran acquires nuclear arms and attacks Israel.” In his speech Comper cited CUPE Ontario and the Toronto Conference of the United Church of Canada’s support for...

The British role in Palestine was a case of ‘hit & run’: The Balfour Declaration, in which the British gave away other people’s land, was the hit; and thirty years later, Resolution 181—Partition—was the run, leaving the Palestinians abandoned in a ditch. Zionism was of course among the incarnations of racial-nationalism that evolved in the late nineteenth century. Bigots were Zionism’s avid fans—it was the anti-Semites who championed the Zionists." That proved not to be the case and now they're telling us another big lie – that Assad can’t control the rest of the country. Well I’ve got news for them – he’s well on the way to doing so." Mr Ford said that when the conflict started the UK should have either "put everything, including our own forces on to the battlefield, or if in our judgement – as it would have been my judgement – that was not realistic, refrain from encouraging the opposition to mount a doomed campaign." He claimed the UK’s tough talk on one hand, followed by little action to back rebels in Syria on the other had preceded a rebellion that had "only led to hundreds of thousands of civilians being maimed and killed"."

Top Climate Stories To Watch In 2017 PopularResistance.Org

By Mike Gaworecki for Mongabay - 2016 was something of a mixed bag for the global climate. On the one hand, renewable energy use has never been higher — but on the other hand, 2016 brought with it news of record fossil fuel consumption, as well. Meanwhile, the Paris Climate Agreement went into force on November 4, far sooner than anyone ever expected, signaling a new era of international climate action — but just a few days later, the U.S., the second-largest emitter in the world, elected a new president who has called global warming a hoax and pledged to withdraw the U.S. from the Paris Climate Agreement as soon as possible. Needless to say, 2017 is likely to be a pivotal year in the fight to halt global climate change and all of its impacts. Here, in no particular order, are some of the top stories to keep an eye on in the new year.

Nine Florida Cops Swarm Man for Recording Cops Running Stop Sign in Front of Police Station Where Wife Works PINAC News

South Florida cops detained a man after he recorded several officers running a stop sign outside the police station where his wife works last month.

The Delray Beach cops never admitted they detained him for recording them blatantly violating traffic laws.

But a recording of the call to dispatch reveals a department employee placed the call to report a “suspicious man” she observed backed into a parking spot “pointing a Sony camera where police vehicles are exiting.”

The call alarmed the cops enough to send several officers to stand by while a couple of them interrogated the man, who spoke to PINAC but wishes to remain anonymous.

When the man mentioned his right to be free from search or questioning without being suspected of a crime, Delray Beach cops said they had the right to detain him because of “weird times nowadays.”

“It’s just weird times nowadays, sir. We just wanna I–make sure you’re doing things right,” one cop said.

“Do you suspect me of [committing] a crime?” he responded.

“Your suspicious behavior,” Lieutenant Vinnie Gray says.

“Is that a crime?” the man asks calmly.

“The video camera is right on the dash at the level of the dash where the lens would be to see these vehicles exiting,” the department employee can be heard explaining to the dispatcher.

“I mean, you know, you can video tape the PD all you want, but that’s just weird.”

“Of course it’s weird,” the dispatcher snapped.

The police employee reported to the dispatcher she couldn’t see the man very well, and couldn’t really determine what the man was doing that would warrant contact from police, because of the glare on his windshield.

Gray, along with eight other cops, eventually arrived to deal with their perceived threat.

“What’s going on?” Gray asks in a friendly voice.

“I don’t know,” the man shrugs. “I’m sitting here waiting for my wife, OK? I’m filming four or five or six cop cars blow that stop sign,” he says pointing to the sign.

“And I think it’s funny. You know, that you guys enforce the law…. So, I’m just sitting here and all of a sudden, this guy rolls up like a SWAT team or something, like I’m doing something wrong here. All I’m doing is filming you guys run the stop sign as I’m waiting for my wife come out.”

“Does that seem like suspicious behavior to you?”

Lt. Gray leans his head into the driver’s side window and asks the man to roll down his window.

“No. I’d prefer not to, with all due respect. OK?”

“You’re waiting for your wife, getting your wife involved, if you would have just let officers know why youR...

As Resistance Grows, Trump’s Deportation Plans Unravel PopularResistance.Org

By Lauren McCauley for Common Dreams - Cost, impossible logistics, political opposition, and community resistance could spell the end of the president-elect's anti-immigrant scheme. In fact, research by the Economic Policy Institute shows all workers today are making less than they would if union density was at its 1979 level. Michigan Jailer Fired for Ignoring Suicidal Inmate’s Pleas for Help as She Hung Herself Reinstated with Back Pay PINAC News

Before she strapped a bra around her neck and tried to hang herself from a prison shower head in Women’s Huron Valley Correctional Facility in Michigan, Janika Edmond asked prison guards for a suicide prevention vest.

But state corrections officers Kory Moore and Dianna Callahan blew her off, mocking her instead, talking amongst themselves about a bet they had placed on whether or not the inmate would ask for the vest.

Callahan had won the bet, so she started taunting Moore about how she now owed her a Subway sandwich.

Meanwhile, the weight of Edmond’s body on the shower head caused the bra to break, resulting in the 25-year-old mentally ill inmate falling to the floor and landing on the back of her head.

Several minutes went by before the guards noticed the inmate was lying in a pool of blood dying, the inmate’s choking sounds recorded on a prison video feed.

She was eventually rushed to the hospital but was taken off life support four days later after it was determined she was brain dead.

The incident took placed on November 2, 2015, resulting in both guards placed on administrative leave before they were fired four months later.

It was only then, after reading a local news report about the terminations, that Michigan State Police became aware of Edmond’s death, launching a criminal investigation into the matter.

That investigation led to involuntary manslaughter and willful neglect of duty charges against Callahan last month and she is now facing 15 years in prison, according to

But Moore was not only cleared of any criminal charges, she managed to win her job back through an arbitration process with the help of her union.

She will also receive back pay for the nine months she did not work since she was fired, reported last week.

And she will return to her supervisory position as a resident unit manager and prison counselor, a position she received in August 2015, less than three months before Edmond’s death.

In fact, she was Callahan’s supervisor the day they mocked Edmond for asking for a suicide prevention vest.

According to the police complaint, Callahan caused Edmond’s death through negligent omission and  by failing to “fulfill her legal duty to timely and properly respond to a suicidal statement by an inmate.”

Just 20 minutes before she was found unconscious on the prison shower floor, Edmonton told jailers she “should kill herself” and requested a suicide prevention vest.

Her request for the vest was denied.
