Whale, Ashmole Bestiary.

Whale, Ashmole Bestiary.

This is an incredibly long entry, with a great deal of misinformation.

Text Translation:

Here begins the account of fish. Fish, pisces, get their name, like cattle, pecus, from the word for grazing, namely, pascere. They are called reptiles because, when they swim, they have the appearance and manner of crawling. Although they can dive deep, nevertheless they crawl as they swim. On this subject David says: So is this great and wide sea, wherein are things creeping innumerable (Psalms, 104: 25)

[Of the whale] [They suffer in the same way, those who are unbelievers and know nothing of the Devils cunning, who place their hope in him,] bind themselves to do his work, together they will be plunged with him into the fires of Gehenna. The nature of this animal is such that when it feeds, it opens its mouth and breathes out from it a kind of sweet-smelling odour, so that when smaller fish scent it, they gather in its mouth. When the whale feels that its mouth is full, it closes it suddenly and swallows the fish. They suffer in the same way, those who are of limited faith, who succumb to the food of desires and enticements, they are suddenly devoured by the Devil as if they had been overwhelmed by certain scents Again of the whale Whales are beasts of huge size, so called because of their habit of drawing in and spouting out water; for they make waves higher than other sea creatures; the Greek word balenim [balein] means to emit. Japan Under Nearly Constant Military Threat from Russia and China "IndyWatch Feed War"

MILITARY threats have been made by China and Russia towards Japan by sending aircraft and naval vessels into Japanese territory as the dispute over the South China Sea rages on.

PUBLISHED: 01:38, Sun, Jan 28, 2018 | UPDATED: 12:34, Sun, Jan 28, 2018
.
Tensions have been rising as China has become more aggressive in its territorial claims in the South China Sea.

The Communist State has disputes with five separate countries over several islands and waters in the South China Sea that they claim to control.

At the heart of the feud between China and Japan is a dispute over the Senkaku Islands.

The Senkaku Islands are a group of uninhabited islands under Japanese control, but that are claimed by China.

Beijing calls the land the Diaoyu Islands.

Richard Weitz, a senior fellow and the director of the Center for Political-Military Analysis at the Hudson Institute, has explained that China wants to enforce their claims by ensuring foreign planes acknowledge its capability to control airspace and the waters of contested territory.

He also said that Russia is motivated by monitoring US military activity in the country.

Russias conflict with Japan also concerns the Kuril Islands.

The Kuril Islands were historically part of Japan and were taken by the USSR in the final days of the World War II.

Zack Cooper, a senior fellow for the Centre for Strategic and International Studies, has claimed that China are being prevented from being more bold by the the US-Japan alliance and the superiority of the Japan Self-Defence Forces (JSDF).

Like-minded minds think alike "IndyWatch Feed Europe"

This morning's Sunday on Radio 4 asked the question, 'Are we becoming more racist and intolerant?' and interviewed a leftist lecturer and a Guardian journalist, both from ethnic minorities.

They didn't disagree, and I bet you can guess what they said.

Trump and European "ethno-nationalism" (as presenter William Crawley put it) weren't seen as helping.

The Guardian journalist sounded nice and jolly, especially when saying that non-white people can say that they want to date and marry within their own ethnic group but that white people can't. The leftist professor was much more strait-laced and ideological.

I'm so glad I gave over seven minutes of my life to listening to that.

Senate Investigators Google Their Way to $766 Million of Fentanyl "IndyWatch Feed Tech"

With Google, Bitcoins, and USPS, Feds realize it's stupid easy to buy fentanyl

A congressional report released Wednesday lays out just how easy it is for Americans to buy the deadly opioid fentanyl from Chinese suppliers online and have it shipped to them via the government's own postal service. The report also lays out just how difficult the practice will be to stop.

After Googling phrases such as "fentanyl for sale," Senate investigators followed up with just six of the online sellers they found. This eventually led them to 500 financial transaction records, accounting for about $766 million worth of fentanyl entering the country and at least seven traceable overdose deaths.

[...] "Thanks to our bipartisan investigation, we now know the depth to which drug traffickers exploit our mail system to ship fentanyl and other synthetic drugs into the United States," Republican Senator Rob Portman of Ohio said in a statement. "The federal government can, and must, act to shore up our defenses against this deadly drug and help save lives."

Afrin assault to cause paradigm shifts in Turkeys foreign affairs "IndyWatch Feed War"

By YASAR YAKIS | Published  Monday 29 January 2018

Turkeys military operation in Afrin is likely to change several paradigms in the region and beyond. One of them will be the test for NATO solidarity, which is enshrined in Article 5 of the North Atlantic Treaty. This states that an armed attack against one of the member countries shall be considered as an attack against all of them, and they shall take such action as they deem necessary to restore peace. Member countries may fulfil their treaty obligation stemming from this article by issuing a strongly worded statement condemning the attack.

.
Past experience demonstrates that NATO solidarity with Turkey is less than a contractual obligation for many allied countries. In 1964, then-US President Lyndon B. Johnson sent a letter to then-Turkish Prime Minister Ismet Inonu saying that, if the Soviet Union attacks Turkey, its NATO allies may not come to their aid. Then, in 1974, the US imposed an arms embargo on Turkey because of the latters military operation in Cyprus. And, in 2015, NATO countries deployed patriot missiles in Turkey to protect it from air attacks, but these missiles were withdrawn before the threat had disappeared.

.
Lately in the US, several commentators have said Turkey has become a liability for NATO. And Germany has announced that any decision on the modernization of the German-manufactured Leopard tanks in Turkeys inventory and the sale of new ones are postponed until the formation of the countrys new government. These attitudes are not compatible with the alliance solidarity, but solidarity is a behavior that countries adjust according to the zeitgeist, or spirit of the times. Therefore solidarity with Turkey will be shaped according to the mood of the post-Afrin environment.

.
The second paradigm shift may be in Turkeys relations with Russia. The questioning, within NATO, of the solidarity vis-a-vis Turkey is connected, in one way or another, to Ankaras relations with Russia. It is still unclear how the Afrin operation will affect Turkey-Russia relations. It may go both ways. A successful operation would promote the governments image in Turkey, while failure may cause irreparable damage to its chances in the forthcoming 2019 elections.

.
Turkish-Russian relations will evolve according to their own dynamics but, if the mutual confidence between Turkey and the US cannot be restored, Recep Tayyip Erdogan will be in need of better relations with Russia. On the other hand, Turkey should not be surprised if Russia or the US does not meet its expectations because of their respective interests in Syria.

.
The third paradigm change may be in Turkey-...

Googles AI-powered Clips camera is now on sale "IndyWatch Feed Tech"

Clips camera now available for pre-order in the Google Play Store

Back in October 2017 at the Made by Google hardware event, Google had announced an AI (artificial intelligence) powered camera called Clips that captures images and video on your behalf. The tech giant has now quietly put the Clips camera on sale.

This year, people will take about a trillion photos, and for many of us, that means a digital photo gallery filled with images that we wont actually look at, Google writes. This is especially true with new parents, whose day-to-day experience is full of firsts.

During moments that can feel precious and fleeting, users are drawn to their smartphone cameras in hopes of capturing and preserving memories for their future selves. As a result, they often end up viewing the world through a tiny screen instead of interacting using all their senses.

It measures just 2.0 x 2.0 x 0.8 and weighs a mere 1.5 ounces. The lightweight, autonomous, hands-free camera that is tiny is size comes with Moment IQ, a machine learning algorithm that lets it figure out whos important and the right time to capture images based on expressions, lighting and framing.

Google Clips is smart enough to recognize great expressions, lighting and framing. So the camera captures beautiful, spontaneous images. And it gets smarter over time, Googles website reads.

Google Clips camera has a low-light mode and automatically adjusts its resolution according to the situation. Further, the camera comes with a 130-degree lens to fit more of the scene in the frame and is protected with Gorilla Glass. It can capture up to 15 frames per second and later use machine intelligence to automatically select the best shots from that burst mode.

The square-shaped camera, which measures about 2-inch, comes with a 12-megapixel sensor and automatically shoots images and small video loops. There is also a manual shutter button and power can be controlled via twisting the lens. The most interesting part is that the camera comes with a clip stand, so that it can stand on its own. On the other hand, the camera can stand upright on its flat base even without the clip.

The camera comes with 16GB of internal storage, and a battery which can function for up to three hours of capture with a Wi-Fi Direct for transferring photos to the smartphone. Currently, the apps smartphone compatibility is limited and is compatible with the Google Pixel, the Samsung Galaxy S7 and S8 running on Android 7.0 or greater, as well as iPhones 6 and up running on iOS 10 and greater. The device includes Bluetooth LE and a USB-C port, wherein the latter is used to recharge the camera.

What is interesting is that Google starts its p...

Antifa, a Documentary Film

Since the election of Donald Trump, acts of racist violence have proliferated across the United States. Racists and misogynists feel emboldened to express and act on their views. White nationalist groups and resurgent traditional white supremacist groups such as the Ku Klux Klan have used Trumps victory to gain new recruits. All that stands in their way are the groups of anarchists, communists, and socialists who have taken it upon themselves to prevent fascism from becoming a powerful political force in the United States. This film tells the story of what Antifa is and why people are using these tactics to confront racism and fascism in the US today.

Who are the anti-fascists? What motivates them to risk their lives to fight the far right? What is the history of militant anti-fascism and why is it relevant again today? How is anti-fascism connected to a larger political vision that can stop the rise of fascism and offer us visions of a future worth fighting for? Through interviews with anti-fascist organizers, historians, and political theorists in the US and Germany, we explore the broader meaning of this political moment while taking the viewer to the scene of street battles from Washington to Berkeley and Charlottesville.

"I was able to use bias in my reports" "IndyWatch Feed Europe"

Just bumping this post from this morning back up the blog, as it poses very serious questions for the BBC...

A LABOUR frontbencher has admitted broadcasting biased news reports while working as a BBC journalist.
And last night the revelation by shadow treasury minister Clive Lewis plunged the corporation into a damaging storm.
Mr Lewis told left-wing Momentum members: I was able to use bias in my reports by giving less time to one than the other.
I reported on both but the angle and words and the language I used I know the pictures I used I was able to project my own particular political positions on things in a very subtle way.
Mr Lewis made his damning comments last September at a Momentum rally in Brighton.
They were discovered in a secret recording and will be a huge embarrassment to BBC bosses.
Tory MP Damian Collins said: Hes boasting about undermining one of our great institutions.
A spokesman for Mr Lewis declined to comment.
And the BBC's response?:
A BBC spokesperson said: Our editorial guidelines ensure impartiality.
Clive Lewis was a senior BBC broadcast journalist and the main reporter on the BBC's Politics Show East

The Post Should Be Viewed By Current Editors Of The Post "IndyWatch Feed War"

David Swanson, January 28, 2018

The Post is not exactly an anti-war movie, Ellsberg is not a main character, the peace movement is just rabble scenery, and the major focus is split between journalisms struggle against government and Katherine Grahams struggle against sexism. But we are in fact told in this film that the Pentagon Papers documented decades of official war lies and the continuation of mass-slaughter year-after-year purely out of cowardly unwillingness to be the one to end it. The Post leaves Ellsberg looking like the hero he is and Robert McNamara looking like the Nazi he was. And Im left to complain that I have nothing to complain about.

Well, except this: Were supposed to believe that the fact that the U.S. government had been blatantly lying about its motivations, actions, and analyses of its warmaking for decades came as a shocking revelation to every intern, reporter, editor, and publisher at the Washington Post, that they all had simply had no idea, bless their hearts, and that they all immediately believed that this brand-new truth needed to be told (with the only hurdle being the willingness of the publisher to stick to the obvious course of action when faced with legal threats from the Justice Department).

This story obscures the fact that senators, Congress members, independent reporters like I.F. Stone, and many others had been exposing the lies in real time for years. And, of course, many statements appeared to be lies without the need for any exposure. Were expected to overlook the willful suspension of disbelief required to believe, for example, that predicting imminent success in Vietnam over and over again for years was all driven by honest reflection on facts. Is Torrenting Legal? "IndyWatch Feed Tech"

Imagine this: You have a file that you wish to download to your computer. But it is so heavy it requires a high bandwidth. If you proceed to do it, it may take you hours or even days to complete the process.

How do you speed it up? This is where the idea of torrent comes in.

Torrenting (or using torrent) has been around for a couple of years, but because not many understand how it truly works, it has also been a favorite subject of controversy. Is it illegal to download files from the system? Before we answer the question, lets discuss its process.

How Torrents Work?

Torrents have been compared with the peer-to-peer system because they both involve sharing files. But they are two different methods.

In the peer-to-peer system, all the users make use of a program or a software to download the files. If you wish to download a file, you, therefore, reach out to other users who are hosting them.

The big problem with this setup is you can be on the losing end. If a person suddenly turns off his computer, for example, after he downloaded the file, you cannot complete the process. For this reason, the peer-to-peer software or program often penalizes the behavior usually by booting you out.

Torrenting came later. The objective is to hasten the downloading of what could have been a much heavier file by breaking it down, putting it in different places, and then piecing it all together simultaneously once you want to download it.

As an illustration, lets say you have file A, which is about 3 GB. In the torrent system, it becomes file A-1, A-2, A-3, etc. Different users host this file. Now you want to download it, the system then picks A-1, A-2, A-3, and all the others, putting them all together to complete the file. Because the process is simultaneous, it doesnt hurt the bandwidth, and it doesnt corrupt the file.

Torrent also has other advantages against the peer-to-peer system. It doesnt rely on a program, so it doesnt take eat a space in your memory. Rather, it is web-based. Second, it doesnt allow people to drop out once they already have the files through a rewards system: the more files you host and share, the faster the download process is.

Is Torrenting Legal?

Is Torrenting Illegal?

There are many ways to use torrent, but many of the users tend to depend on torrent for one reason: downloading of heavy content such as TV shows and movies....

Cool Cousin to Implement Blockchain in Order to Become World First P2P Travel Agency "IndyWatch Feed Tech"

Tourism is an industry whose size and value creation can compete with any other industry in the world. People move around the world for different reasons and at different times, however, the unique cultures of travel locations remain peculiar and best understood by the locals.

The tourism industry is a combination of various other fields in smaller bits that determine the outcome of travel experiences, especially for people traveling to unfamiliar destinations.

People travel for different reasons such as work, vacation, exploration, e.t.c. Hence, depending on their specific reasons, individuals arriving to new destinations normally need some level of guidance either for their entire trip or at least the initial stages before they settle.

The impact of online agencies

Mainstream travel agencies have played significant roles in enabling tourists achieve convenience in their trips. However, the innovation introduced by online based platforms has taken the industry to new heights, placing it among the worlds largest industries with a market turnover of over $2.3 trillion in 2016 alone. A growth which saw the industrys user base experience an unprecedented growth of 220% in six months.

Cool Cousin to Implement Blockchain in Order to Become World First P2P Travel Agency

Online booking platforms have registered staggering figures that make the mainstream outlets look like childs play. Examples include, Priceline ($85B), Airbnb ($30B), Yelp ($3.5), TripAdvisor ($5B) among others. These platforms thrive on the globalized nature of the internet which affords the option of public reviews and opinions, thereby presenting the semblance of fairness in terms of ratings. However, the possibility of foul play puts the reliability of these platforms in question. The actions of centralized platforms that influence reviews to make their services attractive in a competitive market is a weakness that is currently hurting the industry.

Information overload and biased content in the centralized travel market, makes it impossible for travelers to find relevant info. No matter how hard they try to avoid dubious recommendations, much of their vacation time (and dime) is wasted on mediocre places that dont fit their vibe, says Itai Nagler, CEO and founder of Cool Cousin

Book Review: Anarchist Encounters. Russia in Revolution. Edited by A.W. Zurbrugg (London: Anarres Editions -Merlin Press, 2017)

With the occasion of the recent centenary of the Russian Revolution of October, 1917, Anthony Zurbrugg has edited a wonderful contribution to our understanding of those turbulent times. As the revolution turned into a bitter civil war, exacerbated by the blockade of Soviet Russia by the allies of the Entente mostly France, Britain and the US-, news of what was really going on in Russia were scarce. While the bourgeois press published horror stories, the left-wing movements associated to the Bolshevik movement reproduced propaganda documents which idealised everything Soviet. It was only in 1920 that it became possible for foreigners to visit the Soviet Union, and many unionists and revolutionaries from all over the world did so in order to offer they support and to witness the revolution with their very own eyes. The trip was not easy: often the travellers would be arrested by the countries of the so-called free world on their way in or out of the Soviet Union. However the hardships of such a trip, the testimonies left by these visitors give us an invaluable insight into the revolution as it developed, its complexities, hardship, difficulties, achievements and disappointments.

Bringing to life a world in revolution

What we found in this collection of reports put together by Zurbrugg, are testimonies written by anarchists who visited the USSR in the crucial years of 1920-1921, in a period in which still the majority of the anarchist movement supported the Bolsheviks, being oblivious (or in denial) of the s...

George Soros Declares War On President Trump and His Supporters "IndyWatch Feed Nthamerica"

George Soros, the Godfather of the left, has started into motion the seeds for a racial gencide for White America. He is promoting racial violence in America on an unprecedented scale. He is the driving force behind the sedition that is CALEXIT. Soros is even biting the hands that feed him.

George Soros has made a fool of himself  at the World Economic Forum in Davos, Switzerland. He presented a demeanor that suggests that he is in serious cognitive decline. Clearly this former Nazi collaborator is losing his mental acuity. However, there is one thing that the world can be certain of, George Soros wants to bring harm to both the American people and to the current President in particular.

Soros Failed Prediction

Before launching into the latest Soros conspiracy which is directed by the American people, it is important to note that Soros prediction about President Trump, made one year ago, has proven to be horribly wrong.

One year ago, George Soros offered a series of catastrophic predictions that President Trump would be responsible for crashing the U.S. economy. This dire prediction has been proven false because over 3 million American have received bonuses as a result of the Presidents tax plan. This may be the first time that trickle down economics has actually trickled down to the American people and it happened under Trumps watch.

The Tiniest Working 68K System "IndyWatch Feed Tech"

68000 microprocessors appeared in the earliest Apple Macintoshes, the Commodore Amiga and Atari ST, and the Sega Genesis/Mega Drive among other familiar systems. If you were alive during the 16-bit era, there is a good chance that you will have owned a Motorola 68000 or one of its derivatives in a computer or game console. By the end of the 1990s it was clear that the 68K line had had its day on the desktop, but a new life for it at the consumer level was found in the PDA market. The first Motorola Dragonball was a 68000 series system-on-chip, and it was a few of these in a BGA package that [Plasmode] had in stock after ordering them in error believing them to be in a different package.

The Dragonball 68328 has an interesting bootstrap mode allowing it to run with no external ROM or RAM, and with only a serial connection to the outside world. Recognising this as having the potential for the smallest possible 68K system, he proceeded to make it happen with some impressive soldering direct to the solder balls of an upturned BGA package.

On a piece of PCB material are simply the 68328, a 32.768kHz crystal and capacitors, a MAX232 circuit for an RS232 serial connection, a reset button, and a power regulator. Using the Motorola DOS debug software which is still available for download after all these years, he was able to connect to his tiny 68K computer and run code. Its not entirely useful, but of all the possible 68K configurations it has to be the smallest.

This isnt the first minimal computer using only a processor chip and serial link, in the past weve shown you a PDP-11 in the same vein.

In Davos, World Sees Trump The Pragmatist "IndyWatch Feed War"

Image may contain: 1 person, suit and text
.
No one was declaring President Donald Trump a changed man. Privately, executives and global leaders who had gathered in Davos continued to worry that the US president could yet indulge his worst instincts and his penchant for shock on Twitter to deliver a geopolitical crisis, open up a new front in trade hostilities or offend a vast group of people.
 .
But a rough consensus emerged over Trumps two-day visit that his administration had shown itself to be more pragmatic than advertised. Many were inclined to view the presidents most extreme positions as just aggressive bargaining postures. Im optimistic that, with other world leaders, most of these issues can be tackled in a productive way for the global economy and for global businesses.
 .
During the dinner, Trump made the rounds, stopping to ask executives how they plan to increase investment in the United States, according to attendees. In his speech, Trump took credit for a booming US stock market and strong economic growth, pointing to the regulations his administration has slashed, as well as the US$1.5 trillion (S$1.96 trillion) package of tax cuts he championed and navigated through Congress.
 .
He left the impression that he was above all eager to woo foreign investment, as if he were leading some amped-up US Chamber of Commerce. Over the past year, we have made extraordinary strides in the United States, Trump said. After years of stagnation, the United States is once again experiencing strong economic growth.
 .
Economists note that the US economy is into its ninth year of expansion, a trend that speaks to how the aftermath from the 2008 financial crisis has finally run its course. A surge of cash delivered by the Federal Reserve has stimulated commercial activity.

More patents mean patent maximalism, not necessarily innovation (an old myth like griffins)

Mythological creature

Summary: The tough reality about patents, which are basically pieces of paper with some text and drawings, not what corporate media wants us to think of them (innovation)

FIVE DAYS AGO we saw the headline South Dakotans got more patents in 2017 than any previous year (sounds great, doesnt it?).

As patent numbers generally increase at a growing pace (now at an all-time high at the USPTO), this is a pretty meaningless thing to note; its probably true in most US states, not just South Dakota. The subtle implication is a corny assertion that more patents directly lead to more innovation however one actually defines the term (some have made it synonymous with patents).

The subtle implication is a corny assertion that more patents directly lead to more innovation however one actually defines the term (some have made it synonymous with patents).Theres still this tendency in local media to glorify newly-granted patents in the area (here are a couple of new examples [1, 2]).  January 28 at 9:30 AM
From central Moscow to the Arctic, thousands of Russian protesters on Sunday called for a boycott of the upcoming presidential election even as the authorities detained organizers and raided the office of opposition leader Alexei Navalny.Police detained Navalny, who branded the boycott a voters strike against Russian President Vladimir Putins government, shortly after the protests began. But more than 1,000 people took to one of Moscows central thoroughfares nevertheless. Thousands more turned out on squares and streets in St. Petersburg, in Siberia, and in places as remote as Murmansk, a port city in the far north where the temperature Sunday afternoon was 8 degrees below zero Fahrenheit.

By sitting at home on our couch and talking to friends, nothing will change, said Alexandra Sokolova, a 31-year-old financial adviser who joined the Moscow protest. Maybe my kids will live in a better country.

The protests Sunday were unusual in their scope, with Navalny supporters organizing some 115 events across the country. But they appeared smaller than his demonstrations last June, when Russian news media estimated that at least 50,000 people protested nationwide.

The protests are unlikely to have an immediate political impact in Russia, where voters will go to the polls in the March 18 presidential election and deliver what is expected to be a resounding endorsement of a fourth term for Putin. But they showed the resilience of a vocal minority of Navalny supporters, even in Russias far-flung regions, who are willing to risk arrest to back his grass-roots campaign to unseat Putin.

I support Navalny because I want something to change, said Vita, a 19-year-old protester in Murmansk who declined to give her last name. It may be for better, it may be for worse. I totally understand that.

While some Putin critics will be on the March presidential ballot, the most prominent one Navalny will not. The anti-corruption activis...

Israel summons Polish envoy over Holocaust bill "IndyWatch Feed War"

AFP/File | A picture from January 25, 2015 shows the entrance to the former Nazi concentration camp of Auschwitz-Birkenau with its infamous Arbeit macht frei (Work makes you free) above the gate

JERUSALEM (AFP)  Israel summoned a top Polish diplomat on Sunday to express concerns over legislation Warsaw was advancing regarding the Holocaust and the definition of Nazi death camps.Polands rightwing-dominated parliament adopted legislation on Friday setting a maximum three-year jail term for anyone who accuses the Polish nation or state of complicity with Nazi crimes, or who refers to Nazi German death camps as being Polish.

The measure, intended to apply to both Poles and foreigners, must still pass the Senate before being signed by the president.

The charge daffaires for Polands embassy in Israel, Piotr Kozlowski, was summoned to the foreign ministry for a clarification with senior officials, a statement read.

Israels opposition to the wording of the bill was expressed to him, the ministry said.

The timing of the bill the eve of International Holocaust Remembrance Day was particularly surprising and unfortunate.

It added that the legislation will not help further the exposure of historical truth and may harm freedom of research, as well as prevent discussion of the historical message and legacy of World War II.

Late on Saturday, Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu accused Poland of seeking to deny history with the bill, sentiments he repeated at the start of the weekly cabinet meeting.

We have no tolerance for the distortion of the truth and rewriting history or denying the Holocaust, Netanyahu said on Sunday.

Noting that the bill must go through two more stages before being finalised, Netanyahu said he had expressed our position that it must be changed.

Over the week our ambassador (to Poland) and her team will have talks about this with the Polish leadership, including the prime minister, president and Polish senate, Netanyahu said.

Poland was attacked and occupied by Nazi Germany in World War II, losing six million of its citizens, including three million Jews in the Holocaust.

Polish officials routinely request corrections when global media or politicians describe as Polish former death camps such as Auschwitz set up by Nazi Germany in occupied Poland.

Hesam Shaeri Hesari Continues Hunger Strike in Moria on Lesvos

Yesterday Hesam announced that he was transferred to the detention center (section B) inside the Moria refugee camp on Lesvos, Greece. He continued his hunger strike, that he started 18 days ago. Three days ago Hesam also stopped drinking.

Hesam was transferred to Moria prison a few days ago, after he was imprisoned at the police station for about 80 days. Like other refugees in section B, Hesam was not allowed to use his cell phone to inform people about his transfer. In section B detainees are only allowed to use their cell phones once a week.

The Iranian refugee is in hunger strike for 18 days now and today is his third day of his dry hunger strike. His request for asylum was rejected, state authorities want to deport him. In Iran he was a political activist and converted his religion. In Iran Hesams life is in danger. The EU asylum system doesnt seem to bother the fact that Hesams life is in danger when he gets deported. The fact that Hesam has a medical report about his psychological issues and that his physical condition has worsened after earlier hunger strikes, doesnt stop authorities from keeping him in prison in the so-called EU hotspot Moria.

Arash Hampay wrote on his Facebook page that nobody is allowed to visit Hesam at the moment. Arash also wrote: I ha...

Exit From The Matrix: the vital imagination-anchor effect: the key to power

by Jon Rappoport

January 28, 2018

As my readers know, I write many articles about the power of imagination. And my collection, Exit From The Matrix, contains a number of unique imagination exercises which a person can practice every day, and thus accrue major benefits.

I want to stress this fact: a person, empowered by his own imagination, needs to use the power to form and carry out a major enterprise in the world.

After all, were living in this world. Were here for action.

Imagination can be anchored to action.

Imagination participates in creating a personal vision of what you truly want to do in life. And it also participates in the strategy for achieving that vision and making it into accomplished fact.

Action without imagination falls flat. Imagination without action results in spinning your wheels in the same basic place.

Imagination plus action is the dynamic embrace.

It enables a person to step out on the bright road to his future.

It puts everything else in a new perspective.

I cover all this in great depth, in Exit From The Matrix.

Mandalay Bay four months later: Are you safe? "IndyWatch Feed Nthamerica"

Investigative reporter and security and intelligence expert team up to expose a serious flaw in Mandalay Bay Security

It appears that anyone can take the service elevator at Mandalay Bay.

Not a guest? Not a problem! No Key? No Problem!

Need to get in without anyone even talking to you or asking for ID or anything? NO PROBLEM!

On January 25th, 2018, I decided to see how hard it would be to get inside the service elevators at Mandalay Bay without being a guest at the hotel. My goal was to enter Mandalay Bay Resort and Casino, the same hotel Stephen Paddock was staying at the day of the Las Vegas Shooting, and take the service elevator to the 32nd floor with a duffel bag to see if Mandalay Bay and MGM Resorts had improved their security.

While there was security guarding the center core elevators in the hotel, no one seemed to be guarding the service elevators, you know, the same service elevators Stephen Paddock used to bring huge amounts of weapons and ammo up to his 32nd-floor suite. Along with Mike Turber, I was able to go up and down the service elevators multiple times at Mandalay Bay in clear sight of surveillance cameras. I came in contact with housekeeping and walked right past the employee security room and was not questioned or stopped.

Jesus Encounters Possessed Men by James Tissot

Reading 1 2 SM 15:13-14, 30; 16:5-13

An informant came to David with the report,
The children of Israel have transferred their loyalty to Absalom.
At this, David said to all his servants
who were with him in Jerusalem:
Up! Let us take flight, or none of us will escape from Absalom.
Leave quickly, lest he hurry and overtake us,
then visit disaster upon us and put the city to the sword. As David went up the Mount of Olives, he wept without ceasing.
His head was covered, and he was walking barefoot.
All those who were with him also had their heads covered
and were weeping as they went.As David was approaching Bahurim,
a man named Shimei, the son of Gera
of the same clan as Sauls family,
was coming out of the place, cursing as he came.
He threw stones at David and at all the kings officers,
even though all the soldiers, including the royal guard,
were on Davids right and on his left.
Shimei was saying as he cursed:
Away, away, you murderous and wicked man!
The LORD has requited you for all the bloodshed in the family of Saul,
in whose stead you became king,
and the LORD has given over the kingdom to your son Absalom.
And now you suffer ruin because you are a murderer.
Abishai, son of Zeruiah, said to the king:
Why should this dead dog curse my lord the king?
Let me go over, please, and lop off his head.
But the king replied: What business is it of mine or of yours,
sons of Zeruiah, that he curses?
Suppose the LORD has told him to curse David;
who then will dare to say, Why are you doing this?'
Then the king said to Abishai and to all his servants:
If my own son, who came forth from my loins, is seeking my life,
how much more might this...

As was noted here at the time, the BBC News websites January 16th report on the withholding of part of the United States annual donation to UNRWA  US holds back $65m aid to Palestinians included a nugget of unrelated information under the sub-heading How much aid does the US send to Palestinians?:

The USs $370m dwarfs the amount given by other donors in 2016, the second-largest donor, the EU, gave less than half as much to UNWRA, which runs educational, health and social programmes.

The US also donated $260m in bilateral aid, with much of it going towards projects administered by the US Agency for International Development (USAid).

Those projects are run by non-governmental organisations involved in humanitarian assistance, economic development, democratic reform, improving water access and other infrastructure, healthcare, education, and vocational training.

More Warfare, Bombing, Deaths in Trumps First Year "IndyWatch Feed Nthamerica"

The wars the U.S. waged during Barack Obamas tenure have sharply escalated under Trump. The result has been a predictable and massive spike in civilian deaths. This unfettering is evident in an almost 50 percent increase of airstrikes in Iraq and Syria during Trumps first year in office, leading to a rise in civilian deaths by more than 200 percent compared with the year before. The watchdog group Airwars, which has tracked the U.S. war against Islamic State since 2014, remarked, This unprecedented death toll coincided with the start of the Trump presidency, and suggested in part that policies aimed at protecting civilians had been scaled back under the new administration. Another analysis by the U.K. organization Action on Armed Violence (AOAV) found that civilian deaths from explosive weapons in Iraq, Syria and Yemen increased by 42 percent in 2017. The group explained that the bigger death toll was largely due to a massive increase in deadly airstrikes.

AI Potentially Deciphers Voynich Manuscript "IndyWatch Feed Tech"

Arthur T Knackerbracket has found the following story:

Greg Kondrak, a computer scientist from University of Alberta's AI lab, claims to have begun decoding the mystery behind the unknown text with his novel algorithm, CTVNews reported.

[...] It is believed that the manuscript is somehow related to women's health but there is no solid clue, according to the report. People have made wild guesses regarding the code, with at least eight making firm claims only to be debunked later on.

Kondark, however, took a different approach towards solving the problem artificial intelligence. "Once you see it, once you find out the mystery, this is a natural human tendency to solve the puzzle," the computer scientist told CTVNews. "I was intrigued and thought I could contribute something new."

He and his co-author Bradley Hauer combined novel AI algorithms with statistical procedures to identify and translate the language. The approach, which had been used to translate United Nations Universal Declaration of Human Rights in 380 languages, came in handy and suggested the language was Hebrew, albeit with critical tweaks.

They found that the letters in every word had been reordered and the vowels were dropped in the code. The first complete sentence which the AI decrypted read, "She made recommendations to the priest, man of the house and me and people." One section of the text carries words that translate into "farmer", "light", "air", and "fire".

The translated line could be the starting of something big but it is a long way to go for Kondark, who stresses on the need of complementary human assistance. However, it is not clear how accurate the translation really is.

"Somebody with very good knowledge of Hebrew and who's a historian at the same time could take this evidence and follow this kind of clue," he said while highlighting the need of someone who could make sense of the translated text.

For those who may not be familiar with the manuscript, see Voynich Manuscript at Wikipedia, or read it yourself at archive.org (Javascript required).

Trumps tax plan is working wonders (Capitalism works) "IndyWatch Feed War"

By Michael Goodwin
New York Post

January 27, 2018 | 8:21pm

Image may contain: one or more people, suit and text

Not that they needed one, but progressive wing nuts and their fellow travelers are getting another reason to hate President Trump. Hes proving that capitalism works.

The presidents policies of cutting high taxes and excessive regulations are sparking a stock market surge and soaring economic confidence.

Each day brings announcements from companies ranging from Apple to Walmart that they are giving bonuses and pay hikes, adding new jobs and increasing their investments in America.

Millions of workers will get the bonuses, most of which are for $1,000, and untold others will get new or higher-paying jobs.

Most of those workers also will see their take-home pay increase because they will get personal income tax cuts and a doubling of the standard deduction. Those changes will become apparent in a week or so when the new lower rates are applied to payrolls.

The cash-in-the-pocket benefits are great news to many families, but the boom is doing something else too: Its giving the millennials a firsthand bonuses,.

Following eight slow-growth years under President Barack Obama and an election where their favorite candidate, Bernie Sanders, railed against the wealthy and promised free stuff for everybody else, many young Americans were taught that socialism is their friend and capitalism their enemy.

Now they are getting proof that the opposite is true. They are eyewitnesses as capitalism provides more opportunities and financial security to more people than any other system.

If they still have doubts, they need only ask their parents about their swelling 401(k) and IRA accounts as a result of the Dow Jones 45 percent climb since Trumps election.

All Democrats voted against the tax cuts and some refuse to celebrate the good results. House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi called the bonuses crumbs and likened them to cheese on a mouse trap. Former party boss Debbie Wasserman Schultz told a crowd that Im not sure that $1,000 goes very far for almost anyone.

Last years disputed elections in Honduras continue to present a struggle for grassroots activists in the country, who face harsh police and military crackdowns in response to protests, reports Dennis J. The new right-wing renegade government there is inflicting terrible violence upon people who refuse to accept the election results from Last Novembers election between extreme right-wing parliamentary dictator, Juan Orlando Hernandez, the current president, and progressive reformer, Salvador Nasralla. Cuffe also expressed deep concern for the safety of Edwin Espinal, a noted activist and ally to many movements in Honduras, including COPINH.

Palestinian Suffering Is Caused by Very Existence of Israel "IndyWatch Feed Nthamerica"

This brings up a crucial point that is often overlooked in the discussion on Palestine. The sought-after peace for the people who live in Palestine will only be possible once there is a political reality in which Palestinian rights are restored and respected. The slogan No-Justice, No-Peace is in fact a fundamental principle: justice is the foundation for peace and for peaceful coexistence between Palestinians, the natives of Palestine, and Israelis who are colonizers and children of colonizers. The expectation that people can live in peace while they suffer injustice is outrageous. It is also outrageous that people who impose injustice expect to live in peace while others suffer. Israel does nothing to alleviate the suffering of Palestinians and any expectation that it will is naive or foolish. It is crucial that this is understood fully. Palestinian suffering is caused by very existence of Israel because it is a settler colonial project.

Clinton, Podesta, others, in senate crosshairs over dossier, given two weeks to respond "IndyWatch Feed Nthamerica"

GOP Congressional investigators have written six letters to individuals or entities involved or thought to be involved in the funding, creation or distribution of the salacious and unverified Trump-Russia dossier believed to have been inappropriately used by the FBI, DOJ and Obama Administration in an effort to undermine Donald Trump as both a candidate and President of the United States.

Senators Chuck Grassley (R-IA) and Lindsey Graham (R-SCS) wrote six Judiciary Committee letters requesting information from: John Podesta, Donna Brazille, Debbie Wasserman Schultz, Robbie Mook, the DNC, and Hillary For America Chief Strategist Joel Benenson.

A brief refresher of facts and allegations:

  • The DNC and Hillary Clintons PAC was revealed by The Washington Post  to have paid opposition research firm Fusion GPS for the creation of a dossier that would be harmful to then-candidate Donald Trump.
  • Fusion commissioned former UK spy Christopher Steele to assemble the dossier  which is comprised of a series of memos relying largely on Russian government sources to make allegations against Donald Trump and his associates.
  • According to court filings, Fusion also worked with disgraced DOJ official Bruce Ohr, and hired his CIA-linked wife, Nellie Ohr, to assist in the smear campaign against Trump. Bruce Ohr was demoted from his senior DOJ position after it was revealed that he met with Fusion GPS co-founder Glenn Simpson as well as Christopher Steele then tried to cover it up.
  • Hillary Clintons campaign chairman, John Podesta, denied under oath to the Senate Intelligence Committee that he knew about the dossiers funding, while Clintons former spokesman, Brian Fallon, told CNN that Hillary likely had no idea who paid for it either.
  • Current and past leaders of the DNC, including Debbie Wasserman Schultz (D-FL) also denied knowledge of the documents funding.
  • Podesta met with Fusion co-founder Glenn Simpson the day after the Trump-Russia dossier was published by Buzzfeed News.

The Senate Judiciary Committee letters read in part:

In October 2017, the Washington Post reported that Hillary for America and the Democratic National Committee...

Yemens southern separatists: thirsting for lost independence "IndyWatch Feed War"

AFP

AFP | A boy, his face painted in the colours of the Yemen southern separatist movement, flashes the V-sign at a rally in Aden in November 201

ADEN (AFP)  Yemens Prime Minister Ahmed bin Dagher on Sunday accused southern separatists of attempting a coup in the interim capital of Aden after they took over the government headquarters. The premier called on the Saudi-led coalition fighting Iran-backed Huthi rebels to intervene after fierce clashes.

Here is some background on the latest twist in Yemens tangled conflict:

Two become one

South Yemen was an independent state with former British colony Aden as its capital from its formation in 1967 until 1990, when it was unified with North Yemen under northern leader Ali Abdullah Saleh.

Four years later, it launched a separatist rebellion which culminated in its occupation by northern forces.

The scars of that war are still widely felt, feeding separatist sentiment.

Power vacuum

In the chaos that has followed the ouster of Saleh by protests in 2011, southern separatists have bolstered the forces of internationally recognised President Abedrabbo Mansour Hadi in the battle against the Huthis and loyalists of the now-dead strongman.

In March 2015, the Huthis advanced on second city Aden, where Hadi had taken refuge after escaping house arrest in the capital Sanaa.

But the Saudi-led coalition helped pro-Hadi forces push the rebels out of Aden in July that year, as well as from four other provinces.

Hadi loyalists have been boosted by the Popular Resistance alliance of southern separatists and tribesmen who took up arms after the rebels advanced on their regions.

The separatists have long called for the secession of the formerly independent South Yemen, and their support for Hadi has been far from unconditional.

South Transition Council

Sundays violence came after protests called by the South Transition Council, an autonomous body aimed at overseeing self-governance among southern provinces.

The 26-member council, which is not recognised by Hadis government, includes the governors of five southern provinces and two cabinet ministers.

Former Aden governor Aidarous al-Zoubeidi formed the council last May after Hadi fired him the previous month.

Hadi sacked Zoubeidi along w...

Graduate Student Unions Are Growing And Fighting For Social Justice "IndyWatch Feed Nthamerica"

Not surprisingly, when graduate students heard that the Republican tax bill included a provision to tax tuition waivers, most became both upset and angry. But rather than despair, they organized. On campus after campus, in city after city, they mobilized to protest the 2017 bill. Their concerns extended beyond the injustice of taxing in-kind financial aid incentives as income, to include a broader progressive agenda: opposing racism, sexism, classism and homophobia; denouncing corporate tax giveaways; fighting the growth of anti-intellectualism; and countering attacks on publicly funded education. Austin A. Baker, a Ph.D.-level philosophy student at New Jersey's Rutgers University, joined students from Drexel University, the University of Pennsylvania and elsewhere to oppose the proposed measure.

#DefendAfrin Demonstration Stopped by Cops in Cologne

More than 20.000 people came to Cologne, Germany, yesterday to protest against the Turkish military aggression in Afrin, Rojava. But the demo was stopped by riot cops because people were waving flags with a portrait of Abdullah calan, one of the founders of the PKK, an organisation that is banned in Germany since 1993.

Yesterdays demonstration started to march with a delay of about an hour. The cops did not allow the demo to start because people were carrying flags, vests and t-shirts with portaits of calan.  There were also many YPG flags but the cops allowed these flags in Cologne. Although the YPJ and YPG fought ISIS in Rojava, their flags are banned in Germany since March 2017. After questions about the ban in German parliament, the German federal government said that the YPJ and YPG flags are not banned as such but when they are used as an alternative for banned PKK symbols.

The demo marched a few hundred meters when the cops stopped the demo and kettled two groups of the demo. One in the middle and one at the back of the demo. The front group was also blocked by riot cops and water cannons. Behind the kettle of the middle group, people from the anti-authoritarian group formed a chain between the riot cops and a group of protesters with many families. The situation was tense but the protesters remained calm after this act of authoritarian state behaviour.

The Fake News "IndyWatch Feed Nthamerica"

Some of the fake news that the righteous fringe get is the Jim Bakker sort: its the end of days, buy our bucket of tasteless high-calorie chum. Sometimes I get really nasty stuff, like this.

Im not sure what to call the subgenre of politics this is targeting probably anti-immigrant survivalist or something like that. Its from one of the same spam-senders that keeps offering me tactical gear aimed at the fear-addicted ignoranti:

Im having a little trouble forgetting the UN relief workers who brought a cholera outbreak to Haiti, but I doubt that the American fringe would care about that. And somehow I doubt they are thinking about the horrible, devastating viral plagues that the Europeans brought to the Americas, killing millions those arent the immigrants theyre worried about here.

No, its playing into some bizzaro-land fantasy in which disease-bearing immigrants come here, probably from some Middle Eastern or African country that we turned into a failed state. The American prepper with the tactical gear is, not to put too fine a point on it, preparing to club down the victims of his own aggression. Its just another way that America, a nation of immigrants and colonists, shits on people that are, basically the same as them.

The underlying appeal is the same one that American racists made from the civil war, onward: these dirty immigrants are going to infect your children, your daughters, and probably rape your women. So: buy guns and maybe a tactical spork to protect yourself. Part of the beauty of this appeal is that the customer will never get to find out that its all bullshit because theyll never be attacked by an immigrant the immigrants are almost certainly much more scared of Americans than the Americans have any business being of them.

In a blatant example of do as I say, not as I do, the US government is profiting handsomely by accepting marijuana cash in the payment of taxes while imposing huge penalties on banks for accepting it as deposits. Onerous reporting requirements are driving small local banks to sell out to Wall Street. Congress needs to harmonize federal with state law.

Qatars foreign minister says Gulf crisis is all over a woman "IndyWatch Feed Africa"

Qatars Foreign Minister has made the extraordinary claim that the diplomatic crisis in the gulf was all brought about by a dispute over a woman renewing her passport.

Speaking on Qatari national television Minister Mohammed bin Abdul Rahman al-Thani said that the countrys refusal to extradite the wife of an Emirati opposition figure led to the UAE taking an aggressive stance against its neighbor and launching attacks in the media.

The woman and her husband moved to Qatar after leaving the UAE in 2013. The husband subsequently moved to the UK but the woman stayed in Qatar because of family ties. When she tried to renew her passport the Emirati embassy refused her application and demanded her extradition.

Prince Tamim refused to extradite the woman because she was not wanted in a criminal offense, and this would be contrary to international law and the Qatari Constitution, the foreign minister said.

What Is This FBI "Secret Society"?c, 2003 "IndyWatch Feed Economics"

- Trade Genius Academy: Learn the safe, sure way to trade. https://www.TradeGeniusAcademy.com Good evening, Im still reporting on: What Is This FBI "Secret Society"?c, 2003 Synopsis: This week has been one of extraordinary revelations about the workings and makeup of the so-called Deep State especially the revelations about the secret society under whose umbrella they apparently met. I just want to gather up what details I can before this thread of this mega-story in case the story disappears forever. Several members of Congress have mentioned a text between FBI lovers Peter Strzok and Lisa Page mentioning a meeting of the secret society in regards to those who hate President Trump. Senator Ron Johnson added this additional piece of information regarding the secret society. [insert] The next day, Sen. Johnson quickly walked back his comments, saying it may have been a joke. How could it be a joke, Sen. Johnson, if you have an eyewitness telling you about it. But then on Wednesday, True Pundit came out with this bombshell filled with additional details. Congressional investigators and intelligence veterans have uncovered a clandestine group of anti-President Trump federal employees who have reportedly been working to sabotage the President of the United States, according to Congressional and federal law enforcement sources. The True Pundit story even provided some detail on who were members of this secret society: FBI agents gone rogue against Trump in favor of Barack Obamas agenda who are linked to the many investigations into FBI corruption Federal judges Federal prosecutors Retired FBI Possibly one sitting Attorney General of a large U.S. state Possibly former Attorney General(s) of the United States Support Our Sponsors: - Virtual Shield VPN - the easiest way to create a home VPN. No one knows who the mysterious QAnon is, but he or she is thought to be someone with access to the Oval office. The latest seems to be that in light of the pending release to the public of the 4-page summary of the coup activities from the House Intelligence Committee, President Obama, has retained counsel in 9 different nations. The idea is that the release of the memo will be so damaging to Obama that hes moved to a defensive position. Now, we have no idea if this is true. Why are we offering it to our audience, then? Because an analysis by Dr. Jerome Corsi of Sundays cryptic QAnon posts. Here are some of the highlights. Again, we dont know if these are true, but we suspect they are.

Russia: New US sanctions illegal, unreasonable "IndyWatch Feed Economics"

Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov welcomes US Secretary of State Rex Tillerson in Moscow on 12 April 2017 [Image: MFA, Russia]

Russia has protested a new set of US sanctions and said that they are not only illegal but will counter Washingtons goals in Europe.

On Friday, the Trump administration said that the Treasury Department had slapped Moscow with more sanctions in response to what it said was Russias occupation of Crimea and the continued crisis in the Ukraine.

It also expanded a list of 21 individuals and authorities, including government officials who said were connected to illicit activities in the Crimea.

Those who provide goods, services, or material support to individuals and entities sanctioned by the United States for their activities in Ukraine are engaging in behavior that could expose them to US sanctions, Treasury Secretary Steve Mnuchin said in a press release.

The list also included an additional nine companies.

Russian Energy Minister Aleksandr Novak responded to the new sanctions in a press statement by saying that there would be no negative impact on the would bring no harm to the Russian economy and industries, the minister said, adding that they will only increase tensions between Moscow and Washington.

Deputy Energy Minister Andrei Cherezov is one of the 21 individuals on the US Treasury Departments list.

Previously, Russian Foreign Minister also called the sanctions unreasonable and said that Russias economy has withstood all the sanctions over the past four years

There are no grounds for [the sanctions], Lavrov told reporters last week.

As for their goals, they are futile because, as their authors can see, several years of these sanctions have been unable to change Russias honest, open and constructive policy.

Biologic Additive May Lead to Self-Healing Concrete "IndyWatch Feed Tech"

If you get a cut or break a bone, your body heals itself. This everyday miracle is what inspired [Congrui Jin] to try to find a way to make concrete self-healing. The answer she and her colleagues are working on might surprise you. They are adding fungus to concrete to enable self-repair.

It isnt just any fungus. The conditions in concrete are very harsh, and after testing twenty different kinds, they found that one kind  trichoderma reesei could survive inside concrete as spores. This fungus is widespread in tropical soil and doesnt pose any threat to humans or the ecology. Mixing nutrients and spores into concrete is easy enough. When cracks form in the concrete, water and oxygen get in and the spores grow. The spores act as a catalyst for calcium carbonate crystals which fill the cracks. When the water is gone, the fungi go back to spores, ready to repair future cracking.

It isnt clear to us why the fungi dont grow on the outside, but we can imagine several solutions. The research is in early stages, so perhaps they dont fully know yet, either. Earlier work proposed using bacteria in some sort of encapsulation to do this same trick (see the second video, below). However, the fungus creating its own hardy spore that can survive inside the concrete would simplify that greatly.

You might wonder why small cracks in concrete are a big deal. Concrete isnt that strong, so we build steel inside it to produce stronger structures. However, water and oxygen dont agree with steel, so cracks in the concrete eventually damage the interior steel and cause failures. If the cracks self-seal, it would limit the exposure of the steel to the elements.

Adding biological material to building material is an interesting idea and something that probably isnt outside the realm of the common garage or basement lab. Weve seen 3D printing filament made from algae, for example. Fungus might even help make better batteries. Not to mention, weve seen people experimenting with bioprinting. This could be an area where hackers get in on the action early and make real contributions. This might even help you get comfortable with the idea of starships running on mushrooms.

Saudi, UAE football teams denied neutral venues for Qatar clashes Sport without politics? Dream on "IndyWatch Feed Africa"

DUBAI (AFP)

Saudi and UAE football authorities said on Sunday their teams will play Asian Champions League away matches in Qatar despite a travel ban they have imposed on their Gulf neighbour.

The decisions by the Saudi Arabian and United Arab Emirates football federations came after the Asian Football Confederation (AFC) decided overnight in Kuala Lumpur that their teams were required to play in Qatar and also host Qatari teams.

Saudi Arabia, UAE, Bahrain and Egypt in June imposed a total air, land and sea blockade on Qatar after accusing it of backing extremist groups. Qatar has categorically denied the charges.

The four nations had also imposed a travel ban on Qatari citizens and barred their nationals from travelling to Qatar, which will host the 2022 World Cup finals.

The Asian Football Confederation (AFC) ruled all matches would be played on a home-and-away basis as planned, after Saudi Arabia had called for fixtures against Qatari teams to be shifted to a neutral country.

AFC said the decision to maintain the home-and-away format was made after an independent safety and security assessment was completed.

Based on the AFC decision, the Saudi Federation will facilitate the participation of Saudi clubs in the competition, said a statement by the Saudi federation on Sunday.

It however expressed strong reservation at the way the AFC decision was made, saying it was not neutral and had been influenced by head of the competitions committee who is from Qatar.

The UAE Football Federation issued a similar statement in which it said its clubs will play in Qatar but also expressed reservation at the way the AFC decision was adopted.

Both Saudi and UAE federations said they will coordinate with AFC to ensure the safety of their teams when they play in Qatar.

Saudi authorities previously insisted that their clubs would only play against Qatari sides on neutral territory amid reports they may boycott the tournament.

With the AFC ruling that clubs from Qatar, Saudi Arabia and the United Arab Emirates should be played on a home and away basis in 2018 as per the AFC Regulations, Saudi club football teams are due to travel to Qatar for away matches beginning next month.

AFC Secretary General Windsor John told AFP that Saudi Arabia has not lifted the travel ban imposed on its nationals against going to Qatar.

To Safeguard Capitalism, Break Up Amazon, Google, Apple and Facebook "IndyWatch Feed Europe"

These entities are more powerful than any entity, with maybe the exception of China and the U.S.

By Chris OBrien and cross-posted from Venture Beat

If you want to get an idea of how quickly sentiment has shifted against U.S. tech giants, just listen to NYU professor Scott Galloway.

The marketing professor is a self-professed fan of companies like Facebook, Apple, Google, and Amazon. Hes made a bundle owning their stocks, some of them are clients of his, and he even wrote a book last year called The Four: The Hidden DNA of Amazon, Apple, Facebook, and Google.

Over the past two years, Galloways annual talks at the DLD Conference in Munich analyzing their prowess and success have gone viral on YouTube. (See his 2015 and 2016 talks embedded below.) This week, however, Galloway returned to DLD to give a talk called The breakup of big tech that cast the four in a very different light.

This started out as a love affair. I want to be clear, he said. I love these companies. He then shifted gears: After spending the majority of the last two years of my life really trying to understand them and the relationship of the ecosystem, Ive become 100 percent convinced that its time to break these companies up.

Its an audacious claim from anyone, even more startling coming from someone who has been such a close and bullish observer of these tech giants. Yet for Galloway, it is clear that the four companies have simply become too big, and too powerful.

The premise of my book is that Amazon, Apple, Facebook, and Google are our new gods, our new source of love, our consumptive gods, he said. And as a result of their ability to tap into these very basic instincts, theyve aggregated more market cap than the majority of nations GDP I think these entities are more powerful than any entity, with maybe the exception of China and the U.S.

Galloway said he wasnt making his argument based on many of the current emotional outcries against the companies, though these are important to note. And he proceeded to list what he considers to be these giants numerous sins.

There are reasons to be angry at them, he said. They basically power fake news So the notion that our platforms have been weaponized by the intelligence unit of a foreign adversary was initially responded to by Facebook as crazy, that we were crazy for thinking that. Then we found out it was millions of people, and now were finding out it was hundreds of millions of people who were exposed.

He argued that given emerging research on th...

A lion from Jabhat Al Nusra (Al Qaeda in Syria) died today and went to Paradise, I pray that God will accept his soul

No, that is not a quote from a terrorist group member in Syria. It is a statement taken from the Facebook page of Hasan Kattan, the Assistant Director of the latest White Helmet promotional blockbuster, Last Men in Aleppo. Shortly after this Facebook post was exposed, Kattan scrambled to remove this and all other incriminating images from his page or made them private/invisible to public view. The full testimonial attributed to this Al Qaeda militant, written by Kattan in 2014, is even more gushingly poetic:

His beautiful smiles that illuminated his face still existing in my tired memory. He wasnt like any other Mujahid (fighter). He loved fighting and dying under the Islamic flag and he already did. He was, among the others, the most fine and religious , had piety and a sense of humour. A lion from Al Nusra Front died today and went to Paradise . I pray that God will accept his soul.

Below, is the image of this Lion of Nusra Front on Kattans Facebook page. There is also a comment from Fadi Al-Halabi, director of photography for Last Men in Aleppo. Halabis comment reads:

This is Jaloud who died , he went to paradise.

The Politics of Marginalizing the Other "IndyWatch Feed Nthamerica"

Government-sanctioned discrimination has always been a tool to establish the superiority of one group of people over another. Whether its making a minority wear a certain piece of clothing or setting aside designated areas for them to live, eat or ride the bus.

The goal is to constantly remind the oppressed that they are different and worthless. At the same time, it allows the ruling group to rally around an enemy within.

President Lyndon B. Johnson put it this way: If you can convince the lowest white man hes better than the best colored man, he wont notice youre picking his pocket. Hell, give him somebody to look down on, and hell empty his pockets for you.

Nowadays, the concept he describes is known as Making America Great Again. Its a rallying cry for whites who are yearning for the days of their unchallenged supremacy. But it only works if there is a bad guy and since the very first moment of Donald Trumps campaign, its been clear who that is.

Brown Is the New Black

.

The president has been targeting Hispanics as his favorite other. His message that Mexico is not sending their best but rather criminals who are bringing their problems to the US has been relentlessly amplified by Fox News and soaked up by his supporters who need somebody to blame for their own stagnating fortunes.

To this segment of Trumps base, Hispanics are a bunch of criminals and gang members that steal jobs and use government services while hard-working Americans are footing the bill. None of that is supported by the facts but it is a convenient story for those who need an excuse to look down on immigrants.

Not that there hasnt also been subtle and not-so-subtle racism directed at African Americans, but Hispanics are a much better target in particular for state-sponsored discrimination. After all, some of them committed the crime of crossing the border in search for a better life.

And while it is now illegal to tell blacks to sit in designated spots on the bus, having immigrations officers board a bus, ask for proof of citizenship and remove a woman from the vehicle does not violate the law. In this case it was somebodys grandmother and not a dangerous criminal.

That seems to be a pattern for Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE), who are not just going after the worst of the worst. Instead, because there are only so many...

Syrias Kurds say will not join Sochi peace talks Turkeys military offensive in Afrin contradicts the principle of political dialogue Russia and Turkey should not be allowed to impose peace "IndyWatch Feed War"

BEIRUT (AFP)

Authorities in Syrias Kurdish autonomous region said on Sunday they would not attend peace talks in Russias Sochi next week because of Turkeys offensive against the Kurdish enclave of Afrin.

We said before that if the situation remained the same in Afrin we could not attend Sochi, regional official Fawza al-Yussef said.

Rebel backer Turkey is one of the sponsors of the talks in the Black Sea resort on Monday and Tuesday, along with Damascus allies Russia and Iran.

Turkeys military offensive in Afrin contradicts the principle of political dialogue, Yussef said.

Turkey launched operation Olive Branch on January 20 against the Syrian Kurdish Peoples Protection Units (YPG) militia in Afrin, supporting Syrian opposition fighters with ground troops and air strikes.

Ankara says the YPG is a terrorist offshoot of the outlawed Kurdistan Workers Party (PKK), which is proscribed as a terror group by Ankara and its Western allies.

The Sochi talks come after multiple failed rounds of UN-brokered talks to end Syrias seven-year war.

On Saturday, Syrias main opposition group, the Syrian Negotiation Commission, also said it would not attend the negotiations.

More than 340,000 people have been killed and millions displaced since Syrias war began in 2011.

The conflict began with the brutal repression of anti-government protests, but has since evolved into a complex war including jihadists and foreign powers.

Arrr: Top Tips to Spot The Differences Between Pirate and Legal Sites "IndyWatch Feed Tech"

Theres a persistent theory that people exist who are using pirate sites but dont realize that theyre unauthorized and/or illegal. While that seems likely, its hard to believe the volumes are particularly significant.

Nevertheless, numerous campaigns have attempted to enlighten consumers as to what is and isnt legal and this week the Federation Against Copyright Theft raised the issue once again.

Tagging onto UK anti-fraud awareness campaign Take Five, the anti-piracy outfit asked people to take five minutes to consider the legality of the site or service theyre currently consuming.

FACTs advice above is basically sound. They ask people to do their research on the sites FindAnyFilm and GetItRight, both of which should give consumers an idea of where content can be obtained legally. Trouble is, neither resource is comprehensive, so five minutes of research could turn into ten or fifteen, by which time people could get bored of trying to do the right thing.

So, with this in mind, here are a few light-hearted tips to help people spot whether the site theyre using is authorized by the movie industry or a product of a swashbuckling mind.

Does the site want your name, address and life history?

If the site youre accessing looks really polished, has a positive Wikipedia page, but wont give you anything more than a trailer without handing over your full identity and credit card details, this is probably a legal platform.

Since they have to license movies from Hollywood and other filmmakers, sites like these cost a lot of money to run. As a result, they want your money to pay the bills and they like to make sure you can pay up front.

When you think about it, it makes perfect sense. No money, no access capiche?

Does the site look polished but doesnt ask for a dime?

If the site youre looking at seems like the one mentioned above but doesnt seem to care who you are, this is starting to look...

Death Notice: Moore's Law. 19 April 1965 2 January 2018 "IndyWatch Feed Tech"

Submitted via IRC for AndyTheAbsurd

Hammered by the finance of physics and the weaponisation of optimisation, Moore's Law has hit the wall, bounced off - and reversed direction. We're driving backwards now: all things IT will become slower, harder and more expensive.

That doesn't mean there won't some rare wins - GPUs and other dedicated hardware have a bit more life left in them. But for the mainstay of IT, general purpose computing, last month may be as good as it ever gets.

Going forward, the game changes from "cheaper and faster" to "sleeker and wiser". Software optimisations - despite their Spectre-like risks - will take the lead over the next decades, as Moore's Law fades into a dimly remembered age when the cornucopia of process engineering gave us everything we ever wanted.

From here on in, we're going to have to work for it.

It's well past the time that we move from improving performance by increasing clock speeds and transistor counts; it's been time to move on to increasing performance wherever possible by writing better parallel processing code.

Report: Heres What The Classified FISA Memo Could Show The American Public "IndyWatch Feed World"

20180124_fbi

When the House Permanent Select Committee on Intelligence votes to release the classified Russia memo, according to one journalist, it will be because the committee found such disconcerting practices by intelligence officials that the public has a right to know.

Mollie Ziegler Hemingway a senior editor at The Federalist and Fox News contributor who spoke with The Daily Caller New Foundation discussed how the media narrative is collapsing with new facts showing the misbehavior of certain FBI officials. Besides not showing any collusion, we can now look back to see inappropriate briefings by intelligence officials and the Congress using this discredited information.

Hemingway calls the use of the dossier to obtain surveillance on Trump administration officials a scandal of epic proportions. In addition, America is also learning of the post-election whisper campaign to delegitimize President Donald Trump.

As for the state of American journalism, Hemingway discussed the publics reasonable impression of a herd who seemed to think former President Barack Obama could do no wrong, and they were protectively fawning. Trump, on the other hand, seems unable to do anything right, with reflexive hostility always aimed in his direction. Public trust in journalism is eroding with this obvious bias on display, Hemingway said.

Groups like Fusion GPS are coming into newsrooms with packaged campaigns to help journalists tell a story that does their work for them. It is tempting to use such packages in an environment of budget-cutting and downsizing, Hemingway said.

To Hemingway, Trump is a surprisingly conservative politician. As for the reluctance of other Republicans to support him, she believes they should figure out that people want leaders to courageously stand up to social justice warriors and media bullies.

If Democrats were willing to shut down the government over illegal aliens, Hemingway thinks that Republicans should at least consider the federal funds going to Planned Parenthood, especially after the videos that came out a couple years ago demonstrating a reprehensible fetal body part harvesting trade.

The idea that these children wouldnt be valuable enough in our society to live, but they are valuable in death, chopped up, is horrific to contemplate, Hemingway said. Explaining that ther...

FBI Caught In Another BIG Lie, 1996b "IndyWatch Feed Economics"

- Virtual Shield VPN - the easiest way to create a home VPN. Go to: https://www.virtualshield.com/billstill Good evening, Im still reporting on: FBI Caught In Another BIG Lie, 1996b Synopsis: Oh Oh! Its always the cover-up that gets them. Heres a great example of how evil-doers get so distracted that they get sloppy, and get caught. Yesterdays big story was that the FBI lost 5 months of emails between FBI agents Peter Strzok and Lisa Page. A brazen dog-ate-the-homework weak beyond weak excuse but it worked for the IRS so when your back is to the wall, why not? So ZeroHedge printed this little gem of a letter late this afternoon which was written by Michael E. Horowitz, the Dept. of Justice Inspector General to Sen. Ron Johnson, Chairman of the Committee on Homeland Security, and Sen. Charles Grassley, Chairman of the Committee on the Judiciary. Horowitz responded to their question: When and how did OIG become aware of the text messages between Peter Strzok and Lisa Page? Here is his astounding answer written on Dec. 13, 2017 just 5 weeks ago: In gathering evidence for the OIGs ongoing 2016 election review, we requested, consistent with standard practice, that the FBI produce text messages from the FBI-issued phones of certain FBI employees involved in the Clinton email investigation based on search terms we provided. STUDY: Over 30% of All FDA-Approved Drugs Have Grave and Deadly Side Effects "IndyWatch Feed World"

Warning FDA Approved

A study from The Journal of the American Medical Association has exposed safety issues occurring in over 30% of FDA-approved drugs between 2001 and 2010.

Close to one-third of drugs approved by the FDA are found to have safety problems, according to a research report from The Journal of the American Medical Association.

JAMAs report stated that these safety issues, known as postmarket safety events, are common after FDA approval, highlighting the importance of continuous monitoring of the safety of novel therapeutics throughout their life cycle.

Every single day in the United States, 1,000 people are treated in emergency departments for a single FDA-approved drugopioids. Opioid drug overdoses now kill more people annually than the number of Americans who died in the Vietnam war.

However, its not only opioids. Acetaminophen overdose is actually the leading cause for calls to Poison Control Centers across the USmore than 100,000 instances per yearand, each year, is responsible for: More than 56,000 emergency room visits. 2,600 hospitalizations. An estimated 458 deaths due to acute liver failure.

According to some estimates, Antidepressants, which are handed out like candy with the FDAs blessing, cause over 40,000 deaths per year.

The death toll from the three aforementioned medications tops 100,000 annually, yet still there are countless others.

The study sought to identify the frequency of postmarket safety events of FDA-approved drugs. It revealed that 222 novel therapeutics were approved by the FDA between 2001 and 2010. Out of those 222 FDA-approved products, there were 123 safety issues later found in 71, or 32 percent, of the approved drugs. Actions taken for the 71 drugs included withdrawal of the substance, new safety announcements highlighting discovered risks, and issuing black box warnings.

These safety problems were more frequent among biologics, therapeutics indicated for the treatment of psychiatric disease, those receiving accelerated approval, and those with nearregulatory deadline approval, according to the report.

Products that completed speedy reviews were not necess...

Iran-linked APT OilRig target IIS Web Servers with new RGDoor Backdoor "IndyWatch Feed Tech"

The Iran-linked cyber-espionage group tracked as OilRig started using a backdoor subbed RGDoor to target Internet Information Services (IIS) Web servers.

The Iran-linked cyber-espionage group tracked as OilRig started using a backdoor subbed RGDoor to target Internet Information Services (IIS) Web servers.

The OilRig hacker group is an Iran-linked APT that has been around since at least 2015, when targeted mainly organizations in the financial and government sectors, in the United States and Middle Eastern countries.

The hackers used the RGDoor backdoor to target Middle Eastern government organizations and financial and educational institutions.

According to the researchers, RGDoor is a secondary backdoor that allows the hackers to regain access to a compromised Web server when primary TwoFace webshell is discovered and removed.

OilRig hackers are using the TwoFace webshell since at least June 2016, the backdoor

Unlike TwoFace, the actors did not develop RGDoor in C# to be interacted with at specific URLs hosted by the targeted IIS web server. Instead, the developer created RGDoor using C++, which results in a compiled dynamic link library (DLL). states the analysis from PaloAlto Networks.

The DLL has an exported function named RegisterModule, which is important as it led us to believe that this DLL was used as a custom native-code HTTP module that the threat actor would load into IIS.

The attackers exploited the IIS 7 functionality that allows developers to create modules in C++ to extend IIS capabilities, in this way they could carry out custom actions on requests

The native-code modules can be installed either in the IIS Manager GUI or via the command-line using the appcmd application, Palo Alto has explains.

Have you ever wondered why Trumps new FBI Director, Christopher Wray, hasnt fired a single person. The top echelon of FBI management is obviously riddled with corruption. Is Wray actually doing something good and the firings will come, or has he joined the coup and is now working against the president? Well guess what? Wray was Chris Christies lawyer when Christies cell phone turned up missing during the Bridgegate scandal. Guess where it was later discovered to be? In the law firms safe. Judge Nap laid it out on Fox & Friends this morning. [insert] So why did Trump hire Way? Now, this is just a theory from here on is pure speculation - because Chris Christie asked him to do so. Remember, Christie was named as the first head of Trumps transition team on May 9, 2016 6 months before the election. Christie was on the short list for Vice President along with Newt Gingrich and Mike Pence. Trump hired Way to make Christie happy. Now, Trump is sort of boxed in. Should he fire his second FBI Director? The Dems would have a television field day. But if Wray is now protecting this coup group within the FBI, either Trump or Sessions has to fire him. MOSCOW (Reuters) Hundreds of supporters of Russian opposition leader Alexei Navalny began a nationwide day of protest against the authorities on Sunday, calling on voters to boycott what they said was a rigged presidential election on March 18.

Beneath bright blue skies, hundreds of young people gathered in the main square of the port of Vladivostok in the Russian Far East. Speakers called the election, which polls show incumbent Vladimir Putin should easily win, a farce.

I will go to the elections when theres a choice, read one placard in Vladivostok, a reference to the fact that Navalny has been barred from running over what he says is a trumped up suspended prison sentence. Putin is gobbling up Russias future, read another.

Other protests took place in Novosibirsk, Kurgan, Omsk, Magadan, Kemerovo and Yakutsk. Navalnys supporters said they expected thousands of people to take part in similar demonstrations in 118 towns and cities.

Your own life is at stake, Navalny, who organized the boycott protests, said in a pre-protest video.

How many more years to do you want to live with these thieves, bigots and creeps?

Opposition activists take part in a rally calling for a boycott of the March 18 presidential election in Moscow on January 28.

In Moscow, where a protest is expected later on Sunday, police forced their way into Navalnys office and started questioning and searching people, citing reports of a bomb, an online feed run by Navalnys supporters showed.

Police shut down a TV studio at the office which had been broadcasting online news bulletins, but another studio in a different location continued to operate.

Police detained six of Navalnys supporters at the Moscow studio and around 16 protesters in other parts of Russia, OVD-Info, an independent monitoring group, said.

More Amazing Technology "IndyWatch Feed Pacific"

Amazon has opened it's first 'staff free' shop in Seattle.   There are no check outs.  You simply walk in, put what you want into your bag and walk out without speaking to a person or scanning a bar code.

This is a peep into the future of shopping and it should make the sphincters of Matt McCarten and his ilk quiver because there's nobody in the joint who needs a union.  Not only that but there's no such thing as a 'minimum wage.'

Customers download an app onto their phones, which they then scan at turnstiles upon entering the store. As they shop, hundreds of cameras watch them from above, monitoring what they pick up, put down, and put in their bags. As soon as someone picks up an item from the shelf it is added to their virtual cart. If they put it back again, it is immediately removed.
When customers are done shopping, they simply leave the store with their items. Their Amazon account is charged, a receipt is sent immediately to their phone, and theyre on their way.

Apparently there might be one person in the place to look after refilling shelves which have eluded the robots.

BEIRUT (Reuters) Heavy fighting resumed in Syrias eastern Ghouta on Sunday after a short period of relative calm following reports that a ceasefire had been agreed there late on Friday, a war monitor and pro-government media sources said.

The Syrian Observatory for Human Rights, a Britain-based war monitor, said there was intense fighting accompanied by large blasts, heavy shelling and air raids after an attack by jihadist rebels. It said the Syrian army of President Bashar al-Assad had fired dozens of rockets and shells into eastern Ghouta since the ceasefire was reported to have begun.

A military media unit run by Assads ally Hezbollah said the Syrian army had repulsed an attack by jihadist rebels in eastern Ghouta, detonating an insurgent car bomb. It had then responded to the assault with shelling and air strikes, it said.

A resident of Damascus said bombardment could be heard coming from eastern Ghouta on Sunday morning and smoke was visible.

Late on Friday, a rebel official said that Assads ally Russia had promised the opposition delegation at peace talks in Vienna that it would put pressure on Damascus to enforce a truce in eastern Ghouta.

The ceasefire was never publicly confirmed by the Syrian government.

International concern has been rising over the fate of 400,000 people living in besieged, rebel-held eastern Ghouta as acute food and medicine shortages have contributed to what the United Nations has called the worst malnutrition of the war.

Turkey supports anything that harms the Kurds "IndyWatch Feed War"

As Turkeys offensive against Kurds in the Afrin region continues, DW spoke with Rami Abdel Rahman, who runs the Syrian Observatory for Human Rights. He sees a multifaceted conflict filled with murky alliances.

Turkey has named the offensive Operation Olive Branch (picture-alliance/abaca/B. Milli)

DW: Turkeys military offensive against the Kurdish Peoples Protection Units (YPG) in Syria has been going on for about a week. What are the developments?

Rami Abdel Rahman: The Turkish military is attacking along 10 corridors north and west of Afrin. Turkey and the Free Syrian Army (FSA), which supports it, are making slow progress because of fierce Kurdish resistance. Over the course of six days, they only conquered two villages and parts of five others. That is not much considering the number and intensity of Turkish airstrikes and Turkeys statements at the onset of the campaign. In reality, Turkish troops have barely advanced into the Kurdish-controlled enclave of Afrin in northern Syria. In contrast to reports from both warring parties, our sources have confirmed a total of 133 fatalities so far: 47 Kurdish fighters, 51 FSA militants, four Turkish soldiers, 31 civilians killed by Turkish fire and two by Kurdish forces.

The Kurds have declared that they are pulling fighters from the Syrian cities of Raqqa and Deir el-Zour to reinforce their troops. But how is this possible considering that Afrin is a Kurdish enclave thats separated from other Kurdish-controlled areas?

The only route available leads through territory controlled by the Syrian regime, via two towns north of Aleppo, to be exact. There have been reports claiming Damascus is allowing Kurds to pass its road barricades, provided they are unarmed and traveling as civilians. But my contacts in the area have not noticed an increase in men traveling through the region.

We Knows Not What He Does "IndyWatch Feed Politics.us"

It's already clear to me from watching Jonathan Turley defend the president against obstruction of justice charges that the criminal defense for Donald Trump is going to rely on the fact that a person who doesn't know right from wrong doesn't necessarily have criminal intent if they do wrong. Turley, for example, blandly explained that the way that Trump acted towards Mueller isn't much different from how he acts against any number of officials who he fires or threatens to fire. He's always pissed off. He wants to fire John Kelly and Don McGahn and Jeff Sessions, but he doesn't. He's always doing improper things that violate norms, so it's not necessarily true that his intent is to intimidate career FBI officers into not testifying against him when he names them publicly and sends his goons after them.

If there is an impeachment trial, I expect that Turley will defend the president. He'll be a lot more effective than Dershowitz would be, I think.

Mueller Needs More Than Obstruction "IndyWatch Feed Politics.us"

Ryan Goodman of the New York Times lays things out in such a way that its easy to see the outlines of a fairly slam-dunk case of obstruction of justice in the Russia probe. In addition to that already verified false statements made by Michael Flynn and George Papadapoulos, for which they have both been indicted, he identifies false statements that were made to Congress or on government forms by Jeff Sessions, Jared Kushner, Donald Trump Jr., and K.T. McFarland. This is in addition to a long list of false statements that were made to the public, including by the president, insisting that there had been absolutely no contact between members of the campaign and Russians. For Goodman, these public lies are so intertwined with their overall defense that its impossible to believe that they were honest in private when speaking to federal investigators.

The original conspiracy to hide Russian contacts has unraveled. We now know that Flynn, Papadapolos, and Sam Clovis are cooperating with the Mueller investigation, while there is reason to believe that Rick Gates may soon join them. Many others have given testimony, either to the grand jury or to the special counsels investigators. Some, like Hope Hicks and the presidents White House lawyer Don McGahn are still in Trumps employ, but others like Reince Priebus, Sean Spicer, and Steve Bannon (who is scheduled to testify soon) are not. Only the most guilty have any interest in lying to the Feds, so its safe to say that Mueller has decimated the original unity of Trump Team and is no getting to the bottom of how these lies were coordinated. And maybe thats why it appears that hell spend his time talking to the president by focusing on issues related to obstruction rather than the underlying crime.

Trump may have signaled yesterday that hes knows hes in trouble on obstruction. Hes been denying he colluded with the Russians but on Wednesday he added a denial that hes obstructed the investigation, too.

President Trump defended his attacks on investigations into Russian interference in the 2016 election, denying that it amounts to obstruction and saying he was merely fight[ing] back.

Theres been no collusion whatsoever, Trump told reporters in an impromptu press conference on Wednesday. Theres no obstruction whatsoever. And Im looking forward to it.

Trump also mocked critics who have accused him of obstructing the Russia probe by attacking the investigations and referring to them as a witch hunt.

Brownback to Protect the Religiously Oppressed "IndyWatch Feed Politics.us"

Its telling that Sam Brownback needed the tie-breaking vote of the vice-president in order to be confirmed to his new position as ambassador for international religious freedom. The Kansas governor couldnt muster a single Democratic vote despite serving in Congress for sixteen years, including more than fourteen in the U.S. Senate. His difficulties were noticed back home:

In Topeka, some lawmakers reacted with surprise that Brownbacks cloture vote had become a nail-biter.

He had been there with that group for years and you would have thought he would have had more of a broad base unless its turned over that much in six or eight years, state Sen. John Skubal, R-Overland Park, said.

The Republican legislature in Kansas felt compelled to rescind Brownbacks notorious tax cuts last year after they failed to create the money he promised and left a smoking crater of a budget for the lawmakers to navigate. Thats probably why Brownback cites his anti-abortion policies as his greatest legacy from two terms in office. He also, famously, did away with anti-discrimination protections for LGBT state employees, so hes compiled a record on looking out for oppressed minorities. Its not a good record, but its a record.

Brownback will oversee the countrys advocacy for religious minorities in areas of religious conflict and oppression around the globe. The position, which is based in Washington, D.C., was established in 1998.

Since Chris Christie has already left office, Brownback is the most unpopular governor in the country. When he hands over the reins later today to Lt. Gov. Jeff Colyer, a lot of Kansans, including Republicans, will be celebrating.

That doesnt bode well for Brownbacks prospects as an ambassador for our country or for the worlds religiously oppressed people. So it goes.

How Trump Lowers All Republican Standards "IndyWatch Feed Politics.us"

Much like Sarah Palin, Trumps worst crime will end up being getting the GOP to adjust its standards to make it possible to defend him. There are two examples of this in the news today. One comes from Tony Perkins, the notorious president of the evangelical Family Research Council:

Perkins knows about Stormy Daniels, the porn actress who claimed, in a 2011 interview, that in 2006 she had sex with Trump four months after his wife, Melania, gave birth to their son, Barron. He knows of the reports that Daniels (real name: Stephanie Clifford) was paid off to keep the affair quiet in the waning weeks of the 2016 election. He knows about the cursing, the lewdness and the litany of questionable behavior over the past year of Trumps life or the 70 that came before it.

We kind of gave himAll right, you get a mulligan. You get a do-over here, Perkins told me in an interview for the latest episode of POLITICOs Off Message podcast.

I think were all familiar with evangelical forgiveness of egregious sins, but this is always accompanied by some at least seemingly genuine admission of guilt and repentance. Trump simply denies hes done anything wrong. Perkins explained the new standard by saying that evangelical Christians are tired of being kicked around by Barack Obama and his leftists. And I think they are finally glad that theres somebody on the playground that is willing to punch the bully. He added that Christianity is not all about being a welcome mat which people can just stomp their feet on.

I wont dispute that many evangelicals can do with less sanctimony, but abandoning all their moral standards is an overcorrection. And Im really talking here only about the evangelicals who are so politicized that theyre really synonymous with Republicans. They no longer care about adultery or even the most basic family values, like not cheating on your wife while shes nursing. They clearly dont care about business ethics, basic competency, civility, honesty, or even the possibility that the president is compromised by a foreign power. And its because hes on the right team and punching the right people.

The other example in the news today is...

Schumer Needs to Up His Game "IndyWatch Feed Politics.us"

Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer is reportedly rescinding his offer to give President Donald Trump big money for his stupid border wall. The problem is, the cat is already out of the bag. Having once shown a willingness to fork over billions for a senseless boondoggle that is supposed to be paid for by the Mexican government, everyone knows that Schumer will cave on this issue in the future. Taking back his offer makes him look ridiculous.

Overall, I understand why Schumer decided to take the CHIP money and reopen the government for three weeks, but hes been off his game during this whole shutdown business. In Middle East terms, money for the stupid border wall should have been the Jerusalem of these negotiations, best left for last after everything else was adequately negotiated. In the meantime, every request for money should have been met with mocking derision and a suggestion that Trump telephone Mexico City if he wanted an appropriation.

In the end, I suppose wasting tens of billions of dollars on an ineffective and senseless racist symbol that can be seen from space could be worth it. If this country can now be counted among the real shitholes on this planet, then maybe we could sully ourselves with such a deal without anyone forming a lower opinion of us. The price would have to right, though, wouldnt it?

It couldnt be just to release some hostages that the Republicans (most of them, anyway) dont really want to keep.

Now if Schumer started out saying that the Consumer Financial Protection Agency needs to be funded or theres no wall, that might almost be something slightly above shameful capitulation. As things actually are, the Democrats are playing this scared. They have a big political lead and they dont want to blow it in the fourth quarter.

And, I get that. They absolutely cannot pull an Atlanta Falcons on these midterm elections, and their leadership is responsible for not letting that happen. That doesnt mean theyve played their cards right here though, because its not the tactical retreat that is the problem. Its the overall strategy that concerns me. It might be intimidating when a major political party holds childrens health hostage since it shows they have absolutely no limits and no moral compass whatsoever, but that kind of aggression must be met in kind. Instead of asking for more, Schumer was loading offers on Trumps plate only to have them pocketed and rebuffed.

He needs to do better.
